  1. Welcome to Ontario Community Church, where we are encouraging, equipping, and engaging lives for Christ.

  2. ! I'm Pastor Patrick Daly, and each week I seek to balance the truth of God's Word with the love of Jesus Christ.

  3. Today, we opened Revelation by reading the bookends, the beginning and the end of Revelation.

  4. This is found in Revelation chapter 1, verses 1 to 3, and Revelation chapter 22, verses 14 to 21.

    Revelation 1:1–3 Revelation 22:14–21

  5. Revelation calls us to read, hear, and keep God's Word, and invites us to place our hope in Jesus Christ.

  6. Jesus Christ says, Surely I am coming soon.

  7. And as we journey, we will look at the context of Revelation and its connections across Scripture,

  8. so our faith is strengthened and our lives are shaped by Christ.

  9. Well, good morning, everyone.

  10. It's been a long time coming. I've been talking about doing this sermon series on the book of Revelation for several weeks.

  11. Some of you have known since the beginning of the parables, some of you through the middle, and some of you towards the end.

  12. We began, many, many weeks ago, a 38-sermon series through the parables of Christ.

  13. And going through these parables, there were certain language that really began to kind of attract,

  14. to pull my own heart and my spirit to go into Revelation.

  15. You will find, before we even begin here, I want to go over this booklet.

  16. Now, this is the culmination of many weeks, many hours of preparation,

  17. searching through the Word of God, searching the Scriptures.

  18. At Ontario Community Church, we look at the context of the Word,

  19. but we also look at the connections that's found within the Word of God.

  20. Some of you have seen, how many of you have seen it by raise of hand?

  21. You've seen a picture of a rainbow.

  22. And the rainbow is showing a picture of Scripture,

  23. and it's showing all of the cross connections within each other.

  24. It might have been a circle, it might have been a rainbow,

  25. showing all the color coding with it.

  26. And there's some 42,000 connections within Scripture,

  27. which is very, not only inspiring, but something that is overwhelming.

  28. And we're not going to go over those 42,000 connections, that's for sure.

  29. But it goes to show you the beauty within Scripture.

  30. There are some references that are blatant,

  31. some that are inferred, some that are direct, and some that are indirect.

  32. And so, I want you to open this little booklet real quick,

  33. and I just want to go over what was written on here and what you're seeing here.

  34. Because as we begin through this sermon series through the book of Revelation,

  35. let us all approach God's Word with a sense of humility,

  36. unity among each other, and a willingness to follow where God leads us.

  37. As I've mentioned before and I'll mention again,

  38. our goal is to observe the text.

  39. What is going on immediately within God's Word, right?

  40. It's to observe, to read, to observe, and to hear.

  41. It is to understand.

  42. It is to learn and to grow and to keep, to apply and to live out the Word,

  43. what God has revealed to us.

  44. And how blessed we are to have the Word of God,

  45. and also so many books, so much technology and resources

  46. that we can use to be able to help us to search the Scriptures.

  47. But most importantly, it's not just technology and tools.

  48. It is the guidance of the Holy Spirit as well.

  49. Can I get an amen?

  50. Because God reveals truth.

  51. There is so much truth that's found within it.

  52. And I also wrote in here,

  53. it is in times such as these,

  54. the rise of political division,

  55. hatred among Christians,

  56. technological advances and cultural changes and other things.

  57. I mean, that's just not,

  58. it's just a few things that are going on in this world.

  59. I know we can go on and on for hours and even days

  60. about so much evil, hatred, division, disunity, disrespect.

  61. We can think of all of these things and they discourage us,

  62. they derail us.

  63. And I pray that we may come together,

  64. united as the body of Christ,

  65. in such times as this.

  66. I don't even need to begin to talk about the recent,

  67. this last week, this last two weeks.

  68. We think about these things

  69. and how important it is for us to seek God and His Word.

  70. And I've written in here,

  71. may you search the Scriptures,

  72. find the context and the connections.

  73. And my prayer for all of you

  74. is that you will grow in your faith.

  75. If you don't know Jesus Christ,

  76. may you come to believe

  77. in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  78. May you come to believe in Him.

  79. Metanoia, repentance,

  80. the changing of mind for who Christ is.

  81. May you find the connections

  82. and grow in your faith

  83. and be moved to do good in His name.

  84. It's not just about head knowledge.

  85. It's also about the changing of our heart as well

  86. and also our hands,

  87. how we act,

  88. how we speak.

  89. Because God is the God of transformation.

  90. And I want to put on here real quick,

  91. no matter where it is,

  92. many of us come from different denominational backgrounds.

  93. Some of us may be raised a conservative Baptist.

  94. Some of us may have come from a Catholic background.

  95. Some of us may have,

  96. may be one of those theological nerd, right?

