From Aaron to Jesus: The High Priest We Really Need (Exodus 28–29)

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so to give you a little bit of context, if you're just tuning in online or you're just getting tuned into Exodus, we've been going through Exodus for the last, I don't know, eight months.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this section of Exodus specifically is one people probably typically just kind of, dig a glance at, like, well, we'll skip through to the juicy parts.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna be talking about the priestly garments and the consecration of the priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what I have found is looking into it, there is actually so much good stuff here, which we don't have time to get into all of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: But finding out, just God is so good and seeing his hand on things in here, I'm gonna geek out on a couple of things as we go in.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just crazy because God shows us signs just everywhere.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just crazy when we open our eyes.

[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of times, this would be something people just kind of like, oh, yeah, yeah, they'd be doing this and then, all right, let's get to the other thing, oh, whoa, the golden calf.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whoa, it's read that, you know?

[SPEAKER_00]: So this is what we're going to dive into today, though.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to look at the priestly garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: We just saw the plans for the Tabernacle and looking at that and God's desire to dwell with us.

[SPEAKER_00]: What we see, though, is that we are broken.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what we're going to see today, is our need for the perfect one.

[SPEAKER_00]: are need for for that and that how we are not that, that we have a gracious and a loving God and I need for a real high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about that as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: So with that said, it may feel like I am blasting through certain parts and you're correct.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am because like I said, I don't know if you hear me the first, I'm like 80 something versus.

[SPEAKER_00]: So,

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to touch on some things.

[SPEAKER_00]: You may be like, oh, there's this on that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're right.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot we can dive into.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to be very focused on today and focused on what we're going to look at today.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that being said, if you have your Bibles, you can open them up or we're going to be, they'll have them on the screen as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Louis did that picture end up working?

[SPEAKER_00]: It did, okay, all right, yeah, perfect.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, cool, who's a visual learner, by the way?

[SPEAKER_00]: Great, me too.

[SPEAKER_00]: First time I read this, I was like, I don't know what they're talking about.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, they're talking about all kinds of things.

[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a picture, I'm like, oh, that's what they're talking about.

[SPEAKER_00]: So for you visual learners, like me, we'll continue to pop this up so that we can see, like, oh, okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's an e-fod.

[SPEAKER_00]: Great, because we don't do who wears that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You guys meet?

[SPEAKER_00]: No, me neither.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that's just something to kind of help us with our visual as we go through.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to try to break these up, but just going to pray for you guys just to bear with me on some of this, because some of it may sound a little repetitive.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, all right, 28, with that said, we're going to begin.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse one, it says,

[SPEAKER_00]: Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his son's Nadab, Abahoo, Eliasar, and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests, make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor, till all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom and such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron for his consecration, so he may serve me as priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: These are the garments they are to make, a breast piece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban, and a sash.

[SPEAKER_00]: They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his son, so they may serve me as priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: Have them use gold and blue and purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to take a quick second, our first little pause, and what I want to look at is God is like basically, and how I envision like downloading this stuff into Moses.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is all the stuff, how I want it to be, how I want things to look.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I also want to know is

[SPEAKER_00]: What we I think forget about is God, then is the same God we serve now and we see God in Jesus and what Ministry is supposed to look like all of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about that later.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what is happening while Aaron and all this stuff is being talked about like hey the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: God being all knowing remember that.

[SPEAKER_00]: God is all knowing there's no surprising God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron Moses is up in the mountain getting all this instruction, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Ten commandments all this stuff

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron is building a golden calf and is making an idol.

[SPEAKER_00]: And here we have God already picking him to be the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to point that out as is God loves us so much.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible says that Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

[SPEAKER_00]: And here we have Aaron making this big mistake already.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this guy is like already misleading them in his duties.

[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't even gotten the priesthood yet, but it's like he's already the mess up, but God's like, I'm still going to pick this guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still going to pick this guy.

[SPEAKER_00]: So one of the things we're going to talk about is the seriousness though of ministry.

[SPEAKER_00]: There is weight to that, and we see that with Aaron's sons later.

[SPEAKER_00]: I won't get too much into that, but two of Aaron's sons die because they did not do as God instructed.

[SPEAKER_00]: And even as a pastoral role, there is higher judgment in being a pastor, so there is a seriousness to it, but there also is the love that God has for us, and we're going to see that play out through Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get into that, but I just thought that was so cool that he in the midst

[SPEAKER_00]: It's still picking Aaron and then when you do go and see I won't steal thunder from later I think Nick's teaching on it, but we see when God is talking to Moses of like these people I'm going to start over and Moses is like no remember your promise like remember like you love them You brought them out like and I think what God is doing is having Moses restate these things to God Because then Moses goes down and gets angry and he can remember what he told the Lord

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that God uses us as well in our own flesh to point out his goodness as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, so we see our imperfections.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing we see is talking about the sacred garments, which we're going to dive into a lot.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to point out is that they were picked and they were clothed, the others were doing this to them.

[SPEAKER_00]: The priests did not do this themselves.

[SPEAKER_00]: So these were not the priests fashioning this stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: The priests consecrating themself.

[SPEAKER_00]: This was done to them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, as a representation of the Lord does this to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: We do not take this on ourselves.

[SPEAKER_00]: We aren't clothing ourselves with our own doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think if we do that, the pride would furthermore increase, like, look at this.

