  1. This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Lewis

  2. Harold, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland

  3. County in Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Lewis as he

  4. continues teaching through God's Word.

  5. This is what the end times are going to look like.

  6. It's going to have these deceptive people who appear to

  7. be godly, but there's no relationship whatsoever.

  8. And he says, Paul says now from these people, turn away, turn

  9. away from these people, have no fellowship.

  10. Have no fellowship with these people.

  11. You got to turn away from them because they can be seductive,

  12. they can be deceiving, they can be luring, so you need to turn

  13. away from them. There's a lot of talk about

  14. staying away from toxic people, but then the generally accepted

  15. definition of toxic seems to be people who disagree with you.

  16. But what if there were people out there who make you feel

  17. good, but really they're drawing you away from God?

  18. As Pastor Lewis points out in today's message, those are the

  19. type of people you need to stay away from.

  20. The Bible says not to have any kind of fellowship with those

  21. who say they're of God, but their fruit tells another story.

  22. Now here's Pastor Lewis in Second Timothy Chapter 3 with

    2 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  23. today's edition of Living Waters of Grace.

  24. They have a form of godliness, and this form of godliness

  25. actually means that it's a they have a shape of godliness or

  26. semblance of godliness. They have an appearance of

  27. godliness, but there's no fruit, there's no substance, there's

  28. nothing, there's no life on the inside.

  29. It's just a shell of an appearance of godliness.

  30. It's an imitator of godly people without the power.

  31. So it's like profession without practice, without no

  32. relationship whatsoever. And this is what Paul is saying.

  33. Paul is saying these people are going to look righteous, they're

  34. going to look holy, they're going to look religious, but

  35. they won't have the Redeemer. They will not have that

  36. relationship with the Lord. None.

  37. These are people who Jesus is talking about over in Matthew 7

  38. when he says that they're going to be many that are going to

  39. come to me and say Lord, Lord. But everybody who comes to me

  40. saying Lord, Lord will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.

  41. Oh, but they're going to put up the argument.

  42. Lord, didn't you know? You know, didn't we Prophecy in

  43. your name did not cast out demons in your name did not do

  44. many wonders in your name. And he's going to say depart

  45. from me. I never knew you, depart from

  46. me. You who work lawlessness, Yes,

  47. you had an outward shell. You had a appearance of

  48. godliness, but there was never relationship.

  49. I never knew you. There was never relationship and

  50. that's exactly what we're going to see in the last days.

  51. These teachers, these false teachers that are going to have

  52. this appearance of godliness. They're going to sound godly,

  53. but their lives have no fruit. They're going to be just like

  54. Jesus talked about over in Matthew chapter 23 when he

    Matthew 23 chapter mention

  55. talked about the woes over in Matthew 23.

  56. And there's two woes in particular that just gives me

  57. the chills that he talks about. And he basically saying chapter

  58. 25, verse 23, what are you scribes and Pharisees,

  59. hypocrites for? You cleanse the outside of the

  60. cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self

  61. indulgence. And that's exactly what these

  62. false teachers will be. They'll be full of self

  63. indulgence. Everything that they're

  64. teaching, everything that they're doing is for selfish

  65. gain. The Bible says they're feeding

  66. their own bellies. And then in verse 27 in the same

  67. chapter, he says, woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,

  68. hypocrites, for you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed

  69. appear beautifully beautiful outwardly.

  70. And I remember Clark telling us that he was in Israel and he

  71. stood up on the hill and he saw these whitewashed tombs and how

  72. they glittered in the sunlight and how beautiful they looked in

  73. the sunlight. He said that's exactly what

  74. these false teachers are going to be like.

  75. Like these whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful

  76. outwardly, but inside are full of dead man's bones and awe,

  77. uncleanness, awe, uncleanness. This is what the end times are

  78. going to look like. It's going to have these

  79. deceptive people who appear to be godly, but there's no

  80. relationship whatsoever. And he says, Paul says now from

  81. these people, turn away, turn away from these people, have no

  82. fellowship. Have no fellowship with these

  83. people. You got to turn away from them

  84. because they can be seductive, they can be deceiving, they can

  85. be luring. So you need to turn away from

  86. them. You need to break fellowship

  87. with these people and have no further fellowship with them,

  88. neither inside the church or outside the church.

