  1. Good morning.

  2. It is Palm Sunday

  3. in which we celebrate the day that

  4. Christ came into Jerusalem riding on a

  5. donkey and he was hailed as the king.

  6. And oftentimes

  7. uh during the passion week, I'll go and

  8. I'll take a break from our text and go

  9. into something that directly reflects

  10. the church holiday. But this week or

  11. this year, I decided not to do that

  12. because our text deals with the kingdom

  13. and the authority of Christ. We're going

  14. to be in Matthew chapter 4 and we're

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  15. going to finish up the temptation of

  16. Christ by the devil in Matthew chapter

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  17. 4. And I've titled this the kingdom, the

  18. power, and the glory.

  19. In this passage, we're going to read

  20. about how Satan tempts Christ to Make a

  21. kingdom without a cross.

  22. Circumvent the cross. Get the kingdom

  23. directly. If you fall down and worship

  24. me, he says, I'll give you the kingdoms

  25. of this world. Now, there's a background

  26. here. We know that Satan takes him up

  27. into a very high mountain. In the book

  28. of Genesis, God creates Adam and he puts

  29. him in a garden with four rivers coming

  30. out of it. And if you ever about it. If

  31. there's four rivers coming from it, what

  32. does that mean? Means that Eden was the

  33. highest place around and therefore water

  34. flows downhill. That means that Eden was

  35. a mountain. And in Eden, Adam was made a

  36. king. In Genesis 1:28, we're told God

    Genesis 1:28

  37. blessed them. And God said to them, "Be

  38. fruitful and multiply and fill the earth

  39. and subdue it and have dominion over the

  40. fish of the sea and over the birds of

  41. the heavens and over every living thing

  42. that moves on the earth." So, Adam was

  43. given dominion over the earth.

  44. He was the king of the world and his

  45. wife was queen of the world. Now, when

  46. we think of kings and kingdoms, we think

  47. of doineering over mankind. But There is

  48. no sin. There is no need for police

  49. officers and and hangmen and uh Caesar's

  50. bearing swords. In a in a world where

  51. there's no sin or even less than uh no

  52. crime, you wouldn't need civil

  53. government. But man was called to have

  54. dominion over the earth.

  55. When we talk about the dominion mandate,

  56. and I encourage men and women to to look

  57. at their occupation and their role as

  58. mother and father as a fulfillment of

  59. the dominion mandate that comes from

  60. Genesis 1:28. Be fruitful, multiply, and

    Genesis 1:28

  61. subdue the earth. Take the dirt and make

  62. cool things out of it. build houses,

  63. build families,

  64. uh have gardens, build businesses, get

  65. involved, and bring the law of God, the

  66. law of Christ to bear in whatever sphere

  67. that you're in. This is a form of

  68. dominion. Well, what happens? Well, Adam

  69. is tempted in the garden to rebel

  70. against God,

  71. to be his own authority. Satan says,

  72. "You shall be as God.

  73. you'll be able to declare for yourself

  74. what is good and what is evil. This was

  75. a rebellion against God that that uh

  76. ended up Satan offered the bait and Adam

  77. took it and Adam now in a fallen world

  78. with frustration of work has dominion

  79. but in a fallen sort of way. And as we

  80. see in a little while, Satan in some way

  81. has a form of dominion over the

  82. kingdoms, the sinful kingdoms of this

  83. world. And we'll get into that. And now

  84. here Jesus, the last Adam, is on a very

  85. high mountain being offered the kingdoms

  86. of this world by Satan if he will fall

  87. down and worship him. And it's not that

  88. Jesus isn't to reign. It's not that he

  89. doesn't reign, as we shall see, he does.

  90. He's being offered the kingdoms of this

  91. world

  92. without a cross. You can avoid the

  93. cross. And this comes up later in the

  94. book. You can have the crown without

  95. without a cross. You can have authority

  96. without being submitted to God. If you

  97. will submit to me, I will give you the

  98. kingdoms of this world. He says, and you

  99. can reign without the suffering, without

  100. the cross. And this Jesus would not do.

  101. So the point of this this morning's

  102. sermon is no crown without a cross.

  103. Christ had to suffer before he could

  104. reign. If you stand with me now for the

  105. reading of our short text, Matthew

    Matthew 4:8

  106. chapter 4, verse 8. Again,

  107. the devil took him to a very high

  108. mountain and showed him all the kingdoms

  109. of the world and their glory. And he

  110. said to him, "All these I will give you

  111. if you will fall down and worship me."

  112. Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan,

  113. for it is written, you shall worship the

  114. Lord your God, in him only shall you

  115. serve." Then the devil left him, and

  116. behold, angels came and were ministering

  117. to him. Let's pray. Lord God, we thank

  118. you that you did not avoid the cross,

  119. but you willingly went to the cross to

  120. bear our sins so that we could be

  121. redeemed from evil, so that we could be

  122. reconciled to God. And now you reign.

  123. All authority has been given to the son

  124. in heaven and in earth. And we thank

  125. you, God, that we serve you, the

  126. sovereign God, the Lord Jesus Christ,

  127. who reigns supreme. You are our Lord and

  128. our Savior. We rejoice in your rule. In

  129. Jesus name I pray. Amen. You may be

  130. seated.

  131. So there's a contrast to be made. Adam

  132. sent in a garden. He's temped in the

  133. garden. Jesus is tempted in the

  134. wilderness. Adam on a full stomach.

  135. Jesus is hungry. Adam names the animal

  136. animals is surrounded by friendly

  137. animals. and and Mark it highlights that

  138. Jesus was with the wild beast. Uh Adam

  139. will fall, Adam will fail, Christ will

  140. prevail. Adam will be driven from the

  141. garden by angels. Jesus will be

  142. ministered to by angels. And so there's

  143. a contrast between the two. Adam had

  144. every favorable condition, but when he

  145. was offered the bait, he took it. Jesus

  146. was in a very hostile condition, and He

  147. prevails where Adam fails. And now

  148. Christ gets the kingdom back. Christ

  149. will be tempted through he has been

  150. tempted for his 30 years of life up to

  151. this point. He will be tempted many

  152. times after this and his ministry. We'll

  153. see another one of uh Christ final

  154. temptation will be at the cross where he

  155. will prevail once again. Adam will

  156. prevail at a tree. Jesus will obey on a

  157. tree. The thorns were put there for

  158. Adam's sake. Christ will bear the crown

  159. of thorns. And so Christ is the last

  160. Adam. And every man, every woman, every

  161. child is either in the fallen Adam or in

  162. the last Adam. Jesus is called the last

  163. Adam. But here we see his temptation and

  164. we see Satan offering him the kingdoms

  165. of the world if he will do

  166. the very simple thing. Bow down and

  167. worship me. Now, the first commandment

  168. says, "You shall have no other god

  169. before me." And the first commandment

  170. isn't so much about worship as the first

  171. commandment is about authority. Who's in

  172. charge? Who's in charge? Where where do

  173. your rules come from? Do your rules come

  174. from the culture? Does it come from your

  175. family? Does it come from the civil

  176. order? Who makes the rules? God says in

  177. the first commandment, "I am the Lord

  178. your God that brought you up out of the

  179. land of Egypt, out of the house of

  180. bondage. You shall have no other gods

  181. before me." This is a declaration. I am

  182. your authority and you're to have no

  183. other authority before me. But what's

  184. Satan doing here? Satan is saying, "If

  185. you'll bow down and worship me, if

  186. you'll make me your authority, I'll give

  187. you what's under my control, the

  188. kingdoms of this world." And what's

  189. inferred is without a cross, you don't

  190. have to go to the cross. You can just

  191. bow down and worship me. And and the

  192. cross part will come in later in the

  193. book. We'll look at it some more. But

  194. let's I got a lot of verses to look at.

