  1. Welcome to Ontario Community Church, where we are encouraging, equipping, and engaging lives for Christ.

  2. ! I'm Pastor Patrick Daly, and each week I seek to balance the love of Jesus Christ with the truth of His Word.

  3. Today, we are in Revelation 1, verses 9-20, where John is on the island of Patmos, and he meets the risen Christ, the Son of Man.

    Revelation 1:9–20

  4. He has eyes like fire, the voice like many waters, and he is holding the seven stars while walking among the seven golden lampstands.

  5. This vision talks about patient endurance and calls for us to worship in the Spirit on the Lord's day and reminds us that Jesus, He is the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega, the Living One who holds His church in His hand.

  6. As you listen to this sermon, ask yourself, what is Jesus showing me about Himself, the church, and my witness?

  7. Let us read, hear, and keep His Word, and fix our eyes on Jesus Christ.

  8. What a wonderful time for us to gather together as we have just taken part in communion.

  9. A time for us to reflect on Christ's life.

  10. Christ being the way, the truth, and the life.

  11. It's important for us to remember what He has done for us and what He continues to do for us.

  12. We have been going through, we started our sermon series through the book of Revelation.

  13. Revelation, a book that for many of us can certainly seem confusing, divisive, and let's face it, outright scary at times.

  14. I know that for many of us, we may have had a certain experience.

  15. There's many people that you may know or you yourself may have experienced this book in Scripture, this book in the Bible as one of great mystery,

  16. but one that, well, we should not be afraid of revelation.

  17. Much like we should not be afraid of the gospel, we should not be afraid of the Word of God, for it is living and active.

  18. It is good for us to read, for us to hear, for us to understand, and to keep the Word in our hearts.

  19. Let us open to Revelation.

  20. Revelation 1, verses 9-20.

    Revelation 1:9–20

  21. It's on page 1,218 in your ESVP Bible or your Bible of choice, Revelation.

  22. And as you're turning there,

  23. we began going through the first eight verses,

  24. talking about how there is a blessing

  25. for us to read these words aloud.

  26. Just as it says in verse 3,

  27. as you're turning there,

  28. blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy,

  29. and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it,

  30. for the time is near.

  31. Very important for us,

  32. just like any part of Scripture,

  33. for us to read it,

  34. to see what the Word of God has to say,

  35. for us to be,

  36. to approach humbly

  37. God and His Word,

  38. and for God to work in us.

  39. Are we all there then, church?

  40. So, chapter 1, verse 9,

  41. all the way through 20.

  42. I, John,

  43. let's read together,

  44. your brother and partner in the tribulation

  45. and the kingdom

  46. and the patient endurance that are in Jesus,

  47. was on the island called Patmos

  48. on account of the Word of God

  49. and the testimony of Jesus.

  50. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day,

  51. and I heard behind me

  52. a loud voice like a trumpet

  53. saying,

  54. write what you see in a book

  55. and send it to the seven churches,

  56. to Ephesus,

  57. to Smyrna,

  58. and to Pergamum,

  59. and to Thyatira,

  60. and to Sardis,

  61. and to Philadelphia,

  62. and to Laodicea.

  63. I'm going to quiz you on how to pronounce this

  64. after the fact, right?

  65. No, I'm just kidding here.

  66. Verse 12,

  67. Then I turned to see the voice

  68. that was speaking to me,

  69. and on turning,

  70. I saw seven golden lampstands,

  71. and in the midst of the lampstands,

  72. one like a son of man,

  73. clothed with a long robe,

  74. with a golden sash around his chest.

  75. The hairs of his head were what color?

  76. White, like white wool, like snow.

  77. Now, this is interesting.

  78. His eyes were like, what?

  79. A flame of fire, right?

  80. And his feet were like burnished bronze,

  81. refined in a furnace.

  82. And his voice was like the roar of many waters.

  83. In his right hand,

  84. he held seven stars,

  85. and from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword.

  86. And his face was like the sun,

  87. shining in full strength.

  88. What incredible imagery we're seeing here.

  89. What in the world's going on?

  90. I mean, if I see someone with flames in their eyes,

  91. that's, I mean, that's pretty intense for there, right?

  92. When I saw him,

  93. I fell at his feet.

  94. Well, I think I'd fall at my feet, too,

  95. if I see the Lord in that.

  96. As though dead.

  97. But he laid his right hand on me,

  98. saying, what, church?

  99. Fear not.

  100. I am the first and the last,

  101. and the living one.

  102. I died,

  103. and behold,

  104. I am alive forevermore,

  105. and I have the keys

  106. of death and Hades.

  107. Write, therefore,

  108. the things that you have seen,

  109. those that are,

  110. and those that are to

  111. take place after this.

  112. As for the mystery,

  113. oh,

  114. the Lord's going to break it down, right?

