  21. It's a great privilege.

  22. I would like for you to open up in the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 7, please.

    1 Corinthians 7 chapter mention

  23. There is a secular song that came out a few years ago.

  24. Lately in these last years, it's very rare to have good music songs that come out.

  25. But I believe at this time the devil kind of lost his mind, and this song came out.

  26. Let's make a deal.

  27. Want me to sing it to you?

  28. It says this.

  29. Come on, let's make a deal.

  30. A secret pact of the two of us.

  31. I want you to count on me, count on you from here to the end.

  32. And what comes after, I really like more.

  33. You you will be for me.

  34. You're going to make me happy.

  35. And me, I will be for you.

  36. And I am going to make sure that I take care of you and make you even happier.

  37. Let's make a deal, a sweet contract that I want to fulfill.

  38. I want to speak to marriages this morning.

  39. If you're single, this is a seminar for your future.

  40. It knows.

  41. El mes de febrero pasado, mi esposa Lucy y yo cumplimos 44 años de casados.

  42. Me and my wife Lucy, we celebrated 44 years of marriage.

  43. Nos casamos de 17 años.

  44. No lo vuelvo a hacer.

  45. I will not do it again.

  46. Han pasado 44 años.

  47. Y quiero compartirte esta mañana un secreto.

  48. And I want to share with you this morning a secret, a secret that is biblical, that has

  49. carried us throughout the years.

  55. Verse 34, there is a difference between a wife and a virgin.

  56. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body

  57. and in spirit.

  58. But she who is married cares about the things of the world and how she may please her husband.

  59. Pleasing our spouses.

  60. Vamos a ver en primer lugar esta mañana.

  61. Let's think first of all, el vivir la vida agradando a su cónyuge es un secreto para

  62. desarrollar un buen matrimonio.

  63. Living life pleasing your spouse, it is a secret to develop a good marriage.

  64. Why do I want to preach this?

  65. Cada tanto tiempo, uno de nuestros obreros cae en moralidad.

  66. Some of our workers they fell in immorality.

  67. Nuestros matrimonios se destruyen.

  68. And marriages get destroyed.

  69. Ministerios se destruyen.

  70. Ministries get destroyed.

  71. Hace unas cuantas conferencias atrás.

  72. A few conferences ago.

  73. Estaba yo en aquel lugar.

  74. I was over there on that side there.

  75. And a pastor was sharing with me one of his men had morally failed.

  76. It wasn't 10 minutes after that I came and sat in my chair.

  77. Somebody else came and gave me the information of another pastor falling into immorality.

  78. Last month sadly I heard three more news about that.

  79. Talking about men of God.

  80. Our fellowship is a great blessing throughout the world.

  81. I no doubt that what God is doing is something glorious.

  82. Every so often we lose good men.

  83. A good marriage.

  84. Y eso abarca toda la familia.

  85. And that just empires us or touches all the families.

  86. Sufrimientos impresionantes.

  87. Incredible suffering in las familias.

  88. In the families.

  89. Esto no tiene que ser así.

  90. This does not have to be.

  91. I rejoice hearing Pastor Mark Olson celebrating his 50th anniversary.

  92. That God would help every one of us that we could say the same thing.

  93. One of the very serious problems that I have observed throughout the years is called selfishness.

  94. Egoism is one of the greatest causes of family destruction.

  95. Selfishness is one of the great destroyers of families.

  96. Egoism is a destructive attitude of marriage.

  97. Selfishness is an attitude that destroys marriages.

  98. I believe that selfishness is one of the attitudes that destroy most marriages.

  99. The dictionary of Spain defines selfishness this way.

  100. In moderate and excessive love for oneself.

  101. Which makes one pay excessive attention to one's own interests.

  102. Not taking care of the interests of others.

  103. In this case our spouses.

  104. In verse 33 of our text.

  105. Verse 33 says, but he who is married cares about the things of the world, how he may

  106. please his wife.

  107. Verse 34 puts it this way, but she who is married cares about the things of the world,

  108. how she may please her husband.

