  1. The title of this morning's message is God is in control.

  2. You're probably thinking, Oh well, I can't see that.

  3. Well, actually you will. God is in control.

  4. Daniel chapter 2, we find God's word very powerful.

    Daniel 2 chapter mention

  5. We're in Daniel and for the first six chapters we will learn

  6. from Daniel and from three of Daniel's friends how to live for

  7. God in a fallen sinful world. Our Babylon, our Babylon.

  8. You know, it's nice to find a Christian.

  9. You, I don't know if you've ever travelled and you travel and you

  10. can find someone who is a Christian, You go, oh, I'm a

  11. Christian and straightaway you, you're able to communicate, talk

  12. and, and, but it's hard to find another believer, isn't it?

  13. I look at the AFL. I'm with the Fremantle Football

  14. Club as a chaplain, have been since about 2000 and we've had

  15. one, one player that I remember 2, two players become Christians

  16. in that period of time and the through the AFL there's a lack

  17. of Christians as one who play Ollie, Ollie Dempsey I think his

  18. name is, he plays for Geelong. He's a devout believer, a solid

  19. follower of Christ, but we just lack role models, athletes.

  20. Whereas in America, you know, you get a quarterback, the

  21. champion quarterbacks, Mahones or whatever they call or someone

  22. else and they'll just tell you straight out.

  23. First thing I want to say, I want to thank the Lord Jesus

  24. Christ. And we, we see that.

  25. And so we're, we're really behind the 8 ball in, in, in

  26. our, in our land as far as can I see a Christian, can I see, will

  27. the Christians stand up? Because we don't see any

  28. standing up. Well, we're going to learn how

  29. to stand up. God wants us to stand up.

  30. And so we find out in the first six chapters just how to do

  31. that. In chapter 1, we learned how God

  32. was faithful to Daniel and his three friends, how to live

  33. faithful to the Lord even under great pressure.

  34. They were told you got to eat this, you got to drink.

  35. This is what you got to do. This is the God you got to

  36. worship. And they went, hang on.

  37. No, no, wait, wait, wait, wait. They did it politely and they

  38. said we'll eat what the food that we eat back back home, the

  39. proper food. We're not going to eat food

  40. that's been offered to idols. We're not going to drink this

  41. and do that. And after 10 days, they were the

  42. they were the most graciously good looking, healthy looking of

  43. of all the captives that have been taken into Babylon in

  44. chapter 2. We're going to see, We saw how

  45. God taught four young Hebrews that God is in control because

  46. Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and he called all the wise men,

  47. supposed wise men that came in, all the con men said, tell me my

  48. dream and then tell me the interpretation.

  49. They said that's too hard. And he said, no, that's what you

  50. got to do, otherwise you'll die. Daniel hears about that, goes

  51. home to the house where his three other young Hebrew friends

  52. are, and they seek the Lord and they pray and God gives him the

  53. dream and the interpretation. And we're going to see that and

  54. we're going to see how that unfails.

  55. And Daniel goes back to Nebuchadnezzar, says, here's the

  56. dream and here's the interpretation.

  57. Nebuchadnezzar's, wow, this is amazing.

  58. Only God could do that. And so in chapter 3 now we're

  59. going to see how to stand for God when everyone else false.

  60. Let's read the interpretation of the dream chapter 2 verse 36 on

  61. follow along with me in your Bible.

  62. This is the dream. Now we'll tell you the

  63. interpretation of it before the king you were king because

  64. Daniel told him there was a a great image.

  65. Sorry, back in the first couple of verses 31 on there was this

  66. image, huge image in the dream. The head was gold, the chest and

  67. arms with silver. The stomach and thighs were were

  68. bronze and the feet and and the toes were clay and iron, iron.

  69. And then the toes were clay and iron.

  70. And Daniel said, this is the great image.

  71. This is the image that you saw. And the king says, yeah, that's

  72. what I saw. And he says, well, this image

  73. what what's going to happen is at the end, it's going to become

  74. like chaff because these are going to be all the empires of

  75. the world. And a great stone will come, a

  76. stone that's not cut out of a mountain and like a great

  77. mountain. And and it will this, this, this

  78. coming thing that will wipe out all these other empires.

  79. That image that that stone and that empire will fool the earth

  80. forever and ever and ever. So let's pick up the

  81. interpretation. This, this, this is the dream.

  82. Now I will tell you the interpretation of it.

  83. You, O King, our King of kings. For the God of heaven has given

  84. you a Kingdom. Notice God's given

  85. Nebuchadnezzar the power. He's given him the Kingdom for

  86. purpose. Wherever the children of men

  87. dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the

  88. heaven, he has given them into your hand.

  89. He has made you ruler over them. You are his head of gold.

  90. OK, but after you shall arise another Kingdom inferior, and

  91. it's going to go down, gold, silver, bronze, iron.

