  1. I've got three things that I want to share this

  2. morning. And the first one is a word for maybe

  3. one or two people here. But the Lord put this

  4. on my heart last night as I was praying for the

  5. service. And I want to share this with you. Your

  6. season of laughter is coming. Will you receive

  7. that? Your season of laughter is coming. Now

  8. I want to read some verses from Genesis chapter

    Genesis 21 chapter mention

  9. 21. Verse 1. Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah

  10. as he had said. And the Lord did for Sarah what

  11. he had promised. And I want to remind you, and

  12. you can remind the person sitting next to you

  13. right now, God will do what he said he would

  14. do. God will do what he said he would do. Amen?

  15. So just tell that to the person next to you right

  16. now. God will do what he said he would do. Sarah

  17. became pregnant. and bore a son to Abraham in

  18. his old age. At the very time God had promised

  19. him, there it is again, Abraham gave him the

  20. name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. And when

  21. his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised

  22. him as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred

  23. years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

  24. And listen to what Sarah said. Sarah said, God

  25. has brought me laughter. And everyone who hears

  26. about this will laugh with me. Hallelujah. Now

  27. you need to understand something, that this was

  28. after a lifetime of grieving. She had been married

  29. to Abraham for a long time. They had the promise

  30. that God had given to Abraham for 25 years when

  31. she was 65. And so she was living, believing

  32. for a long time. And now she's 90. Her womb is

  33. dead. But God woke up her womb. so that she could

  34. receive and bear a miracle son. Hallelujah. Now,

  35. the year before, when the men came sent from

  36. God to bear that message, Sarah laughed. Do you

  37. remember when Sarah laughed? You can read the

  38. story, Genesis 17, 18, right in there. And Sarah

  39. laughed because she was doubting. And she was

  40. embarrassed that she laughed. In fact, Abraham

  41. asked her, why did you laugh? And she lied. And

  42. she said, I did not laugh. And you see, the first

  43. laughter that was connected to this miracle was

  44. the laughter of doubt. But God is faithful even

  45. when we are not oftentimes, amen? And he was

  46. faithful to Sarah. And Sarah, bore a child, and

  47. God turned her laughter of doubt into the laughter

  48. of abundance. Hallelujah. And she freely, before

  49. she lied about it and she said, no, I didn't

  50. laugh. No, I didn't doubt. No, I didn't do any

  51. of those things. But now she has been given a

  52. son. The promise has come to her. And she is

  53. freely laughing in front of everybody. And she's

  54. saying that the God that made me laugh is going

  55. to make everybody else laugh when they hear my

  56. story. Hallelujah. Now, some of you have been

  57. standing, believing God for a long time. And

  58. God says this morning, your season of laughter

  59. is coming. Hallelujah. And so I want to pray

  60. over you right now. I want to pray over you because

  61. there's a couple of people in this room that

  62. that went into. And you say, I'm latching on

  63. to that word. If that's you, lift up your hand

  64. right now. You're latching on to that word. Hands

  65. up all over this room. Father, in the name of

  66. Jesus, I thank you for the hands that are up

  67. right now just representing the promise of God

  68. being fulfilled in their lives. They're believing

  69. you. They're standing. And for some of them,

  70. it has been a long, long season. God, I'm asking

  71. right now all over this room. that the season

  72. of laughter will come forth in the name of Jesus.

  73. You say, how Lord can it be done? How Lord can

  74. it be done? But we join with Mary and say with

  75. God, all things are possible. Lord, when Elizabeth

  76. gave birth to John, the Bible says that everyone

  77. rejoiced with her. Hallelujah. And God, I thank

  78. you for the miracles that are coming to these

  79. hands that are lifting up right now in Jesus'

  80. name. I thank you for the breakthroughs that

  81. are coming. I thank you for the answered prayer

  82. that is coming in the name of Jesus. I thank

  83. you for the healing that is coming in the name

  84. of Jesus. And I ask, Father, that the season

  85. of laughter will come in Jesus' name. Hallelujah.

  86. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Okay, you can

  87. tell I haven't preached in a while. Sermon number

  88. two. Sermon number two is in Joshua chapter 24.

