We are obsessed, curious, distracted and fixated, Like an accident on the side of the road.

We can't look away.

Something or someone has our attention.

We are followers.
-
We are all following something Sports teams, political candidates, natural disasters, breaking news, financial markets, technology, trolls, famous people the list never ends.

What is your curious obsession?
-
Who or what are you following?
-
Is Jesus on your list?
-
Does he turn in and out of your thoughts?
-
Is he a consideration of who to you and what you do he should be?
-
Let your heart catch fire with what it means to be a Jesus follower.
-
Your life will never be the same.
-
Jesus changes everything, everything.
-
There is nothing in your life when you apply the blood that it does not transform and change, unless you desire it not to happen.
-
Uh-oh, got quiet on that one.

We love to proclaim the mysteries of the Bible and the promises in the Bible, but we will not submit to its authority.

All right, let's move on.

What that is is a growth track that helps you know what we believe as a church.

We now have a 10 am prayer time and a 7 pm for those who work during the day.

Prayer changes everything.

If we want to see the pouring of God out on us like we say that we do, we have to be willing to put in the work and the time that it takes and the sacrifice that he calls us to do.

So it's an awesome thing to see something that I feel in my spirit that churches need to become united, that we are not competition, and the Church of God in this district is living it out.

I believe a lot of churches.

They end up leaving out that there is actually still a hell.

There is actually consequences to the things that you choose to do.

Hell is still hot and if you don't know Jesus as your Lord and Savior or you're riding the fence.

The Bible says that if you are playing the lukewarm game, he will spew you out of his mouth.

He would rather you be cold than be pretending to be hot.

So we are right now going through a detox series.

We have went through a couple of years of loss dumpster fires of a year that are just terrible.

We have been miserable.

People have lost their jobs, people have lost loved ones.

People have felt more alone and secluded than ever because the government told us we had to.

And magically, now we don't.
-
Not going to go deep into that, but just saying and we have things in our lives that we allow to stay inside of us.
-
We allow to stay there in our minds and in our hearts.
-
And we never clean house, because when we start cleaning house we begin to see all the dirt.
-
Have you ever lived somewhere for an extended period of time?

We've only been in this house for about a year and I have moved furniture before and I'm like how did all that crap get in there?

There's dust bunnies.
-
They're still reproducing like bunnies.
-
Everywhere there's dog hair that I didn't even know was you know.
-
It's like cords will be on the floor and it just like makes a little nest.
-
What is going on?
-
This is disgusting.
-
Surely I don't live like this.
-
But it's not until you start cleaning and moving things around, getting rid of some things, that you realize how dirty you are.
-
And see, the Ten Commandments are not for you to make you feel good, like the Pharisees and Sadducees would walk around doing.
-
It's actually to shine light on your sin, to show you that you are in need of a Savior, and it's to protect you from the damage that sin does on a daily basis to your life and heart.
-
So today's title is septic thoughts, and I know septic is a strong word.
-
If you know me, my feet don't touch a floor, especially in my bathroom.
-
I'm wearing sandals at all times until I step in the tub and then I get back out right back on them.
-
Floors in bathrooms are disgusting.
-
I hate public restrooms, but I'm also cursed with having to go to the bathroom a lot.

I drink a lot of water and so I have to go into public restrooms all the time, and I travel a lot.

I am the worst traveler.

If you want to go on a trip and you want to make it there fast, do not take me.

Every hour on the hour I have to stop and go.

I don't know if it's like.

I'm just scared that if I see a gas station and we pass it, when we see the next one, I don't know, I have a problem.

So the word septic to me is disgusting.
-
It is the nastiest thing that I could think of to call it.
-
It's like I saw a video on Instagram.
-
All right, there was someone in a porta potty and it got tipped over while they were in it.
-
They didn't die, not in the video, at least.
-
They got out.
-
There was like blue on half of them and then other.
-
Now that you've got that sunk into your memory, I want you to view your toxic thoughts in the same way.
-
We trap ourselves inside of boxes of emotion.

We have imposter syndrome to where we don't feel like God.