  195. Our text is very short this morning. I

  196. break it into two halves, but I have a

  197. lot of background that I think will

  198. clear up a lot of confusion about this

  199. passage. There's a lot of confusion

  200. about this passage. So let's look at it

  201. again. Verse eight says, "Again, the

  202. devil took him to a very high mountain

  203. and showed him all the kingdoms of the

  204. world and their glory. And he said to

  205. him, all these I will give you if you

  206. will fall down and worship me." So,

  207. first of all, notice he took him to a

  208. high mountain. Adam was on a mountain.

  209. Four rivers flew out flowed out of it. I

  210. didn't a high mountain. And those say,

  211. well, this is this is kind of some kind

  212. of mythology where you people thought

  213. that if they could get to a high enough

  214. mountain, they could see to the end of a

  215. flat earth. No. High places were places

  216. that people believe they would meet with

  217. the gods. And throughout the Old

  218. Testament, people would go up to the

  219. high places and they would build altars

  220. to Baal and Ash. One of the the great

  221. sins of Solomon was he built high places

  222. to foreign gods. People would worship

  223. their false gods on high places. And to

  224. this day, and you go to India and Tibet,

  225. people put temples on high places. uh

  226. ziggurats and pyramids and Mexico are

  227. man-made high places. You ascend to the

  228. steps and there they would go to offer

  229. their sacrifices to the gods. Uh I

  230. believe this is in a vision. Satan takes

  231. them in a vision. He shows them the

  232. kingdoms of the world and he says all

  233. this I will give you if you will fall

  234. down and worship me. Now there's

  235. different ways of looking at this one.

  236. This could be like the person that says,

  237. "I have a bridge to sell you." Right?

  238. You want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge?

  239. I'll sell it to you cheap going for a

  240. hundred bucks today while I'm hungry.

  241. Well, they don't have the authority to

  242. sell the Brooklyn Bridge. And that could

  243. be what's going on here. But I I think

  244. what I'm gonna what I'm going to show

  245. you here in a little bit is that God is

  246. the most high God who owns the world.

  247. But prior to the coming of Christ, he

  248. delegated territory to different

  249. spirits. He the nations under under

  250. spirit beings, the sons of God. And I'll

  251. show you that in a minute. But but the

  252. one that ultimately owns the world and

  253. always has is God. God delegated it to

  254. Adam. Adam loses it to Satan and

  255. principalities. And Jesus gets them

  256. back. Not just merely as God, but as the

  257. God man. So who owns the world? Psalm 24

  258. verse one says, "The earth is Yahweh's

  259. and the fullness thereof, the world and

  260. those who dwell therein. For he has

  261. found it upon the seas and established

  262. it upon the rivers. Now Psalm 24:1

    Psalms 24:1

  263. and verse two is written after the fall

  264. of Adam. Who does it say owns the world?

  265. Yahweh does

  266. say Satan owns the world. Yahweh owns

  267. the world. The earth is the Lord's and

  268. the fullness thereof and they that dwell

  269. therein. So the Moabites and the

  270. Hittites and the Amorites and the

  271. Bratton and the Germanians and everyone

  272. else, he owns all people because he's

  273. God. Why? Because he founded it. He

  274. established it. He created it. He's the

  275. ultimate owner. He's the landlord.

  276. He evicts whom he chooses. He delegates

  277. it to whom he chooses.

  278. Now in the book of of um

  279. Daniel

  280. there's a king named Nebuchadnezzar.

  281. He thinks he rules the world. He calls

  282. himself the king of kings.

  283. He he thinks that he is the highest

  284. authority on earth. By the way, I think

  285. this is one of the reasons why atheism

  286. is so dangerous and politics because

  287. what's the highest authority according

  288. to the atheist?

  289. man. It's the man with the most guns.

  290. So, the civil government becomes the god

  291. of the atheist, the savior of the

  292. atheist. And the way to save mankind is

  293. by seizing control, doing what's right

  294. in your own eyes. Why? Because the

  295. government doesn't answer to anybody

  296. unless they're defeated.

  297. So atheism is a very very dangerous

  298. political philosophy because it believes

  299. that rights come from man and salvation

  300. comes from man and so it looks to the

  301. state. Atheist that's why like atheist

  302. communism uh was able to kill millions

  303. of people and not feel bad about it

  304. because hey if you're going to make an

  305. omelet you got to break a few.

  306. So if you got to eliminate a few people

  307. and you got to redistribute some wealth

  308. that's okay. That is not a biblical

  309. worldview. The biblical worldview is all

  310. authority comes from God most high.

  311. Christ is the authority of every man.

  312. You'll read that in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 11 chapter mention

  313. chapter 11. Christ is the head of the

  314. church. Christ is the king of kings and

  315. the lord of lords. So Christ is head of

  316. the family, the individual, the church

  317. and the state. All authority, all

  318. legitimate authority comes from God.

  319. That's why we must never obey a civil

  320. authority if it means disobeying God.

  321. Because all authority comes from God. I

  322. heard one man on a podcast earlier, I

  323. think it was this week say to another

  324. man says, "You could never you could

  325. never be someone like the the head of

  326. the FBI because you're a Christian. If

  327. you're going to be the head of the FBI,

  328. then you got to you got to do ungodly

  329. things because that's what needs to be

  330. done." You're telling me right there

  331. what you think the ultimate authority is

  332. and who your ultimate savior is

  333. because you're saying man is the savior

  334. and man has right. No, I think precisely

  335. since civil magistrates are the minister

  336. of God to you for good. Romans 13. They

  337. should be Christians because they should

  338. prioritize God and his word above what

  339. man says and what people think.

  340. Well, anyway, this man Nebuchadnezzar,

  341. he thought he was the highest power on

  342. earth and God gives him a dream to

  343. humble him. And he does get humbled and

  344. he the whole chapter Daniel 4 is written

  345. by Nebuchadnezzar, a pagan king. I don't

  346. know uh really any other complete

  347. chapter is written by non-Jews in the

  348. Bible. But here we have in Daniel

    Daniel 4 chapter mention

  349. chapter 4, I'm going to read a few

  350. pieces of it. This is what what

  351. Nebuchadnezzar says. King Nebuchadnezzar

  352. to all peoples, nations, and languages

  353. that dwell in all the earth. Peace be

  354. multiplied to you. It has been good to

  355. me to show the signs and wonders that

  356. the most high God lion is the Hebrew

  357. name. The most high God has done for me.

