Rest In His Work (Exodus 30-31)

[SPEAKER_00]: So today's message title is rest in his work, rest in his work, and you'll see why, but again, there's a lot of good nuggets here, but to kind of reset the scene, if you haven't been here for a while, may you're just joining in, or just to remind us, or refresh, or is that we're still on Mount Sinai here in Exodus chapter 30, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Moses is still on Mount Sinai.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's meeting with God, God still speaking.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's giving Moses very specific.

[SPEAKER_00]: intentional instructions for how not only to build the Tabernacle, but his overarching theme is how can God dwell with his people?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's really the theme of what's going on with the Tabernacle, with the priest and the things we'll see even today, as well as how can God who's wholly set apart dwell with sinful people?

[SPEAKER_00]: So everything we're going to start to see in Exodus chapter

[SPEAKER_00]: It's pointing us.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm sure some of you can guess, but it's all pointing towards and to Jesus, which is a beautiful thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see today there's how can we come before God and we see the incense that's burning in the Tabernacle, which would be a picture or a

[SPEAKER_00]: a symbol of our prayers coming up before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: We have access to God.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see cleansing.

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to see a tone mint holding this spirit empowered work and we're going to see, as I called the study rest in his work, we're going to see rest and how should we do that in all points to Jesus who has done and fulfilled it all.

[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, Sam did a great job covering two chapters.

[SPEAKER_00]: I gave him, you know, I said, hey, if you can, 28, 29, but you don't have to, but he did it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he did a great job.

[SPEAKER_00]: And last week, I mean, Exodus 28, we see that God starts to design or give Moses the design for the priestly garments.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, the robes that would symbolize dignity and honor that before God, they're these kind of intricate fabrics and then there's precious stones, there's gold, there's embroidered threads and all these, I don't know, complicated things in a way.

[SPEAKER_00]: But these weren't just to look good, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the E-FOD, Sam went over that, and he had a picture of what it might even look like.

[SPEAKER_00]: But what the E-FOD would do is they would carry the names of the tribes on the priest's shoulders, and that was a picture or representation of the priest representing the people before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the breast piece that would carry the names of the tribes of Israel over his hearts, which would be a sign of picture of affection, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And Tim Chester, he's a pastor,

[SPEAKER_00]: theologian.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says that the high priest garments, they displayed God's decision about his people that they are his jewels and his very precious ones, his kids.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's really what it resembles.

[SPEAKER_00]: But there's one problem and Sam did a good job of talking about is that the priest

[SPEAKER_00]: is a sinner too, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: While Moses is getting instructions about what they should wear and what the priest should do and Aaron would be the first high priest and his sons would follow after him, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Moses is up there on the mountaintop and next week we're going to be in Exodus 32 and we'll see what Aaron was up to and he was up to no good.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's leading the people away to literally do what they shouldn't do.

[SPEAKER_00]: God said, have no other gods before me and Aaron, and the people they decide that it's a good idea to make an idol, a false god of a golden calf.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the problem is like, okay, we have these garments, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: These priests who are supposed to carry the names before, before God, but the priest himself is a sinner too, which tells us shows us that he needs cleansing, he needs atonement.

[SPEAKER_00]: Chapter 29 is very much that is where that God tells them, like, how can this priest be ordained or nation ceremonies, essentially what it is?

[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes over, he needs to be washed with water, he needs to be dressed in holy garments, he needs to be anointed with oil.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you remember, he needs to have blood applied to his ear, to his thumb, and to his toe, which would be the symbol of, he needs to hear God's word, be anointed to hear, he needs to be anointed to do, and he must be anointed to walk in the ways of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Then before,

[SPEAKER_00]: Because before he can represent Israel before God, the priest sin must be dealt with.

[SPEAKER_00]: And at the end of chapter 29, God reminds us, and this is again his overarching theme where he says, that I will dwell among them, and I will be their God.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's God's desire.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to dwell with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to dwell with me.

[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to dwell with his people.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this has been the theme, and is the theme throughout all of Scripture, and all the way to Revelation, where it says that God's places with man, he dwells with us, who dwells among us.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this is God's heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: And what God's doing in Exodus,

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all of this, what we can say, maybe seems dry, complicated, maybe some of you read through and like it's kind of boring sometimes, but God's creating this framework that Moses would implement that Jesus, 100 years later, would fulfill.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because Jesus is our true, high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: He is the true tabernacle and he's the true sacrifice for our sins.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so going to verse 1 of chapter 30 will read through the first 10 verses.

[SPEAKER_00]: God says, you shall make an altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: on which to burn incense, you shall make of it, make it of a casherwood, a cubit shall be its length, the cubit its breath, it shall be square and two cubits shall be its height.

[SPEAKER_00]: Its horns shall be of one piece with it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 3, you shall overlay it with pure gold, it's top and around its sides and its horns and you shall make a molding of gold around it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you shall make two golden rings for it, under its molding on two opposite sides of it, you shall make them, and they shall be holders for poles with which to carry it.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall make the poles of a case of wood and overlay them with gold, and you shall put it in front of the veil that is above the arc of the testimony, in front of the mercy seat that is above the testimony where I will meet with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Every morning when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it, and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the Lord throughout your generations.

[SPEAKER_00]: You still not offer unauthorized incense on it, or a burnt offering or a grain offering, and you shall not pour a drink offering on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron shall make a torment on it's horns once a year, with the blood of the sin offering of a torment he shall make a torment for it once and the year throughout your generations.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is most holy to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is the first chunk, and we see the altar of incense, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: This is a little bit different than the altar that we saw earlier in the Tabernacle where the sacrifices would be made.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is the altar of incense, and we see God has some very specific instructions on how to do it, doesn't he?

