  1. Lord, we give you glory and honor in Jesus' name. Amen,

  2. brand new series called Clean House. Remember we preach that

  3. series in the very beginning of the year, called the

  4. Great House. And we're putting all the pieces together, working

  5. towards building.

  6. A great house.

  7. And today we're going to talk about I start talking

  8. about a clean house. And these are those areas, those

  9. weak areas of our lives that the enemy tries to

  10. infiltrade and tries to bring pressure to break us, and

  11. how we can stand against those things. And I want

  12. to start today in First Corinthians, chapter ten, First Corinthians,

  13. Chapter ten, starting in verse twelve, First Corinthians ten, Verse twelve.

  14. Therefore, let him.

  15. Who thinks he stands take heed, lest defall.

  16. Everybody look at me.

  17. We could preach, we can preach a whole series right

  18. there on that one sentence. Do you realize that there

  19. are more people that fall out of spiritual pride than

  20. probably anything else that you just simply say to yourself,

  21. you know what, I'm impervious to anything. There's no way

  22. I can make a mistake. There's no way that I

  23. could ever get myself in a bad position, in bad shape.

  24. Listen, take heed.

  25. If you think you're just going to stand because the

  26. enemy is good at what he does, come on, somebody.

  27. The enemy's good, and he will exploit your most vulnerable moments,

  28. your most vulnerable times, and he will make you think

  29. out of pride that you're impervious to his attacks. When

  30. he has isolated you and he's getting ready to pick

  31. you off, he says, listen, take heed. In other words,

  32. pay attention, look around, survey, and make sure that you

  33. are secure and that you're surrounded by a support system

  34. that can help you.

  35. That's what group day is all about.

  36. It's surrounding ourselves with people who can be there for

  37. us in our hardest, most difficult times.

  38. Verse thirteen.

  39. No temptation has overtaken you accept such as is common

  40. to man. But God is faithful who will not allow

  41. you to be tempted beyond what you're able. But with

  42. temptation will also make the way of escape that you

  43. may be able to bear it. You know, a lot

  44. of times we try to apply this passage of scripture

  45. to other things. How many of you have ever heard

  46. this saying God will never put more on you than

  47. you can handle.

  48. That's not what that says. What that says is he.

  49. Won't be allow you to be tempted beyond a way

  50. of escape. He's not going to allow temptation to come

  51. into your life, the enticement to come into your life,

  52. because the enticement is no greater. And then what is

  53. common to all humanity. In other words, the same thing

  54. you're going through other people are going through. Also the

  55. same things that tempt you tempt other people. The enemy

  56. is good at understanding humanity and understanding not just humanity

  57. at large, but you as an individual, because he knows

  58. the weaknesses.

  59. That all flesh has and how.

  60. To exploit those predispositions to certain sin that we all

  61. have in our lives.

  62. You know, when I look at my life.

  63. I very easily fall towards towards addiction. I very easily

  64. fall in that direction. You know, if I find food

  65. that I like, I will eat that food every single day.

  66. I have to be very careful.

  67. I don't play video games because I will sit down

  68. and play and I'll wake up or not wake up,

  69. and then I'll look outside and it'll be the next day.

  70. I have a givenness, I have a slant towards those things.

  71. But the Lord has shown me that about myself. So

  72. I have to bake protection and be very cognizant that

  73. I'm not falling into those habitual repetitions that will lead

  74. me to a place that I don't want to be. Now,

  75. we ask God to keep us from temptation. We ask

  76. God to keep us from those things. But I want

  77. you to understand that temptation is going to come into

  78. your life.

  79. You cannot escape it.

  80. In the society in which we live, temptation is a daily,

  81. moment by moment thing that we are faced with, all

  82. of these things that are coming into our eyes and

  83. our ears and the experiences that we have around us.

  84. Because not only does the enemy understand flesh, marketers understand flesh.

  85. Everybody that wants to sell.

  86. You something understands the power and the draw of the flesh,

  87. and they're all appealing to it on a daily basis.

  88. And it's not even the enemy.

  89. It is just the predisposition of man to give into

  90. the weakness of our flesh. Now, if you're sitting here

  91. and you just told yourself, I don't have weak flesh,

  92. I don't have any of those vulnerabilities, then I would

  93. say go back and listen to the very first part

  94. of this sermon.