  92. But after you shall arise another Kingdom inferior to

  93. yours, then another 1/3 Kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over

  94. the earth. And a fourth Kingdom shall be as

  95. strong as iron in as much as iron breaks in pieces and

  96. shatters everything. And like iron that crushes, that

  97. Kingdom will break in pieces and crush all others.

  98. Also. You saw the feet and the toes

  99. partly of Potter's clay and partly of iron.

  100. That's Speaking of a future Kingdom, a Kingdom where in the

  101. time that we're now living, the Kingdom shall be divided, yet

  102. the strength of the iron shall be in it.

  103. Just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay, and as the

  104. toes of the feet were partly of iron, partly of clay, so the

  105. Kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragment or fragile.

  106. As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay.

  107. They all mingle with the seed of men, but they will not adhere to

  108. one another. Just as iron does not mix with

  109. clay. And in the days of these kings,

  110. so in the, in the final king, which is going to be the New

  111. World Empire, it's currently the United Nations or the EU

  112. European Union started in 1950 and, and called themselves the

  113. the big 10, even though there wasn't 10 at the time.

  114. And now there's more than 10, but it's going to end up it's

  115. 10. And that will be the European

  116. Union, of which the Antichrist, who will come after the church

  117. is raptured. And he'll head this, this union,

  118. the toes and the clay. And then in that time, as the

  119. Antichrist is ruling during the Tribulation period, God of

  120. heaven will set up a Kingdom which shall never be destroyed.

  121. Jesus Christ will return. He'll wipe out the Antichrist.

  122. The the rule and reign of men governing the world will be

  123. over. The Kingdom shall not be left to

  124. other people. It shall break in pieces and

  125. consume all these kingdoms and it shall stand forever.

  126. This is the Millennium, the thousand year reign, beginning

  127. with Christ at the end of the seven year tribulation, the

  128. second coming of Jesus. In as much as you saw that the

  129. stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, the

  130. stone is Christ. Then it broke in pieces.

  131. The iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold.

  132. The great God has made known to the king.

  133. What will come to pass? King, this is what's happening.

  134. You're the you're the gold empire now you're Babylon.

  135. And he doesn't even know about the Medes and the Persians and

  136. and the Grecians and who had to come and the Romans, They're not

  137. even on the on the scene yet. And God lays out this dream to

  138. Nebuchadnezzar of the future world empires yet become

  139. amazing. That's why people say, well,

  140. Daniel cannot have written this. It's too prescriptive.

  141. It's too detailed. How could this happen when all

  142. these kingdoms weren't even around?

  143. Well, it's the word of God because Daniel says the dream is

  144. certain and its interpretation is sure.

  145. You can bank on it. And King Nebuchadnezzar fell on

  146. his face prostate before Daniel and went, wow man, this is

  147. awesome. Truly.

  148. Your God is the God of gods, Lord of kings, revealer of

  149. secrets. And he said Shadrach, Meshach

  150. and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon.

  151. Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

  152. That means Daniel was given a higher order.

  153. He was like a magistrate over the rule of Babylon.

  154. So we pick up. So the dream has been revealed

  155. and Daniel gives the interpretation.

  156. So the entire head of gold, the Kingdom of Babylon or the empire

  157. of Babylon, of which Nebuchadnezzar was the first and

  158. only ruler since to have been the only real world dictator, he

  159. was in charge of the whole world and he ruled or sorry, Babylon

  160. ruled, but only for about 87 years.

  161. Head of gold, the chest and arms of of silver.

  162. They were the Medes and the Persians.

  163. That's why this too, the Medes and the Persians combined and

  164. they conquered the Babylonians in 539 BC.

  165. And the valley and the thighs of bronze, The Greeks under

  166. Alexander the Great. And they conquered the Medes and

  167. the Persians in 334 to 330 BC. And who conquered the Greeks?

  168. Romans iron, Roman Empire conquered the Greeks in 63 BC.

  169. Jesus said in Matthew chapter 21.

    Matthew 21 chapter mention

  170. Did you never read in the Scriptures the stone which the

  171. builders rejected? The stone, the same has become

  172. the head of the corner. This is the Lord's doing, and it

  173. is marvellous in our eyes. Jesus went on to say, therefore

  174. I sound to you, the Kingdom of God shall be taken from you,

  175. given to a nation, bring forth the fruits thereof.

  176. Whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken, but on

  177. whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

  178. The stone is none other than the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

  179. The stone shall become a mountain.

  180. Jesus, when he returns at the second coming, will set up his

  181. millennial reign, and he will rule and reign from Jerusalem

  182. for 1000 years, then a new heaven and a new earth.

  183. After the great White Throne judgement, when all the unsaved

  184. are resurrected, all those who have died without Christ are

  185. resurrected, will be judged, cast into the Lake of fire, and

  186. then a new heaven and a new earth.

  187. Revelation 21 And Christ will rule, and we will rule and reign

  188. with him during that time, and there'll be no end to that, to

  189. the Kingdom. The image that Nebuchadnezzar

  190. saw, this statue, we see Heaven's viewpoint had a gold

  191. chest and arms of silver stomach, thighs, bronze legs,

  192. iron feet, iron clay toes, etcetera.

