  1. Please take a seat, open your Bibles.

  2. We're going to go around the world a little bit because of

  3. the topic, but open it to Luke's Gospel Chapter 1, Luke's Gospel

  4. Chapter 1, tonight's text and Scriptures.

  5. When you see the Jehovah Witnesses and we see him at the

  6. beach, they set up down there and I haven't spoken to them as

  7. yet, but I'm I'm pretty close to having my time.

  8. And because they deny the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, they deny

  9. that Jesus is the Son of God. They say he is a son of God and

  10. all that they deny and every cult is defined.

  11. You define a cult by their non recognition of Jesus Christ

  12. being God in the flesh. And so tonight I want you, I

  13. pray you take notes. There's a lot of going to be a

  14. lot of scriptures. You you need to understand the

  15. difference because Jehovah Witnesses will say, oh, we're

  16. Christians. Mormons will say we're

  17. Christians and they aren't. The Bible actually tells us that

  18. they're wolves in sheep's clothing, that they are false

  19. prophets and they're dangerous. And so we give Bible open to

  20. Luke. Stay there.

  21. But I'm just going to give you a couple of scriptures to start

  22. off with. So we're looking at the virgin

  23. birth. Why is the virgin birth?

  24. Actually it should more technically be said the virgin

  25. conception, the holy conception. The birth was quite normal

  26. except for Mary being a virgin obviously, but the conception

  27. was miraculous. In Isaiah Chapter 7 verse 14,

    Isaiah 7:14

  28. Isaiah the prophet says therefore the Lord himself will

  29. give you a sign. People always want to sign from

  30. God. Well the Bible is tells you

  31. there is a sign. Behold, the virgin shall

  32. conceive bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel.

  33. That means God with us. In Matthew chapter one verse 23,

  34. Matthew repeats this. Behold the virgin shall be with

  35. child and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,

  36. which is translated God with us. These are the Then, in Luke 127,

  37. in our text to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name

  38. was Joseph of the House of David, we're getting a little

  39. bit more information. The virgin's name was Mary.

  40. So why the virgin conception anyway?

  41. Why is it important? The virgin birth or the virgin

  42. conception of Jesus is foundational to all Christian

  43. theology. Without it, you have a cult.

  44. The virgin birth was the means of incarnation.

  45. That is the act of being embodied in human form.

  46. That's what incarnation means. God becoming a man.

  47. The incarnation once accomplished.

  48. And you need to know this is a lasting state for our Lord

  49. wasn't just Bethlehem and he rose from the dead and that's

  50. that back to who he was. Hebrews chapter 10 verse 12

    Hebrews 10:12

  51. tells us of Jesus. But this man capital M Speaking

  52. of Jesus, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever

  53. sat down at the right hand of God in John chapter one verse

  54. 29, John, that is John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward

  55. him and said, behold the lamb capital L of God, who takes away

  56. the sin of the world. Jesus in Revelation chapter 5

    Revelation 5:6

  57. verse 6 says John is elevated, translated.

  58. He sees the throne of God, and he says, and I looked and

  59. behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living

  60. creatures, and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb capital

  61. L, as though it had been slain. So the only man made features

  62. that we'll find in heaven are the scars that Christ will carry

  63. forever from his crucifixion. The scars, the very wounds that

  64. he revealed to Thomas, who didn't believe initially stood a

  65. lamb as though it had been slain, having 7 horns and seven

  66. eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all

  67. the earth in Revelation chapter 5, verse 13.

    Revelation 5:13

  68. And this is the scripture I'm going to give to the Jehovah

  69. Witnesses, going to write it out, hand it to him.

  70. I'm going to walk away and go Revelation 513 and every

  71. creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth

  72. and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard

  73. saying blessing and honour, glory and power be to him who

  74. sits on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.

  75. You can only worship God. The Bible tells us that, and

  76. this is this verse that says everyone is to worship the Lamb.

