  1. Welcome to Ontario Community Church, where we are encouraging, equipping, and engaging lives for Christ.

  2. ! I'm Pastor Patrick Daly, and you're listening to the Sermon Podcast from January 11, 2026.

  3. Today, we are asking a critical and crucial question.

  4. Who are we?

  5. Not just what we do, but who are we as the Church?

  6. Ontario Community Church, our shared identity in Christ.

  7. Today, we are looking at Colossians 3, verse 15, with supporting texts throughout Scripture.

    Colossians 3:15

  8. Before we go in, I want you to picture something.

  9. There is a Japanese art called Kintsugi, where broken pottery is mended back together with gold.

  10. The cracks that are once broken, they are not hidden, rather, they are highlighted.

  11. And the piece becomes more valuable than it was before it even broke.

  12. That image captures our individual lives as well as our Church perfectly.

  13. The Church has existed for 80 years, and it's been on this journey, with a rich Japanese heritage,

  14. and it's incredible to see how God has been mending and molding us all along.

  15. To think about it, we are more valuable than we were before, because of how God has worked through our brokenness.

  16. Last week, we heard Christ's call to be peacemakers, not peacekeepers.

  17. But peacemaking flows from identity, and a peacemaking Church must know who it is.

  18. Today, we are exploring the 4-H framework, four biblical movements that name our shared identity as Ontario Community Church.

  19. Hope, Heart, Hospital, and Hub.

  20. These four movements, or four parts, they are a part of who we are.

  21. This is not who we hope to be someday.

  22. This is our present reality.

  23. This is who Christ is forming us to be right now.

  24. Now, let us dive into God's Word together.

  25. God's Word together.

  26. It's good to be here this morning with all of you.

  27. Today, you may have seen in your notes, very simple notes.

  28. I think you guys have gotten so used to seeing reference verses and all the things that is kind of a mirror or an echo of the sermon that we go over.

  29. But for this, this is a very special Sunday as we are going over this idea of who we are as a church body.

  30. You know, it took me some time to really reflect on not only who the church is, but who we are as the body of Christ.

  31. This church, Ontario Community Church.

  32. And I have this message after the fact that we've gone over this year's theme.

  33. You remember it?

  34. It's blessed are the peacemakers.

  35. The call to be a peacemaker and not a peacekeeper.

  36. And this is piggybacked off of last year where we were building bridges for Christ.

  37. Extending the light, love, and truth of Jesus Christ to other people.

  38. And for this year, as we are thinking of what it means to be a peacemaker,

  39. I felt that it was very appropriate for us to consider and to clearly define who we are as a church body.

  40. Every single church that you go to is unique in their own capacity.

  41. And what God has done here in this place, when we think of the past 80 years of faithfulness,

  42. is something that is remarkable.

  43. To think of the richness of the history of the people that have come and gone,

  44. the lives that have been transformed, and how God has worked in every single one of those lives.

  45. It goes to show the power and the testimony of our Lord and our God.

  46. And we have to think that all of that is part of a wonderful story that God has for this church,

  47. which leads us to where we are today.

  48. Before we even begin in going into who we are as a church,

  49. there's always been this image that has really resounded and stuck out to me.

  50. It's the image of a broken plate being mended back together,

  51. showing the transforming power of how God works in all of our lives.

  52. Many of you may know this artwork known as Kintsugi art,

  53. where it shows a broken plate or a broken bowl being put back together

  54. and becoming more valuable than it once was before.

  55. Not only is this culturally significant, but it is spiritually significant.

  56. To think for a moment that without God, we're a mess.

  57. We are like that broken plate.

  58. But it is in Christ that he makes us whole,

  59. that he puts us back together and molds us piece by piece.

  60. And how much more valuable we are in the eyes of God than we were to begin with.

  61. And that image, since coming to this church and learning about the rich Japanese history,

  62. is a very powerful image of God working then and God working now.

  63. And we have to think of today, who we are today,

  64. that Christ has made peace.

  65. And he forms each and every one of us individually.

  66. In the same way, he molds us as a church body.

  67. And we are being shaped as a people that share a common identity.

  68. And we're going to go over what you will see.

  69. You get to see the preview of what we're going over today.

  70. Hope, heart, hospital, and hub.

  71. I always like if I can find four H's or four E's where it's repeatable

  72. and it's easy to understand for all of us.

  73. And I want you to think that if someone asked you right now,

  74. what kind of church do you go to?

  75. Who is Ontario Community Church?

  76. What kind of church body are they?

  77. How you may answer may be different than the next person, and that's okay.

  78. Your own experience in this church,

  79. it could be the wonderful worship songs that we sing

  80. and we play together.

  81. It could be the preaching from the Word of God.

  82. It could be how we celebrate communion.

  83. It could even be us coming together as the body of Christ,

  84. praying for one another, loving one another as God has loved us.

  85. There can be, and these are not the only things.

  86. These are many things we can think of.

  87. What kind of church is Ontario Community Church?

  88. How would you tell someone about this church?

  89. Or who we are as a church body?

  90. When I came here to, when I first began pastoring here,

  91. one of the first things that I did was,

  92. we went over this in our interactive reading,

  93. is to encourage, equip, and engage.

  94. The mission, the vision of this church is to

  95. encourage people to love God and to love others,

  96. so that they come and see that the Lord is good,

  97. to equip the saints,

  98. to be able to learn what it means to be a Christian,

  99. learning the Word of God,

  100. and then, of course, to engage,

  101. be engaged in the community as well as the church,

  102. because we have to think

  103. God is doing a wonderful thing in this place,

  104. and us as representatives of Christ

  105. were to go out into the world

  106. and to be a peacemaker,

  107. to be an ambassador for Christ,

  108. to extend the love of Christ to other people

  109. in our everyday interactions.

  110. And in all of this,

  111. that is the mission and vision.

  112. But what about who we are?

  113. Because in order for us to continue

  114. to carry out the mission of Christ,

  115. we have to identify who we are as a church body.