  95. Take heed.

  96. Because you may be standing in spiritual pride, and he says, listen,

  97. you're not going to experience any temptation that's not common

  98. to man. But God is not going to put something

  99. on you that he doesn't also give you a way

  100. of escape. Did you realize that one of the most

  101. spiritual things you can do sometimes is run? Oh, let

  102. me say that again. One of the most spiritual things

  103. you can do sometimes is run its flee, it's turned

  104. the other way and go. You know, when we look

  105. at the story of Joseph and we look at his progress,

  106. we come to that place where he finds himself in

  107. Potiphar's house and Potiphar's wife has come to him and

  108. she's trying to she's trying to tempt him into an

  109. inappropriate relationship. And Joseph's response to that was to not

  110. stand there and think that he was able to withstand it.

  111. His response to that was he turned and ran, and

  112. sin grabbed hold of his coat. Come on, somebody grabbed

  113. hold of his jacket, and he just took his jacket

  114. off and kept on running. There's nothing in your life.

  115. There's nothing in your life. There is no possession in

  116. your life more important than your spiritual standing with Jesus.

  117. Whatever it is, cut yourself loose from it.

  118. Whatever that thing.

  119. Is that's holding on to you, cut yourself loose, drop it.

  120. Out, drop it, and keep on running.

  121. That hurt like whoo.

  122. Y'all know Jesus in.

  123. My heart, I didn't even think about saying a bad

  124. word or anything. I just smashed that thing and kept

  125. on preaching. In Galatians, chapter five, verse nineteen, it says,

  126. now the works of the flesh are evident. He says, listen,

  127. everything is common demand. Now we're here reading in Galatians.

  128. He says, now the works of the flesh are evident,

  129. which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousy,

  130. outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries,

  131. and the like. He said, I've given you a pretty

  132. exhaustive list. But if I miss something, they're like those things.

  133. Of which I tell you.

  134. Beforehand, just as I also told you in time past

  135. that those who practice such things will not inherit the

  136. Kingdom of God, He said, here's the here's the thing,

  137. Here's here's what your flesh waltz. Here's here are those

  138. things that are common to man. These are those temptations

  139. that draw us that when that person cuts you off

  140. in traffic, murder rises up in your heart. Y'all are laughing,

  141. But y'all know I'm not in a car with y'all.

  142. But y'all know, you know that's why Listen, I got

  143. a dash cam, got a dash cam for my truck,

  144. and you know where it's that in the floorboard, because

  145. that thing points back at me too.

  146. Amen.

  147. It shows them and me, and I just can't take.

  148. The chance of being recorded when that expression goes over

  149. my face.

  150. And that look is in my eye. Those things are common.

  151. They that they pull our flesh because our broken flesh,

  152. as a result of the fall of man, are always

  153. looking away from God instead.

  154. Of towards God.

  155. It is effort to make our flesh look towards God

  156. because it is naturally drawn to the things of the world.

  157. Because our flesh is from the earth and it will

  158. return to the earth. It is bound to the world,

  159. and it's always going.

  160. To be a fight.

  161. He says, Listen, I'm telling you now and I've also

  162. told you in the past. In other words, he says, listen,

  163. this is not a battle that we're ever going to win.

  164. There's always going to be a battle between our flesh

  165. and our spirit. We're always fighting that fight because those

  166. things are in opposition to one another. And I told

  167. you then Now I'm writing again, and I'm telling you

  168. another time.

  169. That these things.

  170. Will cause you to miss the Kingdom of God.

  171. Now I want you to think for just a moment.

  172. I want you to stop and ponder for just a moment,

  173. if the temptation that's drawing you, if the result of

  174. acting on that temptation is greater than the privilege of heaven. Now, listen,

  175. I'm cutting out some characteristics that we know about Jesus. Okay,

  176. I'm I'm I'm cutting out mercy, I'm cutting out grace.

  177. I want I want to do this in a very clinical,

  178. lab driven scenario. That is, the thing that is enticing you,

  179. that thing that's calling out to you, is it worth

  180. being disqualified from the rewards of heaven? Because there are

  181. those places in our life, those vulnerabilities that if we

  182. don't weigh them against the consequences, we may participate and

  183. just expect Jesus to move in our lives and grace.

  184. But what if we find ourselves in a moment where

  185. we are so overtaken by acting on that temptation that

  186. it becomes very hard to ever look back towards the

  187. grace of God.

