Unbroken from trauma

Hi, this is Dave Olson. I'm the senior leader of

Heartland Church located in Ankeny, IA.

I hope the following message challenges, encourages and

ultimately changes you. Thanks for joining us.

Well, my name is Mike Hutchings. I'm just a boy from Illinois,

spent 58 years of my life in Illinois.

I pastored for 35 years. Then I was asked by my friend

Randy Clark, whom he and I were fellow Baptist pastors together

in southern Illinois back in the early 80s.

He asked me if I would come and direct the education programs

for Global Awakening. And so for the past 13 years

I've been in Mechanicsburg, PA, just just assisting my dear

friend in the amazing ministry that God has given him in

touching the world and awakening the world to the power of the

Holy Spirit. About 13 years ago, at at the

same time, I was asked by Randy, somebody asked me actually

between the services, why do you think God chose you to do this

ministry of bringing healing to trauma?

And I said, well, honestly, it came as an assignment.

My my boss told me to pray for a guy with PTSD and I was

available. And even though I didn't know

what to do, I went ahead and did it anyway.

Everybody smile, right? Because how many, you know, God

never calls the qualified. He always qualifies the called.

And so I just asked the Holy Spirit for help.

He showed me how to do that. I prayed for this man.

He got completely healed and set free from all of the PTSD

symptoms that he was carrying, including suicidal thoughts,

chronic nerve pain. He couldn't sleep more than two

hours at night. And God completely set him free.

And it began a journey for me of learning God's heart to bring

healing to trauma. And so over this past now 13

years, I've had the privilege of traveling to 37 states, to 11

different countries and training the church.

First of all, to to train the church how to bring healing to

trauma through the power of prayer in the name of Jesus.

But also to declare a prophetic mandate to the church that

whenever we've had people who had trauma or people, people who

had mental health issues, we would have a tendency, at least

I did as a pastor, to kind of push them off into the

psychological community. And how many of you know that

we, I bless counselors and psychiatrists and psychologists

and therapists, but they only know how to help people cope

with their trauma. They know how to give medicine

and give exercises, but they don't know how to heal.

And I, my prophetic mandate to the church is simply to say

there's only one organization on the planet earth that has the

power and the goods and the means to break the power of

trauma off of people's lives and set them free.

And that's the Church of Jesus Christ.

And it's time for us as the church to take back trauma, to

take back mental health issues and declare healing and, and not

just help these people cope, but actually get them set free by

the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

You know, we, we're even seeing this now in the mental health

area where we're beginning to see bipolar disorder and

schizoaffective disorders healed.

We had a woman come to our broken conference who got a word

of knowledge about being healed of schizoaffective disorder and

she had been hearing voices and she had been having

hallucinations and delusions from the time that she was a

teenager. So she had been on heavy duty

psychotic antipsychotic medications to help her cope.

And she's obviously brilliant because she became a lawyer and

worked in the in the public sector.

But when she came to that unbroken conference, she

received that testimony of her being of schizoaffective

disorder being healed and she felt a rush of the power of God

run through her body and she began to feel very different.

She wasn't hearing any voices anymore.

She went to her psychiatrist and begin to talk with her

psychiatrist and asked her psychiatrist because she was

having negative side effects from the medicine that she'd

been on for years. And so she be he began to wean

her off of her medication from the 1st of November to the

beginning of January of the next year.

And in January of 2025, she went completely off all of her

medication. No more voices, no more suicidal

ideations, no more hallucinations or delusions, got

completely set free. She came to the Unbroken

Conference in New Mexico in August and gave her testimony of

being completely healed of schizoaffective disorders.

And since then, since I've shared that testimony in a

number of other meetings, we've seen people heal of

schizoaffective disorders, of bipolar one and two disorders,

and many mental health issues. Because how many of you know God

heals the spirit, He heals our bodies, but He also wants to

heal our minds and our souls from those things.

And it's available by the power of the blood of Jesus.

Could I have an Amen in the room?

Anybody. So for those of you that are not

familiar, I now travel full time under the God Feels PTSD

foundation that enables me to go to places.

I've been to Ukraine three times, I've been to Rwanda

twice, I've been to Australia, been to New Zealand, been to

South Africa, been to Brazil, been to Europe.

Actually, I didn't share this before, but I I've had the

privilege now of working with both YWAM, which is Youth with a

Mission, as well as Iris Global in helping them develop

curriculum for their burned out and traumatized missionaries.