  116. And so I want to go,

  117. let's go into the verse.

  118. You know what, let's pray,

  119. then we'll go into the verse,

  120. and we'll go from there.

  121. Father God, we thank you

  122. for this time, this opportunity,

  123. for us to really take a moment

  124. in the beginning of this year.

  125. We're grateful for how you have worked

  126. in and through our lives

  127. as well as this church congregation.

  128. We pray that there will be understanding,

  129. ears that can hear,

  130. and eyes that can see

  131. the good things that you are doing in this place.

  132. May we focus on you as the source,

  133. and may we be led by you,

  134. and may we see who we are

  135. so that we can live and love like you,

  136. carrying out the mission

  137. that you have set before us.

  138. We say this all in the name of Jesus.

  139. Amen, church?

  140. So I want to go to our scripture.

  141. It's just one verse here.

  142. Let's read it together, church.

  143. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

  144. to which indeed you were called in one body.

  145. Now, normally I go over more than one specific verse.

  146. There's only been a handful of times

  147. I've gone over one or two verses.

  148. I usually go over more than that.

  149. But in this,

  150. the apostle Paul

  151. is writing to a church

  152. that is struggling with division.

  153. That doesn't happen nowadays, does it?

  154. We don't have divided churches.

  155. What is Paul talking about?

  156. That happened back in the day.

  157. We don't have those kind of problems whatsoever.

  158. Well, no.

  159. There's division in the church back in the day,

  160. just as it's been throughout the centuries.

  161. Church splits, arguments,

  162. and all these kind of things.

  163. Why?

  164. Because, well, we're imperfect people.

  165. A lot of us have a lot of opinions, right?

  166. We're not turning to the book of opinions, are we?

  167. We think about this.

  168. We see that the Jews and the Gentiles

  169. were trying to figure out

  170. how to be united as one body.

  171. Doesn't that sound familiar?

  172. To be united in Christ.

  173. Sometimes there are divisions.

  174. Sometimes there are arguments.

  175. And it's important for us

  176. to not focus on the things that divide us,

  177. but on the things that bring us together.

  178. And when we see this verse,

  179. to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts,

  180. that word is to let the peace govern your life.

  181. Some scholars talk about it being like a referee

  182. or like a coach in your own life.

  183. How many of you guys have had a coach before, right?

  184. Someone that's helping you make sure

  185. that you're performing at your best, right?

  186. When you're playing soccer or football.

  187. Or if you've never had a coach,

  188. maybe you can think of someone

  189. that's helped you go to the gym, right?

  190. A personal trainer, those kind of things.

  191. Or a life coach, whatever it is.

  192. Someone that is helping, guiding you through life.

  193. And in this sense,

  194. we're talking about the peace of Christ governing.

  195. And are coaches inactive?

  196. Do they stand by the sidelines?

  197. No, they do not.

  198. Otherwise, that's a terrible coach, right?

  199. You have an active coach, right?

  200. You have someone that is interacting with you,

  201. making sure you are performing at your best.

  202. And in this case,

  203. this kind of peace that comes from Christ

  204. is one that is active in our very lives.

  205. And it's important for us to know

  206. this peace is active and it guides us.

  207. And so let's go to that next slide then.

  208. What is happening, right?

  209. The peace of Christ is to rule in our hearts, right?

  210. It is to rule within us.

  211. And it is to flow from us.

  212. It's no different than the inexpressible,

  213. inexhaustible joy from the Lord

  214. or the love of Christ.

  215. What we receive from the Lord is in abundance.

  216. And we share that to other people.

  217. And what a wonderful opportunity

  218. for each and every one of us

  219. to extend the peace of Christ,

  220. the truth of the gospel,

  221. the love of Christ, right?

  222. Because the second point here

  223. is that the peace shapes who we are.

  224. We have to realize that Christ

  225. molds us and transforms us.

  226. And we are all on this journey in Christ,

  227. or at least we all should be.

  228. You all got to know the Lord first and foremost.

  229. But to be in a journey with Christ,

  230. walking alongside.

  231. I think of how the disciples on the road to Emmaus,

  232. when Jesus was walking by these people

  233. and explaining how the scriptures pointed to him.

  234. You want to talk about the best coach.

  235. It'd be nice to have Jesus literally right there

  236. next to you as you're traveling, right?

  237. I can think of this image of maybe going on a road trip

  238. and having Jesus next to you

  239. and explaining the prophecies

  240. and how they point to him.

  241. But if you can't think about a literal journey,

  242. think about your own spiritual journey,

  243. your own walk in the Lord

  244. and how the Lord walks with you.

  245. We also have to remember

  246. that peace is received from Christ.

  247. We receive this peace

  248. and we extend it to others.

  249. Like I said,

  250. we think of us being a new creation,

  251. us having a new identity.

  252. Think of the fruit of the spirit

  253. and all of the attributes,

  254. the qualities of what we are to embody in.

  255. But also in the same way

  256. that peace forms us individually,

  257. it forms us collectively as a church body.

  258. So it's not just individuals,

  259. it forms people group.

  260. And this third point then,

  261. we are called into one body united in Christ.

  262. And I always love those verses

  263. when it talks about

  264. the different parts of the body, right?

  265. Some of us may be an ear,

  266. some of us may be a nose

  267. or maybe a little toe kind of thing.

  268. Essentially, we all have different parts

  269. and different functions

  270. within the body of Christ.

  271. And they are all important

  272. in the eyes of God.

  273. Now, I'm not going to call any of you guys

  274. a little toe or a big toe at that,

  275. but the purpose is

  276. they're all important.

  277. They all serve in different capacities.

  278. And so that's so important for us

  279. that there's diversity

  280. that exists within the body.

  281. And so we are to be called into one body,

  282. not to be in isolation,

  283. but to come together,

  284. to come together united in Christ.

  285. And peace is something, again,

  286. that shapes us from who we are

  287. and from that what we do.