  358. How great are his signs, how mighty his

  359. wonders, his kingdom is an everlasting

  360. kingdom, and his dominion endures from

  361. generation to generation. So the king is

  362. about to bear w testimony. I no longer

  363. see myself as the most high.

  364. Elon is the most high God. That's a very

  365. important the the word lljon means the

  366. most high God. There are lesser beings

  367. and lesser spirits, but he is the god of

  368. god. So skipping down to verse 24, he

  369. says uh so so let me tell you this. Dan

  370. Nebuchadnezzar has this dream about his

  371. dream and getting cut down and uh Daniel

  372. comes to interpret the dream and he says

  373. verse This is the interpretation of

  374. kings. It is a decree of Elon the most

  375. high which came upon my lord king that

  376. you shall be driven from among men and

  377. your dwelling shall be with the beast of

  378. the field. You shall be made to eat

  379. grass like an ox and you shall be what

  380. the do of heaven and seven periods of

  381. time shall pass over you till you know

  382. that the most high rules the kingdom of

  383. men and gives it to whom he will. Look

  384. at that last verse. The Most High rules

  385. the kingdom of men and gives it to whom

  386. he will. Now, what happens is Daniel

  387. tells me, "You don't humble yourself.

  388. God's going to make you eat, give you a

  389. mental illness, and you're going to eat

  390. grass like an

  391. hair is going to grow long and your

  392. fingernails are going to grow long. And

  393. he's going to do this just to show you

  394. that God can make you do whatever he

  395. wants.

  396. You will eat grass like an ox until you

  397. know what? that the Most High rules the

  398. kingdom of men and gives it to whom he

  399. will. A lot of Christians don't know

  400. that today.

  401. A lot of Christians don't know that the

  402. Most High rules the kingdom of men and

  403. gives it to whom he will. They think

  404. Satan is in control of everything. But

  405. Satan is a prince. He's not the king of

  406. kings, which we shall see.

  407. He says, "You're going to eat grass like

  408. an ox until you know this." And he's

  409. like, "I advise you to repent."

  410. Okay, that's a good idea. But then one

  411. day he's out walking this palace and he

  412. gets lifted up in his in his heart and

  413. he says look at the look at the kingdom.

  414. Look at all that I have built. I have

  415. done this. You know idolatry is talking.

  416. Idolatry starts with the letter I.

  417. Remember that I have built this. I have

  418. done this. I am this great man. and and

  419. and immediately at that time he hears

  420. the voice of an angel and God gives him

  421. the sentence and he goes for seven years

  422. in each breath like an ox and then

  423. afterwards he's restored to his mind and

  424. this is what it says in verse 34 at the

  425. end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted

  426. my eyes to heaven and my reason returned

  427. to me and I blessed the most high

  428. there's that llon again and praised and

  429. honored him who lives forever for his

  430. dominion is an everlasting dominion and

  431. his kingdom endures from generation to

  432. generation. All the inhabitants of the

  433. earth are accounted as nothing and he

  434. does according to his will among the

  435. hosts of heaven and among the

  436. inhabitants of the earth and none can

  437. stay his hand or say to him what have

  438. you done. So so Nebuchadnezzar at the

  439. end says the most high rules

  440. the nations with all their weaponry and

  441. all of their strategies are like dust to

  442. him. They're nothing to him. counted as

  443. nothing. Not only that, but he also

  444. rules among the hosts of heaven, which I

  445. believe could be a reference to the

  446. stars because God rules the universe

  447. like that as well. And it also can be a

  448. reference to the angelic beings in the

  449. spiritual realm, which I think is most

  450. in view here. But what's very clear is

  451. the most high is the ultimate authority

  452. from which all authorities are derived.

  453. Even demons are under his control.

  454. the most high God. And that is the point

  455. of Daniel 4. If you'll read the whole

  456. passage, the point you're supposed to

  457. walk away through is the most high

  458. rules. All right? So, how can Satan

  459. offer the kingdoms of this world when

  460. he's not the most high? Well, prior to

  461. that, in Deuteronomy 32, I'm reading a

  462. lot of scriptures out of Matthew 4 this

  463. morning, but Deuteronomy 32,

  464. Moses talks about Elon, the Most High.

  465. long before Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel.

  466. And look at what he says. It's a very

  467. important verse. Deuteronomy 328 says,

  468. "When the Most High gave to the nations

  469. their inheritance, when he divided

  470. mankind, he fixed the borders of the

  471. people according to the number of the

  472. Elohim, the sons of God." This verse is

  473. one of those vers.

  474. So, how did the ancient world read this?

  475. Well, when God divided the nations after

  476. the tower of Babel, uh, the nations

  477. rebelled against God. They wanted to

  478. build this temple. God said, "Be

  479. fruitful, multiply, fill the earth,

  480. spread out." They said, "No, no, we're

  481. going to make a name for ourselves.

  482. We're going to be one people. Sheam and

  483. Jacob, we're all going to be one people.

  484. We're going to build a tower under the

  485. stars, and we're going to forget about

  486. God, rule things on our own." And so God

  487. divides up the nations at the Tower of

  488. Babel. He split them up. They all

  489. started speaking the different

  490. languages. They didn't understand each

  491. other. and they they separated. And

  492. we're told here at that time, God

  493. delegated God I'm using the word

  494. delegated here. God delegated the nation

  495. to be under what's called the sons of

  496. God, which is some people call it

  497. angels, but the technical term is the

  498. sons of God. You can read about it in

  499. Job chapter one when the sons of God

  500. come before the throne of of uh of God

  501. to give an account of what's going on.

  502. But God delegated the nations to be

  503. under different spirits. They rejected

  504. the knowledge of God. And so God handed

  505. them over to hostile spirits. God said,

  506. "Fine, you don't want you don't want to

  507. serve me, you'll serve them." And God

  508. allowed this to take place. God allowed

  509. the nations to be under the different

  510. powers.

  511. But he made a distinction for Israel.

  512. Verse 9, he says, "But the Lord's

  513. portion is his people. Jacob, his

  514. allotted heritage. He found him in a

  515. desert land in the howling waste of the

  516. wilderness and encircled him and he

  517. cared for him. He kept him as the of his

  518. eye like an eagle that stirs up its

  519. nest. There's that Genesis 13 word again

  520. to stir up the bird word that flutters

  521. over its young spreading out its wings,

  522. catching them, bearing them on its

  523. pinion. The Lord alone guided him. No

  524. foreign god was with him. God's

  525. basically saying, I put all the nations

  526. under these different sons of God except

  527. Israel. They're my heritage. They're my

  528. special people. I have a special

  529. relationship with them. I've left the

  530. nation.

