  1. Because we are talking about church functions. We're continuing our

  2. series this morning. This is week number three of church functions,

  3. and that's a church function right there, listen. Not the

  4. method is that we have people come up on the

  5. stage and we pray, and we lay hands and we

  6. do the rose and the Bible. But the function is

  7. the church takes care of families. The church dedicates children

  8. to help them on their way to be who God

  9. has called.

  10. Them to be.

  11. Is a very powerful thing that we do. Everything that

  12. we come together and do in that way is huge

  13. because it's part of who we are. And so I

  14. can't think of a better way for us to begin

  15. this morning talking about church functions by doing that. You know,

  16. in the first two weeks we spend a lot of

  17. times talking about identity, about what the church is and

  18. what it's based on, and how we are are born

  19. out of Christ's true identity, the son of the Living God,

  20. established his church and builds his church. We talked about

  21. last week our primary function holding the keys of the kingdom.

  22. If you weren't here, that's okay, we're catching up right now.

  23. Keys of the Kingdom, how we have an immense authority

  24. and responsibility as the church. And we cannot overstate this.

  25. I think that we could preach those sermons over and

  26. over and over and never fully be able to get

  27. it all the way through our heads. How big of

  28. a deal it is that we hold the keys of

  29. the kingdom, that we are God's plan to reach the world.

  30. If the Lord was going to do it without us,

  31. he would already have done it. He called us to

  32. this time and builds us for this purpose. And if

  33. the church doesn't do this, we are forsaking the reason

  34. we exist. And like I said last week, I don't

  35. want that on my ledger. I don't want that on

  36. our ledger. I don't want us to forsake the reason

  37. we exist because the truth is. A church that doesn't

  38. share the gospel is not a church.

  39. I came to preach this morning. I don't know. I

  40. don't know about you, but I came to hear the

  41. word of the Lord.

  42. Disciples that don't reproduce are not disciples. They often turn

  43. into zealots, radicals, people who don't actually spread the truth.

  44. Disciples that reproduce and make more disciples are for real.

  45. But while we function that way primarily as the church,

  46. we don't function that way exclusively. We do things like

  47. we did today, helping families in these big moments, center

  48. it on the Lord, praying for them, supporting them. There

  49. are these supporting functions that help the church maintain her integrity.

  50. They maintain her adaptability. Because the world changes. We've got

  51. to adapt, not on the truth, not away from the truth,

  52. but adapt in our method, and.

  53. We got to make sure we stay healthy.

  54. We refer to and scripture refers to the Body of Christ.

  55. We are the body of Christ, and a body has

  56. to do the work. The body has to work to

  57. get the job done. We have to do that primary function,

  58. reconciliation to the world, allowing them in by giving them

  59. the truth of the Son of the Living God, that

  60. they might be saved and enter the kingdom.

  61. We got to do that job.

  62. But the body can't ignore eating, you can't ignore its resting,

  63. you can't ignore exercising, so on and so forth, just

  64. like our physical body. That example is really perfect because

  65. while we're built to do the job, we cannot do

  66. the job unless we stay healthy. So let's look at

  67. a passage this morning that makes this really clear. It's

  68. not too far from where we began. Turn with me

  69. to Matthew chapter eighteen. If you've been here the last

  70. two weeks, so if you've listened online with the last

  71. two weeks, we spend all our time in Matthew chapter sixteen,

  72. which is where Jesus first uses that word church for

  73. the very first time, and for one of only two

  74. times that he uses it in all of the Gospels.

  75. The second place he uses it is here in Matthew

  76. chapter eighteen. We're going to start in verse sixteen. It

  77. says this the words of Jesus. Now, if your brother sins,

  78. go and show him his fault in private. If he

  79. listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he

  80. does not listen to you, take one or two more

  81. with you, so that on the testimony of two or

  82. three witnesses every matter may be confirmed. And if he

  83. refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church.

  84. And if he refuses to listen even to the Church,

  85. he is to be to you as a gentile and

  86. a tax collector. Truly, I say to you this should

  87. sound familiar. Tickle your ears. Whatever you bind on earth

  88. shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose

  89. on earth shall have been loosed in heaven, Verse nineteen. Again,

  90. I say to you that if two of you agree

  91. on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall

  92. be done for them by my Father, who is in heaven.