  89. He, you know, they actually mean to shun the people or to avoid

  90. these people, but we treat them like unbelievers.

  91. So we pray for them. We pray for them, we minister to

  92. them. We don't just throw them away.

  93. We don't just, we don't put, we don't talk about them and, and

  94. put them down. We pray for them.

  95. We pray that God would touch their hearts and that they would

  96. and that they would turn from these things.

  97. We intercede on their behalf, understanding that they are

  98. taken captive by Satan. They're being used by Satan.

  99. So we pray for them. And then he goes further.

  100. And he said for of this sort are those who creep into households,

  101. they creep into households that mean.

  102. And, and what that probably means is that because they were

  103. told to not have fellowship with these people, these false

  104. teachers and these unbelievers who you know, who, who, who show

  105. these kind of characteristics, these people are probably

  106. they're not invited into the fellowship of the believers.

  107. So they don't have access to the believers.

  108. You know, they don't stand in the Congregation of the

  109. Righteous. So these people creep into homes

  110. and make their way or get access into homes of vulnerable people

  111. who will listen to what it is that they have to say.

  112. And, and, and what it says here is that they go into households

  113. and make captives because in a spiritual war, just like in a

  114. regular war, there's always captives.

  115. In a regular war, there's captives, people who get

  116. captive. But also that way for the, the,

  117. the, in a spiritual war, they're captives.

  118. People are taken captive. And he's saying that these they

  119. take captives of these gullible women.

  120. And just because it says, when I want to clarify this, just

  121. because it says gullible women, that doesn't necessarily mean

  122. he's talking about all women. He's not saying that all women

  123. are gullible. We know that that's not true.

  124. All women are not gullible. But what he is saying that these

  125. are prompt is a section of people or a group of women that

  126. was obviously identified that these false prophets had gone

  127. into. These are women who were weak.

  128. They were his a weak self will. They had no self will.

  129. They're women who were not grounded and they went in

  130. because they were gullible. Now there's, there's four things

  131. that Paul mentions here that makes these women a target for

  132. these false teachers. The one thing he mentioned, he

  133. said they're gullible. They're gullible women.

  134. That means they listened. They're open to everything.

  135. They're open to everything. They're willing to believe

  136. anything that sounds good. I remember when I was young, I

  137. heard a pastor once say, it's amazing what you remember when

  138. you're young sitting in a congregation.

  139. But the the pastor once said, he said if you don't stand for

  140. something, you will fall for anything.

  141. And I never forgot that. I never forgot that.

  142. And that's exactly what's going on here.

  143. These women didn't stand for Christ.

  144. They didn't stand for truth, they didn't stand for true

  145. doctrine. So they were willing to fall for

  146. anything. And that's exactly what happened

  147. with these particular women. So the first things that they

  148. were gullible women. The second thing is that they

  149. were loaded down with sins. So these are women who were

  150. given to their own passions. They were given to their sinful

  151. ways. They would rather those sins

  152. were sexual sins, or rather it was, you know, sins of being

  153. busy bodies or gossipers, sins of just being involved in

  154. things, self sync, satisfying sins.

  155. But they were loaded down with sin.

  156. Not just sinful, they were loaded down with sins.

  157. Sin is a burden. Sin is a burden by the way, it

  158. does weigh you down. It weighs you down.

  159. It causes you to feel like you're carrying something extra

  160. on you like in your life, and you are.

  161. You're carrying these burdens with you.

  162. And that's why when we get saved, we feel so light.

  163. When we give our lives to Christ, we feel so light because

  164. we relieve those burdens. Did we drop those burdens?

  165. We give them all to him. The sin, you know, the burden

  166. bearer, we give them to the burden bear instead of us

  167. bearing them, the burden bear takes them.

  168. And that's why we feel so light when we get saved.

  169. Do you remember that when you first got saved, how you just

  170. felt so light? Everything outside looks so much

  171. brighter. You look in the grass and look

  172. greener. Flowers look more beautiful.

  173. The sky look bluer. You know you're smiling at

  174. everybody and talking to everybody because you were just

  175. so free. You were.

  176. You were, you were. You were free from those burdens

  177. that once used to bound you. And these women are loaded down

  178. with these sins also #3 they're LED away by various lusts.