  77. Who's the Lamb? We already know that it's Jesus

  78. Christ. Jesus Christ receives worship.

  79. Why? Because he is God.

  80. This incarnation began Christ's birth in Bethlehem and

  81. continued, albeit in a resurrected body and now

  82. forever. All this coming from an event

  83. that lasted but a few hours. The actual birth, the virgin

  84. birth of Jesus in that stable, in that Manger light, in a

  85. Manger in Bethlehem. It was the Angel Gabriel.

  86. When he announced to Mary, he said she would bear the Messiah.

  87. She would not need a man because Mary Luke 134 said to the Angel,

  88. how can this be? I mean, it can't be since I do

  89. not know a man. Some of the translations have

  90. since I do not have a husband. But we know under Jewish law she

  91. actually does have a husband. She's a spouse husband.

  92. That's why Joseph was going to remember divorcer when he found

  93. out she was pregnant. How since I do not know a man,

  94. the Holy Spirit Gabriel said Luke 135 and the Angel answered

  95. and said to Mary, how this is going to happen?

  96. The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the

  97. highest will over shadow you. This is the conception therefore

  98. also that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of

  99. God. He gives it very clearly of who

  100. she's she's going to give birth to and how miraculous this birth

  101. is going to be. Matthew writes the fact of the

  102. virgin birth in his list of genealogies.

  103. In Matthew chapter one verse 16. He writes in Jacob begot Joseph

  104. the husband of Mary and then comma of whom was born Jesus who

  105. was called Christ. Joseph, Matthew says was the

  106. husband of Mary, but it was by Mary only that Jesus was born.

  107. In Genesis 315 the Lord gave the prophecy of Christ coming.

  108. And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between

  109. your seed and her seed. He shall bruise your head,

  110. Speaking of Satan, and you shall bruise his heel.

  111. Now the words of whom? In Matthew 116 in the Greek

  112. language, it's important. It's a feminine singular in the

  113. Greek language, telling us that Jesus was born of Mary only, not

  114. of Joseph and Mary. So the question is, well, but

  115. why all the fuss about the virgin birth?

  116. I mean, a lot of churches don't believe in the virgin birth.

  117. A lot of so called Christians don't believe in the virgin

  118. birth. Why?

  119. Why? What's the big deal about it?

  120. Why is it important? God could have overshadowed both

  121. parents so as to protect the baby's sinlessness had he so

  122. desired. God could say, well, I'm just

  123. going to produce this child, but through Mary only.

  124. Remember, Isaiah 714 said this served as a sign of the

  125. uniqueness of the person who was born.

  126. Now every child born into the world is totally a new creature.

  127. I think that's, you know, the most amazing people say, well, I

  128. don't believe in miracles and I go just open your eyes a little

  129. bit, look around, ask mom and dad when they hold the little

  130. baby, do they believe in miracles?

  131. And every child is a miracle. Every one of us is a miracle,

  132. but Jesus Christ being eternal God.

  133. John chapter one verse one in the beginning was the word and

  134. the word was with God and the word was God.

  135. The Jehovah Witnesses couldn't allow that to stay in their

  136. Bibles so they had to rewrite the Bible and put and the word

  137. was our God in John one verse 2. He was in the beginning with

  138. God. So Jesus is the word in the

  139. beginning was the word and the word was with God, Jesus with

  140. God, the word was God. And then in John chapter one

  141. verse 14, John says, and the word that is God became flesh

  142. and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the

  143. only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

  144. Jesus says I am the way of the truth.

  145. I'm all truth. Jesus existed before Mary or

  146. Joseph Oregon, any of his earthly ancestors.

  147. He actually brought that up when he was arguing with the

  148. Pharisees, didn't he? If Jesus was conceived and born

  149. just as any other child, any other baby, then he could not be

  150. God. It was necessary for Jesus to

  151. enter this world through an earthly mother, but not to be

  152. begotten by an earthly father and by a miracle.