[SPEAKER_00]: I did that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I did this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is being done unto them.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, it's by skilled workers given wisdom.

[SPEAKER_00]: The same people making of the tabernacle are doing this unto the priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the same people giving this wisdom, what we see is from the tabernacle, also with the priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get into our first item of clothing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse six, it says, the FOD, we have that picture.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like an apron, maybe?

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so as I'm reading,

[SPEAKER_00]: Right up there.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the F on.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so you're like, I don't know what this is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Visual learners, there you go.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, make the F out of gold and blue and purple and Scarlet yarn of finely twisted linen.

[SPEAKER_00]: The work of skilled hands, it is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two corners so it can be fastened.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's skillfully woven waistband is to be like it of one piece with the F out and made of gold with blue, purple and Scarlet yarn and with finely twisted linen.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take two on-extones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel in the order of their birth.

[SPEAKER_00]: Six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other and engrave the names of the son of Israel on the two stones the way the gem cutters engrave a seal.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then mount the stone and gold filigree setting and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the FOD as memorial stones for the sons of Israel.

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulder as memorial before the Lord make gold filigree settings and two braided chains of pure gold like a rope and attach the chains to the settings.

[SPEAKER_00]: Visual learners, just look up there.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was talking about.

[SPEAKER_00]: The first time I read this, I was terrible at word problems when it came to math.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I don't know what it's talking about.

[SPEAKER_00]: When it's talking about these specific directions, I felt like it was similar.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what it's talking about is this robe like thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to know, and again, I'm gonna geek out on this in a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: But God is so good, and God shows Himself in so many ways, and it's really easy to look at that and they're like, okay, let's go next.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what I want to point out is what is this made of?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's made of the F out of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to point to is that this is we're going to go to Exodus 26 real quick.

[SPEAKER_00]: and you can either just listen or you can turn it yourself.

[SPEAKER_00]: 26 verse 31, it says, this is talking about the curtain for the holy of Holies.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, make a curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn with finely twisted linen, chair of them, woven into it with scuba workers, hang it with gold hooks on four posts of a case you would overlay it with gold standing on four silver bases.

[SPEAKER_00]: The colors and the intricacies, the only difference being the charibum and some of the rings, but it is a representation of that veil in the Holy of Holies, this set apart.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, why I bring that up, I will talk about later, but I want you to remember the similarities between the veil and what the priest is wearing on the outside.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about that, the on-extones.

[SPEAKER_00]: So on his shoulders, he has these stones with the tribes and scribed on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: with an engraved like a seal, a seal would have been representation of like ownership.

[SPEAKER_00]: So this high priest is essentially like taking the ownership in the burden on his shoulders for the tribes of Israel before the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now the the prophets were messengers from God, the priests are representation.

[SPEAKER_00]: They are servants to God, but representing the people to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that is what he's doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's bearing this weight

[SPEAKER_00]: to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is what the high priest is called to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it has their names on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Jesus, again, seeing this 2020, you know, 2000 foot view, whatever, Jesus bore the cross on his shoulders and bore not just the 12th night, but the sin of the world for generations.

[SPEAKER_00]: For all all the calm, he bore the sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as you go and start to see, we see Jesus fulfilling this role as the high priest, which we'll talk about continuously.

[SPEAKER_00]: But Jesus is the ideal high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see the flaws of man as the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: But Jesus being the fulfillment of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah 96 says this, it says, for for to us at child is born, to us as son as given, and the government will be on his shoulders, and he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, Prince of peace.

[SPEAKER_00]: and that is our high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see the parallels continue, but it's just so cool to see again the representation that we are seeing the fulfillment of.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to keep pushing a verse 15, the breast piece.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says fashion of breast piece for making decisions.

[SPEAKER_00]: The work of skilled hands make it like an effort of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet yarn, and a finely twisted linen.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is to be square and span long and a span wide and folded double.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then mount four rows of precious stones on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: The first row shall be Carnellian, Chryslet, and Barrel.

[SPEAKER_00]: The second row shall be Turquoise, Lapis, Luzoli, and Emeralds.

[SPEAKER_00]: The third row

[SPEAKER_00]: Is there anybody who's like a gem person, by the way?

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you am I saying any of these right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, there's one, there's always one that knows.

[SPEAKER_00]: I could have, I probably could have fooled the rest of you and be like, guys, this is what it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, no, that's totally wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I'm glad you're here.

[SPEAKER_00]: Azzuli, okay, there we go.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, guys, just give me some grace for trying, all right?

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's see, the fourth row should be topaz on Xen Jasper, mount them in a gold filigree setting, there to be 12 stones, one for each of the name of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of the 12 tribes.

[SPEAKER_00]: For the breast place, make a braided chain of pure gold, like a rope.

[SPEAKER_00]: Make two gold rings for it and fasten them the two corners of the breast piece.

[SPEAKER_00]: Fasten the two gold chains to the rings of the corner of the breast piece and the others to the chains of the two settings.

[SPEAKER_00]: Attach them to the shoulder pieces of the FOD at the front.

[SPEAKER_00]: Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breast piece on the inside of the FOD or next to the FOD.

[SPEAKER_00]: Make two more gold rings attached into the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the F-odd close to the seam just above the waistband of the F-odd.

[SPEAKER_00]: The rings of the breast piece are to be tied with the rings of the F-odd with blue cord connecting it to the waistband so that the breast piece will not swing from the F-odd.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 29, at when Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the Son of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Also put the Earl and the Thummin Thumminum in the breastpiece so they may be over Aaron's heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thus he will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that was a good chunk, but there are some stuff I want to go over.

