God’s Love

This is a good place to be. Amen.

Beautiful singing this morning, beautiful worship, beautiful

songs and entering into the presence of the Lord and singing

that last song. I thought about Lamentations

323. Because of the mercies of the

Lord, we are not consumed. His compassion's fail not.

They are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

Aren't you glad that you serve a faithful God today, man?

Even when we are. Faithless.

He is faithful and so I'm I'm so thankful to the goodness of the

Lord. He's a good, good father and we

celebrate him today and honor the blessings of the Lord.

And always good to be to be with you.

Always good to come. And whether I'm, I'm filling in

for pastor, whether he's gone or whether he's here, it's just

always a delight to come and share with you.

And, and we do, we do feel like family.

You've made us feel feel like family, except for brother Gary,

but but we're still praying for him.

He's still working. The Lord's still working on him.

Work in progress. Are we all a work in progress.

Amen. Amen.

Look over and tell your neighbor you look better than you did

last week. This is an exciting time to to

be a Christian, to be alive, to, to live and to see, see what God

is doing. And, and there's so many great

things that God's doing around the world, so many powerful

testimonies of the spirit moving and different places and

revivals breaking out and, and just spontaneous.

Not, not, you know, not the scheduled revivals like we like

we've had in the past. And, and I'm thankful for that.

And, and, but just to see spontaneous, you know, outburst

and, and outpouring of the spirit in so many different

places and unusual places. I just just, it just confirms

that God's word is true, that God's in charge.

Don't let the negative news discourage you.

It's all, it's all, it's all working out the way God planned

it. And we're, we're in his time and

he's got, he's got a plan, He's got a time and he's, I'm just,

I'm just thankful for what God's doing.

Don't give up, Don't lose hope because he's working it all out

and, and, and, and, and it's, it's exciting.

Every time we come, there's new faces, Lord's adding, adding the

church and blessing you. And it's always, always a joy to

come share with you. Going to share this morning from

first John chapter 4 few verses I believe Lord laid on my heart

1 John 4 · chapter mention

for today for you familiar. These should be familiar For

those of you been in church a while, if you're new, it might

might not be as familiar, but it should be familiar First John

1 John 4:7

chapter 4, verse 7. Beloved, let us love one

another, for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is born of

God and knoweth God. He that knoweth.

Not He that loveth not knoweth, not God.

For God is love. In this was manifested the love

of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son

in the world, that we might live through Him.

Herein is love, not that we love God, but that He loved us and

sent his Son to be. The propitiation or the

atonement or the appeasement or the sacrifice?

That's what that word propitiation means for our sins.

What if I were to tell you this morning that a wealthy man sent

me to tell you go everywhere? To who?

Everybody I spoke to? Everybody I came in contact

with. That if you would.

Knock on his door and he opened that door and let you in.

And if you believed he could. Forgive you.

Of whatever bill, whatever debt, financial obligation you had, he

would forgive you of that. He'd give you financial freedom

if you'd believe he could do it. Somebody would say, well, no, I,

I, I'd be too embarrassed. I'd be too ashamed to, to let

him do they. He doesn't know, doesn't know

how I lived. He doesn't, he doesn't know what

I've, what I've done and things how, how I've squandered and I'd

be too embarrassed. You, you think people would say

that? They'd be lined up down the

street. They'd be.

Lined up around the. Block waiting to receive a free

gift, but God has. A greater gift?

For us to receive then the release of a medical bill or a

mortgage debt or a car payment or a loan or some kind of

financial obligation. But he would.

God pays a debt he didn't know. But we owe a debt we couldn't

pay. And like the old song says, I

needed somebody to wash my sins away.

And now I. Sing a brand new song, Amazing

Grace. Christ Jesus paid a debt he

didn't know. You see, that's that's why we're

here today. That's why we're celebrating.

That's why we're worship because we're serving a God who paid a

debt he didn't know. But we owed a debt we couldn't

pay, and we needed somebody to pay.

That debt? We needed somebody.

The Bible said the wages of sin is dead, but but the gift of God

is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now I want to ask you a question.

How many? Let's take a little.

Grew up, I know some of you did, but.

How many grew? Up as a child, you either grew

up in church. Or you.