  109. When I was reading the words, the lyrics of this secular song.

  110. Let's make a deal.

  111. I'm going to please you.

  112. You're going to please me.

  113. Let's make a deal and everything is going to be okay.

  114. Incredibly this married couple.

  115. Recently the husband died, Diego Verdader.

  116. The creator of this song.

  117. And his wife is the one that actually singing now this song.

  118. And incredibly only death separated them.

  119. In the artistic world that's almost impossible that that would take place.

  120. But here are sinners giving us a powerful example in that sense.

  121. Let's make a deal.

  122. I'm going to please you.

  123. You're going to please me.

  124. And I believe that with that enough is enough just to come to the altar.

  125. Because when we are just signing our marriage act, our license, we're making a deal.

  126. But throughout the years that deal gets damaged.

  127. Selfishness.

  128. It pushes you to think only about yourself and what you need and what you desire.

  129. And selfishness steals away the ability for you to think, for you to be interested, concern

  130. about what your spouse's needs, what your spouse's likes, desires.

  131. If selfishness has been ruling your marriage, for sure you have not given yourself to the

  132. task to study, to get to know the need of your spouse, the desires, the likes of your

  133. spouse.

  134. It is good for you to think at least three things that your spouse has in your life.

  135. Your spouse has needs.

  136. They have tastes, likes.

  137. They have desires.

  138. They have desires.

  139. My spouse.

  140. They actually have needs.

  141. They actually have likes and tastes.

  142. If you neglect these three things of your spouse, don't expect to have good results

  143. in your marriage life.

  144. Even if you expect your spouse to live just for your needs, for your likes, and for your

  145. desires, but yet you don't do nothing, or yet you do barely.

  146. For the desires, the likes, and the needs of your spouse, things will never go well.

  147. Two selfish people living under the same roof.

  148. We heard this week.

  149. Marriage is comprehended about two people, two human beings, and both of them, they have

  150. needs, desires, and tastes.

  151. In our text, the apostle Paul, he understood the need that marriages have for them to live

  152. according to the need for one of each other.

  153. One each other, pleasing each other.

  154. He's bringing a teaching to the church in Corinth, but yet he's using an example.

  155. An example about marriage.

  156. And what an example of marriage.

  157. How can we live pleasing each other?

  158. By listening, paying attention to the needs, the desires, and the likes of their spouse.

  159. There is no marriage that is driven by selfish will ever end up well.

  160. Because it is very easy, right, to demand from your spouse, and demanding, and demanding.

  161. But what about you?

  162. Where don't you make the deal of that song?

  163. Where both of them, they live to please each other.

  164. The rest of their lives.

  165. What does the Bible say about this?

  166. In Philippians chapter two, verse four.

  167. May each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests

  168. of others.

  169. One of the great teachings of the Bible, it is to love your neighbor as yourself.

  170. The Bible speaks a lot against selfishness.

  171. Because it is a destructive attitude.

  172. It destroys individually people.

  173. But it also destroys relationships.

  174. It destroys marriages.

  175. Paul is speaking to the Philippians.

  176. Don't think just about yourself.

  177. Learn to think about someone else.

  178. In this case, our spouses.

  179. This brings me to my second point.

  180. The importance of discovering the needs, the tastes, and the spouse's wishes.

  181. Regular what we discover is the errors, right, between each other.

  182. And we begin to mark them.

  183. How about the needs?

  184. How well do you know the needs of your spouse?

  185. If you don't know them, let me help you a little bit.

  186. Think about the women, the needs of the women.

  187. Women need to be treated fragile, very well, like a fragile vessel.

  188. No machismo here.

  189. Women like for them to give them time.

  190. Can you please help me with the name in?

  191. Women like to be heard.

  192. Women talk, talk, and talk.

  193. When my wife Lucy travels with me in my car, and we go hours in our car, I just put my

  194. self in the hands of the Lord, the Father, the Spirit, and the Son.

  195. Because Lucy's going to speak.

  196. Women love to speak.

  197. And they need their men to hear them.

  198. They need flowers, cards, gifts.

  199. Women need help with the heavy load at work in their own home.

  200. The husband always remembers their birthday, just the days of, just Valentine's days.

  201. Women need the husband to buy them, you know, equipment to wash the clothes, do the laundry,

  202. all kinds of stuff.