[SPEAKER_00]: It starts with this plate of precious stones, so there's breast piece.

[SPEAKER_00]: And what it was is a span is like nine inches, so imagine this nine by nine gold plate with these precious stones in it with the engravings of the Israelites or the tribes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so one thing I'll mention, I'm a cop and I've been a cop for a while, I took a little bit of a break for a couple of years, but I'm back into it.

[SPEAKER_00]: But one of the things as a cop that we would sometimes have to put on, we have a regular vest, which is not too bad, it's just hot and just traps all the heat in there, it's like not comfortable.

[SPEAKER_00]: But then we have what's called a heavy vest, and it's this heavy plate that's supposed to protect us, and the thing is is like, you notice wearing that thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's not like you may have moments where you're like, okay, but then you move and you're like, oh my gosh, this thing is not comfortable to wear.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's heavy.

[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine this giant gold thing for the high priest would be similar.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it is a constant reminder.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you sometimes get into a move and then you're like, oh yeah, this thing is, I got to adjust.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not super comfortable.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's a reminder, one, I think of the weight of what he is carrying as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: the weight of what he's carrying, but also over his heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: That it is something that should not be taken lightly.

[SPEAKER_00]: That it has eternal impact.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, this is the weight of what he's carrying before the Lord, but it should be over his heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think again, these stones representing precious that we are precious in the Lord's sight.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna see that unfold as we continue to see Jesus come on seeing how much.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it says that he loved us while we were still sinners.

[SPEAKER_00]: It said that for he so loved the world that he gave is only to be gotten son, that who's so ever believes in him will not perish for a heavy turn of life.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like God loves us so much.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what this is is a physical representation of us before the Lord, but again, of also God of us, he loves us so much.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he wants the high priest to have that same love for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because we are grafted in, as believers, we are grafted in.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is talking about the 12 tribes, but we live in the new covenant, and we are grafted in to the family of the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so he does have a love for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he wants, again, this is that picture of having this over the heart as a reminder.

[SPEAKER_00]: It talks about the arm and the thumb of him.

[SPEAKER_00]: What this was is there were two stones.

[SPEAKER_00]: It talked about that he kept it in this plate thing, over his chest that he would remember over his heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: Priest would use it as a way of casting to find the Lord's decision in something.

[SPEAKER_00]: If they wanted a judgment on something, there was two stones.

[SPEAKER_00]: One was believed to be like a lighter stone.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other was a darker stone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when they would have something before the Lord, they would throw it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes they'd do it a couple of times.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's not an exact

[SPEAKER_00]: like description of what it would do to tell them, so some people think like, oh, depending on way the stones are positioned or the stones have like a supernatural change colors.

[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know, but what they do know is they would throw the stones and they would get their answer that they were seeking from the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so these were those two stones that he would cast these before the Lord if there was something that they were to ask.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now Moses spoke with the Lord, so there's a lot of debate, Aaron probably didn't need to use these, but high priest following them did.

[SPEAKER_00]: But anyways, that is what it's talking about over that, having these again the decisions for the people.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we're going to keep pushing because we still have a lot more.

[SPEAKER_00]: You guys see what I'm saying, though, about the words?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, is it a picture help?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay, great.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad there's some people out here like me.

[SPEAKER_00]: But again, this way didn't remind her.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, verse 31, we're gonna keep going.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 31, it says, make the robe of the effot entirely of blue cloth with an opening for the head in its center.

[SPEAKER_00]: There shall be a woven edge like a collar around this opening so that it will not tear.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 33, it says, make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe with gold bells between them.

[SPEAKER_00]: The gold bells, and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe, Aaron must wear it when he ministers.

[SPEAKER_00]: The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the holy place before the Lord, and when he comes out so that he will not die.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 36 says, make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as seal, holy to the Lord, fasten a blue cord to it and attach it to the turbine.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is to be on the front of the turbine and it will be on Aaron's forehead.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he will bear the guilt involved in the sacrifices or the sacred gifts, the Israelites consecrate.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever their gifts may be, it will be on Aaron's forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so we see this next piece.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it talks about at the bottom.

[SPEAKER_00]: these pomegranates and I don't know if you can see it on the picture not I can't remember if this picture shows it Okay, you can kind of see it these like bold type things and then you see these bells and they alternate throughout One of the things culturally the pomegranates represented was abundance is anybody a pomegranate fan Yeah, you're like oh, they're paying in the butt to eat.

[SPEAKER_00]: I agree, but they are delicious and Once you can get past all the seeds and everything it's like, man, that's really good But when you open up a pomegranate, what's inside?

[SPEAKER_00]: tons of seeds, tons of seeds, tons of fruit.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the thing of it is, is like the representation, again, of this priest, to be a bearer of fruit, to be having abundance in the sense of you are in the care of the people, like you should be yielding fruit.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then these bells, the bells, they are actually also used.

[SPEAKER_00]: behind the curtain, only the high priest was allowed, and the bells would be moving as they were moving, and it was also a way to know if they died.

[SPEAKER_00]: If the bells stopped, they meant, oh great.

[SPEAKER_00]: They mess something up and the priest has gone.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the bells were a way of like, okay, yeah, they're going, they're still moving.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.

