  1. Amen.

  2. If you got a Bible, go to James chapter one.

  3. James chapter one. We're continuing in our series clean House.

  4. I mentioned I have been reading a lot of of

  5. of some of that old church literature and those those

  6. founding fathers that stood and and they saw the early

  7. Church and all of the pressure and the persecution that

  8. went on. And I begin to h to read some

  9. of that over the last week and be inspired by it.

  10. And this quote also for from from Tertullian. Men remain

  11. in ignorant ignorance as long as they hate. Let me

  12. read that again because I think somebody needs to hear this.

  13. Men remain in ignorance as long as they hate, and

  14. they hate unjustly. As long as they remain in ignorance.

  15. I want you to understand that the proper response to

  16. what is happening is not hatred. The proper response is

  17. not hatred. We have an opportunity to respond the correct

  18. way to see the Kingdom of God grow. We have

  19. an opportunity right now, as the world looks at us,

  20. to respond appropriately and lead the way we stand on

  21. the precipice of either the greatest failure or the greatest

  22. move of the local church in the United States. There

  23. is more stirring, There is more sentiment. There is more anxiety,

  24. more fear, more faith, more prayer than at any point

  25. that I have ever seen in my ministry. Right now,

  26. as we stand here and when we look at what

  27. is happening, we must be cognizant. We must have a

  28. full understanding of what's happening, or the enemy will use

  29. us and point us in the wrong direction, not out

  30. of not out of our own sin, not out of

  31. our own rebellion, but out of.

  32. Our own ignorance. Come on, somebody.

  33. In James chapter one, verse two, it starts like this,

  34. my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into

  35. various trials.

  36. Let me just stop right there.

  37. I'm gonna read some more, but let me stop right there.

  38. There's something clear that he's saying here.

  39. He said, listen, when.

  40. You fall into trials, it's not the natural thing for

  41. it to feel joyful. He said, it's not natural. That's

  42. not the natural response. When you feel pressure, the natural

  43. response is not well, thank you Jesus, that's not the

  44. natural response.

  45. But we should go out of our way.

  46. We should make the effort, we have to put forth

  47. the the action and the effort to count it all joy,

  48. because when we can come to that place, then the

  49. rest of this scripture happens and we move towards spiritual maturity.

  50. He says, knowing that the testing of your.

  51. Faith produces patience, Now I'm going to how many of

  52. you believe I'm gonna show a hands with transparency is

  53. our foundational core value?

  54. Here?

  55. How many of you believe that you have a solid foundation,

  56. you have more than enough patience?

  57. Raise your hand about three people. Okay, the rest of

  58. y'all are in my camp. I do not have I

  59. am not, nor have I ever been a patient person.

  60. I just don't like waiting. I don't like sitting back.

  61. I like to move. And a lot of times in

  62. the history of my life I have moved and then

  63. I've had to turn around and say, God, can you

  64. fix what I just did?

  65. Amen?

  66. Because I didn't have the patience to see what God

  67. was doing. But he said, the testing of your faith

  68. produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that

  69. you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Patience produces

  70. wholeness where we lack nothing, nothing missing, nothing broken. Patience

  71. when it has its perfect work, when it is fulfilled,

  72. we step into a place of complete and utter peace.

  73. If any of you lacks wisdom, you know it's funny

  74. that he says, these are the steps.

  75. These are the steps.

  76. Have faith when your faith is tested, when a trial.

  77. Comes, count it all joy.

  78. Your faith is being tested, so it produces patience. When

  79. patience gets to the end, And listen. He understands that

  80. we don't know this. He understands this is not the

  81. natural expression of the human state. Is to just allow

  82. things to simmer, allow things to have its work on

  83. the inside of us.

  84. Allow the first thing we do.

  85. I would almost guarantee that ninety percent of the people

  86. in here when something happens are your initial response is panic.

  87. And it doesn't matter what it is, doesn't matter what

  88. it is.

