  1. Welcome to Ontario Community Church, where we are encouraging, equipping, and engaging lives for Christ.

  2. ! I'm Pastor Patrick Daly, and each week I share sermons that balance the grace and love of Jesus Christ with the truth of the Word of God.

  3. Together, we'll explore Scripture using observation, interpretation, and application.

  4. This helps us discover practical ways to live out our faith every single day.

  5. Let's dive in together into God's Word.

  6. So at this time, I'd like to go ahead and let's dim the lights real quick.

  7. I have a video for you.

  8. And this video, I hope you enjoy it.

  9. This was also, this was made by artificial intelligence, which is kind of a pretty incredible thing that we can help bring Scripture to life.

  10. So, I hope you enjoy.

  11. Lord, when did I see you hungry?

  12. When did I see you thirsty?

  13. Oh.

  14. When did I welcome you, a stranger?

  15. When did I see you?

  16. You're needing clothes.

  17. When were you sick, Lord?

  18. And when were you in prison?

  19. Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for Christ.

  20. It's really powerful how technology changes so quickly.

  21. It was just a couple years ago where you might have seen that famous Will Smith trying to eat spaghetti.

  22. And you could tell it was made by a computer.

  23. You could tell it was fake.

  24. And we're hitting a point where it's almost, it looks pretty realistic.

  25. And like any tool, whether Google or the internet or any sort of technology that we have, it is important for us to use the tools that we have for good.

  26. Like any tool, we can use it for good or we can use it for evil.

  27. And this is one of the examples.

  28. You've seen the short video of the children in the marketplace.

  29. You might have seen one of the other videos that I've had.

  30. And here is another video showing the realness of this parable of the sheep and the goats.

  31. Of how important it is for us to consider our neighbor.

  32. We are saved by grace through faith, you see.

  33. And we are called to grow in Christ, to be transformed by Him.

  34. And in that, there should be this continued growth process to become more like Christ.

  35. To where we exhibit love and kindness and generosity.

  36. And also standing firm on the truth of God's Word.

  37. It is this great balance between grace and truth.

  38. And part of this love, becoming more like Christ, is to feed those that are hungry.

  39. To help those that are thirsty and to welcome those who are a stranger.

  40. It kind of hits home when you see images like that.

  41. Thinking of how can we as Christians, as the body of Christ, consider our neighbor.

  42. We have to think how we were once lost.

  43. But now we are found.

  44. That we were once blind.

  45. And now we see.

  46. That same kind of love that God has for us.

  47. Is the kind of love that we should exhibit for others.

  48. We did the scripture reading today.

  49. From the Gospel of Matthew.

  50. Now, you don't have to raise your hand.

  51. I'm sure that most of you have read.

  52. Have seen films.

  53. Or have at least know.

  54. Have some understanding about the sheep and the goats.

  55. And this part of the Gospel of Matthew.

  56. It helps us.

  57. We see that there's this sort of trifecta that's happening.

  58. This continuing of parables.

  59. Of these short stories.

  60. That are simple.

  61. But yet they have such depth.

  62. It is part of the grand narrative.

  63. What I want you to understand.

  64. When you consider.

  65. When you consider God's word.

  66. It is all part of a love story.

  67. Between God and his people.

  68. The salvation story.

  69. Where God sends his son into the world.

  70. The miracles that Christ perform.

  71. Healing the sick.

  72. Walking on water.

  73. Turning water into wine.

  74. And teaching crowds as well.

  75. And let's not forget, of course, the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

  76. All showing part of this narrative that God has in love for humanity.

  77. And from the beginning.

  78. From the very foundation of the earth.

  79. God had a plan.

  80. For us.

  81. For you.

  82. And it's important for us to recognize.

  83. That God loves you.

  84. No matter what it is you have been through in life.

  85. No matter what sort of pain or suffering or anguish you have experienced.

  86. In those times where we feel alone.

  87. In those times where we have been betrayed by people.

  88. Or even when we've had a good life.

  89. God is there for us.

  90. And he is extending an invitation for you.

  91. To come to the wedding feast, as it were.

  92. This invitation is a time for us to decide.

  93. Are we going to respond?

  94. For many of us, we may have received an invitation to a party.

  95. If you haven't, let's talk sometime.

  96. I'll invite you.

  97. Let's make a party sometime.

  98. So you at least experience it.

  99. Amen?

  100. Receiving an invitation is something that is remarkable.

  101. It is powerful.

  102. It is powerful.

  103. For you to be invited.

  104. To celebrate someone's anniversary or someone's birthday party.

  105. It is very similar when it comes to the Lord.

  106. That he invites you into salvation.

  107. Into the vineyard.

  108. Into the wedding feast.

  109. there's many different images that we can think of, we can consider.

  110. And when we go into this parable here, the sheep and the goats,

  111. it is important for us to recognize how many of you know,

  112. and we should all know this, but if you don't, that's okay.

  113. So don't raise your hand.

  114. So how many of you know the story of the flood of Noah and the ark?

  115. Some of you may have heard this when you were a child,

  116. or maybe it's the first time you have heard it,

  117. where there's a great flood that happens.

  118. Well, there is an echo and a connection that we find that there is a time

  119. for us to get to safety, for us to get to security before a grand storm comes.

  120. Storm that is going to happen.

  121. This flood that is representing judgment that happens for the people on the earth.

  122. And it's hard for us to understand why would there be a flood?

  123. And I'm not going to go so much into that,

  124. but for us to understand at least that there was a time for safety.

  125. There was a time for people to get into the ark.

  126. A time before the storm.

  127. And in this parable, we see that God gives us time,

  128. but he does not give us forever.