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, you're this isn't for a drink offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't for you to give your, your, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh

[SPEAKER_00]: your sin offering, this is for an altar of incense.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, incense throughout Scripture from all what we can tell is that it resembles symbolizes prayer, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Prayer, there's some verses that we could go to to look this up, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: David Wright, Psalm 141, 2, he says, let my prayer be counted as incense before you.

[SPEAKER_00]: another one that you might be familiar with in Revelation says the prayers of the saints that's God's people that's the church right our incense before God's throne so there's this powerful imagery that's going on where incense would resemble man's prayer

[SPEAKER_00]: before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you notice, he says that he needs to do it daily, and it's twice a day, isn't it?

[SPEAKER_00]: In the morning, he's to burn incense.

[SPEAKER_00]: At night, twilight, the evening time, he's to burn incense, and to resemble this un- never-seasing, unending prayer,

[SPEAKER_00]: unto God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And isn't that what Paul teaches us too, who he says, pray without ceasing?

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, it's just this idea, again, this imagery we see in the tabernacle of where God desires our worship, our prayer.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you see where the altar of incense is positioned, it's positioned before the veil.

[SPEAKER_00]: Again, this might be hard for us to kind of visually see and understand sometimes, but symbolically, right as placed right in front of the veil, which would be the divider between the holy place and the holy of holys.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the altar of incense would be before the veil.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you remember Sam mentioned this last week where it's like Jesus,

[SPEAKER_00]: tore the veil, and he was crucified on the cross.

[SPEAKER_00]: He said, it is finished, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And then the veil was torn.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's like now there is no division between God and man because there is now a mediator who is Jesus who breaks that veil for us.

[SPEAKER_00]: But if you think of it right, the prayers of us, of the people of God, they go up before God before the veil

[SPEAKER_00]: every day, right, day in height and offer the incense before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Prayer has this rhythm to it and it's an unending rhythm.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we could definitely go into a sub-teaching of prayer what it is, but I hope you understand and I hope that you know that God wants to hear your prayers.

[SPEAKER_00]: But there's also a sense that our sin, not even a sense this is the biblical truth, our sin hinders our prayer before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: God wants to hear our prayers, but there's this barrier between us in Him.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you've ever felt this, but I've felt this in my own walk with Jesus in many different times where I feel like I'm praying, but I feel like in my best way I could describe it was like, I have lost connection.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, Wi-Fi connection.

[SPEAKER_00]: I got no bars.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm trying to make a call to heaven, but it's not getting through.

[SPEAKER_00]: Only to realize it's like, well, I'm, it's because I'm in my sin.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm unrepentant, I haven't done anything right and God's like, hey, I can't accept your call right and how in a sense, not to say that he doesn't hear or know, but it's like, we ought to have this moment where we come before God and we come clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is, as Aaron had to be, he had to be washed andointed all these things like he needs to be clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, fully, for us, as Sam, again mentioned, it's like, thankfully for us, we don't have to go through all of what they did because we have the atonement that fulfills all of God's laws, all of his requirements through Jesus Christ himself.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if you repent of your sins and you confess that Jesus is Lord, you believe in your heart that he rose from the dead,

[SPEAKER_00]: And so when we have Jesus, right, and God wants to hear our prayers, I was thinking a lot about this because, I mean, there's a lot of people, I mean, maybe many of you even grew up in the Catholic church and I don't mean anything bad about it, but it makes a lot of sense.

[SPEAKER_00]: why they do what they do.

[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's a, they're a new covenant church, but they're operating under the old covenant, which would be all the ways that we see in the temple, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they have a priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then you come to the priest and the priest is the one who would go before God for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And there's all this, and I understand it, biblically speaking, and it makes a lot of sense, but they don't realize that the new covenant, Jesus came to fulfill all of that, so we don't need to go to a man, we go to God himself.

[SPEAKER_00]: thing, but again coming back to prayer.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, that was a little tangent, huh?

[SPEAKER_00]: But prayer, God wants to hear your prayers.

[SPEAKER_00]: Anything in everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: Something like, no, I've done too much, or he doesn't care, it's not that big of a deal.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, he's your heavenly father.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I know I'm a father, I have three kids and I'm not perfect by any means, but I want to hear my kids and I want to hear their heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I mean, we're at this age, the stage, where I mean, I kids are 9, 7 and 4, and they're all in different seasons of life, and they're growing up, and they're going through a lot of emotions, thoughts, and different stuff.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to understand, as a father, like, what's going on?

[SPEAKER_00]: And I can see sometimes, they don't want to tell me because it's like, oh, it doesn't matter.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, no, but it does.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to know,

[SPEAKER_00]: your heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to know your life.

[SPEAKER_00]: I want to know what's going on that I could help that I could at the very least pray for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think, I mean, I'm a poor example of a father compared to our heavenly father.

[SPEAKER_00]: And just think he's perfect.

[SPEAKER_00]: He knows everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he desires to know you, desires to know me.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's no prayer that we can't come before God and say, God, I'm dealing with this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Could you help me out?

[SPEAKER_00]: And I just want you to know that.

[SPEAKER_00]: That God wants

[SPEAKER_00]: And that he's done the things necessary for our sin to be a tone for so that we can come before God and bring our incense as it were before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: So prayer would go up day and night.

[SPEAKER_00]: The incense would go up.

[SPEAKER_00]: There was one commentary I read that

[SPEAKER_00]: that said it's not so much about prayer as it is about in this guy titled The Cloud Making Machine, this section, which I thought was a little weird by I feel like it's worth noting because almost any time God's presence was there.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when he came to Mount Sinai, there was thunder, there was lightning, there was fire, there was smoke, it was a scene, it was epic.

