  1. If you can. In Second Chronicles, chapter seven, in verse twelve,

  2. it says, then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night

  3. and said to him, I've heard your prayer, and if

  4. chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.

  5. When I shut up.

  6. Heaven and there's no rain or command the locusts to

  7. devour the land or send pestilence among the people.

  8. If my people who.

  9. Were called by my name, will humble themselves and pray

  10. and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,

  11. then I'll hear from heaven and forgive their sin and

  12. heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and

  13. my ear as attentive to the prayer maid in this place.

  14. Let's pray. Father, I thank you for your word. It's

  15. the only change agent on the face of the planet.

  16. And I pray today that you change us.

  17. At the very fabric of our.

  18. Being changes or we love you and we thank you

  19. in Jesus' name. Amen, Amen, and amen.

  20. I mean, if you're using the Church Center app you're

  21. we're only gonna preach a portion of this message today,

  22. so you'll just have to sort through and find out

  23. where the fill in the blanks are. Because I'm not

  24. gonna put them on the screen or anything. Uh, but

  25. you're you're smart people. You can figure it out. This

  26. passage of scripture we uh we often quote this as

  27. some kind of national or governmental reclamation that uh that

  28. if we, if we pray enough, that God's gonna do

  29. something corporately beyond us. But this is a specific promise

  30. to a specific people. This promise is to Israel, and

  31. this promise is not that God would deliver them from

  32. even invading forces, but that he would stop his wrath

  33. that was being poured out in times of correction.

  34. This promise is to a people who.

  35. Were drifting from God and were on a course that

  36. they were about to find themselves far from Him. And

  37. he said, hey, when these things happen, when I do this,

  38. and I do that, when I shut the windows of heaven,

  39. when I bring drought, when I bring the pestilence, when

  40. I do those things, then if my people who were

  41. called by my name will do these things, then I

  42. will do that. But the promise and the pattern is

  43. true for everybody. The promise the pattern for us to

  44. to find Jesus in the midst of our situation and

  45. circumstance remains true. Even though this is not written to

  46. us as gentiles. It's not written to America. Come on, somebody.

  47. It was written to people who were finding themselves in

  48. a place that they weren't comfortable with because they were

  49. not as close to God as they once had found themselves.

  50. And he says, here's the here's the process, and the

  51. order is important too. He says, first of all, my

  52. people who are called by my name. So he's not

  53. talking about the world. He's talking about us. So about

  54. the people called by his name, he says, first of all,

  55. if if they will humble themselves and pray, if they

  56. will humble themselves. You know, humility is a thing that

  57. most every person struggles with.

  58. It is a.

  59. And we even are prideful in our humility. Come on,

  60. if you can you even really be a humble person,

  61. if you recognize yourself as a humble person. But this

  62. whole idea of humbleness, of humility is not about the

  63. way we look or the way we talk. It's about

  64. our heart. It's about the posture of our heart. And

  65. the only way that we really access God is through humility. See,

  66. we come to God in all kinds of different ways,

  67. and all kinds of different postures. We've talked about worship

  68. posture and some of those things before, and you know,

  69. many times we come to we come to God in a.

  70. Very selfish posture where our hands are clinched because we're

  71. holding onto what's our and we refuse to give it

  72. to him, or we come to him in a very

  73. defiant posture where God, I just I don't even care

  74. if this is your plan, this is what I want

  75. to do, and bless God, You're gonna get behind me

  76. and you're gonna bless me.

  77. Don't look at me like that.

  78. You've all been there before.

  79. This is what I want, and God, I'm just letting

  80. you be part of it.

  81. Come on, now.

  82. We come to him in a in a surrender posture,

  83. we come to him in a receiving posture. We come

  84. to him in all these different postures. But the true

  85. posture that affects the way we communicate with God is humility.

  86. It's the thing that unlocks the rest of it, because

  87. in that moment when we realize that everything we are,

  88. everything we have, everything we can be, is completely dependent

  89. upon Him, it changes the us. See here's the thing

  90. about all those if then promises we've been talking about,

  91. and we think that that these are ways we purchase

  92. these things from God, that if we do this, then

  93. he does that. But the reality of almost every if

  94. then promise in scripture is the if changes us, so

  95. we can encounter the then. Let me say that again,

  96. y'all didn't shout quite loud enough for that it changes

  97. us the if if you do this, the doing this,

  98. the if that introduces us there changes us and transforms us.