  89. Flat tire, Oh no, what world is over? Just change it.

  90. Right, Pull up your bank account. You got twelve dollars,

  91. Stop spending money. These things don't require panic. My brakes

  92. go out, I'm headed off a cliff.

  93. Panic anything short of that.

  94. Just understand God is working and moving, and he's got

  95. you because he says he has you.

  96. And listen. If he chooses not to fix things the

  97. way you.

  98. Think they should be fixed, it's because.

  99. It brings more glory to Him and the Kingdom for

  100. it to end up that way, And.

  101. My personal happiness and my personal comfort does not matter

  102. in the grand scheme of who God is and what

  103. the Kingdom is. His plan is paramount. His plan is first.

  104. His plan is more important than Steve. If any of

  105. you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives.

  106. To all liberally and without reply.

  107. If God gives wisdom freely, I'm about to say something.

  108. You're gonna get offended this, okay.

  109. If God gives wisdom freely, why are there so many

  110. dumb people? Y'all are laughing, But I'm kind of serious.

  111. It's because we're not asking. We're not asking because we

  112. live in the ignorance of a flesh experience, because we

  113. want to live right here.

  114. We don't want to live down here.

  115. We want to live making a knee jerk reaction to

  116. everything that happens. And the enemy will push your buttons

  117. and get you to make a mistake that will draw

  118. you away from.

  119. God instead of towards God.

  120. And it will be given liberally without reproach, and it will.

  121. Be given to him.

  122. But let him ask in faith, just like everything in

  123. the kingdom.

  124. It's a cycle.

  125. It starts with faith, it ends with faith. To start

  126. it with faith, let him ask in faith with no doubting.

  127. For he who doubts as like a wave of the sea,

  128. driven and tossed by the wind. For not let that

  129. man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.

  130. He's a double minded man, unstable in all his ways. Father,

  131. We thank you for your word. It's the only change

  132. agent on the face of this planet. And I pray

  133. that today you bury it deep at the fabric of

  134. our soul. Lord, that we take this anger, this righteous indignation,

  135. that we take all of these things that we're feeling

  136. and sorting through, and that you help it be a

  137. positive kingdom expression, that it would build your kingdom, not

  138. our social media, not our reputation, not fulfill the lust

  139. of our flesh, but it would build your kingdom.

  140. Inspire us today, Jesus, in your name, we pray Amen.

  141. So the reality is, he says, listen, when trials come,

  142. there is a purpose for a trial. A trial is

  143. to build faith and patience and perfection. And if we

  144. can't get those things right, ask for wisdom. But the

  145. problem is is when we go through experiences like this.

  146. How many of you when you go through social media

  147. right now, you get angry. You see things on social

  148. media that make you angry. I spend a half an

  149. hour a day going through comments on social media, erasing

  150. idiotic things, half an hour a day, and it makes

  151. me mad.

  152. And what I want to do is reply back.

  153. What I want to do is hit that little camera

  154. button and make a video response.

  155. To the comment. That's what I want to do. But

  156. I just deleted. I just deleted because I.

  157. Have understood and found out the difference between trial and temptation,

  158. and many times they manifest themselves in the same way.

  159. But if we as believers can understand the difference between

  160. a trial, which is purpose is to is to produce

  161. faith and bring us towards wholeness and completeness, and temptation,

  162. which is a tool for our downfall, at that point

  163. we can begin to express ourselves in living a whole

  164. nother level of kingdom, being at spiritual maturity when we

  165. talk about trials and temptations and listen, I okay, here's

  166. the thing. I know y'all might not be able to

  167. see this board. I got somebody to write this stuff

  168. on this board. I'm about to write stuff on this

  169. board and you won't be able to read it even

  170. if you can see it.

  171. Okay, but that's okay.

  172. I should have got somebody with messier writing so that

  173. it mine wouldn't look so bad.

  174. But it's just the reality of how it is.

  175. So when we understand trials and temptation, there's three levels

  176. of filter that we need to use to determine whether

  177. it is a trial or a temptation. The number one

  178. filter that we apply to it is this God trying me?

