Come, follow me // #14 - On mission with the rejected King (Mark 6:1-13)

Jesus left there and went to his hometown accompanied, by his

disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began

to teach in the synagogue and many, who heard him were amazed.

Where did this man get these things?

They asked? What's this wisdom that has been

given to him, that he even does Miracles, isn't this, the

carpenter, isn't this Mary's son?

And the brother of James Joseph, Judas and Simon on his sister's

here with us and they took offense at him.

Jesus said to them only in his hometown among his relatives.

And in his own house is a prophet without honor.

He could not do any Miracles there.

Except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them, and

he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Then Jesus went around teaching from Village to Village, calling

the 12 to him. He sent them out two, by two,

and gave them authority over evil spirits.

These were his instructions, take nothing for the journey

except a staff, no bread, no bag no money in their belts wear

sandals, but not even an extra tunic whenever you enter a

house. Stay there until you leave that

town. And if any place will not

welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet

when you leave as a testimony against them.

They went out and preached. The people should repent.

They drove out many demons and anointed many sick.

People with oil and healed them. Right.

I'm going to start by showing just how up-to-date and modern I

am. And how cool I am by mentioning

Zoila got my timer up by mentioning a TV show that ended

four years ago. So, does anybody here remember

the factor? Yeah, I'm calling down with the

kids. Yeah, you remember the right X

Factor unless you're for. Yeah, I remember the X Factor

all very very well. Truth is I never like The X

Factor. I never enjoyed the X Factor but

I I pretended to like the X Factor for one main reason and

that stir. And I first met Jamey.

She really wanted to go and see the X Factor live, and I really

wanted to hide a me. So I pretended to enjoy X

Factor. I would watch The X Factor with

her. I bought tickets to go and see X

Factor live all in the hope that I could spend more time with

Jamie and persuade worked. So maybe there's a lesson there.

Yeah, I saw Alexandra Burke sing.

Your life. That's not why I'm mentioning it

though. I'm mentioning it because you

remember on that show when it got near the final and the

people are in the final, they'd go back to their hometowns and

the scenes would be just Mayhem. There will be people lining the

streets, over waving and screaming drum, but those scenes

to they still do that in whatever TV shows, cool and hip

and young. Now to this tall like this tall

do Britain's Got Talent. Is that still a thing?

Yes. Do they take the people back to

their Hometown when that happens?

Hey, they did it in The X Factor and when they got there, the

streets will be lined with people waving flags and cheering

and screaming and shouting. You can understand that somebody

from your little town is getting International Fame and the done.

Something you think is impressive.

So they'd line the streets, like it was a royal visit, like it

was cheering and waving, and the performer would get out of the

limo with Louis Walsh or someone irrelevant and they go to their

old job and they check her. I always enjoyed working Working

here, they lie and then they go to their old school.

They were always a model pupil you have course they were and

everyone's still be cheering and maybe it would just be amazing,

a celebrity returning home, it will be incredible and that when

we read verse 1 of this chapter, that's what women to expect as

well. When we read verse 1, we are

meant to expect the same kind of celebrity Mayhem when Jesus

returns home. See, in the chapter, Jesus has

just raised a little girl back from the dead.

That is a big deal. Now, not everyone knew about

that. So, maybe that's not as big a

celebrity thing as we might think it is.

But before that he'd healed, like a local madman, a guy who

terrorizes, local community and healed him from a demon

possession at a ruin that area. You for years before that, he

had had crowds and crowds of people following him wherever he

traveled throughout Capernaum and girl at Galilee.

And that area, he is a celebrity at this time.

There's no other word for it. And so, as he returns back to

Nazareth in verse 1, back to this tiny little town.

Where people think they're probably a maximum of 500 people

living. There, we expect celebrity

Mayhem just like the X Factor, whatever performers, arriving

home. When we read verse one, that's

what we expect scenes crowds Fame, amazement.

And the first half of verse 2, well, it looks like we're going

to get that, doesn't it read it? When the Sabbath came.

He began to teach in the synagogue and many who heard him

were amazed. Here is Jesus teaches which is

what Jesus does all the way through.

Mark, he teaches us what he came to do, as he teaches that people

in his hometown are amazed. That's a good reaction, right?

If people came to Avenue and said, I really Amazed by how

Avenue was would be really happy with that, right?

