  1. Amen. Amen.

  2. If you got a Bible, go to Second Timothy chapter two.

  3. We're gonna continue in our series the Great House. Second

  4. Timothy chapter two. We're gonna start in verse twenty again.

  5. Today.

  6. We're gonna read this again, you know, for the next

  7. few weeks. Second Timothy, chapter two, Verse twenty.

  8. Let's start.

  9. But in a great house, they're not only vessels of

  10. gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some

  11. for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses

  12. himself from the latter, he'll be a vessel for honor,

  13. sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

  14. Flee also youthful nus.

  15. But pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call

  16. on the Lord out of a pure heart. But avoid

  17. foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. Don't worry,

  18. we're gonna get We're gonna get to that one soon.

  19. We're gonna we're gonna get to that scripture soon. H

  20. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but

  21. be gentle to all, able to teach, patient and humility,

  22. correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will

  23. grant them repentance so that they may know the truth

  24. verse twenty.

  25. Six, and that they may come to.

  26. Their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having

  27. been taken captive by him to do his will. Let's pray, Father,

  28. we thank you for your word. It's the only change

  29. agent we have on the face of this planet. And

  30. I pray right now that it takes root deep at

  31. the fabric of our being. And Lord, that it brings

  32. a harvest of life that expands through every area of

  33. our person. Father, that you would allow us to be

  34. transformed today to be more like you when we leave

  35. this place in Jesus' name, Amen, Verse twenty things. Again

  36. it says, and that they may come to their senses

  37. and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken

  38. captive by him to do his will. You know, I

  39. don't think that in this room today anybody wants to

  40. willfully choose to do.

  41. The work of the enemy. I believe that you.

  42. I mean, this is probably not the place you would

  43. have got up and come to on Sunday morning. Amen,

  44. if you were set out today to do the work

  45. of the enemy that you wanted to serve the devil,

  46. you would have went somewhere else today, amen, Or you'd

  47. have probably slept in this morning and rested up. I

  48. don't know what. I don't serve the devil, so I

  49. don't know what people do to serve the devil. But

  50. I don't think you would have made the choice that

  51. you made this morning. But the reality is that he

  52. uses some very some very strong language here in this

  53. passage of scripture. He says, Hey, people just need to

  54. come to their senses. You just need to come to

  55. your senses. We think that it's this supernatural thing that

  56. we need to plead to the Lord for these certain

  57. deep supernatural gifts that we may be able to avoid

  58. the enemy. But listen, it's just common sense. Come on,

  59. there's just some common sense to avoiding the work of

  60. the enemy. Because the enemy has been doing the same

  61. thing he does since the very beginning. Let me say

  62. that again, he's been doing the very same thing that

  63. he does since the beginning. He really doesn't attack humanity

  64. in any other way.

  65. Than he started that same day with Eve.

  66. He appeals to the very same nature, to the very

  67. same things, and he has a very limited strategy. Let's

  68. go to Genesis chapter three, and I want to I

  69. want to just kind of lay out for you the strategy.

  70. Of the enemy.

  71. I want to talk to you, and I want to

  72. show you a weakness that a lot of us as

  73. believers have. Genesis chapter three, starting in verse one, it says,

  74. now the serpent that's talking about the devil. Now the

  75. serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field

  76. which the Lord God had made.

  77. And he said to the woman, came out right there.

  78. I'm just gonna be honest with you.

  79. It's pretty much common sense to me that if I'm

  80. walking through the woods and a snake starts talking to me,

  81. he don't even have to talk. If I see him,

  82. I'm I'm probably leaving right. But if he starts talking

  83. to me, I'm not gonna hang around to see what

  84. he says. If you have an experience like that, it's

  85. not common sense to stick around and see what happens next.

  86. That's how every horror movie begins. Nothing supernatural about knowing

  87. something is up, something's going on, something bad is happening.

  88. Let's keep reading.

  89. And he said to the woman, has God indeed said

  90. you shall not eat of every tree of the garden.

  91. Now this is the first conversation we have recorded. But yeah,

  92. he already knew what God said. Do you know that

  93. the enemy knows God's word, He knows what God says,

  94. He knows God's intentions, and he mixes enough truth in

  95. with his deception that it feels right.

  96. He knew that God.

  97. Had told them not to eat from the tree, and

  98. he starts the conversation and he says, hey, did God

  99. really say?