  93. For where two or three have got together in my name,

  94. I am there in their midst. Let's pray Father. I

  95. thank you for your word. Lord, I thank you for

  96. speaking to us in read words, read letters directly powerfully.

  97. I pray Lord that you help us to understand what

  98. you've said here in this passage today in a way

  99. that we've never understood it before. Not some new theology,

  100. not some new doctrine, but Lord, that we truly understand

  101. what you intended by this, that we might function and

  102. live as the church you are calling us to.

  103. Be, that you are building us to be.

  104. Speak to us, Lord, help us to receive it and

  105. apply it in Jesus' name, Amen and amen. On this

  106. first reading of this scripture, there's some things we should

  107. immediately notice.

  108. As we're in week three of the series.

  109. We spend all that time over in chapter sixteen, and

  110. what happens after chapter sixteen in each of those gospels,

  111. the same order of events goes by the transfiguration, probably.

  112. The greatest display of God's power and glory.

  113. To that point, we see that they go and they

  114. come down the mountain and they can't cast out the demon.

  115. So Jesus cast the demon out a miracle, a deliverance,

  116. and then him and Peter have another conversation about paying taxes.

  117. So I just want to point this out because I

  118. think that it's really interesting the way Scripture ties these

  119. huge events that are like one time and to be

  120. remembered and thought of as this great event forever, and

  121. then also right next to it, Jesus talks about paying taxes.

  122. If that doesn't tell you that the God of the

  123. universe is in your business, down to the small all

  124. this detail, I don't know what does he cares for you.

  125. He cares about these things.

  126. So Jesus, just in the way he lives, in the

  127. way he acts the events that go by, he is

  128. showing us how he's God with us.

  129. Different sermon, I guess, But we see this at this point.

  130. Now after these miracles, he's teaching the disciples once again,

  131. but the context.

  132. Of the conversation is different.

  133. In chapter sixteen, it was outward ministry of reconciliation. Outward,

  134. you hold the keys of the kingdom, you go and

  135. do it and let them in. But here in chapter eighteen,

  136. the context is inward. It's toward one another. That's why

  137. I call that the primary function. This would be a

  138. secondary function, not an importance necessarily, but in order. The

  139. whole of Matthew eighteen up to this point has been

  140. Jesus responding to a question.

  141. In sixteen he asked the questions.

  142. In eighteen, he responds to a question the disciples, having

  143. witnessed all those miracles since chapter sixteen, they ask him

  144. who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. They

  145. ask him this question that when we read it, we think, well,

  146. how could they possibly be thinking of that? He just

  147. told them that they would hold the keys of the kingdom,

  148. And yet they ask, but who's the greatest?

  149. Who's the best? Now?

  150. If that maybe that doesn't hurt you the way it

  151. hurts me, because when I hear that question asked, I

  152. hear myself. You see, they're more concerned with status than

  153. they are the mission. They seem to care more about

  154. being perceived rather than perceiving. And I want to tell

  155. you this morning, this is one of those moments where

  156. we make the mistake of reading scripture and we go,

  157. can you believe that?

  158. Look at those disciples. A few of.

  159. Them just witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus. Okay, they heard

  160. the Father speak on the mountain, they saw him be

  161. changed clothed in light. How could they ask who's the great?

  162. Why are they're concerned about themselves? They're so ridiculous. They

  163. just don't get it. Many times we approach scripture and

  164. we fail to acknowledge that God reveals the mistakes and

  165. messes of people, not so we can look down on them,

  166. but so we can see ourselves. You see, God doesn't

  167. reveal these mistakes in scripture for us to feel better

  168. because we're in the future. He actually reveals them as

  169. a mirror that we might see what we do. So often,

  170. those who mess up in scripture, they're not lesser, They're

  171. a reflection. That's a different sermon too, but that's for

  172. free at any rate. Here Jesus is correcting them. And

  173. when we say them, we need to hear us with

  174. the instruction to become like children. They ask who's the

  175. greatest in the kingdom, and he says, he brings a

  176. kid as an illustration, He.