We're actually developing curriculum so that when

missionaries come off the field because they're just so

traumatized that we're actually seeing them get healed and

restored and be able to go back on the field again by the power

of God. And so we're working with both

of those organizations to make that happen.

But to follow what I do, I've got a television show called

So pray with me real quick. We're going to pray and then

we're going to just right dive into this.

Holy Spirit. I thank you for the presence of

healing angels in this room right now.

I thank you God, for the healing anointing that flows in this

church. And I ask you just over these

next 20 or so minutes that let the fire of God come and bring

healing and restoration and bring hope to those who have

been hopeless in their trauma, who've been hopeless and

struggling with suicidal thoughts, who've been hopeless

in the pain that they've been caring God.

May they hear the message of hope that comes from Jesus that

says he's come to literally to declare liberty to captives and

freedom to the prisoners in the name of Jesus, we pray and all

God's people said so. Next slide, guys, if you would.

How many of you know the gods in the restoration business?

Yeah, he is. We've already heard testimonies

of restoration. You know, in Psalm 23, David is

talking about his. You know, David began life

serving his family as a shepherd boy.

And so he spent lots of hours out on the fields outside of

Bethlehem taking care of his family's flock of sheep.

And in that time he developed a relationship with Father God.

That was such a beautiful relationship that's actually

mirrored in many of the Psalms that David wrote.

The reason, the reason why David's testimony in the New

Testament about his life is that he was a man after God's own

heart was because David shared everything of his life with

Father God. And he likened in Psalm 23 the

relationship that he had with his father to the relationship

that he is a shepherd had with his sheep.

How many of you know that many times throughout the Bible, Old

and New Testament, God calls us his sheep, right?

You know that, right? Psalm 23, Ezekiel 3634 through

37, and in John chapter 10, we're called the sheep of his

John 10 · chapter mention

pasture. Now that's a beautiful thing.

It's not exactly the greatest compliment in the world.

How many of you know that sheep were not exactly the smartest

animals in the animal Kingdom? There are no sheep acts in the

circus. They're notor.

Yep, they're notoriously difficult to train.

I had an interview with the shepherd in New Zealand who told

me that he has to keep his eye constantly on his sheep because

they wander off very easily. They take constant care and

literally the shepherd lives with the sheep.

The in in. In past days and David's day,

the the shepherd would literally lay down at the front of the

stall where the gate where the shepherd was at the gate to

guard the sheep from the wolf. And this shepherd told me in New

Zealand that if he puts his sheep out on a pasture that's

next to a Cliff, the sheep will literally eat themselves off the

Cliff. They'll just keep eating and

just fall over. So instead of being insulted by

being called a sheep by God, I want you to understand that

actually this picture in Psalm 23 is of the watch, care, and

the love that the Father has over every one of us.

That He loves us with an everlasting love, that His eye

is always on us, looking out after us all the time.

You may feel like you may be alone.

You may be put into circumstances where you feel

very alone in this world. But I tell you, fear and not

your father is watching out after you turn to somebody and

say his eye is on you because he loves you.

So in this Psalm, David makes this declaration.

He says the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.

Now I want to stop there because that's that versus the theme of

what I want to bring to you today.

The word restore here in many paraphrases is many times I love

reading paraphrases of scripture, but many times it

kind of take the guts out of the original language.

And in many paraphrases they will use the word he refreshes

my soul. Like, you know, a day at the

spa, you know, I'm going to go and I'm going to get my Manny

and my petty and get a face facial and sit in the sauna and

get a massage and kind of have a refreshing day.

And by the way, those are awesome.

I don't know if you've ever had one.

Most guys don't do that, but I've done that once and it was a

lot of fun. It was really good.

I got refreshed that day. But the word here, restore is

actually not the word refresh. Like it's a day at the spa, but

it has a much deeper meeting. As a matter of fact.

Go to the next slide if you would, guys.

The word here in the Hebrew is the word Aruka.

And the word Aruka means to be restored to health, to restored

to soundness. And it's the same word that

Nehemiah, when he goes to Jerusalem and sees the

devastation of Jerusalem and the walls that are torn down, that

the very first plan he makes, he says, I'm going to restore the

walls of Jerusalem. And that same word that he uses

there is the word that David uses in Psalm 23 that is to be

restored from devastation. David needed to have his soul

restored from devastation, not only because of the fact that he

was a warrior and he had he had been in many wars and had been

through bloodshed, but David knew what it was like to be

persecuted by a king that he dearly loved and served.