And it's a really good reaction, especially when you look at

these verses a really similar to stuff that happens in chapter 1,

verse 21, and 22 in chapter one, it says, when they went to

Capernaum aim, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach

the same thing. And what happens in Capernaum,

the people were amazed It's the same thing happening again, and

Capernaum is what Jesus has had. Probably his most famous

celebrity so far, and people have come to trust him about

their faith in him. And so as we read verse 1 and 2,

having read got to this point, we're meant to think.

Oh, it's happening again. Here we go.

More people seeing who Jesus is more of his Fame spreading were

meant to be thinking about Capernaum, and the amazement

there, that turns to Faith and the whole town, bringing the

sick. And there is People to Jesus to

be healed. Instead were brought back down

to earth with a bit of a bump, aren't we?

Our expectations are up here. I think Mark deliberately right

to get us excited about what is going to happen next.

And then he brings a straight down because the amazement of

the crowd here isn't a good thing like in Capernaum.

And instead the first thing we see from these verses is that

familiarity with Jesus isn't faith in Jesus.

Being familiar with Jesus is not the same as having faith in

Jesus. You see this?

This amazement it's not the same.

Instead, they're amazed the someone could be as arrogant and

as bold as Jesus is being. Listen to what they read, what

they say. Where did this man?

Get these things. They ask.

What is wisdom that's been given to him.

What these remarkable Miracles he's performing, isn't this, the

carpenter, isn't this Mary son? And brother of James, Joseph,

Judas and Simon. I sister's here with us and they

took offense at him. did they listen to Jesus and they say, Do

You Think You Are? Who do you think you are coming

here saying this stuff about God, you're a nobody.

You're just a local Carpenter. I know you.

You fix my bookshelf. You're not this Fancy Pants.

Teacher. Who do you think you are?

We know all about guy they and they know his brothers.

And you know what his brothers are nobody's too.

And if you read in chapter 3, back in March, even his

brothers, Think Jesus is out of his mind as he teaches all this

stuff, his family. Don't think Jesus is all that

and neither do the people of Nazareth.

In fact, it's that because the Nazareth think that Jesus is

acting like he's better than them when they all think he's

worse than them. When they say, isn't this Mary's

son? That is an absolute slam.

They're not just referencing Jesus, family in Jesus day,

people are always related to their dad.

They should be saying isn't this Joseph's son?

Instead clearly gossip Around Jesus birth.

There's not reported in Mark's gospel but they would have known

in Nazareth. Clearly, that gossip is reported

and known and effectively by saying isn't this Mary's son?

They calling him an illegitimate child.

They calling Jesus. Something horrible.

Who do you think you we know where you come from?

Jesus, who do you think you are telling us this stuff?

And in Mark's gospel, this really is out of the blue.

We're not expecting this in Mark's Gospel, wherever Jesus

has gone so far in Mark, the crowds have loved him and flock

to him and praised him and come to trust him.

People have listened to him, they followed him that been

healed by him, that wanted more of Jesus with the exception of

some of the religious bigwigs. Everyone's loved Jesus so far.

But here, where Jesus is best known, where Jesus grew up?

They take offense at him and they refused to listen to him.

They refused to believe in him and they refuse to trust him.

Which leads to a big rig verse 4.

Jesus said to them, a prophet is not without honor, except in his

own town, among his relatives, and in his own home, and he

couldn't do any Miracles there. Except lay his hands on a few

people who were ill and healed them.

Now, that's a weird sentence to read.

He could not do any Miracles when clearly it says he then did

some Miracles, but by healing people, that's not not a

miracle. Clearly Jesus could do some

Miracles because he heals some people.

But it seems that in the face of the people of Nazareth unbelief,

their refusal to believe, Jesus doesn't, and won't do any

miracles. They refuse to believe so he

refuses to perform. From a last week that happened,

whether people who bother looking at that girl, she's

already dead. Well, they don't get to see

Jesus. Perform the miracle of raising

the curl up and healing her They miss out and that's what happens

here. It seems.

But there was more striking, his verse six, he was amazed at

their lack of faith. See, they were amazed at Jesus

earlier in verse 2, but now he's amazed at And what amazes him is

their refusal to believe in him. There are only two places in all

four of the gospels, where we read about Jesus being amazed

that. We're going to tell you where

the other one is rather than give them to think about it.

One is in Luke 7, where Jesus is amazed at a centurions faith if

you want to amaze Jesus, though, one of the ways to do that is to

refuse to believe in him. If you really want to amaze,

Jesus refused to believe in him. That's what amazes Jesus hear.