  115. As for the mystery of the seven stars

  116. that you saw in my right hand,

  117. and the seven golden lampstands,

  118. the seven stars are what?

  119. Angels of the seven churches.

  120. And the seven lampstands are

  121. the seven churches.

  122. I love when Christ breaks it down like that,

  123. so we can have some clarity going on.

  124. It's much like how,

  125. when we were going through our series

  126. through the parables,

  127. there are some explicit times

  128. where Christ breaks it down.

  129. When we talked about,

  130. for example,

  131. the seed and the soil,

  132. that Christ is saying,

  133. the seed represents the word,

  134. and the soil represents our hearts.

  135. So it's very,

  136. a lot more clear and clarifying

  137. when we have a breakdown like that.

  138. And so we begin in here

  139. where it's saying here

  140. that I, John,

  141. your brother and partner

  142. in the tribulation.

  143. Well, that's interesting.

  144. He's a partner in the tribulation

  145. and in the kingdom

  146. and patient endurance.

  147. Now, when we talk about this idea

  148. of tribulation,

  149. the Greek is talking about

  150. the opposition,

  151. the oppression,

  152. or the pressure.

  153. Talking about himself

  154. and other Christians

  155. that are receiving some sort of pressure.

  156. and the kingdom,

  157. when we talk about this,

  158. that he is part of the kingdom of God.

  159. When we have talked about earlier

  160. in verse,

  161. let's see here,

  162. in verse six,

  163. when it says,

  164. he made us a kingdom,

  165. priest to his God and father,

  166. to him be glory and dominion

  167. forever and ever,

  168. right,

  169. that we are a part of that kingdom.

  170. So John is saying,

  171. I too am a part of that.

  172. And patience,

  173. and patient endurance

  174. that are in Jesus,

  175. right?

  176. So he's saying that

  177. when he's writing

  178. on the island of Patmos,

  179. essentially,

  180. he is exiled,

  181. but yet he is still witnessing.

  182. How powerful is that

  183. to not even be

  184. in the same location,

  185. but to still be able

  186. to write

  187. and to have a sense

  188. of influence

  189. on others?

  190. It's interesting

  191. when you go on

  192. in verse 10,

  193. you see the language here.

  194. It says,

  195. I was in the spirit.

  196. That's an interesting one,

  197. isn't it?

  198. I was in the spirit

  199. when?

  200. On the Lord's day,

  201. right?

  202. So during worship then,

  203. it's this idea of,

  204. and for some of you

  205. who may remember

  206. when I taught about

  207. the nature,

  208. purpose,

  209. and power of scripture,

  210. it's this overwhelming,

  211. this sense of overwhelm

  212. from the spirit

  213. to write down

  214. what needs to be written down.

  215. In other words,

  216. it's found in

  217. 1st or 2nd Peter

  218. where it says

  219. that the apostles

  220. and the prophets

  221. were carried along

  222. by the Holy Spirit,

  223. meaning it was such

  224. a overwhelm.

  225. Think of a ship at sea

  226. when the water

  227. is gently moving

  228. a boat

  229. across the water.

  230. Well, the water

  231. is so powerful

  232. that it's carrying

  233. along the boat.

  234. And this is similar language

  235. in speaking of how

  236. John

  237. is in the spirit.

  238. He's being moved,

  239. as it were,

  240. with this overwhelming

  241. force

  242. from the Holy Spirit

  243. to write down

  244. the word, right?

  245. And in that moment,

  246. that sense of overwhelm,

  247. he hears the loud trumpets.

  248. This voice tells him

  249. to write to the seven churches

  250. and we see that

  251. that's listed.

  252. And in fact,

  253. as we go along

  254. in Revelation,

  255. we're going to break down

  256. all of those seven churches.

  257. And so,

  258. we see in here,

  259. then,

  260. the seven golden lampstands.

  261. It talks about,

  262. in verse 13,

  263. in the midst

  264. of the lampstands,

  265. one like a son of God,

  266. right?

  267. And it gives

  268. this description here.

  269. And it's interesting

  270. when you have

  271. this description,

  272. especially when you search

  273. in the depths of Scripture,

  274. has this language

  275. shown up before?

  276. Because it's very unusual,

  277. right?

  278. We're reading this

  279. and we're like,

  280. that's powerful

  281. and kind of mysterious

  282. type of description.

  283. So,

  284. I want us to turn,

  285. actually,

  286. I want to show you

  287. that this is actually

  288. shown in Scripture before.

  289. Will you turn with me

  290. to Zechariah?

  291. In your ESVP Bible,

  292. it's going to be found

  293. on page 944.

  294. And you'll see

  295. that the vision

  296. for the prophet

  297. is very similar

  298. in the description

  299. for what we find

  300. in Revelation.

  301. And this type of language,

  302. this isn't the first time.