    Joshua 24 chapter mention

  89. And these are for some people to strengthen their

  90. hand in their family. To strengthen their hand

  91. in what God has called you in your family. And

  92. you remember Joshua had just, he had won all

  93. the battles. The land was being settled. And

  94. he was giving a victory speech to the Israelites

  95. before they split up and all went their way.

  96. And he was warning them about serving other gods.

  97. And he said in verse 14 of Joshua 24, 24 -14,

  98. Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness.

  99. Everybody say, all faithfulness. Throw away the

  100. gods your ancestors worshipped beyond the Euphrates

  101. River and in Egypt and serve the Lord. But if

  102. serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then

  103. choose for yourselves this day whom you will

  104. serve, whether the gods of your ancestors, they

  105. serve beyond the Euphrates or the gods of the

  106. Amorites in whose land you are living. But as

  107. for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

  108. Hallelujah. And that's a declaration I felt the

  109. Lord put in my heart. This is all aside from

  110. my ever -shortening sermon that's about to come

  111. up. I believe that that word was to be released

  112. this morning over somebody here to have... courage

  113. to stand up for your household and say, as for

  114. me and my house, we're not going to go the way

  115. the world. We're not going to do the things that

  116. the world does. We're not going to operate the

  117. way the world operates. We're not going to be

  118. in love with the things that the world is in

  119. love with. We're not going to spend our money

  120. the way the world spends its money because as

  121. for me and my house, we're serving God. Hallelujah.

  122. Hallelujah. How many of you will with a fresh

  123. declaration today? Whether you are single, living

  124. by yourself, that is your household. Or whether

  125. you are a grandparent and all of your kids are

  126. gone and you're there by yourself now, that is

  127. your household. Amen? Or whether you have kids

  128. in your home, whether you're a full family in

  129. your home right now, man of God, woman of God,

  130. will you stand up in the Spirit? And will you

  131. say, as for me and my house, we will serve the

  132. Lord. Hallelujah. The spirit of Joshua come upon

  133. you in Jesus' name. Hallelujah. If that's you,

  134. lift up your hand before the Lord right now.

  135. God, all over this room, people standing up saying,

  136. as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  137. God, we declare that with our whole heart. God,

  138. we just embrace the declaration Joshua made.

  139. Joshua knew that others would go the other direction.

  140. And there might be people at work or even our

  141. friends that have gone the wrong direction. But

  142. we declare with something fresh in our hearts

  143. at the beginning of this summer, God, we declare

  144. that as for me and my house, we will serve the

  145. Lord. We declare that in the name of Jesus. Ooh,

  146. hallelujah. Hallelujah. God, just in the midst

  147. of this, we declare our, we just recognize that

  148. we're imperfect, that we are being made holy.

  149. We are holy and we're being made holy. We are

  150. sanctified, but we're also being made sanctified.

  151. That you are working in our lives. We ask for

  152. your help in this, your grace. God, it's not

  153. just about following rules better because we

  154. fall short. It is about leaning into Jesus and

  155. the power of the Holy Spirit and trusting God

  156. day by day to be our strength. We declare, as

  157. for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  158. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Isn't that good? Praise

  159. God. Praise God. And then finally, this morning,

  160. in 1 Peter 1, if you would turn there with me.

  161. 1 Peter 1. And we're going to be celebrating

  162. with baptisms right after this time. I want to

  163. talk for a moment about the refiner's fire. And

  164. I want to ask you, is the refiner's fire burning

  165. in your heart? The refiner's fire. And we're

  166. in 1 Peter chapter 1, and I want to read from

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  167. verses 6 through 9. In all this you greatly rejoice,

  168. though now for a little while you may have had

  169. to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. so that

  170. the proven genuineness of your faith, of greater

  171. worth than gold, which perishes even though refined

  172. by fire, may result in praise, glory, and honor

  173. when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have

  174. not seen Him, you love Him. And even though you

  175. do not see him now, you believe in him and are

  176. filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy

  177. for you are receiving the end result of your

  178. faith, the salvation of your soul. Hallelujah.

  179. Give God praise for that. That's powerful. The

  180. refiner's fire. And Peter alludes to the refining

  181. of gold the same way that God tests your faith.

  182. Refiner's fire. Let me read to you some verses

  183. that you can write down if you're taking notes.

  184. Proverbs 17, 3. The crucible for silver and the

  185. furnace for gold. But the Lord tests the heart.