Went to church or you were taken to church when you were young

and you went to Sunday school or VBS or kids church when you were

young. Let me let me see, let's see.

that's great. Awesome.

So if you did you, you you grew up like.

Krista and I we we grew up in church.

We both grew. Up in pastors homes.

And so we grew up in church our whole lives.

Now that didn't save us. But we grew.

Up in church, we had to. We had.

You know being a pastor's kid does not save you.

Right, but but growing up in. Church.

We kids church there were. Songs that that we learned in

kids church. Now let's.

See. Let's see, let's see.

but there's probably one that we all know that I think you see

all. Of these, all of these.

Songs were important. Because they were teaching song

is a powerful. Way to learn, right?

We learn through. Singing, especially when you're

a child. It's it's.

Important because you can teach. Biblical and theological truths

as. A.

As a child. Through songs, when they can't

read, they learn songs and those songs begin teaching.

So as as children, those of us that that grew up.

In going to church. We begin to learn biblical

truths and Bible stories, often times through songs we learned

about Father Abraham. We learned that that God's got

the. Whole world in his hand.

We learned about Shadrach, Meshach and.

Abednego and then the fiery Furnace.

We we learned all kinds of of of biblical truths, often times

through songs, but one of the most powerful, powerful

biblical. Truths is this Jesus loves me?

Yes. A great.

Theologian from the 20th century.

His name was Karl Barth. He was in the University of

Chicago giving a lecture and at the end of his lecture questions

were were being asked and a student stood up in the

auditorium and said. What is the?

Greatest theological statement or that you could share with us?

What do you believe is the most? Theological profound statement.

That you could share with anybody without hesitation, he

said. Jesus loves me this I I know for

the Bible. Tells me so how?

Simple, but yet how profound. That God loves us, it's one

thing to. Read that God loves.

Us It's one thing to. Hear the statement God loves us,

but. God didn't just.

Say it. He demonstrated it.

He showed it. He, he performed that love.

He God, God declared. His love, you see.

Jesus loves me this. I know.

Life is filled with. Uncertainty.

There's a lot of things about life.

We don't know we, we there's things that we face.

Life is filled with troubles. It's filled with trials, filled

with. Tribulations filled with.

Testing ups and downs. Success, failures, highs, lows,

mountains, valleys. I mean life is filled with all.

Kinds of things there's. All kinds of certainties.

About uncertainties. About life.

But no matter the uncertainties, if you know for if you have this

this thing know in your. Heart.

I am loved by God. Jesus loves me.

You see if you understand and you know, you know when you're

knower, you know in the heart of hearts you, you know beyond the

shadow the doubt that you are loved by God.

It don't matter what you face, it doesn't matter what

uncertainty comes, It doesn't matter what sickness, it doesn't

matter what trial, it doesn't matter what hurdles you have to

go through. It doesn't matter what comes in

life. If you know beyond a shadow of a

doubt I am loved by God, you can make it through anything because

you have and you know the love of God.

You see, today begins what we call Holy Week, the, the, the,

the Palm Sunday, the triumphal entry of Jesus coming through to

Jerusalem and they're waving palm branches.

They're throwing them down on the ground.

He's coming, he's fulfilling prophecy, riding on a young colt

into Jerusalem. And they're, they're, they're

singing hosanna. Blessed is he who comes in the

name of the Lord. And and this week begins what we

call Holy Week, where we remember what Jesus came now

they they thought he was coming to conquer by conquer Rome and

take over it and overthrow the government, but they didn't

understand what what that he was going to the cross.

He'd been telling them, he'd been preparing them, but they

didn't get it, that he was going to lay his life down, that he

was going to sacrifice himself. And we, we go through this week

and we know that the, the events that take place and the, the

arrest and the trial, the mockery, the betrayal, the, the

rejection and the beating, the, the horrible things that took

place and hanging on the cross on on Friday and, and, and, and

his death and being buried but resurrected on Sunday morning

that we'll celebrate next week. A great celebration.

But but, but it all began on on this this, this day, this poem

Sunday. As we, as we.

Reflect and think about what he did.

But I, I got thinking, well, should I preach a poem?