  97. Or someone who knows the Word of God very well.

  98. No matter what approach you're going to take

  99. in the timing of Revelation,

  100. it is important for us to remain united.

  101. Now, I don't know about you,

  102. but I cannot tell you how many times

  103. I have met people

  104. who are divided over Revelation.

  105. How many of you,

  106. you don't have to raise your hand,

  107. but I can speak for myself.

  108. Revelation can be a very divisive book.

  109. People talking about the timing of things

  110. and rapture versus non-rapture,

  111. all-millennial versus pre-millennial

  112. versus post-millennial

  113. versus preterist,

  114. and all these different things.

  115. But what's important for all of us

  116. is to search the Scriptures,

  117. find the meanings

  118. and the connections within God's Word.

  119. You may hold to rapture theology.

  120. You may not.

  121. You may be a pre-millennialist

  122. and that's what you're sticking with.

  123. Then by the grace of God,

  124. may you remain firm in your faith.

  125. But the approach that we are taking

  126. is searching the Scriptures

  127. and its connections in here.

  128. And so no matter who you are,

  129. where you are,

  130. when you are watching,

  131. whether you're watching online

  132. or here in person,

  133. all are welcome into this study.

  134. I can't tell you

  135. how many pastors and people

  136. I've talked to

  137. from different denominations

  138. who are interested in going into this.

  139. Let us grow together

  140. and look towards the victory in Jesus,

  141. the hope in Him,

  142. as we await the new heaven

  143. and the new earth

  144. to reign with Him forever.

  145. And I also want to point,

  146. it's important for us to know

  147. the Word of God says

  148. that no one knows the day or the hour

  149. when Christ will return.

  150. But how many of you

  151. have read a book

  152. or a magazine

  153. and it says that

  154. Christ will return on this day?

  155. My favorite one is Y2K.

  156. I was trying to find a picture

  157. of Time Magazine.

  158. They had a picture of

  159. the Y2K bug

  160. and like a ticking time bomb

  161. kind of thing.

  162. That imagery,

  163. which was showing fear

  164. towards the masses.

  165. And to be very honest,

  166. we think of the year 2000,

  167. that was a very scary time for sure.

  168. The unknown of technology

  169. and what was going to happen

  170. around that time.

  171. Or many of you may know

  172. the Mayan calendar, 2012.

  173. People thought the world

  174. was going to end in that.

  175. But it's important for us to know

  176. as we're even just beginning

  177. in this prelude of Revelation

  178. is that no one

  179. knows the date or the time.

  180. How many people have tried?

  181. And I don't know the answer,

  182. but there have been many people

  183. who have tried to find

  184. the timing of it.

  185. Or they'll say that,

  186. you know,

  187. what is the beast

  188. or the mark of the beast?

  189. It's important for us to know

  190. that not only is there

  191. the mark of the beast,

  192. but there's also the mark of God

  193. that we find within Scripture.

  194. It's also important for us to know

  195. when we look at the seven churches,

  196. may we,

  197. when we think of oil and lamps,

  198. may we be filled

  199. with the Holy Spirit.

  200. Much like how Scripture talks about,

  201. let your light shine.

  202. this little light of mine.

  203. You know the song.

  204. We know the parable.

  205. We don't want to hide our lamp

  206. under a bushel.

  207. We start seeing these connections

  208. that are very clear.

  209. And so in this,

  210. I've also put that,

  211. that I'm honored

  212. to journey through Revelation with you.

  213. What you'll find in this book

  214. is your reading guide.

  215. Some of you may not.

  216. Some of you will read ahead

  217. and do it.

  218. Some of you may

  219. just read Revelation.

  220. Some of you may want to find

  221. the connected readings in here.

  222. And I've put also the gospel

  223. and the parable connections with it.

  224. In searching and doing

  225. much research on this,

  226. I wanted to ensure

  227. that everything was

  228. as blatantly clear as possible.

  229. Some of it,

  230. you might get a little confused

  231. with the symbolism for sure.

  232. But when we read Revelation,

  233. there are things

  234. that are just confusing.

  235. Amen?

  236. But the reality is,

  237. despite the mystery,

  238. we still seek the God of clarity.

  239. And so in here,

  240. you see your,

  241. the connected readings.

  242. We're not going to go

  243. through all of these.

  244. This is for you.

  245. If you want to read ahead,

  246. just read in Revelation at least.

  247. If you want to go into

  248. the connected readings,

  249. by all means do it.

  250. I can tell you,

  251. when you start going

  252. into the middle of Revelation,

  253. that's some heavy stuff

  254. right there.

  255. One of the things

  256. that I found as

  257. not only a one

  258. who studies scripture,

  259. but as a pastor,

  260. is the connection

  261. we find with

  262. the tribulation

  263. and the judgment

  264. and what we find

  265. with the story

  266. of Moses

  267. and the Israelites.

