The First Constitutional Republic | Isaiah 33:22

I believe greatest country it's ever
-
been that's my opinion
-
it was it was founded on biblical
-
many biblical ideas and it is my concern
-
that those ideas eroded and lost have
-
been eroded and lost in many ways. I
-
want to talk about how some of those
-
ideas come from the scriptures. I'm only
-
touching a few. I' I've been told that
-
in the discussions of the constitutional
-
convention, the book of Deuteronomy
-
decided more than any other source. And
-
many people today want to a really big
-
deal out of the Roman Republic and say
-
well we were based on the Roman Republic
-
but it's very interesting Roman Republic
-
was founded in 509 BC
-
which is a good 1200 years after the
-
Hebrew republic was founded a lot of
-
Christians have never even heard about
-
the Hebrew republic what's a republic
-
republic is representative government
-
where you have rep representatives
-
governing over the people If you've ever
-
said the the the pledge of allegiance or
-
heard the pledge of allegiance, you know
-
that the flag we remember the republic
-
for which it stands. It stands for
-
republic, not for a democracy. Our
-
founders looked at democracy as a great
-
evil because when when you have a
-
democracy, it's possible for as
-
Deuteronomy warns for the multitude
-
direct judgment. When when the majority
-
of people can get together and vote to
-
take away the property of other people,
-
the lesser people or when you have a
-
government where people in in strong
-
positions of of financial positions can
-
buy government.
-
So we have a constitution that protects
-
us. And you may think well constitution
-
a written constitution that was a new
-
idea. Well, again,
-
as we'll see, the first republic, the
-
Hebrew republic, was a constitutional
-
republic. God gave them a government and
-
he gave them laws. And the idea was that
-
those laws were over everybody. It was
-
over the judges. It was over the king.
-
It was over the people. So, the idea of
-
the rule of law is rooted in scripture.
-
And I want to look at some of those
-
foundations this morning. And so my
-
sermon though this morning is the first
-
constitutional republic.
-
Government of government is a biblical
-
concept and the blessing befitting of
-
godly population. If you stand with me
-
for the reading of God's word, we're
-
going to read one verse more sermon this
-
morning. Isaiah
-
33 verse 22. For the Lord Yahweh is our
-
judge. Yahweh is our lawgiver. Yahweh is
-
our king. He will save us. Let us pray.
-
Oh Lord God, we thank you that you are
-
the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
-
We rejoice that our Savior Jesus is name
-
salvation.
-
He will save. He has favor. God, we look
-
to you, the sovereign judge of all the
-
earth. Just as the the founders who pend
-
the Declaration of the Independence
-
declared their dependence upon you,
-
sovereign judge of all the earth. Lord,
-
we depend upon you this morning. We look
-
to you, Father, as we look at some
-
developments in our country. We look to
-
you. You are our hope. You are our
-
savior. You are. You are our king, our
-
judge, our lawgiver. We look to you this
-
morning. And we pray that you would rule
-
and reign in the heart of your people.
-
Amen.
-
I'm going to be looking at various this
-
morning. I'm going to be going to
-
various places. A little more
-
but particularly Deuteronomy
-
to begin with. But I wanted to show you
-
I wanted to start off with this one
-
verse that in it you see what we call
-
the three branches of government but
-
they're all found in one person in God
-
in Yahweh. You see all caps L O R Yahweh
-
is our judge. Okay. So there within
-
within God he is a judge and in our
-
government we have a judicial branch.
-
Yahweh is our lawgiver. Okay. Yes, he's
-
our lawgiver. Rights come from God.
-
Morality comes from God. And we have in
-
our constitutional republic a
-
legislative branch. And the Lord is our
-
king. What does the king do? The king
-
would lead out to war. The king the king
-
was the executive. The executive of a
-
nation. And so you have an executive
-
branch. And then we have this little
-
declaration. He will save us. It's very
-
important if you're going to have a
-
sustained people that your savior is
-
Yahweh. Your savior is Jesus Christ our
-
Lord. Why is that? Because when you
-
don't look to him to be your savior,
-
what do people look to? They look to the
-
government. This is one reason why
-
atheists are very very dangerous to be
-
empowered because there's no higher
-
power for the atheist than the civil
-
swords. That's the highest power. That
-
that is the highest court of
-
arbitration. But for the Christian, we
-
understand that that government, the
-
government is on Christ's shoulders and
-
all legitimate authority comes from him.
-
So all authority is under authority
-
whether it be in the church or in the
-
family or in the civil sphere that that
-
all authority comes from him and he is
-
our savior. When people look to the
-
government to save them that give them
-
power and the same power that gives them
-
the ability to save or they think we're
-
the ability to save is ability to take
-
and to steal and to oppress. This is the
-
problem with pagan government and
-
ungodly government. This is This is
-
what's called humanistic government is
-
that when you look when you look to the
-
government to be the fountain head of
-
rights, the source of of everything.
-
When you look to the government to be
-
your savior to give you cradle grade
-
security, then then the government wants
-
to have the power claims the power to do
-
that. And it's the power that the
-
government has the power to give you
-
everything you want. It's been said has
-
the power to take everything you have.
-
And that's why it's extremely important
-
that people understand our father is in
-
heaven. He's not in wrong. Our provider
-
is our savior. He saves us. We don't
-
look for the government to save us. Now,
-
why why is it that we have three
-
branches of government in our country?
-
Well, because our families understood
-
that human beings are sinners
-
and they have sinful sinful inclinations
-
and that human beings in in positions of
-
power themselves need accountability.
