  1. We uh, we're uh, we're moving into a brand new

  2. series this uh, this Sunday called House Money. I want

  3. to talk to you about money. Uh, but don't listen.

  4. Some of you just I can see your face just

  5. kind of shrivel up a little bit. Not talking about giving.

  6. Uh we're talking about money. Come on, somebody not asking

  7. you to give any more of it. We took up

  8. the offering before I talked about money, so that lets

  9. you know. I'm not trying to beat it out of you. Amen. Uh.

  10. But uh, but there is a relationship that we all

  11. have with money that uh, that we struggle with, that

  12. that most people struggle with because it is a difficult relationship.

  13. Doing scripture, we read, uh the Great commandment love the

  14. Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.

  15. And the second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself.

  16. But I want to look just uh just for a

  17. second at that the first part, love the Lord your

  18. God with all your heart, with all your mind, with

  19. all your soul, with all your strength, Love the Lord

  20. your God with all And I did some study, and

  21. I did a some research on that that word all

  22. you know, that's a that's that's a crazy little word

  23. all it means a lot. And when I looked up

  24. that that word all in the original language, do you

  25. know what it means? All? It means all it means

  26. It means with everything, love the Lord your God, with

  27. everything that's in you. There's not room. Uh, there's not

  28. room for for slipping or sliding. It just simply means, hey,

  29. I want to be the very object of your affection

  30. and your life. That Jesus wants you to be in

  31. love with him with a passionate, reckless abandon And I

  32. don't think that's asking too much after what He's done

  33. for us. So when we take that into context and

  34. we understand that God's desire is for us to love

  35. him with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.

  36. And then we look at relations at our relationship with money,

  37. and what Scripture says about money. There are some warnings

  38. that he puts in place. There are some warnings that

  39. he puts in place because it's easy for money to

  40. slide over into the place of God in people's lives. Amen,

  41. I mean, how many of you have don't raise your hand,

  42. how many of you have ever asked yourself or you've

  43. gotten to this place in life, I don't know how

  44. I'm going to make it because I don't have enough money.

  45. Don't don't raise your hand. See the moment we say,

  46. I don't know how I'm going to make it because

  47. I don't have enough money. We've just allowed money to

  48. slide over into God's spot because God is our provider.

  49. God is able to do things for us that money

  50. can't do. Amen. God's able. God's able to provide for

  51. us in ways that the hornal nature of money can't provide.

  52. So when we talk about those things, it's important that

  53. we realize and understand our relationship with money. In one

  54. Timothy chapter six, verse ten, it says, for the love

  55. of money is a root of all kinds of evil,

  56. for which some have strayed from the faith and their

  57. greediness and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. For the

  58. love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

  59. But you know I would also slide in there the

  60. love of anything besides God. Amen. But money has a

  61. particular place because of its because of its ability to

  62. do things. And we have to understand relationship and relationship

  63. with money in order to keep those things properly aligned.

  64. We have three different relationships, or money holds three different

  65. at places, the potential to have three different places in

  66. our lives. The first thing, the first relationship with money

  67. is the relationship of sower and seed Amen. That is,

  68. money plays the role of seed in our lives. And

  69. we talk about that a lot from a spiritual perspective.

  70. In other words, we talk about sewing into the offering.

  71. We talk about sowing into ministry, and that money is

  72. seed sowing into the Kingdom of God. But it goes

  73. beyond just that spiritual aspect. Money has power as a seed.

  74. Beyond the spiritual aspect. It's not just that we sew money,

  75. come on, somebody into the kingdom, but we can also

  76. sew money into different areas so that that money works

  77. for us. You know, Pastor Shame, where's Pastor Shane up there?

  78. Not paying attention? I see him now, Pastor Shane, he

  79. just had just had a baby boy. Come on, somebody,

  80. I mean, listen, he may struggle, he may struggle doing

  81. some things, but he can have babies. I mean, you know,

  82. there's just he can just thank you for growing the church,

  83. my brother. Uh, but he just had a baby boy.