  193. That's God's view. This is what's going to happen.

  194. But Nebuchadnezzar had a different viewpoint and we're

  195. going to see a difference because in chapter 3,

  196. Nebuchadnezzar, the king verse one made an image of gold, all

  197. gold, 60 cubits and it was width was 6 cubits, cubit was between

  198. 18 for those in the old imperial, 18 to 2021 inches.

  199. It was the measurement from the elbow to the tip of the finger.

  200. So Nebuchadnezzar, he says, you know what, I'll build an image.

  201. It's going to be all gold, all gold.

  202. The king did not build the image according to the dream.

  203. Why did he do it his way? Because he said my empire.

  204. I run the show. I'm the most powerful man on the

  205. earth. I'm the most powerful king.

  206. What empire is never going to run out?

  207. I'm always going to rule. It's always going to be Babylon.

  208. No one will defeat us. In Proverbs 14, verse 12, it's

    Proverbs 14:12

  209. one of my favourite proverbs, it says there is a way that seems

  210. right to a man. I've got an idea.

  211. But it's end is the way of death.

  212. Why shouldn't Babylon continue in its power?

  213. Nebuchadnezzar thinking I'm the most powerful man on the earth,

  214. biggest army. I rule and reign, I do what I

  215. like, no one tells me what to do.

  216. Why shouldn't whole image be of gold?

  217. Why didn't Nebuchadnezzar go and build this image and change what

  218. he had dreamed? We're not told, but actually

  219. chapter 3 is some 18 to 23 years later after the dream.

  220. So it's kind of like not overnight.

  221. He wakes up and says this is what I'm going to do.

  222. It's 18 to 23 years after Daniel has given him the dream and the

  223. interpretation and he builds this image on the plain of

  224. Juror. 20 odd years for Nebuchadnezzar to muse to, to

  225. plan against the change his mind on what should happen.

  226. And as he's gone on, he's began to think he's got proud.

  227. He's like, I know what I'm going to do.

  228. This is what I'm going to do. Oh God says, but this is what

  229. I'm going to do. Did he fear the downfall of his

  230. empire and therefore try to strengthen his position?

  231. Well, I'll sort this out. Isn't that what we say in

  232. Australia? I'll sort it out, I'll fix this.

  233. I used to do that and it always broke.

  234. It always got worse. You know when you go, I'll fix

  235. this, I'll sort this out. Don't.

  236. Your first reaction is the worst reaction.

  237. It's usually the flesh reaction. It's like when you write emails.

  238. Don't write emails. You ever write an email, say oh

  239. I'll send this away, leave it and read it again the next day

  240. and burn it? Did Nebuchadnezzar begin to

  241. doubt Daniel's prophetic interpretation of the future

  242. events revealed by God? Well, he heard them, he said,

  243. But I'm not going to pay attention to that.

  244. You can pay. You can do the same about the

  245. things of the Book of Revelation.

  246. Well, is the church going to be raptured?

  247. Is is there going to be a tribulation?

  248. I don't believe any of that man. If I said to my dad, he's been

  249. passed away for a number of years now, Dad, there will come

  250. a day that on Friday you won't get paid in cash.

  251. He said, Oh my dead body. I want my pounds, shillings and

  252. pence in my hands on Friday. There's no way I'm going to get

  253. this a thing going somewhere that I can't identify how we've

  254. changed. So what's the lesson?

  255. Well, many Christians. The first lesson is many

  256. Christians have the same thought pattern as Nebuchadnezzar today.

  257. You see, none of us are immune from the temptation to cling

  258. tenaciously to our little earthly possessions unless we've

  259. truly seen them as they really are.

  260. Unless God has brought you to a place where they are now of

  261. little value. I tell you when all the times

  262. that I visited Murdoch Hospice or or intensive care units, I

  263. never had anyone talk to me about cars, boats, houses, never

  264. we we never discussed bank books.

  265. How I, you know, miss work. But the trouble is for you and

  266. I, and so many of us sitting here today, many of you are, are

  267. under the control of idols. The bank tells you what to do.

  268. Your house mortgage tells you what to do, your job, the way

  269. you structure it, the things that you're involved in.

  270. You're so choked up with the affairs of the world, you don't

  271. control anything. Your week is laid out by

  272. everybody else. Why does it take for a doctor to

  273. tell us we've got three months to live before we finally

  274. realise what truly are the most valuable things in the world to

  275. us? Why does it have to come to

  276. that? Don't let it in your life come

  277. to that. Many Christians, sadly, have

  278. lost sight of the prize at the end of the race and many have

  279. veered off course into the ways of the world.

  280. Demas did. He left Paul.

  281. They have lost sight of the brevity of life.

  282. Because I tell you, my heart beats.

  283. Your heart beats today. It's a red involuntary muscle.

  284. Your lungs are moving. You have no control over them.

  285. There's someone else who holds your very breath in his hands.

  286. We'll get to that in chapter 5. And tomorrow, 40 people who are

  287. living today in WA won't be living tomorrow.

