  1. This morning we're back in Matthew

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  2. chapter 1. Continuing our second sermon

  3. here in Matthew chapter 1. Start off

    Matthew 1 chapter mention

  4. with a little bit of an illustration

  5. as a means of thought. Suppose you were

  6. thinking about buying a car and you

  7. talked to all your young friends, school

  8. kids at church and you said, "Hey,

  9. thinking about buying this car. What do

  10. you think of this car?" Like, "Oh, that

  11. car is great. It's so cool looking. It's

  12. so fast. And then you think, "Okay,

  13. that's great. Now I want to go talk to

  14. the mechanics I know and the people that

  15. are in the manufacturing industry. I'm

  16. going to talk to some older people. They

  17. all say, "That thing's a piece of junk.

  18. Don't buy it." Who would you listen to?

  19. If you're wise, you wouldn't listen to

  20. your young friends. You listen to

  21. mechanics. You listen to people that

  22. know what they're talking about. Matthew

  23. has a hurdle to overcome because he's

  24. talking to first century Jews

  25. persuading them that Jesus indeed is the

  26. Messiah that we've long been waited

  27. waiting for as we saw in the first

  28. but to the first century Jew there's a

  29. problem

  30. who

  31. believes that Jesus is Messiah

  32. Gentile that is non Jew

  33. tax collectors, prostitutes,

  34. women

  35. did not did not necessarily bolster his

  36. testimony to be a woman. And Matthew is

  37. trying to appeal to a first century

  38. Jewish audience and persuade them that

  39. Jesus is the Messiah. But the first

  40. century Jew is saying the experts say

  41. he's not. the scribes, the Pharisees,

  42. the priests, the temple, all the experts

  43. are saying Jesus is not the Messiah. And

  44. then simultaneously,

  45. the the people that a Jew may not have

  46. as much respect for are believing in

  47. record numbers.

  48. Well,

  49. this is God's plan. And we're going to

  50. see this morning, we're going to be

  51. reading in the family tree of Jesus.

  52. We're going to read the genealogy. Last

  53. week we didn't read the genealogy, but

  54. we alluded to the genealogy. And in the

  55. genealogy, there's going to be some

  56. added phrases that are added in addition

  57. to the so and so is the son of so and

  58. so. There's some little additions.

  59. There's some little additions. And

  60. particularly women,

  61. great women like Sarah not mentioned.

  62. Rebecca not mentioned Rachel not

  63. mentioned mentioned

  64. Rahab Ruth Ba

  65. women who had a past

  66. women who would not have been highly

  67. esteemed. And yet

  68. three of those women are the

  69. grandmothers, the great grandmothers of

  70. David. And every Jew knew that they were

  71. in the family tree of King David.

  72. And they serve as an illustration that

  73. God takes the lowly, the sinful, the

  74. Gentiles, and drafts them in by faith.

  75. And God will often pass over the

  76. seemingly religious

  77. righteous.

  78. So it's a major theme of Matthew Gentile

  79. in

  80. we will see this little hint in the

  81. genealogy is actually one of the big

  82. themes of Matthew is that God is saving

  83. that this is a global faith. This is

  84. what we call a small Catholic faith. It

  85. is universal. It's not just a regional

  86. faith for Israel anymore. It is now

  87. going global so that all can be included

  88. and you can be included in this family

  89. tree. There's a family tree leading up

  90. to Christ and there's a family tree

  91. proceeding from Christ. But it's not a

  92. blood. It's a covenant

  93. by union with Christ.

  94. Though you may have a sexually immoral

  95. Though you may have some horrible sins

  96. that no one even knows about, yet you

  97. faith by union with Christ can be

  98. included in this family tree. If you

  99. stand with me God's word, we're going to

  100. read in Matthew 1.

  101. Matthew 1, the book of the genealogy of

  102. Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son

  103. of Abraham.

