  1. Welcome to the Movement Church Podcast. We want you to know that God is

  2. for you and so are we. You're about to hear a sermon from one

  3. of our weekend services in Palmer Lake, Colorado. We pray that your faith

  4. is provoked, your mind is renewed, and your heart is awakened as you

  5. engage the Word of God. Stay tuned back from the message for ways to

  6. get connected with us. God bless you. Thanks for tuning in. Well,

  7. good morning everybody. Good to see y'all. We got an extra hour

  8. of sleep and it's a bye week for the Broncos, so we got a

  9. full house. It's pretty exciting. It's good to see y'all. I'm Richie

  10. Fike. I'm the pastor here and it's a good day to be in the

  11. House of the Lord. To talk a little bit about strength today. And

  12. before we do that, I want us to read our scripture. So we're

  13. going to be an Ephesians three fourteen through twenty one. So if you have

  14. a Bible, open it up. If you've got a device you can fire

  15. it up, or if you have eyeballs, we've got a big old TV

  16. up here. You can look up on the screen I'll be in the NLT

  17. Okay. So this is Ephesians three, verses fourteen through twenty one says this,

  18. when I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray

  19. to the Father, the creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I

  20. pray that from his glorious unlimited resources, he will empower you with inner strength

  21. through his spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts. As

  22. you trust in Him, your roots will grow down into God's love and keep

  23. you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's

  24. people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep

  25. His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is

  26. too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the

  27. fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now, all glory to

  28. God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,

  29. to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him into

  30. Church and in Christ Jesus, through all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

  31. This is the word of the Lord. So we're in this book called

  32. Ephesians, and we've been talking a lot about you know, Paul writing this

  33. letter to the Ephesians from a prison cell. And so today I want to

  34. tell you just a little bit about power and strength and wellness. And there's

  35. no place in Colorado Springs that is more interested in power and strength and wellness

  36. than Lifetime Fitness. I am a member of Lifetime Fitness. I mean,

  37. just look at this place. It is screaming out power and strength and wellness.

  38. Now, if you've ever been to Lifetime Fitness, you might know that

  39. the bottom level of Lifetime Fitness is very like low level of maintenance, low,

  40. low level of commitment. Like bottom level is basketball and tennis. That's

  41. my world. There's a pool on the bottom level, there's locker rooms,

  42. there's a spa, there's you know, a hot tub and a sauna.

  43. Really low level of commitment. Now the top level, like upstairs, you

  44. got to go upstairs to the top level of Lifetime Fitness. There's things happening

  45. upstairs at Lifetime Fitness that I'm afraid of. There's things happening up there that

  46. honestly, when I go up there, I'm really like intimidated by it.

  47. Like there's people up there that freak me out. Like everybody always looks like

  48. this, They're always happy and sunny and fit, and they just they just

  49. look they look happy that they're so fit and they're fit because they're so happy,

  50. and I don't like them. And you know, there's people with they're

  51. just doing exercises all the time, and this guy's given out high fives and

  52. sweaty all the time, and there's people doing planks and stuff, and I'm

  53. just like, I'm just up here to just get on the elliptical because I

  54. have a tennis match. That's the only reason I came up here. And

  55. I just tried not to make eye contact with anybody. And so, you

  56. know, but I you know, personally for me, Richie fikeer pastor with

  57. fitness and weight has been kind of a lifelong issue for me. You know,

  58. fitness has been a problem in my family. You know, butts are

  59. big in the Fight family. We you know, we we're large. We're

  60. large in the Fiight family. And so you know, this is me about

  61. fifteen years ago when and no I didn't blow the picture up. That's life

  62. size. That's I was. I was three oh seven in this picture.

  63. That was fifteen years ago, and so I worked really hard to get down

  64. to two thirty five that was the lowest I'd ever weighed. And when I

  65. moved to Baton Rouge from Colorado at two thirty five, do you know what

  66. my friends in Louisiana said to me. They said, boy, you're skinny.

  67. You need to eat something. Boy, they don't feed you in Colorado.

  68. What's wrong with those people? And so I gained a lot of weight

  69. when I moved back to Baton Rouge. But so, you know, anyway,

  70. I say all that to say that in America, specifically in America,

  71. fitness and strength and health is a big, big deal. It's something we

  72. think a lot about. In fact, according to the Global Wellness Institute,

  73. America ranks number one in the world in spending in the physical activity market.

  74. In twenty twenty two, Americans checked this out. We spent two hundred and

  75. sixty four point six billion with a bee on physical activity. The GWI also

  76. reported that Americans ranked twentieth in the nation in physical fitness and all the other

  77. nations. So there's a great hunger in our culture for power and fitness and

  78. wellness and strength, and we're willing to pay for it, but it's not

  79. really making a difference in the country. They said this While physical activity is

  80. a massive two hundred and sixty four billion dollar commercial segment in the US,

  81. there is a major disconnect sedentary lives, obesity, and chronic disease are escalating

  82. right alongside the fitness market's explosive growth. In fact, the US ranks twentieth

  83. in physical activity participation fifty eight percent, significantly behind leaders like number one Australia,

  84. number two Taiwan, number three Norway, and number four New Zealand,

  85. where participation ranks in the eighty percentiles. So Americans are spending tons of money

  86. on physical fitness, wellness, health strength. But we're spending all this money,

  87. but we're still not measuring up to other countries that are living that way.