[SPEAKER_00]: But again, this representation of abundance.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, this is what we're expecting in the high priest and what the Lord is saying is that we are to have this servanthood, this servant heart that yields fruit.

[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing that we're seeing is the holiness to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we are called to be holy before the Lord,

[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is that we are made holy not by us, but by what Jesus did.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to talk about this as we go through, as we continue to go through, all of the things of like, you got to do this, you got to do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so grateful we don't live in the time of Moses.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I can guarantee you the people in the time of Moses are very jealous of us.

[SPEAKER_00]: because they're like, what you guys can eat like crab and stuff like what you guys can eat ribs like pork what and so they're jealous of us I guarantee you but the thing of it is is like this is showing the seriousness of sin and the serious seriousness of being made right before the Lord

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what we're seeing is the weight of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're seeing, oh my gosh, there's a lot, just to be, and we're going to continue to see that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I want you guys to pay attention to that as well, that the holiness before the Lord, that it was on his head, that we are going to be made holy, that he is a servant to the Lord not to man.

[SPEAKER_00]: He represents the people to the Lord, but at the end of the day, he's serving the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: OK, let's see where we 39, yes, 39.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, we have the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen.

[SPEAKER_00]: The sash is to be the work of embroiderer, make tunic sashes and caps for errand sons to give them dignity and honor.

[SPEAKER_00]: After you put these on, clothe your brother, errand, and his sons, anoint them or dain them, consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: make then linen garments as an under as a covering for the body reaching from the waste to the thigh.

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister to the holy place so they will not incur guilt and die.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is to be the lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we saw that mention a couple of things.

[SPEAKER_00]: A tunic, the turban, the sash, the linen, and underwear is what they're supposed to wear, which they're probably appreciative of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, and then it says, to anoint or dane and consecrate.

[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk more about that in a little bit.

[SPEAKER_00]: But essentially what they're doing is they were chosen set apart and made clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is what they were called to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we see the linen garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: One of the things we'll talk about in the get in the second, that I just want to mention, is that it does include a sash.

[SPEAKER_00]: for them.

[SPEAKER_00]: They have all these beautiful garments and all these things but the thing is at the end of the day they have a sash, a sash is essentially like a belt and what that was is when you had your robe and you can see again even in the new testament like what talked about like they girded themselves up.

[SPEAKER_00]: They would have these flowy robes and when it was time to do work they would grab it and they would tuck it into their belt and make like little shorts.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like, all right, it's time to work.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so again, it's like, the priest is like, y'all are called the work, too.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we did not give you a sash.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got a sash.

[SPEAKER_00]: Time to get to work, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing is like, one of the things I really respect.

[SPEAKER_00]: is we went to refresh conference in Colorado and my friend Luke had never been there.

[SPEAKER_00]: He'd never been a part of Calvary or whatever.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, we go and Ed Taylor is the head pastor and we run into Ed and I've talked to Ed a couple of times and Ed's pushing a trash can around at the end of the night picking up trash.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we're talking to Ed and Luke's talking to him, and he's just like, oh, okay, how are you?

[SPEAKER_00]: Nice to meet you with your name.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I realized he has no idea who Ed Taylor is.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm like, okay, that's cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: And at the end of it, like, I'm like, that's the pastor of the church here.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he was just like, what?

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, no way.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, that's the pastor.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, oh, wow, that's so crazy.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember us talking about it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, you would never know, again, because he is being such a picture of what a servant should look like.

[SPEAKER_00]: But not because of Ed's awesome.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's emulating what Jesus said before him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as pastors, as leaders, as believers, we're called to do the same thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, we're called to be servants.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so here it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's saying, we are called to be a servant.

[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are still called to work.

[SPEAKER_00]: Even though you guys are the priests, like, you got your sash.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got to work.

[SPEAKER_00]: And anyways, I thought that was a cool picture, hopefully I didn't steal some crowns or some jewels and adds crown for telling you guys, but it was really cool to see that, you know, again, Chuck Smith, they would say the same thing that Chuck would be out in the parking lot, picking up trash at the end of service.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and it's just such a picture of humility and serving, but it's because they're modeling after,

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus was the ultimate servant, and the more in-demonistory you are, it's not like I'm here, guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: Serve me.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like we should be the we should still be serving.

[SPEAKER_00]: Even more so like that's the thing is they're saying you got your sash Like you're gonna you're gonna get to work to like don't worry guys.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna get to work anyways Again the picture of the high priest in the picture of the priest in general Guys we just made it through 28 we were gonna hit a couple of things back in 28 and a little bit But we're making pretty good time I talked fast and we're already one chapter in we're gonna go through 29 next.

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you guys still with me?

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, good.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, 29.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it says, uh, this is again talking about the consecration of the priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says,

[SPEAKER_00]: First one, this is what you are to do to consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take a young bull and two rams without defect and make the finest wheat flour, make round loaves without yeast, thick loaves without yeast, and with olive oil mixed in and thin loaves without yeast and brushed with olive oil.

[SPEAKER_00]: Put them in a basket and present them along with the bull and two rams.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then bring Aaron's son to the entrance of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take the garments and dress Aaron with the tunic and the robe and the ephod, the ephod itself and the breast piece, fasten the ephod on him by it's skillfully woven waistband, put the turban on his head and attach the sacred emblem to the turban.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on his head, bring his sons and dress them in tunics and fasten caps on them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons and the priesthood is theirs by the lasting ordinance.