  531. We might use the phrase, "No, I won't

  532. use it." But we might, we just say he

  533. just said, "I'm leaving the nations for

  534. their paganism, their idolatry." We're

  535. told in Romans 1, why? When they knew

  536. God, they didn't glorify him as God.

  537. They rejected God. So what did God do?

  538. God handed them over to a reprobate mind

  539. to do those things which are not

  540. convenient. Do those things which are

  541. harmful. And they changed the glory of

  542. God into an image like forooted beasts

  543. and freak and things. Because mankind

  544. selfconciously rejected God, God said,

  545. "Fine, I'm going to hand you over to

  546. your idolatry. I'm going to hand you

  547. over to these false spirits." And to

  548. this day, what happens when a nation

  549. rejects Jesus Christ, God hands him

  550. over.

  551. Look at what's happening to Britain.

  552. Britain used to

  553. the the empire in which the sun never

  554. Why did it never set? Because they had

  555. territory all over the globe. They ruled

  556. the world.

  557. And and then they they rejected Jesus

  558. Christ. They rejected the Lord as as a

  559. whole. They became a lukewarm people.

  560. And now it's it's the the curses are

  561. coming upon them in many ways. And I

  562. pray I pray for the revival. I think

  563. there's some hints of revival happening.

  564. They have real consequences that are

  565. happening. And America, will we fare

  566. better?

  567. state of Missouri are is the state of

  568. Missouri acknowledging the Lord Jesus

  569. Christ. Somebody in prayer request

  570. brought up the um the whole abortion

  571. thing, how the last amendment three

  572. Missurans in large number higher than I

  573. thought. I thought it was a small

  574. margin, but large numbers of Missurians

  575. voted for

  576. uh for the crime to be able to murder

  577. children in the womb.

  578. That's a rejection of Jesus Christ. We

  579. are not a godly state and The churches,

  580. the church has hardly cried out against

  581. it. Why? It's a mystery to me. But

  582. apparently the churches has adopted some

  583. other authority than Jesus Christ.

  584. Because they wouldn't cry out against

  585. the sin of the land. It reminds me of in

  586. Jeremiah 23. I think it's Jeremiah 23.

  587. He says, "If they had stayed in my

  588. presence, they would have turned my

  589. people from their sins.

  590. They run when I don't send them. They

  591. share visions with one another, but but

  592. they won't turn my people their sins.

  593. That's the role. That's what a

  594. god-fearing pastor, God-fearing elders

  595. do is they want to turn people from

  596. their sins.

  597. Tires

  598. want to fill seat.

  599. Godly shepherds want to fill heaven.

  600. Well, anyway, when people reject the

  601. knowledge of God, God hands them over.

  602. And that's what God did. God handed him,

  603. man, is there any other scripture that

  604. says that? Yeah. Actually, Daniel,

  605. again, let me show you an example of

  606. this. I'm going to make a point. I know

  607. I'm taking a long time to get back to

  608. Matthew. I will. I will. Daniel 10:18.

    Daniel 10:18

  609. Daniel has another he's been praying.

  610. He's been praying for repentance uh of

  611. of Israel. And uh it says and he has he

  612. has a a vision and Daniel says 10 verse

  613. 18. He says, "And again, one having the

  614. appearance of a man touched me and

  615. strengthened me and he said, "Oh man

  616. greatly loved, fear not. Peace be with

  617. you. Be strong and of good courage. As

  618. he spoke to me, I was strengthened. And

  619. he said, "Let my lord speak, for you

  620. have strengthened me." Then he said, "Do

  621. you know why I have come to you? But now

  622. I will return to fight against the

  623. prince of Persia, and when I go out,

  624. behold, the prince of Greece will come,

  625. but I will tell you what is inscribed in

  626. the book of truth. There is none who

  627. contends by my side except your against

  628. these except Michael, your friend." All

  629. right. So, I'm just gonna give you like

  630. I'm just going to boil this down. What's

  631. happening is is in the in the natural

  632. realm, Daniel is praying and in the

  633. spirit realm, there are these

  634. principalities and powers that are

  635. fighting against each other. There's a

  636. principal power of Persia. There's a

  637. principal power of Gree. And they're

  638. they're at war with each other. And

  639. there's the prince of his people Israel,

  640. an interesting person to talk about

  641. sometime. He's called Michael here. And

  642. and uh the message is that the Behind

  643. the natural realm, there are spiritual

  644. battles taking place. There are

  645. territorial spirits that rule over

  646. different areas. And I I wondered over

  647. we go over we went yesterday to the

  648. abortion mill. And I really felt like

  649. God answered prayer yesterday. One car

  650. turned away. There were way less people

  651. yesterday. It just I just believe God

  652. did it. It just less people came and and

  653. went in that place. And I was so

  654. thankful. Thanks were out there

  655. worshiping God on the sidewalk. a

  656. beautiful thing. Uh but you know, long

  657. before they were killing babies there,

  658. they uh they were offering up young

  659. girls to the corn goddess on the hills

  660. over there near Cahokia and those kind

  661. of places. And and sometimes you wonder,

  662. man, are there still territorial spirits

  663. that that desire human blood that are

  664. ruling over that area in Granite City?

  665. St. Lucy called Mountain City. Why was

  666. it called Mountain City? Because they

  667. had lots of Indian mountains mounds,

  668. both sides of the river. People are

  669. offering up human blood to the false

  670. gods, to the corn gods

  671. on those hills, in those areas. And and

  672. there's still babies being offered up to

  673. the gods of of of materialism and

  674. same same false spirit powers are still

  675. deceiving people in our day. They're

  676. still spiritual powers and and and they

  677. have been, as I'm going to show you,

  678. they've been

  679. legally dethroned by the death of

  680. Christ. But as We still have to wage war

  681. for them. Say, "Well, where do you where

  682. do you get that, Matt?" Well, Paul

  683. acknowledges it here in Ephesians 6:10.

    Ephesians 6:10

  684. He says, "Finally,

  685. be strong in the Lord in the strength of

  686. his might. Put on the whole armor of God

  687. that you may be able to stand the

  688. schemes of the devil. For we do not

  689. wrestle against flesh and blood, but

  690. against the rulers, against the

  691. authorities, against the cosmic powers

  692. over this present darkness, against the

  693. spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly

  694. places. Therefore, take up the whole

  695. armor of God that you may be able to

  696. withstand in the evil day and having

  697. done all to stand firm. What's Paul

  698. saying? He's saying, okay, there's still

  699. still a spiritual battle that is taking

  700. place.

  701. And we wrestle against principalities

  702. and powers. And under these

  703. principalities and powers, there were

  704. principalities and powers. And they had

  705. a legal right to rule over the nations

  706. until Christ came and defeated them at

  707. the cross. And now they've been

  708. dethroned. is still at work and we have

  709. to wrestle with them. We have to fight

  710. with them. I'm going to show you more

  711. about it in a minute, but but Paul

  712. alludes to these principalities and

  713. powers and rulers of darkness. Some of

  714. you are like, "Man, I've never I've

  715. never heard of this before." Well, it's

  716. there. It's just that we're removed from

  717. the original context. The original

  718. audience understood this. Paul

  719. understood this. They knew Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 32:8

  720. 32:8. They knew the book of Daniel. And

  721. Paul knows the book of Daniel here. And

  722. Paul is going out and preaching the

  723. gospel. He's being resisted by spiritual

  724. powers that do not want him to preach

  725. the gospel.