  268. That a lot of the,

  269. remember how the water

  270. turns into blood?

  271. Or the plague

  272. that was of locusts

  273. that's found?

  274. That's also found

  275. in Revelation.

  276. Revelation.

  277. And I'm like,

  278. how many times

  279. have I read this

  280. and I know it's there,

  281. but how blatant

  282. it is there.

  283. So the next time

  284. you watch

  285. the Prince of Egypt

  286. and you see

  287. all of those judgments

  288. happening,

  289. a lot of that

  290. is connected

  291. in Revelation.

  292. How amazing is that?

  293. To see that

  294. what was found

  295. in the Old Testament

  296. is now showing

  297. towards the end.

  298. And then towards

  299. the end of this booklet,

  300. I have also put

  301. these symbols

  302. and the parables

  303. and symbols

  304. of the parables

  305. in Revelation

  306. where you have

  307. things like

  308. the virgins

  309. in the banquet

  310. where we talked

  311. about the ten virgins

  312. that were awaiting

  313. the wedding feast,

  314. the parable

  315. of the banquet

  316. where they are

  317. anticipating

  318. the marriage supper

  319. and the white garments.

  320. There's a verse

  321. in Revelation

  322. that says,

  323. blessed is the man

  324. who washes his robes.

  325. Whenever I read that,

  326. I think we'll just go

  327. do a load of laundry,

  328. right?

  329. Put some bleach in there.

  330. Some of you get the joke,

  331. right?

  332. But it's much more than that.

  333. Like how we find connected

  334. going from filthy rags

  335. into white garments,

  336. how it's connected

  337. with that.

  338. And so I know

  339. this is a lot,

  340. but let this be your guide.

  341. Keep it at home.

  342. Bring it with you.

  343. And you'll find

  344. a lot in there.

  345. And I'm just very excited.

  346. I want to give that

  347. kind of as the prelude.

  348. With that in mind,

  349. I want us to open

  350. to Revelation.

  351. Let's open the word together.

  352. We're going to go into

  353. the,

  354. it's going to be on page

  355. 1218 in your ESVP Bible.

  356. Or you can turn to

  357. Revelation chapter 1,

    Revelation 1:1–3

  358. verses 1 through 3.

  359. What I want to do

  360. as we're starting off here,

  361. I want us to look

  362. at the beginning

  363. and also the end.

  364. Because you'll see

  365. that there's some

  366. connections here.

  367. Okay?

  368. Are we all there

  369. in Revelation?

  370. Revelation?

  371. Alright, so Revelation

    Revelation 1:1–3

  372. chapter 1,

  373. verses 1 through 3.

  374. The revelation

  375. of Jesus Christ,

  376. which God gave him

  377. to show to his servants

  378. the things

  379. that must soon

  380. take place.

  381. He made it known

  382. by sending his angel

  383. to his servant John

  384. who bore witness

  385. to the word of God

  386. and to the testimony

  387. of Jesus Christ.

  388. Even to all

  389. that he saw,

  390. blessed is the one

  391. who reads aloud

  392. the words of this prophecy.

  393. How about we read

  394. that together, yeah?

  395. Blessed is the one

  396. who reads aloud

  397. the words of this prophecy

  398. and blessed are those

  399. who hear and keep

  400. what is written in it

  401. for the time is near.

  402. There's a lot of depth

  403. in that

  404. and I want us to go

  405. into the end

  406. of Revelation.

  407. Let's turn there.

  408. We're going to go ahead

  409. and turn towards

  410. that ending piece here.

  411. Make sure that we're good.

  412. Hold on there.

  413. Very good.

  414. We're going to turn

  415. to Revelation 22

  416. and we're going to start

  417. on verse...

  418. Let's go to verse 14.

  419. I put in my notes

  420. verse 16,

  421. but I want to show you

  422. right at the end.

  423. Are we all there?

  424. Revelation 22

    Revelation 22:14

  425. verse 14?

  426. There's that verse.

  427. Blessed are those

  428. who what?

  429. Who wash their robes,

  430. right?

  431. So we're not talking

  432. about a load of laundry here.

  433. We're talking about

  434. the cleanliness,

  435. the purification

  436. that comes from the Lord

  437. so that they may have

  438. the right to the tree of life

  439. and that they may enter

  440. the city by the gates.

  441. Outside are the dogs

  442. and sorcerers

  443. and the sexually immoral

  444. and murderers

  445. and idolaters

  446. and everyone who loves

  447. and practices falsehood.

  448. I, Jesus,

  449. have sent my angel

  450. to testify to you

  451. about these things

  452. for who?

  453. For the churches.

  454. I am the root

  455. and the descendant

  456. of David,

  457. the bright morning star.

  458. The spirit and the bride

  459. say,

  460. come.