  84. And you know, here here's the power of understanding our

  85. relationship with money as seed that let's just say that

  86. that Pastor Shane sold all his gaming gear. He's not

  87. going to but let's just say he sold all his

  88. gaming computer and all that stuff. And let's say he,

  89. you know, he was able to come up with three

  90. thousand dollars and he took that three thousand dollars and

  91. he invested or he planted that three thousand dollars, and

  92. he put it in a place where you know, it

  93. just averaged twelve percent per year, and he never put

  94. anything else in it. He put it in there for

  95. his Uh, I'm not even gonna call the baby's name.

  96. I think there's some debate about what they're actually going

  97. to call the baby, so I'm not. I'm calling him

  98. Trey because he's the third kid, and that's just easy,

  99. and I like to give kids names that nobody else

  100. calls them. So for me, he's Trey. And he also

  101. has three names, so that's also why I'm calling him Trey.

  102. So that's he. Trey Clinton is who he will ever

  103. forever be. From this pulpit, Amen, and he plants that

  104. three thousand dollars in an account for trey. He doesn't

  105. put anything else with it, and in fifty years, at

  106. twelve percent interest, that baby's gonna have just over eight

  107. hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Because seed grows. Seed grows.

  108. That's that's what a seed does. It can't do anything else.

  109. It just grows. That's that's its only purpose is to

  110. grow into something that's a pretty significant power. And when

  111. we realize that if we have the relationship with money

  112. that it is seed meant to work for us, then

  113. we can have a wholesome relationship with money that doesn't

  114. cross over into the God realm, that it doesn't cross

  115. over into dependency. Because what I would do if I

  116. was shame is I wouldn't even tell him that he

  117. had that money. I wouldn't even tell him it was there.

  118. I would just let it be a surprise. Amen. I

  119. wish when I turned fifty, my daddy said, Hey, got

  120. your birthday present eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Listen,

  121. that'd be a nice birthday. Amen. But see, we we

  122. have this polluted, perverted relationship with money where we think

  123. that everything is dependent on the amount that's in our

  124. hands right now, and we think that it is a

  125. right now organism, but money is not a right now organism.

  126. If we interact with money like the only value of

  127. money is the value that it has today, then we

  128. miss the importance of treating it as a seed. And

  129. the relationship of money as a seed becomes beneficial to

  130. the believer because God has the ability and the promise

  131. to multiply on the seed level. He supplies seed to

  132. the sower, and he multiplies the seed so on. So

  133. when we have that proper understanding of money at level

  134. number one, that money is seed. I just I'm going

  135. to ask a strange question here. How many of you

  136. have ever looked in the garden as you were planting something,

  137. and let's just say corn, and you looked at a

  138. current corn and you just fell madly in love with

  139. a colonel la corn. I hope nobody raises their hand.

  140. We will be making an altar call later if you do.

  141. But because that seeds don't have that power, seeds doesn't

  142. that they don't have that relational power back to us,

  143. all a seed can do is work for us. All

  144. a seed can do is it's intended purpose, and that

  145. is to grow. And when we understand money as a seed.

  146. Then we can have a proper perspective, and then we

  147. can see money as a tool for wealth rather than

  148. as a tool for survival. See God never intended money

  149. to be as a tool for survival. Our dependence upon

  150. Him is a means of our survival. Money was always

  151. meant to be a tool of wealth so that we

  152. can expand and give and grow the kingdom. The second

  153. way is that it's an instrument. You know. The second

  154. relationship we have is money with money as an instrument. So, uh, Alan,

  155. if you've got a bottle of water, but yeah, you

  156. go get me a bottle of water, thank you. I

  157. know I have a bottle of water sitting on my pulpit,

  158. So I'm not not that bad yet. I know I

  159. have a bottle of water on my pulpit. Uh but uh,

  160. but but money can I also serve as an instrument,

  161. an instrument of exchange, an instrument of of movement. But

  162. in and of itself, it has no power. Money possesses

  163. no innate ability to do anything. It's just there. As

  164. a matter of fact, our money here in the United

  165. States of America. The only basis of value for this

  166. is the value that you give it. In other words,

  167. this money doesn't need it's not even it's not even

  168. backed by anything of value other than the value we

  169. choose to give it. It's based on kind of just

  170. what people think about our country, because there is no

  171. gold to back this money anymore. Right, thank you, buddy.

