  5. My name is Vanessa Erickson and I am in the Alameda Parish.

  6. This is a reading from the book of Deuteronomy, verses 11 to 19.

  7. Now, what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.

  8. It is not up in the heaven so that you have to ask,

  9. who will ascend into heaven to get it and to proclaim it to us so that we may obey it.

  10. Nor is it beyond the sea so that you have to ask,

  11. who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so that we may obey it.

  12. No, the word is very near you.

  13. It is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.

  14. See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.

  15. For I command you today to love the Lord your God,

  16. to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees, and laws.

  17. Then you will live and increase,

  18. and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

  19. But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient,

  20. and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them,

  21. I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed.

  22. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

  23. This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you,

  24. that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.

  25. Now choose life so that you and your children may live

  26. and that you may love the Lord your God.

  27. Listen to his voice and hold fast to him.

  28. For the Lord is your life,

  29. and he will give you many years in the land.

  30. He swore to give your fathers,

  31. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  32. It just reminds me of Isaac,

  33. and how many times we heard him share God's word,

  34. primarily with his parents.

  35. The grass withers and the flowers fade,

  36. but the word of our God stands forever.

  37. Amen.

  38. So let me also say good morning, Christchurch.

  39. Good morning.

  40. And thank you, Pastor Jonathan, for inviting me to preach this today.

  41. I must say that this is very unusual for me,

  42. since English is not my language at all.

  43. So bear with me if I make a lot of mistakes.

  44. But I'm very happy to be here.

  45. Since we have family, my wife and I,

  46. Gabriel is our son,

  47. and we have our grandchildren here.

  48. And when we are in Sweden,

  49. we always think,

  50. it's wonderful to have grandchildren,

  51. but why so far away?

  52. So we try to make it once in a while.

  53. And now since we have had this corona business going on,

  54. it hasn't been possible to see each other that much.

  55. So we're very happy about

  56. the technical possibilities to at least communicate.

  57. It's, of course, a privilege to be here to preach

  58. and to do this in the concluding sermon

  59. in the long series of very important texts

  60. that I know that you have gone through this fall.

  61. I have not been able to listen to the entire series,

  62. but I have listened to a couple of sermons.

  63. And I'm impressed from what I've heard.

  64. You have done a wonderful journey

  65. through the book of Deuteronomy,

  66. and I hope it has deepened your appetite

  67. for studying the Old Testament.

  68. And I hope it has enlarged your knowledge

  69. about the relevance of this part of the Bible.

  70. And hopefully you have also understood

  71. that this rather anonymous book,

  72. at least judging from what my students in Sweden used to say.

  73. I hope that you have realized

  74. that this was a favorite of Jesus in Scripture,

  75. together with Psalms and Isaiah.

  76. But before going further into the text in more detail,

  77. let us once more pray together.

  78. Dear Heavenly Father,

  79. we pray today that you would open our eyes,

  80. our ears, and our minds

  81. so that we can see, hear, and perceive your voice

  82. in your own word.

  83. Help us listen to and follow your commands.

  84. Help us honor, love, serve, and obey you in everything.

  85. And let us, with your help, always choose life.

  86. Your life.

  87. The gift of eternal life.

  88. And we pray in Jesus' name.

  89. Amen.

  90. The portion of Scripture that we just listened to

  91. comes at the end of a long speech by Moses.

  92. The entire book of Deuteronomy is, of course,

  93. in a sense, the last will of the man

  94. who led the Israelites

  95. through the 40 years in the wilderness

  96. after coming out of Egypt.

  97. And now his mission has come to an end.

  98. He has done what he should do.

  99. And he summarizes his message to the people.

  100. And that is what we find in the book of Deuteronomy.

  101. His words are not new to his listeners.

  102. They've heard all of it before.

  103. And we may notice that Moses is not afraid

  104. of repeating himself.