God should never bless me, I'm never going to be good enough, and these become the box and the devil just comes and tips it over.

Septic thoughts.

Have you ever been in a place in your life Let me get a little more specific have you been ever in a place in your mind to where you get lost in your own thoughts?
-
You lay at bed at night and you think of all the stuff.
-
It may be something like a to-do list that you didn't do during the day and now you're thinking the next day because you know it's going to carry on and you have to get it done.
-
Maybe it's you're laying next to somebody who you don't love anymore and you're crying yourself to sleep because you don't know how you're going to wake up tomorrow and say I love you and really mean it.
-
Or maybe you dread going to a job or maybe you lost a job.
-
Right now times are weird A manager at Panda Express.

They have it advertised for like $70,000 a year.
-
I'm like I'm going to go get a job.
-
Weird stuff.
-
Everything is so crazy right now we can get lost inside of our own head.
-
Something so insignificant can ruin our day because we get lost in our thoughts, something that shouldn't really make our day bad or shouldn't rule our minds, and we allow it to infiltrate us or the little whispers in our ear from the enemy.

You're never going to be good enough.
-
They know what you did.
-
People really see through your fake and we get lost in our head.
-
And when I was a kid, I had this little neighbor and her name was Holly and she was one of those that was like I'm pretty sure when she was born, the term drama queen was put in the dictionary and she was next to it.

If she saw someone talking, anybody was talking around her.

I know y'all talking about me.

What are you talking about, you crazy woman?

I know you're talking about me All the time.

All the time she would see something and before she would even say anything, she already had it twisted in her mind.

That truth was twisted.

I want to call this septic thoughts.
-
Always, always, always, septic thoughts leads to stinking thinking.
-
It stinks, it can ruin your whole day.
-
It can ruin relationships.
-
If you're still single, it may be you.
-
What if you're sabotaging?
-
Listen, I am number one to do this when I feel like I am in a bad spot emotionally, mentally, physically and all these things they're connected.
-
I feel like I sabotage relationships, like when I was alone before I met my amazing, perfect woman that God gave to me and blinded her so that she would say yes, would say yes Every single relationship that was with another lady.
-
I would automatically start thinking and waves of past stuff would come to me, that they're going to treat me just like this, that if this person over here didn't want me, why would this person over here want me?
-
Now I was creating this own narrative in my mind that wasn't even facts.
-
It was based on no facts.
-
Other people in your life can be stupid and you will wear it as your own identity and sabotage everything you come into.
-
It can mess with your jobs, even begin to plant seeds for future ways that you think.
-
I call this toxic fruit.
-
So if you're taking notes, write this down Thought is the sculptor who can create the person that you want to be.

I'll say it again Thought is the sculptor that can create the person that you want to be.

It also can create the person you don't want to be.

Sometimes, getting lost in your headspace is our biggest enemy.
-
I have had to and it sounds weird.
-
I have had to dumb down my thinking so that I don't put so much stock in things, because if I don't, I will sit there and overthink and overanalyze.

I have told you this before.
-
I think I have had fights when we first got married Because she would do something that hinted a little bit of how I was treated before.
-
She didn't know she wasn't meaning it that way, but it was just a small little glimpse into my past of how I was treated and I would have arguments with her defending myself and what she was going to say, and then, oh well, I'm going to say this and all this other stuff back and forth, and nothing ever even happened.

The fight never even happened.
-
After I worked it out in my head, I'm like I am being stupid, I would overanalyze and overthink and I was creating distance between her and I when she was a victim to what I was doing to both of us.

It was me, it was in my mind.
-
You will respond more negatively in social situations if you don't get out of your own headspace.
-
If you think people don't like you, you'll automatically assume that everyone doesn't like you.
-
You will respond negatively in every situation.
-
If you always think negatively, if you think people are out to get you, you will constantly and always be on the defense in every situation.
-
If you think you can never find love, I'm always going to be single.
-
I have been there and god brought me exactly what I needed in the time that I was able to get past a lot of things that I was still holding on to.
-
If you think you'll never find love, you will be sickened and envious of everyone who is in a healthy relationship.
-
If they are happy, they're stupid.
-
They don't get it.
-
Love is for morons and you'll convince yourself of this and then it becomes your negative thinking and you distance yourself further away from love.