  100. Are you sure that's what God said?

  101. And he plants just that little bit, that little seed

  102. of doubt. Verse two, and the woman said to the serpent,

  103. we may not eat of We may not eat the

  104. fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the free.

  105. But of the fruit of the tree which is in

  106. the midst of the garden.

  107. God has said, you.

  108. Shall not eat, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.

  109. For God knows that in the day you eat it,

  110. your eyes will be open, and you'll be like God, knowing.

  111. Good and evil. So when the woman saw.

  112. That the tree was good for food, that it was

  113. pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make

  114. one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She

  115. also gave to her husband with her and he ate.

  116. The enemy said, hey, are you did God really say

  117. you couldn't eat everything? And she's like, yeah, yeah. Now

  118. remember just the little bit of doubt. And this is

  119. her response. She says, hey, yeah, he said that.

  120. We couldn't eat the tree, the fruit from the tree

  121. in the midst of the gardens.

  122. That's what he said, she said. And we can't even

  123. touch it. We can't eat it, we can't even touch it.

  124. But did you know that that's not what God said. See,

  125. the enemy brings a little bit of doubt, and Eve

  126. thought she had to defend God.

  127. So she had to add.

  128. Just a little bit to what God said in order

  129. to defend God and keep herself safe. Let's look and

  130. see what God really said. In Genesis chapter two, verse fifteen,

  131. it says, then the Lord God took the man put

  132. him in the garden of Eden to tend and to

  133. keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying,

  134. of every tree of the garden you may freely eat,

  135. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and

  136. evil you shall not eat, for in the day that

  137. you eat of it, you shall surely die. And the

  138. Lord God said, it's not good that man should be alone.

  139. I'll make him a helper comparable to him. God never

  140. said don't touch the fruit. He never said don't touch

  141. the fruit in the center of the garden. Eve added

  142. that on her own. And the moment we start adding

  143. things to God's word, come on, somebody, it diminishes the

  144. power of God's word. The moment we bring our own

  145. thoughts and our own insights and our own strength to

  146. try to prop up God, we step in the place

  147. of God. Because God doesn't.

  148. Need to be propped up.

  149. The enemy brought doubt, and Eve added to God's word,

  150. and that is where the unraveling began. Because God's word

  151. is enough to stay and by itself. See, if we're

  152. really going to combat the enemy, if we're really going

  153. to push back against the attacks of the enemy, the

  154. first thing we have to know is God's word. Now,

  155. let me give you a little bit of insight here. Also,

  156. when God told them they couldn't eat of the of

  157. the fruit in the middle of the garden, Eve was

  158. not yet created. He spoke that to Adam before Eve

  159. was created. So God spoke to Adam, and then Adam

  160. spoke to Eve. If we really want to know God's word,

  161. if you really want to know God's word, raise your hand.

  162. If you really want to know God's word, pretty much everybody, Yeah,

  163. I mean that. Then you can't just rely on me

  164. to tell it to you. As a matter of fact,

  165. it's not even really my purpose to bring spiritual enlightenment

  166. to you. It's my job to preach. My job is

  167. to preach the truth. But it's your job to grow spiritually.

  168. And if you want to know God's word, you can't

  169. just trust somebody saying it from a pulpit, or somebody

  170. saying it behind a television camera, or especially somebody saying

  171. it on YouTube.

  172. Amen.

  173. If you want to do something, if you if you

  174. feel like you want to do something and you're looking

  175. for justification and you go to Google and you say,

  176. is it okay for me too? That's not the proper

  177. way to Bible study. That's not the way you do it.

  178. You get along with God and his word, and you

  179. keep a personal devotion time and a quiet time, and

  180. you allow God to speak to you through his word,

  181. and the Holy Spirit brings it into our spirit and

  182. mixes it with who we are, and it becomes part

  183. of us. The problem that even countered was that she

  184. had the word of Adam, not the word of God

  185. in her heart, and she suddenly becomes confused when a

  186. little bit of doubt comes, and she begins to make

  187. up things and add things to God's word. If we

  188. really want to build a foundation and build a great house,

  189. we must build that foundation on the unchanging word of God.

  190. The only absolute truth we have is God's word. It

  191. never changes, it never airs, it's always right, and it's

  192. always on time.

  193. And that is the foundation of our great house. So

  194. once once Eve changed God's.