  105. The final words of the paragraph

  106. preceding today's reading

  107. was the exhortation,

  108. Turn to the Lord your God

  109. with all your heart and with all your soul.

  110. Turn to the Lord your God

  111. with all your heart

  112. and with all your soul.

  113. And now today's text

  114. deepens the meaning of this

  115. in three steps.

  116. It's all about how to mature and grow

  117. as part of God's people.

  118. To mature and grow

  119. as part of God's people.

  120. The first step

  121. is to remember

  122. that God's word

  123. is accessible.

  124. The introductory words

  125. are quite revealing.

  126. It is by no means difficult

  127. to understand

  128. and do the will of God.

  129. It is by no means difficult

  130. to understand

  131. and do the will of God.

  132. God's commands

  133. are accessible.

  134. His will

  135. is no secret

  136. to anyone.

  137. And Moses

  138. underlines

  139. what he says

  140. by using two

  141. proverbial sayings.

  142. It is no need

  143. to search high

  144. going to heaven

  145. or far away

  146. going beyond the sea

  147. in order to find out

  148. what God expects

  149. from his own people.

  150. Moses,

  151. Moses,

  152. the word of God

  153. is very near you.

  154. It is in your mouth

  155. and in your heart

  156. so that you may

  157. obey it.

  158. The substance

  159. of the commandments

  160. is that the will

  161. of God

  162. is both

  163. reachable

  164. and doable

  165. for anyone

  166. who has turned

  167. to the Lord

  168. with all his

  169. or her heart.

  170. To again quote

  171. Moses.

  172. because anyone

  173. who turns

  174. to the Lord

  175. is also eager

  176. to learn

  177. by heart

  178. by heart

  179. the word of God.

  180. This is part

  181. of religion

  182. of faith

  183. in practice.

  184. Reading,

  185. memorizing,

  186. meditating

  187. on the word of God.

  188. It is letting

  189. God's word

  190. fill mind

  191. and heart

  192. but never

  193. letting it

  194. stop there.

  195. To know

  196. the will

  197. of God

  198. through his word

  199. is a good thing

  200. but it is not

  201. enough.

  202. It is not

  203. enough.

  204. The meaning

  205. of it all

  206. is that his word

  207. should lead

  208. to action.

  209. The rule

  210. is very simple.

  211. To know

  212. and to do.

  213. To know

  214. and to do.

  215. And if I

  216. pause there

  217. for a moment

  218. and add some

  219. comments

  220. to this first

  221. part of today's

  222. reading

  223. reading

  224. and I

  225. will try

  226. to relate

  227. it more

  228. directly to us.

  229. My first

  230. observation

  231. from my

  232. experience

  233. is that

  234. many of us

  235. seem to

  236. complicate

  237. things

  238. when it

  239. comes to

  240. understanding

  241. the word

  242. of God.

  243. In the

  244. scholarly world

  245. where I

  246. have spent

  247. much of my

  248. adult life

  249. it seems

  250. we have

  251. many times

  252. complicated

  253. the reading

  254. and interpretation

  255. of scripture

  256. to such

  257. a degree

  258. that we

  259. have lost

  260. the directness

  261. of the word.

  262. We have

  263. lost

  264. to understand

  265. the possibility

  266. or the will

  267. to understand

  268. the simple

  269. meaning

  270. of the words

  271. of the Bible.

  272. Well I know

  273. that there are

  274. difficult passages

  275. in the Bible

  276. but most

  277. of what we

  278. read

  279. is not

  280. difficult

  281. to understand.

  282. It might

  283. be difficult

  284. to agree

  285. upon

  286. or act

  287. upon

  288. since we

  289. live in a

  290. much more

  291. secularized

  292. society

  293. than that

  294. of the Bible.

  295. We are

  296. influenced

  297. by so many

  298. ideas

  299. and thoughts

  300. which are

  301. very foreign

  302. to the

  303. word

  304. or to

  305. the

  306. biblical

  307. thinking.