-
They need authority. Why Romans 13 says,
-
"Let every soul be subject to the powers
-
that be is everyone who has authority
-
must be under authority." We see this in
-
the church that that when God when Paul
-
set up churches, there was a plurality
-
of elders. There was mutual
-
accountability. And so the founders of
-
our country, they they recognize that by
-
dividing up the government into three
-
branches with a a judicial branch and a
-
legislative branch and an executive
-
branch, they could keep each other in
-
check because they knew they read their
-
Bibles. They knew that uh sinful people
-
need accountability. Government needs
-
governing. That's why Romans 13 says
-
that every soul
-
be subject to the powers of that would
-
include the king that would that would
-
include every level government we are
-
under authority and that's how we have
-
authority this is a concern I have for
-
even in the church when people tell me
-
that we're home churching they're just
-
going to have church in their home okay
-
so there's nobody to keep the father
-
accountable in that we need each other
-
elders need eldering pastors need There
-
needs to be a plurality and and so in
-
civil government our founders with a
-
firm understanding that human beings we
-
we are fallen we are sinful and
-
therefore we need checks and balances.
-
God is holy and righteous. So in the one
-
person of God he can be judge and
-
lawgiver and king and savior but for
-
human beings absolute power corrupt
-
absolutely as the go and so in wisdom
-
knowing the symptoms of man there are
-
there's a division of government now I
-
want to look at chapter one when Moses
-
came out of Egypt I said some months ago
-
that he's a mutous man
-
that I quoted out the man in all the
-
earth. He had the most power of any
-
other human being other than Jesus. He
-
had the most power that's ever heal
-
supernatural power.
-
Moses acted as a king and as a priest.
-
He has he had complete total power when
-
he came out of Egypt and and before God
-
put him in that position, he let him be
-
a for the in the desert to humble him.
-
But but even Moses, even Moses
-
misrepresented God by his authorities.
-
But when Moses brought the children of
-
Israel out of Egypt, he was weary
-
because all day long he would be hearing
-
cases and solving problems and it was
-
his father-in-law came to him Jethro and
-
he said, "What you're doing isn't good.
-
You need to delegate. You need to
-
delegate your authority to other
-
people." And so this in chapter one,
-
Deuteronomy chapter one and Exodus
-
chapter uh 18 we have the foundation of
-
the Hebrew republic. Deuteronomy chapter
Deuteronomy 1 chapter mention
-
1 vers9 says at that time when I came
-
out of Egypt at that time I said to you
-
I am not able to bear you by my son. The
-
Lord your God has multiplied you and
-
behold you are today as numerous as the
-
stars of heaven. May the Lord, the God
-
of your fathers, make you a thousand
-
times as many as you are and bless you,
-
as he has promised you. How can I bear
-
myself the weight and the burden of you
-
in your strength? Cheers for your
-
tribes, wise, understanding, experienced
-
men, and I will appoint them as your
-
head, and you answer me the things that
-
you have spoken is good for us to do.
-
Now, notice he says, you know, the
-
people among you. So he says choose
-
choose from uh choose for your tribe
-
wise understanding experienced men. So
-
is there a democratic element here? It
-
appears so they were to choose. Moses
-
didn't know personally every single
-
person in there
-
in the desert. So he said you select you
-
choose you elect
-
certain people. What kind? Well, men
-
that are wise,
-
wise men, people that that have a
-
reputation for problem solving, people
-
who had accomplished something in their
-
life, people that had a track record
-
that demonstrated wisdom and
-
understanding and experience. They
-
weren't to be noviceses. They were to be
-
people with a track record. That's why I
-
I think that before anybody runs for
-
office, they ought to have a track
-
record of having done something, manage
-
something, build something. They'll have
-
a track record. And and uh in Ezekiel, I
-
think it's in Ezekiel 81 when it says
-
men that fear God. Men that fear God and
-
he says, "And I so they were to elect
-
and given me the ordination." This is
-
even as a church, we have uh when we
-
have members meetings and there's a need
-
for more elders or or deacons, we'll
-
say, "Okay, we're going to have
-
a nomination, a selection process. And
-
as a church, we'll select people and um
-
then the elders will approve them after
-
they've been um kind of duted for a
-
while and looked through to see if they
-
fit the qualifications found here in in
-
First Corinthians chapter 3. And so we
1 Corinthians 3 chapter mention
-
read on in verse 15. I took the heads of
-
your tribes wise and strange men and set
-
them at heads over you. Commanders of
-
thousands, commanders of hundreds,
-
commanders of 50, commanders of t and
-
officers and throughout your time. These
-
men would be known as the elders of
-
Israel. The word elders means old
-
literally but they became the president
-
of the elders of Israel. This is where
-
the concept of elders come from. There
-
would be 70 elders that that were kind
-
at the top and they would be on the
-
Supreme Court. So we read also about the
-
judges in verse 16 says I charge your
-
judges at that time hear the cases
-
between your brothers and judge
-
righteously between a man and his
-
brother or the
-
you shall not be partial in judgment.
-
You shall hear the small and the great
-
alike. You shall not be intimidated by
-
anyone for the judgment is God's and the
-
case too hard for you. you shall bring
-
to me and I will hear it and I and I
-
commanded you at that time all the
-
things that you should do. So here we
-
see he selects officers commanders and
-
also they select judges. So we have
-
these commanders that their their word
-
wouldn't be and it's been argued that
-
when God set up his republic he had an
-
executive branch and judicial branch but
-
no legislative branch.
-
Why? Because God gave them a body of
-
laws and the judges were to apply God's
-
law to given cases. It was a case law
-
system. When you you may have heard that
-
there are 613 laws in the Bible. 10 of
-
them were special. They were set aside.
