  1. Amen, if you got a Bible, we're gonna start. We're

  2. gonna jump back in Matthew chapter twenty three like last week,

  3. but we want to take a relatively deep dive but

  4. quick dive today and finish up our series on giving.

  5. I think that this is one.

  6. Of the areas that a lot of people struggle, is

  7. the area of giving, because it feels like, especially where

  8. we live, that it is the most vital.

  9. To us being able to make it.

  10. How many of you have ever been in a place

  11. where you had just a little bit of money and

  12. you didn't feel like you were gonna make it, and

  13. it stresses you out and you don't quite you know,

  14. you just don't know how the ends are gonna meet,

  15. and it becomes an overwhelming thought and it's hard to

  16. shake and get past. And the enemy uses that and

  17. he'll bring things into our lives. And it's easy when

  18. we look at giving to look at it from a

  19. very legalistic standpoint, and.

  20. I don't want you to do that.

  21. As a matter of fact, let's go ahead and talk

  22. about legalism. Let's define legalism today. Legalism is the practice

  23. of treating rule keeping as the basis of our relationship

  24. with God.

  25. Let me say that again.

  26. You treat rule keeping as the basis for your relationship

  27. with God, that's legalism. In other words, my whole relationship

  28. with God is based on a certain set of dos

  29. and don'ts. If that is our mindset and that is

  30. the way we come to God, then that is not

  31. a pure relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  32. It is based on every other relationship that we have

  33. in our lives, only at a much deeper level. You know,

  34. my life doesn't and I know that anybody that knows

  35. me very well can testify to this. My wife does

  36. not love me because I do everything right. I was

  37. actually expected more laughter than that. I said, thank y'all

  38. for respecting your pastor right that she doesn't love me

  39. because I always get it right. You know that there's

  40. a lot of times where holidays come around and I

  41. don't know if I'm responsible for getting the gift or not.

  42. Come on, somebody like I don't know if my wife

  43. gets an Easter basket or not. My children are grown,

  44. do I am I responsible for getting a Mother's Day

  45. gift as well? On our anniversary? It's also my anniversary,

  46. and I feel like I have been a blessing to her.

  47. So some of y'all are like, you better just not

  48. even go home today. But when we come to God

  49. thinking that if I do all the right things and

  50. I don't do the wrong things, God loves me more,

  51. that is a perverted view of Jesus. Now, the pursuit

  52. of holiness is something that we should absolutely chase after,

  53. but that has nothing to do with the love that

  54. God has for us. So understanding that context, we can

  55. talk about giving. Because nowhere does giving effect your relationship

  56. with Jesus. Let me say that again, giving does not

  57. affect your relationship with Jesus, not one iota. Salvation is

  58. a free gift, and the deeper we fall in love

  59. with Jesus, the more we chase after the things that

  60. He provides for us. Matthew chapter twenty three, Verse twenty

  61. three says, woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for

  62. you pay tithe of mint and a niece and cuman,

  63. and have neglected the weight of your matters of the law,

  64. justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have

  65. done without leaving the others undone blind guides who strain

  66. out a gnat and swallow a camel. Let's pray, Father,

  67. we thank you for your word. It's the only change

  68. agent on the face of the planet.

  69. And I pray God that you work and move like

  70. only you can. Father.

  71. I pray that you do miracles in us and through

  72. us today, that we would see new dimensions of your

  73. power and new depths of your holiness, that you would

  74. captivate our hearts in Jesus'.

  75. Name, Amen, Amen, and amen.

  76. You know, I think a lot of times we look

  77. at this and Jesus is saying, Hey, there are some

  78. matters that are good for you, say me. And there

  79. are some things that are good for others, say others.

  80. And a lot of times what we want to do

  81. is we want to make the biggest deal about the

  82. things that are good for us and treat the things

  83. that are good for others as less weightier issues, because,

  84. after all, those people are not the main character in

  85. the story, right, And we look at things and we

  86. come to God in that context, and we always think

  87. that God is more concerned with us than he is

  88. other people, and needs you to get through this hard

  89. part than we'll get into the good part. But God

  90. is not more concerned with you than he is anybody else.