  88. Now again, I'm from Louisiana. So in Louisiana, we fry our

  89. fried foods like we don't like, we don't really care that much about physical

  90. fitness. There are people that you see with six packs abs, and we're

  91. like, what happened to you? Are you okay? Are they're not feeding

  92. you? Like? You know? So, Like I looked it up,

  93. Louisiana is number forty one in the in the country. We're the forty first

  94. healthiest state. So you know, Mississippi's doing worst, and so we're proud

  95. of that. We live in Colorado. Where do you think Colorado ranks?

  96. You're all wrong. Colorado is the number one healthiest state in the country.

  97. Colorado is the number one. Now, if you were to look up Colorado

  98. cuisine, what is Colorado cuisine known for? A Maria? This church?

  99. John John said foot For the podcast listeners, John Wilson said, marijuana.

  100. Now, this is what Colorado's like to eat. I don't understand you people.

  101. You like to eat granola like it's wood. Why do you want to

  102. eat wood? I don't understand you people. Berries? You like berries?

  103. Right? Elk meat is huge on the list of Colorado. And you know

  104. man cannot live without a taco truck. That's Colorado, right, No,

  105. Colorado is the number one fittest state in America. Highest rate of physical activity,

  106. lowest rate of adult obesity, lowest rate of adult diabetes, Over four

  107. hundred fitness centers in the state of Colorado, number one in America, and

  108. fifty eight fourteen ers, fourteen thousand foot or whatever it is mountains to some,

  109. but I don't know what it is. Our guy Britt back here in

  110. the back. You've climbed all fifty eight, is that right? And on

  111. a newly reconstructed knee just recently climbed to fourteen or isn't that right? Give

  112. it up for britt my Man's amazement. Yeah. So in Colorado, physical

  113. fitness deeply matters to the people of Colorado. But there's something that's happening in

  114. America and in the world, but specifically in America, beyond just physical fitness

  115. that's becoming really important. There's a different kind of strength, a different kind

  116. of wellness that we're all really interested in, and that is mental strength.

  117. Mental strength, Now, mental strength is the cognitive and emotional skill of reframing

  118. negative thoughts and adverse circumstances. Being mentally strong or mentally tough helps us resist

  119. both internal and external influences that weaken our self confidence and well being. Last

  120. year, twenty twenty two, the number one Google search in the world,

  121. of the top ten Google searches, the number one was how can I get

  122. mentally strong? This is what across the world. This was the number one

  123. thing that was googled last year. So in our culture, in our world,

  124. there's this hunger for physical strength. There is a hunger for mental strength.

  125. There's a great longing in our culture for strength, and when anybody that

  126. we see conveys any kind of strength of any sort, we are drawn to

  127. them. Whether it be a politician or someone from pop culture, or some

  128. preacher or some talk show host that conveys a sense of inner strength, we

  129. are drawn to them. When I watch football, I always like to watch

  130. the game about an hour and a half after it starts because I hate commercials.

  131. So I'm a DBR guy, so IDBR and I just wait an hour

  132. and a half so I can skip through the commercials. Night for the LSU

  133. Alabama game, I went over to Chico's house and he doesn't have DBR,

  134. so we watched it live. And I was amazed at the commercials last night.

  135. Honestly, I couldn't believe how many different ways they were able to fit

  136. Deon Sanders and Nick Saban into the commercials. There were like eleven different ways

  137. that they fit these two guys into commercials. Why, Because these two men

  138. exhibit inner strength, and so whatever they have, we're willing to listen to

  139. them to sell us whatever they want to sell us, because they possess inner

  140. strength, So whatever they have, it must be good for me. This

  141. is the way the world works. And yes, my tiger's loss, and

  142. yes I'm okay because the nuggets are five and one. Okay, So the

  143. world, the world would have us pursue physical, emotional, mental, social,

  144. political strength, but all of those pursuits will only serve to distract us

  145. from the only strength that matters. And if you're taking notes today, that's

  146. the phrase that I would have you write down. There is a strength and

  147. it is the only strength that matters. And that's what we're going to talk

  148. about today. And listen, strength matters. Being strong matters, especially in

  149. this crazy life. Because life is difficult. I have never given you a

  150. phrase in the history of my preaching that was more ready for you to say

  151. amen to than this one right here. Because life on earth is difficult and

  152. your line is amen. I've never said anything truer except for Jesus as Lord.

  153. And your line is okay. You should be more vociferous about that line.

  154. But life on earth is difficult, and everybody in this room carried in

  155. with them a different kind of difficult. There are middle schoolers in this room

  156. right now. Let me tell you that is a different kind of difficult than

  157. my kind of difficult, and it's difficult. Come on, if you've been

  158. through middle school, can you say amen to that? There are parents of

  159. middle schoolers in this room, and that is a different kind of difficult.