  203. They need an assurance, financial stability.

  204. That the man will be a good worker.

  205. These are the women's needs.

  206. Think about the men's needs.

  207. Men were not too complicated.

  208. They didn't believe us.

  209. Men only just need three things.

  210. Seriously, seriously, speaking three things.

  211. Sex.

  212. Sex.

  213. Sex.

  214. And sex.

  215. And all the men say amen.

  216. Well, sister, if you believe that's from hell, it's not from hell.

  217. It's a need.

  218. It's a vital need for your husband to be by your side.

  219. Well, there are other things.

  220. A man needs a good treatment at home.

  221. A good atmosphere, just a good feeling at home.

  222. A woman with a good character, so well-sought that the husband would actually want to come

  223. from work back home.

  224. She would not be like a lion waiting for him.

  225. In Mexico, sometimes that takes place once in a while.

  226. A man seriously needs that a woman would actually take care of her physical figure.

  227. It's a vital need for the man.

  228. Our trouble many times is in our vision.

  229. And we need a woman that would take care of herself physically.

  230. You have to study about that, sister.

  231. I'm talking about a vital need to actually build a good marriage.

  232. And to iron the clothes.

  233. Do the laundry, things.

  234. And also for the woman to actually feed the man's ego.

  235. Just to encourage him.

  236. That would tell him words that would lift him up.

  237. Because there is a power in words.

  238. Solomon says it can bring life or death.

  239. There is power in words.

  240. And the wife has to have the ability to speak positive things on him.

  241. So your spouse has needs.

  242. Let's talk about the taste, the likes.

  243. As human beings we have different types of tastes and likes.

  244. It's astonishing when we get married every head is a different world.

  245. This also includes the taste, the likes.

  246. Simple things like one may like beef, the other likes pork.

  247. In Mexico some like corn tortillas, some like flour tortillas.

  248. My wife loves rice, I love beans.

  249. Gustos, gustos, gustos.

  250. Likes, tastes.

  251. Somos un mundo diferente en gustos.

  252. La pregunta es como tratas los gustos de tu conyuge.

  253. The question is how do you treat the taste of your spouse?

  254. Los valoras, los respetas?

  255. Do you value them?

  256. Do you respect them?

  257. Los cuidas?

  258. Do you take care of them?

  259. O los criticas?

  260. Or do you criticize them?

  261. Y no te importa mucho.

  262. And you could care less about them.

  263. Y los descuidas.

  264. And you just neglect them.

  269. But how sad it is when all of a sudden the monster of your ego blares out.

  270. I like what I like about your things I'm not really interested on.

  271. Marriage is about two people.

  272. Many times the problems with single is that they get married and throughout the years

  273. they want to continue to live like single people.

  274. But yet there is another human being there.

  275. Many times selfishness causes it.

  276. We just want to take the benefits out of our spouse.

  277. And we don't do our own part.

  278. Our spouses have taste, they have likes.

  279. But how about the desires, the wishes, the dreams.

  280. As human beings, we also have desires.

  281. One desires one type of car, the other one desires another style of car.

  282. One desires to go to one city, the other one desires to go to another city.

  283. And there is a world of desires in one of them and then in the other.

  284. Both of them are very much different.

  285. There were two donkeys.

  286. You always think wrong here about this.

  287. They put one style of food in one side, the other style in another side.

  288. They tied them down to their neck to each other.

  289. One donkey will go one way, the other one will go the other way.

  290. And none of them will let each other go to eat.

  291. They were actually hurting themselves, hurting themselves.

  292. Each one of them wanted to go to their place until one donkey had to be less donkey.

  293. They actually got in one accord, they actually ate together in that same bowl.

  294. And then after they came and ate together in the other bowl.

  295. Just fixed it.

  296. Out with selfishness.

  297. And there is a strength in the relationship.

  298. I want to go to my last point.

  299. Living life pleasing your spouse.

  300. Let's come back to our text.

  301. Verse 33.

  302. But he who is merry cares about the things of the world, how he may please his wife.

  303. Verse 34 says this.

  304. But she who is merry cares about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

  305. I believe in the beginning years of our marriage, Lucy and I, we had a lot of confrontations

  306. because of selfishness.