  461. And let the one

  462. who hears say,

  463. come.

  464. And let the one

  465. who is thirsty,

  466. come.

  467. Let the one

  468. who desires

  469. take the water

  470. of life without price.

  471. Do you see even

  472. the connections right there?

  473. Like when Christ

  474. is talking about

  475. the water that you drink,

  476. you will never thirst

  477. when he's talking

  478. to the woman

  479. at the well.

  480. I warn everyone

  481. who hears the words

  482. of the prophecy

  483. of this book.

  484. If anyone adds to them,

  485. God will add him

  486. the plagues

  487. described in this book.

  488. Let's not add to this book,

  489. yeah?

  490. And if anyone

  491. takes away

  492. the words of the book

  493. of this prophecy,

  494. God will take away

  495. his share

  496. in the tree of life

  497. and in the holy city

  498. which are described

  499. in this book.

  500. He who testifies

  501. to these things

  502. say,

  503. surely,

  504. let's read that together,

  505. surely,

  506. I am coming soon.

  507. Amen.

  508. Come,

  509. Lord Jesus.

  510. The grace of the Lord Jesus

  511. be with all of you.

  512. Amen.

  513. And so,

  514. when we're looking

  515. at this,

  516. Scripture calls

  517. for us to

  518. not only read

  519. the Word of God

  520. but to hear it

  521. and to keep it.

  522. We follow Jesus

  523. through revelation

  524. much like we find

  525. in the Gospels

  526. or in the Old Testament.

  527. And

  528. we can see

  529. these wonderful

  530. connections

  531. that help us

  532. understand

  533. revelation.

  534. Now,

  535. for many of us,

  536. if you feel

  537. compelled to raise

  538. your hand,

  539. by all means do it,

  540. how many of you

  541. have been afraid

  542. of this book?

  543. I know growing up

  544. I was.

  545. I know growing up

  546. I,

  547. quite frankly,

  548. had wanted

  549. nothing to do

  550. with revelation

  551. because of how scary

  552. and confusing

  553. this book is.

  554. But when we think

  555. about it,

  556. just because

  557. it is hard

  558. to digest

  559. or even difficult

  560. for us to comprehend

  561. doesn't mean

  562. we should ignore it.

  563. Much like how

  564. there are,

  565. are there not

  566. difficult concepts

  567. in the Word of God

  568. that sometimes

  569. we don't want to hear

  570. but yet we need

  571. to hear it?

  572. when we go

  573. through revelation,

  574. this will challenge

  575. us for sure

  576. and that's okay.

  577. I pray that all

  578. of you will grow

  579. in Christ,

  580. that you will

  581. become stronger

  582. in faith

  583. and let it be known

  584. then

  585. that you will

  586. receive a blessing.

  587. Isn't that interesting

  588. that in this book

  589. of revelation

  590. it talks about

  591. the blessing

  592. of reading it?

  593. And when I think

  594. about how

  595. we're going over

  596. revelation now,

  597. it is by

  598. the hand of God

  599. that we are

  600. in times

  601. such as this.

  602. There's so much

  603. division

  604. and darkness

  605. and distractions.

  606. For many of us

  607. we may know that.

  608. How many of you

  609. have been discouraged

  610. recently by turning

  611. on the news

  612. and seeing

  613. the ugliness

  614. of people?

  615. We can see

  616. controversy happen,

  617. tragic events

  618. happen.

  619. It's important

  620. for us.

  621. Let us seek

  622. God who is

  623. our firm foundation

  624. in times

  625. such as this.

  626. Political division,

  627. hostility among

  628. Christians,

  629. cultural and

  630. technological shifts

  631. as I was

  632. mentioning.

  633. This is why

  634. we turn to

  635. God and

  636. his word.

  637. And I just

  638. have felt

  639. so moved

  640. by the fact

  641. that all

  642. these things

  643. are happening

  644. and now we're

  645. going through

  646. revelation

  647. because this

  648. book should

  649. give us

  650. comfort and

  651. the hope

  652. that is in

  653. Christ.

  654. Revelation

  655. can feel

  656. scary but

  657. it is the

  658. unveiling of

  659. Jesus Christ

  660. given to

  661. his servants

  662. as the text

  663. mentions.

  664. And we know

  665. that this

  666. book is for

  667. churches.

  668. The tone of

  669. this is

  670. pastoral.

  671. It is

  672. prophetic and

  673. it is

  674. apocalyptic.

  675. Now for many

  676. of us we

  677. think of the

  678. apocalypse,

  679. right?

  680. I know for me

  681. personally I

  682. think of how

  683. oh we got the

  684. door?

  685. Looked like

  686. okay yeah

  687. looks like

  688. someone wanted

  689. to come in.

  690. I think of

  691. how the

  692. zombie apocalypse

  693. not that I

  694. watch these

  695. things, maybe

  696. I have once

  697. or twice,

  698. maybe a few

  699. times.