  303. Now,

  304. for those of you

  305. who were there

  306. during our series

  307. in Ezra,

  308. we went over Zechariah

  309. where we went over

  310. that verse 6

  311. where the prophet

  312. is going to say

  313. that,

  314. many of you may know

  315. this verse,

  316. not by might

  317. nor by power,

  318. but by my spirit,

  319. says the Lord of hosts,

  320. right?

  321. And it's this moment

  322. where Zerubbabel

  323. is going to receive

  324. this message

  325. to build

  326. the second temple.

  327. But we're actually

  328. looking before that

  329. and we'll see

  330. how it's connected

  331. with Revelation.

  332. It's always amazing

  333. when we see connections

  334. within not only Ezra,

  335. but also within Revelation.

  336. So,

  337. Zechariah chapter 4,

    Zechariah 4 chapter mention

  338. we're going to go through

  339. verses 1 through 6,

  340. and notice

  341. how the language

  342. is very similar,

  343. almost identical,

  344. but similar nonetheless.

  345. So,

  346. page 944,

  347. Zechariah chapter 4,

    Zechariah 4:1–6

  348. verses 1 through 6.

  349. Are we there,

  350. church?

  351. All right.

  352. So,

  353. check this out.

  354. This is amazing, right?

  355. And the angel

  356. who talked with me

  357. came again

  358. and he woke me

  359. like a man

  360. who was awakened

  361. out of his sleep.

  362. being awakened, right?

  363. He said to me,

  364. what do you see?

  365. And I said,

  366. I see,

  367. and behold,

  368. a what?

  369. A lampstand,

  370. all of gold,

  371. with a bowl

  372. on top of it,

  373. and how many lamps?

  374. Seven lamps on it,

  375. with seven lips

  376. on each of the lamps

  377. that are on top of it.

  378. Now,

  379. in here,

  380. Zechariah is talking about

  381. that there's two

  382. olive trees by it,

  383. one on the right

  384. of the bowl

  385. and the other

  386. on the left.

  387. Verse 4,

  388. and I said to the angel

  389. who talked with me,

  390. what are these,

  391. my Lord?

  392. And if you're having a vision

  393. or you're having a dream,

  394. you may want to understand

  395. what's going on.

  396. Saying,

  397. well,

  398. what are these,

  399. my Lord?

  400. And then the angel

  401. who talked with me,

  402. and I think the angel

  403. is being sarcastic,

  404. but that's just my opinion

  405. on here,

  406. right?

  407. He said to me,

  408. do you not know

  409. what these are?

  410. You not understand?

  411. What do you mean

  412. you don't get

  413. what's going on,

  414. right?

  415. And he said,

  416. no.

  417. I said,

  418. no,

  419. my Lord.

  420. And he said to me,

  421. this is the word

  422. of the Lord

  423. to Zerubbabel,

  424. not by might,

  425. nor by power,

  426. but by my spirit,

  427. says the Lord of hosts.

  428. Very interesting

  429. that that's going

  430. to happen

  431. where this message

  432. is going to go

  433. to Zerubbabel

  434. to build the temple,

  435. but also that same

  436. kind of language

  437. is what we find

  438. in Revelation.

  439. Very,

  440. very similar

  441. and very powerful

  442. nonetheless.

  443. So that kind of imagery

  444. has been shown before

  445. within the Old Testament,

  446. right?

  447. And how we praise God

  448. for that kind of consistency

  449. that we see within it.

  450. Amen?

  451. So,

  452. in going in here,

  453. we see the long robe,

  454. the hair white as wool,

  455. the eyes are like fire,

  456. the feet are like

  457. burnished bras,

  458. the voice is like

  459. many waters.

  460. And what's interesting

  461. in this is when it's

  462. talking about

  463. the two-edged sword,

  464. doesn't that remind you

  465. about the word?

  466. Right?

  467. How it's sharp

  468. and how it's penetrating

  469. and how powerful it is.

  470. So this is actually

  471. speaking of the Lord

  472. speaking,

  473. that it's penetrating.

  474. How powerful is that?

  475. Very,

  476. very interesting.

  477. And for sure,

  478. even as we're going over,

  479. it's like,

  480. I feel like

  481. in Zechariah here,

  482. I'm not fully understanding

  483. and that's okay.

  484. We don't have to understand

  485. everything within Scripture,

  486. but certainly by the grace of God,

  487. we're going to learn something.

  488. Amen?

  489. And so,

  490. because of this,

  491. John falls as though

  492. as though he's dead

  493. and Jesus touches him

  494. and says,

  495. fear not.

  496. How many times

  497. within Scripture

  498. do we find

  499. we are told

  500. to not be afraid

  501. or to have no fear

  502. or to not be anxious?