  307. But we actually had to begin to just mature.

  308. Christianity removes selfishness away from our heart.

  309. The teachings of God's word removes selfishness of our hearts.

  310. And we began to seriously put together this.

  311. And both now we both live one for each other.

  312. Pleasing us.

  313. Because that is an incredible secret.

  314. Removing selfishness from our marriage.

  315. So the challenge this morning is to renounce selfishness.

  316. Cast it out of our lives.

  317. Out of our own character.

  318. And begin to think about more and the needs and the tastes and the desires of our spouses.

  319. I tell the men first of all, think about the needs of your wife.

  320. And the tastes that she has.

  321. And the desire.

  322. Renounce to yourself.

  323. You will enrich, strengthen your marriage.

  324. We don't have to end up wrong at the end.

  325. We don't have to live with the fear that one day our lives are going to be destroyed.

  326. Just renounce to your selfishness.

  327. I tell the wives now.

  328. You have to renounce to selfishness.

  329. You have to pay attention to the needs of your husband.

  330. To the tastes, to the desires of your husband.

  331. Marriage is about two people.

  332. The word of God teaches us a great path.

  333. In times it is a painful path at the beginning, but through the long haul, you and I we can

  334. build great marriages.

  335. And that means a lot of blessings.

  336. If we practice the Bible.

  337. The Bible teaches us from Genesis to Revelation.

  338. To renounce selfishness.

  339. When both of them make the decision.

  340. When both make the decision.

  341. They will be blessed.

  342. They will have a strong marriage.

  343. Happy.

  344. Their children.

  345. They will be blessed.

  346. When their grandchildren come.

  347. They will be blessed.

  348. And even the dog in the house will be blessed.

  349. Don't you believe it?

  350. When you're bitter.

  351. How do you deal with your dog?

  352. But when you are happy.

  353. The best food for the dog.

  354. Even the dog comes on winning here.

  355. Either we live to please our spouses.

  356. Or we will end up our lives even finishing our lives without even pleasing ourselves.

  357. People that selfish is just an unhappy people.

  358. There is a lot of misery in his interior.

  359. Maybe he thinks that all is going to I'm winning here.

  360. But with selfishness, no one wins.

  361. The apostle Paul makes a powerful declaration.

  362. In Acts chapter 20 verse 35.

    Acts 20:35

  363. It is more blessed to give than to receive.

  364. This is a mystery.

  365. But it's something glorious.

  366. When you learn to give.

  367. In every aspect.

  368. Even in your marriage life.

  369. You will be a blessed person.

  370. You will cause that your marriage will be more blessed.

  371. Your children, your family.

  372. That happens when you live your life.

  373. Pleasing your spouse.

  374. I want to conclude my sermon.

  375. A good marriage, a good family.

  376. That just does not happen just by itself.

  377. By luck.

  378. By just casual chance.

  379. Or that you just simply are because you are a Christian.

  380. I'm a Christian and here I sign.

  381. I didn't fornicate it so I signed.

  382. I did the things okay, right?

  383. That's just the beginning only.

  384. The better comes after.

  385. And it is right there.

  386. Where you're going to have to decide to be a good Christian.

  387. Throughout the years if you work in your marriage.

  388. You're going to have a strong marriage.

  389. If both of them they decide.

  390. To renounce to every type of selfishness.

  391. And keep themselves in that covenant that they made.

  392. The one who's married is concerned about the things how to please his wife.

  393. The married one, the woman that's married she cares about the things of the world.

  394. How she may please her husband.

  395. Together.

  396. It's just a secret of God.

  397. The song says.

  398. You're going to be for me.

  399. You're going to make yourself just make me happy.

  400. And me.

  401. Myself I will be for you.

  402. And I will make sure that I'm going to make you even happier.

  403. If all the marriages do that.

  404. That we will live and that just call.

  405. Throughout the months and the years.

  406. You're going to go year.