  700. We think of

  701. apocalypse like

  702. the cities are

  703. completely destroyed,

  704. right?

  705. There's no

  706. running water

  707. and electricity,

  708. right?

  709. The apocalyptic

  710. language is very

  711. similar to what

  712. we've actually

  713. found in

  714. the parables.

  715. There's symbolic

  716. language,

  717. there is some

  718. mystery in it

  719. as well.

  720. It's nothing

  721. we should be

  722. afraid of.

  723. And that is

  724. why not only

  725. are we going

  726. to read the

  727. word of God

  728. in its context

  729. but also its

  730. connections in

  731. here.

  732. I want to

  733. turn to

  734. the next slide

  735. here, right?

  736. So that's our

  737. observation, right?

  738. We've gone over

  739. the bookends of

  740. Revelation and

  741. I want to make

  742. it clear.

  743. The intention

  744. in going through

  745. this we need

  746. to have guard

  747. rails.

  748. Why?

  749. Because there

  750. is really

  751. no other

  752. book that

  753. has caused

  754. so much

  755. more division

  756. than

  757. Revelation.

  758. So as I've

  759. been mentioning

  760. we will focus

  761. on the context

  762. and the

  763. connections of

  764. the word.

  765. We want to

  766. know where

  767. does the

  768. sea show up

  769. in Revelation

  770. and why

  771. does Revelation

  772. say there

  773. will be no

  774. more sea?

  775. I used to

  776. read that and

  777. get so

  778. confused.

  779. When it's

  780. talking about

  781. in the new

  782. heavens and the

  783. new earth the

  784. sea will be

  785. no more.

  786. What?

  787. That sounds

  788. terrible when

  789. you read that.

  790. But there's

  791. much more than

  792. what it's

  793. talking about

  794. when we talk

  795. about the

  796. sea.

  797. So looking at

  798. the context

  799. and the

  800. connections.

  801. The second

  802. thing is that

  803. we will not

  804. divide on the

  805. timelines and

  806. this is where

  807. my heart is

  808. at.

  809. Where you

  810. may feel

  811. convicted to

  812. look at

  813. Revelation

  814. literally then

  815. by all means

  816. do it.

  817. You may be

  818. a post

  819. millennialist.

  820. Your conviction

  821. may be that

  822. of the

  823. rapture.

  824. What matters

  825. is that we're

  826. still going to

  827. seek God's

  828. word and

  829. find these

  830. connections.

  831. And quite

  832. frankly this

  833. may actually

  834. strengthen your

  835. own view,

  836. your own

  837. how you view

  838. Revelation.

  839. Because a lot

  840. of times when

  841. churches go over

  842. Revelation they're

  843. going to say

  844. we're premillennial

  845. or we're

  846. preterist or

  847. we're post

  848. millennial or

  849. we're amillennial.

  850. Those are just

  851. ways to divide

  852. us.

  853. Because when we

  854. think about it

  855. how we view

  856. Revelation should

  857. not divide us.

  858. We should be

  859. united on the

  860. things of

  861. Christ.

  862. Bringing people

  863. to Christ to

  864. believe in

  865. Jesus Christ the

  866. way the truth

  867. and the life.

  868. And so I'm

  869. looking at some

  870. of you guys and

  871. I know exactly

  872. where you stand

  873. on that and

  874. that's okay.

  875. We may agree

  876. to disagree but

  877. may that not be

  878. a dividing

  879. wedge especially

  880. in times such

  881. as this.

  882. And so I hope

  883. that you'll take

  884. to heart these

  885. guardrails,

  886. right?

  887. We will focus

  888. on the victory,

  889. hope, and

  890. preparation of

  891. Christ.

  892. So many people

  893. are so focused

  894. on the fear

  895. and the beasts

  896. and the four

  897. horsemen and

  898. all of this

  899. language that we

  900. have to be

  901. afraid of this

  902. imagery.

  903. But the reality

  904. is when we

  905. know God there's

  906. nothing to be

  907. afraid of.

  908. We trust in

  909. the living God

  910. regardless of

  911. what's going to

  912. happen to us.

  913. We can think

  914. immediately in

  915. times such as

  916. this in the

  917. culture that we

  918. live in but we

  919. can also think

  920. well doesn't

  921. scripture tell us

  922. so much?

  923. Do not be

  924. afraid.

  925. Or if you're a

  926. KJV-er,

  927. fear not.

  928. Let us not be

  929. afraid of God

  930. in his word.

  931. Let us focus

  932. on the hope

  933. that is found

  934. in Jesus Christ

  935. and how we

  936. together can be

  937. united in

  938. Christ regardless

  939. of how we view

  940. revelation.