  179. So not just sexual lusts, but it could also be other lusts, like

  180. the lust for things, lust for money, lust for jewelry, or

  181. whatever it may be. But they're LED away by those

  182. things. And those are the things that

  183. control their passions. And then #4 is that they're

  184. always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of

  185. truth. In other words, these women are

  186. always running somewhere looking for a fresh word.

  187. And I've seen that, you know, people will go from church to

  188. church, following speakers to go from church to church looking

  189. for a fresh word, looking for a word that satisfies their flesh,

  190. something that will tickle their ears, something that will

  191. justify the lifestyle that they're living.

  192. So they go from place to place searching, but they never come

  193. to the knowledge of the truth. They never come to the knowledge

  194. of the gospel. They never receive or experience

  195. the power of the gospel. Regardless of how many services

  196. you sit in, regardless of how many speakers you listen to, if

  197. you don't accept the truth of the gospel, you will never come

  198. to the knowledge of truth. And that's exactly what these

  199. women were doing, just searching for the knowledge and never,

  200. ever finding any. Just learning.

  201. That's the danger of being ignorant of the faith, you know?

  202. And that's why Paul, I believe This is why Paul said over in

  203. First Timothy 211 that the women should learn, but they just need

  204. to learn in silence. But they should learn.

  205. They should learn. They should learn the word of

  206. God. They should learn the doctrine,

  207. but they need to learn in silence.

  208. I think Paul was trying to avoid women being vulnerable.

  209. And these false teachers take advantage of these women and

  210. they fleece them of their money. They fleece them of their

  211. loyalty, of their services. Titus, one in 10, says that

  212. these these false teachers are teaching things that they ought

  213. not for the sake of dishonest gain, for the sake of dishonest

  214. gain. And not only do these teachers

  215. come from without people who come outside of the church and

  216. try to work their way in, but it's also people who were coming

  217. from inside the church that raise up, that are raised up to

  218. becoming a teacher. And they began to speak things

  219. that are outside of the truth and they begin to deceive other

  220. people. In fact, Paul warned about that.

  221. He warned about that over in the book of Acts, over in the book

  222. of Acts. He made it very clear over in

  223. chapter 20 of the book of Acts, starting here verse 29.

  224. He said, For I know this, that after many that after my

  225. departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing

  226. the flock also from among yourselves men will rise up

  227. speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after

  228. themselves. Therefore, watch and remember

  229. that for three years I did not cease to warn every night and

  230. day with tears. So these are these are the, the

  231. people, these false teachers that are teaching perverse

  232. things and getting people to follow them, getting people to

  233. follow them. And it's going to get even worse

  234. as it gets closer to the end time.

  235. The Bible says even the very elect may be deceived.

  236. And then in verse 8, as we get ready to come closer to a close

  237. here in verse 8, he now describes how these false

  238. teachers are resistant to truth and how they resist the gospel,

  239. how they resist the authority of the Bible.

  240. And he gives an example that I think is pretty interesting.

  241. He says now verse 8, now as Janice and John Breeze resisted

  242. Moses, now you might say, well, what did these names come from?

  243. Because if you go back in the book of Exodus, you won't see

  244. Jenny's and John Breeze back in the book of Exodus.

  245. But Paul, through study, actually through the traditional

  246. writings, he was able to discover who these two men were.

  247. And he's talking about the two magicians, the two magicians,

  248. the Egyptian magicians who stood in front of Moses and resisted

  249. him. You know, Moses came to Pharaoh,

  250. said, let my people go. They said, no, we're not going

  251. to let your people go. Moses stood down or Aaron threw

  252. down the rod and, and and it turned into a serpent.

  253. And the because they are imitators, because that's what

  254. Satan is. He's an imitator.

  255. He threw down there did the magician stood down their rod

  256. and it turned into a serpent. So of course Pharaoh said, well,

  257. there's no need of letting you go because my God can do what

  258. your God can do. So then the next thing he said,

  259. well, you let my people go. He said, no, I'm not going to

  260. let your people go. He turned the Nile River into

  261. blood. If you remember that story, he

  262. turned the Nile River into blood.

  263. And of course, his magicians came right behind him and he

  264. turned the Nile River into blood.