  186. The Lord tests the heart. So you and I, and this

  187. obviously is not your physical heart. This is

  188. the heart of your faith. The internal spiritual

  189. heart, God tests. He does not test it so that

  190. you will fail. He tests it so that you will pass.

  191. He's not a cruel teacher that wants most of his

  192. students to fail, like my freshman English teacher.

  193. I barely passed. Oh, God wants you to pass the

  194. test. And so the fire that you have been in,

  195. the trial, is to... increase your faith in Christ.

  196. Amen? And so there are different ways that the

  197. Lord tests us. Let me just walk through a couple

  198. of them quickly. Here's another proverb, Proverbs

  199. 27, 21. The crucible for silver and the furnace

  200. for gold, but people are tested by their praise.

  201. Wow. Did you know that? When people tell you,

  202. you did a great job, guess what's happening in

  203. that moment? Your heart is being tested. What's

  204. in your heart often comes out when people praise

  205. you. Whether you have a woe is me attitude, Which

  206. God wants to burn out of you because sometimes

  207. when people praise you or give you a compliment,

  208. you have so much woe is me -ism in you that you

  209. can't even receive what they're trying to say.

  210. And you just outright reject what people are

  211. saying to you. Or whether you are inflated with

  212. pride. And so you have... pride that grips your

  213. heart when you are praised and when somebody

  214. compliments you and pride just swells up and

  215. you go, oh no, that's all God, but inside you're

  216. saying, oh yeah, that's me. Praise tests your

  217. heart. It's a fire. Here's what you ought to

  218. do when somebody praises you. you ought to first

  219. say, thank you. That's encouraging. Right? In

  220. fact, let's all say that together. Thank you.

  221. That's encouraging. That's a great thing to say.

  222. And then do you know what you do? You give glory

  223. to the Lord. You give that praise to God because

  224. you know and I know that if I do something well

  225. and somebody says thank you or that was a great

  226. job, Darren, you know and I know that that only

  227. happens because of the goodness of God in my

  228. life. And the same is true for you. It happens

  229. because of the goodness of God. operating in

  230. your life. And so you and I cannot take the glory

  231. for that praise. You and I cannot take the accolades

  232. for that praise. We can't do it. We've got to

  233. give glory to God. We've got to give glory where

  234. glory is due. Because it is only Him working

  235. in my life that I am what I am. Amen? And so

  236. we say thank you, that's encouraging. And then

  237. we give God the glory for that thing in our lives.

  238. Amen? We give Him glory. We are tested when we

  239. are praised. How do you respond when people praise

  240. you? If you have a woe is me attitude, you need

  241. to repent of that in Jesus' name. Because that

  242. is the opposite side of pride. And it is the

  243. constant putting down of yourself which God does

  244. not do. And you need to stop it in the name of

  245. Jesus. And you need to say, God, thank you. I

  246. recognize the giftings and the good things that

  247. you've done in my life. I recognize those things.

  248. I don't have to deny them to be humble. I can

  249. recognize what God has done in my life, and I

  250. can give Him praise for that. Amen? That's good

  251. stuff. Praise the Lord. The second thing that

  252. God refines us with, which we've already touched

  253. on, is affliction. affliction. It's difficulty

  254. in life. And Jesus said, in this world you will

  255. have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome

  256. the world. And the psalmist said in Psalm 66

  257. 10, for you God tested us, you refined us like

  258. silver. You refined us like silver. You brought

  259. us into prison. Now this was because of Their

  260. lack of repenting. They would not repent. You

  261. brought us into prison and you laid burdens on

  262. our back. You let people ride over our heads.

  263. We went through fire and water. But you brought

  264. us to a place of abundance. I want to read that

  265. again because that was exciting to me. If it

  266. was exciting to nobody else. Verse 12. This is

  267. Psalm 66, 12. You let people ride over our heads.

  268. We went through the fire and water, but you brought

  269. us to a place of abundance. You see, the refining

  270. and the testing is not to get you to fail and

  271. fall and be destroyed. It is ultimately to bless

  272. you and bring you into the place of abundance.