  99. So when the so, when the then gets there, we

  100. have an encounter with the then, and we can recognize

  101. the then and we can receive the then because in

  102. our minds, the then looks different.

  103. In our minds.

  104. Standing on this side of it and standing in need,

  105. the then looks different because we think it's the answer

  106. to our problem.

  107. But the then may not be the answer.

  108. To our problem because our problem is probably a physical problem,

  109. and God works at the spirit level before it manifests

  110. at the natural level. He'll give you the power to

  111. go through it rather than taking you out of it.

  112. And it's all about posture, he says, humble yourself, not behavior.

  113. The heart condition that you come to God realizing that

  114. I'm completely dependent on Him for everything. He says, if

  115. you'll humble yourself and pray, listen. If you don't get

  116. the humble right, you're not gonna get the pray right.

  117. Prayer is performance without humility. It's the thing he criticized

  118. the hypocrites for.

  119. In the New ti Estament.

  120. He said, they stand on the street corners with the

  121. eloquent words, and they repeat themselves over and over again,

  122. and they do that for men to hear them. They

  123. had no humility, so their prayer was performative. But when

  124. we reach the place where prayer impacts us, when humility

  125. impacts our heart and shapes our heart, then our prayer

  126. is different because the prayer is the practice that follows

  127. the posture. When we've humbled ourselves, we have lined ourselves

  128. up with God's will. And when we line ourselves up

  129. with God's will and we pray according to God's will,

  130. then our communication is effective. Our communication works because we're

  131. already in alignment with the kingdom. So our posture leads

  132. to our practice. Then he says, and then seek my faith.

  133. This is one that that in my opinion, the American

  134. Church we've lost hold of.

  135. This one.

  136. We've we've lost contact.

  137. With with seeking because it's about pursuit.

  138. Seeking is not about lifted hands or the condition of

  139. the music being just right. It's about pursuit. It's about

  140. so many things. It's about the little things, it's about

  141. the big things, it's about all the things in between.

  142. It's about building a life that pursues God from the fabric,

  143. from from deep down in here, so that everything in

  144. our life is in pursuit of Him. When he says

  145. seek my face, he says, listen, don't just seek my miracles.

  146. But it's more than that.

  147. It's building our lives so that everything is built to entice.

  148. God into our moments, into those.

  149. Vacant pauses that lie so microscopically between each second that

  150. we miss them because our lives are moving. But every

  151. one of those brief pauses at the top of our heartbeat,

  152. in the bottom of our heartbeat, that little pause is

  153. meant to entice Jesus into our life. It's like when

  154. you first were chasing the person that you're married to,

  155. and everything come on.

  156. Now, I know for.

  157. Me, I put my hat on this way, put my

  158. hat on that way. I put it on sideway just

  159. to check make sure my shirt was okay. I'm make

  160. sure my pants were okay. I had a friend who

  161. would go through these elaborate scripting processes that he married

  162. the girl. I don't know how that happened, but he did.

  163. He'd go through these elaborate scripting processes and he would

  164. say something and it was branched off as she said this,

  165. and the conversation went here. If she said this, then

  166. the conversation went there. And he would talk to her

  167. and then he would say something, and I would watch

  168. this happened.

  169. I would watch this transpire.

  170. He's talking to her on the phone, and she would

  171. say something that was that. She would give a response

  172. that wasn't on the script.

  173. He'd hang up.

  174. I mean he hang up. He hung up on her

  175. so many times because it's like, well, I don't know

  176. what to do now. And then he would he'd regather himself.

  177. He would get out on other piece of paper, he

  178. would script some stuff that he'd bring it back to

  179. the script that he already had written.

  180. He come, he said, I don't know what happened. Did

  181. you hang up on me?

  182. She'd say, no, I didn't hang up on you.

  183. I didn't up on you.

  184. But he went through the process of making sure that

  185. everything was enticing, and that everything was right, and he

  186. was presenting himself in an attractive way because that was

  187. the object of his heart.

  188. Is Jesus the object of your heart?

  189. If he spoke to you right now like he did

  190. the rich young ruler, so we'd like to read those stories, right,

  191. but we don't want to be those stories.