  941. Because the

  942. victory is in

  943. Jesus.

  944. And if there's

  945. anything we take

  946. away from

  947. revelation is

  948. that we are to

  949. live our lives in

  950. preparation for the

  951. return of Christ.

  952. That is what is

  953. important.

  954. And as I

  955. mentioned here,

  956. we will respect

  957. each other's

  958. theological

  959. convictions,

  960. journey in

  961. Christ, and

  962. keep the main

  963. thing the main

  964. thing.

  965. What's the main

  966. thing, church?

  967. It's on Jesus.

  968. Let's try that

  969. again.

  970. What is the main

  971. thing?

  972. It's focusing on

  973. Jesus, right?

  974. And so I expect

  975. that as we go

  976. through this, we

  977. will be challenged

  978. and that's okay.

  979. Let us respect

  980. one another because

  981. where you are at

  982. in your spiritual

  983. journey is different

  984. than the person

  985. next to you.

  986. I can't tell you

  987. how many times I've

  988. met a young

  989. Christian and I

  990. want him to learn

  991. like all the deeper

  992. things that I

  993. already know.

  994. They may not be

  995. ready.

  996. You've got to give

  997. them time, right?

  998. And what conclusions

  999. you have come to in

  1000. viewing revelation may

  1001. be different than the

  1002. person next to you.

  1003. I don't want to raise

  1004. hands and be like,

  1005. who's a premillennial

  1006. here?

  1007. Who's a rapture

  1008. person?

  1009. I don't want to do

  1010. that.

  1011. Let us come

  1012. humbly before our

  1013. Lord and our God.

  1014. Let's turn to the

  1015. word.

  1016. Let's open it.

  1017. Let's see what it

  1018. says and where it's

  1019. connected.

  1020. Maybe it will.

1021. And I hope it does

  1022. strengthen your faith

  1023. and strengthen your

  1024. conviction.

  1025. And so let's keep

  1026. the main thing,

  1027. the main thing,

  1028. right?

  1029. Jesus Christ and the

  1030. victory and the hope

  1031. in him and the

  1032. preparation that's to

  1033. come.

  1034. And then finally,

  1035. I put here that,

1036. do you know the day

  1037. or the time when

  1038. Christ will come?

  1039. Just say no,

  1040. right?

  1041. Right?

  1042. If you do,

  1043. we're going to talk

  1044. after,

  1045. right?

  1046. We think about it.

  1047. Nobody knows the

  1048. day or the hour.

  1049. And that's okay.

  1050. Because our trust is

  1051. in Jesus Christ.

  1052. It doesn't matter

  1053. when he's going to

  1054. return.

  1055. It matters is that

  1056. I'm living my life

  1057. that's going to honor

  1058. and glorify God.

  1059. I'm going to follow

  1060. in the footsteps of

1061. Christ and I'm going to

  1062. live every day in

  1063. anticipation.

  1064. If he comes tomorrow,

  1065. then so be it.

  1066. Praise God.

1067. If he comes in our

  1068. lifetime, praise God.

  1069. When he comes, we'll

  1070. be on God's timing.

  1071. We don't know.

1072. And I just want to put

  1073. that in this prelude

  1074. here.

1075. Let's go to that next

  1076. slide then in here.

  1077. And so in going

  1078. through this,

  1079. we are to keep,

1080. how do we apply this

  1081. then, right?

  1082. We have these guard

  1083. rails and this stuff.

  1084. Pastor's trying to

  1085. restrict these

  1086. different things.

  1087. No, it's to ensure

  1088. we don't attack each

  1089. other.

  1090. I think,

  1091. in my humble opinion,

  1092. I've gotten,

  1093. I've never gotten in

  1094. more heated arguments

  1095. and debates with people

  1096. than in Revelation.

  1097. because they talk

  1098. about, you know,

  1099. is Senator so-and-so

  1100. the Antichrist?

  1101. Or does this country

  1102. have a Jezebel spirit?

1103. You guys know what I

  1104. mean, right?

1105. It goes on and on

  1106. with that.

  1107. But how we should

1108. apply this is that we

  1109. need to keep Jesus

  1110. Christ at the center

1111. of our lives for such

  1112. a time as this.

1113. We are living in this

  1114. earth that is broken.

  1115. There are many people

  1116. who are in darkness.

1117. So a lot of people

  1118. don't even know

  1119. they're in darkness.

1120. And I've put on here

1121. for such a time as this

  1122. in Babylon, right?

1123. We think of the world.

  1124. There's some people

  1125. that are afraid

  1126. of living in Babylon

1127. or living in the world.

  1128. But there's really

1129. nothing for us to fear

  1130. because we have Jesus

  1131. Christ and we have

  1132. his salvation.

1133. That is why we are

1134. called to share in the

1135. good news of the gospel.

1136. We are to share in the

  1137. words of our testimony.