  308. But the

  309. word of

  310. God is

  311. not

  312. necessarily

  313. hard

  314. to

  315. understand.

  316. That is

  317. my first

  318. observation.

  319. My second

  320. observation

  321. has to do

  322. with the

  323. understanding

  324. of the

  325. words

  326. in Deuteronomy

  327. in the

  328. New Testament.

  329. When the

  330. apostle Paul

  331. comments on

  332. this passage

  333. in Romans

  334. 10,

  335. he knows

  336. that by

  337. letting

  338. Christ,

  339. who is

  340. the word,

  341. into your

  342. heart,

  343. this gives

  344. you salvation.

  345. And letting

  346. Christ,

  347. the word,

  348. into your

  349. heart,

  350. is simply

  351. becoming a

  352. Christian

  353. and believing

  354. in Christ.

  355. That gives

  356. you salvation.

  357. salvation.

  358. Christianity

  359. is not

  360. only a

  361. matter of

  362. knowledge,

  363. it is a

  364. matter of

  365. faith.

  366. Knowing

  367. Christ is

  368. good,

  369. but it's

  370. not enough.

  371. Knowing

  372. Christ in

  373. your heart,

  374. which is

  375. another word

  376. for faith,

  377. is necessary.

  378. That is

  379. what gives

  380. salvation.

  381. salvation.

  382. To quote

  383. Paul again

  384. in Romans

  385. 10,

  386. for it

  387. is with

  388. your heart

  389. that you

  390. believe and

  391. are justified.

  392. so then

  393. the first

  394. step to

  395. mature and

  396. grow as

  397. part of

  398. God's

  399. people is

  400. to never

  401. forget,

  402. never forget

  403. that God's

  404. word is

  405. accessible and

  406. that it is

  407. accessible and

  408. then to

  409. practice it by

  410. reading,

  411. memorizing,

  412. and meditating

  413. on it in

  414. order to

  415. act according

  416. to the

  417. word.

  418. Lord.

  419. So that

  420. is the

  421. first step

  422. I wanted

  423. to point

  424. out.

  425. The second

  426. step, and

  427. if you follow

  428. in your

  429. Bibles, that

  430. is from

  431. verse 15

  432. to 18,

  433. the second

  434. step is

  435. to make a

  436. decision to

  437. obey the

  438. Lord.

  439. When

  440. Moses

  441. instructed the

  442. Israelites how

  443. to think and

  444. act after

  445. arriving in

  446. the promised

  447. land, he

  448. put before

  449. them a

  450. choice between

  451. life and

  452. death.

  453. His words

  454. are sharp,

  455. seemingly

  456. without

  457. compromise.

  458. It is a

  459. matter of

  460. life and

  461. death,

  462. prosperity and

  463. destruction.

  464. Verse 15.

  465. Moses is

  466. well aware

  467. of the

  468. dangers in

  469. life, not

  470. least in a

  471. situation and

  472. community where

  473. there are

  474. other

  475. religions

  476. present.

  477. And that

  478. the Israelites

  479. knew from

  480. Egypt, and

  481. they will

  482. know it

  483. when they

  484. come into

  485. Canaan.

  486. And we,

  487. of course,

  488. know how

  489. right Moses

  490. was.

  491. The history

  492. of Israel

  493. is a

  494. history of

  495. constant

  496. idolatry,

  497. a history

  498. of forgetting

  499. constantly who

  500. is the true

  501. Lord and

  502. God.

  503. But it

  504. is also a

  505. history of

  506. God's constant

  507. calling of the

  508. chosen people to

  509. repent and to

  510. return to

  511. their Lord.

  512. So the

  513. speech of

  514. Moses is

  515. revealing and

  516. prophetic.

  517. And just

  518. like the

  519. other prophets

  520. in the Old

  521. Testament,

  522. Moses exhorts

  523. the people to

  524. keep to the

  525. Lord in

  526. all circumstances.