  726. So part of Paul's ministry is prayer.

  727. Submitting ourselves to God, resisting

  728. the devil so he will flee from us. This

  729. is not just intellectual, folks. Your

  730. sin temptations are not just

  731. intellectual. They are spiritual. And as

  732. long as you think they're just immoral,

  733. hormonal, just chemical, just for dinner

  734. you you'll ignore part of the battle

  735. which is we wrestle against

  736. Jesus was tempted by the devil we will

  737. be tested by spiritual forces

  738. and just like Jesus spoke scripture back

  739. at the devil we should be taking up

  740. Ephesians 6 says the sword of the spirit

  741. which is the word of God if you look at

  742. all these scriptures when you put them

  743. together they they agree

  744. Now what if so when Satan says

  745. bow down and worship me and I'll give

  746. you the kings of the world in what sense

  747. can he give the kingdoms of this world?

  748. Well, he's not the most high. He doesn't

  749. own the earth and the fullness thereof.

  750. That's very clear. I've showed it to you

  751. in Matthew, I'm sorry, Psalm 24:1. The

    Psalms 24:1

  752. earth is the lords and the fullness

  753. thereof. Satan cannot give what he does

  754. not possess. What Satan is offering him

  755. is apparently all these spiritual powers

  756. have come under him.

  757. He's the dominant power. And what he's

  758. saying is he's saying without a cross

  759. you can avoid the cross. Just go down

  760. and worship me and I'll let you in on

  761. what I'm doing down here.

  762. You can join me if you'll worship me. In

  763. other words, show declare that I'm your

  764. ultimate authority. I will give you the

  765. kings of this world. Rome and Hindustan

  766. and the Germanic tribes, you'll you'll

  767. just I'll give it to you. I'll make you

  768. my man. You can be like the new

  769. Alexander or the new Julius Caesar or

  770. the new um uh Kublan. What was the guy's

  771. name? It was uh the Mongolian Empire.

  772. Yeah, you can be that guy.

  773. Take take your take your position. Just

  774. fall down and acknowledge me as your

  775. authority. That's that's what he's

  776. enticing him to do. Satan doesn't own

  777. the earth. Satan Satan is a prince. In

  778. Ephesians 2

  779. verse one, it says, "And you were dead

  780. in trespasses and sins in which you once

  781. walked, following the course of this

  782. world, following the prince of the power

  783. of the air, the spirit that is now at

  784. work in the sons of disobedience, among

  785. whom we all once lived in the passions

  786. of our flesh, carrying out the desires

  787. of the flesh and the mind, and were by

  788. nature children of wrath like the rest

  789. of mankind." Satan here is called the

  790. prince of the power of the air. He

  791. doesn't own the world. That's the point

  792. I'm trying to make to you.

  793. There are spiritual impostors. There are

  794. there are rebellious spirits. There are

  795. demonic strongholds. But he doesn't own

  796. the world.

  797. He does not have ultimate authority. As

  798. we shall see, Christ has ultimate

  799. authority. I'm going to show it to you

  800. in black and white. But at this time,

  801. Christ has not gone to the cross yet.

  802. And Satan is saying, "Ball down and

  803. worship me and I'll give you my network.

  804. the spiritual network that's in the

  805. unseen realm. Let's go back to Matthew

  806. 4. So, yeah, it's been long enough.

  807. Matthew 4:10. Then Jesus said to him,

    Matthew 4:10

  808. "Be gone, Satan, for it is written, you

  809. shall worship Yahweh Elohim, the Lord

  810. your God." That's what it would have

  811. been in Hebrew. And him only shall you

  812. serve.

  813. He said, "No, I'm not going to bow down

  814. and worship you.

  815. Only only God. I'm only going to worship

  816. and serve God. I tell you this, this

  817. really has application for us in our

  818. lives because many times like the guy

  819. was talking about the one man says the

  820. other man, you could never, you're a

  821. Christian, you can never run the FBI.

  822. I'm like, well, why not? To the degree

  823. you need an FBI, if you need an FBI,

  824. that could be called into question. But

  825. I'm just saying if there is a civil

  826. authority, I would like him to be a

  827. god-fearing man.

  828. Backer, William Baxter, the Pur said,

  829. "If God would have rulers, then God

  830. would have laws. Then God would have

  831. rulers that rule by his laws."

  832. I I don't want the king to murder

  833. whoever he wants. I don't want the

  834. president, frankly, to go and declare go

  835. declare war without Congress.

  836. Now, why did our founding fathers do

  837. that? Why did they separate powers?

  838. Because our founding fathers understood

  839. that the nature of man is sinful. And

  840. mankind wants to do others. They want to

  841. do they don't have dominion over the

  842. soil. dominion over you and me, right?

  843. And so they separated these powers and

  844. kind of put them at odds with each other

  845. so that in order to get anything done,

  846. they'd have to cooperate.

  847. So if you want to go to war, listen, if

  848. we got invaded from Mexico or Canada,

  849. we'd all be on board, pick up your guns,

  850. boys, and show up, right? We'd all be in

  851. favor of that. You wouldn't you wouldn't

  852. have to do much convincing and Congress

  853. could say, "We declare war." And we'd

  854. all be like, "Fine, we've been attacked.

  855. We're there." Right?

  856. public support for it like there was in

  857. World War II after Pearl Harbor got

  858. bombed. We all jumped behind it. America

  859. jumped behind it and there arguments

  860. about, you know, whether or not that was

  861. known about or not. But in any case, we

  862. declared war as our Congress. And what

  863. did that mean? That meant that um if you

  864. didn't agree with it, you could vote

  865. against your congressman next time. He'd

  866. have to give an account to the people he

  867. represents. Well, when one man can go

  868. and invade a country whenever You know,

  869. well, there's reasons why I can't tell

  870. you, right? Uh, and if you knew, you'd

  871. want me to. Yeah, but leaders are

  872. supposed to be accountable to the

  873. people. But more importantly, who they

  874. supposed to be accountable to? God.

  875. God's law is to be the standard from the

  876. dog catcher

  877. to the president of the United States.

  878. Because Christ is Lord.

  879. And when Christ is honored, Christ will

  880. bless. And when Christ is dishonored, it

  881. will bring the curse. And your sons and

  882. daughters will come back wounded in body

  883. and soul.

  884. And they'll spend their most productive

  885. lives off fighting wars that you don't

  886. know why you fought.

  887. And they'll come back and saying, "Was

  888. that murder or was that justified? I

  889. don't even know. I don't even know.

  890. I want God-fearing rulers that fear God

  891. more than man." This is true in the

  892. corporate world as well.

  893. worship me and I will give you the

  894. kingdoms of this world. Just compromise,

  895. lie, steal, manipulate, cheat. This is

  896. not the world can do that. That's not

  897. for the Christian to do. Our highest

  898. authority is Christ. We are to obey

  899. Christ.

  900. And if obedience to God leads to your

  901. dismissal, your firing, or your

  902. execution, then so be it.