  288. And so in that,

  289. what does that mean then

  290. for the church then?

  291. We can see that the text is talking about

  292. let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts.

  293. But what does that mean for us here

  294. at Ontario Community Church,

  295. here in this town?

  296. Well, it's important to know then

  297. that we are to share Christ's peace

  298. and we have to know who we are.

  299. So it's important we identify

  300. who we are,

  301. where we belong to,

  302. and how God is working in our lives.

  303. And Christ does not merely give peace,

  304. as it says in Ephesians 2, verse 14.

    Ephesians 2:14

  305. He is our peace.

  306. And in order for us to be peacemakers,

  307. we have to grow in our faith.

  308. We have to properly identify

  309. who we are as a church.

  310. And our identity then can be named

  311. and we have,

  312. I call it the 4-H framework.

  313. You don't have to call it that.

  314. That's just me and my crazy titles, right?

  315. Four words.

  316. Can we say this together?

  317. Hope, heart, hospital, and hub.

  318. Four words that define

  319. who we are as a church.

  320. So I want to go to the first one then.

  321. A hope that is found in Christ.

  322. Now, of course,

  323. Christ has to be central in our lives.

  324. That we trust in the living God.

  325. We trust in Jesus Christ

  326. as our strength and our salvation, right?

  327. We have to,

  328. we are anchored in hope.

  329. We are anchored in it.

  330. Just like as it says that

  331. in Hebrews 6, 19,

  332. many of you guys think of

  333. the anchor for the soul, right?

  334. And this image of this weight, right?

  335. We can also think of

  336. hope being our foundation, right?

  337. There's many different verses

  338. that talk about this.

  339. But in the Hebrews 6, 19,

  340. it states that

  341. we have this as a sure

  342. and a steadfast anchor

  343. for the soul.

  344. And so it begins

  345. by us knowing

  346. and seeking the Lord

  347. and knowing that

  348. in all of this culture

  349. and craziness

  350. and division

  351. that exists in the world,

  352. we seek Christ

  353. who is above all of that.

  354. Who transcends all of that.

  355. And I don't know about you,

  356. I really believe

  357. that this world needs hope

  358. more than ever before,

  359. especially with,

  360. let's face it,

  361. the year just began

  362. and how many crazy things

  363. have already happened?

  364. I don't want to go

  365. too much into that.

  366. But I'm seeing a lot of you

  367. shake your heads and see.

  368. We know a lot of craziness

  369. is going on

  370. and people need

  371. the hope in Jesus Christ

  372. more than ever before.

  373. Can you imagine

  374. living in a world

  375. without knowing Christ?

  376. Having that sense

  377. of hopelessness

  378. and division and fear

  379. that exists in culture,

  380. it's out there.

  381. But we turn to the Lord

  382. in every season of life,

  383. in every situation

  384. and circumstance

  385. in our life.

  386. And so,

  387. hope allows for us

  388. to build bridges

  389. and to cross bridges.

  390. It allows for us

  391. to be peacemakers.

  392. And hope grounds us

  393. in our faith.

  394. It is the foundation.

  395. That's why we believe

  396. in Jesus Christ

  397. as the source,

  398. the way,

  399. the truth,

  400. and the life.

  401. It is so important.

  402. And in Romans 15, 13,

  403. may the God of hope

  404. fill you with all joy

  405. and peace in believing.

  406. That we are to be filled

  407. with joy

  408. and with peace

  409. and we are to receive

  410. salvation

  411. in believing in Jesus Christ,

  412. the death, burial,

  413. and resurrection

  414. of Christ.

  415. what wonderful things

  416. we receive.

  417. The most important thing

  418. being our salvation,

  419. but it doesn't stop there.

  420. We receive that peace.

  421. We receive joy

  422. and love

  423. and we're constantly

  424. being molded

  425. as God being

  426. the great potter

  427. and us being the clay.

  428. And so,

  429. Christ is not just

  430. our example.

  431. He is our Savior.

  432. He is our Lord.

  433. He is the King of Kings

  434. and He is the anchor

  435. for our souls.

  436. And it's important

  437. for us to know

  438. that when we face

  439. any sort of

  440. storm in life,

  441. culture,

  442. craziness,

  443. any sort of thing,

  444. some of us may have

  445. those emotions

  446. where we feel

  447. lost

  448. or abandoned

  449. or afraid

  450. or confused even,

  451. not understanding

  452. what's going on,

  453. but having that

  454. and having Christ

  455. is the greatest thing.

  456. Knowing that

  457. at the end of it all,

  458. it is God who reigns.

  459. He rules and reigns

  460. and He is victorious

  461. in the great battle

  462. between good and evil.

  463. And so,

  464. we don't deny

  465. that storms happen in life.

  466. We recognize

  467. storms are there,

  468. but we seek Christ

  469. as our anchor.

  470. No storm.

  471. Storms will pass,

  472. but the foundation

  473. in Christ will remain.

  474. Amen?

  475. And so,

  476. it's important for us

  477. to consider then,

  478. where is your anchor?

  479. Is it in Christ?

  480. Or is it in something

  481. that fades away

  482. because God

  483. doesn't change?

  484. He is everlasting

  485. to everlasting.

  486. Let us seek Christ

  487. and let us be a people

  488. that has our hope

  489. found in Christ.

  490. The second thing then

  491. is a heart.

  492. Let's read this together.

  493. A heart for God

  494. and neighbor.

  495. Right?

  496. It's so important for us

  497. to receive the love of Christ,

  498. this very powerful

  499. and beyond human understanding

  500. type of love.

  501. That God loves us

  502. in a way that

  503. is beyond us.

  504. Beyond our understanding

  505. and to know

  506. that we are called

  507. to love God

  508. and to love others

  509. in the same way,

  510. it's important for us

  511. to know that love

  512. is at the center then.

  513. It's just like

  514. that famous song,

  515. you guys probably know

  516. the Beatles, right?

  517. Love is all we need

  518. and specifically

  519. we need the love of Christ.