1138. We are to speak words,

  1139. be present with others.

1140. We are to do these things,

1141. to live and love like

  1142. Jesus Christ,

1143. to bring one more person,

  1144. not just one person,

1145. but to bring the next

  1146. person to Christ,

  1147. that they may know

  1148. the way,

  1149. the truth,

  1150. and the life.

1151. And I've also put in here

  1152. speaking truth in love.

  1153. We speak the truth

1154. and we deal with others

  1155. in love.

  1156. It's that balance of

  1157. grace and truth, right?

1158. We've got to love everybody,

1159. but we've got to speak truth

  1160. at the same time.

1161. And how many of us,

  1162. that's difficult, right?

  1163. Sometimes we want to

1164. speak truth and we get

  1165. real aggressive in the

  1166. process, right?

1167. And sometimes we want to

  1168. be all loving.

  1169. Well, you've got to

  1170. speak truth as well.

  1171. It's a nice balancing

  1172. act for us.

1173. And we are to live

  1174. that life in grace

  1175. and truth united in

  1176. Christ.

1177. Just as it says in

  1178. scripture that a house

  1179. divided cannot stand.

1180. Some of you may know

1181. that as a famous quote.

  1182. It's a truth nonetheless.

  1183. When we go through

  1184. revelation, the last

1185. thing that I want and

1186. the last thing I hope

1187. you would want is for

1188. us to attack each other.

1189. What matters is that we

  1190. believe in Jesus Christ

1191. and we are a work in

  1192. progress.

  1193. That we're growing in

  1194. the faith and the

  1195. knowledge of the word

1196. of God, but also the

  1197. transformation, the

  1198. healing that comes from

  1199. him.

  1200. The continued repentance,

  1201. right?

  1202. Metanoia, the continued

  1203. changing of mind, being

  1204. open and obedient to

  1205. God's word and God's

1206. call for our own life.

  1207. I've always been amazed

  1208. when, and you may

  1209. identify, you may know

  1210. someone who, man, when

  1211. they were not a

  1212. Christian, they were

  1213. something else.

  1214. But God convicted them.

  1215. God stirred their heart

1216. and they came to the

1217. Lord and that was the

  1218. beginning and they

  1219. continued to be

  1220. transformed, becoming

  1221. more like Christ.

1222. And so we are to live

  1223. in that grace and

  1224. truth, united in Christ.

  1225. Having that confidence

  1226. in the firm foundation,

1227. it is building up that

  1228. house upon the solid

  1229. rock.

  1230. It is producing fruit.

1231. It's important for us to

  1232. learn these lessons, but

  1233. it's also important for

  1234. us to bear fruit.

  1235. How will people know

  1236. that we are Christians

1237. if we don't speak the

  1238. truth in love?

1239. If we don't do the

  1240. works that God has

1241. called for us to do?

1242. And I always like to

  1243. mention to people, we're

1244. not saved by what we

1245. do, but we are saved

1246. so that we can do

  1247. works.

1248. So that we can do

1249. good in the name of

  1250. Christ.

  1251. That is so critically

  1252. important for us.

1253. I also want to make it

1254. clear in here that we

  1255. are to live in

  1256. anticipation and

  1257. preparation for the

  1258. end.

  1259. We are to persevere,

  1260. right?

  1261. When we're living in

  1262. this world, there's

  1263. going to be many

  1264. battles that we face.

1265. For some of us, it may

  1266. be of the mind.

1267. Some of us, it may be

  1268. spiritual attacks, but we

  1269. continue trusting in the

1270. living God because he is

1271. our firm foundation and we

  1272. will not be shaken.

  1273. We persevere, we endure,

  1274. we follow Christ, we

  1275. grow, and we act

  1276. accordingly.

1277. That is all important for

  1278. us.

1279. And then finally, I put,

1280. just as I was mentioning

1281. earlier, we are saved by

1282. grace, but we are saved

  1283. for good works.

1284. You've got to be careful.

  1285. I know I'm talking

  1286. semantics here, but

  1287. imagine the implication

  1288. being saved by works.

1289. Oh no, that is not the

  1290. Christian faith.

1291. We are saved by grace

1292. through faith so that we

1293. can grow and so that we

1294. can do good in his name.

  1295. And it's good works.

  1296. It's not evil.

  1297. It's not sin.

  1298. That's why I put saved

  1299. for good works.

1300. And so Christ invites all

1301. of us into the fold to

1302. come and see that the

  1303. Lord is good.

  1304. Just like in Revelation,

1305. it keeps saying, come and

  1306. see, come and see.

1307. Just like what we found

  1308. in the gospel accounts.