[SPEAKER_00]: then you show ordain Aaron and his sons.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to start with saying, they're talking about a couple of things.

[SPEAKER_00]: One, it says, one bowl and two ramps.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk more about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But that's, again, for the sins.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then it talks about the unleavened bread representing the ceremony of fellowship with the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: We see that Aaron and his sons, again, what is done to them, it says that they were washed.

[SPEAKER_00]: They were not washing themselves, they were washed, and they were quite literally bathed outside of the tent.

[SPEAKER_00]: So people could see them for one.

[SPEAKER_00]: So think about the humbling experience.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're literally being cleaned one by other people and like outside.

[SPEAKER_00]: So this is like a public viewable cleansing that they are going through.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it says that they're cleaned with water, that they're washed with water.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, take them and dress them in the clothes that were made.

[SPEAKER_00]: So all these clothes were made.

[SPEAKER_00]: And ordained them.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then again, they have their sashes in there as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 10.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, bring the bull to the front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his son shall lay their hands on its head.

[SPEAKER_00]: Slotter it in the Lord's presence at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take some of the bull's blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger and pour out the rest of it at the base of the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then take all the fat on the internal organs, the low on the river, not the river.

[SPEAKER_00]: the liver and the kidneys with fat on them and burn them on the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: But burn the bull's flesh and its hide and its intestines outside the camp, it is a sin offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take one of the Rams and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on his head, slaughter it and take the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: Cut the ram into pieces and wash the internal organs and the legs, putting them with the head and the other pieces, then burn the entire ram on the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: So first we see is the bull offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we're seeing the ram burnt offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the first sin, and then the burnt offering for the first ram, we're going to talk about the second ram here and right now in verse 19.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, take the other ram and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head.

[SPEAKER_00]: Slotter it takes some of its blood and put the lobes on the right ears of Aaron and his sons and the thumbs on their right hands.

[SPEAKER_00]: On the big toes of their right feet, then splash blood against the sides of the altar and take some blood from the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it.

[SPEAKER_00]: on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: They will be his sons and their garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take from the fat tail and the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, both kidneys, with the fat on them and the right thigh.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the ram for ordination.

[SPEAKER_00]: From the basket of bread made without yeast, which is before the Lord, take one round loaf, one thick loaf, and with olive oil mixed in, one thin loaf.

[SPEAKER_00]: Put all of these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and have them wave them before the Lord as a wave offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: A food offering presents to the Lord and after you take the breast of the ram for Aaron's ordination, wave it before the Lord as a wave offering and it will be your share.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to pause there for a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of things, again, for this consecration, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what we have is we have the bull and the two rams.

[SPEAKER_00]: The bull we see is sacrifice as the sin offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: The ram is the burnt offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the second ram we see.

[SPEAKER_00]: It talks about the blood on the right ear and the right hand and the right toe.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about that in a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this was the transferring of the sins from the priest from Aaron and his sons onto these so that they could be made clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that is what we're seeing.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're seeing this happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: The transfer of the blood on the right side, the right side represents like the blessed favorite or the best side.

[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of times when you see the Bible mentioning the right, it's always in a positive view.

[SPEAKER_00]: Meaning you left these in the room.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.

[SPEAKER_00]: Lord doesn't love you as much.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm just kidding.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the right side is what it's saying is like the good side.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so it says the right ear.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what this is representing of is giving the prescibility to hear the Lord correctly.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like an anointing of the blood on their ear.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then it says the right hand, and I think that's to do the work of the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: and then the right big toe to walk in the way of a Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then it says onto their clothes and their garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, this is similar to what we see to the temple to make them clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now one, I can say I am really glad that we are past all of this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Are there any hunters in the room?

[SPEAKER_00]: one?

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, great.

[SPEAKER_00]: So a lot of you guys were a little squeamish when we were reading this, like the kidneys?

[SPEAKER_00]: The liver?

[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, gross.

[SPEAKER_00]: The thing of it is, is, okay, yeah, hunters, like this is very familiar.

[SPEAKER_00]: These priests, like when they do these sacrifices, they're like,

[SPEAKER_00]: They get down on some, cutting up some animals, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: They're, I mean, this is food for them, too.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see that in a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, the, the, a portion of this that they're going to eat.

[SPEAKER_00]: But again, this is something that is done.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, to show the seriousness of sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing that I want to mention is it's going to talk about these daily sacrifices that happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the daily sacrifices, again, is a temporary thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: because sin keeps happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: They keep having to make these sacrifices.

[SPEAKER_00]: They keep having to do all this stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: But again, this is just to get these priests in a place where they can serve the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's talked about a wave offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says the low of the liver, kidneys with fat, the right thigh, basket of bread without yeast, one round loaf, one thick loaf, and oil mixed in with one thin loaf.

[SPEAKER_00]: What they would actually do is they would get all this and they would like wave it to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly why.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, some of you guys are not like, whoa, yeah, you know what's because this might, what I think it is, it's like a way of like representing, from one, all of those things, fat was a desirable thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: All those things were considered like good things.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like we are giving to you the good things that you've given to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think it's that representation of like, we're giving to you the good things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe some of you guys are like, oh no, I studied this in seminary saying that's not it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, that's my opinion.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, and so they wave up before the Lord and then they burn it.

[SPEAKER_00]: So then they burn that up.