  520. And that love abounds

  521. from God's grace.

  522. We think of the fact

  523. that God loved us

  524. first and foremost.

  525. That he loved us

  526. and he sent his son,

  527. Jesus Christ,

  528. that whosoever believes

  529. shall not perish

  530. but have eternal life.

  531. How is your relationship

  532. with God?

  533. A lot of us can answer

  534. that very easily.

  535. I'm good with God.

  536. How are you with other people?

  537. That's maybe a little

  538. harder one, right?

  539. It can be difficult at times

  540. but we are reminded

  541. in Matthew,

  542. Gospel of Matthew

  543. where Christ says

  544. you shall love the Lord

  545. your God

  546. with all your heart

  547. and the second is like it

  548. you shall love

  549. your neighbor

  550. as yourself.

  551. To love God

  552. and to love people

  553. is important.

  554. And so

  555. when we think of

  556. loving the Lord,

  557. love him back.

  558. But now to extend it

  559. to other people,

  560. even people

  561. that may look funny

  562. or smell funny

  563. or may dress

  564. different than you,

  565. we are to extend

  566. that love to others.

  567. We think about that.

  568. Those that,

  569. think about those

  570. that make us angry

  571. at times.

  572. Think about those

  573. that you might have

  574. cut off when driving

  575. or the one that cut you off,

  576. right?

  577. Or the one that's

  578. paying with pennies

  579. at the grocery store

  580. and you wonder

  581. why.

  582. we're called to love

  583. our neighbor as well.

  584. It's very important

  585. for us.

  586. We don't abandon love

  587. and in fact,

  588. I remember

  589. in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 13 chapter mention

  590. chapter 13,

  591. many of you guys

  592. know that verse

  593. where it talks about

  594. love is patient,

  595. love is kind

  596. and it's talking about,

  597. that's the verse

  598. that's used very often

  599. at wedding ceremonies,

  600. right?

  601. And it's perfectly

  602. appropriate for weddings.

  603. But it's also important

  604. to look previously

  605. in 1 Corinthians 13

  606. where it talks about

  607. if I speak in tongues,

  608. if I have the faith

  609. to move mountains,

  610. if I can do all

  611. of these things

  612. but I do not have love,

  613. the text says

  614. I am nothing.

  615. Ooh, ouch, right?

  616. And it's so important

  617. in that entire section

  618. before the Apostle Paul

  619. mentions what love is,

  620. it's important to know

  621. we have got to have

  622. the love of God

  623. and to extend it

  624. to other people.

  625. I mean,

  626. you want to talk about

  627. something that is

  628. challenging for all of us.

  629. We have to have love

  630. in addition

  631. with our ability,

  632. with our talents,

  633. with our proper beliefs,

  634. right?

  635. The language even talks

  636. about a clanging cymbal.

  637. I don't know about that.

  638. That doesn't sound

  639. very good, right?

  640. We think about that.

  641. All of these kind of things

  642. and that our,

  643. how we view God,

  644. how we see God,

  645. how we understand Scripture,

  646. let us not lose love

  647. in the process.

  648. And it's very unfortunate

  649. when you meet people

  650. who have it all here,

  651. right?

  652. They have it all in their brain,

  653. and they have it all

  654. in their head,

  655. but what about the heart?

  656. As you learn

  657. and as you grow,

  658. you must keep

  659. that love for God

  660. and for people.

  661. And let us think

  662. of how that ties in

  663. with the peace of Christ.

  664. Is the peace of Christ

  665. ruling in your heart?

  666. how is your heart?

  667. Are you reacting from fear

  668. or the pursuit?

  669. I've met many people

  670. who they want to be so right,

  671. yet the love is gone.

  672. That's why we are called

  673. to balance the grace,

  674. the love of Christ

  675. with the truth of the word.

  676. And it's not an easy thing to do,

  677. but we're called

  678. to balance in that.

  679. So let us love God

  680. and love neighbor.

  681. The third thing then

  682. that pops up,

  683. let's read this together.

  684. A hospital for the hurting.

  685. Now, this is something

  686. that is very unique

  687. with this church.

  688. Now, granted,

  689. there should be healing

  690. and transformation

  691. in every church,

  692. but when we're talking

  693. about this specific church,

  694. the simple fact

  695. that this church

  696. has been described to me

  697. by people within the congregation

  698. and outside in the community

  699. as a hospital

  700. for people to heal

  701. is something that is remarkable.

  702. It's something

  703. that we should pay attention to.

  704. A place of spiritual healing,

  705. a place where there is transformation,

  706. and we get this image

  707. of a hospital.

  708. Well, we have to think,

  709. as I mentioned

  710. in the very beginning,

  711. this idea of the broken plates

  712. that we're all broken

  713. and we all need the Lord.

  714. And this sense of us recovering.

  715. Now, it doesn't have to be

  716. you're on life support, right?

  717. Now, granted,

  718. before we know the Lord,

  719. we kind of need the Lord.

  720. That's the most important thing.

  721. But there's other times

  722. where there needs to be

  723. like physical therapy

  724. if you break your leg, right?

  725. You need to make sure

  726. the immediate pain is fixed

  727. and to nurture it

  728. and to be put into proper health

  729. and to a plan

  730. and think of how

  731. you can be fully restored.

  732. And I think about

  733. the history of this church.

  734. I think about how

  735. in the very beginning,

  736. the Japanese heritage

  737. and how the people

  738. could come together

  739. and worship God together.

  740. Talk about a place,

  741. a refuge, as it were.

  742. A place where

  743. there is that sense

  744. of healing

  745. from the very beginning.

  746. And then we even think about now

  747. how people are hurt

  748. in different capacities.

  749. It could be from racism.

  750. It could be from spiritual abuse.

  751. It could be just prayer

  752. for healing of the body.

  753. When we're talking about a hospital,

  754. I'm not just talking

  755. about physical healing.