  177. Says, he says you got to become like this.

  178. He's not telling them that they need a reduction in maturity,

  179. but rather a reduction in the restrictive beliefs, the biases,

  180. the boneheadedness that most adult human beings have developed.

  181. And hold on to.

  182. Oh, I know that's not fun, that's not hooting and

  183. holler and preaching. But I'm telling you it's for real.

  184. Did you know that being set in your ways is

  185. not a badge of honor? That's probably a different sermon too.

  186. One day we'll go there.

  187. But the undertones of this teaching are not about individuality.

  188. They're about taking care of each other.

  189. Unity is the concept that comes to mind when you

  190. read Matthew chapter eighteen. You start to see this concept

  191. of unity being together. Jesus acknowledges that the Father desires

  192. for those in the fold to remain in the fold.

  193. So why he tells that parable the lost sheep, And

  194. we all think of it and know it, and we

  195. talk about it deeply concerned with the one that goes

  196. astray to come back in.

  197. See church function.

  198. It's not about just coming together, it's about staying together.

  199. And staying together is not a passive issue. It's not

  200. something that happens automatically. So right out of this parable

  201. the lost Sheep, Jesus speaks what we just read this passage,

  202. we have and focused, and he confirms right here lest

  203. there was any doubt that there will be problems in

  204. the church, so let's take that off our shoulders, off

  205. the plate completely. There is no perfection expected. In fact,

  206. problems are confirmed to happen, and so Jesus gives us

  207. a process to handle them. And I don't mean problems

  208. like disputes about carpet color or music volume. Probably a

  209. different sermon, maybe not even worth it. The problems that

  210. he's talking about here are matters of sin that lead

  211. to disunity, that lead to splintering. Notice that Jesus says,

  212. if your brother sins, this is about somebody who's in

  213. the fold. This is somebody who's part of the family.

  214. This is somebody who is in the kingdom. If your

  215. brother sins, Remember this is not about preferences. It's not

  216. about the things that we perceive to be right and wrong.

  217. It's based on what's in scripture. The baseline for what

  218. sin is is according to God's word, and it should

  219. be understood a boy God's church because we have the

  220. authority to call it out and make it right. So

  221. that outward ministry of reconciliation that we talked about last

  222. week describes here in Matthew eighteen, Jesus is describing it

  223. actually within the church, that now this is not just

  224. reconciliation beyond, it's reconciliation within.

  225. That it has to happen in both places.

  226. Each person, though belonging to the greater body, still maintains

  227. a level of personal responsibility. Remember we talked about authority

  228. and responsibility, and they always go together. There's no way

  229. to separate those things. If you want authority, you must

  230. accept responsibility. That's true corporately as the Body of Christ,

  231. as the Church, that's true of Cornerstone as a church,

  232. and that's true of you as a disciple. If you

  233. want to walk in authority, you must shoulder the responsibility.

  234. Jesus says that we have this responsibility to one another

  235. to reconcile, that if things get messed up, we gotta

  236. make it right.

  237. Go show him his fault in private.

  238. Jesus says that should let you know right from the

  239. get go from the junk. Jesus wastes no time in

  240. this passage why I love it so much.

  241. He wastes no time. There's no dancing around it.

  242. From the beginning, he says, standard practice is to avoid

  243. shame and humiliation.

  244. Guys, there are whole churches.

  245. And denominations, entire groups of people that should be holding

  246. the keys of the kingdom who have splintered because they

  247. think church discipline is about shame and humiliation.

  248. It's not.

  249. Right here, Jesus says, go in private, one on one.

  250. The point is not to make sure the sinning brother

  251. feels as bad as possible about the sin. It's not

  252. to gain the moral high ground. Hey, brother, you're in

  253. sin and I'm not. And I'm coming to you privately,

  254. and guess what If you don't accept what I'm telling

  255. you privately, I'm going to tell two other people and

  256. guess what, you don't listen to them. We're giggling, but

  257. it's happening. So it's certainly not to splinter the church.