  503. We still see that happening.

  504. I don't know about you,

  505. but to fall completely

  506. on the ground

  507. as though I'm dead

  508. is talk about overwhelm.

  509. Talk about the power

  510. and the presence of our Lord.

  511. And I mean,

  512. what an image.

  513. What an image.

  514. And I was going to

  515. use some software

  516. to make such an image.

  517. It was the scariest thing

  518. I've ever made

  519. and I did not put it

  520. on this slideshow,

  521. mind you.

  522. But if you look online,

  523. you go on Google

  524. or use AI

  525. to make something,

  526. whatever,

  527. try it sometime.

  528. It's actually quite

  529. a scary image

  530. and I don't know about you,

  531. I'm going to go

  532. on the ground

  533. for a second here

  534. just like John is,

  535. you know.

  536. But Christ is saying,

  537. I am the first

  538. and the last,

  539. the living one.

  540. I have the keys

  541. of death and Hades,

  542. right?

  543. Because when we think

  544. of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  545. we think of the fact

  546. that he conquered death,

  547. right?

  548. That when he speaks

  549. the word,

  550. what is said

  551. will happen.

  552. It will come to pass.

  553. I think of how

  554. in scripture

  555. when Christ is out

  556. in the boat

  557. and there's that stormy sea

  558. that's going on

  559. and he goes out

  560. and he says,

  561. peace,

  562. be still,

  563. right?

  564. Those kind of commands

  565. that happen.

  566. It's done.

  567. And so he goes on

  568. explaining the symbols,

  569. the stars

  570. representing the angels

  571. or the messengers

  572. and the lampstands

  573. equaling the churches.

  574. Let us remember

  575. these three things then,

  576. kingdom,

  577. tribulation

  578. and then endurance.

  579. We talk about tribulation,

  580. let us remember

  581. it is pressure,

  582. it is affliction.

  583. Not only do we think

  584. about the tribulation,

  585. but we can also think

  586. about times

  587. where we have had

  588. or experienced

  589. a tribulation.

  590. Don't raise your hand.

  591. How many of you

  592. have experienced

  593. pressure

  594. or a tribulation

  595. or a trial before?

  596. Just know that

  597. whether you're experiencing

  598. the tribulation

  599. or a tribulation,

  600. God's going to be there

  601. with you.

  602. And when we think

  603. of this language

  604. of not being afraid,

  605. well, it's easier said

  606. than done.

  607. However,

  608. isn't it good to know

  609. that God is there

  610. by our side

  611. in every season

  612. of our life

  613. no matter what it is

  614. we're going through?

  615. No matter what it is

  616. we are about to go through?

  617. Think of these things

  618. and think of the comfort

  619. and peace

  620. and the security

  621. that Jesus Christ

  622. gives for us.

  623. That's one of the many reasons

  624. for us to believe in Him.

  625. I don't know about you,

  626. but with the way

  627. culture is changing

  628. and with the constant,

  629. you know,

  630. there's a lot of good things

  631. that are happening

  632. in culture,

  633. but I also look

  634. and there's a lot of crazy things

  635. that are going on.

  636. We need a constant

  637. in our own life.

  638. We need that sure foundation

  639. and I can't help

  640. but think of

  641. how the world is today

  642. with the craziness,

  643. the political unrest,

  644. the shootings

  645. that are happening.

  646. People need Christ

  647. more than ever before

  648. and it's important

  649. for us to,

  650. number one,

  651. lean into Christ

  652. as our firm foundation,

  653. but also to share

  654. in the gospel

  655. of Jesus Christ

  656. letting people know

  657. that there is hope in Him

  658. and that there is something

  659. more to this life

  660. than the craziness

  661. or the ever,

  662. never-ending scrolling

  663. on TikTok

  664. or Instagram

  665. or Facebook

  666. or this constant noise

  667. of the media.

  668. God provides something

  669. a much better way.

  670. He provides true peace.

  671. He is the truth.

  672. He is the way

  673. and He provides

  674. eternal life for us.

  675. And so,

  676. that should be a call

  677. for you to be a part

  678. of the kingdom,

  679. to believe in the Lord

  680. and to be saved

  681. and just know

  682. that in knowing Christ,

  683. it's not going to be

  684. an easy journey.

  685. There's going to be times

  686. where we have trials.

  687. How many of us

  688. have never had a trial?

  689. Don't raise your hand

  690. for the love of God.

  691. If you haven't,

  692. then praise God.

  693. Right?

  694. We've all had trials.

  695. We've all had tribulations.

  696. We've had people

  697. who have gone up

  698. against us.

  699. Look at Psalms

  700. sometime.

  701. Look at all the times

  702. that David was just

  703. all over the place

  704. emotionally.

  705. I'm thinking,

  706. well, David,

  707. what's going on here?

  708. But we can relate

  709. to that.