[SPEAKER_00]: In a sense, this commentator, he said that maybe the incense because it's before the veil before the holy place where God's glory would dwell, he said that this incense that was in a sense, making this smoke screen that would mimic and symbolize Mount Sinai and God's presence coming down.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that's interesting, but I also think there's this powerful imagery where our prayers are the incense coming up before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Another, on verse 10, we see that, um, that, it says Aaron shall make a toement on its horns once a year.

[SPEAKER_00]: So there's the altar of incense, but once a year there needs to be this atonement that would, would touch the altar, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Where blood would be applied to the altar, but the picture of this David Goosek and other pastor commentator he mentions about this, that prayer isn't where atonement is made.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like this picture of the altar of incense.

[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't need to have this sacrifice every single day.

[SPEAKER_00]: And in fact, God said, don't give your sin offering and all these different things.

[SPEAKER_00]: Just the incense offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's all he wanted on that altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: But once a year you'd apply the blood and David Goosex says, because prayer is where atonement is applied and enjoy.

[SPEAKER_00]: Not where atonement is made.

[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that's, I don't know,

[SPEAKER_00]: is where atonement is applied and enjoyed.

[SPEAKER_00]: We can come before God, have a relationship with God because of the atonement through Jesus Christ.

[SPEAKER_00]: Prayer is not where we make atonement.

[SPEAKER_00]: Does that make sense?

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, Hebrews 10, 19 says that we enter by the blood of Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like we have this access that we can come in before God Almighty because of what Jesus has done.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we can enjoy a relationship with Jesus, with our Creator.

[SPEAKER_00]: And prayer is where that's

[SPEAKER_00]: where that happens probably primarily, where our relationship with God is enjoyed.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 11.

[SPEAKER_00]: Since the Lord said to Moses, when you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give a ransom for his life to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: When you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Each one is numbered in the census, or each one who is numbered in the census shall give this half a shoukel according to the shoukel of the sanctuary.

[SPEAKER_00]: The shoukel is 20 Geras.

[SPEAKER_00]: half a shekel as an offering to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone who has numbered in the census from 20 years old and upward shall give the Lord's offering.

[SPEAKER_00]: The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than the half shekel when you give the Lord's offering to make atonement for your lives.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel, and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting that it may bring the people of Israel to remember and before the Lord so as to make atonement for your lives.

[SPEAKER_00]: So this next section takes another little turn.

[SPEAKER_00]: So first he says there's the altar of incense.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's talking about this ransom money, essentially this price that would need to be paid to be essentially redeemed or ransom, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: First he says verse 11 through 12.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says this census needs to happen and there needs to be this ransom money.

[SPEAKER_00]: So that a plague wouldn't come upon the people.

[SPEAKER_00]: which is interesting, but we see this happen later on in Scripture, where there be a plague, and David counts all of his people, you guys familiar with this story?

[SPEAKER_00]: If not, I mean, essentially God's like, you don't count the people.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're my people, trust me, I'm the provider, I am God, and I'll be your God, you'll be my people.

[SPEAKER_00]: But David, for whatever reason, I think this is second Samuel 24, David, for whatever reason he wants

[SPEAKER_00]: and it's not good, essentially, what happens.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the idea here is like, well, if you take this census, there needs to be this ransom that would be paid for the people.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this ransom, it might seem weird, might seem odd here.

[SPEAKER_00]: But the picture of, again, and it points to Jesus that he is our ransom, he's our redemption.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it also tells us when he says the rich and the poor, they give the same amount right.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's no partiality between what's required of God here.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says you shall give half a shekel.

[SPEAKER_00]: And if we take that and apply that to today, what good is God require of us?

[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't care if you're rich or you're poor, the, the, the,

[SPEAKER_00]: The entrance into heaven, or the price, is the same, is that we surrender and return to Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't matter who you are, where you came from.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the ransom money is the same.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so these people, they would collect it.

[SPEAKER_00]: He tells Moses, you're going to collect this.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be this.

[SPEAKER_00]: foundation of the Tabernacle, which we'll see later in Exodus chapter 38, they actually take all of this silver.

Exodus 38 · chapter mention

[SPEAKER_00]: They essentially melted down to make the base the foundation of this Tabernacle and they make some of the rings that would hold the Tabernacle as well and they put the poles through.

[SPEAKER_00]: But this ransom money, it's, again, points to Jesus that Jesus is our redemption.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 17, we're going to keep moving along.

[SPEAKER_00]: He talks about the bronze basin.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 17, the Lord said to Moses, you shall also make a basin of bronze.

[SPEAKER_00]: with its stand of bronze for washing.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall put a between the tent of meeting in the altar and you shall put water in it with which Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands in their feet.

[SPEAKER_00]: When they go into the tent of meeting or when they come near to the altar to minister to burn a food offering to the Lord, they shall wash with the water so that they may not die.

[SPEAKER_00]: They show wash their hands in their feet so that they may not die.

[SPEAKER_00]: It shall be a statute forever to them, even to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so what we see, there's this another piece added to the, the tabernacle in the setting, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: All of this is within the tabernacle of what is going on.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the bronze basin, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's made very obviously to, to wash.

[SPEAKER_00]: Your hands and your feet.

[SPEAKER_00]: God has this standard, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, Aaron and his sons, God already knows who's going to be the first high priest and who's going to be involved in this, which I think is interesting.

[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was super,

[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting Sam mentioned it, right.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says like that Moses is on the mountain while Aaron's down here and God's calling them to be a priest when he's over there doing unpreasely like things.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I just think as you look at it, it's like God's already making a way for Aaron to be a tone for, washed, clean, anointed and holy before he's even called, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron's down there.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, he's like second in command, but he doesn't know what's coming yet.