  172. I appreciate that. Amen. Just take it. And we exchange

  173. money for things. It's just a means of exchange. It's

  174. an instrument we use to get something that we don't have.

  175. So I go to the grocery store. If I don't

  176. grow my own food, I go to the grocery store.

  177. I swipe my debit card. Hopefully you swipe your debit

  178. card and not your credit card. Won everybody look at

  179. me for just a second. If when you go to

  180. the grocery store, if you're swiping your credit card. Now,

  181. if you use your credit card like a debit card

  182. and you pay it off, that there's so many ways

  183. you can go at But listen, if you're financing your groceries,

  184. I really need you to schedule a meeting with me,

  185. and we need to talk. Uh. And I don't mean

  186. that in a funny way, but we need to talk

  187. about how you can get back on top of your

  188. finances because you know you you shouldn't be financing canned

  189. biscuits because that is uh that that that is a

  190. commodity that will be gone and you can't pay interest

  191. on something that's gonna be gone by Tuesday. That's that

  192. that that's an improper relationship with money. Amen. Now I

  193. understand sometimes we get in a hole, and a lot

  194. of times we get in a hole is because we

  195. don't understand what we're talking about today, our relationship with money,

  196. because the enemy wants to use money as a tool

  197. to beat you. But if you understand that it's seed

  198. that will lead towards wealth, or it's an instrument that

  199. will lead you towards just simply meeting the things that

  200. you want today, the things that are going to get

  201. you through life today. Only an instrument with no innate

  202. power in and of itself. Because the reality is, you

  203. know Alan would have gave well, it's I don't even

  204. know where he got this bottle of water. I'm sure

  205. Alan didn't buy this bottle of water. So I mean

  206. he would have handed me this bottle of water without

  207. any money exchanged. It was just a visual illustration. But

  208. the reality is is that most of the things we

  209. exchange money for we could exchange other things for as well. Amen.

  210. I mean, I'm sure if I needed to eat, I

  211. could call in and say, Hey, Len, I want to

  212. come over to your store and I'm going to sweep

  213. and clean in exchange for some fresh produce. That's the reality.

  214. As a matter of fact, that's the way society used

  215. to work, right, It's called the barter system. Money wasn't

  216. even part of it. I have a talent, I have

  217. a gift, and I share that gift or talent with

  218. you in exchange for your gift and your talent. And

  219. that's the way society operated, and it can still operate

  220. that way. I trade things for things all the time.

  221. I trade. I trade different different things for things that

  222. I want or need on a regular basis. And that's

  223. simply the way things work. It's just a modem of exchange.

  224. That's all money is. It's a tool, an instrument that

  225. allows me to have something I don't have. But the

  226. third relationship with money is the one that most people,

  227. is especially here in our country, find themselves in. And

  228. that's money and the relationship as master. It's not a seed,

  229. it's not an instrument. It's a master. And most of

  230. us find ourselves allowing something that has no power and

  231. no ability other than to grow. We allow that thing

  232. to become our master. And Scripture is pretty clear about that.

  233. That's what That's what the Bible says. In Proverbs chapter

  234. twenty two, verse seven, it says, just as the rich

  235. rule the poor, so the borrower is serve it to

  236. the lender. In Matthew chapter six, verse twenty four, it says,

  237. no one can serve two masters, for either he will

  238. hate the one and love the other, or else he

  239. will be loyal to the one and despise the other.