  129. There is a certain amount of time for us to respond to Christ's salvation,

  130. to respond to the invitation,

  131. and for us to think,

  132. do I want to have Jesus at the center of my life?

  133. Do I want to have Christ as my Savior and Lord?

  134. Do I want to know Jesus and be in his presence,

  135. to know him and be in that relationship with him?

  136. Well, maybe you have already responded to that invitation.

  137. Maybe you haven't.

  138. Maybe there's a time where you've had an invitation card,

  139. and you're like, I don't want to go.

  140. Let's be honest here.

  141. We've gotten those.

  142. Maybe it's your class reunion.

  143. Whatever it may be.

  144. Maybe it's that friend you didn't really care for,

  145. and now they want to be friends.

  146. Whatever it is.

  147. Maybe you have that card, that invitation,

  148. and you haven't even thought about it.

  149. But in any case,

  150. God has extended that invitation for you to know him,

  151. and to be in a relationship with the creator of the heavens and the earth

  152. is profound.

  153. It is remarkable.

  154. You mean to tell me that God who made the universe,

  155. the planetary systems,

  156. the black holes and the nebulas,

  157. I'm not even going to pretend I understand these things.

  158. But the same God that made all of this,

  159. made us,

  160. and invites us to his wedding feast,

  161. praise God.

  162. We thank him for that.

  163. And so,

  164. there is,

  165. have you responded to that invitation from Christ?

  166. I want you,

  167. let's open our Bibles real quick

  168. to the Gospel of Matthew chapter 25.

    Matthew 25 chapter mention

  169. And I want to kind of show you

  170. what is happening here.

  171. We can go to that next slide

  172. as we're turning our Bibles,

  173. or the ESVP Bible is page 987,

  174. or you're welcome to use

  175. whatever Bible of your choice.

  176. It's important for us as Christians,

  177. as we grow in Christ,

  178. to recognize the patterns

  179. and the consistency within Scripture.

  180. For many of us,

  181. we may read the same verse over and over,

  182. and yet God will speak to us

  183. at a certain moment in our lives.

  184. Amen?

  185. It is truly remarkable.

  186. So,

  187. page 987,

  188. the Gospel of Matthew chapter 25.

    Matthew 25 chapter mention

  189. It begins with the parable of the ten virgins.

  190. How many of you remember that one?

  191. Just going over it real quick,

  192. was there's these ten virgins,

  193. and they're waiting for the feast.

  194. They're waiting for the bridegroom to return.

  195. And what's strange is there's some of them

  196. that were prepared,

  197. and they had oil in their lamps,

  198. and some of them didn't.

  199. Well, can't you share?

  200. The oil is a representation of the Holy Spirit

  201. and how they were filled,

  202. so to speak.

  203. And they were ready,

  204. right?

  205. That's the main theme from that parable,

  206. is preparation.

  207. Ready the way for the Lord,

  208. as it were.

  209. Considering how Christ is teaching,

  210. the importance for us to be prepared

  211. when Christ returns.

  212. Amen?

  213. And then it leads us into the parable of the talents.

  214. Many of us know that.

  215. We've gone over this before.

  216. Where it talks about how God gives us

  217. our time,

  218. our talent,

  219. and our treasures.

  220. And we are to steward what God has given to us,

  221. our very life,

  222. our very resources,

  223. and how important it is for us to audit

  224. what God has given to us.

  225. Consider your gifts.

  226. Consider your time.

  227. Are you at least giving something back to the Lord

  228. who gave you everything?

  229. That's important for us to think about.

  230. So this would be what we would think of

  231. as the stewardship.

  232. And then,

  233. turn over a page,

  234. and to page 988,

  235. we have the final judgment then.

  236. Where?

  237. Well,

  238. this is where I'm mentioning this trifecta,

  239. this triad of parables that are happening.

  240. The ten virgins,

  241. the talents,

  242. and the sheep of the goats,

  243. they're all connected about

  244. one thing that's happening.

  245. The final judgment

  246. and the return of Christ.

  247. For the talents,

  248. it's the return of the master.

  249. For the ten virgins,

  250. it's the return of the bridegroom.

  251. And then in verse,

  252. when we see,

  253. in verse 31,

  254. when the Son of Man comes in His glory

  255. and all the angels with Him,

  256. then He will sit on His glorious throne.

  257. That is a beautiful image of what is to come.

  258. Amen?

  259. Very important for us.

  260. It is connected.

  261. And what I want you to really think about

  262. when we think of these three parables

  263. is that we are in

  264. a certain time period,

  265. as it were.

  266. Some of us may know of it

  267. as the church age.

  268. Some of us may know it

  269. as the age of salvation

  270. or the day of grace.

  271. Whatever you want to call it,

  272. it is important for us to know

  273. that there is an allotted time

  274. before time is up.

  275. It's just like any invitation

  276. that we receive.

  277. The party is going to be on Tuesday.

  278. You're not going to respond

  279. on a Wednesday, right?

  280. Unless you lost your mail.

  281. I get it.

  282. Okay?

  283. But the idea is that

  284. there is a time.

  285. A time for you to respond

  286. to any RSVP, right?

  287. To RSVP, to a letter,

  288. to pay your bills on time.

  289. We think of that

  290. when it comes to the earth.

  291. But there's a time for us

  292. that God allows us here on the earth

  293. to respond to His salvation

  294. in faith.

  295. The age of grace,

  296. the time of salvation

  297. before the return.

  298. And so,

  299. the Son of Man arrives

  300. in glory with the angels.

  301. We find that in Daniel

  302. and also in Revelation.