  160. Okay, so you got louder. You see right, everybody brought into this

  161. room their own kind of difficult, and every kind of difficult is going to

  162. require a certain kind of strength. And it's a kind of strength that lifetime

  163. fitness can't offer you. It's a kind of strength that Google can't offer you.

  164. It's the kind of strength that mental strength, mental wellness is not going

  165. to offer you. There is a strength, and it's the only strength that

  166. matters. And especially this happens whenever you decide that you're going to follow Jesus.

  167. Because the moment that you declare war on the enemy, the moment that

  168. you say I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning

  169. back. See, because before you said that you were participating with the Prince

  170. and the power of the air, and he was cool with you. The

  171. moment that you decided that you were going to follow Jesus, now you have

  172. an enemy in the enemy, and that's a problem because now you're difficult.

  173. It just became compounded, and you're going to need a different kind of strength.

  174. When you had a friend in the enemy, you only thought life was

  175. hard. Now that you've declared war on him, you're going to need a

  176. different kind of strength. So today we're going to talk about the only strength

  177. that matters you. Ready, all right, So Paul says in Ephesians three,

  178. he says, when I think of all this, I fall on my

  179. knees and I pray to the Father. Now this is going to require some

  180. backstory. When I think of all this, what's the all this that he's

  181. talking about? So we're picking up in Ephesians three fourteen. He's talked from

  182. Ephesians Ie through Ephesians three thirteen. He's talked about this incredible, beautiful theology.

  183. Ephesians is like this beautiful, comprehensive, amazing, dense, theologically beautiful

  184. package of here is what the gospel is. It's amazing. If you really

  185. want to understand just the dense, beautiful theology of Jesus Christ, Ephesians has

  186. it for you. And he's laid it out for us in one through three.

  187. So go listen to the podcast and check it out right, or go

  188. back and read it for yourself. But what he has spelled out for us

  189. in the verses leading up to this moment is he spelled out for us his

  190. particular part in the puzzle, which is that Paul grew up the child of

  191. a Pharisee. He grew up the child of a very lawkeeping, law abiding,

  192. law enforcing Pharisee who told him that anybody who wasn't who wasn't a Jew,

  193. was not to be touched, not to be talked to. They were

  194. unclean in every way. And now Paul has become the one who is speaking

  195. to all the Jews and saying you are welcome in the Kingdom of God.

  196. And Paul is blown away by all of it. Look at this. In

  197. Ephesians three seven through ten, he says this, of this gospel, I

  198. was made a minister. Paul is blown away that he was made a minister.

  199. He's like, I'm as surprised as you are. I was made a

  200. minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the

  201. working of his power. It's not about me, It's about him, he

  202. says to me. Though I am the very least of all the saints.

  203. This grace was given to preach to the gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

  204. And I just love that phrase, the unsearchable riches of Christ. He's saying

  205. that you could plummet to the deepest depths of who God is. You could

  206. go as far down, as wide, as high as you could get,

  207. and you will never come to the end of the riches of who God is.

  208. He is unsearchable. And you ought to say, amen, it's a

  209. great, great truth. Verse nine, he says, and to bring to

  210. light for everyone, not just the Jews, but for everyone. What is

  211. the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things?

  212. So that through the Church, the manifold wisdom of God might now be

  213. made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. What Paul's saying

  214. is, guys, it's amazing. It's all happening. It's all happening right

  215. now. It's all happening. Everything that we've all wondered about. How is

  216. it going to happen? How is this Messiah thing going to work out?

  217. It's all happening. This is crazy, it's incredible. He's saying that all

  218. of the supposition and questioning and wondering and hypothesizing about the work of Messiah and

  219. what the promise actually meant, it's all been laid to rest. It's all

  220. happening. He's saying that there are angels in heaven that were wondering how's this

  221. all going to work, and now they are seeing for themselves exactly how it's

  222. all going to happen. And it's going to happen through us, through the

  223. Church. He's saying, it's all happening. It's amazing. And when I

  224. think of all this, I fall to my knees. I fall to my

  225. knees and I pray to the Father. So how do we access the only

  226. strength that matters? Now, I'm not a weightlifter, but I have some

  227. friends that are. I don't work for a moving company, but my dad

  228. did for a long time, and I have helped a lot of people move

  229. their things from their homes into you know, big boxes or into moving bands.

  230. And they will all tell you the same thing that when you lift,

  231. what do you lift with you lift what you lift from your from your knees,

  232. how do you access the only strength that matters? Lift from your knees.

  233. You know that song we sing, that Phil Wickhams song. So when

  234. I fight, I fight on my knees. Have you ever thought about how

  235. ridiculous that phrase is? Like? Can you imagine if you're watching a UFC

  236. fight, have you ever thought about this? Like Okay, ding ding dang?