  1309. And so if you're not a

  1310. Christian, if you're not a

  1311. believer in Christ, may

1312. you enter into that saving

1313. grace by believing in Jesus

  1314. Christ.

  1315. First Corinthians

  1316. mentions believing in the

  1317. death, burial, and

  1318. resurrection of Jesus

  1319. Christ.

1320. And may that not be the

  1321. end.

1322. Rather, may that be the

  1323. beginning of your spiritual

1324. walk in the Lord, growing

  1325. in him, being transformed.

1326. I love that imagery of the

  1327. potter and the clay.

1328. Or like how I mentioned

1329. last week when we celebrated

  1330. our 80th anniversary here

  1331. at Ontario Community, the

1332. broken plate that gets put

  1333. back together and becomes

1334. more valuable than it once

  1335. was before.

  1336. Sealed with gold, right?

  1337. That's very cultural.

  1338. The art of Kintsugi.

1339. You can think of many

  1340. different ways.

  1341. Going from darkness into

  1342. light, right?

1343. Just as vessels were being

  1344. carried.

1345. And when we found in Ezra,

  1346. vessels being carried from

1347. the place they didn't belong

1348. into the place that they do

  1349. belong.

1350. Or just as Christ is going to

1351. lead his sheep into the pin.

1352. The journey may not be the

  1353. most ideal.

1354. If you've walked, maybe had

1355. horses go from one place to

1356. the next or cattle or sheep,

1357. sheep are going to trip and

1358. fall from time to time and

1359. you're going to need to help

  1360. them.

1361. But in any case, to come and

1362. see that the Lord is good, to

1363. become a believer in Christ and

1364. to grow in the faith and be

1365. moved to do good and be

  1366. encouraged here.

1367. Let us invite others to let us

1368. speak the words of truth,

1369. sharing in the gospel of

1370. Jesus Christ, sharing in your

1371. own story and how God has

1372. worked in and through your

  1373. life.

1374. And let us be reminded to do

1375. good in the name of Christ.

1376. And so, yes, we did go over

  1377. only a few verses.

1378. This next week, we're going to

  1379. go into chapter 1, verses 1

  1380. through 8.

1381. But I wanted, as we are

1382. beginning, to set the guard

1383. rails and for us to prepare

  1384. for this journey through

  1385. revelation, I encourage for

1386. all of you to invite someone

1387. to come to know the Lord.

1388. Invite one person to come to

1389. church or think of someone you

1390. can share your faith with.

1391. Think of someone that you can

1392. show the love of Christ through

  1393. action.

  1394. Think of these things.

1395. Let us remember that God is at

1396. work just as we have celebrated

1397. 80 years of faithfulness and

  1398. blessings from God.

1399. Let us boldly move forward into

  1400. this sermon series, being

1401. faithful to God and to his word.

1402. May we be thankful to God and may

1403. we approach him being ready in

1404. anticipation, not just to grow, but in

  1405. anticipation for his return.

  1406. Let's pray together.

1407. Father God, we thank you for this

1408. time and this opportunity for us to

1409. gather together as we have touched

  1410. the surface of revelation.

1411. Father, we pray that there will be a

1412. sense of unity among the body of

1413. Christ, that we won't argue, but rather

1414. will seek you and your word.

1415. We pray that this church body and

1416. those that are watching online, that

1417. there will be a sense of protection

  1418. from any evil.

1419. We know that there's a spiritual war

  1420. that is happening.

  1421. We pray for protection.

1422. We also pray that if there's anyone

1423. that is wrestling with the decision to

1424. believe in Christ, may they be

1425. encouraged and moved to believe in the

1426. death, burial and resurrection of your

1427. son. We pray that we may not only grow

1428. individually, but we may grow

1429. collectively as a church body.

1430. I pray for all of those that are here

1431. today, those that are not here, that

  1432. are traveling or sick.

1433. And I pray for those that are watching

  1434. online.

1435. May you come to know Jesus Christ,

1436. grow in him and be moved to live out

  1437. the faith.

1438. It is in the name of Jesus Christ that

1439. we pray and we all say together,

  1440. amen church. Amen.

1441. Thank you for joining us for today's

1442. message from Ontario Community Church.

1443. If this message encouraged you, I

1444. encourage for you to share it with a

  1445. friend or family member.

1446. Remember the blessing that comes from

1447. reading, hearing and keeping God's

  1448. word.

1449. Today, we set our guardrails by hearing

1450. the beginning and the end of

1451. revelation and focusing and fixing our

  1452. eyes on Jesus Christ.

1453. Next week will be week two as we

1454. continue with revelation chapter one

  1455. verses one through eight.

1456. And we are going to focus on Christ as

1457. the alpha and the omega, and we will

1458. connect it with many verses throughout

  1459. scripture.

1460. Until next time, may the grace of our

1461. Lord Jesus Christ be with you as we

1462. continue to encourage, equip and engage

  1463. lives for Christ.

  1464. God bless.

  1465. God bless.