  288. They'll die between now and tomorrow.

  289. Not planned, not organised, just didn't wake up.

  290. Popped in a car, never came back.

  291. The brevity of life. Life is it's a fragile many

  292. churchgoers hold to their earthly possessions with a a

  293. tight fist, falsely, falsely imagining in a falsetto, falsely

  294. imagining that we shall have them forever.

  295. You will remember that point forever now, won't you?

  296. That'll be the only thing you'll remember this morning.

  297. It was funny. Yeah, I can't.

  298. I know what he said for 45 minutes, but I remember when his

  299. voice went up. I remember that.

  300. Yeah. Good on you.

  301. Jesus said in Matthew 6 verse 19.

    Matthew 6:19

  302. Hear what Jesus says, not what I say.

  303. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth

  304. and rust destroy, where thieves break in and steal, but lay up

  305. for yourselves treasures in heaven when neither moth nor

  306. rust destroys, where thieves do not break in and steal.

  307. Jesus words, you know, it's usually in the time of of when

  308. we're at our healthiest, when we're at our strongest, when our

  309. finances are doing so well that we forget God.

  310. That's Australia in a nutshell. We're so blessed in this nation,

  311. we're so wealthy in this nation, we're in the top 3% of the

  312. wealthiest people in the world, and we've forgotten all about

  313. God completely. Looking back to Daniels time

  314. from here in 2025, with perfect hindsight, who was right?

  315. Nebuchadnezzar or God battle on last.

  316. So Daniel chapter 3 verse 1, he builds this image in today's

    Daniel 3:1

  317. language it's 27.432 metres high.

  318. Now this building is, I think it's 9 metres, so it's 27 metres

  319. high, it's 2.7 metres wide. There you go.

  320. It's the same Chrysler Redeemer statue is 30 metres, the Tower

  321. of London, 27 metres, there you go.

  322. Gives an idea how big it is. It weighed some 3730 kilos.

  323. It was a cost. Some estimate the cost depending

  324. on if it was solid gold or stone or wood overlay with gold, some

  325. $200 billion. Or if you're the wealthiest man

  326. in the world, that's nothing. It's not your money.

  327. Just get money, gold, wherever. King Nebuchadnezzar made an

  328. image of gold, 60 cubits high, 6 cubits wide.

  329. Set it up on the plain of Jura in the province of Babylon.

  330. Archaeologists have found the pedestal on which the the image

  331. sits. He builds it on a plane.

  332. Why does he build on a plane? So it's even more imposing a

  333. structure. It's 9 storeys high, 9 stories.

  334. Everyone could not help see this massive image, including three

  335. young Hebrew men. Verse 2.

  336. King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather together the SAT traps.

  337. That's just another term for administrators as well.

  338. Pin pushes the governors, the councillors, the treasurers, the

  339. judges, the magistrates and all the officials of the province to

  340. come to the dedication of the image which King Nebuchadnezzar

  341. had set up. So they, the administrators, the

  342. governors, all of them, again came judges, magistrates, they

  343. gathered for the dedication of the image, and they stood before

  344. the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

  345. Then a herald cried out to you. It is commanded.

  346. So there's no choice in the matter.

  347. O peoples, nations and languages.

  348. So people from all over the world are invited.

  349. This is a gala event that all at the time you hear the sound of

  350. the horn, the flute, the heart, the lion, the sultry in

  351. Symphony. Notice the word Symphony with

  352. all kinds of music. This is a full Symphony

  353. Orchestra. You shall fall down and worship

  354. the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.

  355. And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast

  356. immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace, a brick

  357. kiln, basically. So at that time when all the

  358. people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, so on the

  359. Symphony with all kinds of music, all the people fell down

  360. worship. Now, the dedication of the image

  361. was not political or patriotic. It was religious.

  362. Look at the crowd. It was politicians.

  363. Everyone from Hollywood was there, the who's who.

  364. All the rock stars were there. It's funny how rock stars and

  365. people in Hollywood always tell us about politics.

  366. Paul Hogan, an Australian actor, some of you remember him, said

  367. this about being an actor. I get paid to pretend to be

  368. people and I I really it's just a pet peeve when someone who

  369. makes a movie gets up, you know, Free Palestine, Leonardo Capra,

  370. free Palestine, Madonna, free Palestine.

  371. All they write. I'm leaving this country.

  372. I feel like writing. I'll help pack your bag.

  373. This was a religious gathering. So all the pomp you just it's

  374. just everyone's turning up in their in their camels.

  375. Big limos pulled up, you know, the donkey, 100 donkeys in

  376. front, all getting out. Who you dressed by?

  377. I'm dressed by so and so of Babylon.

  378. I'm wearing this is either jewels from the Nile and all

  379. this. So they're getting out.

  380. One law, one religion for all peoples, the nations and

  381. languages. Notice it's a snapshot of what's

  382. coming with the Antichrist who will set up his image.

  383. And if you don't bow down and worship his image and receive

  384. his mark on your right hand or your forehead, you'll die.