  237. Round one? This guy is lining up to fight. The other guy

  238. goes, okay, let me just get down on my knees, and he

  239. just with my hands lifted high, he gets down on his knees before his

  240. opponent. What would happen one quick blow? This dude's done right? Sorry,

  241. I do I mean to go to that slide? When I fight,

  242. I fight on my knees with my hands lifted high. Why Because the battle

  243. doesn't belong to me. It belongs to you God. So if you want

  244. to access the only strength that matters, you have to do exactly what Paul

  245. does. He says, When I think of all this, I fall to

  246. my knees and I pray. I pray. So my question to you is

  247. what's your prayer life looking like? How connected are you to the Lord?

  248. We live a world that is so connected, and yet we live in a

  249. world where people are so isolated. The number one thing that we are hearing

  250. about when we talk about mental health in this culture is isolationism. How in

  251. the world can anyone in twenty twenty three claim to feel isolated when we have

  252. cell phones where we can text anybody we want, when we can actually,

  253. by the way, teenagers, the phone that you have in your hand actually

  254. is a phone. Did you know that you can call people on it.

  255. You can talk to people on the view. You could say, call mom.

  256. You can do that and then she'll pick up and you'll hear her voice,

  257. and then she'll hear your voice and you can talk to her. Okay,

  258. all right, Or you could face time, right, you can see

  259. her face, see their face, or you could get on social media and

  260. do the DM thing. I'm not into all that, but you could do

  261. that. Last night, this was hilarious. I wish Hannah was here so

  262. I could embarrass her. But last night at Chico's house, Hannah, they

  263. have this app. I don't know what's the name of the app that you

  264. guys have that where you're tracking Hannah's every move. What's it called? Is

  265. it Live three sixty? Yeah? So they have this app where like,

  266. so we're sitting there waiting for Hannah to get to the house, and she

  267. was working, and Chico had cooked fajitas, which were delicious. By the

  268. way, you should have these fajitas. But Hannah stopped at McDonald's for some

  269. reason, and Joy goes, why is she at McDonald's. I was like,

  270. what's going on? She got and so she called Hannah, why are

  271. you at McDonald's right now? And Hannah picked up the phone. She's like,

  272. I wanted to make flurry let me alone, right But anyway, So

  273. we have all of these ways to be connected with each other, right,

  274. we can be connected, and yet we're so isolated. I was. I'm

  275. the type of person that in my prayer life for a long, long,

  276. long long time, the way I would connect to God is first thing in

  277. the morning, I would get up, I'd read a little bit of the

  278. Bible. You know, you can be as rigid about your Bible reading as

  279. you want to be. For me, I read the Bible until the Lord

  280. speaks something to me. Maybe that takes two or three verses, maybe that

  281. takes two or three chapters. I just read until I feel like He spoke

  282. to me. That's that's my ritual. So that's what I do. So

  283. I read, he speaks to me, I write a little journal thing,

  284. I pray, and then for me, it's like, okay, I'm going

  285. about my day and I'll talk to you tomorrow. Lord. Like that was

  286. for a long time. That was how my life and my connection with God

  287. was. And then I was watching an LSU football game, Barry, I

  288. know you can't believe this. I was watching an l S football game and

  289. the Lord spoke to me. I know that never happens to you when you're

  290. watching the Alabama roll Tide. But when I was watching LA football game and

  291. we got this new offensive coordinator, and they had this structure with this team

  292. with this new offensive coordinator where he would call the play. They would huddle,

  293. then they would come up to the line and they would line up like

  294. they were going to run the play right, and they would get real tense,

  295. real tight, like they were going to run the play, and they're

  296. looking around and he's even barking out like ninety seven to two, you know,

  297. he's like calling out the calls. And then they would all relax and

  298. they would look back to the sideline, and then the coaches and the people

  299. on the sideline were holding up all these weird cards with like Kevin Hart and

  300. like Darth Vader and like a beat symbol, you know, a Martian,

  301. and they mean things. I don't know what they mean, but they either

  302. mean that we're going to continue to run the play that we've called, or

  303. that the offensive coordinator, because he looked at what the defense did in response

  304. to how the offense lined up, is this going over your head? Are

  305. you with me? The defensive coordinator on the other side has looked at what

  306. the offense did in lining up, and the offensive coordinator is looking at how

  307. the defense lined up to the offense and is now deciding do I still like

  308. this play? So now the team is looking back to the coach and they're

  309. asking the question is this still the play you want me to run? And

  310. the Lord said to me, I wish you would do that. I wish

  311. you would do that with me. I wish you'd look back to the sideline

  312. throughout your day. I wish you'd ask me, is this still the play?