  104. Abraham was the father of Isaac and the

  105. Jacob and Jacob the father of Judah and

  106. his brothers and Judah the father of

  107. Perez the father of Hezron the father of

  108. Ram the father of

  109. the father of and the father of

  110. the father of by

  111. and the father of by

  112. and the father Jesse and Jesse the

  113. father of David the king. And David was

  114. the father of Solomon by the wife of

  115. Solomon the father of Riaboam. And

  116. Riaboam the father of Elijah. And Elijah

  117. the father of Asaf the father of

  118. Jehoshaphat. And Jehoshaphat the father

  119. of Jorum the father of Uzziah. And Uziah

  120. the father of Jam. And the father of

  121. Ahaz.

  122. the father of Hezekiah. And Hezekiah the

  123. father of Manasseh and Manasseh the

  124. father of Amos and Amos the father of

  125. Josiah. And Josiah the father of

  126. Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of

  127. the deportation to Babylon. And after

  128. the deportation of Babylon, Jeaniah was

  129. the father of

  130. the father of Elim. And the father of

  131. Azor and Azor the father of Zadok. And

  132. Zadok the father of

  133. the father of

  134. the father of Elazar the father of

  135. the father of Jacob. Jacob, the father

  136. of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom

  137. Jesus was born.

  138. Lord God, we thank you that Father, you

  139. came from heaven above to the

  140. condescended. You came down to walk our

  141. streets. You came to be born not to a

  142. wealthy person, although that would have

  143. been a great humiliation.

  144. He came to be born to a humble carpenter

  145. and his wife and raised

  146. the streets of Nazareth. And you did

  147. that because of your great love for us.

  148. You were willing to become poor that we

  149. might be made. You were willing to come

  150. and give yourself that we might be

  151. included in your family. Lord, we thank

  152. you. We are saved by

  153. grace through.

  154. This is the last great

  155. of the Bible. Granted, Luke also has a

  156. genealogy, but what I'm saying is

  157. whether Luke is first or Matthew comes

  158. first

  159. of

  160. the great

  161. in the Bible.

  162. And as we saw last time, this genealogy

  163. shows that God has kept his promises

  164. first to Adam, then to Abraham, and then

  165. to

  166. raise up to David to sit on his throne,

  167. a son who would have an everlasting

  168. kingdom. And the genealogy is given to

  169. Jesus that promised that God made

  170. certain promises. And this is the record

  171. of the family line up to Christ that

  172. shows that he

  173. being the son of David, being the son of

  174. Abraham to be the fulfillment of those

  175. after

  176. anybody who's ever tried to read through

  177. the Bible in that large portions of

  178. scriptures and chronicles that are

  179. geneal and people often want to pass

  180. over them. Sometimes there's some real

  181. jewels in those genealogies like wow

  182. that really

  183. but a lot of people skip them because so

  184. and so and so and so James

  185. people get bored of it and they want

  186. they want to skip on that but from God's

  187. vantage point it's very important

  188. because from God's vantage point God is

  189. demonstrating to us that he made

  190. particular promises to particular people

  191. Adam and Eve made the promise that the

  192. seed of the woman would crush the

  193. Adam we looked at last week Jesus the

  194. last Adam who ata the hill of the skull

  195. crushed the serpent's head to Abraham he

  196. made a promise that he would make him of

  197. his seed all the nations of the earth

  198. would be blessed and also from his

  199. atonement for sinapter

  200. 22 gyra my provider not provider of my

  201. electric bill but he was a provider of

  202. my atonement that's the emphas

  203. we talked about in Genesis 22 and then

  204. the day that he made the promise that of

  205. his own body he would make a son to sit

  206. on his throne with an everlasting

  207. kingdom

  208. that promise kept that promise no more

  209. testament after this genealogy we're

  210. done with genealogy

  211. they're no longer important but don't

  212. don't make they extremely important

  213. until Christ came so important that when

  214. Ezra comes back from the captivity

  215. there's certain people where you want to

  216. participate in the rebuilding of the

  217. walls right where's your genealogy we

  218. don't have one then you're excluded you

  219. can't participate

  220. participation we don't know if you're

  221. really Jews or not your family record

  222. in the book of Nehemiah I'm Sorry. Ezra

  223. uh Ezra finds out that certain of the

  224. people, certain of the priests and

  225. chapter 10 have married foreign lines

  226. and God said you're going to have to

  227. divorce your wife

  228. yet. And God did not want them to

  229. intermingle with the pagans around them

  230. and lose track of of their faith because

  231. God God was very protective like like a

  232. hen is protective of an egg. God was

  233. very protective of the the family line

  234. of of Christ and the priesthood until

  235. Christ came. After Christ comes, we're

  236. told in 1 Corinthians 7, if you're if

  237. you're a believer and you married an

  238. unbeliever, presuming you were you

  239. became a believer before actually you

  240. came to faith in Christ, you were

  241. already married to an unbeliever. He

  242. says if you have an unbelieving spouse

  243. who's content as well, if you don't stay

  244. with them

  245. for ever marry an unbeliever, even in

  246. the New Testament, but if you're already

  247. married to an unbeliever, then you try

  248. to win them to Christ by your life and

  249. your example. talk about that in

  250. the Old Testament marriage to an

  251. unbeliever was so forbidden that in Ezra

  252. he said divorce your unbelieving

  253. what what has changed what changes

  254. Christ

  255. and the family line is not what's

  256. important is what is important faith in

  257. Christ with Christ and now it's no

  258. longer an issue of you come from a

  259. particular tribe a particular family the

  260. issue is have you put your faith in

  261. Jesus

  262. You have

  263. this language of union with Christ.