  91. God is not more concerned. He doesn't care more or

  92. less about you than he does any other part of creation.

  93. He is passionately in love with his creation.

  94. And we are all level at the foot of the cross,

  95. every single one of us. But when we come to

  96. God and we think that he owes us something special

  97. because of who we are, or because of the way

  98. we see the world, then the enemy gets involved and

  99. he begins to tie our minds up, and he begins

  100. to show us things in scripture that are not there.

  101. Because the Gospel.

  102. Scripture is the least selfish thing you will ever experience

  103. in your life. After all, the premise of the Gospel

  104. is give your life away. That's the whole premise of

  105. the Gospel is to give your life away. But somehow,

  106. in the modern church especially, we take the concept of

  107. give your life away and somehow say.

  108. This is about me getting what I want in the

  109. time that I want it.

  110. You know, the reality is is that God loves us

  111. and will give to us, and he opens opportunities for

  112. us and doors for us to walk through into the

  113. systems that He has put in place. The systems that

  114. God has put in place, Now does God work outside

  115. of his systems. Yes, are there times where God just

  116. does something because he's God. Certainly, how many times have

  117. you seen God work just because he's God. God's done

  118. things for me that I didn't deserve. God's done things

  119. feels like to me. Come on, somebody that I know

  120. I didn't deserve. I mean, when I compare myself to

  121. the rest of y'all, I'm up there, I mean you know,

  122. I mean, y'all are too serious today. Come on, now,

  123. this is not the congregation that I usually preach to.

  124. I don't know why y'all are uptight, but loosen up

  125. a little bit.

  126. If I take the best part of me and compare

  127. it to the worst part of anybody in here.

  128. I'm gonna be okay. Well, now, if I take the best.

  129. Part of me and I compare it to the best

  130. parts of you, I also understand that I am lacking,

  131. and it brings humility and spiritual confidence all at the

  132. same time. See, the reality is, even though legalism is

  133. not about coming to God and performing for our relationship,

  134. at the same thing, at the same time, our heart

  135. is more impacted through obedience than sacrifice.

  136. Our hearts are more impacted through obedience than they are

  137. through sacrifice.

  138. But for those outside the kingdom, obedience looks like sacrifice.

  139. If you were not.

  140. Inside the kingdom, obedience looks like sacrifice if somebody is

  141. standing outside the kingdom and they don't understand the goodness

  142. of God. For you to just simply be obedient in

  143. giving looks like sacrifice.

  144. Amen.

  145. For people outside the kingdom, for you to be obedient

  146. and show up every Sunday morning, some of you at

  147. eight am or before to be able to get ready

  148. seems like sacrifice.

  149. But for us, that's just simple obedience.

  150. And it's that relationship building portion where we don't do

  151. it to prove ourselves to God. But God has done

  152. so much and we owe him so much that it

  153. just simply spills out of us as an action and

  154. a response to his love. You know, Scripture is full

  155. of what I call if then blessings.

  156. If you do this, then God does that.

  157. If you do this, then God will do that full

  158. of them. For the beatitudes are full of these blessings

  159. that are formed in that way. In Matthew chapter five,

  160. verse five, it says, blessed or the meek, for they

  161. shall inherit the earth.

  162. Now listen. The Bible says, if your meek, you.

  163. Will inherit the earth. You know what it also says

  164. in that passage of scripture.

  165. If you're not, you won't right.

  166. If you have bridled power, power under control. That's what

  167. meekness means. It means power under control. If you are

  168. a person who has self restrain and self control, understanding

  169. the power of God, and you're focused and disciplined, and

  170. you move according to kingdom principles, you shall inherit the earth.

  171. That's what that passage of scripture says. And then it says,

  172. we'll keep going to verse six. Blessed are those who

  173. hunger and thirst for right righteousness, for they shall be filled.

  174. So if you hunger and.

  175. Thirst after righteousness, you'll be filled. If you don't, if

  176. you just have a casual, lackadaisical process of life.