The people of Nazareth, refusal to believe in him.

So, what are we to make of this? I think this section in

particular is is a particular warning to those of us who are

very familiar with Jesus who have grown up around Jesus,

maybe who've lived around Jesus for decades, who've heard about

him for years and years, it reminds us of something.

We saw earlier in Mark's gospel to that it's possible to be

around Jesus to be familiar with Jesus.

And not really be with Jesus and to not have faith in Jesus.

It is possible to read your Bible every single day.

More than once to attend every single church meeting every

youth group. Every see you meeting to know,

massive Theology and all of church history to know

incredible truths about Jesus. And to not really be a disciple

of Jesus. And to refuse to believe who he

is. And to do what he says.

He's what the people of Nazareth do here, they weave these

assess. Jesus was teaching them.

And we know that the flow in Mark is that Jesus is Calling

and teaching people to repent and believe because the kingdom

of God is near Repent. He thaws them and they said,

man. Not doing that.

And the disciple, a follower of Jesus, as someone who does what

Jesus says. And that starts with repenting

of your sins and putting faith in him alone.

So before we move on, I need to ask.

Are you a disciple of this Jesus?

Is that something you can say about yourself?

It doesn't matter how long you've been around Jesus.

What prayer you might have prayed, whether you serve in a

team, you've been baptized or whatever.

Else, are you really a disciple of Jesus?

How is that demonstrated by your repentance and how you live for

him? Is there a risk of familiarity

with Jesus? Actually, breeding contempt for

Jesus and leading to a refusal to believe and trust and obey

his call on our life on his call to repent and to obey him know,

Matt and trust him for everything.

That's what a disciple is. Someone who listens to Jesus and

obeys Jesus. Is there anyone here?

Who risks amazing Jesus for all the wrong reasons?

If so, I want to encourage you that there is encouragement In

this passage for you to come and do that for the first time

properly today. You see the sad truth is we

don't hear about Nazareth again. We don't know what happens to

any of these people except for one of them in our translation

is name is Judah. One of Jesus's brothers, but

elsewhere in the Bible is known as Jude, and this Jude ended up

writing one of the books of the Bible.

See you may have refused to believe in Jesus at this point,

but he did believe eventually, there is always hope and

opportunity to trust in Jesus. This wasn't the end of due to

chance to put his trust in Jesus.

And this is not the end of your chance.

Either, if you're here this morning, if you know, that

you've been refusing to believe in Jesus while today is your

chance to change that before, it's too late.

Yes, it might not be easy, might be embarrassing, might be

straightforward, might not be straightforward, but we've got a

church full of people here who would happily get alongside you

and help you to do what you need to do to change, what you need

to change, and keep going, how you need to keep going.

It won't be easy, but it's 100% worth it.

It's probably also worth be clear before we move on that.

This is really, really clear refusal to believe.

Is not the same as doubt. Lack of faith.

This that this refusal to have faith is not the same as

doubting. We're going to see over the next

few weeks that doubting in Jesus isn't the same as refusing to

believe that Jesus loves to meet us, in our doubts, and our

worries, and our fears, and to reassure us through them.

You see doubt and unbelief of very different from each other.

They're very different from each other.

Doubt struggles to believe finds it hard to believe, and trust

unbelief refuses to believe, will not believe doubt struggles

to believe, unbelief, refuses to believe, and they're very, very

different things because only things that are alive struggle

Only things that have life, struggle dead things, don't

struggle. So, if you are struggling with

doubts, or questions or fears or worries today, I want to

encourage you. That is good.

That is a sign of Life. Please don't believe the lie

that they are the same as unbelief.

They're not. And Jesus loves to take our

doubts and build us through them.

As he shows us again, and again, how he calms all our doubts and

our fears. And if, you know the spending

time doubting today, that's okay?

Let them doubt, dude, himself. The guy who Jesus is brother in

his letter. Verse 22 tells us be merciful to

those who doubt It's okay to doubt.

Our job as brothers, and sisters of doubters, is to love them,

and encourage them, and show them that doubts are okay.

And to bring them to Jesus, be gentle and patient.

And kind on those who doubt Because that's what Jesus is.

Doubt is not unbelief. Doubt is a sign of life.

And so we've seen that familiarity with Jesus isn't the

same as faith in Jesus. But in the next few verses, we

see the kind of flip side of that coin and we see secondly

that discipleship feeds people making discipleship leads to

disciple-making. So after this rejection at

Nazareth, Jesus doesn't just give up.