  273. But they had to say yes to the time. of trial.

  274. That's Psalm 66 10. Isaiah 48 10. God says through

  275. Isaiah, see I have refined you, though not as

  276. silver, I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

  277. Wow. Zechariah 13, 8 and 9. In the whole land,

  278. declares the Lord, two -thirds will be struck

  279. down and perish. This is a prophecy. Yet one

  280. -third will be left in it. Verse 9. This third

  281. I will put into the fire. I will refine them

  282. like silver and test them like gold. They will

  283. carry on my name and I will answer them. I will

  284. say they are my people and they will say the

  285. Lord is. our God. You see, when silver and gold

  286. is refined, if you've ever watched the process,

  287. you can watch it on YouTube. As it heats up,

  288. what happens is all the impurities in it come

  289. to the surface. And the gold is so hot that when

  290. the impurities hit the surface, and they come

  291. in contact with oxygen, then they burst into

  292. flame and they are burned up. And this is what

  293. God wants to do with the dross in our lives.

  294. It's called dross. The dross comes up to the

  295. surface and it burns up so that what is left

  296. in your life... In that bowl is pure silver and

  297. pure gold and is not mixed with anything else.

  298. Now that's a simplified version of the purification

  299. process. But what does it take? Heat. It takes

  300. heat. And so you go through things in life. And

  301. you know what it does? It puts heat underneath

  302. you so that the impurities draw out. Amen? The

  303. impurities are drawn out. You hit your thumb

  304. with a hammer. And guess what? The impurities

  305. can come out. I'm just telling you. And you might

  306. discover there's more I need to repent of. You're

  307. laughing because you know it's true. Frustrating

  308. things happen. no matter how saved you are, frustrating

  309. things will still happen. And why do they happen?

  310. Because God is purifying our hearts. So do you

  311. know what the solution is? To surrender to the

  312. refiner's fire. The Holy Spirit has not just

  313. been given you to empower you so that you always

  314. live on cloud nine. He has come so that you can

  315. be a strong witness for the kingdom of God. But

  316. one of the functions of the Holy Spirit is to

  317. burn like a fire so that you and I walk refined

  318. before Him. Refiner's fire. And so as I close

  319. here, the psalmist learned to pray. And so if

  320. you can, turn to Psalm 139 with me, and we're

  321. going to close with this prayer in Psalm 139.

  322. There's actually multiple places in the Bible

  323. where people pray something similar, but... I'm

  324. just going to read this one as I close this morning.

  325. In verse 23, the psalmist says, Search me, God,

  326. and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious

  327. thoughts. See if there is any offensive way.

  328. in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Isn't

  329. this a great prayer? Do you know what this is?

  330. This is a surrendering to the refiner's fire.

  331. God, I recognize that there's places in my life

  332. that I can't even see. I have blind spots that

  333. others can see often, but even some, God, that

  334. only you see. And the psalmist says, God, here's

  335. what I want you to do. I want you to burn the

  336. dross off of my life. I want to be pleasing to

  337. you in your sight. Search me, O God, and know

  338. my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts.

  339. What he's praying here is not just that they

  340. would be exposed, but that they would be transformed

  341. and changed. And what the psalmist did not have

  342. revelation of that you and I have revelation

  343. of is the cross of Calvary. That you and I can

  344. pray this, and as we pray this, we... can come

  345. to the cross. Hallelujah. We can come to the

  346. cross where Jesus shed His blood. And we can

  347. say, God, search me. Know me. Try my anxious

  348. thoughts. I bring them to the cross for You to

  349. deliver me and set me free. Hallelujah. And God

  350. will do that. What is that vice that has you?

  351. That perhaps you were once freed from, but you

  352. went back to it. What is that internal thought

  353. that you constantly have that you know is not

  354. from God? What is that thing that you struggle

  355. with that you know that God needs to burn out

  356. of your life? Holy Spirit, search my heart. Know

  357. me. God, my desire is that if there is any offensive

  358. way in me, That God, it be out of my life. And

  359. that I walk in the way everlasting. I want to

  360. bring you pleasure, God. I want to bring you

  361. pleasure. And so before we move to the baptisms

  362. this morning. I just want to respond. And you

  363. might want to come down to the altar. You might

  364. build an altar right there where you are. You

  365. might just close your eyes. But I want to respond

  366. with a song that just says, Refiners fire, have

  367. your way in me. Have your way in my life. Refiners

  368. fire. Move in me. Thank you, Jesus.