  313. Is this still the play you want me to run? Is this still

  314. what I'm thinking? I wish you'd ask me what I was thinking throughout the

  315. day. I wish you'd stay connected to me, And so I was like,

  316. I'm sorry, Lord, I'm sorry. I'll do that more often.

  317. So see, the Lord can speak through LSU football Barry Okay, Paul says,

  318. when I think of all this, I follow my knees. I don't

  319. just follow my knees, but I pray. I pray, how do you

  320. access the only strength that matters? Lift from your knees. Lift from your

  321. knees, all right. Next one, he says, I pray that from

  322. his glorious, unlimited resources, he will empower you with inner strength through his

  323. spirit. That he will empower you with inner strength through his spirit. Let

  324. me give you the point that we'll unpack it. How do we access the

  325. only strength that matters? We fight from the inside out. From the inside

  326. out. Every other kind of strength that you can access in this world is

  327. going to come to you from the outside in. Whether it be a workout

  328. regime, a self health book, a diet program, all of those resources

  329. are working their way from the outside in. God's power works from the inside

  330. out. So whatever strength of character or will, or personality or discipline that

  331. you display as a follower of Jesus will be evidence of a work that's happening

  332. inside of your soul. If you're a follower of Jesus, if you're connected

  333. to Jesus, if you're looking to the sideline throughout the course of your day

  334. and you're connected to him. When you meet somebody that's doing the same thing,

  335. can't you tell, like right away, Like when you meet somebody that's

  336. connected to Jesus, can't you go that guy right there, that guy's walkome

  337. with Jesus. That lady right there, she knows Jesus. Can't you just

  338. tell? You know why? Because the Bible says that the fruit of the

  339. spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

  340. gentleness, and self control. Against such things, there is no law.

  341. There's someone you're in the room today, I'm gonna embarrass them. Is

  342. that okay with you? Guys? Okay if I embarrass somebody. My friend

  343. Andrea, who works at Lifetime Fitness, she's here today and she works the

  344. counter at the tennis center. And when I first met Andrea, I was

  345. like, she's a believer. I just know it because the way you smiled

  346. at me, the way you spoke to me, And all I did was

  347. say, hey, I just need a court time on Wednesday, and you're

  348. like, Okay, I'll look for that. And it was the way that

  349. you say things, the way that you interact with people. There's just a

  350. sense that I could tell right away. You know that you're a follower of

  351. Jesus and that just ministers to people. Right. It's just amazing you can

  352. tell when people are connected to Jesus. The world is trying to find strength

  353. from the outside end. The only strength that matters can only be manifested from

  354. the inside out. So how do we access it from the inside out?

  355. Let's keep reading. It says, then Christ will make his home in your

  356. hearts as you trust in him. Listen to this the way he describes this.

  357. I love this. He says, your roots will grow down into God's

  358. love and keep you strong. Your roots will grow down into God's love and

  359. keep you strong. So let me give you the point and we'll talk about

  360. it. How do we access the only strength that matters? We choose to

  361. dig deep. Now I'm not a horror culturist, but I did stay at

  362. a holiday inn, so I'm going to talk you a little bit about it.

  363. Most healthy trees, most healthy trees, roots are roughly six to twelve

  364. feet long, beneath the surface of the ground. Did you know that that

  365. what we see on the top, what we see up here, most of

  366. us are attracted to, you know, a beautiful tree. I'm like the

  367. kind of person the older I get. It was so funny. We went

  368. to Phoenix a couple months ago to drop Justice off. I was fascinated by

  369. the foliage of the different trees, you know, because Phoenix is like a

  370. different planet. If you've ever gone to Phoenix, like it's like, what

  371. is this Like? The trees are totally different than here, Like Louisiana.

  372. We have oak trees here we have pine and you know, other types of

  373. trees like the beautiful trees and breckinridge that when they bloom yellow like that.

  374. I love all that stuff. I'm becoming an old man that likes trees.

  375. Okay, but we pay attention to all of the beauty on top. But

  376. really, what's happening with the tree is happening well below the surface. Six

  377. to twelve feet long. Beneath the surface. Tree roots anchor the tree in

  378. the soil, keeping it straight and stable and absorb water from the soil.

  379. So you might think that a tree is getting fed up here, like when

  380. it rains that all of that water up here is what's feeding the tree.

  381. You know, what's really happening is beneath the surface, all of the root

  382. system is holding on to that moisture and feeding the tree from the bottom up.

  383. Tree roots also take nutrients and chemicals out of the soil and use them

  384. to produce what they need for the tree's growth, development and repair. I

  385. love this. There have been trees found in remote parts of Africa with root

  386. systems as long as twenty four feet under the surface of the ground. Why

  387. am I telling you all this Because what's happening underneath the surface is what's determining

  388. the strength of the tree. I don't have to be an amazing preacher to

  389. tell you this. You probably have already jumped to this conclusion. What's happening

  390. underneath your surface is what's determining the strength of your life and the strength of

  391. your faith. Right, he says, Christ will make his home in your

  392. hearts. As you trusted him, your roots will grow down into God's love

  393. and keep you strong. What keeps a tree from blowing over when the winds

  394. come, when the rains come, when a hurricane comes, when a tornado

  395. comes, it is not the strength of the trunk, it's that root system

  396. that's holding down deep into the ground. What's going to keep your faith from

  397. blowing away in the wind when it gets difficult, when it gets hard?

  398. What's going to keep your life from being uprooted when it gets hard? It's

  399. how deep you digged into God's love, into who he is, and you

  400. have a responsibility your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong.