-
They were written on stone by the finger
-
of God. They were put in the ark of the
-
covenant. There there's something
-
special about the ten commandments. Many
-
of the laws that you hear 613 have to do
-
with laws for the priest and how to
-
handle the sacrifices and the steps to
-
take and the things to be done. But many
-
of the laws are also civil laws that
-
were caseless. They were a case that a
-
judge could look at, could study, would
-
identify the the principle behind it,
-
the general equity principle of it. And
-
even though that particular case law may
-
have to do with oxen or don falling
-
under the road, the idea behind the case
-
law was it illustrated a principle that
-
with sound reasoning, honest judges
-
could apply it to a wide variety of
-
cases. And this is why when you read
-
when you read the law of God, don't
-
don't look at it as well, this is just a
-
bunch of archaic rules. If it sounds
-
strange to you, if it sounds harsh to
-
you, identify what the principle is and
-
you'll find that you can apply it to
-
many things in your life, including your
-
personal life. You see Paul doing this
-
in the New Testament. You see, Paul was
-
applying the law of don't mle the ox to
-
paying people wages. What does muzzling
-
ox have to do with wages? Well, when a
-
when an ox was spreading out in the
-
field, God's word said you're not to put
-
a muzzle on it. They need to be able to
-
eat while they work. And so Paul takes
-
that principle and he's able to apply it
-
to the local pastor actually.
-
So these laws were given to the judges
-
to apply to all sorts of situations.
-
There's a great advantage to this. The
-
great advantage was uh today we have
-
unending laws. We have we have rooms in
-
Jefferson City. We have room filled in
-
books of law that that some lawyer might
-
go digging through to try to find a
-
loophole, but we have tons of tits of
-
law, statuto laws. Biblical law wasn't
-
like that. It was a case that the wives
-
could read, could memorize, could study,
-
could discuss, could dialogue and debate
-
and and they could apply it to a variety
-
of situations. The common law of England
-
was based upon this system. So at the
-
founding of the republic, we were nation
-
founders had common law court a lawyer
-
to study under the tillage of another
-
lawyer and eventually pass the bar and
-
they learned legal reasoning and they
-
learn to apply principles general
-
principles from thousands of years of
-
British law to gave
-
them the law and they applied it to many
-
situations and wise men could make
-
decisions now we've gone over to
-
tyrannical sort of thing where the
-
government wants to pass a law that
-
we've got we got nonelected agencies.
-
We've got the EPA, we've got um the FDA,
-
we have all these the ACF, we got all
-
these agencies without any
-
representation in the government
-
whatsoever. Our Congress is delegating
-
power to people that are themselves not
-
elected and can't be voted out of
-
office. That wasn't our founders vision
-
and that wasn't God's vision. for
-
ancient Israel. God gave them a set of
-
laws. It wasn't an uneven multipet
-
amount of laws. Now, there were
-
officers. They would make decisions and
-
I'm sure in little things they were
-
making all kinds of commanders were
-
making all kinds of decisions. But it's
-
interesting to know that their judges
-
had a case law system and you didn't
-
have to know 10,000 laws to to uh do
-
something simple. much regulation
-
because we forsaken this concept. But
-
the founders understood that concept and
-
it was rooted in God's word. Now that's
-
that's where your judges and your uh
-
your judges and your officers came from.
-
Now later on
-
in Deuteronomy 16 he again talks about
-
these judges and officers. Deuteronomy
-
officers. In Deuteronomy 16, he says,
-
"You shall appoint judges, talking about
-
the teacher, and officers."
-
You got officers or elders and judges in
-
all your towns that the Lord your God
-
has given you according to your tribe.
-
And they shall judge the people with
-
righteous judgment. You shall not
-
pervert justice. You shall not show
-
partiality. And you shall not accept the
-
blind. For a blind blinds the eyes of
-
the wise and subverts the cause of the
-
righteous. Justice and only justice you
-
shall follow that you may live and the
-
land that the Lord your God is given
-
you. You ever wonder how all of our our
-
president even ones that come in with
-
only moderate wealth be
-
fabulously wealthy.
-
I mean they go into office and they got
-
$400,000 a year and then they leave
-
office with many many many millions of
-
dollars. How does that happen? How is it
-
the Congress people that that have just
-
been in in Congress their entire pretty
-
much their entire lives and never ran a
-
business, how can they have gazillion
-
dollars? How does that happen? Well,
-
here it is.
-
And God said that's not the way it's
-
supposed to be. You will judge with
-
impartiality and judgment.
-
specified that whether a stranger, a
-
foreigner or native born, whether rich
-
or poor, regardless, none of that
-
matters. The same laws to apply for
-
everyone. You ever notice how in the
-
declaration we hold these truths to be
-
self-evident that all men are created
-
equal? What does created equal mean?
-
We're not all equal. I mean, we're not
-
all equally handsome or tall or wealthy
-
or have equal life expenses. Everybody's
-
different. What way are we equal?
-
We're equal under the law. The concept
-
is that if it's if the same law should
-
apply to everyone, not the favor, your
-
favorite doesn't get treated different
-
than the one that you don't like. You
-
don't you're not supposed to treat if
-
you're a judge. Well, if you're a judge
-
and you have a relative before you, you
-
were supposed to not sit on that case.
-
But but even if you didn't know
-
somebody, not to favor people on the
-
basis of the color of skin, how wealthy
-
they are, or how poor they are.
-
Sometimes it goes the other way. Some
-
people favor the poor. They go, "Oh, I
-
feel so bad for them." And so they give
-
them a sentence because we're poor.
-
Look, this last couple years, we've had
-
stabbings and different things that
-
happened by somebody that had been in
-
prison many times and been let off the
-
hook. It's like, what's going on here?
-
This is an obvious
-
criminal. Why are they being led out to
-
stab people? Well, we have justice. When
-
you don't have god-fearing people
-
filling the positions of power in the
-
land, then they're going to show
-
favoritism.
-
There's going to be a system of bribery.