[SPEAKER_00]: And God's already making this way where it's like, Moses is gonna literally come down the mountain and be like, what are you guys doing?

[SPEAKER_00]: Are you kidding me?

[SPEAKER_00]: But all the time, God already gave Moses the command, this is what you're going to do for Aaron.

[SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be consecrated.

[SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be washed, clean.

[SPEAKER_00]: He needs to be anointed, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Because he's a sinner, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: God's giving him the whole plan, which I think is just pretty amazing, because God knows what's going to happen before we know.

[SPEAKER_00]: And even while we're sinners, God in His all-knowingness, His righteousness,

[SPEAKER_00]: he has a plan and so there's the bronze basin where they would wash, they'd wash their hands right their actions, the things they do, they'd wash their feet a symbol of right their way of living, their path there which Psalm 24.

[SPEAKER_00]: David writes, says, who may ascend your hill, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: He who is clean hands in a pure heart, speaking of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We got to be clean and pure as we come before God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, Aaron's no exception.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, if you're going to come before me, you must be clean and pure.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus says in John 13 he says that the one who's bathed he doesn't need to be washed except for his feet if you remember Right, there's this scene with Peter the disciples.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's the last supper and Jesus is washing their feet and he comes to Peter to wash his feet and Peter says Something to the effect of you're not gonna wash my feet Lord Right, it's like and then he's like no, I have to wash your feet so that you can be clean and then Peter's like well then washed my whole body Then because I mean it's almost this

[SPEAKER_00]: humble brag of Peter will then just watch all of me you know so that can be fully clean and Jesus says I don't need to wash all of you Peter like you're already saved right the hard works has been done But we do need to wash your feet because you're gonna get dirty as you walk through this world And so this same picture where the priest he'd have to come in and he'd have to wash his hands You'd think well aren't you already clean aren't you already set apart having to already done all the things like yes, but still we get go through this world

[SPEAKER_00]: If each and every one of us were honest, we sat down, asked one another, say, hey, is there some things that we can repent of, pray for you that you'd be forgiven?

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we all have things.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at work the other day, you lost your cool.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at home and you're frustrated, right, may you're driving on the road?

[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it may be, like we could go on and on.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like there's things where we've done wrong.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not that you need to be saved again, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Some people think, well, I got to give my life to Jesus every day, like this altar call moment, and not that that's bad.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, salvation is when we receive Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: We repent of our sins.

[SPEAKER_00]: We receive Him into our life salvation.

[SPEAKER_00]: I believe is instantaneously.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we have salvation.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's secured in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

[SPEAKER_00]: is a process.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we struggle with.

[SPEAKER_00]: When you think, well, am I really say, I don't know, I just do too many things.

[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't do the right thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it may be, the lie that you're telling yourself, you're struggling with sanctification, because you want to be holy, you want to be good, but the world keeps tripping me up.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like this process.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we've got to keep chipping away.

[SPEAKER_00]: That would be the fight that Paul describes in his sense.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he says, I fought the good fight.

[SPEAKER_00]: Paul's like, I've been dirt through this, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: You get it, and I mean, Paul went through some things, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: If we're like, man, my life's hard, Paul's like, no, trust me, your life's easy.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, good school read his, it's second, I think, second Corinthians.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's first where we talked about being shipwrecked, and then he's bitten by a snake to top it off, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: The icing on the cake, you're like, if it wasn't enough, I got bitten by a viper too.

[SPEAKER_00]: and Paul had it rough, but he would fight the good fire, he would endure.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's sanctification.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's like we get back up.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we fall down, but we wash our feet.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right?

[SPEAKER_00]: It was symbolically like we wash our feet.

[SPEAKER_00]: We come before Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: My pastor, pastor, Robert Furrow.

[SPEAKER_00]: He probably got this from another pastor, but he'd say, keep short of counts with God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I like that because for me, especially as a baby Christian, like coming back to Jesus, getting started, it's like, I felt like a toddler learning to walk, not even a toddler, a baby learning to walk, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when they're learning to walk, like, they'll take a step and you're all proud of them, but then they fall instantaneously.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was me as a Christian, a baby Christian, like I'm like, oh yeah, I'm walking boom, fall on my face.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like what am I doing?

[SPEAKER_00]: But my pastor, you'd always say, just keep short accounts with God.

[SPEAKER_00]: You blow it, you come before God, God, I'm sorry.

[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't mean to do this right or whatever it is, I'm sorry that I did this or said that.

[SPEAKER_00]: It was a misrepresentation of you to the people around me, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to believe that what John writes, first John 19, if we can fest our sins, he's faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us.

[SPEAKER_00]: of all sins, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the struggle there.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like we fall down, but we come before Jesus with confidence that he's enough, that he's going to wash us clean it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're already saved, but we got to be washed of this filth that we, I don't know, we go through as we go through life, and we come before Jesus, we forget where we repent, he forgives, and we get back up.

[SPEAKER_00]: Solomon, I believe, or one of the guys who wrote in the Proverbs, right, says that the righteous man falls seven times, yet he gets up again.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you're discouraged, because you feel like you fall, that's expected.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's again, you're going through this process of sanctification.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then when you start to question, am I really saved?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, no, it's not a question of salvation.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a question of, are you going to get back up again and keep fighting?

[SPEAKER_00]: And so this basin though, it would represent the priest, they need to be washed, their hands, their feet.

[SPEAKER_00]: Verse 32 or 22.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Lord said to Moses, take the finest spices of liquid, murred, 500 shekels, and of sweet, smelling cinnamon half is much, that is 250 and 250 of aromatic cane and 500 of Casia according to the shekel of the sanctuary and a hint of olive oil.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you shall make of these a sacred and nointing oil blended as by the perfumer.