  527. In a

  528. sense, he

  529. summarizes what

  530. is meant by

  531. fearing the

  532. Lord and

  533. what the

  534. benefits of

  535. this fear

  536. are.

  537. It is to

  538. love the

  539. Lord, walk

  540. in his ways,

  541. and keep his

  542. commandments.

  543. Verse 16.

  544. All this

  545. leads to a

  546. blessed life.

  547. Idolatry,

  548. on the

  549. contrary,

  550. leads to

  551. destruction.

  552. And we

  553. can see that

  554. Moses even

  555. foresees that

  556. in the future

  557. the promised

  558. land will

  559. be taken

  560. away from

  561. the people.

  562. Not because

  563. of God's

  564. will, but

  565. because of

  566. the disobedience

  567. of God's

  568. people.

  569. life is

  570. not

  571. now, thinking

  572. of ourselves,

  573. we know that

  574. life is not

  575. totally black

  576. and white.

  577. And we

  578. know from

  579. other parts

  580. of the

  581. Bible, and

  582. probably from

  583. our own

  584. experience, that

  585. life is not

  586. always easy

  587. to live.

  588. Blessing

  589. cannot be

  590. ordered,

  591. but it can

  592. be prayed

  593. for.

  594. blessing is

  595. no automatic

  596. phenomenon

  597. that simply

  598. comes as a

  599. result of

  600. obedience.

  601. But we

  602. do know

  603. that

  604. disobedience

  605. very seldom

  606. has any

  607. good results.

  608. That we

  609. know, and

  610. history

  611. confirms our

  612. knowledge.

  613. knowledge.

  614. What we

  615. have here

  616. in the

  617. words of

  618. Moses is

  619. in a

  620. sense a

  621. guide for

  622. how to

  623. relate to

  624. God as

  625. part of

  626. his people.

  627. And it

  628. can be

  629. summed up

  630. in four

  631. simple

  632. words.

  633. To

  634. honor or

  635. fear God.

  636. The Hebrew

  637. word is

  638. double in

  639. meaning.

  640. Fearing God

  641. is more

  642. giving honor

  643. to him than

  644. being afraid

  645. of him.

  646. Even if

  647. there are

  648. times

  649. when there

  650. is good

  651. reason also

  652. to fear in

  653. the sense

  654. of being

  655. afraid.

  656. But honor

  657. is mainly

  658. giving,

  659. honoring is

  660. the basic

  661. meaning of

  662. the word.

  663. That is the

  664. first word.

  665. The second

  666. word is to

  667. love God.

  668. And love

  669. in the Bible

  670. is less a

  671. matter of

  672. very special

  673. thrilling

  674. emotions and

  675. more a

  676. matter of

  677. loyalty and

  678. faithfulness.

  679. We know

  680. that.

  681. The third

  682. word is to

  683. serve God.

  684. And serving

  685. God is

  686. paradoxically

  687. often to

  688. serve people

  689. in need.

  690. And it

  691. has rightfully

  692. been said

  693. that we

  694. as his

  695. people are

  696. the hands

  697. and the

  698. feet of

  699. the Lord.

  700. And the

  701. fourth word

  702. to obey,

  703. to obey

  704. God.

  705. God.

  706. And this

  707. is of

  708. course

  709. stressed in

  710. today's

  711. Bible

  712. reading.

  713. And I

  714. will return

  715. to it in

  716. a moment.

  717. We have

  718. the words

  719. like,

  720. to walk

  721. in his

  722. that is

  723. the Lord's

  724. way and

  725. to keep

  726. his

  727. commandments,

  728. decrees,

  729. and laws.

  730. Verse 16.

  731. So as

  732. Christians,

  733. we are

  734. called to

  735. walk in

  736. God's

  737. ways and

  738. obey the

  739. will of

  740. God.

  741. What that

  742. is, we

  743. know from

  744. him who

  745. himself is

  746. the way

  747. and who

  748. was obedient

  749. to his

  750. father until

  751. death.