  264. When we come into

  265. Christ and his dwells within us, the

  266. spirit of God comes to dwell in the

  267. believer.

  268. And by his spirit dwelling in us, we

  269. have

  270. you become a temple of God. No longer

  271. does God dwell in temples made with

  272. men's hands. dwells in individuals who

  273. have consecrated themselves by faith in

  274. Christ. His spirit dwells in us and we

  275. have union with Christ. We are one with

  276. Christ.

  277. And since we have union with Christ, our

  278. family tree is his family tree. The one

  279. that matters is we are union with Christ

  280. by faith and therefore his royal line is

  281. our royal line because we are found in

  282. him.

  283. How does that work? Well, how does it

  284. work? When a woman marries a man and she

  285. takes his last name and his bank account

  286. becomes her bank account,

  287. she leaves her father and mother. He

  288. leaves his father and mother. They form

  289. a new family. They have union. The two

  290. become one. That is one of the types of

  291. union is when a man and woman become one

  292. flesh together in marriage. They have

  293. union. His becomes hers and hers becomes

  294. his. His body is now her body. First

  295. Corinthians 7 says and her body is his

  296. body. They have union. They're owners of

  297. each other. They have union with each

  298. other. And in the same way when we come

  299. to faith in Christ, we repent of our

  300. sins. We put our faith in him. His

  301. righteousness becomes our righteousness.

  302. We are called by his name. We are part

  303. of his family. We are grafted into his

  304. family tree. Welcome dear believer to

  305. the royal family. You are sons and

  306. daughters of the king

  307. by union with Christ.

  308. Christ. All right, let's get down now.

  309. Let's look at this verse by verse one.

  310. We're actually not going to focus on the

  311. last verses.

  312. Probably one more sermon in the

  313. genealogy. I didn't cover but we're

  314. going to pay attention to the breaks in

  315. the pattern. First of all, let's look at

  316. verse one again. This is our last week.

  317. Our verse last week, the book of the

  318. genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of

  319. David, the son of Abraham. Remember last

  320. week I

  321. gives

  322. the book of

  323. the same phrase for Adam.

  324. I believe it's the book of the genesis

  325. of the book of the uh in the Greek it's

  326. the same word the book of the genesis of

  327. Christ the son of David the son of

  328. Abraham and again Abraham was made the

  329. promise that in him all nations will be

  330. in him

  331. all nations

  332. will be blessed in Christ, Jew and

  333. Gentile, male and female, bond, slave,

  334. free. In Christ, we are blessed. Christ

  335. is that promise kept to Abraham.

  336. And to David, God made the promise that

  337. he would have a son that would have an

  338. everlasting kingdom. And so, as you saw

  339. last week, major theme in the book of

  340. Matthew is the kingdom of God.

  341. 525 I said it last week

  342. of Matthew it is used more in Matthew

  343. than any other book the word kingdom

  344. it's the gospel of the kingdom Jesus is

  345. the king

  346. as we saw last week in Matthew 28

  347. all authority in heaven earth has been

  348. given me that my friends is a kingdom

  349. Christ at the right hand of the father

  350. a throne and rules the nations by the

  351. word of his power.

  352. He has all authority in heaven and

  353. earth. Jesus is the promise to David

  354. Abraham and Adam who is the biolog

  355. between Adam and Jesus. You're either in

  356. Adam family or you're in Christ family

  357. And so this family tree that we read

  358. about, you're either in it or you're not

  359. in it. You may be a Jew and not be in

  360. it. You may be a Gentile and be in it.

  361. Maybe a Gentile and not be in it. You

  362. may be a Jew and be in it. And what

  363. makes the difference

  364. and

  365. there's a lot of there's applications

  366. we're going to make here. Some takeways

  367. that I think are great importance.

  368. in our modern time. But for now, let's

  369. look at verse two.

  370. What we're going to be looking at here,

  371. what I want you to see is there's a

  372. pattern. Was the father of the father of

  373. was the father of the father of a little

  374. detail of the genealogy. And I want you

  375. to see these breaks

  376. are worthy of the break.