  240. You cannot serve God and mammon. Let me read it

  241. to you out of the New Living Translation. It says

  242. it this way, no one can serve two masters, for

  243. you'll hate one and love the other. You'll be devoted

  244. to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God

  245. and be enslaved to money. See, Mammon was the pagan

  246. representative of the monetary system of the day in which

  247. Scripture was written. When people said mammon, they realized that

  248. it was that symbol of the financial system of the day,

  249. and the Bible says, you can't be in love with

  250. money and also be in love with Jesus because you

  251. can only have one master. You can only have one

  252. person that's in control over you. Because the enemy also

  253. understands the power of the seed. The enemy understands that

  254. if he can bring the burden of money on you,

  255. that he can enslave you with indebtedness. Just like that,

  256. Just like that money that Pastor Shane could invest in

  257. baby Clainton's life and it be a means to build wealth.

  258. He could also borrow money right now in order to

  259. give baby Clanton things, and baby Clainton can grow up

  260. a slave to debt the rest of his life because

  261. indebtedness brings pressure and weight that we can't that we

  262. can't climb out from under. Indebtedness and a relationship with

  263. money as money being our master immediately elevates money into

  264. the place of God in our lives. And God is

  265. a jealous god and wants to share his glory with

  266. no one. God's desire is for us to have a

  267. proper understanding of his place and money's play. And if

  268. you always want more of one, you can operate with

  269. less of the other. That is so tweetable. Let me

  270. say it again. If your desire is for more of

  271. one or the other, you have the ability to live

  272. with less of the other. If your desire is to

  273. always just have more, more, more, more money, and you

  274. are always chasing money, and you have a love affair

  275. with money and a passion for money, and you become

  276. enslaved to it and it becomes your master, then you're

  277. going to live with less of God in your life.

  278. It's just a simple fact that now I'm not Now listen,

  279. I'm not saying if your house is financed, you don't

  280. love Jesus. That's not what I'm saying. So don't live

  281. here and think I'm saying something I'm not saying. As

  282. a matter of fact, there is good debt in our lives,

  283. not all. There is debt that is grown. That that

  284. that the asset is growing, that's good debt. My home

  285. is increasing in value, it's good debt. When I sell

  286. my home it's worth more than what I paid for it.

  287. It's worth more than all of those things. That's not

  288. really debt, right, that's seed planning for something that's increasing

  289. in value. But my car, when I drive it off

  290. the lot, I'm upside down when it when it goes

  291. when it leaves Hardy Chevrolets parking lot, and it's Brown's

  292. Bridge Road or Jesse Jewel or whatever it's called right there.

  293. I don't know, it's the same road, uh, whatever it's

  294. called right there. When I leave that parking lot, I

  295. drive out not a new car owner, but a slave.

  296. And now when I lose my job, the pressure is

  297. to find another one so that I can make my

  298. car payment. And then the pressure to make the car

  299. payment leads me into stress and worry, both of which

  300. are sin. When money is your master, it drives the

  301. sin engine in your life, and it drives the sin

  302. engine in your life, which is normalized in our culture.

  303. Let me say that again, it drives the engine of sin,

  304. which has been normalized in our culture. Do you realize

  305. that there are some things that the Bible calls sin

  306. that we think are completely okay in culture because everybody

  307. has it to see. Fear is the enemy of faith. Sin,

  308. anything contrary to the Word of God is sin. Worry, anger,

  309. all of those things are sin. But we've normalized those

  310. things so we don't worry about those things in our lives.

  311. As a matter of fact, instead of bringing those things

  312. to the Lord or correcting the root cause of those

  313. things like we do with other sin in our life, Amen,

  314. or that we talk about other people needing to correct

  315. in their lives, we just buy a book from somebody

  316. that has nothing to do with Jesus and we try

  317. to just get a little self help so that we

  318. can get over the symptom. But the root causes an

  319. improper relationship with money, and we've allowed money to be

  320. our master. Debt breaks us at the spirit level because

  321. it takes the place of God. And when we have

  322. allowed something to take the place of God in our lives,

  323. it is a spiritual and physical whole that we must

  324. dig out of as fast and passionately as we can,

  325. because our relationship with Him is dependent on us loving

  326. Him with all of our heart, with all of our mind,

  327. with all of our soul. Money is a tool to

  328. be used for good or bad, but it is never

  329. to be our lover and in the place of relationship

  330. that we exalt God or other people to I just

  331. want to ask you, does it not that's my billfold? Oh,

  332. here's another good one. Is It just sounds weird for

  333. me to stand here and say that I have fallen

  334. in love with my phone. That just doesn't make sense.