  752. I think

  753. that St.

  754. Paul sums

  755. up our

  756. calling in

  757. the letter

  758. to the

  759. Philippians

  760. in the

  761. simple

  762. sentence,

  763. your

  764. attitude

  765. should be

  766. the same

  767. as that

  768. of Christ

  769. Jesus.

  770. Your

  771. attitude,

  772. your

  773. and mine,

  774. should be

  775. the same

  776. as that

  777. of Christ

  778. Jesus.

  779. And then

  780. he continues

  781. by describing

  782. the life

  783. of Jesus

  784. from his

  785. being with

  786. the Father

  787. in the

  788. heavens.

  789. And then

  790. coming

  791. down,

  792. giving his

  793. life on

  794. the cross,

  795. and followed

  796. again by

  797. God's

  798. exaltation

  799. of him

  800. back to

  801. his heavenly

  802. throne at

  803. the side

  804. of the

  805. Father.

  806. where he

  807. now is

  808. praying for

  809. us.

  810. And it

  811. is, of

  812. course, no

  813. coincidence that

  814. Paul, in the

  815. letter to the

  816. Romans, writes

  817. about the

  818. Christian faith

  819. in terms of

  820. obedience.

  821. Obedience.

  822. When he, in

  823. the beginning of

  824. the letter, talks

  825. about his own

  826. mission as an

  827. apostle, he

  828. says that it

  829. is to call

  830. people from

  831. among all the

  832. Gentiles to

  833. the obedience

  834. that comes

  835. from faith.

  836. So the

  837. second step

  838. to mature

  839. and grow

  840. as part of

  841. God's people

  842. is to learn

  843. obedience,

  844. obedience to

  845. the Lord,

  846. and to make

  847. a decision to

  848. follow him

  849. by honoring,

  850. loving,

  851. and serving

  852. him.

  853. God's

  854. God's

  855. life.

  856. That leads

  857. me to the

  858. third step,

  859. mainly seen

  860. in the two

  861. last verses

  862. of today's

  863. reading.

  864. conclusion.

  865. Concluding his

  866. long speech

  867. or sermon

  868. to the

  869. Israelites,

  870. Moses once

  871. more challenges

  872. his listeners

  873. to make a

  874. choice.

  875. And again,

  876. and he repeats

  877. himself,

  878. it is a matter

  879. of life and

  880. death.

  881. In a sense,

  882. what he says

  883. is again nothing

  884. new.

  885. It is a

  886. repetition of

  887. what he has

  888. already said,

  889. but it

  890. underlines the

  891. message he's

  892. conveying to

  893. the people.

  894. The importance

  895. is further

  896. underlined by

  897. the fact that

  898. he this time

  899. takes heaven

  900. and earth

  901. as witnesses

  902. against the

  903. people.

  904. And heaven

  905. and earth,

  906. of course,

  907. meaning everything

  908. that comes from

  909. the creator

  910. of it all.

  911. So what he

  912. is doing is

  913. that he's

  914. taking God

  915. himself as

  916. a witness.

  917. And the

  918. alternatives are

  919. distinctly

  920. stated.

  921. Life and

  922. death,

  923. blessing,

  924. and curse.

  925. And we

  926. could add

  927. belief or

  928. unbelief.

  929. The choice,

  930. says Moses,

  931. is up to

  932. the people.

  933. And what

  934. they choose

  935. will have

  936. consequences

  937. not only for

  938. themselves,

  939. but also for

  940. their children.

  941. The people

  942. are given a

  943. choice.

  944. from the

  945. side of God,

  946. the decision

  947. is already

  948. made.

  949. He has

  950. chosen them

  951. to be his

  952. people.