  385. You'll die. The music is important.

  386. Notice this. It's to arouse the emotions or

  387. and also the threat of being thrown into the furnace.

  388. Picture the scene. The Babylonian Philharmonic

  389. Orchestra full kit starts playing.

  390. The Herald cries out down on the knees, the noise.

  391. It's thousands and thousands, hundreds of thousands of people

  392. get down on their knees worshipping the golden image.

  393. What a religious experience. Wow, how powerful can the

  394. influence and emotionally persuade persuasive pulse music

  395. can provide? You know who knows a lot about

  396. music? So if you read he's actually

  397. built, has inbuilt music into him, read of what the Bible says

  398. of what he looks like. He was in charge of music in

  399. heaven. He uses music massively.

  400. It was designed to have you. Oh, wow, bow down the pomp, the

  401. ceremony. You know, we Helen and I went to

  402. Nuremberg. I specifically wanted to go to

  403. Germany to try and understand how such a nation could be the

  404. cause of the Holocaust. How could this happen?

  405. So we went to Nuremberg. They call it Nuremberg.

  406. We went out to the place where Hitler held in Nuremberg.

  407. How? That's why they had the trials

  408. they're numbering how these great events from 1932 to 1938,

  409. The Nuremberg rallies, though the largest scale theatrical

  410. events that you could you could imagine, only those who are

  411. blonde and blue eyed were filmed at the front.

  412. Any true Bavarians who are a bit pudgy and like eating pork and

  413. drinking beer. They had to go over there.

  414. They weren't going to be in the in the filming.

  415. So all the blondes to the front, blue eyes to the front because

  416. they all look like Hitler. As the evening came and the

  417. darkness came, up would go searchlights all the way around

  418. the whole area where hundreds of thousands of people are gathered

  419. like a cathedral wall. It was so powerful that they

  420. built had to build their own powerhouse.

  421. Down the road we saw the powerhouse to run just the

  422. service, the worship service in Nuremberg.

  423. The rallies would last for up to 8 days.

  424. The religious fervour was frenetic and the Fuhrer and I

  425. stood where Hitler stood in the very place would stand there

  426. above all the people, and there he would be worshipped.

  427. You know, sadly, many churches are falling for a religious

  428. persuasion. What do I mean by that?

  429. Music. We got to manage music very

  430. carefully. I thank, I'm so thankful for our

  431. worship team and those who run our worship services here.

  432. They're pastors because there's a danger in in church services

  433. and music and how it's how it operates.

  434. This is swing to to which way you're going to have a song and

  435. it's a hit parade now and and you can have songs and you could

  436. be singing to a a girlfriend or a boyfriend.

  437. That's not the words of the song.

  438. It's such an emotive and so many Christian singers sadly move out

  439. of, I mean many of the black African American singers move

  440. learnt to sing out in church with their heart and soul.

  441. Then they moved out and ended up tragically in the ways of the

  442. world. What does God have pleasure in?

  443. A soul filled experience. Wow, that just wow.

  444. It was just all the music. Wow, or a spiritual experience.

  445. John chapter 4 verse 24. Jesus said to the woman of the

    John 4:24

  446. world, God is spirit and these that worship him must worship

  447. him in spirits truth. Let us remember today that it is

  448. the preaching of the word of God that is actually and essentially

  449. an act of worship. Did you know worship is not just

  450. singing that each as I'm now preaching the word of God.

  451. This is worship. You are worshipping the Lord.

  452. This is worship, AW Tozer writes on this.

  453. He says it is now a common practise in most evangelical

  454. churches to offer the people, especially the young people, a

  455. maximum of entertainment and a minimum of serious instruction.

  456. It is scarcely possible to get anyone to attend a meeting where

  457. the only attraction is God. One can only conclude that God's

  458. professed children are bored with him, for they must be wooed

  459. to meeting with a stick of striped candy in the form of

  460. religious movies, games and refreshments designed to house

  461. the golden calf. The three young figures, as all

  462. the people are bowed down, and the music and the emotion, Oh

  463. wow, and Nebuchadnezzar, how good is this image tell you?

  464. Oh, I know what's going on. And three figures are standing.

  465. You can see them from miles away because everyone else is on

  466. their face. Three figures stand out against

  467. the masses, standing upright together, not bowing down.

  468. They were making the most courageous choice in standing

  469. when all around them was a sea of backs bowed low to the

  470. ground. If you do not worship what the

  471. world worships, you will stand out.

  472. Therefore, verse 8. At that time, Chaldeans came

  473. forward. These are the guys that Daniel

  474. and the three others saved their lives by giving the dream in the

  475. interpretation, because they were being executed.