It's like when someone offends you and you're going to show them and never talk to them again and they have no clue.

It even happened.

It's hurting you, not them.

When I was in high school, I loved Spanish class.
-
Like Spanish was my thing and I'm just, I'm going to say this it's funny, my wife's going to get me later but my parents were surprised.
-
I married a white woman.
-
I loved Spanish, I loved the class, I would study, I would do all the courses and I would take my test.
-
But I had a problem is that when I would try to and I would go to Spanish-speaking countries Argentina, el Salvador.
-
Twice I went to Mexico City, san Luis, mexico.

I loved going to Spanish-speaking countries Mexico City, san Luis, mexico.

I love going to Spanish-speaking countries.

I love the Spanish culture.
-
They're big time on family we could take some notes.
-
They're big time on sticking together and backing those that are in their family and a part of their inner circle.

And you go into a different culture.
-
You're like, wow, this is awesome.
-
Like they would have church services, like I remember we went to this I think it was Argentina and this church service.
-
They had a choir up there, you know, they had the robes and stuff.
-
They were, you know, Espanol stuff, you know.
-
And this young Hispanic guy came out and he started rapping in Spanish during the worship and you know we were all teenagers like, oh no, he didn't.
-
You know we're all like we're digging it and all the parents they're kind of like, you know, praise Jesus, but like the young kids are down in the front, they're just having a blast worshiping God.
-
And the culture is a little different.
-
They're very outspoken.
-
If you learn Spanish, you know that the way we speak in English is not the way you speak it in Spanish.
-
Things are flipped.
-
I don't remember exactly how it is, but I've been talking to somebody about translating.
-
So, because we live in East Texas, in case y'all don't know, there's Spanish people everywhere and we should be doing our due diligence to reach out to them and get the gospel to them too.
-
I think we get all nice and happy in our church and we forget to reach out to the people who need Jesus too.

Come on.

So I've got the hallelujah corner over here, and so one of the things in my mind after learning Spanish, I could take the test.

I love the culture, I love the people.
-
I remember there was this guy, bobby Montablo, and he was one of my first friends when I moved to Texas in seventh grade and I remember taking him back to my room and kneeling him down at my.
-
I have no clue where he is now, but kneeling him down because I told him that he needs a savior.
-
He had never heard that someone loved and cared for him in that kind of way.
-
And he knew Spanish.
-
And I have another one of my best friends we still are friends to this day Julian.
-
He may be watching, but he would speak Spanish back and forth with his mom and dad and I was like, oh my gosh, I wish I could do that.
-
And then he would speak English to him.
-
His dad could understand English, but and then he would speak English to him.
-
His dad could understand English, but he couldn't speak it.
-
And I was like, man, that's so cool.
-
How do you do your mind like that?
-
What I couldn't comprehend is that I would keep trying to think in English and then I would go through my mind hearing in Spanish what they would say, hearing it translating to English and then translating it back to Spanish and then try to speak it.

I was Google Translate before they even had it and this whole process.