  953. Now they

  954. are challenged

  955. to do their

  956. choice,

  957. a choice

  958. which will

  959. show itself

  960. in the way

  961. the people

  962. think and

  963. act.

  964. therefore they

  965. are urged

  966. to love

  967. the Lord,

  968. listen to

  969. his voice,

  970. and hold

  971. fast to

  972. him.

  973. In the

  974. last verse,

  975. this only,

  976. this only

  977. will lead

  978. to life,

  979. for the

  980. Lord is

  981. your life,

  982. as Moses

  983. says.

  984. So the

  985. message also,

  986. this last

  987. part of

  988. the text

  989. is clear.

  990. Choose the

  991. Lord to be

  992. your God.

  993. Choose life.

  994. And I

  995. think that

  996. this message

  997. is as

  998. important

  999. today as

  1000. it was

  1001. when it

  1002. was first

  1003. presented.

  1004. We,

  1005. all,

  1006. the people

  1007. of God

  1008. today,

  1009. we also

  1010. need to

  1011. make the

  1012. same

  1013. choice

  1014. over and

  1015. over again.

  1016. We know

  1017. that life

  1018. at large

  1019. is filled

  1020. with small

  1021. and big

  1022. choices we

  1023. have to

  1024. make.

  1025. Some of

  1026. them are

  1027. more important

  1028. than others.

  1029. Some are

  1030. easy to

  1031. make,

  1032. others are

  1033. more difficult.

  1034. But there

  1035. is one

  1036. choice,

  1037. there is

  1038. one choice

  1039. which

  1040. determines

  1041. more of

  1042. our life

  1043. than anything

  1044. else.

  1045. and going

  1046. back in

  1047. my own

  1048. life,

  1049. I learned

  1050. about this

  1051. decisive

  1052. choice early

  1053. in my

  1054. life.

  1055. I grew

  1056. up on a

  1057. farm in

  1058. the northern

  1059. part of

  1060. Sweden,

  1061. in a

  1062. small rural

  1063. community.

  1064. My parents

  1065. were Christians

  1066. and my

  1067. siblings and

  1068. I were

  1069. brought up

  1070. in that

  1071. faith.

  1072. faith.

  1073. When I

  1074. was in

  1075. my

  1076. teens,

  1077. I was

  1078. part of

  1079. a youth

  1080. group in

  1081. our

  1082. church.

  1083. We were

  1084. not a

  1085. very large

  1086. group,

  1087. but we

  1088. met once

  1089. a week

  1090. for singing,

  1091. Bible study,

  1092. and different

  1093. programs.

  1094. And I

  1095. must admit

  1096. that most

  1097. of what we

  1098. did I

  1099. have forgotten.

  1100. Isn't

  1101. that life

  1102. too?

  1103. But there's

  1104. one thing

  1105. that I

  1106. remember.

  1107. It was a

  1108. song that

  1109. we often

  1110. sung.

  1111. And I

  1112. won't sing

  1113. it for you

  1114. because that's

  1115. not my

  1116. gift.

  1117. But in

  1118. translation it

  1119. says,

  1120. choose now,

  1121. choose Jesus,

  1122. and choose

  1123. for life.

  1124. Choose now,

  1125. choose Jesus,

  1126. and choose

  1127. for life.

  1128. preparing this

  1129. sermon back

  1130. in Sweden,

  1131. those words

  1132. have been

  1133. ringing in

  1134. my head.

  1135. Choose now,

  1136. choose Jesus,

  1137. and choose

  1138. for life.

  1139. And looking

  1140. back on my

  1141. life, I

  1142. realize that

  1143. the choice

  1144. I myself

  1145. made as a

  1146. teenager to

  1147. follow Jesus

  1148. has had an

  1149. enormous effect

  1150. on my life.

  1151. and it

  1152. has affected

  1153. my entire

  1154. life

  1155. to something

  1156. good.