  177. Then you won't be filled.

  178. Has nothing to do with your relationship with Jesus. Has

  179. nothing to do with how much he loves you, whether

  180. he's angry with you. Those things have nothing to do

  181. with how Jesus feels about you. He's simply putting systems

  182. in place that says, if this, then that, and you

  183. can participate in any number of those things you want

  184. to participate in, but you're certainly not bound to participate

  185. in any of them. Then he goes on and he says,

  186. blessed or the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. And

  187. we don't struggle with these We understand these things. Let

  188. me give you another one. Let's go to Matthew chapter six,

  189. starting in verse fourteen. For if you forgive men their trespasses,

  190. your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you

  191. do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your father

  192. forgive your trespasses.

  193. Forgiveness is a good thing. Say good.

  194. You gotta say it like that.

  195. Good forgiveness is a good thing.

  196. We all want to operate in forgiveness, so we learn

  197. to be forgiving people.

  198. I have more prayer crying.

  199. Sessions with people because they know they need to forgive

  200. somebody than probably anything else in the world. They know

  201. they've been hurt and they they won't forgiveness. They don't

  202. know how to get forgiveness, but they know they want

  203. to be forgiven, so they are trying to be forgiving people.

  204. Watch this have nothing to do with how much Jesus

  205. loves you. Nothing to do with how much Jesus loves you.

  206. These are all systems that God puts in place, and

  207. he says, hey, these are things you can participate in,

  208. and when you participate, there is a natural response from

  209. the Kingdom of God. Does that make sense? In other words,

  210. your kid cleans his room, you give him a fight

  211. dollar bill, inflation a twenty dollar bill.

  212. Right.

  213. One of my favorite scenes in any movie is Christmas

  214. vacation and the grandparents come in and she grabs a

  215. little boy and she says, if you'll rub my bion,

  216. I'll give you a whole quarter and I'll give.

  217. Your assystem and he's like a whole quarter inflation.

  218. We have to understand that the things in the kingdom

  219. have nothing to do with the ruler of the Kingdom.

  220. That Jesus can love you as much as he loves me,

  221. and me as much as he loves you, and we

  222. are at two different places because we have two different

  223. activation points.

  224. In the systems of the Kingdom.

  225. If you share your faith with people, people come to

  226. know Jesus.

  227. You store reward in heaven.

  228. If you have a prayer life that's active and fervent

  229. and thriving, sin becomes more detestable to you.

  230. There are just some things that when we do them,

  231. there is a natural kingdom response.

  232. The Old Testament law was designed to be punitive. New

  233. Testament law, or knew the New Testament is transformational. When

  234. we look at the Old Testament law, everything had an

  235. immediate consequence. If you do this, then this happens. If

  236. you do that, then that happens. And listen, there's some

  237. crazy ones. There's some crazy ones. There's one about if

  238. you invite people over to your home and after dinner

  239. they go to your roof. I mean, I've never had

  240. anybody come to my house and end up on the roof.

  241. First of all, okay, that's never happened, and my whole

  242. life has never happened. They go to your roof and

  243. they fall off and die. Because you don't have a

  244. parapat a rail, you don't have a rail around your roof,

  245. then you will be stormed because you're guilty of murder.

  246. That's one of the six fifteen. Baby, that's one of

  247. the six hundred and fifteen laws that we struggle over

  248. so much. Now here's the thing. I don't understand that

  249. because I don't.

  250. Go to my roof.

  251. I don't spend a.

  252. Lot of time up there, but if I did, even

  253. though that rule doesn't matter anymore, it's probably a good

  254. idea to have a rail. Amen, probably a pretty good

  255. practice for us to have a rail around the balcony.

  256. Y'all saw Lucas right, no rail concussion minimum. So when

  257. we look at these things there were, it was punitive.

  258. In the New Testament.

  259. However, now let me say this, six hundred and fifteen

  260. laws in the Old Testament. I'm gonna get to giving.

  261. I promise six hundred and fifteen laws in the Old Testament,

  262. and most of us rejoice because we think those things

  263. have been done away with.