  377. Why is that there? All right. Abraham

  378. was the father of Isaac and Isaac the

  379. father of Jacob and Jacob the father of

  380. Judah and his brothers there's addition

  381. and his brothers

  382. and Judah the father of

  383. Perez and by a woman

  384. and the father of

  385. Hezron the father of Lam the father of

  386. the father of Nan the father and Salmon

  387. the father of Boaz by Rahab another

  388. woman

  389. and Boaz the father of Oed by Ruth

  390. another woman and Oed the father of

  391. Jessie and Jessie the father of David

  392. the king note there and David was the

  393. father of Solomon by the wife of not

  394. mentioned by name

  395. the wife of another

  396. David.

  397. So one thing I want to mention first of

  398. all is Jesse the father of David the

  399. king. It's a reminder that's in there to

  400. remind you that Jesus is the promise to

  401. David kingdom.

  402. Now a lot of these people are kings all

  403. the following

  404. up until Babylon but specifically David

  405. the king. Why is David the king

  406. mentioned? Because Jesus is the promised

  407. son who would sit on David's throne

  408. forever and that other than that he

  409. by

  410. uh Boaz by Rahab of Ruth and Solomon by

  411. the wife of I want to look at these and

  412. think about what

  413. happen so we have this Judah and his

  414. brothers

  415. Judah

  416. The father

  417. the father of

  418. Boaz the father by

  419. the father of David the king the father

  420. of my wife ofahhah and Jacob the father

  421. of Joseph the husband of Mary of whom

  422. Jesus is born

  423. is the final woman

  424. and Mary was such an woman

  425. that she blessed among above all

  426. No woman blessed Mary

  427. of any woman to ever live to be the

  428. woman who brought the son to all

  429. nations. So she's our final break in the

  430. pattern and we'll talk about that

  431. very

  432. Judah first of all. Judah and his

  433. brothers. He mentioned that that

  434. Jacob was the father of Judah and his

  435. brothers. Why? Why? What does he want to

  436. think about? Well, as we talked about

  437. now, maybe a month, month and a half

  438. ago, going through Genesis, finishing up

  439. the book of Genesis,

  440. we were reading in Genesis 49 8-10.

  441. Remember, there's a prophecy of Jacob

  442. over each of the sons of

  443. each of his 12 sons and they came to

  444. Judah verse 89

  445. your brothers shall praise you refers to

  446. praise

  447. your brother shall praise you your hand

  448. shall be on the neck of your enemies

  449. your father's son shall bow down before

  450. you

  451. is lion

  452. from the prey. My son gone up and lion

  453. shall not depart from Judah nor the

  454. ruler in his feet until tribute comes to

  455. him and him shall be the obedience of

  456. the people. So Judah has this marvelous

  457. messianic prophecy that will come the

  458. Messiah who will rule all nations and

  459. all nations will bow before him.

  460. Christion's

  461. reminder that Jacob is the father of

  462. Judah and his brothers. Oh, out of all

  463. the brothers, one was chosen to bring

  464. forth the Messiah

  465. who is a father of Christ

  466. as the lion of the tribe of Judah. So I

  467. believe that's I believe that's the

  468. reason Judah is mentioned is a reminder

  469. of the promise to first century readers

  470. of Judah will come the Messiah who will

  471. have a scepter that all the people not

  472. just all because again there's a massive

  473. theme here of the inclusion of all

  474. nations

  475. of Matthew and the big I believe in this

  476. then we also read that Judah

  477. Judah.

  478. So where do we read about that back in

  479. Genesis 384

  480. to 27? Let me give you a little

  481. background here. I know I just preached

  482. on it last year, but if you remember

  483. after Judah,

  484. there's a whole chapter dedicated quite

  485. a bit of narrative here to Judah and

  486. some of the things that he did and one

  487. of the things he had already married a

  488. womanite

  489. woman, but he did aite woman had two

  490. sons by them and

  491. took a

  492. and

  493. simply say don't worry

  494. in place of his brother

  495. if a woman died without children would

  496. marry the widow but on didn't want the

  497. responsibility

  498. of of his brotherly

  499. being the father to our son because he

  500. knew that that son would be the heir of

  501. his dead brother's estate.

  502. told his feet on the ground and God him

  503. and then he had another son and that son

  504. when it came when he came of age you

  505. came of age

  506. he didn't want to give his youngest son

  507. and so he was going to be childless

  508. went back to live in her father's house.

  509. And one day Judah was on

  510. Judah

  511. and he gave her money here. I'll give

  512. you I'll give you some tokens.

  513. I'll come back. I'll pay you for playing

  514. nice with you. And he goes, "Okay, wait

  515. for you." And he goes back, "Hey,

  516. where's the temple?"