  195. Word and the enemy knew that she didn't have a

  196. real good, working knowledge of what God's word said, That's

  197. when he began to go down the path that he

  198. has brought every human since this point. He says, oh,

  199. look at the tree, it's good for food. He attacks

  200. those primal desires that were on the inside of Eve,

  201. those things that are wired on the inside of every

  202. single one of us. You know, there are certain things,

  203. there are certain primal urges and desires that are common

  204. to all humanity. It's just the basic physiology of who

  205. we are. None of us want to be hungry.

  206. Amen. If you don't believe me, get around somebody that

  207. has missed a meal.

  208. If somebody misses a meal, they get they I mean,

  209. they get tense, they get snappy, they get angry. The

  210. worst person you want to be around when.

  211. A is going on is because I'm a bear.

  212. I'm telling you now, you can tell I don't miss

  213. a whole lot of meals. I modified some of my meals,

  214. but I don't miss a lot of meals. And you know,

  215. and as a result, when I do miss those meals,

  216. my body doesn't respond well.

  217. And the first thing the enemy.

  218. Does, he says, look at it, look at it. It's

  219. going to taste good. When the enemy attacks you, the

  220. first area of attack is going to be in the

  221. area of those common primal urges and desires that we

  222. all have in common, every single one of us. And

  223. that's layer one. And the reality is, because most of

  224. us fall to the lust of the flesh that we

  225. talked about last week, that's step one is as far

  226. as he ever has to go. But he has a

  227. layered plan that goes a little bit deeper. So if

  228. we can push back against that first attack of the flesh,

  229. that first thing that he puts in front of us,

  230. then he goes to the second one, where we all

  231. struggle with She saw that it was pleasant to the irony.

  232. She said, now that apple is good for food, and oh.

  233. My gosh, look how shiny and red and curvy it is.

  234. Do you know that almost.

  235. One hundred percent of attraction is visual, that even food,

  236. It has been proven through scientific.

  237. Study that food that looks good, we think it tastes better.

  238. And the enemy appeals to our eyes the things we

  239. see because it's the only domain in which he can live,

  240. because what where we should be living and where we

  241. should be focusing is in the invisible.

  242. But that constant struggle we have with the flesh.

  243. Causes us to look at the visible more often than

  244. the invisible. And he attacked what she saw and she said, listen,

  245. that's that's that's a good looking apple.

  246. She said, yeah, she said, I just got my apple.

  247. I mean it was perfectly designed for me. You know,

  248. you go through scripture and you see the visual attacks

  249. that the enemy persists. We see David in Bathsheba that

  250. he saw that she was beautiful. We go even further

  251. and we look at Samson and Delilah. It says Delilah

  252. was beautiful. See, it's those things of beauty that derail us.

  253. And cause us to not use our senses because attraction,

  254. that primal attraction, will will dismantle all of the tring

  255. and all of the learning, and all.

  256. Of the discipline that we have in our lives.

  257. How many marriages, how many families have unraveled with someone

  258. sitting behind the keyboard of a computer in the middle

  259. of the night, looking at images on a screen that

  260. they can't touch, that they can't feel, that they can't

  261. experience any other way than visual, because the visual appeal

  262. has power. So what we must learn to do is

  263. that we must learn to have attraction the way the

  264. Lord teaches attraction, and that is in the heart and

  265. not through the eyes. Attraction must come from our hearts

  266. and not from the visual senses, because the enemy is

  267. good at building and designing things that will cause our

  268. flesh to fall one hundred percent of the time. And

  269. when we feel that urge, we must create in ourselves

  270. a spiritual reflex that reverts back to the heart and

  271. not to the flesh. If we can revert back to

  272. our even our mind, our will, and our emotions, if

  273. we can just come to our senses and think about

  274. it for a minute, think about what it will cost

  275. you think about the repercussions. You know, I used to

  276. coach with a guy and he used to say, listen,

  277. you can choose.

  278. The choice you make.

  279. You can choose your decisions, but you don't get to

  280. choose the repercussion. And I used to think that was

  281. the wisest thing you ever said. I thought, I mean,

  282. I thought, wow, that makes a lot of sense. Other

  283. things don't make sense that you say, but that makes

  284. a lot of sense. And he would reinforce that every

  285. single practice to these girls, and hey, listen, you get

  286. to decide, you get to choose your choice, but you

  287. don't get to choose the repercussion. You can choose not

  288. to come to practice, but you don't get to choose

  289. whether you run or not. You get to choose whether

  290. you swing at that pitch, but you don't get to

  291. choose whether he calls it.