  756. I'm talking about spiritual healing

  757. and allowing for God

  758. to work in and through

  759. all of our lives.

  760. Just like it says

  761. in Colossians,

  762. put on then

  763. compassionate hearts,

  764. kindness,

  765. humility,

  766. and patience,

  767. bearing with one another.

  768. Because the wonderful thing

  769. about a hospital,

  770. especially a church

  771. that is working

  772. and helping restore people,

  773. is that we help

  774. each other out.

  775. Bearing one another's burdens

  776. is so important.

  777. Now,

  778. I think I've mentioned it before

  779. and I'll mention it again.

  780. There was a book

  781. that I was reading

  782. that out of every

  783. ten

  784. rebukes

  785. that are given,

  786. nine of them

  787. should have been

  788. prayer

  789. and presence.

  790. Being there to help someone

  791. and seeing,

  792. okay,

  793. what happened?

  794. instead of being so quick

  795. to rebuke

  796. and to

  797. attack someone

  798. as it were.

  799. It's not to say

  800. that rebuke can't happen,

  801. but more often than not,

  802. we have to think

  803. of how people

  804. receive misunderstandings

  805. in the world

  806. of Scripture

  807. or how people

  808. are hurt

  809. by even the world.

  810. We are to have,

  811. we have this church culture

  812. of where

  813. we help people.

  814. in Psalm 147

    Psalms 147:3

  815. verse 3,

  816. he heals

  817. the brokenhearted

  818. and binds up

  819. their wounds.

  820. A description

  821. of how God is,

  822. right,

  823. those that are brokenhearted

  824. and those that have been wounded,

  825. but also how us,

  826. as we are to share

  827. in the love of Christ,

  828. we are to help

  829. people heal.

  830. I can't tell you

  831. how many people

  832. I have talked with

  833. who have been hurt

  834. in one capacity

  835. or another.

  836. It's just living

  837. in a fallen

  838. and broken world.

  839. Sometimes it's,

  840. and a lot of times

  841. it's from the world.

  842. Sometimes it's from

  843. a brother or sister

  844. in Christ.

  845. It's reminding,

  846. it's important for us

  847. to be reminded

  848. that

  849. us as human beings

  850. we're imperfect

  851. and we live

  852. in an imperfect world,

  853. but we worship

  854. a perfect God

  855. who heals

  856. and restores

  857. each and every one of us

  858. and for us to be called

  859. to help people

  860. be restored,

  861. to be transformed

  862. and healed

  863. is a wonderful calling

  864. for us.

  865. That is something

  866. that the world

  867. does not have to offer.

  868. Sure,

  869. they have physical therapy.

  870. I'm not denying hospitals

  871. or something,

  872. but beyond that,

  873. something that is

  874. truly unique

  875. about our church,

  876. this hospital

  877. for the hurting.

  878. And healing

  879. takes time.

  880. It takes patience.

  881. It takes passion.

  882. And it's important

  883. for us to know

  884. that hospitals

  885. exist because

  886. people are wounded.

  887. Just like how Christ

  888. said that he came

  889. for those that were sick.

  890. That's important.

  891. We all

  892. need

  893. healing.

  894. We all need

  895. transformation.

  896. We all need

  897. to continue

  898. to be transformed

  899. by him.

  900. And so,

  901. for us being

  902. a peacemaker,

  903. we are

  904. living and loving

  905. like Christ.

  906. It's kind of like

  907. going out

  908. and being a nurse

  909. or going out

  910. and being a doctor,

  911. going out

  912. and representing

  913. Christ

  914. and saying,

  915. look,

  916. there's a better way.

  917. You're in darkness.

  918. Why don't you come

  919. to the light

  920. or you've been hurt.

  921. Come to Christ

  922. so that you can be healed.

  923. there's a better way.

  924. That's part of our mission

  925. in sharing the good news

  926. of the gospel.

  927. Sharing in our testimony

  928. and how,

  929. hey,

  930. I have been healed.

  931. I have been restored

  932. because of Christ.

  933. Because of how God

  934. has worked in my life.

  935. You should do the same.

  936. You should come

  937. and see that the Lord

  938. is good.

  939. And so,

  940. one final thing

  941. about a hospital

  942. is a simple fact

  943. that

  944. when we all come to church,

  945. none of us here

  946. are perfect.

  947. Raise your hand

  948. if you're a perfect person.

  949. I should not even be

  950. raising my hand

  951. in this sense.

  952. None of us

  953. are perfect.

  954. And that's why

  955. we continue to rely

  956. on the Lord,

  957. his strength,

  958. his comfort,

  959. his peace,

  960. all of these things.

  961. And so,

  962. ask yourself the question,

  963. are you making room

  964. for healing

  965. in yourself

  966. and in other people?

  967. The fourth thing then,

  968. let's read it together then.

  969. Let's go to that next slide.

  970. It is a hub

  971. for the community.

  972. Now,

  973. this is an interesting one

  974. because

  975. something that's

  976. important for us

  977. is

  978. we have this sense

  979. of healing,

  980. but a place

  981. where people

  982. can gather together.

  983. I always like,

  984. I have this

  985. painting that my mother

  986. got me.

  987. It's called

  988. The Little Brown Church.

  989. And it's a little

  990. church building.

  991. It's like,

  992. you know,

  993. circa the 1800s

  994. kind of thing.

  995. Just an old school

  996. country church.

  997. And I love that image

  998. of a church

  999. being a place

  1000. where people

  1001. gather together

  1002. to worship the Lord,

  1003. right?

  1004. The corporate body,

  1005. the body of Christ

  1006. coming together.

  1007. But also

  1008. as a place

  1009. where

  1010. in a lot of

  1011. those kind of towns,

  1012. all the church

  1013. building was used

  1014. for town halls

  1015. and was also

  1016. used for school,

  1017. was also used

  1018. for many different

  1019. things.