  517. Well, she's not here. And so we get down

  518. to verse 24. It says, "About three

  519. months later, Peter was told, your

  520. daughter-in-law has been immoral.

  521. Moreover, she is pregnant by

  522. immorality."

  523. And bring her out and let her be so

  524. ready to condemn her just

  525. as she was being brought out. She sent

  526. word to her father-in-law by the man to

  527. whom these belong.

  528. Then Judah identified them and said she

  529. is more righteous than I

  530. did not give her to my son Sheila and he

  531. did not know her again.

  532. So

  533. God takes this woman who dressed up like

  534. a prostitute. She wanted children so bad

  535. like a prostitute

  536. relationship with her father-in-law

  537. and

  538. children by him and

  539. God yet again a woman

  540. why why is she mention first why would

  541. why wouldn't they mention Sarah

  542. woman of great faith

  543. who being so old and yet she considered

  544. her body as

  545. she considered God's promise that she

  546. would have received. She believed it was

  547. going to be

  548. or not. Why not why not Rebecca who was

  549. so noble that when the servant of of

  550. Abraham came she said I'll draw water

  551. for you and for your 1000

  552. gallons of water

  553. she's not

  554. or like Leah every time she she was

  555. having another baby she would praise the

  556. Lord

  557. those women are not mentioned who's

  558. mentioned first

  559. the

  560. If Jesus is the Messiah, how come all

  561. these prostitutes and tax collectors of

  562. which

  563. comes

  564. don't believe?

  565. And he's also demonstrating something

  566. else. He's demonstrating

  567. hope for the defile.

  568. hope for the hope for the nonigus

  569. Christ came into the world to save

  570. my name.

  571. The attitude of the Christian should not

  572. be well I'm not as I understand why I

  573. got in but I don't know how he could be

  574. saved. Our attitude should be if God can

  575. save me.

  576. That should be our attitude. never have

  577. an attitude. You know, we don't have a

  578. lot of homeless walk in here that sort

  579. of thing. We have a church on

  580. we were close to

  581. homeless people. We had alcohol

  582. in

  583. the street

  584. and

  585. anytime

  586. we want to welcome them.

  587. We're not going to tell you that it

  588. doesn't matter our stand. God demands

  589. that we repent.

  590. But we hope it says in first

  591. such not inherit the kingdom of God, nor

  592. idolattors, nor fornicators, nor

  593. homosexuals

  594. will inherit the kingdom of God. And

  595. such were some of you.

  596. You were washed. You were sanctified.

  597. You were justified. You were righteous

  598. by the spirit of our God. God delights

  599. in taking

  600. the wicked, the sinner, the lowly

  601. saving them. And often times he passes

  602. over the expert, intellectual, the

  603. philosopher,

  604. high.

  605. All right. Next one. The

  606. We saw Salmon the father of Boaz by

  607. a few generations later

  608. getting a close

  609. came from saying go the land especially

  610. Jericho

  611. and they went came into the house of a

  612. prostitute whose name was

  613. so versatile

  614. and said, "Hey, where are the men?

  615. came into your house last night.

  616. We're terrified. We know what God did

  617. Egyptian

  618. and

  619. I don't want my family to die.

  620. Will you remember me? Because tell you

  621. what, our lives are your life. You

  622. spared us. We spare you. She let him let

  623. him down

  624. and they said, "But you got to do this.

  625. You got to hang

  626. it from your house." The house was built

  627. into the wall.

  628. When they came to Jericho, they marched

  629. around the wall with the exception of

  630. the part of the wall. By the way, I very

  631. interesting video

  632. of Jericho, the walls of Jericho did

  633. indeed fall down and one section that

  634. did not fall at that time and that would

  635. have been whereabitute.

  636. She had a high body count. She did it

  637. for a living

  638. yet.

  639. She's she's noted in multiple places

  640. including James 2.

  641. Now everybody in Jericho, everybody God

  642. said you were wipe out everything in

  643. Jericho. You're not their clothing,

  644. their gold, their silver. Burn it all

  645. these people out. They were such a

  646. wicked people full of human sacrifice.

  647. It was just a very abominable place. And

  648. God said you're going to burn

  649. everything.

  650. And when was in there, he was supposed

  651. to burn everything, but he saw some

  652. silver. He saw Babylon and he took it

  653. and it was

  654. so

  655. battle, battle, not technology.