-
There's going to be wealthy corporations
-
to get government contracts. You're
-
going to have a large industrial
-
military complex, like I talked about
-
last week, uh, forcing, trying to buy
-
their way into war so they can make more
-
profits. This is why Christians must be
-
involved in government
-
because we need God-fearing people that
-
hate covetousness that that that fear
-
God that hate covetousness and
-
understand where rights come from and
-
morality comes from because if we vacate
-
those positions then the ungodly fulfill
-
them and and that doesn't mean everybody
-
who calls himself a Christian is not at
-
all. They need to be wise and
-
understanding and they truly fear God.
-
We need God.
-
We don't I don't I don't think we have
-
the people to fill those offices right
-
now. But, you know, I'm looking out at
-
young families and um I I think that we
-
have to look way off into the future. We
-
have to look into the coming
-
generations. We need to be raising up
-
children that are fit to be
-
that are fit to be rulers, that are
-
wise, that understand God's word, that
-
fear God, that hate coe that honest. It
-
will not take a bride. We need to
-
produce that kind of person. As you're
-
raising up your your child, you don't
-
know what God's future is for them. You
-
don't know what what God has for them or
-
what their gifting and proclivity will
-
be. But when it comes to integrity, you
-
should say, "I'm raising up my son, my
-
daughter to be fit to to handle this
-
republic, fit to rule, because we need
-
people that will not pervert justice,
-
that will not on the basis of the color,
-
skin or or whether a foreigner or native
-
born. It should be one law for everybody
-
and that's why they must not be um able
-
to be
-
everyone to be under law.
-
Now I I wonder what this Deuteronomy 16
-
because the next chapter chapter 17 I'm
-
skipping some verses that talk about
-
other issues but right away after it
-
talks about the the judges and officers
-
it talks about the executive branch
-
oh I skipped something else the
-
importance of of reasonable this is
-
another principle of law that that we
-
have from the scriptures it
-
All right, I'm skip that.

kind of a tier judiciary. We still got a
-
little bit Deuteronomy one talks about
-
how rulers of tens and hundreds and
-
thousands and a case was too hard it
-
would go right on up to the Supreme
-
Court. So in verse 8
-
requiring decision between one kind of
-
homicide another one kind of another or
-
one kind of assault another case within
-
your town that is too difficult for you.
-
Then you shall arise and go up to the
-
place that the Lord your God will choose
-
and you shall come to the priests and to
-
the judge who is in office in those days
-
and you shall consult them and they
-
shall declare to you the decision. Then
-
you shall do according to what they
-
declare to you from that place that the
-
Lord will choose and you shall be
-
careful to do all that they direct you.
-
Now, as time went on that this at the
-
beginning here, it was a judge and it
-
was the priest
-
because the priest was reading God's law
-
constantly and knew God's law and could
-
advise people on difficult cases because
-
their job was to constantly be reading
-
God's law. So, they became expert in the
-
law. Later on, they would have appointed
-
which became corrupt and ended up
-
drawing
-
falsely falsely putting them to death.
-
But they had seven people on the Supreme
-
Court who uh were were at the very top
-
of of the court system. If it was too
-
hard, the case was too hard, it would go
-
up to the Supreme Court. I don't know
-
what the appeals process was, but they
-
did have a Supreme Court when things
-
were not straightforward, it could go up
-
to them. And I think this may have may
-
have influenced our our founders. All
-
right. Verse 11. According to the
-
instructions they give you and according
-
to the decision which they pronounce to
-
you, you shall do. You shall not turn
-
aside from the verdict that they declare
-
to you, either to the right hand or to
-
the left. The man who acts
-
presumptuously by not obeying the priest
-
who stands to minister there before the
-
Lord your God or the judge, that man
-
shall die. So you shall pour the evil
-
from Israel, and all the people shall
-
hear and fear and not act presumptuously
-
again. I I see here a principle the rule
-
of law kind of thing and once all people
-
say why can't we just have somebody get
-
their tights and put on and go around
-
and justice themselves well that leads
-
to chaos we can't have vigan justice you
-
need you need to have the rule of law
-
and so if anybody rejected the rule of
-
law they were to be put together you
-
know it takes more than a pair of tights
-
it takes biblical wisdom and so God God
-
wanted um God had at the top uh the
-
instructions of the judge and the police
-
was to be obeyed. It was to be done in a
-
lawful and orderly way. This is to keep
-
chaos from ensuring nations that don't
-
have a wellestablished justice system.
-
Justice is just handled by whoever wants
-
to take it upon themselves. It leads to
-
chaos. It leads to
-
a lot of parts of the world today where
-
wars will go around and they they kill
-
whoever they choose because it's not
-
done under the rule of law. Now this is
-
the one the executive branch
-
the executive branch originally didn't
-
exist. It was just a republic but God
-
knew eventually they were going to have
-
an executive.
-
So in 17:14 down when you come to the
-
land that the Lord your God has given
-
you
-
and you possess it and dwell in it and
-
then say I will set a king over me like
-
all the nations that are around me. You
-
may indeed set a king over you whom the
-
Lord your God will one from among your
-
brothers. You shall set his king over
-
you. You may not put a foreigner over
-
you who is not your brother. So first
-
thing that's important here is she says
-
it needs to be someone from among your
-
brothers naturalborn citizen somebody
-
who is a a a citizen of Israel who has a
-
history has a vested interest in your
-
country at the time of of Christ there
-
was an Edomite Herod was sitting on the
-
throne of Israel and Israel was under
-
the tower of Rome because of the
-
disobedience God put them under foreign
-
power. But God said when you set a king
-
over you, he should be from among your
-
having your value and ethical system. I
-
um
-
this is this is something that you know
-
be interesting what'll happen in the
-
next election. There's already
-
candidates a lot of people are looking
-
at that aren't actually citizens. Maybe
-
we'll hear about it later. But the idea
-
being here is you want people and the
-
best interest in your country because we
-
don't want to be like all the other
-
nations of the world.