Which is what I do instead Jesus knows that the gospel is going

to bear fruit all over the place, even if in some places

it's rejected. We read verse 6 and Jesus went

around teaching from Village to Village.

He carried on doing what he came to do, to teach teach people

about the kingdom of God, and to call them to repent.

And then he gathers his twelve closest disciple, who him, and

he, then sends them out on the same mission that he's been

doing so far. Verse, seven calling the 12 to

him. He began to send them out, two

by two, and gave them authority over impure spirits.

So he sent them out to do, what? Well, there's something about

being able to drive out impure spirits.

But it seems that that's only mentioned to show that Jesus is

the one who has the authority over those impure spirits.

And he gives that to his disciples when he sends them

out. Their primary task, though is to

carry on Jesus's mission teaching.

Their primary task is to carry on.

Jesus is me also. Jesus carry on Jesus's mission

for him. True Disciples of Jesus carry on

Jesus's mission for him, and they do it with his authority.

And so these 12 go out and they preached that people should

repent. That's what he seems that

they've do me. Read it in verse 12 and they

summarize what's happening. And this message of repentance

is also accompanied with Miracles and healing and driving

out demons. And the truth is our mission as

Disciples of Jesus is the same Mission today.

I was not exactly the same. I'm not saying go to the areas

around Nazareth and start reaching out there and shaking

dust off your feet and all those things.

But if you're a Christian here today, our mission is also to be

disciple making disciples. To tell other people about

Jesus, and to call them to repentance and Faith to turn

away from rejecting God, and to obey everything that Jesus

taught us. That's the mission of every

disciple of Jesus, no matter how confident are strong.

You feel in doing this today. Now, how we're going to do that

is going to a very different from person to person.

I'm not saying everyone has to do it.

Exactly the same as me or you're doing it wrong.

That's not what this is about. Some people are going to feel

more confident boldly saying things wherever they are however

they want to say it. Others are going to be more

confident, doing that quietly one-to-one with people, they get

to know when they got opportunities.

But one thing is clear, if you're a disciple of Jesus, not

sharing the gospel isn't an option.

I think about what's been happening so far in the flow of

Mark, the last few chapters. The so and his seed is all about

sharing. The gospel news and leaving the

results of that up to God, the lamp on the stand and the

Mustard Seed Parables. They're all encouraging us about

the spread in the growth of the kingdom of God.

As we share it, even the mission, Jesus gives the demon

possessed guy, when he heals him shows this, I love that moment.

The guys brand new convert, our, can I come with you is first

prayer. Jesus as know.

Instead, he sends him on a mission, what does he say?

Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has

done for you. That's what disciples of Jesus

do. If we claim to know Jesus and

yet we never even think about sharing the gospel with people

we know and love. That's disobeying Jesus.

Yes, we want to think about the best ways to do that, but

Disciples of Jesus seek and pray to make more Disciples of Jesus.

They start in their own home and they spread out from there.

But wherever we are, that isn't just the job of pastors and

evangelists and that sort of thing or church staff that is

the job of every disciple of Jesus is to be a disciple making

disciple. It feels overwhelming, right?

I know there's some people going to be sought here going.

I know this done but I can't do anymore.

And so I think there are encouragement that Jesus gives

us in these verses as an aside. One of the encouragement is if

we were going to plan a short-term mission trip, we

would not choose these 12 men. Not in a million years I never

ever. Would you choose these 12 guys?

They've got no real skills. They're mainly fishermen not

known for their public speaking. That improperly get the gospel

message and they didn't properly understand who Jesus was in Mark

so far. The Disciples of only really got

in the way of Jesus's mission. They've got exasperated at Jesus

twice and of even opposed him at points.

You wouldn't send these guys out on the mission, if you are

planning your mission. But if you were one of marks

original readers, you'd be feeling bad and weak aware of

your own frailties and feeling like the gospel message, you

were sharing was mostly rejected and bearing no fruit.

And as a result, the sending of these idiots at this stage of

their understanding of Jesus would give you brilliant

comfort. And it would comfort you that

the power of the word of God doesn't depend on the abilities

of the messenger. But on the power and authority

of Jesus. The impact and the power of out

through us, it doesn't depend on our abilities on our power.

It depends entirely on the power and the authority of Jesus.

Which is both encouraging and humbling, right?

So no matter how weak we feel that encourages us, no matter

how strong we feel that. Humbles us, that we can do

nothing in our own strength, no matter how overwhelming.