  264. Did you know that there.

  265. Was six hundred and fifteen laws in the Old Testament.

  266. But Jesus gives over six hundred and fifty commands in

  267. the New Testament, not suggestions, commands. If God tells you

  268. to do something, you should. Sounds like a pretty staunch

  269. rule to me. And Jesus takes the things in the

  270. Old Covenant and he drives them deeper and makes them

  271. harder for us to attain. In the New Testament, he says, listen,

  272. you say don't murder. I say, don't even have it

  273. in your heart. You say, don't commit adultery. I say,

  274. don't even look at a woman with lust. You've already

  275. committed that sin as well. Jesus is serious about the

  276. way we live and what we.

  277. Do and the things that we interact.

  278. With, because he wants the best for us, and he

  279. puts these systems in place so that we can live

  280. our very best life. It's like carrying your kid to

  281. the Grand Canyon. You say, Okay, we're here's the greatest

  282. place on earth. Just go and do whatever you want

  283. to do. Nobody says that. Nobody says, just go what

  284. oh that trail, Yeah, try that trail. No, nobody does that.

  285. They go and they say, hey, you see.

  286. That rail right there, don't go over that rail. You

  287. see that trash can, don't go to the left of it.

  288. That trash can, don't go to.

  289. The right of it.

  290. That is safety, That is true freedom, because we have

  291. parameters set that say, as long as I'm operating in

  292. this I am safe and I can do whatever I

  293. want to do. Nobody is gonna get me. I'm not

  294. gonna end up at the bottom of the hole. Come on, somebody,

  295. I'm not gonna end up on a donkey trail going

  296. the wrong way. None of those things are gonna happen.

  297. I'm safe because somebody's watching over me, and they've given

  298. me the context of safety.

  299. That's why Jesus tells.

  300. Us to do things. Now, let's jump into giving. That

  301. wasn't my introduction.

  302. I'm almost done, so don't panic. Don't panic.

  303. In Malachi chapter three, verse ten, bring all the tithe

  304. into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house,

  305. and try me now in this, says the Lord of Hosts.

  306. I'm not open for you the windows of heaven and

  307. pour out for you such blessing that there will not

  308. be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke

  309. the devour for your sake, so that he will not

  310. destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine

  311. fail to bear fruit for you in the field, says

  312. the Lord of Hosts.

  313. Let's just stop reading right there now. Yeah. Did we

  314. go back to the Old Testament and pick this up?

  315. Yes?

  316. And here's why, because I.

  317. Need you to see the system that God put in

  318. place and what it says and what it doesn't say.

  319. Because this is just like anything else that we've talked.

  320. About you do not have to tithe.

  321. It was like I just sucked the wind out of

  322. the Did you feel that nobody was saying he backslid?

  323. You don't have to tithe.

  324. If you don't tithe, you can still go to heaven.

  325. Right, you can still be me, can inherit the earth?

  326. Come on. We don't like when we talk about what

  327. it really says. Sometimes do we?

  328. You don't have to do it, but when you do,

  329. but when you do, there is a system in place

  330. that if this, then that just like forgiveness, just like

  331. blessed or the meat. It's not legalism because we're not

  332. earning favor. We're not buying blessings because you can't. God's

  333. got all he needs. He don't need yours. You are

  334. entering a system that God established, Just like when you

  335. put a seed in the ground and a plant grows,

  336. that is a system that God established.

  337. If man has.

  338. To be involved in it, probably not something God established.

  339. Amen.

  340. So in other words, if you're born a boy and

  341. you don't wake up a girl with no man made

  342. intervention in between, you're a boy, Amen, That is not

  343. a God. That procedure is not God made. Right, there

  344. are some things that just are the way they are,

  345. and there are principles that are the way they are.

  346. Let's break it down. Put that put mallecou, put that

  347. back up on there.

  348. Just let me walk through it.

  349. I know the cameras are gonna say, you turns your back,

  350. but I won't turn my back. Bring all the tithe

  351. into the storehouse that there may be food in my house. Now,

  352. this is a direct reflection back to what the Tithe

  353. I did. It supported the levitical priesthood in the Old Testament.

  354. That's what the tithe did. It supported the levitical priesthood.

  355. That was the purpose of the tithe was to support

  356. the levitical priesthood. Jesus did away with that priesthood. He

  357. fulfilled that by becoming our high priest Amen. So now

  358. the things that Jesus does that is responsible for, is

  359. what now the Tithe supports. And try me now in

  360. this says the Lord of Hosts. We like to talk

  361. about that, but you know, just do it and if

  362. it works, it works pretty much. We say, that's the

  363. only place and it's the only place.