-
It's I remember years ago reading the
-
the Supreme Court decision for Roie Wing
-
through that decision and as I'm reading
-
the legal reasoning they they couldn't
-
find any justification the constitution
-
for abortion they said the numbers of
-
the constitution
-
and the shadowy it's not actually there
-
but we kind of can visualize it there.
-
But it was interesting to to read the
-
judge quoting the ancient Greeks, the
-
ancient Roman, quoting European court,
-
not American court, not American
-
founding documents, but foreign
-
governments, other gods, other belief
-
systems in order to justify the
-
murdering of a preborn child because you
-
can't constitutionally
-
validate murdering preborn children and
-
you definitely typically validate
-
murdering pre-born children because the
-
first inhalerable right is the right
-
they look elsewhere they look to foreign
-
courts and foreign governments
-
in even ancient history and that's why
-
one of the reason why God did not want
-
them putting a foreigner under or as
-
king because they didn't have the same
-
ethical system
-
you're one from among your brethren. He
-
had to be a naturalb born family member
-
in Israel. All right. Now talking about
-
the king says only he must only he must
-
not acquire many worship for himself or
-
cause the people to return to Egypt and
-
to acquire in order to acquire many
-
worship since the Lord has said to you
-
shall never return that way again. and
-
he shall not acquire wise for himself,
-
let his heart come away, nor shall he
-
acquire for himself excessive silver and
-
gold. So here went with this word
-
acquire. I like King James and I looked
-
it up in Hebrews 2. I like King James
-
better than this. I want to read it
-
again from King James. Instead of
-
acquire the word multiply. Let me read
-
again. Thou shalt set him king over you
-
over thee, whom the Lord your God shall
-
choose. One from among your brethren,
-
thou shalt set over thee. Thou may not
-
set a stranger over thee, which is not
-
thy brother, that he shall not multiply
-
horses to himself, nor cause the people
-
returned to Egypt to the end that he
-
should multiply horses. For as much as
-
the Lord said unto you, you shall
-
henceforth return no more that way.
-
Neither shall multiply wives to himself
-
that his heart turn away greatly
-
multiply to himself silver gold. So you
-
don't multiply chiefly three things.
-
You're not to multiply horses. You're
-
not to multiply wine. And you're not to
-
multiply silver and gold. Why? Why not
-
multiply horses? Well, horses were
-
for points,
-
for offensive warfare, for conquering
-
people. God did not want his people to
-
be the policemen of the world. He didn't
-
want Israel to be engaged in offensive
-
warfare. Now, when they were attacked,
-
they were to be brutal against the
-
people that attacked them. They were
-
given conditions, conditions of them. If
-
they didn't do it, they would they would
-
wipe out the men. They they uh but if
-
they didn't if they didn't submit to
-
then they would be put under tribute.
-
But God didn't want them to go out and
-
try to conquer a bunch of people. They
-
were a peaceful people. If they were
-
attacked, they were to fight back. But
-
they were not to be like the Assyians
-
and the Babylonians and the and the
-
Greeks who went out to conquer so that
-
they could liquidate people's assets and
-
fortunes and spread it amongst
-
themselves. God didn't want to be a
-
murderous nation. See, this is one of
-
the ideas of rule of law. It's wrong for
-
you as an indiv individual to murder.
-
Guess what? It's also wrong for the
-
collector, for the government to murder.
-
The same law applies whether you're a
-
king or an individual. It's wrong to
-
murder. You don't. It's wrong to steal.
-
It's wrong for you and I to steal. It's
-
wrong for the king to steal. It's wrong
-
for the government to steal. That is
-
wrong not just for individuals, but for
-
families, for street guns, for the local
-
city council, and for the the president
-
or anybody else. Theft is wrong. Murder
-
is wrong. And therefore, God didn't want
-
them to be the people that goes out and
-
murders people and steals their
-
multiply
-
welf
-
about an unsatisfied appetite. It's not.
-
It was about treaty and covenants with
-
four nations. Every time a king made a
-
treaty with another nation, we'll read
-
about I might read about a little bit
-
with Solomon. Solomon made all married
-
all these foreign wives. What is he
-
doing? He's making other
-
family now and we'll do business
-
together. You won't go to war with me
-
because I'm family and I won't go to war
-
with you because you're And so by
-
marrying all these wives, the Solomon
-
was making treaties with foreign power.
-
So there's a danger here not just in the
-
king marrying many wives and the
-
polygamous nature of it which everywhere
-
we read about polygamy in the scripture
-
something bad is happening and we see
-
the strife and the problems that go with
-
with a non you know non- monogous
-
marriage.
-
We read about Abraham's multiple wives
-
led to trouble. Jacob's multiple wives
-
led to trouble. David's multiple wives
-
led to trouble. Esau's multiple wives
-
led to trouble. Solomon's multiple wives
-
to trouble. We have a lot of pages of
-
scripture showing us that polygamy is a
-
really really bad idea. And Jesus says
-
that from the beginning it wasn't. So he
-
made the male and female shall become
-
one flesh. But aside from the the
-
corruption, the the adulterous nature of
-
of polygamy, um the the many foreign
-
trees would become a snail. Just like
-
foreign trees become climate, we make
-
foreign trees like World War I. I
-
remember learning about in high school.