  192. Amen.

  193. If he looked at you like the rich young ruler

  194. and said, sell everything you have and give it away,

  195. is he.

  196. Still the heartbeat of your life?

  197. If he told you to live in a tent? Is

  198. he still the heartbeat of your life? Are those pauses

  199. still built to entice him into your life?

  200. Because it's not just the posture and the practice. Those

  201. things lead to the pursuit.

  202. If we can ever really find ourselves saying Jesus, I

  203. have to have you and nothing else, and then we

  204. begin to communicate and we practice that humility in our

  205. conversations with God, it leads.

  206. Us to the pursuit.

  207. Those pauses begin to be more real, and suddenly we

  208. find ourselves and we wake up with a hunger for God.

  209. Did you know that.

  210. Every major move of God starts with a reckless hunger

  211. for Jesus.

  212. All throughout scripture.

  213. There were a few people that gathered together, hungry for

  214. more of God, nothing else. Dinner didn't matter, whatever's on TV.

  215. I was gonna name something on TV, but we literally

  216. turned our television off.

  217. But now I still have Netflix. I'm not that holy.

  218. Come on, somebody, I mean, you still gotta watch Chicago PD.

  219. All of these things get in front of Jesus. Those

  220. things are not wrong. They're wrong if they're filling the

  221. space that is designed to seek him. Then he says, listen,

  222. if those people that are called by my name, they'll

  223. humble themselves, if they'll pray, if they'll if they'll seek

  224. my face and turn from their wicked ways, if.

  225. They'll if they'll pivot, if they'll pivot their lives.

  226. You know, when we when we're in pursuit of Jesus,

  227. everything is about him. You can't run towards Jesus if

  228. you're running towards the things he hates.

  229. You have to pivot.

  230. In those moments where that pursuit leads to encounter and

  231. he shows the wickedness of our hearts, we pivot.

  232. It's what repentants means.

  233. It doesn't mean, and somehow we've confused it because it's easier.

  234. Somehow we think repentance is to come to the altar

  235. and say I'm sorry. But that's not repentance. That's not

  236. scriptural repentance. It's not any kind of repentance. Repentance requires

  237. a change of direction. Repentance is say, Lord, I recognize

  238. that I've broken your heart. But then it's putting the

  239. things in place that I turn and move away from

  240. that thing that had my heart. It's cutting the internet

  241. off your phone, it's moving it into the living room

  242. so everybody can see what you're looking at. It's transparency

  243. in all of your interactions. It's being honest and not

  244. having somebody that you've become emotionally dependent upon at work

  245. instead of the person that's at home waiting for you.

  246. It's all of those things that's pivoting and turning from

  247. those things and moving back in the.

  248. Direction that Jesus is.

  249. And when we do those things, he says, and then

  250. I will hear from heaven and I will heal their land.

  251. But what Jesus is saying to us today is that

  252. when you do those things, I will hear when your

  253. posture is right and the practice is happening when those

  254. things are in alignment and I reach the place of

  255. pursuit where my life is about him. And listen, I

  256. know some of you are sitting there thinking right now,

  257. that's easy for you, pastor, because you get paid to

  258. be at church.

  259. Oh, if all I.

  260. Had to do was preach for an hour and pray,

  261. I could do that too. I want to do a

  262. reality series one day, one week. It'll be like twenty episodes,

  263. and just let you see that. I experience the same

  264. things you do every single week. And I don't just

  265. experience the same things you do every single week. I

  266. experience the things you experience every single week too. I

  267. deal with my junk and your junk. I go home

  268. every Sunday feeling like a failure. I wake up every

  269. Monday morning and I resign. Y'all are laughing, Clay, is

  270. it not truth? I hadn't turned the letter in yet,

  271. but in my heart I resigned. Usually by lunch, things

  272. have worked themselves out and I'm.

  273. Back on the path.

  274. Some days it takes till two, but usually those things

  275. work out that way.

  276. But here's the thing.

  277. My job probably does position me a little bit differently

  278. than yours. Because if if he doesn't show up. Things

  279. just don't work. If he doesn't show up when I

  280. stand up here to speak, nothing works. If he doesn't

  281. show up when the band sings, nothing works.