  401. We have to keep digging into God's love. We have to be responsible

  402. for how much we choose to do that. So how much are you digging

  403. into God's love? How much God is in your diet right? How much

  404. time are you giving to God? How much time are you giving to the

  405. things of God, to the people of God, to the disciplines of God?

  406. Is God just the thing you do on Sundays or on every other Sunday

  407. or on every third Sunday? Is God just the thing you do whenever life

  408. gets hard? Or is God a thing you're doing all the time so that

  409. when it gets hard you're ready. That's what Paul's saying. Christ will make

  410. as home in your hearts as you trust in him, and your roots will

  411. grow down deep into God's love. How do we access the only strength that

  412. matters? We choose to dig deep, and then he goes into this.

  413. This is so beautiful, he says, and may you have the power to

  414. understand as all God's people should. I love that, he says, all

  415. God's people should, because what he's saying is not all God's people do.

  416. May you have the power to understand as all God's people should, but not

  417. all God's people do? How wide, how long, how high, how

  418. deep? His love is the unsearchable riches of Christ. May you experience the

  419. love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then and

  420. you will be made complete with the fullness of life and power that comes from

  421. God. How do we access the only strength that matters? We experience the

  422. fullness of God, not just a little bit the fullness of God. Are

  423. you experiencing the fullness of God in your life? Or are you just kind

  424. of taking little pieces, little dollops, a little dabble do you? Are

  425. you just experiencing little bits of God? Or are you experiencing the fullness as

  426. all God's people should? I sent out a text a few weeks ago to

  427. the people on my text chain. That's what it said, tell me a

  428. moment or story in which you personally experienced the love of God and your life.

  429. And a bunch of you responded, and so I want to let you

  430. hear some of the stories that you told. I love these. Amy said

  431. this. She said, when I was on the fence before giving my life

  432. to Jesus Christ and Father God, I experienced God's calling one night and went

  433. outside, barefoot in the snow. I dropped to my knees and gave my

  434. life to Jesus Christ. I immediately felt the warmth of God wrapping his arms

  435. around me in his everlasting embrace. I love that this person asked to stay

  436. anonymous, they said. The day after my husband and I thought we were

  437. at the end, divorce was on the table and his ring was off.

  438. That night, we both went to work and had to pretend like it was

  439. just another day. I was shaking inside and out, but as much hurt

  440. and fear that I encountered, I had, for the first time an unwavering

  441. sense of love and protection in my heart. It felt like someone was literally

  442. hugging my heart. I had never felt anything like it. I knew it

  443. was God, and I knew he was for me and for us, restored

  444. our marriage and we're closer to him than we've ever been. Praise God.

  445. Andreas said this. For thirty five years, I was in a marriage in

  446. which my husband discouraged, resisted, and looked down upon every way that self

  447. expression was meaningful to me. My joys come from playing tennis, working out

  448. with weights or in classes, going on mission trips, and being around people.

  449. Finally, the time came to divorce and move here to Colorado Springs,

  450. God graciously allowed me to be hired by Lifetime. I'm surrounded daily by people

  451. who love what I love. My job involves interacting with other members and staff,

  452. and I'm happier than I have ever been in my life. I see

  453. God laughing and slapping his knees as he delights in my well being. He

  454. has always loved me and protected my heart through many challenging years. His love

  455. is steadfast and never fails. Amen. My buddy Bryce said, yeah,

  456. man. When I went to boot camp and there I was so scared of

  457. being homesick. I'd never been away from home or my family, and I

  458. was terrified that it would be too much. During my time at boot Camp,

  459. I leaned into Jesus like never, like I had never before, and

  460. I never once yearned for home. I always felt him near and he carried

  461. me through. Mike said this, I have a zillion. I have a

  462. zillion, but I'll describe a more recent one. A friend is a documentary

  463. director, and he brought over a DVD of a documentary he made on the

  464. music of the Jesus Movement era in the late sixties. I was working on

  465. work things in my kitchen while the DVD was playing, and the group Love

  466. Song began singing a song called Welcome Back. The song hadn't gotten through the

  467. first line when the presence of God's love enveloped me. I found myself on

  468. the floor in tears, and I believe the Lord spoke and said, this

  469. is all it takes for me to get your complete attention. And it's not

  470. that you're that you are looking for me, but I want you to know

  471. that I'm looking for you. Even writing the memory down floors me. I

  472. love that, he says, floors me because he was on the floor.

  473. Paul says, may you have the power to understand as all God's people should

  474. how wide, how long, how high, how deep His love is.

  475. May you experience the love of Christ, though it's too great to understand fully,

  476. then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power

  477. that comes from God. I think what he's saying is, guys, we

  478. need to seek to experience the fullness of God. Don't settle. Don't dip

  479. your toe in the water. You know, like cannon ball into the deep

  480. water, the deep side of the pool of God. You know you're never

  481. going to get to the bottom of it, So go for it. Good

  482. Enough isn't even close good enough. God has so much that he wants to

  483. give to you, so much that he wants to show to you. Are

  484. you taking him up on the offer? We need to experience the fullness of

  485. God. Now, this is the last section. This last verse that we're

  486. going to cover is one of my very favorite verses in the whole Bible.