  153. The virgin conceiving of the Holy Spirit, overshadowing

  154. Gabriel, says Jesus was conceived miraculously in the

  155. womb of Mary, a virgin. The Old Testament prophecies

  156. told us that Messiah would be we read Genesis 315, born of a

  157. woman, seed of a woman. Also this child, the Messiah

  158. would be of the seed of Abraham. Genesis 2218 the Old Testament

  159. prophecies tells us that the Messiah would be and come from

  160. the tribe of Judah specific Genesis 4910 the Old Testament

  161. prophecies also told us that he would come from one family

  162. lineage of the family of David to Samuel Chapter 7, verses 12

  163. and 13. So it's worth noting that Jesus

  164. Christ is the only Jew alive who can actually prove his claim to

  165. the throne of David. How is that you?

  166. Remember that all the other records were destroyed when by

  167. General Titus, the Roman legion 70 AD, and not a stone was left

  168. on top. Another, as Jesus said would

  169. happen when the Romans took Jerusalem.

  170. So all the records but one, the record of one that's pretty

  171. important. I remember when I first learned

  172. that many years ago, and that is so out of the bad.

  173. There's something amazing that all these other records are

  174. gone, but we have this one and he's the only one we really need

  175. to know about. Isaiah 714 we read it is the

  176. most explicit prophecy of Jesus birth.

  177. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.

  178. Behold, the virgin shall conceive.

  179. So the virgin shall conceive. That's the miraculous bear.

  180. A son, a male child shall call his name, specifically Emmanuel.

  181. Jesus would be called Emmanuel, God with us and Isaiah Chapter 9

    Isaiah 9:6

  182. verse 6, many of you know that passage, we get a great detail

  183. of the virgin birth child who would be Messiah.

  184. And so this one person has to fulfil all these things written

  185. hundreds of years before Christ was born.

  186. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.

  187. For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son.

  188. John 316 And the government will be upon his shoulder, and his

  189. name will be called all capitals.

  190. Wonderful counsellor, mighty God you can.

  191. You don't just call Bill Smith from Nazareth, he's mighty God.

  192. You don't do that. You don't call him Everlasting

  193. Father. You don't call him Capital P,

  194. Prince of Peace. A child would be born, a son is

  195. given. He would be a ruler.

  196. He is the King of kings. He would have supreme wisdom.

  197. He would be God. He's the mighty God.

  198. He is the eternal God, Everlasting Father.

  199. He would bring peace, Prince of Peace.

  200. So what's the purpose of the incarnation?

  201. Many will just go, oh, just salvation, isn't it?

  202. Oh, no, no, no, that that's that's the shallow end of the

  203. pool. Actually, that's the wading part

  204. of a pool. The purpose of the incarnation.

  205. You and I need to know. So what's what is it?

  206. 1 To reveal God to us. I remember as a child I just

  207. wanted to know. I wanted I used to pray as a

  208. little boy 4-5 years old. I did.

  209. I used to pray God, show me what you look like.

  210. Show me how. What are you like?

  211. I'm afraid that the only way man can see the Father is to know

  212. about the Son. We know about the son through

  213. his word and God was personalised and he became flesh

  214. and dwelt amongst us in in one John John starts off 1 John.

  215. He says we we we touched him, we heard him.

  216. He was in the beginning that was was in the beginning.

  217. Secondly, the purpose of the incarnation was to provide an

  218. example for our lives. People say well how do I live as

  219. a Christian? It's pretty easy.

  220. Read the Bible, read the gospels, follow Christ.

  221. One Peter chapter 2 verse 21 Peter wrote for God called you

  222. to do good even if it means suffering, just as Christ

  223. suffered for you. He is your example.

  224. Good thing to tell your kids you must follow in his steps. 1 John

    1 John 2:6

  225. chapter 2, verse 6. Those who say they live in God

  226. should live their lives as Jesus did.

  227. Without Christ's incarnation we would not have that example.

  228. Remember the WWJD Bengals and things that came out?

  229. What would Jesus do? And I think that's a pretty cool

  230. thing. Those, those actual, that actual

  231. statement. And I actually apply it every

  232. day of my life. I apply it big time in the

  233. pulpit. I've changed so much preaching

  234. from the pulpit because I put in there, would Jesus bother saying

  235. that? Would he even raise that?

  236. And I'm still learning. But what would Jesus say if he

  237. was teaching today? If he was going through this

  238. text, what would he say? What would Jesus say?