What, what can I preach today? And there's all kinds of

messages that I could preach on on this Sunday.

And I thought, you know what, I'm just going to sum it all up.

I'm just going to sum up all of these events and, and just put

it all together. And then, and it really just

sums up in these words, God loves us.

That's what it's all about. That's what it, that's what all

of it. When you when you mesh all of it

together, the the that scarlet thread that runs from Genesis

all the way through the Scripture, it's all about God

loving us and demonstrating his love toward us.

That's what it's. About this this this this.

Celebration this coming together.

This, this. We're here.

Today the. Songs we sing.

And the, and the time that we spend together and the, and all

the things that we do, it's all because God loves us.

Let me just just just show you a few things about, about the love

of God and, and give you some, some dimensions and some, some

attributes about God's love. First of all, it's real simple.

His love is unconditional. There's no conditions to the

love of God. God loved us before He ever

created the world. We were already in the thought

of God when God created the world.

He already knew the plan. He already knew that that that

after He created man, man was going to fall.

You see? You see, salvation is not an

afterthought. Salvation, the cross and Jesus

coming is not God reacting to sin.

It was already in the foreknowledge of God that God

would have to redeem the creation that he created.

But God loves so much that he was willing to do it for us.

You see, we live. We we we live in a world where

love is mostly conditional. We like to think that we love.

Unconditionally. But most of the time we put, we

put limits and we put, we put. Boundaries on our love.

But God's love doesn't have boundaries.

God's love doesn't have restrictions.

There, there's no rules to the love of God.

God loved us before. God loved us, even though God's

love is unconditional. It's it's it's first John 410

that we were hearing is love not that we love God.

God loved us. You didn't love God. 1st and

then God says I'll save you. You didn't, you didn't come to

God first and and say Lord, if you'll do this and this, No, God

says I love you. I love you and your sin.

I loved you and your mass. I loved you and your failures.

I loved you and your wretchedness.

I loved you in the condition, the sinful fallen condition you

were in. I loved you even then.

See, God's love is unconditional.

You see, for some that's it's hard for them to grasp the love

of God because they, they, they've lived in environments,

they lived in atmospheres where, where if they didn't do good,

they weren't loved. You've got children that have

been raised, some of you may have been raised in a, in an

environment where you were punished and, and he and if you

didn't, if you didn't, do, you know, if you didn't follow all,

all the rules and you didn't, the love was conditional.

Not that punishment is conditional because we, we, we

discipline. That's part of a bridge.

But some were, it was beyond that.

They, they, they were, they were abused and neglected and

rejected. And so the only, the only

knowledge of love they have is from the environment in which

they were raised. And some of it wasn't a loving,

nurturing environment. So when when you tell some

people that God loves them, that they're, they're trying to

equate that love with human love.

But God's love doesn't equate in human.

Terms. God's love doesn't measure in

humans. God's love far super exceeds

human love. God loved us even though God

loved us in spite of ourselves, in spite of our our failures and

our mistakes. God's love is unconditional.

That's why we love the prodigal. The story of the prodigal son.

The prodigal thought, you know, my father's a good man.

If I, if I go back, he, he'll surely he'll accept me as a

slave, as a servant. I'll just serve him.

But what Jesus was was illustrating wasn't that he was

going to come back as a servant. Jesus told that story to, to, to

give us the picture of the love of the father.

No, I'm not going to just accept you as a servant.

You're going to be accepted as a son again because, because the

love of the Father, that's the Father's love for us.

His love is unconditional. Not only only is his love God's

love unconditional God. 'S love is undeserved.

There's nothing we can do to deserve the love of God, you.

Can't earn it. It's not performance based.

You see so many, so many other religions in the world.

There, there. It's it's all performance.

You have to do this you. Got to say this penance, some of

you, some of you may have been raised in the Catholic.

Church and you, you know that was part of your your religious

culture religious. Experience and you've got.

You've got to do this. You got to do that.

Jews, they got to keep, you know, they've got to keep the

law. You can't keep the law.

There's too many that that's that was the thing that was the

law had all of these things you had to do and everybody was

breaking the law except the scribes and the Pharisees who

thought they were above the law because they fulfilled.