  258. Because again, all this teaching up to now is about unity.

  259. So what is Jesus saying, Well, he tells us very clearly.

  260. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.

  261. The point is not shame humiliation. The point is not

  262. to make them feel so bad that they repent. The

  263. point is to gain them back, and Jesus thankfully acknowledges.

  264. But this doesn't always go according to plan.

  265. Don't you love it when Jesus just he's just so real,

  266. He's like, hey, guess what.

  267. Sometimes that's not gonna work at all.

  268. And there are times that God speaks to us that

  269. way in scripture, and then he doesn't give us a

  270. next step, but Jesus gives us a next step right here,

  271. playing his day, taking one or two more. It gives

  272. further credibility to the correction, because the goal is to

  273. gain the brother back. It's not to give credibility to

  274. the person calling it out. Is to give credibility to

  275. the correction of the sin. You see, it's not about building.

  276. That person up.

  277. It's about maintaining unity and reconciliation within the church.

  278. And we got to take a moment. Let's quick quick

  279. time out.

  280. Okay, we're gonna get right back to our scheduled programming here,

  281. but I gotta I gotta just stay right here for

  282. just a moment, because again, this has destroyed so many

  283. communities because this process is misunderstood. So time out, you

  284. cannot do this because I know there's some people here,

  285. maybe hopefully not but maybe online.

  286. Maybe you're thinking, you know what, I've.

  287. Been meaning to talk to so and so about that,

  288. And actually the last time I talked to him we

  289. were one on one. I think I probably should go

  290. get a few more people. Maybe we just make that

  291. right today, this afternoon.

  292. Time out.

  293. You can't do this with people you don't do real

  294. life with. If the relationship is not there, you are

  295. going to find yourself in a church fight and not

  296. a church function. Again, your brother is not about blood,

  297. and it's not about gender. It's about the depth of relationship.

  298. That's what he means. If your brother somebody you're in

  299. this thing with, to speak and meet with somebody privately,

  300. that takes a level of trust. You can't just go

  301. and just try to get anybody in the room with

  302. you to talk.

  303. There's a.

  304. We don't even have time to explain how many different

  305. ways that can go badly.

  306. Okay.

  307. Trust in those interpersonal relationships is also not automatic. Trust

  308. is established over time. It means you have to live

  309. life together in order for this to work. To go

  310. and take one or two others to revisit the same

  311. situation after that one on one has failed.

  312. It means there has to be trust in all of

  313. those parties.

  314. You can't call it out and go get a couple

  315. yes men to come up. That's like being jumped by

  316. a gang. When's the last time being jumped by a

  317. gang led to reconciliation? Far as I can see, tragically,

  318. it only leads to more bloodshed.

  319. And so.

  320. Perhaps that's not the proper order of action within the church.

  321. Not to shed the blood's already been shed. We don't

  322. need to shed each others. Jesus gave these instructions with

  323. that earlier teaching in mind about unity, about being childlike.

  324. You are not to do this internal function of reconciliation

  325. without knowing your place, and you've got to operate from

  326. that place. Potentially a different sermon time in.

  327. Here we go. If the second effort fails, so we

  328. get the people we trust in the room.

  329. It's not working out. There's still no repentance here. It's

  330. not going the way it should. Jesus directs the process

  331. to go beyond individuals to the institution. Why because the

  332. church was given the keys. The church holds the authority,

  333. so they have the responsibility it's not so the gathered

  334. believers can stone the siner. Thankfully we left that behind,

  335. or I probably would not be standing here before you.

  336. Not so the center will come and be humiliated and

  337. turned out and then end up church hurt.

  338. I don't know if y'all want this or not what

  339. I'm telling you. I'm telling you the.

  340. Last step is the church, because this authority and responsibility

  341. that Christ has given us matters. The Church functions according

  342. to His design on that foundation of His identity. And

  343. then we have the ability to help bring clarity to

  344. the fault, clarity to the sin, clarity to the problem,

  345. so that it leads to restoration and reconciliation.