  710. Humanity.

  711. We can relate

  712. to the Lord

  713. and come to Him

  714. no matter what it is

  715. that is going on

  716. in our own life

  717. because we are

  718. imperfect people

  719. in an imperfect world

  720. but we rely

  721. on the perfect God.

  722. Amen?

  723. That's where it's at.

  724. Let's go to

  725. the interpretation then.

  726. Right?

  727. Here at Ontario Community Church

  728. we use what's known

  729. as the OIA method,

  730. observation,

  731. interpretation,

  732. and application.

  733. The O representing

  734. what can we see.

  735. Right?

  736. Scripture is our source.

  737. Nothing should surpass

  738. the Word of God.

  739. That is our book

  740. and we should read it.

  741. We should use it

  742. by golly.

  743. Right?

  744. And then the I is

  745. what are the lessons

  746. that we can learn.

  747. A, the application

  748. is what can we do about it.

  749. So the I then,

  750. the first one is

  751. tribulation.

  752. So the first lesson

  753. essentially,

  754. the first interpretation

  755. is tribulation,

  756. kingdom, and endurance.

  757. I was kind of

  758. mentioning it already.

  759. Right?

  760. We should be part

  761. of the kingdom.

  762. Right?

  763. And in being in the kingdom

  764. there will be times

  765. where people go against us.

  766. There will be times

  767. where we are,

  768. I think of that song

  769. under pressure.

  770. Right?

  771. There's times

  772. where we are going

  773. to face adversity

  774. but we still trust

  775. in the living God

  776. as our foundation.

  777. We're not going

  778. to be shaken.

  779. We're going to endure

  780. to the end.

  781. And that is the beautiful

  782. thing about knowing

  783. Jesus Christ.

  784. And we think about this

  785. for a second

  786. is that being a part

  787. of the kingdom

  788. means we're going

  789. to endure with Christ.

  790. We're going to endure

  791. with our brothers

  792. and sisters together.

  793. Because sometimes,

  794. and very often,

  795. when we go through

  796. a tribulation,

  797. it's not just us.

  798. It's other people.

  799. What a call for us

  800. to pray for one another,

  801. to bear each other up,

  802. to be present

  803. for each other.

  804. And so we,

  805. I put we may face

  806. tribulation

  807. but I want to say

  808. we will face tribulation

  809. at times.

  810. But we're a part

  811. of Christ's kingdom

  812. and we endure

  813. to the end.

  814. The second thing then

  815. is the Son of Man

  816. walks with His churches

  817. and His people.

  818. We've had this imagery

  819. before throughout Scripture

  820. where Christ is leading

  821. His sheep to green pastures.

  822. Christ as the great shepherd

  823. and He is,

  824. in other parables,

  825. it talks about other pens

  826. where other sheep will be

  827. representing other churches,

  828. other things that are going on

  829. in here.

  830. And so Jesus is standing

  831. among the seven lampstands.

  832. Now, when we look

  833. at the number seven,

  834. we think of completedness,

  835. we think of perfection.

  836. And many, many scholars

  837. and even I am of the belief

  838. that this is a representation

  839. not just of the seven churches

  840. that we find in Revelation

  841. but also for all of the church,

  842. the universal church,

  843. if we, as it were.

  844. And how important it is

  845. that Christ is present

  846. or at least should be present

  847. in every single congregation.

  848. That He's there with us, right?

  849. We think of the presence of God

  850. and the working of the Holy Spirit,

  851. the transforming power

  852. that comes from Him,

  853. the healing that comes from Him.

  854. And so Christ is the good shepherd

  855. and the lampstand is paralleled

  856. with what we found

  857. in Zechariah chapter 4.

    Zechariah 4 chapter mention

  858. Wasn't that interesting to see

  859. that there's this vision

  860. that's happening

  861. and not only is it applying

  862. to the temple that needs to be built

  863. that we find connected with Ezra,

  864. but it's going way all the way over

  865. into Revelation.

  866. That's amazing.

  867. That's incredible.

  868. And I mean,

  869. it just goes to show you

  870. the power of our Lord, right?

  871. And just as the temple

  872. would be led by the Spirit,

  873. so too would the Spirit

  874. lead John to write down the vision.

  875. How wonderful is that connected?

  876. And we think of how,

  877. well, Christ is the sure foundation.

  878. He is the Son of Man.

  879. The third thing then,

  880. two words, church,

  881. what does it say?

  882. Fear not.

  883. Fear not.

  884. The living one who rules over death.

  885. Piggybacking off of the fact

  886. that Jesus is the first and the last.

  887. Some translations will go on

  888. saying that he is the Alpha and the Omega

  889. as a repeating theme.

  890. Absolutely.

  891. The living one who died,

  892. rose again,

  893. and now lives victorious.

  894. He lives forever,

  895. holding the keys of death and Hades.