  487. It's a verse that I lean on in my prayer life. It's a verse

  488. that reminds me that my prayers are too small. It's a verse that reminds

  489. me that God is limitless, and that reminds me of my humanity and of

  490. His greatness. Look at this verse twenty, it says, now all glory

  491. to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us,

  492. to accomplish infinitely more then we might ask or think. Glory to Him

  493. in the Church and in Christ Jesus, through all generations, forever and ever.

  494. Amen. Let me give you the point and we'll talk about it.

  495. How do we access the only strength that matters? Before I do that?

  496. Here's the point. Our prayers are too small, they're too safe, they're

  497. too limited. God is able to accomplish infinitely more than we ask or think.

  498. Before we have church in here. On Sundays we all gather up in

  499. a little circle back there, and this morning it was amazing. There were

  500. like six or seven different prayer requests for very real, very concerning problems.

  501. One guy's got a leg problem where he might have to have a leg amputated.

  502. We heard about someone that had a brain injury. We heard about a

  503. bunch of different problems and old an older woman named Bunny, who we are

  504. praying will bounce back right, come on, praise God. We heard about

  505. some very real things. Last week. I shared this story when I led

  506. worship, But we had a snowstorm, so a lot of you weren't here,

  507. so it's okay to repeat it. I led worship in Nashville two weeks

  508. ago, and I think stories like this are so important for us to hear

  509. because it strengthens our faith that God is still moving, that he's still healing,

  510. he's still working. So I'm leading worship at this church in Nashville.

  511. It's six am, and we're doing this like round up before we're going to

  512. practice. And this girl, her name is Kimmy, she's one of the

  513. vocalists. She's kind of amongst us. And the lady who is the MD,

  514. her name is Jordan. She says, okay, guys, we're gonna

  515. pray. So does anybody have any prayer requests this morning? Anything you want

  516. to talk about? And Kimmy says, yeah, I got one. And

  517. so we looked at Kimmy and she says, yeah, I don't want to

  518. be here, just kind of matter of fact, I don't want to be

  519. here this morning. Oh, we'll tell us more about that. Why is

  520. that? She said, Well, my husband Bo, all last week he

  521. was complaining about pain behind his right ear. He was having tightness behind his

  522. right ear. In fact, he was having a hard time hearing out of

  523. his right ear, and so we scaptled an appointment and we went in.

  524. He did an mri uh and and there was a huge tumor that was eating

  525. into his brain on the right side. Uh. And so uh, yeah,

  526. I don't want to be here. I mean, it was just like

  527. that. And so Jordan, you know, I'm a guest worship leader at

  528. this place. I'm just kind of listening. At six am, I'm still

  529. waking up. You know, it's Central time, so it's five am for

  530. me. Oh wow, okay, And so Jordan says, wow a fight.

  531. Will you pray for pray for Kimmy. I was like, say,

  532. what now, Yeah, will you pray for Kimmy? Oh yes, okay,

  533. I'll pray. So I prayed for her and I prayed what I thought

  534. was a pretty bold prayer. I prayed, Uh, Lord Jesus, you

  535. said that if we had faith the size of a mustard seed, that we

  536. could speak to the mountains and we would see those mountains move. And so

  537. if you can move a mountain, you can move a tumor. And so

  538. Lord, I ask you in the name of Jesus, that when they go

  539. to the doctor tomorrow, when they go to have an MRI, that that

  540. tumor would be gone in Jesus' name. And I meant that prayer fully.

  541. I don't know that I believe that it would happen. I mean, just

  542. to be frank with you, you know, I meant it. We pray

  543. these things, right, We pray them in boldness, and we kind of

  544. parenthesize behind our thoughts. And even if it doesn't happen, you're still good,

  545. right because we believe that. But God's going pray bigger, pray bigger,

  546. infinitely more so, I didn't think about it again. We let worship,

  547. got on a plane, came home, went about my day on Monday,

  548. and then I got a text at like two pm on Monday from Kimmy

  549. fight. You will never believe what happened. We went into the doctor.

  550. They did an MRI. The tumor is gone. Yeah, praise God.

  551. Come on, you can applaud that. She said, the same doctor that

  552. did the MRI on Friday did the MRI on Monday. And the doctor said,

  553. what did you do over the weekend? And she said, we went

  554. to church and this guy, crazy guy from Colorado prayed for us. So

  555. anyway, I'm thinking about, you know, getting a TV show and now

  556. all glory to God, who's able through his mighty power. But check this

  557. out. Through his mighty power that's at work within us, his mighty power

  558. within us. That's the piece of it that we just blow right by.

  559. And that piece of it is magic, man, That piece of it is

  560. powerful. That's the strength that matters, that the Holy Spirit is wanting to

  561. work through and in and for us. That's who he is. That's powerful

  562. man. There's a mighty power at work within us. The power, the

  563. strength, the only strength that matters is at work within us. And we're

  564. a part of the chemistry. We're a part of the equation. So how

  565. to access the only strength that matters. We participate with limitlessness. That's a

  566. hard word to spell, but it's an important word. We participate with limitlessness.