[SPEAKER_00]: It shall be a holy and nointing oil.

[SPEAKER_00]: With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the arc of the testimony and the tap table and all its utensils and the lamp stand and its utensils and the altar of incense.

[SPEAKER_00]: and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils in the basin and its stand.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall consecrate them that they may be most holy, whatever touches them will become holy.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them that they may serve me as priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And you shall say to the people of Israel, this shall be my holy and noointing oil throughout your generations.

[SPEAKER_00]: It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person and you shall make no other like it in composition.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is holy and it shall be holy to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever compounds any like it or whoever puts any of it on an outsider shall be cut off from his people.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Lord said to Moses, take sweet spices, stacked tea and another one and something else.

[SPEAKER_00]: sweet spices with pure frankincense of each shell there be an equal part and make an incense blended as by the perfume or season with salt, pure and holy.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall beat some of it very small and put

[SPEAKER_00]: part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting where I shall meet with you.

[SPEAKER_00]: It shall be most holy for you and the incense that you shall make according to its composition.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall not make for yourselves.

[SPEAKER_00]: It shall be for you holy to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his own people.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so in this section, again, it's another part of it, but just imagine God's given him kind of instructions.

[SPEAKER_00]: Make the tabernacle and all the things there.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got the altar.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got the table.

[SPEAKER_00]: You got the priestly garments, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: He talks about now.

[SPEAKER_00]: As we've seen, he makes the altar of incense, and now he's talking about the anointing oil.

[SPEAKER_00]: So it's almost like once you have all of these pieces, now it's time to anoint them and consecrate them.

[SPEAKER_00]: Consecret would be to set apart or to make holy.

[SPEAKER_00]: This God says in this oil, oil throughout the Scriptures is a symbol of, guys want to take a guess.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you know, I'm sure anybody, the Holy Spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: the Holy Spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: There you go, right down next time.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, oil would be this representation of the Holy Spirit, a symbol of it.

[SPEAKER_00]: They have a music again.

[SPEAKER_00]: He talks about this, which is interesting, because God has these clear, defined boundaries where it's like, this is what it's for.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall anoint these utensils and also the people Aaron and his sons.

[SPEAKER_00]: But he says you're not to use this on an ordinary person or for ordinary use.

[SPEAKER_00]: They have a music says that the Holy Spirit is not poured out to enhance our flesh.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's important to note, for me, when I was reading through his commentary, that just, I was like, that is good.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because too many times, and I've seen this, I was a young adult pastor, the college pastor for 60 years, and you know you have 18 to 28-year-olds somewhere in that range.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes younger, sometimes a little bit older, but they're figuring life out, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: When you're 18, 19, you think like you're an adult, and you're like, oh, yeah, I'm an adult.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a man now.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then as you get older, like, I was so stupid and foolish.

[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know anything, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: You want to feel that way?

[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, it was 36-year-old, my man.

[SPEAKER_00]: I was 18, I thought I knew everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I didn't know anything at all.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I had these kids that had come in, and I mean, even people come to church too, but I think a lot of people come to church thinking if I just got Jesus in my life, everything would be fine.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, my life will get better, and as a college pastor, the number one desire that I saw within people, just talk about college, age, men, and women, they want a relationship.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, so if I just got Jesus in my life, maybe I'd find the right person.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not a bad desire, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like Jesus isn't here, the Holy Spirit's not here to enhance our flesh, or to give us our desires.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think as an adult, to, right, 30, 40, 50 years old, some of us, we work in businesses, maybe you're a business owner, and you might think to yourself, well, if I just got God on my side, my business would be blessed, and I'd be profitable in these things.

[SPEAKER_00]: God,

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not that he doesn't care about these things or you and your business, but the Holy Spirit's not here to enhance our fleshly desires or our own pursuits.

[SPEAKER_00]: The Holy Spirit's poured out to glorify Himself, to glorify the point people to Jesus, to bring glory to the Father.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so the O'Neill had these strict limitations on it.

[SPEAKER_00]: And where he says, if anyone's to basically replicate this, right for us, we could be like, well, okay, let's just go get some of these ingredients and let's see what we can make some of this.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll annoy some people, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: You could see that happening, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Especially today, like there'd be someone who might be selling this oil that's gonna heal you because it's up from the scriptures.

[SPEAKER_00]: But God, Jesus says, I mean, Jesus wrote these things.

[SPEAKER_00]: God writes here, he's like, you're going to be cursed if you try to replicate this.

[SPEAKER_00]: We can't replicate or duplicate the Holy Spirit in his work.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, it's not something we can conjure up.

[SPEAKER_00]: If we just try hard enough, we can make the Holy Spirit just show up and do whatever we want.

[SPEAKER_00]: No, the Holy Spirit does what he wants to do in us, and we submit to that, but if we're to try to replicate it,

[SPEAKER_00]: Think of people today.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's ministries that are built off of this, I mean, Holy Spirit movement, very charismatic in nature.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think some of it's real, but I also think some of it's human manipulation.

[SPEAKER_00]: And

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what house to describe it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just some of the legit, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: I believe speaking in tongues is a real thing.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's a real gift, but I think there's people who will try to manufacture things of this sense to look in a peer as if they have the Holy Spirit and you don't, or make themselves look better than they are, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: So they try to mimic the Holy Spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: We shouldn't mimic the Holy Spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: We should be submissive to the Holy Spirit

[SPEAKER_00]: And the 19 oil was to be to set apart the tabernacle, which is where God was going to do well.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, his glory would dwell there.

[SPEAKER_00]: His presence would be there.