  896. That Christ rules and reigns.

  897. And when I talked about this idea,

  898. the sword that is from his mouth,

  899. it's a representation of the spoken word

  900. that it's penetrating,

  901. and that is voice,

  902. the power of many waters.

  903. What interesting language.

  904. If you've ever been to the coast

  905. and you hear the sound of the waves

  906. that are just smashing up upon the rocks

  907. and how loud and how penetrating that is.

  908. Or when we use the language of a loud trumpet,

  909. there's all these different words

  910. to describe how loud

  911. and how powerful the voice is.

  912. And so when we look at Jesus Christ,

  913. let us be encouraged then

  914. that Christ reigns supreme

  915. and victorious in our lives.

  916. That Jesus Christ saves,

  917. ruling over death.

  918. I want to be a part of his kingdom.

  919. I want to be a part of

  920. that which is going to stand forever,

  921. not something that will fade away.

  922. Let's go to that next slide then,

  923. which is now the application here.

  924. It's important for us

  925. to read the word of God

  926. and to learn it,

  927. but it's also important for us,

  928. how do we apply this

  929. to our own very lives?

  930. So the first one then is to live,

  931. what does that say?

  932. What's that second word?

  933. So don't live alone, right?

  934. Live together in Christ

  935. with the power of the Holy Spirit.

  936. It is not good for us

  937. to live life alone.

  938. We are better when we are together,

  939. united as the body of Christ.

  940. And unfortunately,

  941. when we think of the world

  942. and the culture in which we live in,

  943. how do you hear very often

  944. any good news on the news?

  945. I'm starting to think,

  946. I don't think I've heard

  947. any good news recently,

  948. but we have the greatest news,

  949. and that is the good news

  950. of the gospel, right?

  951. And we think for a moment,

  952. how easy is it for us

  953. to be separated

  954. from the body of Christ?

  955. And how the world

  956. and our culture

  957. and people with evil in their heart

  958. want to separate the body,

  959. separate us from one another.

  960. But when we think of Christ,

  961. we think of the hope

  962. that is found in Him,

  963. the joy that comes from Him,

  964. the unity,

  965. the life that comes from Him,

  966. not the division,

  967. not the hatred.

  968. Let us think of the life-giving power

  969. that comes from Him, right?

  970. And even through trials

  971. and tribulations,

  972. when you are going through

  973. a bad situation,

  974. whether you're going through

  975. a trial or a tribulation,

  976. whether you're about to

  977. or you just got out of it

  978. or maybe you're going

  979. through that storm,

  980. knowing that Christ is with you

  981. and knowing that us

  982. as brothers and sisters in Christ,

  983. we've got to be there

  984. for each other.

  985. We've got to pray for one another

  986. and check in with each other.

  987. A simple how are you doing?

  988. A letter.

  989. A text message.

  990. If you don't like talking

  991. on the phone,

  992. I get for some of us

  993. we might not like that.

  994. Whatever.

  995. Think of ways

  996. that you can connect

  997. with your brothers and sisters

  998. in Christ

  999. and think of how

  1000. you can exhibit

1001. the love of Christ for others.

1002. So we live together in Christ.

  1003. Not to be alone.

  1004. I'm always convicted

  1005. when I meet a Christian

  1006. who wants nothing to...

  1007. They believe in Christ

  1008. but they want nothing

1009. to do with the body.

  1010. Or they want nothing

1011. to do with the church.

1012. And more often than not,

  1013. it's because they've been hurt.

  1014. More often than not,

  1015. it's they were taught,

  1016. well, hatred or division

  1017. rather than hope

  1018. and love and peace

  1019. and the building up.

  1020. And granted,

1021. we have to think of

  1022. how we can exhibit

  1023. that love to others.

  1024. I have a special place

  1025. in my heart

  1026. for people who just

1027. are not a part of the body.

  1028. Pray for them.

1029. Think of how you can

  1030. be present with them.

  1031. For some of you,

  1032. you may know

  1033. of this notion

  1034. of people who have

  1035. deconstructed their faith.

  1036. And I,

  1037. as a millennial,

  1038. I know a lot of people

  1039. who are my age

  1040. who have left Christianity

  1041. because of one reason

  1042. or another.

  1043. More often than not,

1044. it's because they felt isolated.

  1045. Because they weren't able

1046. to connect with the body.

  1047. Right?

  1048. Now, I'm not going

  1049. to justify every person

1050. that has left the church.

1051. But how important it is,

  1052. is it for us

  1053. to be able

  1054. to speak truth

  1055. but also to deal

  1056. in love.

  1057. Meeting people

  1058. where they are at

  1059. in their spiritual walk.

  1060. I always tell people,

  1061. whether you're on

  1062. a spiritual journey

  1063. and you're seeking truth,

  1064. may you find

  1065. the truth.