But there was only one who kept the law, and it was Jesus,

because if he, he was the sinless, spotless 1, he would,

he never sinned so that he could be our Savior, so that he could

be the sacrifice. But you see, you see love, it's

his love is is. We can't.

We don't. We don't deserve it.

We, we don't deserve this love. There's nothing we can.

We can't. Buy it We.

Can't do penance for we can't we can't say there are a formula or

anything to deserve the love of God, God's love, Paul writes in

Romans 85. He says but, but God

demonstrated his love toward us while we were yet sinners.

Christ died for us. Think about it.

John 1513 says, says Jesus said this.

He said no greater. Love than this than a man lay

down his life for his friends. Paul also writes in.

In he writes about scarcely will a good.

Man, a righteous man, die for somebody.

They know, but who dies? For the ungodly only one Jesus

Paul. Writes in Ephesians 2, four and

five. But God, who is rich in mercy

because of his great love while we were dead in trespasses,

that's us before we came to Christ.

We're dead. In fact.

In fact, there's The Bible even uses terminology as.

Enemies. We were enemies.

To God we were. We were cast, separated from God

because God is holy and God is Justin and he's pure.

And so in our sin, we're enemies to God, but because of the blood

of Jesus, but because she's God loved us so much, he sent his

only begotten Son into this world, that whosoever would

would come to him, whosoever would repent of their sins,

whoever would would accept Jesus as their Savior, wouldn't

perish, but have everlasting life.

And so and so this this love. Is undeserved, but God.

Gave it God loved us so much. It's it's unconditional love.

It's it's, it's, it's undeserved love, but it's also it's

unrelenting love. That word, unrelenting means

undiminished. Undiminished in effort.

It doesn't fade. It doesn't weaken the love of

God over over all these thousands of years of human

history. God's love is not less today

because of time. God.

God doesn't age. He's ageless.

He's from beginning to end. He's from everlasting to

everlasting, and so is his love. It's from everlasting to

everlasting. It's unrelenting.

That means God has been pursuing.

He's a pursuing God pursues us. He's unrelenting and his passion

for souls. He's unrelenting and his passion

and his love for us, no matter what we've done, no matter how

many times we fail, no matter how many times we mess up, no

matter how many times we get up and we fall down.

His love is unrelenting. It's passionate.

And he pursues, and he pursues, and he pursues, and he rescues,

and he picks us up, and He cleans us all.

And He wants, which is us again and again and again.

Why? Because of His love for us.

Think about the woman in. John chapter 8.

It's an interesting story. A woman.

Who was caught in the Bible says in an act adultery?

It was a setup. Don't talk much about the men

who were watching and waiting to catch her in that act.

That's a whole another sermon. But they catch her.

They were waiting. They knew Jesus.

Was by, so they. Bring her to Jesus and throw her

down. And says.

What does the law? Says she should be stoned.

That's what the law says. What do you say, Jesus?

He said nothing, but he stooped down on the ground, no doubt

beside her, and begin to write something.

Oh, we always want to speculate what he wrote.

We preach our own sermons there, but we don't know what he wrote.

But whatever he wrote you without sin cast the first stone

and one by one they dropped their stones because the law

said she's to be stoned. But Jesus said, if you're

without sin, go ahead, throw that stone.

One by one they dropped their stones, you see, but that's

Jesus. And then he told the woman, get

up, go your way, sin no more, you've been forgiven.

You see, that's the passionate pursuit, John chapter 4, when he

goes to the well, Jews didn't go through through Samaria, but

Jesus said he had need to go to Samaria because he knew who was

going to be there at high noon. You don't draw water at high

noon. You went early in the morning or

you went in the evening, the early evening, the cool of the

day. You didn't go at 12:00 when it's

the hottest in the Mediterranean sun to draw water.

But this woman did because she went secretly.

She went because she had been living she had 6 husbands and

was 5 husbands and living with the 6th 1.

So she was an outcast that Jesus went because he needed to go.

He pursued and that woman end up leaving her pot going into the

city, becoming the first woman evangelist in the scriptures

going and tell everybody come see a man, come see a man that

knew everything about me, come see a man.

With joy. Shall you draw waters out of

the? Out of the living, living water,

the well of living water. He gave her, he gave her fresh

water, He gave her a new beginning.