-
The reason we got in World War I is all
-
all of Europe had foreign treaties with
-
each other. So that when one went to
-
war, they said, "Well, now we got to go
-
to work. we are shooting with these
-
people. Your problem becomes our
-
problem. Our founders of America, they
-
didn't want that. They they they adise
-
against
-
let they'll do their thing in times of
-
peace. We'll be friends. We'll do
-
business and in times of love we'll be
-
your enemies. But but really we want to
-
mind our own business. We want to be
-
engaged in the big conflict. Europe has
-
been at war for for a thousand years. We
-
don't want to be engaged in that. But
-
time Wilson came along,
-
uh, we had, uh, all kinds of trees for
-
four nations and we were drugged dragged
-
into World War I, which then led to
-
World War II and and now we're we're in
-
making deals and break them. I don't
-
know why any nation would honestly want
-
to make a treaty with America because
-
now we just break them all the time
-
to be
-
yeah
-
and then uh you can have liberty here
-
and everything's going to be great and
-
then we end up leaving. So we get
-
engaged in things
-
and people get slaughtered
-
not our businesses to begin with. God
-
didn't want his people
-
going and
-
kindled with Moabites and Philistines
-
and Ammonites and Egypt. He didn't want
-
him doing that. He wanted him to have uh
-
employee
-
yourself. But that's the idea behind
-
don't multiply or don't multiply wide is
-
so that you're not um engaging in all
-
these people.
-
You know, I'll say another thing about
-
war
-
on it again. War often times kills the
-
brightest and best of the
-
brave intelligent people become officers
-
and he's the first person you're going
-
to shoot.
-
Your greatest resource is your young
-
people. It's not about the money. And
-
it's just it's a it's a tragedy. I think
-
and I I actually listened to something
-
not long ago
-
sent me
-
how Europe has been in all these foreign
-
wars and uh their patent levels have
-
dropped down since World War II. Yeah.
-
The fact is dying on the battlefield.
-
It's a consequence. War is war is when
-
it's justified one side is right.
-
our side both both sides are wrong and
-
it's murdered. So we need to think very
-
greatly before we rush into war. And
-
then he says greatly multiplied to
-
himself silver and gold. What's that?
-
That's talking about taxation, big
-
government, a government that says, "We
-
can save you. We can solve your
-
problems. Look to us." I would rather
-
have uh strong families living in nice
-
houses than weak families and big
-
government,
-
right? I I would rather all of you have
-
nice air conditioned houses with plenty
-
of space for the kids to play than a big
-
pyramid in the middle of St. Louis.
-
on the horizon
-
and and God would ra that for his
-
people. But when the government when the
-
when it says that he shall not greatly
-
multiply silver and gold, this is this
-
is talking about oppressive tyrannical
-
temptation.
-
When the people want the government to
-
save them, they say, "Oh, give us free
-
stuff." What are you asking for? You're
-
asking the government to use their sword
-
to somebody else to give to you.
-
We have it because that's what the
-
American people want. Now, our
-
constitution was supposed to protect us
-
from that. But when people to take the
-
Lord, to take his word, um then you're
-
going to end up with tyranny. That's the
-
way it works. There's a um
-
a quote
-
to read earlier by John Adams. Our
-
constitution was made only for a moral
-
and religious people. It is wholly
-
inadequate to the government of any
-
other
-
moral and religious people. Why? Because
-
people are
-
envious and they're greedy and they want
-
what they didn't work for.
-
And and I'm not just trying to pick upon
-
the poor that maybe wants to services,
-
but there's also the other side. There's
-
the very wealthy that we use their
-
wealth to bribe the politicians to get
-
what they want. So the point isn't to
-
take on the rich or the poor. We're 1%
-
either direction. The point is that if
-
you don't have a godly nation that fears
-
God, that looks to our father who is in
-
heaven to give us our daily life. When
-
we lose sight of that, when people start
-
wanting the government to be their
-
savior, the provider gives education of
-
everything, then you're asking the
-
government to effectively die and that
-
is going to lead into
-
a consequence of it. Okay? So, they're
-
not to multiply horses. They're not to
-
multiply w to multiply gold and silver.
-
Look at this in verse 18.
-
the king said from the throne of his
-
kingdom he shall write for himself a
-
book a copy of this law approved by the
-
priest and it shall be with him and he
-
shall read it all the days of his life
-
that he may learn to fear Yahweh is God
-
by keeping all the words of this law and
-
these statutes and doing them that his
-
heart may not be lifted up above his
-
brother and that he may not from the
-
commandment either to the right hand or
-
to the left so that he may continue long
-
in his kingdom and his children in
-
Israel. So it's interesting he wasn't to
-
go out and buy a copy. He was to write a
-
copy and he had to have it approved by
-
somebody other than himself.
-
So this wasn't just for his personal
-
devotion. He has the king has to write
-
out a copy of the law which means what
-
he need to be able to read and write.
-
I'm going to be able to read like in
-
ancient Israel. The king should be able
-
to read and write. And then he would
-
take it to the priest and the priest
-
would say spelling error. Start over.
-
Grammar error. You messed up in your
-
copy of Deuteronomy.
-
And and he would write and in the
-
writing of it, if you've ever written
-
scripture, you you start noticing
-
details that when you just read it, you
-
flip over. He was to read it and he was
-
to meditate in it.
-
that this is the constitution.
-
The constitution of Israel was the
-
Torah.
-
So he says, you're bound by it. There's
-
a time when David is having the ark of
-
the covenant brought into Jerusalem. And
-
the Philistines had the ark of the
-
covenant for a little while in early.
-
And so they they put the they put the
-
arc of the covenant on a cart and they
-
they they tied the cart to um some
-
somewhat
-
and uh contrary to the nature of these
-
cows, these cows left their calves and
-
carried the ark of the government into
-
the borders of Israel. And they knew
-
that was God doing it because a cow
-
wouldn't leave their cows to carry an
-
array
-
with the cow. So they knew it was the
-
hand of God. So anyway, the cart is
-
there for many years. Eventually David
-
wants to bring the ark of covenant into
-
Jerusalem. So I thought, you know, let's
-
do it's very efficient. Let's just put
-
it on a cart like the Philistines. Let's
-
do what the world did. The world does
-
it. They got away with it. The
-
Philistines could put the ar of on a
-
card. But God didn't ordain for the ark
-
to be carried on a card. It had holes in
-
the side of it that poles could be as a
-
priest in the front and a priest in the
-
back carrying the cart.