  346. Remember the keys.

  347. Well, what if that doesn't work, The Lord Jesus is

  348. gracious enough to keep speaking. He tells us the truth,

  349. and we would do really well. Church, to keep this

  350. in mind always. If you get nothing else from today,

  351. I want you just to start living your life with

  352. Christ with this in mind, that the Church, in all

  353. of her authority and all of her responsibility, is an

  354. unstoppable force that breaks the gates of hell. You can

  355. clap because the second part is coming. That's amazing. Yes, yes,

  356. it's an unstoppable force.

  357. But we are not an institution of force.

  358. You cannot force somebody to love, You cannot force someone

  359. to repent. If you're like, well you ain't seen me, tripastor,

  360. I don't need to, because even the almighty God of

  361. Ages could have and chose not to. If he was

  362. going to force it, it would be done.

  363. What is that to him?

  364. But he chose not to because it's not real love

  365. and it's not real repentance unless it is chosen.

  366. So what does this look like practically? Okay, you tell me,

  367. Pastor Clay.

  368. So we got to handle these problems when they arise, right,

  369. and there's a proper way to do it, and we

  370. got to do life together. Yeah, I'm on board. Well,

  371. what does this look like when it gets to the

  372. church step? Do we just parade all the sinning brothers

  373. up to the front and let the congregation judge like

  374. a jury.

  375. No, not at cornerstone.

  376. At least maybe some places that's happening, But that's not

  377. the way we do it.

  378. Now.

  379. I believe this is actually one of those areas in

  380. scripture where we have to make another distinction. We have

  381. to look between function and method. What that means is.

  382. This is a church function. These things do have to

  383. be handled, and if it gets to the point where

  384. the church has to be involved, we must. But the

  385. method can be different. There are places where a large

  386. meeting with everybody in the church to hammer these things

  387. out and make it right. It works. They're a place

  388. where that works. That's the method. The church must be involved.

  389. The way the church involved, that's what looks That's how

  390. it looks different.

  391. For other churches.

  392. Maybe it's meeting with the pastor or a group of pastors,

  393. or a small group or other church leadership to give

  394. that insight in wisdom and direction. Maybe it comes up

  395. in groups, maybe it comes up on your team.

  396. Gee, I don't know.

  397. Maybe we're not giving God the opportunity to let these

  398. things work out because we haven't taken the step to

  399. get involved enough.

  400. First two sermons real fun. This one hurts, huh.

  401. But we can't get caught up in the method here

  402. because Jesus doesn't either. You'd think he's been so forthcoming

  403. in this passage. You would think at this point he

  404. probably would say, Okay, so here's how you do that,

  405. here's the details.

  406. But he doesn't. He keeps going.

  407. What he does tell us is how to respond if

  408. this step also fails, he is to be to you

  409. as a gentile and a tax collector. So all that

  410. we've been through, all the steps, it doesn't work, senning

  411. brother remains or sister remains, unrepentant gentile tax collector. It's

  412. a it's a very specific archetype of person. Consider.

  413. Let's step back there, put our put our.

  414. Disciples shoes on, okay, and imagine what this would have

  415. sounded like to the Jewish.

  416. Disciples of Christ.

  417. If this doesn't work, guys, treat him like a gentile

  418. and a tax collector.

  419. To us, that made me one thing.

  420. To the Jewish disciples of Christ in the first century,

  421. that would have been like yikes. A gentile was an outsider,

  422. someone who was not part of the people of God,

  423. who did not understand or order their life according to

  424. the law. A first century tax collector. Do you actually

  425. know when we read tax collector in the scripture in

  426. the New Testament, what they're referring to. Most often it

  427. was a Jewish man who worked for the Roman Empire

  428. to take taxes from his neighbors for the invading empire,

  429. not a person that had a good reputation a crook,

  430. many thought, a trader. So an outsider and a trader.

  431. That's how you treat this person who is unrepentant. And

  432. yet neither of those things are beyond saving. Jesus called

  433. a tax collector to be one of the twelve. You

  434. know his name, Matthew. Jesus appeared to Paul and made

  435. him the apostle to the gentiles.