  656. They lose the battle.

  657. If you bring a cursive thing in your

  658. house, you're bring

  659. They did they

  660. by they said

  661. they took the

  662. particular family and they came down

  663. there

  664. and

  665. burned. So it's very interesting. of

  666. Judah who could have been in the family

  667. of Christ

  668. and Rahab who was under the curse the

  669. curse of Jericho her and her household

  670. is

  671. so you have an Israelite of the tribe of

  672. Judah like a branch broken off and a

  673. curse is grafted in

  674. the family tree of All

  675. right. What do we read in the book of

  676. Ruth? We read that Boaz who was okay. So

  677. Rahab

  678. with

  679. Boaz. That's his son.

  680. And Boaz

  681. marries Ruth and has Oed who has David.

  682. All right. That's kind of how far off we

  683. are. It's like great.

  684. Who is Ruth?

  685. Ruth. I'll read through the days when

  686. the judges ruled there was a famine

  687. because of the judgment of God and it

  688. was really bad where Jesus would end up

  689. being born here

  690. and a man of

  691. Judah went to the country of Moab

  692. and his wife and his two sons. The name

  693. of the man was the name of his wife

  694. Naomi. And the names of his two sons

  695. were

  696. they were from Judah. That's where

  697. they went to the country of Moab and

  698. remained there. Butcabit

  699. wives the name of the one and the name

  700. of the other.

  701. All right. So who are the Moabites?

  702. was a

  703. lot random and he went and lived in a

  704. cave with two daughters and two

  705. daughters came to him and said we don't

  706. like our father and they got him drunk

  707. and one got him drunk and laid with her

  708. father one night

  709. drunk he didn't know he didn't know

  710. anyway pretty disgusting story of incest

  711. between Lot and his two daughters the

  712. daughter became pregnant and conceived

  713. Ammon who became

  714. and the other daughter got pregnant and

  715. conceived Moab who became the Moabites.

  716. So the Moabites and the Ammonites are

  717. two tribes that were born of incest from

  718. the line of Lot of Abraham.

  719. And when Israel came out of Egypt, the

  720. Moabites

  721. came hired a prophet to come and curs.

  722. But later on we're told that this

  723. prophet named

  724. Israites

  725. and the Ammonites God told him he says

  726. you're never ever going to interit

  727. forever noted.

  728. It was illegal. They were the people

  729. that must not be married. And yet what

  730. happens is is in a time of famine.

  731. Naomi and her husband and her sons go

  732. down into the land of Moab because

  733. there's no there's no bread in

  734. Bethlehem, which means house of bread.

  735. And so they go over to Moab and they

  736. marry these two women.

  737. And then under the judgement of God, her

  738. husband and her two sons, they all die.

  739. And

  740. go back to live people. But says, "Where

  741. you go, I will

  742. be my people. Your God will be my God."

  743. Ruth

  744. said, "Your God will be my God." She had

  745. faith. I want to serve Yahweh. Even

  746. though it was an illegal marriage

  747. initially, she goes back with Naomi and

  748. she meets Boaz. Boaz sees her incredible

  749. character, marries her and has Oed

  750. and she

  751. so far, one dressed up like a prostitute

  752. and slept with her father-in-law. The

  753. next one was a prostitute for a living.

  754. And now we have a God specifically said

  755. no and yet God allowed because

  756. all right here's the next one mention

  757. second. Now we get out of out of

  758. further down.

  759. David did really well.

  760. When there was a lion to fight, he was

  761. ready. When there was a bear to fight,

  762. he was ready. When there was a giant

  763. fight, he was ready. When there was a

  764. beautiful woman to sleep with, he was

  765. ready.

  766. This is where he falls.

  767. in regards to his wife's a man after

  768. God's own heart but apparently a man

  769. also after his wife

  770. 11 says it happened late one afternoon

  771. walking on the roof of the king's house

  772. that he saw from the roof the woman

  773. bathing and the woman was very beautiful

  774. and inquired about the woman and one

  775. said is not this the daughter of the

  776. wife of your

  777. David sent me and took her and she came

  778. to him and he lay with her and she had

  779. been purifying herself.

  780. Then she returned to her house and the

  781. woman and she told David I am

  782. well

  783. of his best

  784. of

  785. So first he says there's a battle going

  786. on

  787. it easy

  788. on the fly but it was a time when he got

  789. the war and David sitting at home

  790. instead of being engaged in the war he's

  791. sitting on his couch

  792. sitting on his couch and uh that's when

  793. he falls into

  794. uh

  795. what does he do he calls

  796. Hey,

  797. good job.