[SPEAKER_00]: But then there's a section that they get to keep.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, after you take the breast of the ram from Aaron's ordination, wave it again, wave it before the Lord and it will be your share.

[SPEAKER_00]: So now we're going to see that they do get to partake in part of the annual sacrifices.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that was one of the things that the priest would do in the temple is that's how they would get fed.

[SPEAKER_00]: The sacrifices, some of them were to be burnt.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it, they're gone, they're completely burnt.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then some of them were cooked, essentially, and it's like, all right, and we got some food.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so that was the thing, that's how the priests were also fed.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to keep going in verse 27.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, Concentrate, those parts of the ordination of the ram that belongs to Aaron and his sons, the breasts that was waived in the thigh that was presented.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is always to be the perpetual share from the Israelites for Aaron and his sons.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is a contribution.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Israelites are to make to the Lord from their fellowship offerings.

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron's sacred garments will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them.

[SPEAKER_00]: The son who succeeds him as priests and comes to the tent of the meeting place to minister in the holy place is to wear them seven days.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take the ram for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred place at the entrance to the tent of meeting Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket.

[SPEAKER_00]: They are to eat these offerings by which the atonement was made for their ordination and consecration, but no one else may eat them because they are sacred.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if any of the meat of the ordination ram or any bread is left over to the morning, burning up, it must not be eaten because of the sacred.

[SPEAKER_00]: Do for Aaron and his sons, everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sacrifice a bull each day as a sin offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: to make atonement and purify the altar by making the atonement for it and annoying it to consecrate it for seven days, make atonement for the altar and consecrate it, then the altar will be most holy and whatever it touches will be holy.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if you guys just caught that this happened for seven days.

[SPEAKER_00]: seven days of this of the priests going through to be into able to enter into this priesthood.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so again, something I'm very grateful that we're not having to do today.

[SPEAKER_00]: But again, it does show the seriousness of sin, because what they were doing is God gave very specific directions on this is just to be able to serve me.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is what you have to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Get this blood, oh, get that part of the, yep, get that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can do this with that, like it's so specific and you can't alter from what the Lord said.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna see later, not today, but Aaron and, sorry, two of Aaron's sons, they when they first start to go make sacrifices, they mess it up.

[SPEAKER_00]: They do it in a way that God told them not to and they both die.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, it shows the gravity of what the Lord says, but also the holiness of the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are not perfect and we're going to see that continue through the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk about that in a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to jump ahead, but we're going to talk about that here again in a second.

[SPEAKER_00]: But these are a seven-day process.

[SPEAKER_00]: What we did see is they would partake in the eating, eating of the food, but this was a seven-day thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to keep going in verse 38.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, this is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day, two lambs, a year old, offer one in the morning and the other at twilight.

[SPEAKER_00]: With the first lamb offer a tenth of the F.A.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the finest flower mixing with a quarter of hen of oil from press olives and a quarter of hen of wine as a drink offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sacrifice the other limb at twilight with some grain offering and its drink offering as in the morning, pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: For generations to come, this burnt offering is being made regularly at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: There I will meet

[SPEAKER_00]: you and speak with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: There I will also meet with the Israelites and the place will be consecrated by my glory.

[SPEAKER_00]: So I will consecrate the tent of meeting in the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be there God.

[SPEAKER_00]: They will know that I am the Lord of God who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them.

[SPEAKER_00]: I am the Lord there God.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what we're seeing is, first of all, all of these rituals that we're taking place, all of these sacrifices because the debt was big.

[SPEAKER_00]: The debt was big, but ultimately, God wanted to dwell among his people.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what he's saying.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to dwell among the Israelites.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to live with them.

[SPEAKER_00]: What we have is one, we see that this was a constant need.

[SPEAKER_00]: The sacrificing of sins, the atonement.

[SPEAKER_00]: There were sin sacrifices for all the different types of stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: There was the unintentional sins that you didn't know that you did.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then there were these daily sacrifices that happened.

[SPEAKER_00]: The day of atonement.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there are all these things that thing was, is the need for the sacrifice never stopped.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was always going, why?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because we are flawed.

[SPEAKER_00]: because we are sinners.

[SPEAKER_00]: That is the thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we are in need of a substitute and this was the placeholder while the true lamb Jesus comes on the scene and he covers it all.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, we are so blessed to live in the time that we do like don't get me wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: There are things that we talk about like, oh man.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they didn't have to deal with social media back in the day.

[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have to deal with the things.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's true, yes.

[SPEAKER_00]: We all have our own battles that we're facing that are different.

[SPEAKER_00]: But guys, we have the ability to have the Lord not just dwell among us, but dwell in us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that is so cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like these guys are like, man, just to go up in this room, I gotta do this.

[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, I do all these crazy things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like you see that got blood, put on my ears, my big toe.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I got a weird toe.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like all these things that are happening, that it's like just to be able to come into his service.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus made it so easy.

[SPEAKER_00]: He made it so easy.

[SPEAKER_00]: He took all of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the perfect high priest, but he's also the perfect sacrifice.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: I wanna get into that.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's as we've been covered by the blood of Christ.

[SPEAKER_00]: Christ and Greek means the anointed one.

[SPEAKER_00]: that he is the anointing one.

[SPEAKER_00]: First John chapter one, it says, this is the message we have heard from him and declared to you, God is light in him.

[SPEAKER_00]: There is no darkness at all.