What I've just said might feel how successful we are.

Doesn't depend on us. It all depends on Jesus.

And so we can go boldly in our weakness and trust him to do

what only he can do, wherever he calls us to do it.

And in this Mission Jesus gives the disciples and us, three

things to encourage us as we come to the last 10 minutes of

the sermon three things that we should expect.

As we go out on mission for Jesus, three things for us to

expect where we are. At least a few to expected.

You go to Nigeria, all of us are ever God, calls us to be a

disciple, making disciple. We can expect the same things

here. And the first thing we can

expect is for God to provide spoiler alert.

We can expect God to provide Verse 8 to 10.

These are his instructions, take nothing for the journey except a

staff, no bread, no bag no money in their belts wear sandals, but

not an extra shirt whenever you enter a house, stay there until

you leave that town. Now, what this is, I don't know

how many bags you're planning on taking with you tonight.

Syria. Add imagine at least one very

big suitcase. But to the disciples Jesus says

Pack Light. In fact, he says, pack

ridiculously light, it would be like, saying to the place is

just take your passport and a toothbrush, and you'll be fine.

No food, no bag, no money, no extra clothes, just go.

He says, cloak belt, sandals and staff off.

You go. Why why does Jesus tell them to

pack so light? Why does he tell them to only

take those four things and nothing else?

Primarily its to make sure that they Place their trust in God to

provide everything that they need instead of trusting in

their own supplies and their own abilities and their own

resources. See True.

Discipleship of Jesus is characterized by dependence on

Jesus for everything And dependence on Jesus is shown by

going where he calls us doing what he calls us to.

No matter the needs and the questions we might have about

that like these disciples and I also booked a hotel in advance

They have to turn up. Imagine that manly.

So now you just turn up in Nigeria where we going to live.

Let's wait and see instead when they go to a town and someone

welcomes them into their house as they would have done in these

days there to stay in that house.

Even if a better option comes up trusting that God will provide

all their needs on this mission for him and they can expect for

God to provide all their needs on this mission for him.

So they don't need to plan ahead and they don't need to plan for

God not to provide because he promised he will.

And these four items that they're told to take what also

reminded marks readers of somewhere in the Old Testament

because they are the exact same for items.

That God's people are told to take with them when they leave

Egypt in The Exodus, there's a deliberate mirror here by Mark

and mark is telling us that the mission of The Twelve announces

something. As equally as important and

revolutionary insignificant as The Exodus did for the people

leaving Egypt, God is doing something new on this Mission

and it's exciting and it's a big deal.

So it's disciples. We need to be ready for that and

living like that's the case. Free from anything that might

distract us or slow us down on this new project that God has us

involved in. And the same is true for us as

we go out to make disciples wherever we go we can and we

should expect God to provide all that we need money, energy,

people, places to live. God will provide all of our

needs as we go out on mission for him.

Somalis, I'm not saying don't sort of house out to live in.

I'm encouraged you to do that. Do that.

But when that, if that falls apart, when it's not as great as

it could be, when things do go wrong, you can expect God to

provide for every single one of your needs for all of us in our

communities, and our families, in our schools, in our

workplaces. God will provide all that we

need, as we reach out for him. Expect that.

Don't plan to fail. Then you weren't really try.

Expect God to provide As a church family, we've talked

about about finances as a church, but we expect and trust

that God will provide everything we need financially, as we go

forward and seek to make disciples in Clarendon Park and

beyond for him, we trust that God will provide the people we

need for the things. He calls us to do, we expect God

to do that because he's promised, he'll provide, all of

our needs. We don't want to go out in our

own strength. We got in our own strength will

achieve some stuff the way of any Eternal consequence.

We want to go out and his strength expecting God to

provide trusting him to provide praying for him to provide

calling on him to keep his promises.

That's something we can do together but there is impressed

nians together and call on God to do what God's promises going

to do for us. God loves it when he's people do

that. We are to expect God to provide

And the second thing we're to expect, though is rejection.

We are to expect rejection as we go out on mission for Jesus.

Rejection of both us and the message that we bring.

You see rejection is going to happen.

That's why this sending out comes just after Jesus himself

has just been rejected, if even, Jesus gets rejected, of course,

we're going to get rejected too. Verse 11.