  903. She said, "If you won't take up your

  904. cross and follow me, you can't be my

  905. disciple.

  906. There's no crime without a cross. Not

  907. for him, not for us."

  908. Our authority is Christ.

  909. And so Jesus says, "Be gone, Satan. Get

  910. out of here, Satan.

  911. It is written, you shall worship the

  912. Lord your God, and him only shall you

  913. serve." Now, if God's word often say,

  914. "Well, that's in the Old Testament.

  915. That's in the Old Testament." Well,

  916. Jesus could have said, "Satan, I'm not

  917. just a man. I'm God. I created you. Get

  918. lost." I'm not going to do that. He

  919. doesn't. He quotes scripture as a

  920. pattern to you and me. He quotes

  921. scripture. He quotes Deuteronomy chapter

    Deuteronomy 6 chapter mention

  922. 6. You shall worship the Lord your God,

  923. and him only shall you serve.

  924. Deuteronomy 63:15. It is the Lord your

  925. God you shall fear. Not not your

  926. commanding officer, not your boss, not

  927. your neighbor, not the guy with the

  928. baseball bat. It is Yahweh Elohim you

  929. shall fear. Him you shall serve and by

  930. his name you shall swear. That's the

  931. verse. You could say him only you shall

  932. serve because the Hebrew grammar is

  933. translated that way. Him only shall you

  934. serve and by his name you shall swear.

  935. You shall not go out after other gods.

  936. The gods of the peoples who are around

  937. you. For the Lord your God is in your

  938. midst is a jealous God. Let the anger of

  939. the Lord your God be kindled against you

  940. and he destroy you from the face of the

  941. earth. You shall not put the Lord your

  942. God to the test as you tested him that

  943. made I I uh I I threw in verse 16 just

  944. because I want you to see that's that's

  945. what he replied in last week's

  946. temptation. You shall not put the Lord

  947. your God to the test. One brother texted

  948. me and says it's ironic that Satan in

  949. his temptation is testing is testing

  950. God. God

  951. and Jesus, don't put God to the test.

  952. That's who Jesus is both God and man.

  953. And now here, um, he dares one more

  954. time.

  955. He has so much pride. He's willing to

  956. say, tell you what, bow down and worship

  957. me and I'll give you everything I got.

  958. I'll give you the kingdoms of this

  959. world.

  960. But Jesus says, "No,

  961. bow down to any god." See, he's the most

  962. high God. There are little G gods under

  963. his authority. That that's that's what

  964. the nations worship these gods were were

  965. fallen angel indices who were delegated

  966. over the nation. That's who they were

  967. worshiping. You know, you think the

  968. people that built the Roman aqueduct and

  969. the Roman road and the coliseum were

  970. idiots. Just superstitious idiots. No,

  971. they they saw supernal

  972. when when the prophets of Baal jumped up

  973. and down and cut themselves and were

  974. falling down. They did so because they

  975. had seen supernatural things happen

  976. before Christ died on the cross. It was

  977. even more dramatic spiritual things.

  978. Satan manifested himself a lot.

  979. Missionaries will tell you when they go

  980. into new countries that the gospel

  981. hasn't been there very long or hasn't

  982. Christ has not been exalted. The witch

  983. doctor has real power over people. They

  984. really fear the witch doctor. Why?

  985. Because they're working with demons.

  986. They're partnering with demons. Demonic

  987. enemy still has their stronghold here.

  988. So, The missionary goes in, the

  989. missionary does more than just hand out

  990. Bibles and say nice things. There's a

  991. spiritual warfare that has to take place

  992. because there are entrenched spiritual

  993. powers that have been legally dethroned

  994. by Christ but still have to be resisted

  995. in

  996. that's why Paul says that we we wrestle

  997. against principalities and powers and

  998. rulers of darkness of whom Satan is one.

  999. And Jesus says, "No, I will not bow down

1000. to you. Only God is man to worship and

1001. serve. And Jesus met the challenge as a

1002. man, not merely as God. Jesus has a

  1003. pre-existence. He's the pre-existent son

1004. of God. But now he's meeting the

1005. challenge as the second Adam. And as the

1006. second Adam, he says, you shall only

1007. worship and serve the Lord. No other

  1008. God. Deuteronomy.

1009. Verse 11. Then the devil left him, and

1010. behold, angels came and were ministering

1011. to him. I think it's in Mark. It might

1012. be in Luke. The devil left him for a

1013. season. That's the little phrase left

1014. him for a season. The devil left him

1015. that day and angels came and minister to

1016. Jesus. You notice after Adam falls, what

1017. happens? Angels drive him from the

1018. garden. Jesus prevails and angels come

1019. and minister to him. It's a reversal of

1020. Adam's fall. It is the prevail

1021. prevailing of Christ the second and

  1022. last.

  1023. Now,

1024. Satan season. He's going to come back.

1025. He's going to test him again. Uh we read

1026. about this in a very significant passage

1027. in Matthew. Same in Matthew. But I want

1028. to show you another passage

1029. and in which uh Jesus is tested and it's

  1030. a very similar temptation.

1031. Matthew 16, Jesus has just asked who do

1032. people say that I am? Well, some say

1033. that you're Elijah, some prophet, some

1034. this or that. Jesus, who do you say that

1035. I am? And Peter speaks up. Verse 16.

1036. Simon Peter replied, "You are the

1037. Christ, the Messiah, the Messiah, the

1038. one you've been waiting for, the son of

1039. the living God." And Jesus answered him,

1040. "Blessed are you, Simon Barjonah, for

1041. flesh and blood has not revealed this to

1042. you, but my father who is in heaven, and

1043. I tell you, you are Peter, and on this

1044. rock I will build my church, and the

1045. gates of hell shall not prevail against

1046. it. I will give you the keys of the

1047. kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind

1048. on earth shall be bound in heaven and

1049. whatever you loose on earth shall be

1050. loosed in heaven. Then he strictly

1051. charged the disciples to tell no one

1052. that he was the Christ. So Peter says I

1053. know who you are. You're the Messiah,

1054. the son of the living God.

1055. And Jesus says, "Yeah, the spirit will

1056. give this to you." And what does he what

1057. does he say? He says, "I'm going to blow

1058. my rock on." There's a lot we'll go into

1059. a lot of details on this when we get to

1060. there in Matthew 16. But I just want to

1061. point out to you that one of the things

1062. he says he's gonna build his church on

1063. this rock, which we shall talk what that

1064. is later on. And he says, "The gates of

1065. hell will not prevail against it." Now,

1066. are those gates designed to keep people

1067. in or to keep people out?

1068. The gates of hell are supposed to keep

  1069. the kingdom out.

1070. Keep out the kingdom. And Jesus says,

1071. "The gates of hell will not prevail

  1072. against my church.