  364. That he writes it.

  365. But he says, hey, if you're merciful and you don't

  366. get mercy, you're probably gonna stop doing it anyway, right.

  367. We test God in every promise that he has when

  368. we put it in place. When we don't test God,

  369. it's when we ignore it and we know it's there,

  370. but we keep living the way we want to live.

  371. I did not mean for this to be that kind

  372. of message. Next, if I will not open for you

  373. the windows of heaven and pour out for you such

  374. a blessing that there will not be room enough to

  375. receive it, let's talk about that for a second, because

  376. what we've always been taught is that when we tithe,

  377. there's like naked babies wearing diapers and wings, just angel babies,

  378. and they swing open windows and they throw out hundreds

  379. and we.

  380. Catch them. There is no financial.

  381. There is no financial incre He's associated with hiving.

  382. This is all something else.

  383. When you look at the phrase the windows of heaven,

  384. it's only in the scriptures five times. The other four

  385. times it's mentioned in scripture, it is a direct reference

  386. to rain. God opened the windows of heaven at Noah's flood,

  387. he closed the windows of heaven. Then when the prophet

  388. proclaimed to drought, God shut the windows of heaven.

  389. And then he opened the windows of heaven.

  390. According to every rule of biblical interpretation, if it means

  391. that those other four times, it has to also mean

  392. this on the fifth time. This is speaking directly to

  393. a supernatural rain that falls into our life and prepares

  394. the ground of our heart and our life for the

  395. seeds that.

  396. Are planted in it to grow.

  397. It brings divine preparation for everything in.

  398. Our lives, more peace.

  399. More joy, more kindness, more fill in the blank.

  400. Does it also water the seeds on offering? Yess?

  401. Because God doesn't call tithing seed, He calls offerings seed.

  402. You don't have to tithe. But when you sow seed.

  403. You're sowing in dry ground. So just think about the

  404. things that grow in the desert. I don't want my

  405. life proliferated with cacti.

  406. You get in a sticky situation.

  407. Hey man, But I planned that joke and it just

  408. didn't land.

  409. Oh my gosh.

  410. Next, and I will rebuke the devir for your sakes.

  411. When I get in the system.

  412. If I do this, then this happens.

  413. I don't have to.

  414. Stand up and say, Devil, I rebuke you in the

  415. name of Jesus. Get far from me, Leave me. Jesus

  416. does it for us, He says, oh no, no, no, no, no,

  417. he's mine, he's marked, he's identified, he's chosen as a

  418. child of God. You need to give him some space

  419. and back off, because I got a plan and a

  420. destiny for him. So devil, give us some space because

  421. he's mine.

  422. If then.

  423. Still loves you, you can still go to heaven.

  424. It's just a system.

  425. You can ride a bicycle to work, you can drive

  426. a car to work.

  427. If then.

  428. Right, So that you will not destroy the fruit of

  429. your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit

  430. for you in the field. The things that I labor

  431. over and the things that I put my hand to

  432. will prosper and grow and create fruit in my life

  433. and in other people's lives, because there is a supernatural

  434. principle that where my treasure is there, my heart is also.

  435. And if my heart is deeply entrenched.

  436. With Jesus, then Jesus things spill out of my life.

  437. Pastor Clay, you guys can come and get ready. So

  438. here's the thing.

  439. I don't think the principle of tithing is legalistic in

  440. any way. And listen, if you find yourself in a

  441. place where you just absolutely.

  442. Cannot give.

  443. First of all, there's some deeper issues in your life.

  444. There's some other alignment that needs to happen, so you

  445. can get.

  446. To that place.

  447. Come on, now, there's another there's another principle that's not

  448. listed in scripture, but one that's very good, kind of

  449. like the parapat is a good idea, and it's called

  450. a budget.