  436. And it worked out.

  437. Because I'm standing before you a gentile. The enduring Church

  438. of Jesus Christ born through that. So essentially Jesus instructs

  439. Us to treat the unrepentant brother as though he were

  440. just that unrepentant and therefore lost. What is the father

  441. concerned with? In the parable right before this, what happened

  442. to the sheep?

  443. It was lost. So what Jesus is.

  444. Saying is not, okay, you try to talk to him.

  445. You've got several other people. Everybody trust each other. You

  446. worked it out, didn't work, took it to the church.

  447. They didn't respond to the authority and responsibility of the church.

  448. So now give up on them.

  449. No, he says, treat them the way you treat the lost,

  450. which is to say they can be found, which is

  451. to say that you hold the keys of the kingdom.

  452. Do everything you can to maintain the unity. But if

  453. it doesn't work, do your job. That's why we exist.

  454. The bank can get ready. As we close today. I

  455. want to focus in on these last three verses because

  456. it's right here. After he says, treat him as a gentile,

  457. as a tax collector, one who is lost, one who

  458. needs me, one who needs the truth and the way

  459. back to life, he repeats that famous binding and loosing

  460. scripture that we spent so much time with last week.

  461. And the truth is this, it is up to the

  462. Church to permit and to forbid. You have the keys,

  463. whether people gain access to the Kingdom of heaven, it

  464. is dependent upon our willingness to be the church, upon

  465. our willingness to function.

  466. In every way properly. That's a heavy burden.

  467. And Jesus repeats that same language binding, loosing, permitting, forbidding.

  468. He repeats it the same way here as he did

  469. in chapter sixteen, to remind us that this function of unity,

  470. maintaining unity, is tied to the primary function. It's tied

  471. to the ministry of reconciliation to the world beyond. Just

  472. like before, this function can't be carried out without the

  473. authority that Jesus has given us. And I find it

  474. kind of interesting that here in chapter eighteen he adds

  475. to that.

  476. We would think, right, the.

  477. Ministry of reconciliation to the world, you got to go

  478. out into the world and be my disciples and make disciples.

  479. That's a huge, big picture, right.

  480. You would think that would get more detail, But Church

  481. Jesus adds more detail when he's talking about us dealing

  482. with each other.

  483. I think that should tell us something.

  484. Yeah, our responsibility is tied to the authority that comes

  485. with the keys. We gotta go win souls, reach the lost.

  486. But you know, there's a lot of people that do that.

  487. But can't do this. And I don't mean preaching. I'm

  488. saying they can't do the interpersonal. This is the part

  489. he adds detailed to because this is actually more difficult.

  490. It's easy for me to tell somebody the Lord died

  491. for you, the one who knew no sin, became sin

  492. and then was raised to life, that you might have

  493. life and have it more abundantly, that you might live

  494. with purpose, and that you might go and be with

  495. Him in eternity.

  496. But when there's fault in my brother.

  497. When there's trouble inside the house, it's almost like we

  498. lose the words for it.

  499. That's harder to deal with. So Jesus gives us more

  500. praise God.

  501. After explaining how to deal with each other, he explains

  502. that when we are together, not just physically, although physically

  503. is important. I have one more week in this series.

  504. We're going there. But when we are together in one accord,

  505. bound in heart and in mission and in focus. When

  506. we do that, we ask the Father and it will

  507. be given.

  508. It's a promise. But if I can turn it on

  509. its head just a minute, because I know we start.

  510. Thinking, well, okay, well I asked for that, and I'm

  511. doing all that, pastor, and I didn't get what I

  512. asked for.

  513. The unity within the body of Christ.

  514. It doesn't just give you unlimited wishes to the Father.

  515. While I'm in unity with my brothers and sisters.

  516. I got.

  517. I got wish upon wish upon wish upon wish, and

  518. it's granted. No, what the unity actually does when we

  519. are the church that Christ is building, the unity actually

  520. informs what we ask for.