  303. We're not going to turn there,

  304. but it's very important

  305. to see that consistency,

  306. the mentioning of the Son of Man.

  307. Then going into verse 32

  308. where it says,

  309. before Him will be gathered

  310. all the nations

  311. and He will separate people

  312. as a shepherd separates

  313. the sheep from the goats.

  314. Now, very often in parables

  315. we have found

  316. there's this separation, right?

  317. There is the separating

  318. of fish, right?

  319. There's the separating

  320. of the sheep and the goats.

  321. There's the separation

  322. that happened between

  323. the foolish virgins

  324. and the wise virgins, right?

  325. The Scripture likes to talk

  326. a lot about these distinctions

  327. between the righteous

  328. and the unrighteous.

  329. It's important for us

  330. to see this judgment,

  331. as it were,

  332. that is going to happen.

  333. The shepherd in this case

  334. is separating the sheep.

  335. The right representing honor

  336. and representing shelter

  337. and safety

  338. and from the goats

  339. representing exposure

  340. and judgment.

  341. A fun fact that I found

  342. about sheep and goats,

  343. if you ever found a shepherd,

  344. separating that in biblical times

  345. and even now,

  346. is that sheep have what?

  347. What do you want from sheep

  348. that you cut

  349. and you use it for clothing?

  350. I'm giving tons of hints here.

  351. You want wool, right?

  352. And you use wool for clothing, right?

  353. And the idea is that

  354. when you have sheep,

  355. well, they're warm

  356. because they have all this wool

  357. all over them.

  358. And goats, on the other hand,

  359. are more vulnerable

  360. than they are of sheep.

  361. I found that to be very interesting

  362. that when you found shepherds

  363. doing that,

  364. that was a common thing

  365. that happened then

  366. and can be.

  367. I mean, there are shepherds

  368. still today,

  369. but very interesting to see that,

  370. that there's this exposure

  371. to the elements, as it were.

  372. When we think of Christ,

  373. the great shepherd,

  374. separating the sheep of the goats,

  375. how they are exposed, as it were.

  376. Now, we're not going to say

  377. that wool is protection and whatnot,

  378. but it's still interesting nonetheless.

  379. And so, we even consider

  380. the separation of the wheat

  381. and the weeds,

  382. if we remember that, right?

  383. How the chaff is going to be burned.

  384. And we think of how the wheat

  385. is stored up and placed

  386. into a barn.

  387. All of these things

  388. are happening, right?

  389. We go into verse 33.

  390. He will place the sheep

  391. on his right and on his left,

  392. the goats on the left.

  393. Then the king will say

  394. to those on his right,

  395. come, you are blessed

  396. by my father.

  397. Inherit the kingdom

  398. prepared for you.

  399. How many of you

  400. have your Bibles open?

  401. What does it say?

  402. From when?

  403. From the foundation, right?

  404. Of the world.

  405. And that's so important.

  406. It should give us comfort

  407. to see the consistency

  408. that's found within Scripture

  409. that God had a plan all along.

  410. Now, here's the crazy thing

  411. about God is that

  412. how many of us understand God fully?

  413. Don't raise your hand.

  414. I should put my hand down

  415. for a second here.

  416. That God is so vast.

  417. He's limitless.

  418. And it kind of,

  419. it really messes with your mind

  420. when you think about

  421. how much God loves you

  422. and how God is beyond

  423. the space and time continuum.

  424. Right?

  425. That God is outside of that

  426. and that his ways

  427. are higher than our ways

  428. and yet we're called

  429. to seek the higher things.

  430. We're called to seek

  431. the things of God.

  432. That really humbles you

  433. for a moment.

  434. If it doesn't humble you,

  435. then look in a telescope sometime.

  436. Look at a microscope sometime.

  437. I'm always shocked

  438. when I go on YouTube

  439. and I see these videos of the,

  440. it shows a little dot of the earth

  441. and then it shows like

  442. this black hole

  443. that's about, you know,

  444. 50,000 times the size of earth.

  445. And I'm like,

  446. that's just a black hole.

  447. That's not even considering

  448. galaxies and the universe.

  449. And that certainly

  450. doesn't even factor in

  451. how big our God is

  452. who made all of that

  453. with such intentionality

  454. and with such intricacy.

  455. We think of,

  456. it's more known in,

  457. for those of you

  458. who study apologetics,

  459. it's known as the clock

  460. and the clock maker.

  461. We look at a clock,

  462. we know that somebody

  463. had to at least program

  464. the digital, right?

  465. But the idea is

  466. the clock is ticking

  467. and somebody has to

  468. have the right tools

  469. and have everything needed

  470. in order for it to work.

  471. And so,

  472. going back here,

  473. we see that as,

  474. as we go into verse 34 onward,

  475. let's go to verse 35,

  476. for I was hungry,

  477. you gave me food,

  478. I was thirsty,

  479. you gave me drink,

  480. I was a stranger

  481. and you welcomed me,

  482. I was naked and you clothed me,

  483. I was sick and you visited me,

  484. I was in prison

  485. and you came to me.

  486. There are six mercies

  487. that are mentioned here,

  488. okay?

  489. And these six mercies are,

  490. look,

  491. these are examples

  492. of how we can minister

  493. to other people,

  494. right?

  495. When's the last time

  496. you ran into somebody,

  497. don't answer this,

  498. the last time you ran into

  499. somebody who was hungry

  500. or somebody who needed

  501. a drink,

  502. you know,

  503. they were thirsty,

  504. they're out in the field,

  505. I mean,

  506. with the weather,

  507. how it's been,

  508. you know,

  509. there's a lot of them out there.