  265. I'm not going to let you go. Why should I let you go?

  266. My God can do what your God can do.

  267. Came to the frogs, mostly let my people go.

  268. I'm not going to let your people go.

  269. I'm going to have frogs going to come and cover the land.

  270. Now notice these magicians didn't do anything on their own.

  271. They had to imitate after Moses, they couldn't come up and do

  272. anything on their own. And that's what Satan does.

  273. He doesn't do anything on his own.

  274. He's an imitator. He's an imitator.

  275. So they brought up frogs. And that's exactly what these

  276. false teachers did. They brought up frogs too.

  277. I'm not going to let you people go.

  278. My gods can do what yours can do.

  279. Then it came to the lice. Then it came to the other six

  280. plagues that Moses was able, that the Lord did through Moses,

  281. and they couldn't duplicate it. They could not duplicate it.

  282. They were exposed. In fact, they even said over in

  283. Exodus 8 and 19, they said this is the finger of God.

  284. They finally realized it after all that time of resisting him

  285. by not wanting to believe him, by trying to imitate him.

  286. Finally they said this is the finger of God.

  287. They realized that. And that's exactly what's going

  288. to happen here with Paula saying, Paula saying just as

  289. these do as these do, as so do these who resist the truth.

  290. And that's exactly what they do. People who always want to

  291. challenge the Bible, always want to deny the truths of the Bible.

  292. They are resisting the authority of God's word and they're trying

  293. to get other people to question it as well.

  294. That goes all the way back to the garden.

  295. It's exactly what Satan did in the garden, got Eve and Adam

  296. tried to get them to, got try to get Eve to question God's word.

  297. And that's what happens with these false teachers.

  298. They, they, they get out a little bit of truth and the rest

  299. of them is a lie and they try to get you to question God's word.

  300. Did it really mean this? If that's what the word says it

  301. meant, that's what it meant. That's what it means.

  302. But they are going to resist. But they're because they're men

  303. of corrupt or depraved minds. They're disapproved concerning

  304. the faith. In other words, they have false

  305. faith, counterfeit faith. It's not real.

  306. It's not real, but verse 9 he says, but they will progress no

  307. further for their folly will be manifest to all.

  308. Yes, going to come to a point where they're going to be

  309. exposed. They're not teaching the word of

  310. God. They're teaching psychology,

  311. they're teaching humanism, they're teaching philosophy.

  312. We're hearing so much of that on TV and it's nothing but an

  313. imitate. They look like preachers, they

  314. look like preachers, they look like they're men of God.

  315. They throw a word or two in every now and then to make it

  316. sound like they're followers of God, that they're men of God,

  317. that they, that they love Jesus Christ.

  318. But the truth of the matter is they do not.

  319. They're imitators. And, and it's, and they may have

  320. 7 steps to this or seven steps to that, You know, teach you, I

  321. can improve your marriage, how to live happy and all those

  322. things. But they don't teach about sin.

  323. They don't teach about, you know, coming to salvation

  324. through Jesus Christ and him being the only way to salvation.

  325. They don't teach that. They don't teach that.

  326. But we have to understand that faith doesn't come by teaching

  327. psychology. It doesn't come by teaching

  328. philosophy. Faith comes by hearing and

  329. hearing by the word of God according to Romans 10 and 17.

  330. Now I have to say, I have to say I've been coming to this church

  331. now going on 13 years. We went on 13 years.

  332. I've been coming to this church. I have never once seen any man

  333. coming to this sacred desk and teach out of anything other than

  334. the Bible, men or women that teach.

  335. The women over there, they don't teach out of books.

  336. They teach out of the word of God because this is the truth.

  337. This is the power. This is what changes lives.

  338. So here at Calvary Chapel, this is what we do.

  339. That's what Ezra did. Ezra just simply, he read the

  340. scripture and he explained it. That's what Jesus did.

  341. That's what the the, the apostles did.

  342. They read the scriptures and they expound on the scriptures.

  343. That's the way it's been done and that's the way we do it

  344. here. If you're looking for something

  345. other than true doctrine, if you don't want to hear about sin, if

  346. you don't want to hear about the grace of God, if you don't want

  347. to hear about Jesus Christ being the only way, then this is

  348. probably not going to be the church for you.