If any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that

place and Shake the Dust off your feet as a testimony against

them. Jesus prepares the disciples for

the places. They go to not pay any attention

to the good news, even in the promised land, there are people

who will reject the promised one When they do Jesus says, leave

that place. He said something weird to us,

Shake the Dust off your feet. It's not because he even towns a

particularly dirty because in those days, if you were a Jewish

person, you have to fish territory for whatever reason.

When you came back into Jewish land, you would Shake the Dust

off your feet from the place you come from in case, any of that.

Dirty Heathen, dust pollutes. Your clean Promised Land It's a

symbol of those Outsiders are not welcome Where We Are.

And here Jesus is basically saying that if people reject the

message of the Apostles of the disciples there to be treated

like Outsiders to God's kingdom as heathens equal to dirty

Gentiles as far away from God. Disciples had to reject expect

rejection and we should expect the same.

Now, confession time, I've really struggled for many years

reading a lot of books on evangelism.

I won't name any by name that wouldn't be helpful, but one of

the reasons I've struggled reading them because when you

read them, they're always at her.

I went to a night party and Jesus, and people came, there

was another doesn't happen in my life.

That doesn't happen in my Rugby Club in my changing rooms in my.

See you at Uni, wherever that doesn't happen.

That's not my experience. The overwhelming wants to people

listening to Talk about Jesus who don't know him is, okay,

what's good for you? Very rarely people will outright

reject me and ever, right? Go with me.

But this usually indifference or rejection of the message.

And for a long time, very few books on evangelism that I read

really reflected that I can recommend some that don't do

that if you read any but on our mission is disciple making

disciples of Jesus. We should be prepared for people

to reject the message not in a, what's the point anyway.

Then Still do it, just be aware. It's going to happen.

Some people are going to reject the message, some people as

we're going to see in future weeks will reject the messenger.

Be prepared for that. Don't let It Crush you because

there are worse things that can happen Than People rejecting the

message you bring. But a more excitingly.

The third thing. We should also expect, it's

forgot work. God to work.

Look at what happens in verses 12 and 13 out and preached that

people should repent and they drove out many demons.

And Anointed with oil, many people who are ill and healed

them. Despite the link there in

Nazareth, they refuse to believe.

So there's no healings here, there are healings.

So the implication is people are believing the message.

And these hopeless unpredictable unprepared, idiot, disciples go

out, they share the gospel and they see God do incredible

things. Isn't that remarkable?

You would never have picked these men?

You'd never have chosen this method but they have the

authority of Jesus with them. And so they go and they

Faithfully obey, Jesus is called to go and make more disciples.

That's the same call we all have.

That's the same gospel. We all have is the same

authority. Jesus gives to us because he's

with us wherever we go and mission for him.

We might feel unprepared and unpredictable and hopeless, we

might feel like idiots, like these disciples but we have the

same authority of Jesus with us, so we too can go and expect God

to work. Discipleship of Jesus breeds

disciple making disciples how and where could we be more

deliberate? And praying, and thinking about

that, as a church, family in the next couple of weeks, maybe

spend some time in home groups, this week, praying about just

one person that the Lord has put on your heart that you'd love to

share the gospel with. Ask for help in doing that pray

for opportunities to share about them in the weeks ahead and pray

for them to come to know him for themselves.

And remember it is him. We want them to know.

That's our mission to promote Jesus.

So Jump Ahead to the next verse will, you I know it's

technically mics for a couple of weeks time but I'm sure we'll

let me read it. So the disciples go out on

So the disciples got a mission Herod hears about it.

What does he hear about? Because Jesus is name had become

well-known, the Disciples of the ones out on Mission.

Jesus gets heard about more, not the disciples.

And it's him. We want to lift up, not us but

our church not Avenue or a church for as mon-sol or

anything other than Jesus is name.

How can we do that this week? How could we be thinking in our

lives, that how where we could be more disciple making

disciples to? We can do it, expecting God, to

provide all that, we need expecting and prepared for

rejection. So, we're not crushed by it.

But expecting God to work, all all authority has been given to

Jesus and he's with us wherever we go.

So we can go to Let's not let our familiarity with Jesus, and

let's be honest, a familiarity with the rejection, Jesus faces.

Stop us from having faith in Jesus and doing what he calls us

to do. Let's go and be disciple making

disciples confidently going out for him in his authority,

expecting God to provide. Yes, expecting people to reject

us but also expecting and looking forward to seeing where

God is going to work, even though we can do nothing in our

own strength. Let's be praying for each other

as we go and do that this week. I'll hand over to Kate in a