  1020. And granted,

  1021. we're not in

1022. that kind of an area,

  1023. but the idea

  1024. of having,

  1025. being a hub

  1026. for the community

  1027. is very powerful,

  1028. not only just

  1029. for the church

  1030. community,

  1031. the church body,

  1032. but also

  1033. as an invitation

  1034. for the community

  1035. to come

  1036. and see

  1037. what we are doing,

  1038. what we are about,

  1039. that the Lord

  1040. is good

  1041. and that

  1042. we have

  1043. our own

  1044. culture,

  1045. we have our

  1046. own way

  1047. and that God

  1048. is doing

  1049. a remarkable

  1050. thing in this

  1051. place.

  1052. As Ephesians

    Ephesians 2:19

  1053. chapter 2

  1054. verse 19

  1055. states,

  1056. you are no longer

  1057. strangers,

  1058. but members

  1059. of the household

  1060. of God.

  1061. It's important

  1062. for us to know

  1063. that we are not

  1064. only building

  1065. the church here

  1066. where we

  1067. as Amber

  1068. was mentioning

  1069. earlier,

  1070. we'll be having

  1071. Bible studies,

  1072. we will be having

  1073. Sunday school,

  1074. we'll be having

  1075. the life

  1076. of the church,

  1077. but as

  1078. also what is

  1079. important is to

  1080. have an opportunity

  1081. for us to be

  1082. present within

  1083. the community,

  1084. to build

  1085. relationships

  1086. with people

  1087. and to represent

  1088. Christ

  1089. because when we

  1090. have these

  1091. parent cafes

  1092. and these dad

  1093. cafes,

  1094. it allows

  1095. for

  1096. conversation,

  1097. it allows

  1098. for people

  1099. to,

  1100. maybe they've

  1101. never been

  1102. to a church

  1103. before or

  1104. they have a

  1105. misunderstanding

  1106. or they've

  1107. been hurt

  1108. before,

  1109. and you

  1110. allow to

  1111. plant seeds

  1112. with other

  1113. people.

  1114. Now certainly

  1115. we're called

  1116. to go out

  1117. into the

  1118. community

  1119. and to

  1120. serve

  1121. and to

  1122. represent

  1123. Christ

  1124. as we

  1125. go out

  1126. from the

  1127. doors of

  1128. the church,

  1129. but it's

  1130. also as

  1131. important

  1132. to invite

  1133. the community

  1134. on in.

  1135. Just building

  1136. relationships.

  1137. You know,

  1138. it's interesting

  1139. the constant

  1140. conversation

  1141. that I have

  1142. with our

  1143. own community

  1144. partnerships

  1145. about how

  1146. people say,

  1147. oh,

  1148. you're a

  1149. church.

  1150. Why are

  1151. you working

  1152. with this

  1153. organization?

  1154. Well,

  1155. because we're

  1156. working for

  1157. the common

  1158. good.

  1159. This

  1160. XYZ

  1161. or building

  1162. healthy

  1163. families

  1164. is focused

  1165. on having

  1166. strong

  1167. families

  1168. and so

  1169. do we.

  1170. We focus

  1171. on that

  1172. as well.

  1173. so we

  1174. have a

  1175. common

  1176. goal.

  1177. Now,

  1178. certainly,

  1179. they're not

  1180. going to

  1181. talk about

  1182. Christ,

  1183. but you

  1184. don't think

  1185. that Christians

  1186. being present

  1187. in that

  1188. space would

  1189. allow for

  1190. relationships

  1191. to mold,

  1192. to be

  1193. formed,

  1194. and people

  1195. to ask

  1196. questions.

  1197. it happens

  1198. all the

  1199. time.

  1200. Hey,

  1201. you're a

  1202. pastor.

  1203. How do

  1204. you raise

  1205. your kids?

  1206. And I

  1207. answer,

  1208. not perfectly.

  1209. Right?

  1210. A lot of

  1211. people tend

  1212. to think,

  1213. like,

  1214. oh,

  1215. you're a

  1216. pastor,

  1217. you must

  1218. have it

  1219. down.

  1220. No,

  1221. I don't.

  1222. You should

  1223. see a

  1224. Sunday morning

  1225. sometime when

  1226. you're getting

  1227. the kids

  1228. up.

  1229. It's

  1230. chaotic.

  1231. They're

  1232. kids.

  1233. Okay?

  1234. And I'm

  1235. sure if

  1236. you haven't

  1237. thought of

  1238. that,

  1239. maybe think

  1240. of the time

  1241. when you

  1242. were a

  1243. kid.

  1244. Did you

  1245. get up

  1246. every Sunday

  1247. ready to

  1248. rock and

  1249. roll?

  1250. The answer

  1251. is no.

  1252. Right?

  1253. But it's

  1254. so important

  1255. to just

  1256. be present

  1257. and to

  1258. have those

  1259. kind of

  1260. conversations.

  1261. Now,

  1262. it doesn't

  1263. mean everyone

  1264. will come

  1265. to Christ.

  1266. It doesn't

  1267. mean everyone

  1268. will come

  1269. to our

  1270. church,

  1271. but at

  1272. least the

  1273. effort is

  1274. being made

  1275. with people.

  1276. As we

  1277. are called

  1278. out to

  1279. share in

  1280. the love

  1281. of Christ

  1282. and build

  1283. those

  1284. relationships,

  1285. you never

  1286. know the

  1287. profound

  1288. impact you

  1289. will have

  1290. by simply

  1291. being present,

  1292. especially those

  1293. in the community,

  1294. especially those

  1295. who are in

  1296. need.

  1297. That's why

  1298. when we're

  1299. looking at a

  1300. hospital for

  1301. the hurting

  1302. and a hub

  1303. for the

  1304. community,

  1305. I have to

  1306. be very

  1307. intentional

  1308. by explaining

  1309. church culture

  1310. as well as

  1311. community presence

  1312. because they're

  1313. both important.

  1314. A hub,

  1315. then,

  1316. is a place

  1317. of presence,

  1318. a place where

  1319. connections are

  1320. made,

  1321. where relationships

  1322. are built,

  1323. and also

  1324. a place

  1325. of belonging.