  510. It's certainly been hotter.

  511. People need,

  512. they need a drink of water

  513. kind of thing.

  514. The stranger and welcoming.

  515. How many of you have met

  516. someone who's new to the area

  517. and you want to welcome them,

  518. have that sense of hospitality

  519. for others?

  520. Naked in clothing,

  521. that's kind of a harder one,

  522. but it still exists today.

  523. Much like all of these,

  524. aren't people still hungry?

  525. Aren't people still hungry?

  526. I'm thirsty.

  527. Don't people still need clothes?

  528. They absolutely do.

  529. We think of basic needs.

  530. Now,

  531. we also have

  532. sick and visitation

  533. and prison and care.

  534. It's important for us to note

  535. when we consider

  536. those that were in prison,

  537. it's very different

  538. than how we understand

  539. prisons today.

  540. In prisons today,

  541. you have a bed,

  542. you have,

  543. typically,

  544. you have meals and stuff,

  545. at least when we think of

  546. how things should be run.

  547. Now,

  548. when we're considering

  549. in biblical times,

  550. though,

  551. they were just locked away

  552. and for you to give someone

  553. food or drink

  554. or clothing,

  555. that was showing love

  556. because they didn't have it.

  557. And so,

  558. we think of that

  559. kind of hospitality,

  560. that type of love

  561. that we have

  562. for other people.

  563. it's exhibiting

  564. the love of Christ

  565. sort of thing.

  566. And so,

  567. it goes on

  568. in Scripture here

  569. where the six mercies

  570. are met,

  571. right,

  572. where Christ is saying,

  573. look,

  574. you did all of these things.

  575. You considered my neighbor.

  576. And so,

  577. what I want you to realize

  578. when you're reading this

  579. is how

  580. don't take this as,

  581. well,

  582. you're saved

  583. by all of that work.

  584. No.

  585. This work

  586. is because

  587. you have been

  588. saved,

  589. when we think of us

  590. as Christians,

  591. because you have been

  592. saved by grace

  593. through faith,

  594. you therefore

  595. should grow

  596. and do good

  597. in the name of Christ.

  598. Unfortunately,

  599. there are people

  600. who will read this

  601. and say,

  602. well,

  603. you gotta only focus

  604. on doing good.

  605. You gotta only focus

  606. on that

  607. and not focus

  608. on Christ,

  609. which certainly

  610. there are still needs

  611. of people

  612. that need to be met.

  613. I'm not denying that.

  614. But when it comes

  615. to Scripture

  616. and when it comes

  617. to us following

  618. in the footsteps

  619. of Christ,

  620. the first thing

  621. we must do

  622. is to receive

  623. that gift

  624. and respond

  625. to the invitation

  626. of Christ.

  627. And when we consider

  628. all of these works,

  629. there's works

  630. that there is work

  631. that we should do

  632. for others,

  633. which shows

  634. the fruit

  635. that we bear.

  636. For those of you,

  637. you may think

  638. of how Scripture

  639. talks about

  640. the seed planted

  641. into the ground

  642. and growing

  643. and bearing fruit.

  644. Very agricultural language.

  645. But that is a representation

  646. of how we receive salvation,

  647. we receive the Word,

  648. it grows in us,

  649. we grow,

  650. and we bear fruit.

  651. What an amazing opportunity

  652. for us

  653. to serve our neighbor.

  654. That's a way

  655. to produce fruit.

  656. And that's very powerful

  657. for us to have

  658. that care

  659. and that compassion

  660. for people.

  661. It goes on

  662. later on in the text

  663. where basically

  664. you have those,

  665. the goats,

  666. that are not really,

  667. they're not caring.

  668. They're not caring

  669. for those in need.

  670. And you have the sheep

  671. that, well,

  672. they know their shepherd,

  673. amen?

  674. They know what to do.

  675. And that's

  676. very beautiful

  677. because we go on

  678. even into

  679. the ending.

  680. Truly I said to you,

  681. as you did not do it

  682. for one of the least

  683. of these,

  684. you did not do it to me

  685. as he's speaking

  686. to the goats,

  687. as it were.

  688. Verse 46,

  689. and these will go away

  690. into eternal punishment,

  691. but the righteous

  692. into eternal life.

  693. And so,

  694. for your homework sometime,

  695. go to Ezekiel 34.

  696. We don't have time

  697. to go over

  698. to Ezekiel 34.

  699. But go into

  700. that part of the text

  701. and you'll see

  702. that even in

  703. the Old Testament

  704. there was mentioning

  705. a final judgment

  706. of sheep and goats.

  707. It's really remarkable.

  708. Especially when it talks

  709. in verse 17

  710. about what is to come.

  711. That Yahweh,

  712. that God,

  713. will separate

  714. from the sheep

  715. and the goats

  716. for you Bible scholars there.

  717. And so,

  718. also,

  719. it's important for us

  720. when we think of us,

  721. we should all be sheep,

  722. right?

  723. Don't raise your hand

  724. if you're a goat,

  725. right?

  726. It's important for us

  727. to,

  728. and any goats

  729. in here,

  730. right?

  731. It's important

  732. for us to

  733. become a sheep

  734. and to follow

  735. the shepherd,

  736. the great shepherd

  737. represented in Christ.

  738. And so,

  739. in being part of,

  740. in being saved,

  741. we are inheritors

  742. that we're going

  743. to inherit.

  744. Salvation,

  745. the kingdom,

  746. it's all part

  747. of God's plan

  748. to be an heir

  749. and to inherit,

  750. as it mentions

  751. in Romans chapter 8.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  752. I know I'm mentioning

  753. a bunch of verses here.