  188. Do you know?

  189. Addictions don't start in a moment. Addictions start when we

  190. begin to stack bad decisions on top of each other.

  191. Come on somebody, And it doesn't matter what that addiction is.

  192. I'm not just talking about the things that we think about.

  193. I'm talking about any addiction that susceptibility of our flesh,

  194. those weak places where we're more predisposed to slide down

  195. the hill than in the other areas of our lives.

  196. With David, it was Bathsheba, Come on somebody. With Samson

  197. it was Delilah, or probably more appropriate, a hatred of

  198. the felictings. When we go through Scripture, we see these

  199. vulnerabilities in the lives of all of these great heroes

  200. of the faith that we look back to and we

  201. read about, and that we base these things in our

  202. lives on the circumstances and the situations of their life.

  203. But they were all susceptible, just like we are to temptation. Now,

  204. let me just go ahead and clarify. Temptation is not sin.

  205. I expect somebody say amen, right there, So let me

  206. say it again. Say y'all can, and we'll cut the

  207. first one out of the tape. Temptation is not sin.

  208. Acting upon temptation is sin. When David was walking on

  209. the rooftop, he looked, he saw bast Sheeba in the bathtub.

  210. If he had turned around, that wasn't sin. It wasn't

  211. until he stopped and looked again. Come on, somebody, That's

  212. when it became sin.

  213. And sin is our flesh's attachment.

  214. To the earth, to the world.

  215. Temptation is the module that moves us from where we

  216. want to be to where we don't want to be.

  217. And second Peter, chapter two, verse ten, it says, and

  218. especially those.

  219. Who walk according to the.

  220. According to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and

  221. despise authority. He says, here's here's here's how we know

  222. we're reaching a point of susceptibility, when our flesh is

  223. drawing weak, when we're getting to the place where we're

  224. not going to be able to stand. He said, here's

  225. what your your your fleshly lust looks like. It says,

  226. they're presumptuous.

  227. They they they make.

  228. Presuppositions about things. They think they have an understanding of things.

  229. They think they got it all figured out. They think

  230. that they're above it, they think that they're better than it.

  231. They think they got it all under control.

  232. Said, they're presumptuous.

  233. Their self willed.

  234. You know, one of the uh one of the the

  235. hardest things to overcome.

  236. Is self will if it's not aligned with God's will.

  237. For a long time, I operated my life in accordance

  238. with my will. As a matter of fact, I wasn't

  239. concerned with God in the least bit. Through the first

  240. several many years of my life, until I was twenty

  241. years old, I wasn't worried about God's will or God

  242. at all, because I thought I was him. I thought

  243. my will was all that mattered. What I desired was

  244. all that mattered. My goals were all that mattered. The

  245. things that were in front of me was all that mattered.

  246. I was the main character in my story, and as

  247. a result, I was so self willed that God tried

  248. to work, and God tried to move, but I was

  249. always resistant.

  250. I was always pushing against him.

  251. And even though I was very susceptible to sin, it

  252. was as if though I was impervious to the moving

  253. of the Holy Spirit, because it was all about me.

  254. If you're self willed, and you have the attitude that

  255. I can do it and I can make it, there

  256. is a fall right around the corner. They're presumptuous, self willed.

  257. They're not afraid to speak evil against dignitaries. The moment

  258. we start speaking against authority, the moment we start speaking

  259. against those who God has set over us, it begins

  260. to shift us from that place where we are placed

  261. underneath godly authority, and we begin to take control of

  262. those things as if we know better. But God has

  263. those come on somebody. God has set people over. It's

  264. clear in scripture that God sets authority over us. As

  265. a matter of fact, it's very clear that if we

  266. want to grow spiritually, this is what Scripture says.

  267. It says, remember.

  268. Those who rule over you, who have spoken the word

  269. of God to you, whose faith follow He says, here's

  270. the thing, those people that are said over you, there

  271. should be a display of faith.

  272. And if there's a display.

  273. Of faith, then we follow that faith, We follow that

  274. display of who God is and what he can do.

  275. And in Galatians five, verse sixteen, it says, I say,

  276. then here's the key.

  277. Here's how we turn.

  278. The tide on the lust of the flesh. Walk in

  279. the spirit. Let me say that again, walk in the spirit,

  280. and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

  281. If you walk in the spirit, you won't fulfill the

  282. lust of the flesh.