And literally for 13 years he was persecuted.

And on the run from this king, he raised up mighty men of God

around him that that depended upon him.

And yet one day as they were out doing battle, the Amalekites

came into the town called Ziklag, where they were

stationed and, and attacked the town and burned down the town

took all the women and children and all of the the equipment and

everything that they had and took it.

And when David and his mighty men came back to the town

expecting to have rest and get some, get some food, instead

they found devastating. And it was at that moment that

these mighty men that David had literally laid his life down

for, they all began to blame David for what took place.

And like what most spiritual leaders go through at one time

or another, they're the people that he laid his life down for,

sought to take up stones and literally kill him, literally

stone him. And my friends, if you're in

spiritual leadership, whether you're a pastor, you lead a

ministry. Just like Jesus had a Judas,

everybody knows Jesus had a Judas.

You'll have that wonderful experience as well at some time

in your life. It's it's actually not

wonderful. It's horrible because when the

very people that you lay your life down for turn against you

and try to steal what God has given you or actually destroy

you, it's an it's an awful experience.

David knew that David knew what it was like to really be

traumatized in so many ways that I believe that David was one of

the most traumatized men in the entire Bible.

But when he declares here that God restores his soul, what he

is talking about here is it the shattering of the soul that

happens when you go through traumatic events and it shatters

you in a way that you become to be defined more by your trauma

rather than by the identity that God has given you as a beloved

child. That's the kind of restoration

that David needed. You will read in the Psalms many

times that David refers to himself as a worm.

David refers to himself with some pretty awful phrases, and

that's because in the midst of his trauma, he began to believe

what the trauma was saying about him rather than what God was

saying about him. And my dear friends, that's most

of our problems. How many of you know that

everybody has trauma? Pastor Dave agrees with me.

Would you turn to somebody and say, everybody has trauma,

Everybody has trauma. The question is not whether

you've had trauma. The question is, does it still

define you today? Does it still impact you?

Does it still define who you think you are?

You see, one of the things that has shocked me over these years,

for instance, as I've had the privilege of going to so many

places and training people in how to bring healing to trauma,

is I am shocked by how many spirit filled, loving Jesus

believers still carry a lot of trauma in their life.

They're plagued by, they can't sleep at night.

They're plagued with panic and anxiety.

So many are plagued with suicidal thoughts that they

struggle with. And of course, in the church,

you can't go to somebody and say, hey, I've got a lot of

suicidal thoughts because you're afraid you're going to be

shamed. Like, what do you mean?

You're a believer? You shouldn't believe that, you

know, or, or guilt because you have those suicidal thoughts.

Let me tell you something, folks.

Everybody look at me when I say this.

I've had the privilege of praying with mighty men and

women of God who are being used powerfully by God to bring

transformation in the earth. And yet they still struggle

sometimes with trauma. They still sometimes struggle

with thoughts of suicide. They still struggle sometimes

with depression and anxiety. That's because their souls

haven't been fully healed yet. So my friend, understand

something. If those are some of the things

that you struggle with, you're actually in good company.

Don't be ashamed of it. Don't be guilty of it.

Because when we feel shame and guilt over that, we have a

tendency to want to hide it. We want to push it down as if

it's not there. And yet in our weak moments, we

still struggle with him. And I want to say to you today

that we want to speak the truth about that.

How many of you understand that you've never had a suicidal

thought that was actually your own?

That there is a demon of suicide that will speak in your own

voice and because you're in so much emotional pain, will try to

convince you just to end your life?

Or when you look at your everybody look at me.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, you hate the person on

the other side of the mirror. You can't stand that person and

you develop self hatred. All of that are lies from the

enemy that's out to steal, kill and destroy the dream of God for

your life. And then he brings the suicidal

thoughts and then he brings the shame and guilt attached to it.

That's just like the enemy. He tries to trap you into this

thing to such an extent that you begin to feel hopeless about

your life and actually begin to think about, well, maybe the

best thing for me to do is just to end my life.

I want to say to you today, if that's you, don't leave here

without getting ministry from the ministry team because the

Lord wants to set you free from that.

And by the way, everybody, when we get an attack from the enemy,

like the suicidal thought, we have a great phrase that we use

on a regular basis because we understand that those thoughts

don't come from us, but they come from the powers of

darkness. We say, and Pastor Hoel has this

shirt. We say, not today, Satan, I'm

not going to listen to that stuff anymore.