  1157. So when

  1158. we read

  1159. and listen

  1160. to the

  1161. words in

  1162. today's

  1163. Bible

  1164. reading,

  1165. and the

  1166. theme of

  1167. this sermon,

  1168. we can

  1169. actually forget

  1170. most of

  1171. what has

  1172. been said.

  1173. God

  1174. will

  1175. stay in

  1176. your mind,

  1177. or to

  1178. speak

  1179. biblically

  1180. in your

  1181. heart.

  1182. Choose

  1183. life,

  1184. choose

  1185. Jesus.

  1186. And doing

  1187. so,

  1188. you will

  1189. experience

  1190. that Christian

  1191. belief,

  1192. or choosing

  1193. to believe,

  1194. is actually

  1195. dependent

  1196. on the

  1197. fact that

  1198. God

  1199. himself

  1200. first

  1201. chose

  1202. us.

  1203. And I

  1204. quote from

  1205. the Gospel

  1206. of John,

  1207. Jesus'

  1208. own words,

  1209. you did

  1210. not choose

  1211. me,

  1212. but I

  1213. chose you,

  1214. and appointed

  1215. you to go

  1216. and bear

  1217. fruit.

  1218. John

    John 15:16

  1219. chapter 15,

  1220. verse 16.

  1221. So our

  1222. choice

  1223. is in

  1224. reality

  1225. an answer

  1226. to God's

  1227. or Jesus'

  1228. choosing of

  1229. us.

  1230. The Lord

  1231. is always

  1232. a step

  1233. ahead of

  1234. us.

  1235. And the

  1236. life we

  1237. are urged

  1238. to choose

  1239. is the

  1240. eternal

  1241. life,

  1242. since

  1243. it is

  1244. a life

  1245. given by

  1246. him who

  1247. is himself

  1248. eternal.

  1249. So that

  1250. was the

  1251. third step

  1252. in this

  1253. text,

  1254. and it

  1255. summarizes

  1256. what I

  1257. wanted to

  1258. say today.

  1259. So let

  1260. me conclude

  1261. with two

  1262. short

  1263. quotes from

  1264. the text

  1265. in Deuteronomy

  1266. 30.

  1267. The

  1268. Lord,

  1269. and here

  1270. we can see

  1271. that the

  1272. meaning of

  1273. the Lord

  1274. is both

  1275. God

  1276. and Jesus.

  1277. Jesus,

  1278. the Lord

  1279. is your

  1280. life,

  1281. the Lord

  1282. is your

  1283. life,

  1284. and then

  1285. the words,

  1286. now

  1287. choose

  1288. life.

  1289. Choose

  1290. now,

  1291. choose

  1292. Jesus,

  1293. and choose

  1294. for life.

  1295. God

  1296. is your

  1297. life.

  1298. That, I

  1299. think, is

1300. today's message, and a greeting from God himself to all his people, including us,

1301. who are gathered here at Christ's church today.

  1302. Amen.

  1303. Amen.

  1304. Amen.

  1305. Amen.

  1306. Amen.

  1307. Amen.

  1308. Amen.

  1309. Amen.

  1310. Amen.

  1311. Amen.

  1312. Amen.

  1313. Amen.

  1314. Amen.

  1315. Amen.

  1316. Amen.

  1317. Amen.

  1318. Amen.

  1319. Amen.

  1320. Amen.

  1321. Amen.

  1322. Amen.

  1323. Amen.

  1324. Amen.

  1325. Amen.

  1326. Amen.

  1327. Amen.

  1328. Amen.

  1329. Amen.

  1330. Amen.

  1331. Amen.

  1332. Amen.

  1333. Amen.

  1334. Amen.

  1335. Amen.

  1336. Amen.

  1337. Amen.

  1338. Amen.

  1339. Amen.

  1340. Amen.

  1341. Amen.

  1342. Amen.

  1343. Amen.

  1344. ope Amen.

  1345. Amen.

  1346. Amen.

  1347. Amen.