  521. It makes the Father's desires our desires. That's why it's guaranteed.

  522. And it's a promise because you start asking for the

  523. right things and they come to pass because the Father

  524. already desires them. He was just waiting on you to

  525. get involved. So this is not a stumbling block. I

  526. want it to be clear. When we ask for what

  527. the Father desires, it will come to pass. And here's

  528. a hint. It's about reconciliation. It's what he desires for you,

  529. for the world between each other. It's all reconciliation. It's

  530. when we are gathered under the banner of who Jesus is.

  531. And that's what he means by his name. By the way, it's.

  532. Not just oh, we're gathered today in the name of Jesus.

  533. You can say that anywhere at any time, right, But

  534. there are many places we could gather and say that,

  535. and it really wouldn't be true. Gathering in his name

  536. means we are gathered under the banner of who He

  537. is for the purposes that he has built us for.

  538. So when we gather in that way, we can be

  539. confident that He is with us.

  540. That's the promise.

  541. That's where our authority is established, that's where our responsibility

  542. is understood. That is where our functions can be carried

  543. out if you'd stay with me all over the house.

  544. We're gonna worship here in just a second. But perhaps

  545. you're thinking, Paster Clay, I hear you. But that's a

  546. whole life for me to handle. I don't even know

  547. how to begin doing these things you're talking about. It

  548. was enough you said we had to go and do

  549. the work of reconciliation and carry the word to the world.

  550. But now you're asking me to get things right. Perhaps

  551. I'm the sinning brother and I need to be helped

  552. to get right.

  553. This is all too much for me. I want to

  554. encourage you.

  555. This is not going to sound encouraging, but I want

  556. to encourage you. If it sounds like it's too much,

  557. it is. Here's why that's encouraging, because Jesus knew that too.

  558. And next week we're.

  559. Going to talk about the help that we need to

  560. do this, and that's where we're going to land the

  561. plane and wrap it up and all those other phrases

  562. that we say when things are finished.

  563. But today I want us.

  564. To pray that we'd be able to operate in this

  565. inward function gaining our brother. I want us to be

  566. able to operate in that so that we're healthy, so

  567. that we don't lose our minds when we try to

  568. go and carry the word of reconciliation beyond. I want

  569. us to operate in a manner that's worthy of the

  570. way Christ gave it to us, in a way so

  571. that we see those promises come to pass, that He

  572. is there with us, that we get what we ask.

  573. For because we're asking for the right things.

  574. So as our alter team comes and we'll prepare themselves,

  575. I want to just if you want to pray about that,

  576. you want to find somebody to pray with, I'd love.

  577. For you to do that. I'd love to pray for

  578. you if you'd like me to. But like we did

  579. last week, I just want to pray and an overarching

  580. prayer for us.

  581. And we're gonna sing together, and then we're gonna baptize

  582. and we're gona do some more church functions. But I

  583. really want us to get this part right church, because

  584. this is the fuel. This is the thing that keeps

  585. us flexible and adaptable and strong and healthy, and it's

  586. tied to our primary function.

  587. So Father, we come to you.

  588. Humbly, Lord, knowing that we may not understand all of

  589. the ins and outs, knowing that perhaps maybe some of

  590. us are at fault. Others of us have tried to

  591. care others faults in the wrong manner. Some of us

  592. have forgotten that unity and reconciliation are your heart. Lord,

  593. some of us were completely unaware that this was part

  594. of our responsibility and authority at all. And so Lord,

  595. I pray that no matter where we find ourselves today,

  596. no matter what we're thinking, no matter where we fall

  597. in the understanding, that you would do a work in

  598. us that would inspire us. Lord, inspire us to do

  599. the ministry of reconciliation outside and inside as your body,

  600. that you'd help us to grow closer together, and that

  601. as we do that you knit us together.

  602. Supernaturally. Lord, that we are.

  603. Found in unity with one another, with you, as you

  604. are with the Father, so that we can accomplish what you're.

  605. Calling us to do.

  606. Help us to make things right, Lord, because you've given

  607. us the authority to do so. In the mighty and

  608. matchless name of Jesus, we pray, Amen, and Amen, if

  609. you want to pray with somebody, and feel free to

  610. come forward. At this time, we're going to sing together

  611. and worship the Lord let's do it.