  1066. Right?

  1067. May you begin

  1068. your life

  1069. in Jesus Christ.

1070. That is not the end.

  1071. That is the beginning

  1072. of your new life

  1073. in Christ.

1074. And we've got to think

  1075. of how we can

  1076. minister to those

  1077. who have

  1078. deconstructed,

  1079. have that open door.

  1080. be available

  1081. for those.

  1082. Much like we're

  1083. to be there

  1084. for those

  1085. that don't even believe

  1086. or have never

  1087. heard of the gospel.

  1088. May we be ambassadors

  1089. for Christ

1090. and may we be able

  1091. to share

  1092. in our faith,

  1093. in our testimony

  1094. with other people.

  1095. And so,

  1096. let us stand firm

  1097. on the solid rock.

  1098. Let us live

  1099. like Christ

  1100. and as I mentioned

  1101. before,

  1102. this world needs Christ

  1103. more than ever.

  1104. let's not be divided.

  1105. Let us be united

  1106. in Christ.

  1107. Let us focus

  1108. on the hope

  1109. in Him.

  1110. The newness of life,

  1111. the transformation,

  1112. the healing

  1113. that comes from Him.

1114. That's just the first point.

  1115. The second thing

  1116. is to worship

  1117. on the Lord's day

  1118. in the Spirit.

  1119. Let the Holy Spirit

1120. work in and through you.

  1121. Worship the Lord.

  1122. Be in His presence.

  1123. Don't let there be

  1124. any distractions

1125. or any sort of things

  1126. that derail you

  1127. or deter you.

  1128. Focus on worship

1129. and coming to the Lord

1130. no matter what it is

  1131. you're going through.

  1132. I can tell you

  1133. there's a lot of times

  1134. where I'm coming

  1135. before the Lord

1136. and I'm not in a good state

  1137. and that's okay.

1138. We come as we are

  1139. to the Lord

  1140. who gives us comfort,

  1141. who will guide us,

  1142. who will lead us.

1143. He is the Good Shepherd.

1144. So let the Spirit lead

  1145. and guide you

  1146. not only personally,

  1147. but to lead us

  1148. as a church body.

  1149. Let your mind,

  1150. your heart,

  1151. and your spirit

  1152. be transformed by Him.

  1153. And just know that

  1154. we're all a work in progress.

1155. God's not done with us.

  1156. God's going to continue

  1157. to mold

  1158. and to transform us

  1159. and to work in

  1160. and through us

1161. all the days of our life.

  1162. What an amazing journey

  1163. to be on though,

1164. to be molded by Him.

1165. I'm sure you may identify

1166. or you may know someone

  1167. who you have seen

1168. God work in their life.

  1169. How powerful

  1170. is that?

1171. We are a work in progress.

1172. We are to be changed

  1173. and transformed

1174. to become more like Him.

1175. If you don't know the Lord,

  1176. may you respond

  1177. by believing the death,

  1178. burial,

  1179. and resurrection of Him.

  1180. And in knowing Him,

1181. may we continue to respond

  1182. by following

1183. where the Lord leads us.

  1184. And then finally,

  1185. the third one is

  1186. shine as Christ's lampstand.

  1187. I've put personal

  1188. and corporate

  1189. because there's a connection

  1190. that we find

  1191. with Revelation

1192. as well as the parables.

  1193. If you remember

1194. the parable of the lamp,

  1195. right,

  1196. letting your light shine,

  1197. don't hide it under a bushel.

  1198. But also the parable

  1199. of the ten virgins.

1200. We find that at times,

  1201. lampstands typically means churches,

1202. but it can also mean

  1203. us personally.

1204. So it's equally as important

  1205. for us to let

  1206. our own light shine,

1207. but for us as a church

1208. to have our light shine.

1209. Being a beacon of hope.

1210. I always think of that imagery

  1211. of a lighthouse, right?

1212. And you think of the,

  1213. you know,

  1214. the classic image

  1215. of there's a storm

  1216. that's going on

1217. and the waves are crashing

  1218. and there's thunder

  1219. and lightning

  1220. and there's a guy

  1221. on a boat

1222. and he has no idea

  1223. where's the lighthouse

1224. and finally he sees that light

1225. and he wants to go towards it.

  1226. What a powerful representation

  1227. we can think of

1228. when it comes to the church.

  1229. How many of us

  1230. are seeking

  1231. for that safety,

  1232. that security,

1233. let us come to the light.

  1234. And so,

  1235. guard your witness

  1236. with integrity and love.

  1237. Let your good works

  1238. point people to Christ

  1239. as I always mention.

  1240. We are not saved

  1241. by what we do.

  1242. We are saved

1243. by what has been done

  1244. for us

  1245. in Jesus Christ.