  282. If he doesn't show up.

  283. At offering time, we don't pay the power bill. If

  284. he doesn't show up in the altars, then people go

  285. somewhere where he does show up in the altars, and

  286. we become dependent on him because the output is designed

  287. for our dependency. But I want you to understand that

  288. no matter what your job is, it is dependent on

  289. the output of the kingdom. That if you're working on

  290. an assembly line, every part you assemble is dependent on him,

  291. because your job security rests in him, your raise rests

  292. in him, Everything that you are rests in him. So

  293. if we align ourselves with the right posture dependent on him,

  294. that our lives become an explosion of the miraculous band.

  295. Come and get ready and at the moment, but look

  296. at me, don't watch the band, look at me. I mean,

  297. we're gonna have to get him to come straight up

  298. out of the floor. As soon as they start walking

  299. up here, y'all all just watch them, because when you

  300. are in alignment the moment, those troubling things happen. The

  301. pivot is automatic, that we so live in communion.

  302. With God.

  303. That the presence of evil feels wrong.

  304. We feel often.

  305. Out of batalance, and our prayers no longer. Don't let

  306. anybody find out our prayer is now, Oh my gosh,

  307. why is that in my brain? And I turn immediately

  308. and I'm back in pursuit.

  309. That leads to prayer.

  310. That leads to humility, and then I turn in my

  311. humility that.

  312. Leads to prayer that leads to pursuit. It's a cycle

  313. we find ourselves in because we're not the important part

  314. of the story is. And maybe you're here today and

  315. you just feel off.

  316. You feel like there's a tire out of balance.

  317. It's just not smooth. Things are just not flowing in

  318. the peace of God.

  319. Right now, ask yourself, have I embraced humility? Is everything

  320. depended on Jesus? Do I come to him out of

  321. that dependence? Listen, if you're drowning, it doesn't matter what

  322. the boat looks like.

  323. I depended on him.

  324. My life built to entice him. Or do I say, Jesus,

  325. you stay in the truck. I got to go in

  326. here and do something. Maybe you're here and you've got

  327. something going on, feel a little bit of a separation.

  328. Because there's sin in your life. You begin to think things,

  329. do things. You're hiding things you don't need to hide

  330. because there's something underneath that has to be hidden. Every

  331. head bowed in, every eye closed.

  332. It's a hard altar call right now.

  333. If you're here, they just say, Pastor, I got some

  334. things in my life that I need to work pet off,

  335. I have sin in my life and I need.

  336. To get free from it.

  337. The fact you just slip up your hand and say,

  338. that's the pastor, I got some things I need to

  339. be set free from its. Nobody else open your eyes. Everybody,

  340. keep your eyes closed. Everybody, keep your eyes closed. It's

  341. not your businesses.

  342. Put your hand up, put it right back down, and

  343. that's me, bastard. Amen.

  344. Amen, somebody else, put your hand up, put it right

  345. back down.

  346. Come on, do the hard thing this morning, Do the

  347. hard work this morning.

  348. Hand up, right back down. I want to go ahead

  349. and tell you I'm not calling you to the front.

  350. If that helps you, put your hand up, put it

  351. right back down.

  352. Amen.

  353. Every eye open, every head looking around, pray this prayer

  354. will be saying gee.

  355. Jesus, Jesus, my King, my Savior. I'm sorry I have

  356. fallen short.

  357. Meet me here.

  358. At my point of need. Wash me clean and give

  359. me the strength to pivot.

  360. And run away.

  361. From the thing that has me bound, because that's the

  362. direction you are.

  363. And that's what I desire.

  364. I love you, Lord. I'm gonna make room for you.

  365. I invite you in Fill my life. Fill my life, Yeah,

  366. fill my life, and Jesus, Amen, amen and amen.

  367. Listen.

  368. This is baptism Sunday. We didn't have anybody that signed up,

  369. but the band's gonna sing. We're gonna worship together. If

  370. you feel like you need to be baptized today, I'm

  371. gonna stand down here about the pool.

  372. You come on a past.

  373. Clay's gonna come help me, just in case, you know,

  374. somebody's big as me and I can't get y'all down

  375. and back up by myself. Aasha, Clay's gonna come down

  376. and he's gonna stay with me, and we'll baptize you today.

  377. No questions asked except are you saved? Because I believe

  378. Jesus got a special plan for you. Everybody's staying with

  379. me all over the building