[SPEAKER_00]: If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live in the truth.

[SPEAKER_00]: But if we walk in light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his son purifies us from all sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: uh... if we claim to be without sin we lie uh... we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us if we confess our sins he is faithful and just it will forgive us our sins and purifies from all unrighteousness if we claim we have not sined we make him out to be a liar in his word is not in us

[SPEAKER_00]: guys what it's saying is that God is like God is perfect that is why we see them have to go through so much just to come into his presence or even just to serve him because of his holiness.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible says that our best is like dirty rags compared to the Lord and so this is just to come into a place of like okay we can serve him and only one person can go into into a place where they can meet with him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is saying like, guys, the weight of what we carry is real.

[SPEAKER_00]: When Adam and Eve fell, that was the introduction of death into sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is that God is perfect, and He has no darkness in Him.

[SPEAKER_00]: The thing is that we are made holy not because of what we do, but because of Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: That it says, by His blood, His sacrifice for all.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I can say that we're super grateful for that, because we don't have to go and do this daily thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now don't get me wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: In the sense of, we don't have to daily physically sacrifice something, but what I do think that we should take from this is that they do make daily sacrifices, the thing is I do believe we should keep short accounts with the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: because James tells us if you let this desire creep into you that it will grow into sin James James chapter one, basically which gives way to death, meaning if we start to let evil root in us, that will grow.

[SPEAKER_00]: So when we mess up, being quick to repent of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: When we have something that we're struggling with, being quick to repent of that, the Bible says confess your sins to one another so that you may be healed.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not so that you may be forgiven, but the thing is if you're struggling with something, that's again the power of community and the power of fellowship is we're called one to carry that burden for each other, but it's also accountability.

[SPEAKER_00]: Cause guess what, we're all flawed.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are all flawed.

[SPEAKER_00]: We all make mistakes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we do have sins, but it says that the blood of Jesus is what covers us.

[SPEAKER_00]: that we no longer have to do all the sacrifices, just like when we saw the Israelites in the desert get bit by the snake, it said, the cure is looked to the pole and you'll be healed.

[SPEAKER_00]: The cure for sin is looked to Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: He did everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just accepting Jesus, having it in your heart, and then our life is a reflection of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We don't do it by works, we don't earn it.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're not doing it by all we get the blood on the earlobe.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's done, like that's over with.

[SPEAKER_00]: But these are our pictures of the daily sacrifices that they did.

[SPEAKER_00]: I wanna close with this is that God does want to dwell in us.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to dwell in you.

[SPEAKER_00]: First Corinthians tells us that we are his temple and his spirit dwells in us.

[SPEAKER_00]: that we have access to the Father.

[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about earlier the geek out moment, and I want to bring that to its fruition.

[SPEAKER_00]: When Jesus died on the cross in the temple, do you guys know what was torn?

[SPEAKER_00]: The curtain, right that veil was torn, that curtain was torn.

[SPEAKER_00]: You guys remember what I said it was made of?

[SPEAKER_00]: Can we go back to that picture?

[SPEAKER_00]: The curtain that we talked about and the F-F-OD.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to talk about again is I think something that is super cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, what was given politically, sorry, invalidicists about the priest garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to read this to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says chapter 20, or sorry, chapter 21, verse 10, it says the high priest, the one among his brothers, who had the anointing oil poured on his head, who had been ordained to where the priestly garments must not let his hair be kind of kept or tear his clothes.

[SPEAKER_00]: So the high priest under Levitical Law was told, do not tear your clothes.

[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?

[SPEAKER_00]: The veil was torn when Jesus died on the cross.

[SPEAKER_00]: Get ready to, I feel like get your mind blown.

[SPEAKER_00]: When Jesus was talking to the high priest, Khyapis, before he was sentenced to death.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna go there, Matthew chapter 26, verse 63, it says, the high priest said to him, I charge you under the oath of the living God.

Matthew 26:63

[SPEAKER_00]: Tell us if you were the Messiah, the Son of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: You have said so, Jesus replied, but I say to all of you, from now on, you will see the son of man sitting at the right hand of the mighty one and coming in the clouds of heaven.

[SPEAKER_00]: The high priest tore his clothes and said, He has spoken blasphemy, why do we need any more witnesses?

[SPEAKER_00]: Now look, you have heard the blasphemy.

[SPEAKER_00]: What I think is so crazy is when Jesus died that veil was torn, we see the high priest over the Israelites, tear his clothes, which he was not to do at all.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the other thing was is that that same material on the top is the same as the curtain.

[SPEAKER_00]: So what I think it was, it was again, the end of the Levitical Law of hate

[SPEAKER_00]: Now, people have access to God through Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: But guess what?

[SPEAKER_00]: The high priest is done.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Jesus is the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was this perfect imagery of Jesus coming through, talking to the one who was charged with looking over his people.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, the heart being the issue and Jesus being the only one that can actually fulfill that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, people will always let you down.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to tell you that right now, pastors, leaders, we will always let you down why because we are people.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's pastors I've looked up to that have made mistakes, and at the end of the day, their flawed don't get me wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: As a pastor, we are called to live a certain way.

[SPEAKER_00]: And there are certain things that we are called to live and how we are called to live.

[SPEAKER_00]: Otherwise we're not fit to be in this role, but the thing is at the end of the day, we are people too.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you elevate a person,

[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of elevating Jesus, you were going to be let down.

[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you.

[SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, ask my wife.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm full of flaws.

[SPEAKER_00]: She could list the whole bunch of them, but I've got tons.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not perfect.

[SPEAKER_00]: Don't look to me, look to Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: My job is to point you to him.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's my job.

[SPEAKER_00]: Point you to him and tell you, listen, I'm not great.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not.

[SPEAKER_00]: I have tons of flaws, but Jesus is the perfect high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so we see that that robe is torn, and I believe that is the representation of the end of the high priest of man, and it is Jesus being the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: Hebrews 7, verse 26 says this.

Hebrews 7:26

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, such a high priest truly meets our needs, one who is holy, blameless, and pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens, unlike the other high priest, he does not need to be to offer sacrifices day after day.

[SPEAKER_00]: First for his own sins and then for the sins of his people, he sacrificed for his sins, ones and for all when he offered himself.

[SPEAKER_00]: When the law appoints as high priest men in all their weaknesses, but in oath, which came from the law, appointed the son who has been made perfect forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: The law was our reflection.

[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at Levitical Law, it was our reflection of a mirror to look at our flaws in need of a savior.

[SPEAKER_00]: The law was that.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was, okay, you guys aren't perfect.

[SPEAKER_00]: Let me show you how imperfect you guys are.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think the high priest was also a mirror to show, you guys can't do this.

[SPEAKER_00]: But there is one who can and that is Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is the one that can do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is the one that we need.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, men, we are flawed.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have flaws, but it is through Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anything good that comes out of me, I promise you, that's what it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is not me.

[SPEAKER_00]: First Peter, it talks about how as believers now, so talking to us as believers that we are called to be a part of a royal priesthood.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that being said, you no longer have to go to the high priest or go to the priest for your messed-ups.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can go directly to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: because of what Jesus did.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible says that Jesus is the only way to the Father, not a way, the only way.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it was because of what He did that we have access to the Father.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so because of that, we do have that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're not called the where, the spiritual robes of the physical stuff anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: And the sense of like the E-FOD, you don't see us walking around with that.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the Bible does talk about we are called to dress ourselves with the armor of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that is what we are called to where.

[SPEAKER_00]: We are in the age of the new covenant, meaning the things of old, the things of the time of the Israelites, when Jesus came in the scene, things changed, and I, for one, I'm super grateful, because like I said, I do love, crab, and shrimp, and all those things.

[SPEAKER_00]: But aside from that, the little things, the big things, though, too, that I can just come before the Lord and be like, God, I messed up.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I thank you for Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for what He did.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for just cleanse me from the inside out, because I want your spirit to dwell in me.

[SPEAKER_00]: And to have that, and to know that.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just something so sweet that I think that we live in a time and a generation when we really take that for granted.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I guarantee you, if we did a week of doing something like this, we're like, oh my gosh.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thank God that we don't have to do that anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus, thank Jesus that we don't have to do that anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, it is the weight that he bore and that was a temporary thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: There are two rituals that we still continue to this day, though, are that we do this day, baptism and communion.

[SPEAKER_00]: And communion is remembrance of what Jesus did.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're no longer doing the wave offering, we're no longer doing any of that or whatever, but we are called to come into baptism as a new believer.

[SPEAKER_00]: The oldest dying made new in Jesus and taking in communion to remind ourselves of what Jesus did for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what I wanna do is I wanna close.

[SPEAKER_00]: There is a lot more that you guys can dive into that on.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to caution you with that, but there was also a lot that we went over and I wanted to be very focused.

[SPEAKER_00]: And really what it is is our need for Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what I want to do is I want to take some time, we're going to step into communion now.

[SPEAKER_00]: But as we do,

[SPEAKER_00]: I want you to come before the Lord because we can, we can.

[SPEAKER_00]: We can come before Him with our mistakes.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you made a mistake today or whatever, whatever, maybe taking that time and just appreciating God, I just thank you that I can even come before you right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Lord, I ask you, forgive me in my sins and Lord, I just pray that we can just live for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And as we take communion, what I'll say is, if you're in a spot right now and you don't know what you believe, you're like, I'm still trying to figure out church.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what I believe about Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Don't take communion.

[SPEAKER_00]: I would be remiss as a pastor to just be like, yeah, the Bible says don't take it in an unworthy way.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're not sure, just don't take it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're not going to judge you for it.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing is it's a very serious thing in the sense of we're remembering what Jesus did for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so I want to give you guys time to do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just to come before the Lord will pray and will close in the song.

[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll give you guys some time to do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: So let's pray.

[SPEAKER_00]: Dear Heavenly Father Lord, we just thank you for your goodness, we thank you for your grace and we thank you that even in the midst of reading all these things that these different rituals and Lord, we see your goodness, we see your grace and Lord, we just see your fulfillment, Lord, in the Old Testament through Jesus being the high priest and Lord, I just thank you, I thank you

[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have to go through the things and Lord that Jesus took on everything that we've done.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Bible says that while we were still sinners at our worst, that he did it for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Lord, we just thank you for that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we just pray to become before you right now.

[SPEAKER_00]: Pray that you just cleanse us, cleanse our hearts when I pray.

[SPEAKER_00]: Lord, that you just fill us with your Holy Spirit Lord, and that we are so grateful to have it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I just pray that we can live a life that points others to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not because of how awesome we are, but Lord, just because they can know you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we just thank you.

[SPEAKER_00]: We praise you in Jesus' name, Amen.