  754. A lot of those

  755. are on your notes here,

  756. but if not,

  757. just come talk to me after.

  758. And so,

  759. that's what we find

  760. in Scripture

  761. regarding this.

  762. This is just

  763. within the observation here.

  764. The response

  765. to the least of these,

  766. it matters,

  767. and then the

  768. eternal destinies

  769. that we have

  770. an allotted time

  771. here on earth,

  772. and certainly,

  773. we have an allotted time

  774. for us

  775. to respond

  776. to the gospel

  777. of Jesus Christ.

  778. This should hit home

  779. for you

  780. on the question

  781. of whether or not

  782. you have responded

  783. to the gospel.

  784. Let's go to that

  785. next slide then.

  786. What can we learn

  787. from this here?

  788. First one,

  789. church,

  790. what does it say?

  791. Ready the way,

  792. be a steward.

  793. So,

  794. the ten virgins,

  795. it's about readiness.

  796. The parable

  797. of the talents,

  798. it's about stewardship.

  799. The sheep

  800. and the goats,

  801. it's about

  802. living and loving

  803. like Christ,

  804. showing that love

  805. in action.

  806. In other words,

  807. when we think

  808. of all of that

  809. Matthew 25

  810. and how it's connected

  811. with the sheep

  812. and the goats,

  813. we have got to prepare

  814. for the coming

  815. of Christ.

  816. We have got to respond

  817. to the gospel.

  818. We have got to say

  819. yes to the Lord.

  820. God,

  821. and in this,

  822. in this life

  823. that we have,

  824. let us continue

  825. to grow,

  826. becoming more

  827. like Christ,

  828. be putting on

  829. the new self,

  830. setting aside

  831. the former things

  832. and stewarding

  833. all that God

  834. has given to us

  835. and knowing

  836. that in the end

  837. there will be

  838. a final judgment

  839. but we don't have

  840. to worry about

  841. that final judgment.

  842. Amen?

  843. We get to,

  844. we know where

  845. we're going

  846. and that's a beautiful

  847. thing.

  848. The second thing,

  849. church,

  850. what does it say?

  851. from grace

  852. comes work.

  853. Now,

  854. it's very important

  855. for me to touch

  856. on this.

  857. As I've been mentioning,

  858. God gives us time

  859. but not forever.

  860. The final accountability

  861. is certain.

  862. It leads us to

  863. from grace

  864. comes work.

  865. Now,

  866. this is where we get

  867. into semantics

  868. and the order

  869. in which things happen

  870. but listen,

  871. when we think

  872. of what scripture

  873. tells us,

  874. we are saved

  875. by grace

  876. through faith.

  877. We should all know this

  878. and if you haven't,

  879. you should know it now.

  880. Right?

  881. Saved by grace

  882. through faith.

  883. Believing in the death,

  884. burial,

  885. and resurrection

  886. of Jesus Christ.

  887. That is the most

  888. important decision

  889. that you can make

  890. for your entire life

  891. because not only

  892. does it affect

  893. the life,

  894. your life here

  895. on the earth,

  896. it affects

  897. your eternal life

  898. and because of this,

  899. because of the grace

  900. that you receive

  901. from the Lord,

  902. you gotta grow

  903. and from that growth

  904. comes doing good.

  905. Doing good

  906. in the name of Christ

  907. in the words

  908. that you speak

  909. and the actions

  910. that you do.

  911. That certainly doesn't mean

  912. that we're perfect.

  913. Amen?

  914. Got any perfect people

  915. in here?

  916. Raise your hand.

  917. I want to see

  918. who you are.

  919. Right?

  920. But seriously,

  921. when we think about it,

  922. we are a work in progress

  923. that God is going

  924. to continue to work

  925. in our lives

  926. every single day

  927. until the very end.

  928. That is a remarkable thing

  929. to think of the imagery

  930. of how God is the potter

  931. and we are the clay,

  932. we are the work

  933. of God's hands,

  934. continuing to be molded

  935. as we're spinning

  936. round and round

  937. in this life.

  938. Amen?

  939. We think about that.

  940. And so when we think,

  941. look,

  942. salvation is

  943. by grace

  944. through faith

  945. and our actions,

  946. our words,

  947. our deeds,

  948. this is evidence

  949. of the faith

  950. that we have in Christ.

  951. and it is measured

  952. even at the final judgment.

  953. So in other words,

  954. it's like they're going

  955. to inspect your fruit,

  956. right?

  957. If you think about it.

  958. And so it's important

  959. for us that

  960. if you are a new believer,

  961. if you just

  962. made a decision

  963. for Christ,

  964. you just responded

  965. to the invitation,

  966. be on a path

  967. to know the word of God,

  968. to know what it means

  969. to be a Christian

  970. and be moved

  971. by the grace of God

  972. through the working

  973. of the Holy Spirit

  974. to serve the Lord,

  975. serve the community,

  976. be that ambassador

  977. from grace

  978. that flows

  979. from grace

  980. comes works.

  981. And then finally,

  982. third,

  983. what does that third one

  984. say, church?

  985. Christ is there

  986. for the least, right?

  987. For the least of these.

  988. And we think of how

  989. many times in Scripture

  990. Christ was dining

  991. with sinners

  992. sinners.

  993. What?

  994. Why?

  995. Christ is dining.

  996. He's caring for the least

  997. of these,

  998. showing how

  999. if we are to become

  1000. like Christ,

1001. if we are to be

  1002. on this path

  1003. and follow in the

  1004. footsteps of Christ,

  1005. we too

  1006. have got to exhibit

1007. the same kind of love

  1008. towards other people.