  335. Or to say, oh, I have a spatula at home

  336. and I just love it. I want to marry it.

  337. I want I love my spatula. It is the perfect

  338. It's got the perfect angle. It just scoops the eggs

  339. perfectly and flips them over. No eggs taste as good

  340. as the eggs I cook with that spatula. I'm in

  341. love with my spatula. Y'all are laughing right, because it's

  342. an in itemate object, just like money need. But yet

  343. the Bible warns us not to fall in love with

  344. money because he knows the propensity of mankind to do it.

  345. So as ridiculous as it sounds, we still have this

  346. love affair with money that holds us hostage and imprisons

  347. us so that we can't have an active, thriving relationship

  348. with Jesus. I don't want to start January preaching things

  349. like this. I wanted to preach purpose and destiny and

  350. hope and excitement, and but we can't get there. Until

  351. we get here, I have a Bible College Professor, Clay,

  352. you guys can come and get ready. I have a

  353. Bible College professor that I hold in great in great esteem,

  354. and uh doctor, baby, and uh doctor. He told us

  355. in preaching class, he said, listen, y'all can preach anything

  356. you want to preach. You can preach anything you want

  357. to preach. People gonna shout you down, People are gonna

  358. be excited. You're just gonna have people in your church

  359. that love for you to You can preach anything as

  360. long as you stay out of their bedroom, and as

  361. long as you stay out of their billfol if you

  362. preach about the bedroom, you preach about the billfol going,

  363. they're going to replace you. That's what he told us.

  364. He said, So listen, if the Lord puts that on

  365. your heart, get your resume updated, because they're not gonna

  366. put up with that. Well, you know what, I was

  367. looking for a job when I found this one. And

  368. I believe that God's desire it's for us to get

  369. our lives in order so that we can be the

  370. very best picture of ourselves for Him and for humanity.

  371. I believe that today the hard things that we have

  372. to address in our lives are not those invisible spiritual things,

  373. but the things that we can open our bank app

  374. and look at things that we can open those credit

  375. card apps and look at. We can walk into the

  376. parking lot and look at those things. We can look

  377. back to last night while we were laying in bed,

  378. and those worries that our mind went to. See this

  379. is a very visible issue that we wrestle with. And

  380. young people save until you can buy it with cash.

  381. Save until you can buy it with cash, or learn

  382. a skill and be so good at it, and people

  383. will just give you things. Be the very best consultant

  384. about whatever it is. People will line up to pay

  385. you for the gifts and the talents that God has

  386. put on the inside. I feel this for just a second.

  387. Let me just let me just stop. We live right

  388. now in the greatest time ever on the face of

  389. the planet. Right now is the greatest time because we

  390. live closer to Jesus coming back. But also we live

  391. in a day and age where people are desperate for knowledge.

  392. People will pay you for what you know, not just

  393. what you can do. Young people learn something so effectively

  394. that people will pay you for your knowledge. That people

  395. will pay you for your expertise and market your knowledge.

  396. And God will use it because it is spiritually based

  397. and He will turn the world upside down and build

  398. wealth in you so that you can fund the endeavors

  399. to reach the world in the Kingdom of God. God

  400. is looking for people that will step outside the ordinary

  401. and become distribution centers for wealth and the Kingdom of God.

  402. And you might as well be them. Might as well

  403. be you, Isaac, might as well be you. I mean

  404. everybody as well be you. Corey, I mean Riggie Marlowe.