  567. Listen, God didn't save a bunch of puppets. He saved people.

  568. He saved living, breathing, animated, motivated, gifted, differentiated people.

  569. We sang a song this morning, a song called There's Never Been. The

  570. lyrics were all jacked up on the screen. That's why they were having a

  571. hard time singing with the Jeremiah the lyrics were all wrong the whole time.

  572. We love you, and I think they liked the song, but we couldn't

  573. sing with you because the lyrics were all wrong. But we love you.

  574. But but the song says, there's never been another one, there will never

  575. be another one like you, And that's true of God. But guess what

  576. else, There's never been another one and there will never be another one like

  577. you. There, look at the person next to you and just said,

  578. there's never been anyone like you. And tell the person that you didn't want

  579. to talk to and that's a very good thing. Tell them that's a very

  580. good thing. There's never been anyone like you. There's never been anybody who's

  581. had your experiences, your gift mix, your specific DNA, your talent,

  582. your propensity. There's never been another one like you. You are unique,

  583. and God wants to work in and through you. That is a powerful truth

  584. to think about it. And when you start participating with God's imagination, watch

  585. out. There is no limit to what God can do in and through and

  586. for your life. If you'll just participate with his limitlessness, it's incredible what

  587. he can do. And that is the vision, the dream, the passion

  588. of the Movement Church. We are not fascinated and amazed by someone standing on

  589. a platform preaching a sermon, someone standing on a platform and leading worship.

  590. We are much more interested in what God can do in and through your lives

  591. than what is going to happen on these platforms on Sunday mornings. You are

  592. the Movement Church, and what He's going to do through your life is what

  593. I dream about every night of my life. It's what I am giving my

  594. life for. It's what I am excited about. It's what we and our

  595. leadership team are so fired up to see what God's going to do in and

  596. through your life. These stories that you heard about, these people who experience

  597. the love of God, their job is now to share the love of God

  598. with everybody that they know, and to tell those stories with everybody that they

  599. know. That's your job too. Your job is to share what you have

  600. experienced the fullness of God with every person that you come in contact with.

  601. Because we want to see the dead come to life, the blinded, I

  602. see the lame walk, the broken heart healed, marriage is repaired, families

  603. restored, lives redeemed, and the Kingdom move on the planet and the only

  604. way to do that is to have the only strength that matters be unleashed from

  605. within the hearts of God's people. So I implore you, I would ask

  606. you lift from your knees spend more time in prayer than you have been If

  607. you would just this week, I would just challenge you. Whatever amount of

  608. time is your normal amount of time that you pray this week? Would you

  609. double it? Can you commit to doubling whatever amount of time that you spend

  610. in prayer this week? Double it? I dare you? I double dog?

  611. Triple dog? Dare you? Okay? Double it? Fight from the

  612. inside out instead of trying to find everything from outside of the Kingdom of God

  613. to make you strong. Would you allow the Holy Spirit of God to be

  614. the source that strengthens you, the source that propels you into your life?

  615. Choose to dig deep this week that picture of a tree, allow what's on

  616. top to be driven by what's happening underneath the surface, that your roots would

  617. be strong in God, experience the fullness of God. Come on, don't

  618. dip your toe in the water this week. Do a cannonball into God this

  619. week? Would you do that? And then participate this week with the limitlessness

  620. of God. I dare you to ask him for something this week, so

  621. bold and so audacious that he would surprise you with a yes, so bold

  622. and so audacious that he would say. You still haven't asked me for enough.

  623. You still aren't dreaming enough. Your imagination still hasn't gotten close to the

  624. bottom floor of what I can do. That's the strength that matters, Paul

  625. says. Man, when I think of all this, I fall to my

  626. knees and I pray to the Father. So let's do that now, Jesus,

  627. we come right now before you, and we're so grateful for a God

  628. who's still moving, God who's not finished, a God who's still after us,

  629. a God who's still pursuing, a God who's still healing, a God

  630. who's still redeeming, a God who's still saving. We're so grateful for a

  631. God who's still loving us even when we're not loving you. The Bible says

  632. that we love you because you first loved us. Thank you, Lord for

  633. your goodness, for your kindness, Thank you Lord for who you are.

  634. This week, I pray that you would encourage us to just check in with

  635. you more often than we normally do, to double to triple our prayer life,

  636. to dig deeper in our relationship with you, to choose to enter into

  637. the limitlessness of God, and to watch you surprise us with how amazing you

  638. really are. As you are at work within us. We invite you to

  639. surprise us. Holy Spirit have your way in our lives. So what's God

  640. leading you to do next? And how can we help? Would you send

  641. us an email to info at Movementchurch dot co and tell us how we can

  642. pray for you and help you take the next step in your spiritual journey.

  643. If you'd like to contribute financially to our ministry, text the amount you like

  646. media platforms, and we hope that you'll give us a follow God bless you