  179. Is God bringing me up a level? Is God trying

  180. to do something in me?

  181. Is this God? Or is this the enemy? The number

  182. one sore is it God?

  183. And I put a question mark because I want you

  184. to understand that not all temptation comes from the enemy.

  185. Let me say that again, not all temptation comes from

  186. the enemy. Our own fleshly desires tempt us, other people

  187. tempt us, and the enemy certainly brings temptation into our lives.

  188. But I do not want you to.

  189. Think that you are so important that the devil is

  190. following you around tempting you. What you face is not

  191. the devil himself. Big l Lucifer. He doesn't have time

  192. for us. He can only be in one place at

  193. one time. So do not give him the attention and

  194. the glory to say the devil is doing this to

  195. my life, because the reality is he's not.

  196. The reality is he's influencing.

  197. World leaders, he's taking shots from buildings, He's doing those

  198. things to try to damage and hurt the most people.

  199. So that's why I put a question mark, because it's

  200. not always the devil that's bringing temptation. Temptation comes in

  201. many different forms. But a trial the source of a trial.

  202. If the source is God, it's a trial. God will

  203. not tempt you. Let me say that again.

  204. God will not tempt you.

  205. God will not present you with something that pulls you

  206. towards sin. If the source is God, it's a trial.

  207. If the source is anything else.

  208. It's temptation. How do I know?

  209. Because I mean, this is to me, this is the

  210. hard one, right because there's a lot of.

  211. Things that I think are God.

  212. How many of you think that, you know you feel

  213. that you're like, oh, I think that's God.

  214. I'm pretty sure that's God. Yeah, that's God.

  215. Let me make that response video and it's not God.

  216. And at this level, God gives us a tool here.

  217. It's one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Discernment

  218. is what allows us to know the source. The spiritual

  219. gift of discernment allows us to know the source, whether

  220. it's God or whether it's evil. The second filter is

  221. the intent.

  222. What is the intent of what's happening.

  223. If the intent is to push me to look more

  224. like God, If the intent is for me to look

  225. more like Him.

  226. Then it's a trial. It's from God.

  227. If the intent is to build me up and make

  228. me better, it's a trial.

  229. God is putting me through a trial.

  230. If the intent is for it to be a flesh response,

  231. if the intent is for it to do something contrary

  232. to the Word of God and lead me towards sin

  233. and brokenness and hate and anger and all of those things,

  234. then it's temptation. Two filters right there, Two surface level

  235. filters to let me know whether I'm going through a

  236. trial or a temptation.

  237. And this matters. It matters if.

  238. It's God, if the genesis is God, or if the genesis.

  239. Is the enemy, because it will feel.

  240. Your flesh will feel good to accept that temptation, and

  241. a temptation doesn't always look like evil. A temptation can

  242. even look like good. In the present situation, those people

  243. would think it was good if we blasted people online

  244. for saying stupid things. Most people would think it was

  245. good if we screamed and yelled and did those things

  246. that we're trying to be drawn into those traps.

  247. That we're trying to listen.

  248. The enemy is watching you with television cameras, and he

  249. wants to paint a picture of the church that's simply

  250. not true. He wants to right now, he wants to

  251. paint a picture of the church that says they're hateful,

  252. they're small minded, they're not accepting.

  253. They're not this. They're not this. They're not this. They

  254. are this. They are misogynistic. They are this. They are

  255. that they are.

  256. Don't take the bait that is temptation to respond in

  257. love can still be the truth. It has to be

  258. the truth or it's not love. That's trial. The third

  259. filter is the outcome, the outcome. And here's the reality is,

  260. once we get to the outcome, we may have already

  261. missed it. Come on, somebody, Once you get to the outcome,

  262. once you realize what's happened, it may be too late,

  263. because if the outcome is spiritual growth, if the outcome

  264. is I'm moving towards maturity, then it was a trial.