  798. I'm not going to do that. He refused to

  799. go home. He was such a noble. He was a

  800. nobleite. A noble gentile. Not not an

  801. Israelite. Aite, a gentile.

  802. And he's more than David by far.

  803. Well, David David cannot. David was

  804. hoping that would go home and be with

  805. his wife and conceive a child or think

  806. child. Oh, congratulations on the baby

  807. baby boy. Didn't work out that way. God

  808. wanted.

  809. So later on David goes to Joab.

  810. Not just a bunch of people died.

  811. Oh, okay. Don't worry about it.

  812. But he does make

  813. you

  814. a year later. comes into

  815. not lawful what you do here

  816. and

  817. David is finally confronted recogniz

  818. The child later

  819. that's how David

  820. God

  821. Jebiahus

  822. is our

  823. adultery

  824. draft.

  825. Well, I I put here as a reminder to that

  826. Jewish reader. God's always been

  827. by

  828. the Old

  829. Jesus Christ.

  830. Later on in Matthew 21,

  831. we read about the

  832. Matthew 2132.

  833. When he entered the temple, the chief

  834. priest, the elders of the people came up

  835. to him as he was teaching and said, "By

  836. what authority are you doing these

  837. things? And who gave you this

  838. authority?" So here they are the chief

  839. priest.

  840. They're in the temple. The elders the

  841. elders also were the rulers of the

  842. people by their tribe.

  843. And they're asking by what authority

  844. I will also ask you one question and I

  845. also will tell you by what authority I'm

  846. doing the baptism of John and where did

  847. it come from heaven or man they

  848. discussed it among themselves saying if

  849. you will say to us why then did you not

  850. believe but we from we are afraid of the

  851. crowd. For they all told that John was a

  852. prophet. So they answered Jesus, we do

  853. not know. And he said to them, neither

  854. will I tell you by what authority I do

  855. these things.

  856. He said listen

  857. to market share. They didn't want to

  858. lose followers. They didn't want to lose

  859. their subscribers.

  860. So, look, what what did John the Baptist

  861. say?

  862. They know what he said. They said, "This

  863. is the Messiah. Greater than um and I'm

  864. not waiting on

  865. that message." It wasn't that the

  866. experts didn't have enough information.

  867. It's that they had a reason to reject

  868. him because they did not want to lose

  869. their following. And so, because they

  870. had a dishonest question, I tell you

  871. what

  872. and he went to the first and said work

  873. in the vineyard today and he answered I

  874. will not

  875. change his mind and he went to the other

  876. son and said the same and he answered I

  877. will sir will

  878. father they said the

  879. Truly I say to you

  880. came to you in the way of righteousness

  881. and you did not believe him but the tax

  882. collectors and the believed him even

  883. when you saw it you did not change your

  884. mind

  885. I gave the Jews

  886. and the people

  887. when God shows up.

  888. And so that brings the question we are

  889. we

  890. say I'll follow Jesus anywhere. A lot of

  891. people people get baptized

  892. faith but afterwards they quit the Bible

  893. they quit church

  894. they said I'll serve Christ I'll follow

  895. Christ

  896. don't none go with me so I will follow

  897. I

  898. came down to it

  899. for those who

  900. see in Matthew we're going to see many

  901. examples of

  902. chapter eight we're read

  903. Later on, we'll read about how

  904. Christ

  905. is rejected. It's a major theme of

  906. gentile inclusion.

  907. Then

  908. I want to go to a new

  909. Romans 11.

  910. There are two

  911. God's chosen people because of their

  912. ethnicity, their race, their

  913. pitfall

  914. elect

  915. Israel was chosen to be the the country

  916. from which the Messiah would come. He

  917. would come from Abraham's flesh. He

  918. would come from David's line. That's why

  919. the genealogy is there. But that's the

  920. last genealogy.

  921. That's it.

  922. The genealogy of Christ the last

  923. pitfall

  924. and I'm really sick of it. People that

  925. want to just talk about the Jews like

  926. behind that ever happened and cherry

  927. linenwood

  928. all run by Jews and uh pornography run

  929. by Jews and all the banks is run by Jews

  930. and Jews Jews. Okay, so ignore all the

  931. Nobel prizes and science and medicine

  932. because some important processed by I'm

  933. tired of hearing about

  934. It's just another way of boasting in

  935. your ethnicity because you wouldn't be

  936. saying that if you were a Jew, would

  937. you?

  938. I'm not a Jew. I'm notic

  939. by

  940. British and Americ

  941. that that we do as a people as Americans

  942. as a nation. Do you want to be

  943. accountable for every war that we've

  944. been involved in since World War II?

  945. You want to be accountable for that? You

  946. want to take ownership of it?