  292. A strike or not.

  293. You get to choose whether you give in to the

  294. attraction of the eye, but you don't get to choose

  295. what it costs you. You don't get to choose the repercussions.

  296. And the enemy exploits our areas of weakness. And then

  297. he said, oh, yeah, but not only is it good

  298. for food. Not only is it pretty, not only does.

  299. It look good, but it's gonna make you wise.

  300. I guarantee you that if I brought in a big

  301. bottle of capsules and I put them here and I said, listen,

  302. I have scientifically studied and I have patented this pill,

  303. and this pill in this bottle, if you take it,

  304. it's going to make you why it is, it's going

  305. to unlock the secrets of the universe. You just take

  306. one every morning. I'm running a discount. You can get

  307. two bottles for the price of one. That there's people

  308. here that would buy my bottles of wisdom pills, because

  309. we all want wisdom without the sacrifice. See, wisdom is

  310. the application of knowledge. And we spend our lives learning,

  311. but we don't always spend our lives putting into practice

  312. what we learned, because that's the hard work. That's where

  313. we roll up our sleeves and we have to get

  314. a little bit dirty, because to put those things into

  315. practice and to trust God at what he says and

  316. actually step out there in faith and see if it works.

  317. Come on, somebody to learn those hard life lessons that

  318. our parents used to tell us about. But we don't

  319. really believe them until we learn them. See, wisdom is

  320. gained through doing. Wisdom is gained through the lessons we

  321. learn when things don't go right. Wisdom is what we

  322. learn when we see a situation and a circumstance, and

  323. everything in our flesh says go, but the things in

  324. our spirits say stay away.

  325. And he promised her wisdom that she would be like God.

  326. Now isn't that the purpose of discipleship. Don't we stand

  327. up here every week and say our goal is to

  328. be a little more like God?

  329. And she mixed. He mixed enough of the truth.

  330. And he said, hey, once you eat this fruit, it's

  331. gonna make you wise and you're going to be like God.

  332. But being wise is not being like God.

  333. Just shortcutting and knowing the experience of evil doesn't make

  334. us like God. Choosing holiness through the application of wisdom

  335. is what makes us like God. Holiness leads us to transformation.

  336. But he said, listen, you're just gonna know right from wrong.

  337. And she was like, I'm sold. I'll take two apples please.

  338. You know I believe at that point, if the enemy said,

  339. you know, this is gonna cost you everything, she was

  340. already sold.

  341. This is gonna change everything sold.

  342. You know, I have a conversation with every single person

  343. that that that comes into a paid staff position, or

  344. really even a captain's position. I like to have these

  345. conversations and I look and I say, hey, I want

  346. you to understand that that this is going to change

  347. the relationship that we have, that when you move from

  348. there to there, it changes.

  349. And I'm more boss than I am pastor. But people just.

  350. See that, oh, now I'm going to get paid to

  351. be a Christian.

  352. I'm gonna get if they only knew right, pastor if

  353. they only knew i'man Now I'm gonna get paid. I'm

  354. all I'm gonna have.

  355. To do is show up to the church and pray

  356. all day. And I try to explain that it changes

  357. the relationship. And some people can't live through the.

  358. Change of that relationship.

  359. Some people can't make it through those hard conversations that

  360. have to be had, those times where you don't live

  361. up to the expectation of the job, not as a believer,

  362. but the job, and the enemy will offer you something

  363. and then tell you it's going to be different, and

  364. you choose it anyway because you ignore the different for

  365. the new.

  366. Aneve found herself in this place, and she.

  367. Bit into that forbidden fruit. Clay, you guys can come

  368. and get ready. She bit into that forbidden fruit, and

  369. in that moment, I would like to know if that

  370. happened instantly for her or if she had to wait

  371. for Adam also, and they had this experience to get

  372. the other. But everything that we see the moment Sin

  373. entered the world, and the moment her teeth broke the

  374. flesh of that fruit, Sin entered the world, and she

  375. had this experience, and then she turned.

  376. And she offered it to her husband and he ate also,

  377. and that they may come to their senses and escape

  378. the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by

  379. him to do his will.

  380. The moment she lost her senses, she started doing his will,

  381. and she brought HadAM into the fall as well. And

  382. the moment we lose our senses, we start bringing other

  383. people into our downward spiral. Also in John chapter fourteen,

  384. verse twenty six, Jesus gives us a promise. It's hard

  385. to stand against the attacks of the enemy on our own.