Why don't we say that together? Not today Satan, I'm not going

to listen to that stuff anymore. And it's amazing.

The Bible says if you submit yourself to God and resist the

devil, he will flee from you. That means he'll quit doing it

to you. And that's what we all want.

Amen. Next slide, please.

You know, your soul that gets shattered by trauma consists of

four components that are affected by that trauma there.

First of all, it's your mind what and how you think.

It includes your memories. It includes what you think about

yourself. It it includes your beliefs and

your values. And many of us who have been

traumatized, actually, our beliefs about God, our beliefs

about ourselves, and our beliefs about what's available to us

have been affected by that trauma.

I think Laura said it so beautifully here when she talked

about the lie that she was believing that she would just

have to carry this part of her trauma because that's just the

way life is. See if you've come to a place

where the the trauma of your life, the way that you've been

treated and the pain that you carry you, you have come to the

place that you say, well, this is just what life is.

You don't understand that God has a word that he wants to

declare over you and he wants to you to experience.

And that's the word Shalom. Shalom just doesn't mean peace,

but it literally means wholeness.

It literally means life as it's supposed to be, that no matter

what has happened to you and even no matter what choices you

have made, there is healing, there is freedom, and you don't

have to settle for life with trauma and pain in the rest of

your days. You can walk in the true freedom

that Jesus declared in John chapter 10 verse 10 when he said

John 10:10

the thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy.

But I have come that you might have life and have an abundance.

How many of you want that life? Anybody.

That's what I want. I want everything that Jesus

bought and paid for. Well, not only is trauma

affecting your mind, but it affects the power to make

choices. So many of us have have bought

the lie that in order to get out of our pain we have to take

drugs or alcohol or get involved in pornography or get involved

with other things that all have a hook with them.

And that hook is the hook of addiction where when we try to

get away from our pain, those things that we use to try to be

substitute saviors, to try to comfort us, actually create more

damage and more destruction and actually more trauma in our

lives. Because it's those very things

that actually hook us into an addiction that then we become

defined not just by our trauma anymore, but now we're defined

by our addiction. And let me say this to you,

anybody in this room, anybody that's watching online that has

an issue with addiction, I want to say to you, addiction is not

your identity. Addiction is something that

you're suffering with. Addiction is something that you

went to and then got hooked because of the trauma in your

life. But I'm saying to you, go after

your trauma first. Go after the pain that's in your

heart. Allow Jesus to come and bring

healing to your trauma. And I'm telling you, we've seen

it countless times where people get healed of their trauma and

all of a sudden they no longer have an appetite for alcohol.

All of a sudden they try to take that, go smoke a joint again,

and all of a sudden smoking the joint makes them sick.

They can't stand it anymore. I had one guy who he was, he was

a biker and he was a Vietnam, he was a Iraqi war vet and he got,

he got saved, healed and delivered in the same prayer.

And when he walked out to get on his Harley, had this great big

Knucklehead bike. I think they call them

Knuckleheads. But anyway, he had this big, big

bike and he got on his bike and he went to put a piece of cha

tobacco cha in his mouth. And as he got started to bike,

he had to stop the bike and get off the bike because it made him

so sick he was throwing up. And from that day that he got

healed of his PTSD, he didn't drink, he didn't do drugs, he

didn't smoke. He didn't even take a jaw

anymore because he didn't need it anymore because God had

healed him. So the power to make choices is

affected by trauma as well. Number three, let me say this,

Your emotions are affected by trauma.

And so whether you have difficulty with negative

emotions or or just kind of manic emotions, God wants to

heal that. Or if you feel numb on the

inside, God wants to restore your soul to such an extent that

he wants to help you experience again what it means to actually

feel and feel normal again. The last thing that trauma

effects is your identity, who you are in Jesus.

And this is so significant because you see, you need to

understand something. Jesus went through all the

trauma of the day of crucifixion to to show us not only what God

is willing to do to bring you to fellowship with him, but

actually what he provides to bring healing to us.

Next slide, please. There it is.

See Jesus suffered trauma on your behalf so that your trauma

could be healed. His body experienced the 39

whippings where the flesh was literally torn off of his body

and he was humiliated before he went to the cross.

When the the word in Isaiah 53 five says by his wounds we are

healed. The word there in the Hebrew is

literally means by His scourging.