  283. Well, how do I do that?

  284. We just finished a series on discipleship. You learn to

  285. worship through the hard times. You get in a group

  286. and you surround yourself with people who want the best

  287. for you. You open your day with gratitude and you

  288. understand that God has the best intentions for you, even

  289. when it doesn't feel great. We learn to walk in

  290. the spirit for the luck. For the flesh lust against

  291. the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh.

  292. Listen to that we've talked.

  293. We understand the word lust, We understand it in our

  294. society today. But it says, hey, the flesh lust against

  295. the spirit, but the spirit also lusts against the flesh.

  296. That the flesh has drawn to the world, but the

  297. spirit lusts after God, his presence, and who he is,

  298. his character and his nature, And if I'm spirit driven,

  299. it's pulling me towards him and away from worldliness. And

  300. these are contrary to one another, so that you do

  301. not do the things that you wish in either direction.

  302. If our flesh is in control, we wan't do the

  303. spiritual things we want to do. If our spirit is

  304. in control, we wan't do the fleshly things that we

  305. want to do.

  306. Here's the reality.

  307. We're all falling broken people, every one of us redeemed

  308. by grace. We all make poor decisions on a daily basis.

  309. We have those seasons of life.

  310. Where we don't live in a renewed mind, and we're

  311. always constantly fighting against those thought processes. But we serve

  312. a God who is to him. We serve a God

  313. who wants the best for us. We serve a God

  314. who positions us around other believers that can help us

  315. on our journey with the things that we're struggling with,

  316. the things that we're thinking about struggling with. Come on, somebody,

  317. do you know that if some of you will just

  318. open your mouth and talk about the things you want

  319. to do, there's somebody that can help you from doing them.

  320. That if we don't always get on the other side

  321. of it and say, oh, I did this, what do

  322. I do? What if you just had a conversation before

  323. you did it? Nobody here is gonna think you're terrible person.

  324. We're gonna think you are a person trying to live

  325. in the grace of Jesus Christ. And that's what groups

  326. are all about. So this is that moment where we

  327. normally make an altar call and ask you to come

  328. down to the altar and.

  329. We pray for you.

  330. But here is your call today.

  331. Here is your call of action today, is that instead

  332. of trying to do life alone, thinking that you're the

  333. only one that's going through what you're going through today,

  334. you're gonna go get in a group today. You're gonna

  335. find a group that meets on a weekly or monthly

  336. or bi weekly or however often they meet basis men.

  337. I'm gonna invite you at seven am to get up

  338. and come to Kurts on Tuesday mornings and we're gonna

  339. eat sausage, gravy, come on somebody and talk about Jesus.

  340. Gonna invite you to come and get involved in an

  341. incredible group of ladies or an incredible group of people

  342. that want to bowl, or people that want to learn

  343. how to interpret scripture correctly, or there's so many groups

  344. that you can be involved in, and I want you

  345. to find two or three of those groups that you

  346. can visit over the next week or two and make

  347. the decision about where you fit the best. And on

  348. top of that, we're gonna feed you the most amazing

  349. tacos you've ever eaten. So in just a moment, when

  350. we dismiss, I don't want you to just head out

  351. and go to your car. I want you to give

  352. special thought because the other things we do are just

  353. as spiritual as coming to this altar.

  354. Group.

  355. Attendants, Justice spiritual is coming to this altar fellowship is

  356. just as spiritual as coming.

  357. To this altar.

  358. All of those things are part of the Kingdom of God.

  359. So let me pray for you, Father. I come right

  360. now to you and Lord, those of us in this

  361. room that are already bound, Lord, that are are held

  362. in chains. I pray for freedom for those that are

  363. standing on the precipice, Lord, those that are standing right

  364. on the edge of making poor decisions that will start

  365. us on a road.

  366. Towards sin. I pray that you keep us from it.

  367. Lord, I pray right now that you meet every person

  368. at their point of need and open their hearts to

  369. experience what true Christian fellowship is. Lord, I ask it

  370. right now in Jesus' name. Amen, listen, let's go do

  371. those four things. Experience God, walk in freedom, find our place,

  372. and live with purpose. I'm going to meet you down

  373. at the grill in just a few minutes. Until then,

  374. remember Jesus is an orning with the oil of gladness,

  375. not the oil of sadness.

  376. And so were you. You're blessed and you're.

  377. Dismissed to participate in the rest of the worship. Experience

  378. doubt in the annex. Love you guys, go get your

  379. kids before you go eat.