  265. Here's the worst thing that happens. If God presents us

  266. with a trial. If God presents something for our growth

  267. and we fail it, we stay where we are.

  268. Let me say that again.

  269. You stay where you are. It doesn't draw you to sein,

  270. It doesn't. It doesn't break you, It doesn't do any

  271. of those things. You just don't go from glory to glory.

  272. You don't just you just don't progress. You don't spiritually mature.

  273. You just end up where you were. Because a trial

  274. is not meant to break you. It's meant to elevate you.

  275. It's meant to bring you up.

  276. Because our whole lives are a test.

  277. We're either being tested daily by trials, which is God,

  278. or tested daily by temptation.

  279. Which is me or you or the enemy.

  280. And he says, hey, listen, the outcome if I've grown up.

  281. But what happens.

  282. If we get there and the outcome is that it

  283. was sin. What happens when we get there and we

  284. look back and we're like, oh, shoot, I thought it

  285. was a trial.

  286. But it wasn't I felt so good about that. I

  287. just knew. I knew that when I use those new

  288. words I learned.

  289. I just thought that was God just wanting me to

  290. just express myself and unburden myself.

  291. I was just so angry, and now I just feel

  292. so good.

  293. And then we look and we've hurt people, and we've

  294. brought shame to the Kingdom of God and to our Savior.

  295. Because of the way we've responded, we now have a

  296. deeper hole to dig out of. And I am now

  297. bound by guilt, and I'm bound by hurt and brokenness,

  298. and I'm full of shame and guilt and all of

  299. those things.

  300. That's the outcome of a temptation.

  301. And when I get there, the only response is repentance.

  302. Let me say that again, the only response is repentance. Now,

  303. God says, hey, we don't want ignorant men to stay ignorant.

  304. We want you to know because we want you to build,

  305. we want you to grow. So here's the reality is

  306. that for a long time, the modern church has taught

  307. that repentance is just simply going to God and saying God,

  308. I'm sorry, I'm sorry I did that. But that's not

  309. that's not repentance. It's part of repentance, but it's not repentance.

  310. Repentance is when I see the era of my ways

  311. and I stop.

  312. In my tracks.

  313. It's where Paul says, shall I go on sinning so

  314. that grace may increase?

  315. Surely?

  316. Not stop doing it? Turn and move in the opposite direction.

  317. That's repentance that I put safeguards in my life so

  318. that I don't repeat it, and I don't get caught

  319. in that cycle, so that I'm continually drugged down. Because

  320. if we are giving in to temptation more than we're

  321. being built up by trials, we end up at a

  322. spiritual deficit. We're not staying where we are, we're not growing.

  323. We're actually regressing in our faith. As a matter of fact,

  324. I'm going to tell you that if you're not progressing

  325. in your faith, you are regressing because there is no

  326. staying standard in the Kingdom of God, because he's progressive.

  327. He's always moving, he's always working. He's always calling us

  328. towards purpose, he's always calling us towards destiny. He's always

  329. calling us to make an impact. And if we're not,

  330. we're getting further behind.

  331. On your spiritual road map. Are you on the right road.

  332. Are you stopping at every gas station and filling up,

  333. or are you stopping at every gas station in buying twinkies.

  334. That hurt when I just said that.

  335. But when we understand trials and temptations, then we can

  336. begin to grasp purpose at a whole different level. When

  337. we understand what is happening in our lives in the

  338. direction we're headed, then we understand purpose at a.

  339. Whole new level.

  340. Because trials are going to drive us towards purpose, and

  341. temptation will pull us away from purpose. Trials will drive

  342. us towards our destiny and God's plan.

  343. For our lives.

  344. Temptation will pull us away from it or try to

  345. slow us down. So when you discern these things and

  346. you immediately know, oh the source of this is the devil,

  347. I'm not going there.

  348. Oh the intent of this is to break me. I'm

  349. not going there.

  350. Or I get on the other side because I just

  351. got fooled. I just missed it, I just blew it.