By His scourging there was a redemptive power that was

released into the earth. And so we can know that no

matter how bad your trauma has been, nobody else may understand

your trauma. But I know one that does and His

name is Jesus and if you will come to him and believe him for

the power to be freed from your trauma, he will heal you and

restore you in Jesus name. In my closing moments here, I

want to show you just a really quick video, a testimony video

of a man just like you and me who had a very traumatic

situation with his son when his son was one year of age.

And even though God healed his son and his son was doing well,

he carried PTSD for five years from that incident.

So could we show video #8 please?

This is at Andrew Womack's place. close it off.

I think he got it, don't you? I, I told yesterday, he, during

the five years he had PTSD, he got, he got kind of crazy with

it a little bit. And he would, he lived in a

cul-de-sac in Colorado Springs and he would go around and talk

to his neighbors about his PTSD all the time.

And he realized that he had kind of, you know, caused a problem

in the neighborhood. So after he got healed of PTSD

and he was completely free, he went to every neighbor and

apologized to them for driving them crazy for the last five

years. And it actually started a

conversation with his neighbors that ended up they had a book

study. He led a book study on my book

in his home. And many of his neighbors got

healed of their trauma and PTSD. Isn't that cool?

I mean, that's what it's all about, right?

It really is. So go back to the PowerPoint if

you would, guys. Next slide in Japanese art

culture, there's this amazing process called Kinsugi or

kinsukuroi. And when a piece of pottery

that's a a, a dream that design of a creator is broken, they

don't just throw it away and try to make a new one.

They actually take the pieces and they put the pieces back

together with gold or silver lacquer so that the original

dream and design of the creator is fully restored.

But now that piece of art is more beautiful and more valuable

for having been broken in the 1st place.

It's a glorious, just concept of God's desire for you and I that

God has always had a dream and desire for us to live our lives

the way that he created us to be.

And so much of the evil and the pain and the disaster and the

devastation of our lives was never part of God's design for

us. But God wants us to know that no

matter how much we've been through, no matter how old we

are, that the dream of God is still available for, for us

today, if we'll just simply ask him for it.

Go to the next slide, the last one.

This is what he wants to do for your soul.

He wants to restore your soul like David's, to bring

restoration to the dream of God for your life.

He wants to show you the dreams that He still has for you if

you'll just quit allowing the devil to define you by your

trauma and instead be defined by who your Father calls you.

So in this last couple of minutes, would you just take

your hand, your right hand, and put it on your chest?

Here, keep your eyes open because I like to pray with

people who keep their eyes open. Holy Spirit, I just ask you to

come in power right now. Come in power right now.

Come with the power of your love, Your grace, and Your

mercy. Holy Spirit, that you would show

to each one of us the wounds and the shattering of our souls from

the traumatic things that you never intended for us.

In the name of Jesus, I speak healing and restoration.

Every soul here. I break the power and I cancel

and sever the assignments of the powers of darkness, of trauma,

of torment and a fear. I specifically address the

spirits of suicide and of addiction and of panic and

anxiety and of self hatred in this room right now.

In Jesus name. I declare in the name of Jesus.

Not today Satan. We're not going to listen to

that stuff any longer. In Jesus name I pray right now

for the Shalom of God to come upon every soul, that they would

not only receive peace, but there would come restoration and

there would come wholeness of soul, the mind.

Matter of fact, pray this with me, Holy Spirit, heal my wounded

soul, heal my mind, heal my will, heal my emotions and

restore my identity back to your original dream for me.

I renounce and I reject trauma as the story of my life, and I

choose to no longer be defined by my history, what I have done,

what's been done to me by my family, or what I've witnessed.

I choose to be defined by who you call me, that I am your

beloved child in whom you're well pleased right now.

Now real quick, put your hand up here and then I'm just going to

pray this over you as we close. In the name of Jesus, I pray

right now for every traumatic image and memory that you still

carry that still causes nightmares, night flash

flashbacks, and night terrors. I command every traumatic image

and memory to dry up right now that your memory center wake up

to begin to remember the good things about your life, that

your short term memory skills be returned to you and every

traumatic image and memory be gone.

Right now in Jesus name. I command your sleep center to

be reset back to the natural circadian rhythms that you were

born with and beginning tonight, that the Lord would give you 6

to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep in Jesus name.

And I pray right now, Holy Spirit, that you would come and

occupy every place in these people's lives that has been

occupied by trauma. Fill them, Lord, with your love,

your joy, your peace, and your power.

In Jesus name. I pray and all God's people

said, would you give thanks to God?