[SPEAKER_00]: And to annoy the people who would be the priest that would be doing the work, the mediation between man and God in the temple.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, verse 34, all right, I read that one, but the incense, the basically ingredients, how to make the incense there.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's also another,

[SPEAKER_00]: uh... blend if the god says don't uh... try to duplicate this again not to imitate his doing but uh... verse one of chapter thirty one the lord said to mosa see i've called by name basale the son of uri son of her of the tribe of juta

[SPEAKER_00]: And I've filled him with the Spirit of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is interesting, because the first note inscriptures as far as we can tell of someone being filled with the Spirit of God, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: He says, he's filled this person, Bazell, however you say his name.

[SPEAKER_00]: With the Spirit of God, check out what he has, he has the ability.

[SPEAKER_00]: with ability and intelligence, with knowledge, and all craftsmanship to devise artistic designs to work in gold, silver, and bronze, and cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood to work in every craft.

[SPEAKER_00]: And behold, I have a pointed with him, oh, oh, oh, holyub.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how to say that, the son of another guy that I can't say of the tribe of Dan.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, and I have given to all Abelman ability that they may make all that I have commanded you.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is interesting, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just keep reading this part.

[SPEAKER_00]: It says, the tent of meeting, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: There's things that got to be built, the arc of the testimony, the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furnishings of the tent.

[SPEAKER_00]: The table and its utensils, the pure lampstand with all of its utensils and the altar of incense, and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils in the basin, and its stand, and the finally worked garments, the holy garments for airing and the priest and the garments for his sons,

[SPEAKER_00]: for their service as priest and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense for the holy place.

[SPEAKER_00]: According to all that I have commanded you, they shall do.

[SPEAKER_00]: So there's again, if you just think about it, God's given Moses all these instructions which would be like that sounds great God, but who's going to do this?

[SPEAKER_00]: How are we going to do this?

[SPEAKER_00]: How are we going to make this possible?

[SPEAKER_00]: Where I and God tells Him very literally, I'm going to fill these individuals with my spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is a supernatural event happening.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think this is what I love about this.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's in such a natural way.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like with craftsmanship, see that there, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like if you're reading the ESV as mine, as he says that he's going to fill them with the ability with intelligence, with knowledge, and all craftsmanship to be able to do all of these different designs.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's,

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, it's uh, I was talking with my daughter on the way to church about this because it just reminds me of her because she's very artistic and creative and she likes to draw on paint and create and I just like it's a gift that God has given you.

[SPEAKER_00]: To be able to create right some of you are probably very creative and I just think it's Interesting and another interesting thing if this is the first spirit filled at least the first mention of Someone being filled with the spirit of God in the scriptures He fills him with the spirit not to go preach not to prophesy But to design to build and to create to craft

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, his, he fills him with the spirit to be a craftsman unto God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Paul writes to the Church of Colosse and Colossians 3, 23, says, whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord.

[SPEAKER_00]: Something for us to think about and consider today is that your craftsmanship, like how you work, is worship unto God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Your creativity is worship.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, your work can be, and I think should be Spirit filled.

[SPEAKER_00]: Your gifted, on-purpose, for-purpose, your gift, your skill set, whatever it may be.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not random.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's by God's intelligent design that he's given it to.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he's asking, I think, for us to take it and use it in service of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is a powerful example of that.

[SPEAKER_00]: Last little chunk here, verse 12 through 18,

[SPEAKER_00]: says, in the Lord said to Moses, you are to speak to the people of Israel and say, above all, you shall keep my Sabbaths.

[SPEAKER_00]: For this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you.

[SPEAKER_00]: You shall keep the Sabbath because it is holy for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death.

[SPEAKER_00]: Think about that.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's how serious God was about the Sabbath.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you didn't take your Sabbath day,

[SPEAKER_00]: uh... you were to be put to death he says whoever does any work on it that soul shall be cut off from among his people six days shall work be done but the seven days of Sabbath of solemn rest holy to the lord whoever does any work on the Sabbath they shall be put to death he says it again right it's that important

[SPEAKER_00]: verse 16, therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations as a covenant forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

[SPEAKER_00]: And he gave to Moses when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone written with the finger of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, so this is where we'll wrap it up, but just think this is also where God is wrapping up what he's given to Moses.

[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, Moses is up there for 40 days, I don't know if you remember that, but he's up there for 40 days, meeting with God there.

[SPEAKER_00]: The people are down there, we'll see next week, what they're up to, nothing good again, they're worshiping false gods, but Moses is up there for 40 days, getting all of this from God, it'd be amazing miraculous, but it's a lot of instructions.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, hey, you're going to make this tabernacle because I desire to dwell with my people and you need to make it very specifically with these specific things, but at the end of it all, he says, don't forget to rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's just an important reminder to us.

[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's many people out there.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's Sabbath terrients who believe that you have to take, like Saturday is the only day that you can have as a Sabbath day.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I believe New Testament tells us that Paul says that he says, don't let anyone pass judgment on you because of a Sabbath day or a festival.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you decide to take it, but I do think the principle still remains that you should have a Sabbath day.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we could even argue, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you, like, but there's too much to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Think about Moses.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, he just told me to go get all of these ingredients, all of this material, and build him a tabernacle.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, you know what I mean?

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, out here in the wilderness, if you're like, hey, Moses, do you feel like you're overwhelmed and have a lot to do?

[SPEAKER_00]: He'd probably like, yeah.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know where we're going to start.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how long this process is going to take, but God told him so specifically, but you still got a rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: six days you can work on the seventh day you got to take it off.

[SPEAKER_00]: This would also be an indicator and he says this is like it's to keep it holy but it's to set his people apart.

[SPEAKER_00]: It just came out of Egypt not long ago and I'd be willing to bet in Egypt as slaves they probably didn't have any days off.