  352. I just missed what was happening, and I get on

  353. the other side. My immediate response, my immediate reaction is

  354. I'm not listen. Here's what Most people's immediate response is

  355. when they know they've messed up.

  356. I can't go back to church. I can't go back

  357. to church. I'm so and bad. I can't go back

  358. to church.

  359. I'm just going to delete my Facebook. Facebook didn't make

  360. you say those stupid things.

  361. That's where you fix it. That's where you repent if you.

  362. Did it on Facebook. Go fix it on Facebook. Go

  363. reply to the people you hit and say, hey, listen,

  364. I'm sorry, I miss God. I want you to know

  365. that my response was not godly. You're still wrong, but

  366. my response was not godly. Do you know they can

  367. be wrong and your response not be godly. My response

  368. it was tempered by hate, it wasn't tempered by love.

  369. And I'm sorry and I'm gonna do better. Don't just

  370. delete it. Don't just shut your social media.

  371. Go repent on it. Go make things right on it.

  372. Go to those people that you blew up on and

  373. tell them you're sorry. That's true repentance. Not this man

  374. be paying me. Old Jesus forgive me. I'll do better

  375. next time. Know you what, He's not going to fund

  376. your addiction of hate and meanness by excusing you, just

  377. by asking I'm sorry in Romans chapter eight, verse twenty eight.

  378. No matter what happens, there's redemption at the end. Clay,

  379. You guys can come and get ready. If I'm successfully

  380. navigate a trial, or if I'm miserably f temptation. Listen

  381. to what scripture says in Romans chapter eight, verse twenty eight,

  382. and we know that all things work together for good.

  383. We'dout to stop quoting it right there, but let's finish it.

  384. To those who love God, to those who were called

  385. according to his purpose. If you were called according to

  386. his purpose, if you were on assignment, if you are

  387. chasing your destiny and your purpose and you are trying

  388. to build the Kingdom of God, and you miss it

  389. and you fall prey to temptation, the Bible says that

  390. Jesus will spin it at the end when you repent,

  391. and it will still work together for good.

  392. That he will bring a.

  393. Testimony out of your life because you missed it, and

  394. you were big enough to say you missed it, and

  395. he'll work it together. For whom he foreknew, let's just

  396. go ahead and deal with this one too, for whom

  397. he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the

  398. image of his son, that he might be the.

  399. First born among many brethren.

  400. Listen, he didn't predestine you to be the son of God.

  401. He didn't predestine you to be saved or not be saved.

  402. He predestined the plan that he has for your life,

  403. so that you can live in the fulfillment of purpose,

  404. knowing that you are a son of God. He has

  405. laid a plan out from you from the very foundation

  406. of the earth. He has an assignment for every single

  407. person that's born. And when we get saved, we just

  408. chase after that purpose and that destiny with a reckless

  409. abandon because he's laid it before us.

  410. And when we get to the end and we've.

  411. Achieved purpose, he stands by his throne and he says,

  412. well done, my good and faithful servant, Welcome into the kingdom.

  413. And we think that looks glorious, But you know, sometimes

  414. it seems abbreviated. Sometimes a man is sitting at a

  415. table on a college campus talking about the principles of

  416. Jesus and somebody kills him. Let me tell you what

  417. didn't happen in heaven. Jesus didn't say. Jesus was standing

  418. at the gate and he put his arms around Charlie

  419. Kirk and he said, well done, my good and faithful servant.

  420. Welcome into your reward and your rest. And if somebody

  421. comes in and shoots me right now, Jesus will say,

  422. well done, my good and faithful servant. Now online, I

  423. just want you to know, if you come in and

  424. shoot me, you're gonna get shot. We take pastoring you

  425. very seriously because and there's an element of protection that

  426. comes with that. We take that very seriously, and we

  427. have a plan in place. And listen, if we're ever

  428. in the midst of worship or wherever we are and

  429. you hear someone say get down, don't run around like

  430. a crazy person.