  349. If you want to hear something that's going to tickle your

  350. ears. If you want to hear something

  351. that's going to cause you to feel you know good about

  352. yourself. And you never have to look at

  353. what the Holy Spirit is doing in your spirit to get you to to

  354. obey Him or to get you to walk in a way that will allow you to

  355. live a life that is separated unto Him.

  356. If that's not what you want, then this is not going to be the

  357. place. But as long as we're here, I've

  358. always heard the Word of God line by line, chapter by

  359. chapter, book by book. And that's the way we'll

  360. continue to do it. But those who are not about

  361. that, it's going to be exposed. They're going to be exposed.

  362. Give it an opportunity to repent, but they're going to be

  363. exposed. So This is why it's so important

  364. to come and have fellowship. Hebrews tell us that we should

  365. not be forsaking and forsaking, not the assembling of ourselves

  366. together as is the matter of some, as some are doing, but we

  367. need to encourage each other, exhort each other.

  368. It's so much more as we see the day approaching, as it gets

  369. closer to God, we need to be exhorting each other even more,

  370. coming together, encouraging each other.

  371. Jews says that we got to contend for the faith, which was once

  372. for all one time it was given. There's no new revelation on the

  373. faith. One time it was given for all,

  374. delivered to the Saints. So even as in these perilous

  375. times, we still have hope in these last and evil days, we

  376. still have hope. And the hope that we have is in

  377. Jesus Christ. He is where we are.

  378. We we can hide in Jesus Christ. I have a Psalm that I just want

  379. to end with, and it's Psalm 3. It kind of truly talks about how

  380. we have to deal with perilous times.

  381. This was David dealing with his perilous times.

  382. He says, Lord, how they have increased.

  383. Who trouble me? Many are they who rise up

  384. against me. Many are they who say of me,

  385. there is no help for him in God. Now, if it ended there, that

  386. would be a sad story. If that was the end of the

  387. story, that would be a sad story.

  388. But it doesn't, he says. But you, O Lord, are a shield

  389. for me. You're my glory.

  390. You're the one who lifts up my head.

  391. I cried to the Lord with my voice.

  392. He heard me from his holy heel. In fact, even in the midst of

  393. all the perilous times that David was going through, even in

  394. the midst of all the people who were seeking to take his life as

  395. he was running for his very life, he was able to say, I laid

  396. down and went to sleep. That's the piece that brother

  397. had. He laid down and went to sleep.

  398. And even in our perilous times, when we have the peace of God

  399. with us, in US and for us, we will be able to lie down and

  400. sleep, he says. I woke up, for I didn't sustain

  401. myself. It wasn't the people around me

  402. that sustained me, but the Lord sustained me.

  403. I will not be afraid of 10 thousands of people who set

  404. themselves against me all around.

  405. And then he says, arise, O Lord, save me, Oh my God, for you have

  406. struck all my enemies on the cheekbone.

  407. You have broken the teeth of the ungodly savage beast.

  408. Men who are people who are untamed animals that are

  409. untamed, their strength is in their teeth.

  410. That's what we fear. We fear the teeth of wild

  411. animals. And yet the Lord broke their

  412. teeth, cause them to be harmless, defenseless.

  413. He broke their teeth. Salvation belongs to the Lord.

  414. Your blessing is upon the people.

  415. We have a hope, and thank God we do.

  416. And that hope that we have is in Jesus Christ and Him alone.

  417. He came so that we would have hope.

  418. He came to bless us. He came to take for us and to do

  419. for us what we couldn't do for ourselves.

  420. You've been listening to Pastor Louis Harrell here on Living

  421. Waters of Grace. We're digging into all that Paul

  422. shared with Timothy in the books of First and Second Timothy.

  423. Timothy was commissioned to do the following fight the good

  424. fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were

  425. also called, and have confessed the good confession in the

  426. presence of many witnesses. Timothy would be carrying on

  427. what Paul had taught him and continuing on in ministry, even

  428. though Paul knew that more hardships would come for

  429. Timothy. This is the Christian life.

  430. It's not glamorous. It's not some celebrity status.

  431. It's hard fought. It's gritty, it's unpopular, but

  432. it's worth it. Do you believe that today?

  433. Are you willing to fight the good fight even at the cost of

  434. earthly pleasures? Living the life of a follower of

  435. Jesus will have its heavenly rewards.