[SPEAKER_00]: All but it's Sunday, fairs like, what's Sunday?

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care, for him, it's like, get to work.

[SPEAKER_00]: My slaves would be no day off, but this is to separate them, set them apart from anybody else.

[SPEAKER_00]: The world out there today is not so different.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can go out there, find a job that you can work every single day, 24 hours, 365 days, if you want.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's interesting sometimes.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's people who want jobs, said there's not very many jobs.

[SPEAKER_00]: They can't find one.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I've found a lot of jobs over the last five, six years, and they're not the greatest jobs in the world.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's like, we've got to work.

[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the world tells you, like, you've got to work more harder, longer, so you can achieve be successful, build up all this wealth and whatever.

[SPEAKER_00]: But don't forget, God says, you need rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And Jesus says it's not that the Sabbath was made to be this thing where so much that it's a religious ritual, but Jesus, the Sabbath was made for you and me.

[SPEAKER_00]: Because God knows that you and me, we need this data reset to recalibrate our hearts, our minds, upon God and say, God, everything's gonna be okay.

[SPEAKER_00]: You're my provider.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need to stress and worry, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: There's people, they'll work all day every day.

[SPEAKER_00]: I work at UPS and there's drivers.

[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, God bless them, but like, even this guy yesterday's like, they're very well incentivized.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'll say the least.

[SPEAKER_00]: They make a lot of money and then after eight hours in a day they make over time on the day after 40 hours in a week They make over time.

[SPEAKER_00]: They're over times double times.

[SPEAKER_00]: So say they're making $30 an hour double times 60 dollars That's very enticing isn't it?

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but it's like at what point are you gonna say like hey enough to enough?

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need to do this, but I see guys there's like you live here do like do you ever go home?

[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm here a lot, but you're here like every day all the time.

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand, but it's like, when is enough going to be enough?

[SPEAKER_00]: The world's going to tell you go out there, make money, be successful in that regard.

[SPEAKER_00]: By one, I encourage you, remind you, don't forget about God.

[SPEAKER_00]: God is your provider.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who gives you opportunities.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who gives you the energy to do anything in the first place.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's very important at some point in your week whether it's Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's just have a day that works for you, where you have a day off, where you can say, God, I'm just not gonna worry.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I don't need to worry today.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, your problems probably aren't going to be fixed in a day anyways, like by going into work a little bit extra, like, what's it going to change?

[SPEAKER_00]: Take a day off to honor God.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's just so important because God just gave them all these things to build and says, but last but not least, Moses, don't forget the Sabbath day.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's for your rest, it's for your well-being, right, it's because we need it.

[SPEAKER_00]: The New Testament Hebrews tells us for us today under the new covenant.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is our rest, our Sabbath, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: In Jesus, we can rest from our work.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you just think about it, if we can truly fully surrender unto God unto Jesus, and say, God, whatever you want.

[SPEAKER_00]: I always say, God, you're Jehovah Jairo, you're God provider, you're my protector, you're all the things that I need.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I recognize that if we could just come before God, we can literally just rest and God, you know everything, you've seen it all like before hand, you know it's gonna happen.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when we can understand and just rest in that God's got under control, we can rest from our work, understand like it's not that important.

[SPEAKER_00]: If you've ever been in ministry, if you ever want to get in ministry, there's a danger in it.

[SPEAKER_00]: Pastor that I kind of, what I interned under when I first became a pastor, he told me once Nick, there's no shortage of ministry, and he's trying to tell me and like help me understand that like you will burn yourself out if you take every opportunity.

[SPEAKER_00]: Like you still need, even as a minister, you still need a Sabbath that you still need rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can't do it all.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, in Jesus, we can find our rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: Or we can say, I'm not gonna solve it all.

[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna figure it all out, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: I can just rest, say God, you are enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: In Jesus, we can stop.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we can just say, ah, this breath.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and we just take a moment before God, a rest in God and understand the rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: I've said this before, it's not laziness.

[SPEAKER_00]: Until it is, like, understands, like, there's, hey, I'm taking a Sabbath day.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, you're taking a Sabbath year, my friend.

[SPEAKER_00]: Or you, I don't know, I'm just saying like, rest is necessary, but then there's also a line.

[SPEAKER_00]: Go read through some of the Proverbs where he talks about the lazy person, the slothful person who turns upon their bed and who's so lazy, they can't even lift a fork or spoon to their mouth to feed themselves, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: There's a, a definitely a balance, but rest is not laziness.

[SPEAKER_00]: Sabbath is not laziness.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's worship, it's a declaration that God, you are God, I depend on you, I'm not God.

[SPEAKER_00]: You know best.

[SPEAKER_00]: In the last little bit here, verse 18, so he wraps this up, just imagine right, the whole, the original sermon on the Mount, I suppose you could say for Moses, God giving Moses all these things.

[SPEAKER_00]: He says, and he gave to Moses when he had finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone written with the finger of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: So like the,

[SPEAKER_00]: final moment of this.

[SPEAKER_00]: Before Moses is going to go head down the mountain, tell the people what he saw, what he heard, hey man, we got a lot of work to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: Last but not least, he got says you need to rest and just so you don't forget I'm going to write it on stone.

[SPEAKER_00]: Right, it's not like we can't.

[SPEAKER_00]: You can't manipulate this.

[SPEAKER_00]: While I'm just going to erase what I don't like, blood it out, it's like now it's written on stone with the finger of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: And these would be the tablets they'd place into the ark of the covenant or ark of the testimony with the words of God.

[SPEAKER_00]: We believe, right, the Ten Commandments on there.

[SPEAKER_00]: But they'd be placed these inside the ark.