  476. The guys that were being executed because they're jealous

  477. of what's happened with these other 4 Hebrews came forward and

  478. accused the Jews. We're all Jews, they're in it

  479. again. They spoke and said to King

  480. Nebuchadnezzar, Old king, live forever.

  481. You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the

  482. sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and sultry in Symphony

  483. with all kinds of music shall fall down and worship the golden

  484. image. And whoever does not fall down

  485. and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery

  486. furnace. Yes, there are certain Jews whom

  487. you have said over the affairs. Notice this is where it's

  488. coming, of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach and

  489. Abednego. These men, O king, have not paid

  490. you regard to you. They do not serve your gods or

  491. worship. The gold image which you set up

  492. is a great thing. Isn't it good to have someone

  493. who's not a Christian tell you that you're a Christian by the

  494. way that you're living? You must be a follower of

  495. Christ, because I can see by the way you it's when a non believer

  496. picks you out means it's good. The king on hearing this news

  497. about the three young Hebrew men flies into a rage, takes this as

  498. a personal affront demands then be brought before him so he can

  499. interrogate them himself. You see, we can bow down.

  500. This is could be going on the three of them standing there and

  501. everyone's you know, they could have said we just got to bow

  502. down. I mean, we can just go about our

  503. business. We can still worship God.

  504. They're allowed to worship the God of Israel, but they have to

  505. just bow down and worship the other gods, but they can still

  506. worship their own God. That's what a lot of people do.

  507. They worship all their gods through the week and they bow

  508. down and then they come to church on Sunday.

  509. They could have said we can bow down, we can keep our jobs, we

  510. can live and not get killed, or we can stand or we can stand.

  511. Romans 125 Those who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and

  512. worshipped and served the creature, because all these

  513. people are worshipping an image made by man and God made man,

  514. they won't worship God, they worship an image made by man

  515. It's foolish. The Nebuchadnezzar Enrage and

  516. Fury, verse 13 gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach and

  517. Abednego. So they brought these men before

  518. the king Nebuchadnezzar spoke to them.

  519. Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, you do not serve

  520. my gods or worship the gold image which I've set up.

  521. Now notice this because he likes these guys.

  522. They're good value. Verse 15, the compromise.

  523. Here's where it happens at work. This is what they tried to do to

  524. Eric Little when he wouldn't run on the Sabbath day.

  525. He says I can't run on the 7th. I'm going to church the Sabbath.

  526. I don't run. And they got the Prince royalty

  527. to come and say, look, we know you stand.

  528. Maybe we can just sort something out here.

  529. Here's the next step. Here's what happens in your

  530. workplace. Here's the compromise.

  531. Now look, if you're ready at the time, you hear the sound of the

  532. horn, flute, harp, lyre and sultry and you fall down, no big

  533. deal. Just worship, which I've made.

  534. Hey, it's all good. Like I say, anymore, it's all

  535. good. I know you're a Christian, I

  536. know you're going to, but if you could just, you know, just go

  537. along with everybody else, it's all good.

  538. It's just a smooth voice of compromise.

  539. Be reasonable. Isn't that what the world tells

  540. you and I to do When we make a stand?

  541. It does just bow down. But if you do not worship,

  542. you'll be cast immediately into the midst of a burning, fiery

  543. furnace and hear what Nebuchadnezzar says.

  544. And who is the God who would deliver you from my hands?

  545. I run the show. I'm in charge of your life.

  546. I dictate whether you live or die.

  547. God cannot overrule me. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego

  548. answered and said to the king. Oh, Nebuchadnezzar, we have no

  549. need to answer you in this matter.

  550. So with calmness and courage, they don't go, Oh, you're,

  551. you're, you're a pink king. We don't like you.

  552. You know, I didn't do anything stupid.

  553. This is where this is where you've got to be wise as

  554. serpents, as general as doves, when you're dealing with, with

  555. fractures and situations in your workplace, in your school, in

  556. your situations, in your family, where don't, don't be arrogant.

  557. Learn from the guy who's just been killed.

  558. Assassinated. What was his name again?

  559. Charlie. Yeah.

  560. Always, always said. Oh, hi.

  561. What's your name? Good to hear your point.

  562. Oh, Kim Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this

  563. matter. So with calmness and courage,

  564. they offered no alibis. They were not arrogant, but they

  565. were firm and resolute in their choice to not bow with everybody

  566. else. And here's what you can do in

  567. your workplace in your situation.

  568. Exactly. I'm not sure if you're aware,

  569. but I am a Christian. I'm, I'm a devout follower of

  570. Jesus Christ. I believe he is my Lord and

  571. Saviour. What you're asking me to do is

  572. against my faith. And you know, by law, by law

  573. they have to give you room because they do it.

  574. Everybody else just that we don't speak up enough.

  575. That's all. By law they have to give you

  576. room in what you're saying. Their reply was to the point, no

  577. waffling. We need no need to answer you in

  578. this matter. Psalm 119, verse 11 says thy

    Psalms 119:11

  579. word, have I hidden my heart that I might not sin against

  580. you. They knew they couldn't do this.

  581. Verse 17 If that is the case, our God, whom we serve, is able

  582. to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will

  583. deliver us from your hand, O King.