  1326. And we

  1327. have to be

  1328. reminded as

  1329. we've gone

  1330. over in

  1331. last week's

  1332. sermon how

  1333. Christ tore

  1334. down the

  1335. dividing wall.

  1336. Christ tore

  1337. down the

  1338. dividing walls

  1339. and we are

  1340. to live

  1341. with open

  1342. minds and

  1343. open hearts

  1344. to other

  1345. people,

  1346. to exhibit

  1347. that love

  1348. and to stand

  1349. firm on the

  1350. truth of

  1351. the word.

  1352. And so

  1353. in all of

  1354. this,

  1355. we have to

  1356. ask ourselves,

  1357. how can we

  1358. serve one

  1359. another and

  1360. how can we

  1361. serve those

  1362. in the

  1363. community

  1364. representing

  1365. Christ?

  1366. Because think

  1367. about it,

  1368. isn't the

  1369. community our

  1370. neighbor?

  1371. Just as we're

  1372. called to love

  1373. God and to

  1374. love our

  1375. neighbor,

  1376. what better

  1377. opportunity

  1378. than to be

  1379. present with

  1380. those in

  1381. the community?

  1382. You'd be

  1383. amazed the

  1384. kind of

  1385. stories and

  1386. the kind

  1387. of people

  1388. they are.

  1389. And it's

  1390. an honor

  1391. to meet

  1392. them,

  1393. for them

  1394. to feel

  1395. safe enough

  1396. to even

  1397. walk in

  1398. a church.

  1399. It's crazy,

  1400. I mean,

  1401. it can be

  1402. hard for us

  1403. to think

  1404. that there

  1405. are some

  1406. people who

  1407. are afraid

  1408. of even

  1409. entering a

  1410. church building,

  1411. but yet they

  1412. enter for the

  1413. first time.

  1414. Praise God

  1415. that progress

  1416. is being

  1417. made.

  1418. And so

  1419. all of

  1420. this,

  1421. how can we

  1422. serve each

  1423. other and

  1424. our community

  1425. who is

  1426. our

  1427. neighbor?

  1428. And so

  1429. in all of

  1430. this,

  1431. let's go to

  1432. this next

  1433. slide.

  1434. This is

  1435. who Christ

  1436. is forming

  1437. us to be.

  1438. As people

  1439. who have

  1440. received

  1441. peace,

  1442. we are

  1443. people who

  1444. bring peace

  1445. to others.

  1446. As we

  1447. receive love,

  1448. we are to

  1449. share in

  1450. love.

  1451. We are to

  1452. share in

  1453. how God

  1454. is working

  1455. in all of

  1456. our lives.

  1457. And last

  1458. year we were

  1459. talking about

  1460. building bridges

  1461. and this

  1462. year we

  1463. are being

  1464. a peacemaker,

  1465. carrying out

  1466. Christ's

  1467. mission to

  1468. the church

  1469. and to

  1470. the community.

  1471. Think about

  1472. that.

  1473. Think about

  1474. how important

  1475. all of these

  1476. four things

  1477. are in

  1478. our own

  1479. church

  1480. context.

  1481. This isn't

  1482. who we

  1483. hope to be

  1484. someday.

  1485. This is

  1486. our reality

  1487. as a

  1488. church

  1489. body.

  1490. Our hope

  1491. is in

  1492. Jesus

  1493. Christ.

  1494. We are

  1495. to love

  1496. God and

  1497. love our

  1498. neighbors.

  1499. We are

  1500. to be

  1501. that

  1502. hospital

  1503. for those

  1504. that are

  1505. hurting

  1506. and a

  1507. hub for

  1508. the

  1509. community.

  1510. Let us

  1511. think about

  1512. that.

  1513. Let us

  1514. think of

  1515. how Christ

  1516. calls for

  1517. us to

  1518. have that

  1519. peace

  1520. rule within

  1521. our hearts.

  1522. All of

  1523. these things

  1524. are equally

  1525. important.

  1526. what an

  1527. honor it

  1528. is for

  1529. us to

  1530. be here

  1531. today and

  1532. to know

  1533. that God

  1534. is working

  1535. in all

  1536. of us.

  1537. We think

  1538. of the

  1539. future,

  1540. we think

  1541. of the

  1542. present,

  1543. and we

  1544. think of

  1545. the past.

  1546. All of

  1547. these things.

  1548. And so

  1549. this is

  1550. who Christ

  1551. is forming

  1552. us to be

  1553. today.

  1554. Let us

  1555. think of

  1556. all of

  1557. this

  1558. together.

  1559. that this

  1560. is who

  1561. we are

  1562. as a

  1563. church.

  1564. And we

  1565. thank God

  1566. for that.

  1567. We thank

  1568. God that

  1569. we are

  1570. formed by

  1571. Christ and

  1572. we are

  1573. called to

  1574. live as

  1575. peacemakers.

  1576. And so

  1577. in closing,

  1578. I didn't

  1579. have all

  1580. the crazy

  1581. notes that

  1582. I normally

  1583. have,

  1584. but I

  1585. want you

  1586. to take

  1587. this home

  1588. and to

  1589. reflect on

  1590. this and

  1591. to reflect

  1592. on how

  1593. God is

  1594. working in

  1595. this place

  1596. and will

  1597. continue to

  1598. work in

  1599. this place

  1600. and how

  1601. this

  1602. identifies

  1603. who we

  1604. are as

  1605. the local

  1606. church

  1607. and how

  1608. we are

  1609. called to

  1610. live and

  1611. love like

  1612. Christ.

  1613. Let's pray

  1614. together.

  1615. Father God,

  1616. we thank

  1617. you

  1618. for this

  1619. insight,

  1620. for your

  1621. word,

  1622. for this

  1623. congregation,

  1624. for this

  1625. church and

  1626. those who

  1627. are attending

  1628. even online.