  431. There's a plan in place. You just get down.

  432. Do not. If you're here and you're not part of

  433. our security team. It's sad that we have to address

  434. things like this from the stage, but we do. If

  435. you're not part of our security team and something happens,

  436. whatever you do, do not draw a gun.

  437. You will get shot.

  438. Also, let them do their job and walk in their

  439. spiritual gifting and their calling.

  440. Amen. Amen, just let them do it. Now.

  441. I will say that if a barrier will come and

  442. plug the hole, if he can, but just do what

  443. we say and you're gonna be all right. Guys, we

  444. live in a scary time. We live in a time

  445. where it's not just us that are afraid, but everybody's afraid.

  446. You know, we all see those stereotypical scenarios where you're

  447. walking down a road side of the road and somebody

  448. that looks different from you, feels different from you, and

  449. you don't quite understand who they are, and that fear

  450. grips you and you move to the other side of

  451. the road. I want you to understand that Christians are

  452. moving to the other side of the road right now,

  453. and so are the lost, because they're afraid of you.

  454. They are afraid of you. And until we can live

  455. in the love of Jesus, until we can.

  456. Love, learn to speak truth.

  457. Bathed in love, both sides will continue to live in

  458. ignorance and will never come together. But there is an

  459. important agenda at hand, and that is God's purpose for mankind.

  460. And it doesn't matter how mad I am. It doesn't

  461. matter what's happening on the inside of me. It doesn't

  462. matter what the American part of me says. It matters

  463. what the Kingdom part of me says, and you don't

  464. have to take a back seat anymore. You don't have

  465. to lower your head anymore. You don't have to make

  466. an excuse for God anymore. You don't have to do

  467. those things you never did, but you certainly don't have to.

  468. Now. It's time for you to be bold and speak

  469. the truth. But when you're bold to speak the truth, you.

  470. Better be able to back it up by love and

  471. not hate.

  472. Because he's calling you to make a difference.

  473. People are tired of hearing from men with microphones, and

  474. they want to hear from people with a cup of

  475. coffee or a bag of groceries, or a little help

  476. with the light bill, or an honest conversation about why

  477. are you the way you are?

  478. That's it, you know, if you're here today and you.

  479. Haven't had a good response, You've cussed everybody out online.

  480. You called your at because you thought she might have

  481. voted Democrat one time back when she was a teenager,

  482. so cussed her out, told your mom and daddy not

  483. to call anymore. That's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. I have people

  484. in my face. I think they've lost their mind.

  485. I still love them with all my heart. That needs

  486. to be your response. Everybody, stay with me.

  487. You know, if you're here today and you don't know

  488. where you are, you don't know what to do, you

  489. don't know what to say. Maybe you just need to

  490. have an encounter with Jesus this morning. Maybe you need

  491. more of Him less of the pressure of the world.

  492. On the count of three, if you just say I

  493. want more of Jesus, I'm going to ask you to come.

  494. I'm going to ask our prayer team to come and

  495. get ready, and then we're gonna baptize some people. I'm

  496. so excited, so excited, you know. Uh, this is why

  497. we do what we do. This is why we love

  498. the way we love. This is why we fight the

  499. battles that we fight so that we can have, you know,

  500. baptism and we can baptize Jackson and Jaden.

  501. That's why. That's why we do what we do.

  502. But it takes you moving from where you are in

  503. moments just like this and surrendering to Jesus. So on

  504. the count of three, if you're ready to bring your hurt,

  505. your brokenness, your anger, your pain, your sin to Jesus,

  506. I'm gonna ask you to step and move. The band's

  507. gonna sing the count of three. Step out and move.

  508. Don't look to see if anybody.

  509. Else is moving.

  510. You be bold and move one, two, three, step out

  511. and come right now. If you just say, I want

  512. the word of Jesus, I want to live out loud.

  513. I want to be a difference maker, a kingdom citizen,

  514. a peace broker.

  515. Amen. Amen, past your claim.