  239. But better still, when I'm in a situation and it's difficult and

  240. I've got choices how I'm going to react.

  241. The simple point is, what would Jesus do in the situation?

  242. Because the Bible is full of Jesus telling us what to do.

  243. Love your enemies, pray for those that sparkly, use you.

  244. All those things which we don't like, we put them aside and we

  245. act in our own ways and then we wonder why we get ourselves into

  246. trouble and why we always coming for God.

  247. God, sorry for being such an idiot.

  248. I'm an idiot when I don't do what Jesus did.

  249. I'm an idiot when I don't follow his example.

  250. Thirdly, without the virgin birth, the incarnation, and here

  251. it is, we would have no Saviour, the Jehovah Witnesses, the

  252. Mormons. They have no saviour.

  253. They talk about Jesus, but he's not their saviour because he's

  254. not God in the flesh. You see, sin requires death for

  255. its payment. Why does it?

  256. Because the Bible says the wages of sin is what?

  257. Death. And so to pay for the wages of

  258. sin, it requires death. But here's the problem.

  259. God doesn't die, does he? He's eternal lives forever.

  260. So the servant must be human in order to be able to die.

  261. This is was the problem. When my I found out my brother

  262. became a job witness. I rang him and said, Trevor,

  263. what are you doing? You you joined the cult, He

  264. says. He says, well, but God can't

  265. die. And he didn't see because they

  266. twist who Jesus is. God became a man so he could.

  267. That was the first thing he said back to me the day I rang him.

  268. I said, what's happened to you? You've you've joined a cult.

  269. But the death of an ordinary man would not pay for sin eternally.

  270. Makes no difference. So the Saviour must also be God

  271. for the death to pay eternally we need a God and Saviour and we

  272. have this in our Lord. Hebrews 10 you can read from

  273. word verse one down to verse 10, but Hebrews 10 verse 4 says for

    Hebrews 10:4

  274. it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could

  275. take away sins. Even though the Jews around a

  276. touch on this on Sunday are going to rebuild the temple

  277. start the sacrifice doesn't do anything with their sin in

  278. Hebrews 10/9 Jesus said behold I have come to do your will, O God

  279. is which is what he prayed in the garden and he takes away the

  280. 1st that he may establish the second verse 10.

  281. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering

  282. of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

  283. Why once for all, Why only one crucifixion and then his

  284. resurrection? Because his his death.

  285. Innocent paid the price in full to Telesty.

  286. It's finished, paid, done. We need the virgin birth God man

  287. for David's throne to fulfil the Davidic covenant.

  288. Luke 131 And behold, you will conceive in your womb.

  289. Bring forth the son shall call his name Jesus.

  290. He'll be great will be called the Son of the highest.

  291. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and

  292. he will reign over the House of Jacob Forever.

  293. That's Israel and of his Kingdom there shall be no end.

  294. That's a pretty hefty prophecy there.

  295. There's a lot of meat there. But to have someone occupy

  296. David's throne requires a human being to fulfil that.

  297. So the Messiah must be human from the family of David.

  298. That's why they went to Bethlehem.

  299. Wasn't it? Tax.

  300. But to occupy the throne of David, the throne forever, A man

  301. can't do that. It requires the occupant to

  302. never die. Only God qualifies.

  303. God doesn't die, so the only one who ultimately fulfils the

  304. Davidic promise has to be God, Man.

  305. Fourthly, the virgin birth. Christ coming as a man, God

  306. becoming a man was so that Satan would be defeated.

  307. Our enemy, Satan must be defeated in the area he

  308. dominates. Paul says he's the he's the God

  309. of this world, isn't he? The Prince and power of the air.

  310. He's the little G When Jesus was in the wilderness, driven by the

  311. Holy Spirit, Satan offered him what the world?

  312. Where did he get it? He got it off Adam and Eve.

  313. I lost them. So Jesus was sent into the world

  314. to destroy Satan's works. 5th point the virgin birth God

  315. becoming a man gave us a sympathetic high priest.