He gave her New Hope. He gave her a new start.

He gave her salvation of joy in life and, and gave her a new

experience and she became a new creation.

You see, He's the pursuing God. He pursues us.

He's unrelenting. He won't give up pursuing if

you've got unsaved children. No, he's the unrelenting

pursuer. He won't give up.

He doesn't give. It doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter how, how bad, how far down they go.

He, his love is unrelenting. Aren't you glad He was

unrelenting when he pursued you and he came after you.

You didn't come to him on your own terms.

You didn't come to him on your own accord.

It was the Spirit of God that was pursuing you.

It was the Spirit of God that was convicting you.

It was the Spirit of God that was taking this and that and

this and that and this word and that word and scripture and and

all these things and people and was placing seeds in your heart

and drawing you to that place. When you said, Lord, I

surrender, I give my life to you.

I confess you as Lord and Savior.

That was because he was pursuing, suing you.

And even when he catches you, even when he when he come, when

you accept him, he doesn't stop. The love doesn't stop.

He doesn't stop pursuing. He keeps pursuing us day after

day, moment after moment in life.

Why? Because his love.

Is unrelenting. It's unconditional.

It's undeserved. It's unrelenting.

But it's also unfathomable. How do you?

Explain this. How do we explain?

How do we comprehend? This kind of love words can't

explain it words. So many.

I've, I've reread this just just recently, just, well, just in

the last day or two, is just preparing for this morning.

So many. I found that so many

theologians. Have wouldn't even take John 316

as a text and just preach on John 316 because how do you

preach John 316? How do you add anything to that?

You know, Tim Tebow, that was his you know, John 316 three

sixteen was on all of this, all of his gear, all of his stuff.

And they even even said that, you know, a lot of his numbers

even matched up to 316, a lot of the touchdown passes, whatever,

all all the all the things several years.

Added up to. To that number, because that

was, that was his. That's what he took is his motto

greatest, probably the one of the greatest scriptures in all

of the word of God for God. So.

Loved the world that he. Gave his only begotten.

How do you explain that? Or how do you?

Comprehend it His love that God would, would send his only

begotten Son. You see, it's unfathomable.

It's an unfathomable love. And so we try.

We try to put it in words. We, we, we try, we.

Songs have been written. We we, we, we sing songs and we

write about poems and. And and and things have been.

Written about the love of God, but how do you measure it?

How do you measure this? Love you can.

Better measure the ocean. Than the love of God you can.

Better measure the sands of the Seas.

Than to try to measure the love of God.

So Paul writes in Ephesians 3 in a prayer.

He was praying a prayer to the the the.

Christians in Ephesus. And he says, he says, I want you

to be able. To try to comprehend.

With all the Saints, what is the height and the depth?

And the width and the length. Of the love.

Of God that passes all knowledge pipe.

His love is so high, it comes from heaven.

His love is so long you can't outlast.

It it's forever and ever and ever.

It's so deep. It reaches.

Which are the lowest you've ever?

Been and they'll ever go and beyond.

And it's so wide. It goes around the world again

and again and over and over and over and over again.

The love of God. It's higher than any any of,

It's longer, it's wider. It's deeper than any of your.

Failures. No sin is too great.

No distance is too far. No mountain is too high, no

valley is too low. The the this love, this

unfathomable love of God, you can't measure it.

You can't calculate it. You can't comprehend it.

It stretches wider than you're seeing.

It runs longer than your lifetime.

It reaches higher and deeper than your pain, your brokenness,

your rebellion, your mistake. You can't measure it.

So what do you do with it? You just got to look at the

cross and say that's love, that a man would be willing his blood

wasn't spilled when you spill something.

That's an accident. I know the.

Songs have. Been written and and were we,

we've used the word broken and spilled out.

I understand, I understand what we mean.

But when we really think about it, when we if we really want to

be a theological, if we really want to be biblical, if we

really want to be correct, it wasn't spilled.

He didn't spill it. He gave his life.

He poured out his blood. He allowed.

He laid down his life. He gave his life.

They didn't take his life. Hear me.

The Romans didn't take his life. The Jews didn't take his life.