  1629. You have

  1630. given us

  1631. wisdom

  1632. and insight.

  1633. I pray,

  1634. Father,

  1635. that we

  1636. remain

  1637. rooted in

  1638. you.

  1639. May we

  1640. recognize

  1641. that our

  1642. hope is

  1643. found in

  1644. your son,

  1645. Jesus Christ,

  1646. and that

  1647. who we

  1648. are,

  1649. we have

  1650. a heart

  1651. for you,

  1652. Father God,

  1653. and for

  1654. other people.

  1655. And who

  1656. we are

  1657. is a

  1658. hospital for

  1659. the hurting.

  1660. Father,

  1661. I think of

  1662. all the

  1663. people who

  1664. have been

  1665. hurt in

  1666. some

  1667. capacity,

  1668. those who

  1669. need

  1670. spiritual,

  1671. physical,

  1672. mental,

  1673. emotional,

  1674. holistic type

  1675. of healing,

  1676. and how

  1677. you have

  1678. done so.

  1679. And how

  1680. you transform

  1681. each and

  1682. every one

  1683. of us.

  1684. And who

  1685. we are,

  1686. Father,

  1687. how you

  1688. have revealed

  1689. that we

  1690. are a

  1691. hub for

  1692. the community,

  1693. a hub for

  1694. our congregation,

  1695. and a hub

  1696. for those,

  1697. for our

  1698. neighbors,

  1699. to come

  1700. and see

  1701. who we

  1702. are,

  1703. but most

  1704. importantly,

  1705. who you

  1706. are.

  1707. We love

  1708. you so

  1709. much.

  1710. And we

  1711. ask that

  1712. we may

  1713. remain

  1714. united

  1715. in Christ,

  1716. that we

  1717. seek

  1718. unity,

  1719. and that

  1720. we can

  1721. be a

  1722. peacemaker

  1723. in our

  1724. lives,

  1725. in our

  1726. own

  1727. personal

  1728. context.

  1729. And

  1730. Father,

  1731. we are

  1732. in awe

  1733. of who

  1734. you are,

  1735. what you

  1736. have done,

  1737. what you

  1738. continue to

  1739. do,

  1740. that you

  1741. remain

  1742. everlasting

  1743. to everlasting,

  1744. and that you

  1745. are the

  1746. foundation

  1747. may we

  1748. build our

  1749. lives and

  1750. our

  1751. church

  1752. upon you.

  1753. May we

  1754. never

  1755. abandon

  1756. love,

  1757. and may

  1758. we always

  1759. care for

  1760. you and

  1761. for others.

  1762. May we

  1763. represent

  1764. Christ in

  1765. what we

  1766. say and

  1767. in what

  1768. we do.

  1769. It is in

  1770. the name

  1771. of Jesus

  1772. Christ that

  1773. we pray,

  1774. and we all

  1775. say together,

  1776. can I get

  1777. an amen,

  1778. church?

  1779. Amen.

  1780. Amen.

  1781. Thank you

  1782. for joining

  1783. us for

  1784. this message

  1785. from Ontario

  1786. Community

  1787. Church.

  1788. Today we

  1789. have reflected

  1790. on who

  1791. we are

  1792. as a

  1793. church

  1794. body,

  1795. not just

  1796. what we

  1797. do,

  1798. but our

  1799. shared

  1800. identity

  1801. in Christ.

  1802. Just like

  1803. that

  1804. Kintsugi

  1805. pottery,

  1806. we are

  1807. broken,

  1808. and we

  1809. are mended

  1810. together with

  1811. gold,

  1812. the gold

  1813. of God's

  1814. grace,

  1815. and we

  1816. are made

  1817. more valuable

  1818. through our

  1819. journey in

  1820. Christ.

  1821. I want

  1822. you to

  1823. think about

  1824. these four

  1825. movements,

  1826. or the

  1827. 4-H

  1828. framework.

  1829. We are

  1830. a hope

  1831. found in

  1832. Christ,

  1833. and we

  1834. are anchored

  1835. when everything

  1836. else is

  1837. shaking around.

  1838. We are a

  1839. hope for

  1840. God and

  1841. neighbor,

  1842. loving with

  1843. more than

  1844. just correct

  1845. beliefs.

  1846. We are a

  1847. hospital for

  1848. the hurting,

  1849. a place where

  1850. healing and

  1851. transformation

  1852. happens,

  1853. and wounds

  1854. don't have to

  1855. be hidden.

  1856. And we are

  1857. a hub for

  1858. the community,

  1859. where church

  1860. family and

  1861. neighbors and

  1862. people from

  1863. the community

  1864. can gather

  1865. together and

  1866. belong.

  1867. These four

  1868. pieces,

  1869. or these four

  1870. movements,

  1871. the 4-H,

  1872. they belong

  1873. together,

  1874. hope,

  1875. heart,

  1876. hospital,

  1877. and hub.

  1878. This is our

  1879. present reality.

  1880. This is who

  1881. Christ is

  1882. forming us to

  1883. be today.

  1884. And as

  1885. people who

  1886. have received

  1887. peace,

  1888. we live as

  1889. people who

  1890. bring peace

  1891. to the world.

  1892. last year,

  1893. we focused

  1894. on building

  1895. bridges,

  1896. and this

  1897. year,

  1898. in 2026,

  1899. we're crossing

  1900. those bridges

  1901. as peacemakers,

  1902. the ones who

  1903. carry out

  1904. Christ's

  1905. mission.

  1906. May the

  1907. peace of

  1908. Christ rule

  1909. in your

  1910. hearts.

  1911. May you

  1912. know where

  1913. your hope

  1914. is anchored.

  1915. May love

  1916. flow from

  1917. your heart.

  1918. May you

  1919. find healing

  1920. and offer

  1921. it to

  1922. others.

  1923. And may

  1924. you see

  1925. the church

  1926. not just

  1927. as a place

  1928. that you

  1929. attend,

  1930. but as a

  1931. place where