You can imagine how long and tiring of a process to have a short conversation asking where's the baño at the problem was.
-
I kept thinking my old thinking ways and I wasn't thinking in Spanish.
-
I found a breakthrough when I stopped listening through an English filter and I stopped thinking through my English filter and I started thinking in terms of Spanish.
-
And when I started thinking this way, when I changed I'm trying to bring it home when I changed the way that I would think life got a lot easier and more simple.
-
If you've ever tried to speak a language before and start a new language, you probably experienced this.
-
The way you grew up is the way that you translate in your mind.
-
Some of you grew up not believing that you're loved.
-
Some of you grew up thinking that you had to dress a certain way to even be allowed in church.
-
Did I hit a nerve on that one?
-
Some of you think that you have to praise a certain way or God's only moving in a certain way because he did it like that over here.
-
Let me tell you something If you always think the way that you've always thought, you will always get the things that you've thought about.
-
Do that make sense?
-
If you keep on the same path, you're never gonna find a new journey.
-
If you keep doing the same things over and over again, if you keep allowing your thoughts to be infiltrated, if you keep allowing lust to infiltrate your mind, you're always going to fall into porn.
-
If you keep allowing the influences in your life that do not know god into your inner circle, you will end up falling every time.
-
You have to cut those ties and start to renew your mind and find a new way of thinking.
-
You have to change the way you think.
-
If not, your facts get jumbled, your truth gets faded.
-
It's the biggest trick of the enemy.
-
We see it right now on every commercial.
-
There's homosexuality.
-
They are trying to convince us that you can choose and decide your gender.
-
Probably going to get kicked out of Facebook for that one.
-
Lock me up.
-
Truth is still truth, no matter what our feelings are towards it.
-
What they're trying to do is get you to bend and yield to truths and then later they can say that same thing about the word of God.
-
If they can bend something so blatant and so obvious, what more can they do to twist the truth of the word of God?
-
I believe it's a decisive attack of the enemy to get us to where we are just so numb to sin that we allow it in our churches and we don't stand up against it.
-
We can easily get stuck in an old way of thinking and we will plummet and spiral in confusion and frustration.
-
When I would try to speak Spanish, I would get so confused and so lost in what was going on.
-
But when I stopped listening and filtering it through the old way of thinking and started thinking in a new way, I got to where I would go on missions trips and I wasn't fluent in speaking it, but I could hear it and know exactly what I was translating for the group.

I knew what they were saying because I stopped thinking in the way I was thinking and I started having a new way of thinking.

If you have your Bible, go to Proverbs, chapter four, verse 23.

And verse 23, it says says this you must carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.
-
Your thoughts eventually will become your words, and words also speak life and they also bring death.
-
It starts in your thoughts.
-
I'm going to list some ways of thinking that I personally have struggled with, and maybe you have too, and if any of these resonate inside of you today, you need to start really thinking about the different ways that you've been thinking wrong.

I'm no good, I'll always fail, I'll never amount to anything, my life doesn't matter.
-
No one really cares.
-
I'm even alive.
-
I've been there.
-
If I disappeared, no one would even notice.
-
No matter how hard I try, I can't get through this pain.
-
I'll always have to carry this hurt.
-
God could never love me after all I've done.
-
Why would he?
-
I have no worth.
-
My life stink.
-
I'll never catch a break.
-
There's no way I can turn my life around.
-
Or maybe you think I have to take care of myself.
-
No one else comes through for me.
-
I got to handle this and take all I can while I'm here.
-
Any one of these thoughts are deadly and poison to your spirit.
-
Once you start allowing just one of these thoughts, just one negative thought, into your mind, it will take root and it will start bearing the fruit of toxic waste.
-
If we want to break free from septic thoughts and toxic behaviors, we have to replace the lies that we ingest every single day and replace it with God's truth, not man's truth.

I've heard so many celebrities.
-
Well, my truth Shut up.
-
Your truth is a lie If it does not measure up and compare rightly so with God's word.
-
It is not true.
-
It bears no weight.
-
Then and only can we truly diagnose the problem.
-
So here's a fact you can't overcome issues of sin or stinking thinking if you do not define the problem.
-
If you don't define, you cannot defend.
-
You have to understand the battle that you are fighting so that you can fight properly with the right tools God has available for you.
-
In 2 Corinthians 10, 4 through 5, it says we use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
-
We demolish arguments and every pretension or claim that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

This is the key here.
-
You must take every thought captive.
-
You cannot leave any loose little thoughts because you think it's harmless.
-
It's oftentimes the small things that end up growing into big monsters later.
-
Every thought if you let one little idle thought stay alive, it will poison your soul.
-
The Greek root word translated as strongholds here is achiroma.
-
As a noun it can be translated as castle and a verb to fortify.
-
But Paul's literal translation and the way that he uses it here is prisoner, locked by deception.
-
If you're allowing these thoughts to run your mind, you have become a prisoner to yourself.
-
You will be trapped and prisoned inside of your own mind, going round and around and around God.
-
Why don't you free me, god?
-
Why not this, why not that?
-
God?
-
Please move this mountain.
-
Well, guess what?
-
Y'all need to start climbing.
-
Sometimes God doesn't move the mountain, but he gives you the tools to climb it.
-