  1009. I've mentioned before

  1010. how Scripture

  1011. likes to talk about

  1012. the misfits

  1013. of society.

  1014. That's really

  1015. strange.

  1016. You would think

  1017. the Lord would want

  1018. to hang out

1019. with all the cool kids,

  1020. right?

  1021. You'd think He'd want

  1022. to, you know,

  1023. and He does.

  1024. He hangs out

  1025. with everybody,

  1026. but the main thing

  1027. here,

  1028. the least of these,

  1029. the implication

  1030. is that

  1031. we all need

  1032. that which is perfect.

  1033. We all need

  1034. the light

  1035. of Christ.

  1036. We all need

  1037. the abundant grace

  1038. and the everlasting love

  1039. that comes from God.

1040. Because let me tell you,

  1041. my ability

  1042. to love

  1043. on my own,

  1044. to love

  1045. as a human being,

  1046. is very

  1047. limited.

  1048. But when it comes,

1049. when it comes to God,

  1050. His love

  1051. is everlasting.

  1052. He is

  1053. consistent.

  1054. His love

  1055. never fails.

  1056. He doesn't

  1057. change.

  1058. And so,

  1059. let us consider

  1060. how we are

  1061. to be like Christ

  1062. in serving

  1063. the least of these.

  1064. Think about

  1065. for a moment,

  1066. who is someone

  1067. you can serve?

  1068. This leads us

  1069. into the application,

  1070. how should we

  1071. live, right?

  1072. Because here

  1073. at Ontario Community,

  1074. we observe the text,

  1075. right?

  1076. We read Scripture.

  1077. Amen?

  1078. That's important for us.

  1079. The second thing

  1080. is we interpret it.

  1081. We learn the lessons

  1082. from Scripture.

  1083. And thirdly,

  1084. is we apply it

  1085. to our very lives.

  1086. We want to have

  1087. the head knowledge,

  1088. but we also want

  1089. to have the heart

  1090. to love.

  1091. And so,

  1092. the first thing,

  1093. respond when?

  1094. Now.

  1095. We are to respond

  1096. to the gospel

  1097. of Jesus Christ

  1098. to seize

  1099. the day

  1100. of salvation.

  1101. And it's important

  1102. for us to know,

  1103. I don't know

1104. if this will give you

  1105. anxiety or not,

  1106. but no one knows

1107. the day or the hour

  1108. when Christ will return.

  1109. For some people,

  1110. you're like,

  1111. well,

1112. when are you coming back?

  1113. For some of us,

1114. we may want to know

  1115. exactly the date

  1116. and the time

  1117. and even the second

  1118. and the millisecond

1119. when Christ will come back.

  1120. But what's important

1121. is that that is up to God.

  1122. When Christ will return.

  1123. And there's been

  1124. so many books

1125. and people who have said,

  1126. you know,

  1127. it's the Y2K,

  1128. if you remember,

  1129. if you guys remember

  1130. that one.

  1131. Right?

1132. Or Jesus will come back

  1133. in 1988.

  1134. I think I've mentioned

  1135. this one before.

  1136. 88 Reasons Why Christ

  1137. Will Return in 1988.

1138. It is a real book.

1139. You'll look it up sometime.

  1140. I probably was a bestseller

  1141. in 1987.

  1142. I don't know about 1988,

  1143. though.

  1144. So,

  1145. you might find it

  1146. on discount somewhere,

  1147. right?

  1148. But the thing is,

1149. no one knows the hour.

1150. No one knows the hour

  1151. when Christ will return.

  1152. We don't know

1153. how long we'll even have

  1154. here on the earth.

  1155. We don't know

1156. when the king will return.

  1157. What matters

  1158. is seizing the moment,

  1159. responding to the gospel,

  1160. stewarding your life

  1161. and considering,

  1162. thinking about

  1163. how are you going

  1164. to live your life

  1165. in honor,

  1166. to honor,

1167. and to glorify the Lord.

  1168. Consider what really matters.

  1169. Your faith walk,

  1170. your brothers and sisters

  1171. in Christ,

  1172. certainly your family,

1173. all of these things matter.

  1174. Respond to him.

  1175. Respond to that invitation

  1176. and be transformed.

  1177. Begin on that journey

1178. and live your life in him.

  1179. Receive and respond

  1180. to the invitation.

1181. Just think for a moment

  1182. that imagery

  1183. of the wedding feast

  1184. and receiving

  1185. that letter.

1186. Are you going to say yes?

1187. Are you going to put it

  1188. on the table?

1189. What are you going to do

  1190. for God's call

  1191. for your life?

  1192. And salvation

  1193. is free.

  1194. It is here.

  1195. It is available

  1196. for you.

  1197. But let us remember,

  1198. just like what we've

  1199. talked about

  1200. in this parable,

  1201. not forever though.

  1202. And so,

  1203. respond now

  1204. and seize that day

  1205. of salvation.

  1206. The second thing then

  1207. is to practice stewardship.

  1208. I have here

  1209. your time,

  1210. talent,

  1211. and treasure

  1212. and your testimony.

  1213. I've actually added

  1214. a fourth T in here.

  1215. Consider what God

  1216. has given to you.

  1217. It's essentially

  1218. the resources

  1219. that you have,

  1220. right?

  1221. The amount of time

  1222. that you have,

  1223. how you're stewarding it,

  1224. your talents,

  1225. right?

  1226. Your gifts

  1227. and your abilities,

  1228. your treasure,

  1229. your money,

  1230. your resources

  1231. sort of thing,

  1232. but also your testimony.

  1233. Your own story

  1234. and how God

1235. has worked in your life,

  1236. how are you going

  1237. to share that

  1238. with others?