  584. Well, but if not, verse 18, let it be known, O King, that we do

  585. not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which

  586. you've set up. In other words, our God is still

  587. God will be delivered either way.

  588. Jesus prayed the same, didn't he, in the Garden of Gethsemane?

  589. Not my will, but Lord, your will.

  590. That's your prayer. Please add that at the end of

  591. each time you pray about something.

  592. Not my will, but your will, Lord.

  593. Sadly, some people will serve God only as long as He does what

  594. they tell Him to. Every one of us will face a

  595. furnace of sorts sometime. It could be a literal one, as

  596. Polycarp did in Turkey and 155 AD, where they burned him at the

  597. stake because he wouldn't go Caesar's Lord and put the

  598. incense down. That's all he had to do.

  599. Caesar's Lord, sprinkle some incense.

  600. He would have lived. The Roman guard said, just old

  601. man, you're a lovely old man. Because he fed them, fed the

  602. soldiers came to us. Just just just say Caesar's

  603. Lord, sprinkle a bit. What's what's the deal?

  604. He says, I can't do that. It might be a furnace of

  605. mocking, being laughed at in your school, by your own family,

  606. your workplace, or your sporting team.

  607. You know you can be laughed into hell, but you can't be laughed

  608. out of hell. The ifs in verse 17 and 18 were

  609. strong, clear, with no questioning of God's ability,

  610. His omnipotent power. God will deliver.

  611. They each believe that God was able to deliver them alive.

  612. Their response was strong, but they did not know the mind of

  613. God. They didn't know what God was

  614. going to do, whether his plans included their deliverance.

  615. If they died, well, God would still be vindicated like Job.

  616. Job says Job 13 verse 15. Though he slay me, yet I will

    Job 13:15

  617. trust him, Even so, I will defend my own ways before him.

  618. Nothing would change their convictions.

  619. They chose God's will above their own.

  620. If only you and I would do that. If you left today and you chose

  621. God's will above your own, your life will change dramatically.

  622. Why? The Word of God was clear.

  623. Exodus 20, verse 4. You shall not make for yourself

    Exodus 20:4

  624. a carved image, any likeness of anything that is in heaven

  625. above, was on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under

  626. the earth. You shall not bow down to them

  627. nor serve them. It's pretty clear for I, the

  628. Lord your God am a jealous God. Nebuchadnezzar goes off, throw

  629. them in the furnace. Verse 20 So he commanded the

  630. mightiest men of his army to come forward.

  631. They grab Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

  632. They stoked the the brick kiln furnace.

  633. It's just glowing. And as they throw these guys in,

  634. the fire is so bad that the men who grabbed them and arrest them

  635. are burnt. As the three fall into the fire,

  636. it says verse 23, these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and

  637. Abednego, fouled down, tied up into the midst of the burning

  638. fiery furnace. But here's the greater miracle.

  639. The three young men were seen not laying on the ground being

  640. cooked. Now they've seen walking around

  641. calmly, around and around in the flames, no longer tied up,

  642. unaffected by the flames of the furnace.

  643. They're not screaming help Get Me Out, Get Me Out.

  644. They're just walking around calmly.

  645. The king then sees something even more amazing.

  646. Verse 24, he said, can we cast in how many?

  647. We cast in three, three men, right?

  648. Yes, true old king. He says, look, I see four men

  649. loose walking in the middle of the fire.

  650. They're not hurt and in the form of the 4th is like the Son of

  651. God. Wow.

  652. There was a fourth person in the furnace walking with them who

  653. wasn't It was the Lord in Isaiah 43 verse 2 before this event

    Isaiah 43:2

  654. happened. Isaiah wrote when you pass

  655. through the waters, I'll be with you through the rivers.

  656. They shall not overflow you. The Jordan, remember sea, Red

  657. Sea, when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.

  658. How can he say that? Nor shall the flames scorch you.

  659. That's specific. I am with you always until the

  660. end of the age. Jesus said.

  661. John 1633. These things I spoken to you,

  662. that in me you may have peace in the world you will have

  663. tribulation. But be of good cheer.

  664. I've overcome the world now some and I've heard teach incorrectly

  665. stated well these men when they said well we're not sure what

  666. God's going to do lacked faith. It's a good Hebrew Australian.

  667. They're buffets that say that because in Hebrews Chapter 11

    Hebrews 11:32

  668. verse 32, the writer of Hebrews says, what more shall I say?

  669. For the time would fail to tell of Gideon and Barack and Samson,

  670. Jephthah, also David and Samuel and the prophets who through

  671. faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained

  672. promises, stopped the mouths of lions that's going to come

  673. quench the violence fire. Nothing could be further from

  674. the truth of the faith of these three young men.

  675. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were only in the fire.

  676. Why? You know, it was God's will for

  677. them to be in the fire, to be thrown into the fire.

  678. Because they chose God's will, ended up in the fire.

  679. They put God's will above their own.

  680. But because of their decision, because of their stand, the

  681. following blessings, which we miss out on so much because we

  682. won't, we won't go that but why? What?