  316. Hebrews 4 verse 14 says, seeing then that we have a great high

    Hebrews 4:14

  317. priest who has passed through the heavens, who it is Jesus,

  318. the Son of God. We're told, let us hold fast our

  319. confession, for we do not have a high priest who cannot

  320. sympathise. Well, God doesn't understand.

  321. You're wrong. The Bible says he does.

  322. God knows or God doesn't know. Yes he does, because we do not

  323. have a high priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses.

  324. God understands absolutely why He walked this world, He

  325. breathed this air, He lived as a man in this world.

  326. He was in all points, tempted as we are, yet without sin.

  327. Let us because of the God man, Let us therefore come boldly to

  328. the throne of grace. Why?

  329. Because Jesus Christ opened the way.

  330. We can come now in His blood, by His blood, by His name to the

  331. Father. There's no temple, there's no

  332. blockage of which the high priest only one day here, when

  333. Jesus was crucified, what happened?

  334. The vile was torn in two from when?

  335. From the top to the bottom. And the ground shook.

  336. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace.

  337. That's the place you go. You know, when you pray, you

  338. think, oh, should I pray? I can't.

  339. Don't feel like praying. You're missing out on grace.

  340. You're missing out on getting what you don't deserve.

  341. I miss out on getting what I don't deserve, that we may

  342. obtain What? When you pray, when you go to

  343. the throne of God, you know what you get mercy.

  344. Now I need mercy. Have you done anything today,

  345. Any of you? Something that you think is not

  346. not really good? Had any bad thoughts today?

  347. Got angry when you shouldn't have.

  348. Got angry that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in

  349. time of need. So how?

  350. How often should we be for the throne of God?

  351. Probably all the time. Our high Priest can feel our

  352. weaknesses because he was tested as we are.

  353. But here's the problem. But it's not a problem.

  354. But here's the clarification. God has never tested.

  355. God does. Well, Gee, that's hard.

  356. How am I going to sort that out? God can't be tested, so how

  357. could we have a high priest who sympathises?

  358. Because God had to become a man so that he could go through

  359. testings like he went through in the Garden of Gethsemane.

  360. So it was necessary for God to become a man, to be able to be

  361. tested in order to be a sympathetic priest.

  362. Lastly, that's pretty important. This one.

  363. God became a man born of a virgin so that he was able to be

  364. a qualified judge. Qualified judge.

  365. Where's that come from? Well, the Bible tells us and

  366. we're getting to that point, our world is Jesus will be our

  367. ultimate judge. In John chapter 5 verse 22,

    John 5:22

  368. Jesus said himself, the Father judges no one.

  369. You know this image that I had as a kid of the big old bloke

  370. sitting on a throne and going around with a lever.

  371. Father doesn't do the judging. Jesus does the judging for the

  372. Father judges no one, but has committed all judgement to the

  373. son. Verse 26, John 5 For as the

  374. Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have

  375. life in himself, and has given him authority to execute

  376. judgement also. Why?

  377. Because He is the Son of man. That's the reason He has that

  378. authority to judge us. Every man, every woman, everyone

  379. born in this world because he's walked this path, God became a

  380. man because He is the Son of man.

  381. God the Father gave him the role of judgement.

  382. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is returning and He will judge

  383. the world with righteousness. This is the title, the term Son

  384. of man. This is the title that links him

  385. to the earth and his earthly mission.

  386. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the Son of God, and He became the

  387. Son of Man. Why is it necessary But for the

  388. Judge to be human and have lived on earth, Why is that necessary?

  389. So that when every individual and every individual will stand

  390. before Christ has rejected him, The second resurrection, the

  391. great white throne judgement, So that Jesus may put down all

  392. excuses He can't say, oh, when you don't, how would you know?

  393. You've never, I have, I did no excuses.

  394. So that he may put down all excuses people might try to

  395. make. But why must the judge also be

  396. God? So that his judgement will be

  397. true and just because every time God is said to judge and make a

  398. judgement, particularly all through in Daniel 9:00, we we

  399. saw it all through the Book of Revelation during the

  400. tribulation period, every time God made a judgement, the angels