1073. The king is going to advance. Going to

1074. trample the gates. The gates will not

1075. hold back." See, the these spirits that

1076. were territorial spirits have legally

1077. been evicted. As a landlord, I know

1078. this. I've had to evict people before. I

  1079. can't just kick them out. I can't say

  1080. it's my property. They're like, you

  1081. know, you know, I can't, as a landlord,

  1082. I can't enter someone's house without

  1083. permission. I Well, I I own the

1084. building. Yeah, but you signed a lease

1085. with us and you're bound by your

  1086. covenant.

1087. If you're going to come in here, state

1088. of Missouri says I have to I have to I

1089. have to knock. I have to give

  1090. permission. I mean, if there's some

1091. imminent danger, I guess, like, you

1092. know, water is flowing all over the

1093. place. I got to save the place. Maybe

1094. that that would be an excuse. But

  1095. generally speaking, I can't just I hand

1096. accuse over to somebody. I can't just

1097. barge in without their permission. Well,

1098. that's kind of the way it was in the Old

1099. Testament. God delegated the nations.

1100. He's the landlord, but he has delegated

1101. them a territorial spirit, their

1102. boundaries, and their land. Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 32:8

1103. 32:8. And God said, "I'm delegating them

1104. under you." Well, now, guess what?

1105. Christ got the judicial eviction.

1106. What do I do when I go to court? If

1107. someone had been paying their rent, I

1108. get a court order. Court order says they

1109. have to move out within 10 days. What

1110. happens if they don't move out with 10

1111. days? Well, then I got to get somebody

1112. with due authority to come and open the

  1113. doors, police officer, sheriff,

1114. whatever, and take their stuff and put

1115. it out on the curb if they refuse to

  1116. leave. I think that's an illustration

1117. what's going on. Christ gets the world

  1118. back

  1119. at his resurrection,

1120. but the don't want to leave. And so

  1121. there's spiritual warfare that's taking

1122. place. It says the gates of hell will

1123. not prevail against it. So um it says

1124. for from that time Jesus began to show

1125. his disciples that he must go to

1126. Jerusalem and suffer many things from

1127. the elders and chief priests and scribes

1128. and be killed and on the third day be

1129. raised again. Why is he talking about

1130. this? Because this legally had to be

1131. done for him to get the nations.

1132. Notice what happens next Peter the star

1133. pupil that day is now emboldened to

1134. speak yet again. Verse 22. And Peter

1135. took him aside and to rebuke him, to

1136. rebuke the Lord, saying what? Far from

1137. you, Lord. This shall never happen to

1138. you. But he turned and said, "Get behind

1139. me, Satan. You are a hindrance to me.

1140. For you are not setting your mind on the

1141. things of God, but on the things of

  1142. man."

1143. So Peter does this what Satan does. He

1144. says, "You you can have this stuff

1145. without a cross." And Jesus says, "No, I

1146. told you I'm born in Jerusalem to suffer

1147. and die. I've got to go bear the sins of

1148. my people. I got to redeem my people. I

1149. I've got to be tested on a tree like

1150. Satan was tested at like Adam was tested

1151. at a tree. I got to prevail.

1152. And he says Jesus recognizes that even

1153. though it's Peter speaking that Satan is

1154. behind what he's saying. You can have a

1155. crown without a cross. Jesus far be it

1156. from you. Don't go to the cross. No. No

  1157. crown without a cross.

1158. You're not favoring the things of God.

1159. You're favoring the things of man.

1160. Jesus makes it clear that we had to bind

  1161. Satan. Matthew 12

1162. earlier verse 24 says when the Pharisees

1163. heard it they said it is only by be

1164. elible the prince of demons for Satan

1165. that this man cast out demons knowing

1166. their thoughts and said to him every

1167. kingdom divided against itself is laid

1168. waste and no city or house divided

1169. against itself will stand and if Satan

1170. cast out Satan he is divided against

1171. himself how then will his kingdom stand

1172. and if I cast out demons by be elible by

1173. whom do your sons cast them out there

1174. therefor Therefore, they will be your

1175. judges. But if it is by the spirit of

1176. God that I cast out demons, then the

1177. kingdom of God has come upon you. Jesus

1178. said, "The kingdom of God has come upon

1179. you. He's casting out demons." In

1180. Israel, he he was not sent before the

1181. lost people, the house of Israel. There

  1182. he had authority,

1183. total authority. Outside of Israel, he

1184. had to gain that authority. And he says

1185. in verse 29, he says, "For how can

1186. someone enter a strong man's house and

1187. plunder his goods unless he first strong

1188. then indeed he may whoever is not with

1189. me is against me and whoever does not

1190. gather with me scattered Jesus is

1191. talking about Satan here he's got him

1192. bound once he's legally bound which is a

1193. a legal has a legal definition then his

1194. goods can be fun that's what he does at

1195. the cross but no crown without a cross

1196. so Jesus goes to the cross he's

1197. crucified for our sins he rises again

1198. And how does the book end? Well, in

1199. Matthew 28, final words of the book of

  1200. Matthew, Matthew,

1201. Jesus came and said to them, "All

1202. authority in heaven and on earth has

  1203. been given to me.

  1204. Who rules the world?"

1205. Read the verse. Who rules it?

  1206. Who rules it, church?

1207. Jesus does. Satan does not rule the

1208. world. a prince that works and the sons

  1209. of disobedience.

1210. He deceives, he entices, but he does not

1211. rule. Christ is at the right hand of the

1212. father and he will remain there until

  1213. what?

1214. All enemies are put under his feet.

  1215. Psalm 10 verse one.

  1216. Christ rules.

1217. Christ rules over the nations.

1218. All legal authority in heaven and earth

1219. has been given to him. And the great

1220. commission that follows is a consequence

1221. of this authority. Satan offered him the

1222. Jesus of this world without a cross.

1223. Jesus chose the cross. Now Jesus gets

1224. the crown and he says go out there and

1225. preach the gospel to every nation. Verse

1226. 19. Go therefore. See how this is the

1227. case. Go therefore and make disciples of

  1228. all

1229. ethnic, right? All nations, all

  1230. families.

  1231. Concept of a political state wasn't

1232. all the families of the earth. Baptize

1233. in the name of the father and of the son

1234. and of the holy spirit teaching them to

1235. observe all that I commanded you and

1236. behold I am with you always to the end

1237. of the age so you baptize baptism is

  1238. spiritual warfare

  1239. ancients understood this

  1240. is a person identifying with Christ's

1241. death on their behalf and they're saying

1242. there is now a change of ownership I am

1243. immersed in Christ he is my lord I

1244. confess he is my lord I trust him as my

1245. lord I'm relinquishing in fact early A

1246. lot of a lot of the early church they

1247. required the denunciation of Satan uh at

1248. baptism. It's not found in the scripture

1249. and we don't practice it but a lot of

1250. the early church did. A lot of the early

1251. church people would renounce Satan. It

1252. was an understanding. I am now under the

1253. lordship of Christ. I am not one of the

1254. sons of disobedience. His spirit is no

1255. longer to work in me. I am now under his

1256. authority and I trust in his vicious

  1257. death in my place.