He gave up his life. He willingly laid down.

He knew he was going to have to die.

He came. The purpose of the Son of Man.

What's to seek and to save that which was lost?

It was in the Father's plan that Jesus would lay down his life,

just like Isaac lay down on the altar.

Abraham didn't make him lay down Isaac.

He was old enough. He crawled up on that altar.

He watched his father build the fire.

Abraham or Isaac watched his father place the logs under the

altar, and they had the altar. And he and Isaac got up on that

altar and he laid his own life on that altar.

And then he said, Father, I see the wood, I know the sacrifice,

but, but, but where? Where's the lamb?

And he said, God will provide a lamb.

God will provide A and he provided that lamb.

And that lamb was Jesus, who came to die for us.

Unfathomable love. I can't explain it, but oh I can

accept it. I just got it.

That's why he says believe if you'll just believe, if you'll

confess with your mouth and believe in your heart the Lord

Jesus, that God raised him from the dead.

It's when you're saved. You see, it's as simple as

believing if we'll just believe this love, that he loves us so

much. But oh, here's the last one.

I'll finish with this. It's unbreakable.

Love. It's a covenant.

God's love is a. Covenant But you see covenants

and vows, they don't mean a whole lot today 'cause people

break their vows, they stand in an altar and get married in the

name of God. But those vows don't mean a lot

to a lot of people. They break them.

People, you know used to buy cars and mules and horses and

cows and and bland by handshake because a man's word was his

bond or a handshake wasn't. It was an agreement.

Not today. You can't trust that today.

Promises are broken. Promises are made, but they're

broken. Vows are made, but they're

broken covenants. People go into contracts and

covenants, but they break them. But you see, God's love is

unbreakable. God's love is.

Unbreakable God's love is. Unbreakable.

You can't break that bond of God.

'S love. You can't break it.

Your sin can't break it. Your failure can't break it.

Your mistakes can't break it. No matter.

You can't break that love. God loves us now.

He, He loves us. He doesn't want us to stay, stay

in our mess and stay broken and stay bound and stay in sin.

He loves us enough to rescue us and to bring us out.

But you can't change the love of God.

You can't break the bonds of God's love because it's from

everlasting to everlasting. God's covenant can't be broken.

That's why Paul. Writes and I'm I'm done, he

says. Romans 8.

Who can separate us? From the love of God What can

separate us from God's love? Shall persecution, he said.

He names all these things. Famine, distress, nakedness,

peril, sore persecution, all these things, He said.

He said. We're more than conquerors, he

said. He said.

For I am persuaded. Here's that.

This is what he says. This is what I know.

Jesus loves me, this I know, I'm persuaded he loves me, this I

know, and that I can't be separated from the love of God.

He says neither, not not death, not life, not angels, not

principalities, not powers, nor things present, nor things to

come. You know what all that means?

That means that that means in a world full of deception and a

world full of lies and a world full of temptation and the devil

and and the onslaught of the enemy, there is nothing that can

separate you. There's no lie, there's no

deception, there's no evil, there's nothing that can

separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus

our Lord. God loves us.

He loves us. His love is an unbreakable love.

Somebody needs to hear this today.

That what you thought you did broke it.

You thought that your failure cancelled it.

You thought that your past disqualified you.

But you're the love of God can't be broken.

We live in a cancel culture. You can't cancel the love of

God. You can't cancel it.

You can't erase the love of God. It's the strongest force in the

universe. The ocean is powerful, it's

mighty. There's nuclear power, there's

there's hydropower, there's electric power.

There are strong forces in this world and in this universe that

are natural forces. But there is nothing that is

compared to the power of the love of God.

And the love that rescues you is the same love that'll hold you,

and it's the same love that'll keep you.

It's the same love that'll see you through.

It's the same love that gets you saved.

But it's the same love that'll take you all the way to the

pearly gates of heaven. And you'll meet the one who died

for you and gave his life for you and says, well done my good

and faithful child. Enter in.

That's the love of God that'll take you all the way home.

It won't just take you part of the way.

His love will take you all the way if you'll embrace His love

and accept His love. Hallelujah.

Hallelujah. Can we just get a little excited

about the love of God today? Hallelujah.