-
Now, if the king had read the book of
-
law, he would know that.
-
And so, the cart is traveling along the
-
road and it gets unsteady and it starts
-
to fall over and a man named reaches out
-
to study the ark because he doesn't want
-
the ark to fall on the ground.
-
said he thought his hands were more holy
-
than the ground he was walking on. So
-
God stuck him dead. And the point of all
-
that, one of the points driven home is
-
is David David was very upset about it,
-
but he went and he read the law that the
-
ark was not to be carried on. It was
-
holy to be carried by the priest. So the
-
the king was being told that day, you're
-
supposed to know God's law. You're
-
supposed to know the constitution. This
-
is the constitution that the Hebrew king
-
swears to uphold.
-
That that's a very important thing. I've
-
been told that when Trump was in office,
-
he was used to swear put his hand on the
-
Bible and swear
-
like every president
-
that George Washington was the one that
-
didn't say that they have to put their
-
hand on the Bible, but George Washington
-
put his on the Bible and and uh and
-
swore to uphold the constitution. Well,
-
if if we were to actually keep the
-
constitution, our country will look very
-
different.
-
But I I suspect that many people who are
-
ruling over us, not serving us, but
-
ruling over us, never even read the
-
but the Israelite king was to make a
-
copy of it and he was to read it. all
-
the days of his life. It was to be
-
perpetual study. He was to be studying
-
the books of the law to know him
-
frontwards and backwards. So he could be
-
a wise decision maker that feared God
-
and he knew exactly what was because God
-
was letting him know you are under this
-
law. And because he was under this law,
-
he was not to be lifted up above his
-
brethren. So look at what it says. Says,
-
I'll read again verse 19. And it shall
-
be with them, and you shall read it all
-
the days of his life, that he may learn
-
to fear Yahweh Elohim by keeping all the
-
words of his law, and doing them, that
-
his heart may not be lifted up above his
-
brother, and that he may not turn aside
-
from the commandment either to the right
-
or to the left, so that he may continue
-
long in his kingdom, he and his children
-
in Israel. His heart was not to be
-
lifted upon his brother. Other He's a
-
civil servant.
-
He's not He's not He doesn't have a
-
divine right. He's a civil servant. He's
-
under God.
-
The two most popular books in 1776

the title Rex means the law is king. Not
-
the king is law, but the law is king.
-
And here's a very important concept that
-
the king, like the rest of us, is under
-
law. It's wrong for you and I to murder
-
and steal. It's wrong for him to murder
-
and steal. The same law. It's wrong for
-
us to commit adultery and to cheat and
-
to lie, and it's wrong for the civil
-
magistrates to lie. This is a concept of
-
constitutionalism that the rule of law
-
applies to everybody.
-
You know, I I I think there was lots of
-
evidence that Fouchy should have been
-
tried for murder. My my opinion, not
-
knowing all that, not having the case,
-
but that's my opinion. I think the man
-
should have been, from what I what I
-
gather, let's let me be terrible. It
-
seems highly probable to me. He should
-
have been prosecuted. Apparently, he's
-
not under law.
-
Apparently not.
-
And and this is a violation of ethics.
-
It's a violation of
-
It's a violation of concept of rule of
-
law. Nobody whether private or it should
-
be above the law.
-
We we had mixed for much less offenses
-
than many of the things that have gone
-
on in the decades since
-
we've lost sight of the concept of the
-
real law that the law is. You don't get
-
to do special things because you're
-
somebody's son or somebody's daddy.
-
One law for everybody. The heart of the
-
king is not to be lifted up above his
-
people. This is a biblical concept.
-
They're not to take bribes. They're not
-
to pervert justice. They're not to
-
respect the rich or the poor and
-
judgment. It's to be one law for
-
everybody. And the rule of law is to
-
govern. So what kind of people would
-
other than a godfearing
-
an honest a high trust society based
-
upon the fear of the Lord? I believe
-
this is why Adam warned us that
-
only for a moral and religious only for
-
a people that talks with selfgovernment.
-
If you're the kind of person that if you
-
can get away with it, you'll do it.
-
You're not fit to be in a republic,
-
not a constitutional republic
-
because when people don't practice self
-
and the chaos
-
leads to an outsg,
-
the bigger the government. The bigger
-
the government, the more The more taxes,
-
the less money you have for your family,
-
the less money you have to invest, the
-
less money you have to to have in the
-
godly over the god over the earth. It's
-
a byproduct.
-
It's a byproduct. A byproduct
-
of
-
all right. Now what ends up happening
-
with Israel
-
later on they live under republic for
-
500 years but they don't you read the
-
book of judges the theme in the book of
-
judges there was no king in Israel but
-
every man did what was right
-
everybody had their own little moral
-
compass and they did what they thought
-
and it led to chaos judges lots of
-
with the judges
-
like the wild cutting up concubines and
-
all over the body parts all over the
-
place and wild stuff.
-
Why is that? Because
-
every manuel
-
was the last of the judges of Israel.
-
And Samuel was the end of the period of
-
judges and the
-
He was a prophet. I want read a little
-
bit from firstap.
-
The name of his firstborn son was the
-
name of his second. They were judges.
-
Yet his sons did not walk in his will to
-
come after
-
justice. Then all the elders of Israel
-
gathered together and came to stand at
-
Rama and said to him, "Behold, you are
-
old and your sons do not walk in your
-
way. Now appoint us a king to judge us
-
like Paul."
-
So there's a lack of self-government in
-
the existing system. This leads to chaos
-
and corruption and that leads to the
-
people saying we need to change. We need
-
a revolution. We need something right.
-
It was a failure of self-government and
-
it was a failure of the judges to be
-
ethical people that led to the people
-
say give us a king
-
like all the other nations.