  1258. It's a it is a it is a submission to God

1259. whereby we can resist the devil and what

  1260. he flees from us.

1261. So God says you'll baptize them and then

1262. what you teach him to all things. Now if

1263. you're a trinitarian how much of the

1264. Bible is the word of Jesus.

1265. You believe in the doctrine of the

1266. trinity. How much of the word of God is

  1267. the word of Jesus?

  1268. All of it.

1269. We're to take his word properly

1270. interpreted through the lens of the new

1271. covenant and the cross. Right? But all

1272. of God's word is given by say those of

1273. you who are study on Wednesday night.

1274. It's all God breathed out and it's

1275. profitable for teaching, for reprove,

  1276. for instruction, for rebuking,

1277. to thoroughly equip us to every good

1278. work. So when we go, we're to teach the

1279. nations to obey all things he has

1280. commanded us. That is transformative to

1281. the family, to the individual. Wherever

1282. the gospel goes, literacy goes. Why

1283. people want to read God's word? Wherever

  1284. the gospel goes,

  1285. spirits are defeated.

  1286. Families are discipled.

1287. People are taught the ways of God. God's

1288. word is applied to to the family and the

1289. business. This is our job because Christ

1290. has dominion. We're to apply his word to

1291. every area of life. There is no area of

1292. neutrality in our lives to which we deny

1293. the authority of Jesus Christ. He's our

1294. king. He's our lord. and we bow and

1295. worship to no one else. I want to show

1296. you another scripture. It's getting kind

  1297. of late.

1298. It says uh in Colossians 2:13-15, "And

    Colossians 2:13–15

1299. you who were dead in trespasses and the

1300. uncircumcision of your flesh," that's

1301. what we were. We were dead to God. We

1302. were not God's children. God made alive

1303. together with him. He resurrected us

1304. having forgiven us all our trespasses by

1305. cancing the record of death that stood

1306. against us with this legal demand. Then

1307. he set aside this he set aside to the

1308. cross he disarmed the rulers and

1309. authorities and put them to open shame

  1310. by triumphing

1311. over them in him. You catch that last

1312. verse? He disarmed the rulers and the

1313. authorities. They have been evicted.

  1314. They are disarmed.

  1315. They're still there. They're still

1316. enticing going about as a roaring lion.

1317. He can maybe devour, but we have the

1318. power and the authority and he has the

1319. glory through him. We have the power and

1320. authority to do spiritual warfare

1321. and and uh submit ourselves to God and

1322. resist the devil and make pleas for us

1323. because Christ won the victory. They are

  1324. disarmed.

1325. One chapter earlier, I want to show you

1326. this one. If it's not clear enough,

1327. few little slides here, I want to show

1328. you that has all dominion. The kingdom

1329. is a present reality. It's not postponed

1330. for the second coming. Christ is the

1331. right hand father right now. He has all

1332. authority right now. Okay. Colossians

    Colossians 1:13

1333. 1:13. He has delivered us from the

1334. domain of darkness and transferred us to

1335. the kingdom of his beloved son.

1336. In whom that's Jesus in whom we have

1337. redemption, the forgiveness of sins. And

1338. that's usually where we stop. Oh, we

1339. have forgiveness of sins. Satan still

1340. rules the world, but we've been

1341. forgiven. Yeah, but listen to what it

1342. says. He, Jesus, is the image of the

1343. invisible God. The firstborn of all

1344. creation. Firstborn means the heir of

1345. all things. Doesn't mean he had a time

1346. when he was not. It means he's the air.

1347. The firstborn is the term for the heir.

1348. For by him all things were created.

1349. Jesus was God and man, and God he

  1350. created all things.

1351. All things were created in heaven and on

1352. earth, visible and invisible, whether

1353. thrones or dominions or rulers and

1354. authorities. All things were created

1355. through him and for him. And he is

1356. before all things, and in him all things

1357. hold together. And he is the head of the

1358. body, the church. He is the beginning,

1359. the firstborn from the dead, that in

1360. everything he might be preeminent.

1361. Everything. You just go through there

1362. sometime, get your pen. Every time you

1363. see the word every, underline it. Every

1364. and all. All all every every every Paul

1365. is trying to say the authority of Christ

1366. is all encompassing. It is not just your

1367. spiritual time on Sunday morning.

1368. It's it's not just this little piece of

1369. your life. He claims preeminence in all

1370. of life and he c he claims authority

1371. over thrones and dominions, rulers and

1372. authorities. You say, "Well, is that

1373. talking about the unseen spiritual

1374. authorities or is it talking about the

1375. theme like political authority?" I'm

1376. like, "It's talking about all authority.

  1377. seen and unseen.

1378. So I don't just I'm not just like, you

  1379. know, King Charles

  1380. over there in England,

1381. how much power does he really have?

1382. Well, he's really rich, but he's got

  1383. some power.

  1384. But he's mostly it's just like a

1385. figurehead, right? Is that what Christ

  1386. is to you?

1387. And we call him Lord. Kind of like a

1388. king without power. A figurehead, a bad

1389. guy. Jesus, our master. our mascot and

1390. savior or is Jesus our Lord?

1391. According to Paul in Colossians 1, he

1392. has all authority in heaven and earth.

1393. He created it. He's creator God made

1394. flesh and he has preeminence in

1395. everything. Final slide. For in him all

1396. the fullness of God was pleased to dwell

1397. and through him to reconcile to himself

1398. all things whether on earth or in heaven

  1399. making

  1400. of his

1401. and Christ the fullness of God is as

1402. well. Christ is the image of the

1403. invisible God. Lots of transarian

1404. theology go here that Jesus is both God

1405. and man but he didn't just prevail as

1406. God himself but as the God man. A man

1407. sits on the throne of heaven. God always

1408. sat on the throne of heaven, right? But

1409. in a new sense, Jesus is the last Adam

1410. has gained back what Adam lost.

1411. So he could say all authority has been

1412. given to me in heaven and earth. What

1413. does this mean for us? Well, as his

1414. redeemed people, we see all of our life

1415. as Christ is welcome in all of it. He's

1416. our Lord. He's our savior. He has

1417. authority over everything. There's no

1418. area not not entertainment, not

1419. finances, not sexuality, in all areas.

  1420. He's the Lord.

1421. We submit to him and there's a spiritual

1422. battle that all of us are engaged in.

1423. Spiritual forces are real. The witches

1424. know it. The new aers know it. The

1425. Hindus over there in India, they know

1426. it. But in America, a lot of people act

1427. like Satan isn't real. No. Satan,

  1428. demonic forces are real.

1429. They're real. And we're to wage war with

1430. them. We're to pray over our loved ones.

1431. We're to pray that God would would open

1432. their eyes like he's opened our eyes

1433. because we're deceived by the power of

1434. the air. He works in the children.

1435. This is this affects the way we

1436. evangelize. It affects the way we we

1437. live in all areas. But in no area do we

1438. deny Christ authority because he has all

  1439. authority.

1440. It's not postponed. He demands obedience

1441. now. There was a time when he wked at