  1239. Or,

  1240. the testimony,

  1241. what we find

  1242. in Scripture.

  1243. How are you going

  1244. to share that

  1245. with other people?

  1246. And so,

  1247. consider it.

  1248. Think about it.

  1249. Take an audit

  1250. and inventory

  1251. of what God

  1252. has given to you.

  1253. How will you

  1254. use these things?

  1255. We've talked about

  1256. minas and talents,

  1257. but in any sense,

  1258. whatever God

  1259. has given to you,

  1260. steward it

  1261. and steward it well.

  1262. Never neglect

  1263. God's gift.

  1264. Steward them

1265. for the glory of God.

  1266. It's much like

  1267. how it's important

1268. for us when we think

  1269. of this final scene.

  1270. That's the,

  1271. basically,

  1272. the wedding feast.

  1273. That's towards the end,

  1274. the final judgment.

  1275. And think about it.

  1276. The master will return

  1277. and settle accounts.

1278. Just like we have found

  1279. within Scripture.

  1280. And then finally,

  1281. witness through actions,

  1282. through words,

  1283. and through deeds.

  1284. Let your words

  1285. and your actions

  1286. be consistent.

  1287. And think about those,

  1288. you guys remember

  1289. those six mercies

1290. I was talking about earlier,

  1291. right?

  1292. Feeding those

  1293. that are hungry,

  1294. giving drink to those

  1295. that are thirsty,

  1296. welcoming the stranger.

  1297. All of these things

  1298. are examples

1299. of how you can minister

  1300. to other people.

  1301. It could just be

  1302. showing up.

  1303. When I've talked about

  1304. the ministry of presence,

  1305. just showing up

1306. to someone who is in need,

  1307. whether they're sick

  1308. or they're imprisoned,

  1309. whatever it is.

  1310. Part of our ministry

  1311. is to serve others.

  1312. We serve the Lord,

1313. we serve the living God,

1314. we serve in the local church,

1315. and we serve the community

  1316. in some capacity.

  1317. So, consider,

  1318. think about one

  1319. of the six mercies

1320. to give you an idea

1321. of how to love your neighbor.

  1322. Think about that.

  1323. There are many ways

  1324. that you can serve

  1325. the local church,

  1326. the community,

  1327. your neighbor.

  1328. We are to continue

  1329. to exhibit that love

  1330. of Christ to others.

  1331. And let your actions,

  1332. let it be consistent

  1333. with what you say.

  1334. Scripture talks so much

1335. about not being a hypocrite,

  1336. right?

  1337. You want your words

  1338. and your actions

  1339. to be consistent,

1340. and that's just common sense.

  1341. I mean, that's just

  1342. in real life, right?

  1343. You don't want hypocrites

1344. just in the real world, right?

1345. Much less what you find

  1346. in Scripture.

1347. That's very important for us.

  1348. And so,

  1349. as we close here,

1350. let us really take to heart

  1351. this parable

1352. of the sheep and the goats.

1353. Ask yourself for a moment,

  1354. are you a sheep

1355. or are you a goat?

  1356. Okay?

1357. It's not about what noise

1358. you make if you're saying

1359. bah or any of that.

1360. It has nothing to do

  1361. with that, okay?

1362. But it has to do

  1363. with have you received

  1364. that invitation?

  1365. Have you said yes

  1366. to salvation?

  1367. Are you growing

  1368. and are you exhibiting

  1369. that fruit?

  1370. And so,

1371. God gives us the time

  1372. to respond

  1373. in salvation

  1374. through faith in Him.

  1375. Respond now.

  1376. Respond today

  1377. if you have not.

1378. God gives us the opportunity

  1379. to go from darkness

  1380. to light,

  1381. from the weeds

  1382. to wheat,

  1383. from goats

  1384. to sheep.

  1385. It's called transformation.

  1386. It's called

  1387. putting on

  1388. the new self

  1389. because God

  1390. is the God

  1391. of transformation.

  1392. Changing us,

  1393. changing our hearts,

  1394. changing our minds,

  1395. changing the very

  1396. essence

  1397. of who we are.

  1398. That is the beautiful

  1399. thing about our Lord

  1400. and our God.

  1401. God.

  1402. And today

  1403. is still,

  1404. we are still

1405. in the age of grace,

  1406. the day of salvation.

  1407. And when we think

  1408. of the day,

  1409. the time,

  1410. think of how

  1411. the sun is shining

  1412. as it were.

  1413. Well, just like

  1414. in any day

  1415. there comes

  1416. a sunset.

  1417. Don't let

  1418. the sunset

  1419. happen

  1420. until you,

  1421. you better know

  1422. the Lord

  1423. when that sunset

  1424. comes.

  1425. Amen?

  1426. It's important

  1427. for us.

  1428. Step into

  1429. the light

  1430. while there

  1431. is still light

  1432. and let that

  1433. light of Christ

  1434. shine and radiate

  1435. through you.

  1436. See that the

  1437. light of Christ,

  1438. it shines bright

  1439. like the sun

  1440. for you.

  1441. May you

  1442. respond to that.

  1443. Be saved

  1444. by knowing

  1445. the Lord.

  1446. Grow in Him.

  1447. Go from that

  1448. milk to solid

  1449. food of the Word

  1450. as it mentions

  1451. and Scripture

  1452. and live

  1453. in love

  1454. like Him

  1455. even with

  1456. small acts

  1457. of kindness

  1458. for others.

  1459. Just like

  1460. that video

  1461. I was showing

  1462. earlier.

  1463. It's just

  1464. a water bottle.