  683. No, it's too risky. I'm not doing I'll just I'll

  684. just keep quiet about it. I won't say so we miss out on

  685. the blessings and we we, you know, we sing, we come to oh,

  686. God would bless me and bless me. Well, the blessings come, but

  687. they only come to those who stand up.

  688. You can't get the blessings if you're bowed down like everybody

  689. else. What were the blessings they

  690. received in the fire? They were aware of God's

  691. presence. They experienced God's

  692. protection. They saw God's power.

  693. They did not try to leave the furnace.

  694. They didn't say like, OK, we're walking out, we're not giving,

  695. let's get out of here. They stayed.

  696. You know why they stayed? Because Christ was with them.

  697. It was better in the fire with Christ than outside of the fire.

  698. The only reason they came out of the fire is Nebuchadnezzar

  699. called them out. Otherwise they would have stayed

  700. in there. They had fellowship with God in

  701. the trial. Many of you going through

  702. trials, let me tell you, you grow closer and stronger in your

  703. relationship with the Lord because of the trial.

  704. Look at the trial, the trials. God is allowed to come down and

  705. upon your life you go. Keith, I'm not enjoying it.

  706. No, we're not here to have a happy life, people.

  707. That's why people got well, I want to go to church to have a

  708. happy life. That's not what church is about.

  709. Our role is to grow into a, an understanding and knowledge and

  710. closeness of who God is. And the way that that happens is

  711. God says we're going to go through some fires, but then

  712. you're going to see how great and mighty I am.

  713. Then you're going to experience my closeness and then you'll see

  714. how much I love you. You'll understand who I am.

  715. So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came from the midst of

  716. the fire. Everyone stand around.

  717. They're all gathering. They're gaping, their mouths

  718. open. They saw these men on whose

  719. bodies the fire had no power. The hair of their head was not

  720. cinched. I know all about that.

  721. I'm good at barbecues. I've blown myself up several

  722. times. Nor were there garments

  723. affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

  724. I love this because I can imagine all these other dudes

  725. going and Shadrach, Meshach just stand there, go sniff away.

  726. It's the smell of fire. Nebuchadnezzar spoke saying.

  727. Blessed be the God of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego who said

  728. his Angel delivered his servants who notice.

  729. He said notice. Why, even Nebuchadnezzar, who

  730. trusted in him? That's what God says.

  731. And they are frustrated. The King's word, they have

  732. noticed he's picking out all the points.

  733. They have yielded their bodies. They they should not serve nor

  734. worship any God except their own.

  735. This is the second time the three young men have been

  736. identified as godly by the ungodly.

  737. Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, language,

  738. whatever that speaks against the God of Shadrach and and Meshach,

  739. and he says all this shall be cut in pieces.

  740. There is no other God who can deliver like this.

  741. Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the

  742. province of Babylon. So where does promotion come

  743. from? Bible tells us it's from the

  744. Lord. Promotion only comes from the

  745. Lord. If they aren't standing up,

  746. there's no promotion. Do you get that?

  747. We often go. Why can't where come?

  748. Well, God's going well. Because you won't even stand up

  749. for me. Why should I promote you

  750. anywhere over here? As they stepped out of the

  751. furnace, there was no smell of smoke.

  752. No hair is singed. And because these three young

  753. men chose God's will above their own, the king saw the power and

  754. presence of God in their lives because of their obedience.

  755. You know, do you have unsaved loved ones?

  756. Yeah, we all do. Can they see because of the way

  757. that you stand up for God? Can they see the presence and

  758. power of God in your life because of your obedience to

  759. Him? Were the King's own proud words

  760. now ringing in his ears? And who is the God who will

  761. deliver you from my hands? Verse 15.

  762. Are you in a fiery furnace this morning?

  763. A fiery trial? At the moment we each experience

  764. them, but we must not bow down. We won't worship what everyone

  765. else worships. I won't worship what the world

  766. worships. You should say that I won't

  767. worship what the world worships. Jesus says in Acts 18.

  768. But you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come

  769. upon you. Why?

  770. You shall be witnesses. You testify of how great I am.

  771. God delivered his servants who trusted in Him, and they

  772. frustrated the King's word. They yielded their bodies that

  773. they should not serve nor worship any God except their own

  774. God. They yielded their bodies not

  775. merely the risking of their lives, but the giving of

  776. themselves. What does Romans chapter 12

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  777. verse one say to you? And IA letter written by Paul to

  778. Christians and it's written to you.

  779. I pray you hear what it says. Verse one, Romans 12 and so dear

  780. brothers and sisters, I plead some of the Bible say, I beg you

  781. to give what your bodies to God because why of all that he's

  782. done for you? You think they stood up because

  783. what God has done for them already.

  784. So what has God done anything for you?

  785. Has He done anything for you? Let your body be a living and

  786. holy sacrifice. What is a sacrifice?

  787. It's something that you give up, isn't it?

  788. The kind he will find acceptable?

  789. And then it says, this is truly the way to worship Him.

  790. These three young men were honoured by the king, and God

  791. gave them protection and prosperity.

  792. Jesus said Matthew chapter 10 verse 32.

    Matthew 10:32