[SPEAKER_00]: And these tablets of the testimonies

[SPEAKER_00]: of the covenant, there's the law and God writes it on stone so they wouldn't forget.

[SPEAKER_00]: And this, too, believe it or not, points to Jesus, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the tablets of stone, God writes his word on the stone, the new testament,

[SPEAKER_00]: says that he's going to pour his spirit out upon all flesh.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, that He's going to give us new hearts, new desires.

[SPEAKER_00]: And again, He says He's going to write His law on our hearts.

[SPEAKER_00]: And when we receive Jesus into our lives, I believe there's a moment.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the shift and it's part of the sanctification process, too.

[SPEAKER_00]: But it's where God writes His law on our hearts, where things we used to do that.

[SPEAKER_00]: We were fine with before all of a sudden, we can't do them anymore.

[SPEAKER_00]: When you do your guilty, you feel ashamed.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's because God's law has been written on to your heart.

[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'll send you know.

[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't okay, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: You understand what God desires and enclosing to kind of wrap it up, tie it together, there's a lot going on here, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: But to recap the incense, be some prayers before God, symbolizes that we have access before God for us, right, access through Jesus, access through the Holy Spirit that we can come before God, boldly before His throne.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, there's the ransom money that would be paid.

[SPEAKER_00]: It speaks of us being redeemed.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Jesus is our redeemer.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the basin, the bronze basin where they'd wash.

[SPEAKER_00]: It speaks of us being cleansed, or we need to be cleansed.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the oil that speaks of us that we need to be anointed, set apart.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the incense again where it describes it.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not to be replicated or duplicated or the oil, but it's a work of the spirit.

[SPEAKER_00]: There's the craftsmen tells us that our work matters, our gifting, how God's gifted us, it matters.

[SPEAKER_00]: And there's the Sabbath day tells us that we need to learn to rest, and what God has done, who he is, and there's the tablets there at the end that tells us that his word stands forever.

[SPEAKER_00]: All right, everything in Exodus 30, 31, it speaks of Jesus.

[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus is the high priest.

[SPEAKER_00]: He bears our name.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the sacrifice who grants us access.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who washes us.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who annoy us.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who empowers you to do the work he wants you to do.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's the one who gives you rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: And so today in closing, don't rest in your accomplishments or your work or you thinking you're enough rest in Jesus and his work because it is enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: And I understand this, you can take rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: This is me, if you'll take this for as a word from your pastor, like me giving you permission to take some rest.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you, you need that.

[SPEAKER_00]: You need to hear that, because you think that you need to keep working.

[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like in working, you think that you're doing something, but we forget about God and just know God's enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: He's got it all together.

[SPEAKER_00]: Take a day, time, whatever it is.

[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this week you just try to figure that out.

[SPEAKER_00]: Well, where do I take a day off?

[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it looks like for you.

[SPEAKER_00]: but find some time.

[SPEAKER_00]: And on that day, take time with God, pray, right?

[SPEAKER_00]: Put on some worship music, read through some scripture.

[SPEAKER_00]: Remind yourself of his goodness.

[SPEAKER_00]: Look around at the blessings that he's giving you.

[SPEAKER_00]: You might think, well, I don't have what I need, but then when you just take a day to think, like, even Thanksgiving, we just came out of Thanksgiving.

[SPEAKER_00]: A day to think of what do you have?

[SPEAKER_00]: Not a day to be sad about all, but I don't have this.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's the next day, Black Friday, you know, just kidding.

[SPEAKER_00]: And that Satan works in crafty ways, doesn't he?

[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be thankful today, but hey, I'll see all these sales tomorrow.

[SPEAKER_00]: And then we're all said, and we're immediately not grateful and we are envious.

[SPEAKER_00]: But learn to rest in Jesus, who he is, what he's done.

[SPEAKER_00]: I think as you learn that, as you take time to rest, I think you'll find a lot of peace for one.

[SPEAKER_00]: Some of you who are stressed out, but I think you also find a lot of joy.

[SPEAKER_00]: So with that said, we're going to pray.

[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into communion and some worship.

[SPEAKER_00]: So Father, we just come before you.

[SPEAKER_00]: And we thank you for your word that you've

[SPEAKER_00]: preserved it for us to rein study today and there's a lot going on there and I pray Lord that you've revealed to each of us some things that we need to work on, some things that we can take home and apply to our lives.

[SPEAKER_00]: I even know for myself Lord Rest is something that's you speak to me about often and I pray Lord that you just help us to rest in your sovereignty,

[SPEAKER_00]: You got it all figured out.

[SPEAKER_00]: Probably we could surrender unto you, Lord, and just know that you are enough.

[SPEAKER_00]: Things that were worried about, stressed about, spending extra time about, or staying up, or not sleeping, I don't know, Lord, I just pray that we would just learn to not worry.

[SPEAKER_00]: Or as you say, don't worry about tomorrow, just take care of today, and I pray today, Lord, we just turn to you.

[SPEAKER_00]: I pray that tomorrow, Lord, we turn to you and that we just learned to make that a rhythm of our life.

[SPEAKER_00]: As the incense would go up and be a symbol of prayer, I pray, Lord, that we learn to pray through every season, every day of our lives Lord, about anything and everything.

[SPEAKER_00]: That in that Lord, that we would be filled with your Holy Spirit, that you'd write your word on our hearts.

[SPEAKER_00]: that you would lead us, guide us, that you'd anoint us, that's you would gift us to be able to go out into the world and use our craftsmanship and our skills to glorify you or in that ultimately that you would just have your way in us and so that we could know you and so that others could as well.

[SPEAKER_00]: So we thank you for this in Jesus' name.

[SPEAKER_00]: We pray.