  386. It's hard to wake up every single day and push

  387. away the bad and embrace the good. It's a difficult thing,

  388. but the Lord didn't leave us alone. In John chapter fourteen,

  389. verse twenty six, it says, but the helper, the Holy Spirit,

  390. whom the Father will send in my name, He will

  391. teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all.

  392. Things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you.

  393. My peace.

  394. I give to you not as the world gives. But

  395. do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled.

  396. Let it not be afraid before Jesus send it into heaven.

  397. He looked at his closest friends, those ministry partners, and

  398. he said, Hey, when I go h the Father is

  399. gonna send a helper. He's gonna send Holy Spirit to

  400. come along beside you. And he's gonna be that little

  401. voice in the back of your head. He's gonna be

  402. that uneasiness in your stomach. He's gonna he's gonna be

  403. your constant friend, your faithful partner.

  404. He's gonna be your.

  405. Guide, he's gonna he's gonna live in you, and he's

  406. going to to speak those words and bring to remembrance

  407. the things I've taught you.

  408. He's he's always going to be there. But we have

  409. to invite him. We have to invite him into our lives.

  410. We have to invite him to have.

  411. Control and the freedom to speak and to guide, and

  412. we have to learn to be sensitive to the power

  413. and the guiding of the Holy Spirit.

  414. HM.

  415. He is a free gift given to every believer. But

  416. you have to desire to be led by the Holy Spirit.

  417. You have to desire to have that fullness of the

  418. Spirit in your life. When we're saved, the Holy Spirit

  419. enters our life. But when we receive the baptism of

  420. the Holy Spirit, he continues to pour into our lives,

  421. and that which is in us spills out and covers us.

  422. That's the experience that I want for you as a believer,

  423. that extra little bit of help that when the enemy says, hey,

  424. it's good for food, it's pretty.

  425. It'll make you wise.

  426. The Holy Spirit's there, and he said, no, no, don't

  427. do that. Don't it's a trap. Use your brain, use

  428. your senses, don't.

  429. Just say no.

  430. You know, if I had if I had a partner

  431. that was right one hundred percent of the time that

  432. wanted my best man, I wouldn't go anywhere without him.

  433. I'd make sure he was in the car every time

  434. I left. If he was gonna lead me towards prosperity,

  435. if he was gonna lead me towards peace, he was

  436. gonna lead me towards strength, I would treasure that relationship.

  437. H Today I'm offer you that relationship with the Holy Spirit.

  438. Everybody's staying with me all over the room. If you're

  439. here today and you want that guidance in your life,

  440. in just a moment, I'm going to count to three.

  441. I don't want you to step out and make your

  442. way down and listen. We're gonna pray for you that

  443. you would receive the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit in.

  444. Your life to guide you, to lead you.

  445. But you know you can't take that step until you

  446. take the initial step. We can't have the guidance and

  447. the leading of the Holy Spirit until we know Jesus

  448. as our Lord and savior. So if you're here today

  449. and you I never ask Jesus to forgive you of

  450. your sins, You've never asked him to be the lord

  451. of your life. But today you want to do that,

  452. I want to give you that opportunity. Every head bowed

  453. and every eye closed. If you're here today, you say, Pastor,

  454. I want to ask Jesus to cleanse me of my sins,

  455. to make me a brand new creation. I want to

  456. give my life to the Lord this morning. If that's you,

  457. just slip up your hand and say that's me, Pastor,

  458. pray for me. I want to give my life to

  459. Jesus this morning. I want to trust him as my

  460. savior this morning. Just put your hand up. You can

  461. put it right back down.

  462. Amen. Amen, Now every eye open and every head looking around.

  463. If you're here and you just raise your hand and

  464. said I want to trust Jesus as my savior. Or

  465. if you're here and you say, hey, I want to

  466. invite the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. I want

  467. him to guide me, to lead me. I want to

  468. be more sensitive. If I want to hear him speak,

  469. steer me out of try out of trouble. If that's you,

  470. either one of those things. I'm gonna count to three,

  471. and when I get to three, i want you to

  472. step out, and I want you to make you way

  473. to the front. One, two, three, step out and move

  474. right now, come on, come on, come on. I want

  475. the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. The

  476. altars open, the band's gonna begin to play and you

  477. can come. For those of you that raise your hand,

  478. I want you to make your way out and ask

  479. somebody to pray for you down here in the altar