Yet you know me, lord, you see me and test my thoughts about you.
-
Then he gets really.
-
He says drag them off like sheep to be butchered, set them apart for the day of slaughter.
-
God is a gentleman and he won't set you free from the septic thoughts until you leave it in his hands.
-
You have to be willing the toxic behaviors that we're talking about, the toxic thoughts that you allow to run in your head.
-
You have to be willing to let those things go.
-
He won't set you free until you release it into his hands, not only letting those thoughts go, but allowing the Holy Spirit to wash you clean.
-
You can get rid of furniture in your house, but even after you move things out, you still got a floor to clean.
-
The same thing with our thoughts.
-
You want to get rid of thoughts.
-
You want to get these things out of your mind.
-
You may have to remove yourself from relationships.
-
You may have to remove yourself from some conversations that get you riled up and make you want to fight and curse.
-
You're acting like y'all don't curse I know some of y'all do but why?
-
We're allowing the enemy to manipulate our minds into conversations and having things come out of our mouths that otherwise is not godly and not honoring him.
-
We have to let it go and be who he wants us to be.
-
We have allowed these things to take root in our hearts and in our minds and then we ask God for freedom, but we're not willing to clean out our garden.
-
So how do we let the Holy Spirit clean us?
-
The only way to become truly clean is washing your mind in the Word of God.
-
You cannot do it on your own accord.
-
You cannot do it with repeating a mantra or repeating a prayer and all this other stuff.
-
Oh Lord, this blah, blah, blah Hail Mary.
-
Blah, blah, blah.
-
You know you can't do that and become clean.
-
You have to be ingesting the word of God inside of you and it will begin to do its cleaning work and this will replace the current thoughts.
-
This will replace the current toxins with new, fresh life from the word of God, because it is alive and it is active.
-
Ephesians 5, 25 through 27.
-
It says husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church without stain and without wrinkle or with any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

It is time for the church to come back to a place of holiness and being blameless before an almighty God, and we have to get out the sin.
-
Don't come to church thinking that because you come to a building that you now have been good and you are God of grace for the rest of the week.
-
It doesn't matter if you say a prayer and repeat after me at the end of service.
-
The lifestyle and giving your heart to God is what matters the doing, the applying of the word, and you cannot apply if you are not ingesting.
-
The word cleanses all impurities and it cleanses all toxins.
-
What did Jesus do before he actually started his ministry?
-
He fasted and he prayed.
-
But what happened in the time of the greatest fasting period of his life?
-
He was tested.
-
When you're trying to do what God has called you to do, when you're trying to walk the straight and narrow.
-
The devil is going to come at you and try to tempt you.
-
He'll tempt you with money.
-
He'll tempt you with relationships.
-
He'll tempt you with maybe feeling like it's good at home now.
-
Everything's going great.
-
And so you slack him back up from what God's really trying to do and you stop pursuing him.
-
And then he comes at you and you don't have the word inside of you to defend his confusion against you.
-
Because when you have the word alive and active in your spirit, you know when truth is presented and when false is presented.
-
Colossians 3, 2, it says set your minds on things above, not earthly things.
-
Paul reminds us of this simple truth that we are not to be like the world.
-
We are called to be more spiritually mature than that.
-
Things are good to have A nice home, a good paying job, you can go to Walmart, buy whatever you want, but sometimes we allow the blessings of God to become our idols.
-
The children of Israel when they left, god instructed them to ask all their neighbors, everyone in Egypt, to give them their gold and their silver.
-
They walked out free and now blessed.
-
But that same blessing later was how they made the golden calf.
-
They took what God had blessed them with and they worshiped it, because Moses had been on the mountain for too long.
-
Well, I don't know what we're going to do now.
-
I don't see him anymore.
-
How many times do we think that about God?
-
I don't see him working.
-
I guess I got to figure it out.
-
I don't see him doing anything.
-
Well, I guess he's slumbering.
-
Set your minds on things above To bear the fruit of spiritual maturity.
-
What does that look like?
-
Sometimes, the greatest fruit of spiritual maturity is shutting up.
-
I have learned in my life for me that if someone upsets me or speaks against me, I can take it, but I've had to restrain myself if someone speaks against my wife.
-
It doesn't happen often, but when someone you love is being targeted, the spirit of slap comes on you and you want to show them the weight that the word of God bears with a physical Bible King James, you know what I'm saying?
-
Your family Bible, and you want to beat them with the word.
-
Sometimes spiritual growth is not acting, it's just waiting.
-
Kids impulsively act all the time, but we know, as mature parents, that we have to sometimes wait and restrain and things will work out.
-
God will take care of things.
-
Romans 12, 2, it says do not conform to the patterns of this world.

Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The word or the world right now is driven by fear.

Or the world right now is driven by fear.

There's a term popular right now.

It's called FOMO.

Anybody ever heard it before?

Fear of missing out.
-
That's a real thing.
-
It sounds stupid and weird, but that's real.
-
That's a thing.
-
People actively are looking to get involved in things because they don't want to miss out on what's going on.
-
There's a sale at the store.
-
I got to save money and go buy something.
-
Saving money is not buying it, dummy, that's just math.

But if you fear this stuff like oh well, they got a new car, so I gotta get one too.

Or they got a bigger house.

My house isn't as big as theirs.

You're not called to serve in that way.

You may not like people, but you know how to organize things.

You may hate youth, but you love little kids.

You can watch some babies.

That's fine.

Or you may not want to ever see a baby ever again in your life, but you, like senior citizens, see a baby ever again in your life.

But you, like senior citizens, there's always a place, there's always a way.

Or maybe you're stuck, like I said earlier, in a loveless marriage and you don't know what's going to happen next or if you're even going to make it to next month.

Or maybe you've just had some things happen to you in life and you become so sour and so negative towards everything that you never speak life.

You're always receiving and speaking death in every situation.

That is a hard pill to swallow, because we get in that area pretty easily.

You have something bad go wrong.

I can make my day bad and everybody in my household's bad.

My wife will not do a thing, she'll have a great day and something bad goes wrong with me.

And she comes in and all of a sudden Stephen's upset and she has no clue why.

She's like did I do something?

I'm like no, she's about to, she's going to kill me.

When you breathe negativity, it's other people that are breathing in that negativity.

If you allow your thoughts to be consumed by toxic behaviors, you will end up sending out what you've been taking in.

When the devil starts to squeeze you, whatever's inside of you is going to start coming out.

So are you consumed by septic thoughts or do you focus on the things of God?

This is why it's so important.

This is why Jesus said and I said this last Sunday, I'll probably say it every Sunday, because it's a serious problem If you even look upon a woman with lust, you've already committed it in your heart.

There's all kinds of things that we struggle with and deal with, but the way we start to overcome is we start to get the game going right up here.

What are you allowing to consume your thoughts?

That you see yourself how other people see themselves and you compare and you get all these wrong definitions of who you are, when it's very simple you are a child of the one true King.

Sometimes we confuse needs and wants, uh-oh.

What I need is to have a clear mind so that when God speaks to me and wants to use me in any situation, I'm receptive because I've cleared out all the cobwebs.

How can we say, god, I want you to pour into me when we will not get out what is already there?

The fact is, our lives have become so busy and so full of things already and we say, god, we want you to move, but we're not willing to.

And we say, god, we want you to move, but we're not willing to.

How does God pour out his spirit and have a move through his willing vessels and people?

So if we are not seeing, I'm gonna ask a question, not saying I'm gonna ask If we're not seeing God do the things that we know he can do, who in here is blocking it?

Who in here has not said God, whatever's inside of me, whatever is unclean, whatever I have been allowing to distort my view of you or distort my view of me, cleanse me, god, purify me, create in me a clean heart.

And when we say these things, we have to be willing to allow him to do it.

But to be receptive to the spirit of God moving in our hearts and our lives and our families and our services, we have to first start to clean out what is what has been clogging up here and here.