  947. Every everybody in the village has been

  948. bombed in some way, whether just or

  949. unjust. You want to take credit for it?

  950. Listen,

  951. we should not be boasting our ethnicity.

  952. in Christ.

  953. You're either in Christ or you're not in

  954. Christ. Now you are

  955. wise very intelligent people and there's

  956. a lot of brilliant genius Jews and some

  957. of them are evil geniuses and some of

  958. them

  959. sense contributed greatly to humanity

  960. and some Jews are believers.

  961. Christ, right?

  962. But in terms of righteousness, what

  963. matters? What matters is being in

  964. Christ. You are saved by grace, not by

  965. race. Nor are you excluded by race. Paul

  966. says here in Romans 11, he says, "Now I

  967. am speaking to you as much as I am the

  968. Gentiles. magnify my ministry in order

  969. somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous

  970. and thus save some of them for their

  971. reject

  972. what will acceptance but life

  973. on one hand

  974. there is no salvation given to men

  975. outside of

  976. There is no other name under heaven

  977. given whereby we must be saved but in

  978. Christ. But on the other hand

  979. he longs to see the Jews saved in

  980. Christ.

  981. And that should be all as well because

  982. there's plenty of people around every

  983. human race is corrupted. But in Christ,

  984. What do we have in verse 16? If the

  985. dough offered the first fruit, so is the

  986. analogy. And if the root is holy, so are

  987. the saying, listen, if the starter

  988. loss

  989. from it is holy. If you're in Christ,

  990. you are in him.

  991. back to Leviticus 2 and the offering of

  992. first fruits that would be offered. If

  993. you are Christ from the dead, if you are

  994. in Christ, you are holy as he is holy.

  995. And then he uses the next analogy. And

  996. if the root is holy, so are the

  997. branches. The root of the tree, if the

  998. root of the tree is holy, then the

  999. branches that come from that tree are

1000. holy. And that's the illustration of a

1001. family tree here. I'm tying it in

1002. Matthew although it doesn't mist

1003. but if some of the branches were broken

1004. off and you although a wild olive were

1005. grafted among the others and now the

1006. olive tree do not be arroant towards the

1007. branches if you are remember it is not

1008. you take the root but the roots you've

1009. got this olive tree which is a picture

  1010. of Christ

1011. and Some have been broken off Jews. Why?

1012. Because they rejected Christ. And some

1013. are in Gentiles. Why? Because they put

1014. their faith in Christ. They're grafted

1015. into the tree. The analogy here is a

1016. branch was cut off and a wild branch was

1017. grafted in and becomes part of the tree.

  1018. It has

  1019. branches off.

1020. Jews didn't believe they rejected Jesus

  1021. until the gospel.

1022. That's right. That is true. They were

1023. broken off because of their unbelief.

1024. But you stand through faith. So do not

1025. become fear. For God did not spare the

1026. natural branches. Neither did they spare

1027. you. Not the kindness of God.

1028. But God's kindness to you provided you

1029. kindness. Otherwise, you will be cut

  1030. off.

1031. Be very careful. You don't get an

1032. antiite attitude in your heading against

1033. the branches. You are saved because of

1034. your faith in Christ, nothing in

1035. yourself. And if you have the same

1036. arrogant, unbelieving attitude, you will

1037. be broken off. It's only by faith in

1038. Christ that we are grafted in that we

1039. become part of that royal family. Verse

1040. 23, and even they do not continue in

1041. unbelief will be grafted in. For God has

1042. the power to them in again. For if you

1043. were cut off Nature by nature olive tree

1044. and grafted concrete nature into a

1045. cultivated olive tree. How much more

1046. will these natural branches be in their

  1047. own

  1048. practically speaking?

  1049. I don't support an ethnicity just

1050. because they have an ethnicity.

  1051. I don't I don't believe God never did

1052. say unconditionally support the Jewish

  1053. people

1054. called the Jewish people in the Old

  1055. Testament.

1056. If you love the call to repentance,

1057. call them to faith in Christ.

1058. But there should be no hatred in the

  1059. heart of Christian

1060. making lots of jokes, making jokes,

1061. saying all kinds of things.

1062. Yes, there have been Jewish

  1063. conspiration.

  1064. You don't have

  1065. your branch.

  1066. We thank you, God.

1067. Lord, I pray for anyone here tonight.

1068. They're still relying on some kind of

  1069. pride

1070. and they're yet to humble themselves.

1071. Lord, I pray for them this morning.

1072. You would draw them to yourself

1073. that you would make them a new creature.

1074. I thank you that you welcome

  1075. sexually immoral

  1076. violence.