  1246. Because of this,

  1247. we are saved

  1248. so that

  1249. we can do good

1250. in the name of Christ.

1251. let your own lamp shine

  1252. and let the lampstand

  1253. of the church

  1254. shine brightly.

1255. And I encourage for you

  1256. to pray,

1257. to pray to the Lord,

1258. to pray for your brothers

  1259. and sisters in Christ,

1260. but also for this church,

1261. much like how we pray

  1262. for other churches

1263. that they will shine brightly.

1264. We think about all the churches

1265. that are around the area,

1266. we better be shining bright

  1267. because there's a lot of people

1268. that need to come to the Lord.

1269. It's very important for us.

1270. So let your own lamp shine

  1271. and let the lampstand

  1272. of the church

  1273. shine brightly.

  1274. Pray for your brothers

  1275. and sisters,

  1276. pray for shepherds,

1277. and let us think of how

  1278. we can encourage

  1279. one another this week.

  1280. And in closing,

  1281. let us take away

  1282. these two words,

  1283. fear not.

1284. When we think of the power,

  1285. the awe,

  1286. and the wonder

  1287. of Jesus Christ,

  1288. it's overwhelming

  1289. for sure.

  1290. However,

  1291. know that

  1292. Christ is with you

1293. every step of the way.

  1294. The living one

  1295. who died

  1296. and now lives

  1297. forevermore,

  1298. and that he

  1299. holds the keys.

  1300. Let us

  1301. listen to his voice.

  1302. Let us hear

  1303. and understand.

  1304. May we receive

  1305. his guidance

  1306. and keep his word

  1307. as we endure

  1308. trials,

  1309. tribulation,

  1310. and journey

  1311. on our spiritual walk

  1312. in Christ.

  1313. Let us pray together.

  1314. Father God,

  1315. we thank you

  1316. for this time

  1317. and this opportunity

  1318. for us to gather

  1319. today.

  1320. What rich

  1321. and heavy

  1322. teaching we have

  1323. today.

  1324. I pray,

  1325. Father,

  1326. that we may

  1327. hear

  1328. your word

  1329. and hear

  1330. so that we

  1331. understand.

  1332. You call for us

  1333. not to be afraid.

1334. May we not be afraid

  1335. on this journey

  1336. in life.

  1337. May we come

  1338. to know you.

  1339. May we receive

  1340. that free gift

  1341. of salvation

  1342. by believing in you.

  1343. May we grow.

  1344. may we not

  1345. hide away

  1346. our lamp

  1347. and may we

  1348. as the church

  1349. may we shine

  1350. brightly.

  1351. In other words,

  1352. Father,

  1353. I pray that we

  1354. may shine

  1355. brightly

  1356. in our own lives

  1357. but also

  1358. brightly

  1359. as the church.

  1360. And I pray

  1361. that we are

  1362. moved

  1363. from this

  1364. message today

  1365. to live

  1366. and to love

  1367. like you.

  1368. May you

  1369. move us

  1370. to act

  1371. and to respond

  1372. to you

  1373. whether that's

  1374. believing in you

  1375. the first time

  1376. returning to you

  1377. continuing on

  1378. the growth trajectory

  1379. or just being

  1380. moved

  1381. to act.

  1382. We love you

  1383. so much.

  1384. We praise you

  1385. and we glorify

  1386. your holy name.

1387. It is in the name

  1388. of Jesus Christ

  1389. that we pray

  1390. the living one

  1391. the alpha

  1392. and the omega

  1393. that we pray

  1394. and we all say

  1395. together amen

  1396. church.

  1397. Amen.

  1398. Thank you for

  1399. listening to

  1400. Ontario Community

  1401. Church.

  1402. If this blessed

  1403. you,

  1404. share it with

  1405. someone who

  1406. needs encouragement.

  1407. Remember the

  1408. promise.

  1409. Blessed are those

  1410. who read,

  1411. hear,

  1412. and keep the

  1413. words of this

  1414. prophecy.

  1415. So let us

  1416. live it this week

  1417. with steadfast faith

  1418. and a loving

  1419. witness.

  1420. This next Sunday

  1421. we will begin

  1422. week four

  1423. in our

  1424. Revelation

  1425. sermon series

  1426. with Revelation

  1427. chapter two

  1428. verses one

  1429. to seven

  1430. where Jesus's

  1431. letter is to

  1432. Ephesus.

  1433. We will explore

  1434. what it means

  1435. to keep our

  1436. first love

  1437. and to do

  1438. the first works

  1439. while shining

  1440. as his lampstand.

  1441. Grace and peace

  1442. to you

  1443. in the name

  1444. of Jesus Christ

  1445. the first

  1446. and the last

  1447. the alpha

  1448. and the omega

  1449. God bless.

  1450. God bless you

  1451. through

  1452. Thank you.

  1453. Thank you.