  1465. It's not a big,

  1466. it's small,

  1467. but it has

  1468. such a profound

  1469. impact on people.

  1470. And so,

  1471. be salt

  1472. and light

  1473. for others.

  1474. I want to turn

  1475. with you real quick

  1476. in closing.

  1477. Let's open

  1478. our Bibles

  1479. real quick.

  1480. Let's go to

  1481. Revelation.

  1482. I want you

  1483. to realize

  1484. as we're

  1485. getting closer

  1486. to the end

  1487. of this sermon,

  1488. we're getting

  1489. closer to the end

  1490. of this sermon

  1491. series,

  1492. and our next

  1493. sermon series,

  1494. Lord willing,

  1495. will be through

  1496. Revelation,

  1497. because the

  1498. parables of Christ

  1499. help us

  1500. understand

  1501. Revelation

  1502. with a lot

  1503. of its

  1504. symbolic language.

  1505. But I want

  1506. to turn

  1507. for a moment

  1508. into Revelation.

  1509. It's going

  1510. to be

  1511. Revelation 21,

  1512. it's page

  1513. 1,233

  1514. in your

  1515. ESV Pew

  1516. Bible.

  1517. And I want

  1518. to read

  1519. the first

  1520. three verses.

  1521. Church,

  1522. can we read

  1523. this together?

  1524. All right,

  1525. let's give it

  1526. a moment.

  1527. Revelation 21.

  1528. Let's read

  1529. together.

  1530. Then I saw

  1531. a new heaven

  1532. and a new earth,

  1533. for the first heaven

  1534. and the first earth

  1535. had passed away,

  1536. and the sea

  1537. was no more.

  1538. And I saw

  1539. the holy city,

  1540. new Jerusalem,

  1541. coming out

  1542. of heaven

  1543. from God,

  1544. prepared as a bride

  1545. adorned

  1546. for her husband.

  1547. And I heard

  1548. a loud voice

  1549. from the throne

  1550. saying,

  1551. Behold,

  1552. the dwelling place

  1553. of God

  1554. is with man.

  1555. He will dwell

  1556. with them,

  1557. and they

  1558. will be his people.

  1559. And God

  1560. himself will be

  1561. with them

  1562. as their God.

  1563. Let's keep reading

  1564. verse 4.

  1565. He will wipe away

  1566. every tear

  1567. from their eyes,

  1568. and death

  1569. shall be no more.

  1570. Neither shall

  1571. there be

  1572. mourning,

  1573. nor crying,

  1574. nor pain

  1575. anymore,

  1576. for the former

  1577. things have

  1578. passed away.

  1579. When we think

  1580. of the wedding

  1581. feast,

  1582. when we think

  1583. of the invitation,

  1584. when we think

  1585. of the final

  1586. judgment,

  1587. we have

  1588. hope in Christ

  1589. of what we

  1590. are waiting

  1591. for together.

  1592. And so,

  1593. church,

  1594. let this promise

  1595. move us

  1596. to respond

  1597. to the gospel

  1598. before the sun

  1599. sets.

  1600. Let's pray

  1601. together.

  1602. And Father,

  1603. we thank you

  1604. for this time

  1605. and this opportunity

  1606. to look

  1607. at this famous

  1608. part in Scripture,

  1609. this parable

  1610. of the sheep

  1611. and the goats.

  1612. May we realize

  1613. how important

  1614. it is

  1615. as we look

  1616. at the context

  1617. showing the

  1618. importance of

  1619. preparing,

  1620. stewarding,

  1621. and knowing

  1622. that there will

  1623. be a final

  1624. judgment.

  1625. We may not

  1626. understand all

  1627. the complexities

  1628. of what you

  1629. have planned,

  1630. but we know

  1631. you are in

  1632. control.

  1633. May we fully

  1634. rely in you.

  1635. May we trust

  1636. in you.

  1637. May we respond

  1638. to your gospel

  1639. by believing

  1640. in the death,

  1641. burial,

  1642. and resurrection

  1643. of Jesus Christ.

1644. May we be on a

  1645. path of following

  1646. in the footsteps

  1647. of Christ,

  1648. living,

  1649. learning what it

  1650. means to be a

  1651. Christian.

  1652. And may we go

  1653. from that milk

  1654. of the word

  1655. to solid food.

  1656. May we grow

  1657. in our understanding

  1658. of who you are.

  1659. And certainly,

  1660. Father,

  1661. we pray that we

  1662. as a church

  1663. and us as

  1664. individuals may

  1665. respond to

  1666. your gospel.

  1667. May we not be

  1668. goats.

  1669. Rather,

  1670. may we be

  1671. sheep,

  1672. knowing that

  1673. you are the

  1674. great shepherd.

  1675. And may we

  1676. follow you.

  1677. And may we

  1678. know that

  1679. after judgment

  1680. there is the

  1681. promise of the

  1682. new heaven and

  1683. new earth,

  1684. which we wait

  1685. for.

  1686. In all of these

  1687. things,

  1688. we say in the

  1689. name of Jesus

  1690. Christ,

  1691. the cornerstone

  1692. of our faith,

  1693. and we all say

  1694. together,

  1695. Amen.

  1696. Amen.

  1697. Thank you for

  1698. listening for this

  1699. week's message from

  1700. Ontario Community

  1701. Church.

  1702. I pray that you

  1703. are encouraged

  1704. and strengthened

  1705. in your walk

  1706. with Christ.

  1707. For more sermons

  1708. and resources,

  1711. May God bless you

  1712. as you live out

  1713. His grace and

  1714. truth every single

  1715. day.

  1716. Thank you.