  451. Amen.

  452. We all need safeguards and safety rails and parameters set

  453. so we can operate in safety. But the reality is is.

  454. When we add tithing to offerings.

  455. And the seed is planted in the ground and God

  456. sends the rain, it produces a harvest. Doesn't mean you

  457. can't get one without it, but it certainly does assure

  458. it with it.

  459. And it's just the systems that God put in place.

  460. We want God to be equitable.

  461. We want God to give everybody the same exact thing,

  462. but God doesn't give everybody the same exact thing. God

  463. gives everybody the same gospel and same scripture and the

  464. same opportunities to step into obedience because obedience brings transformation,

  465. and transformation leads to transformation.

  466. So you just have to decide in the area of giving.

  467. If then that's it.

  468. God's not angry God's not upset. I'm not angry.

  469. I'm not upset.

  470. But I want the best for you.

  471. I want spiritual alignment for your life. I want I

  472. want ob seem blessing to flow in your life. I

  473. want people to look and say, I want what Taylor

  474. Forester's got, I want what Taylor's got, I want I

  475. want what Corey's got. Man, I just want to I

  476. want to fall through a roof and break my ankle

  477. and smile about it.

  478. Later.

  479. We didn't listen to the audio part of the recording,

  480. just so you know when we saw that happen.

  481. But guys, stop coming to.

  482. God with a performance based mentality. It's not about performing

  483. for God. It's about God loving you and giving us

  484. the opportunities to step into these things so that we

  485. can see Kingdom principles.

  486. Happen in our lives.

  487. Kingdom systems lead to Kingdom principles, and then we're operating

  488. at a whole other level. You know, there's another kingdom principle.

  489. It's one that we have nothing to do with. It's

  490. the principle of redemption. We don't do anything.

  491. He did everything.

  492. That Jesus looked at our hearts.

  493. Broken and stained, and manipulated by sin, rebellious and contrarian every.

  494. Way, And instead of.

  495. Holding a count towards us, he shouldered the cross, and

  496. he walked those dusty streets of Jerusalem up go Gotha's hill,

  497. and he stretched himself out on the cross, and there,

  498. suspended between heaven and Earth, he whispered these words, it

  499. is finished. Everything they need to come to me is done.

  500. Freedom from sin done, restored relationship with the Holy God done.

  501. And all we do is receive it.

  502. That's it doesn't matter what you've done, doesn't matter how

  503. bad you think you've been, that, none of those things matter.

  504. All that matters is Jesus did it and is offering

  505. it to you.

  506. So every eye close and every head baut of the

  507. room for just a moment.

  508. You know, maybe today you've realized that you've just kind

  509. of seen God.

  510. You thought I had to do these things. You thought

  511. I had to You thought you had to be.

  512. This way and to attain this level for God to

  513. see you and to smile upon you.

  514. But for the first time, have you've just realized that

  515. all that.

  516. Guilt you've been feeling, it's because you've never come to

  517. Him on his terms. You've just fallen into his loving

  518. arms and ask him to forgive you, change you. But

  519. today you want to do that. Today you want Jesus

  520. to to meet you right there at your point of brokenness.

  521. And maybe you thought for a long time you've been

  522. operating under this this guys that that that that I'm

  523. saved because I do You're saved because of what he did.

  524. But today you want to you want to run into

  525. his arms, say save me, Jesus. I didn't realize you

  526. loved me just for who I am and my brokenness

  527. and my insecurities and my fears and my shame and

  528. my guilt and all of those things. I didn't realize

  529. that you just loved me. But today you want to

  530. experience that love. If that's you, slip up your head

  531. and say, that's my pastor. I want to come to him.

  532. I want to run into his arms, want him to

  533. grab me, change me, set me free, start me on

  534. my path towards destiny, Awaken those things on the inside

  535. of me. Wait just a moment, put your hand and

  536. put it right back down. If that's you, Amen, Amen, Amen,

  537. every eye open, everybody's staying with me all over the building.

  538. Passer clauts worshiped together, then we're gonna come and we're

  539. gonna receive communion together in just a moment. Ushers, you

  540. can go ahead and get ready to start serving if

  541. you want to. Pastor Claytess Worship