-
We want to be like all the other
-
nations. We want to be like Europe.
-
We want to be we want to be like France.
-
You want to be like this?
-
What? Why would you want to be like
-
those countries?
-
Visit Europe.
-
Live there for years. But my wife and
-
they live in tiny houses. They drive
-
tiny cars. They have
-
not near the
-
why why are we want to emulate Europe
-
that's grown so much in the last 250
-
years so greatly. Why would we want
-
other countries and model ourselves
-
after them.
-
Everybody has free healthare. I've been
-
I've
-
not great
-
European hospital. Not that great.
-
The thing when they said, "Give us a
-
king to judge us." Samuel prayed to the
-
Lord. The Lord said, "Obey the voice of
-
the people and all that they say to you.
-
not rejected you, but they have rejected
-
me from being king over them. According
-
to all the deeds that they have done
-
from the day I brought them out of the
-
land of Egypt, even to this day,
-
forsaken me and serve another god, for
-
they are also doing to you. Now then,
-
obey their voice, only you shall warn
-
them and show them the ways of the king
-
who shine over them. So God God has
-
Samuel warn them.
-
They haven't rejected you. They actually
-
rejected about 500 years. They keep they
-
want to be like all the nations around
-
them. They want to be like the world. By
-
the way, this is something we should say
-
to our children. When our children like
-
all the other kids do
-
everybody else gets to do this, yeah,
-
why do you want to be like all the other
-
nations?
-
Why do you want to do you're not you're
-
my son, you're my daughter. I'm not
-
you're this isn't about sanitization. We
-
serve the Lord. We don't do those
-
things.
-
But Israel was constantly wanting to be
-
like pagan and they
-
said okay fine do it but tell them what
-
kind of tell them what type of king
-
we're going to end up having. So Samuel
-
told all the words of the Lord to the
-
people who were asking for a king he
-
said these will be the ways of the king
-
who will reign over you. take your sons
-
and appoint them to chariot and to be
-
his horse and to run before chariot.
-
It's going to be a draft. Now, in God's
-
law, it's obeyed a draft. But then it
-
says there will be a draft. And God's
-
law, God said if anybody is a part, if
-
they just planted a vineyard, if they
-
just got married, if for any reason
-
somebody doesn't want to show up in the
-
battle, they could leave. They did not
-
have to serve. But but what I'm saying
-
is, you know what you're looking for?
-
wanted the government to to be your
-
provider.
-
If you if you're gonna if you want him
-
to be your ultimate protector, he's
-
going to have the power to take your
-
children and and pick them in further.
-
That's what's going to happen. Lord
-
permit them. He said, "This is what
-
you're going to conduct."
-
And verse four says, "And he will
-
appoint for himself commanders of
-
thousands, commanders of 50, and some to
-
plow his ground and to reap his harvest
-
and to make instruments of war and
-
equipment of his chariot. He will take
-
your daughters to be
-
and cooks and bakers. He will take the
-
best of your fields and vineyards and
-
otes and give them to the he of yours
-
and of your vineyards. He will give it
-
to his officers and to your servants. He
-
will take your male servants, the female
-
servants and the young men and your
-
donkeys and put them to work. Now, these
-
things are things that God
-
will take vineyard and he will be
-
condemned for it. God's not saying this
-
is lawful. He's saying you're really a
-
like all the other nations. This is
-
what's going to end up happening.
-
He will take a tenth of your flock and
-
you shall be a slave. And in that day,
-
you will cry out because of your king
-
and you have chosen for yourselves. But
-
the Lord will not answer you in that
-
day. The people refused to obey the
-
voice of Samuel. And they said, "No,
-
that they shall be a king over us, that
-
we also may be like all the nations, and
-
that our king may judge us and go out
-
before us and fight our battle." And
-
when Samuel had heard all the words of
-
the people, he repeated them in the
-
years of the Lord. And the Lord said to
-
Samuel, "Obey their voice and make them
-
a king and go every city." Now, what
-
this illustrates is like, "Oh, remember
-
George W. Bush saying that he believed
-
that the heart of all human beings
-
and on that would become a democracy and
-
self.
-
But if you read the scriptures actually
-
people prefer the security of slavery to
-
liberty because liberty takes
-
it takes the will of God in the hearts
-
of men. People want security. Israel
-
traded their liberty for
-
They wanted they wanted a government
-
that would provide for them that would
-
take care of them. And and as a result
-
when when your desire is for the
-
government to be your savior then you
-
then the government will end up being
-
your lord and dictator that that is what
-
will happen. That is why only a
-
self-governing godly people are fit to
-
live in a constitutional republic.
-
If we're not a godly people, people
-
going to look for the government. The
-
government's going to become retirement
-
and it's going to take what you have.
-
That's the pattern. It's only for a
-
moral and religious people, his holy
-
others. I was going to read to you about
-
the fall of Solomon. I won't read that.
-
It's a whole another thing to go into.
-
But very interesting that everything
-
that God told
-
uh told them they came to do, not to
-
multiply gold, not to multiply, not
-
If you read 10, it will discuss every
-
single one of those multipol
-
that's what would be happen.
-
So without self-government,
-
without self-government,
-
liberty cannot.
-
And if Christians aren't involved and
-
not just Christians only
-
so far
-
a little beat up in some
-
very
-
cannot long not what we have can't long
-
have it or what we have we've all we
-
don't even know how much we've lost here
-
you know my my father was born in 1925

to hear him took place in his life

since 2010 but um but without
-
reformation without righteousness but
-
the spirit of the word

liberty. But if you reject the word of

liberty, you will

need national

from the top to the bottom. We need

the nations of all the earth

and

father we thank you God. We thank you

Lord for the blessings that we still

enjoy.
