  5. The Old Testament reading for tonight, a reading from the prophet Isaiah, chapter 9, verses 2 through 7.

    Isaiah 9:2–7

  6. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.

  7. Those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shone.

  8. You have multiplied the nation. You have increased its joy.

  9. They rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil.

  10. For the yoke of his burden and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor,

  11. you have broken, as on the day of Midian.

  12. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult,

  13. and every garment rolled in blood, will be burned as fuel for the fire.

  14. For to us a child is born.

  15. To us a son is given.

  16. And the government shall be upon his shoulder.

  17. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  18. Of the increase of his government and peace, there will be no end.

  19. On the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness,

  20. from this time forth and forevermore.

  21. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

  22. The grass withers and the flowers fade.

  23. But the word of our God stands forever.

  24. This is a reading from the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 2, verses 1 through 12.

    Matthew 2:1–12

  25. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod,

  26. Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked,

  27. Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews?

  28. We saw his star when it rose, and have come to worship him.

  29. When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.

  30. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and the teachers of the law,

  31. he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.

  32. In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied,

  33. For this is what the prophet has written.

  34. But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,

  35. are by no means least among the rulers of Judah.

  36. For out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israel.

  37. Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.

  38. He sent them to Bethlehem and said,

  39. Go and search carefully for the child.

  40. As soon as you find him, report to me,

  41. so that I too may go and worship him.

  42. After they had heard the king, they went on their way,

  43. and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them

  44. until it stopped over the place where the child was.

  45. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

  46. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary,

  47. and they bowed down and worshipped him.

  48. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

  49. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod,

  50. they returned to their country by another route.

  51. This is the Gospel of the Lord.

  52. Merry Christmas to you all.

  53. It's very good to see you tonight.

  54. If you are coming tonight with a family member or a friend as a guest,

  55. I want you to know that you are very warmly welcomed here.

  56. This is a mixed crowd spiritually

  57. in that some of us are exploring Christianity

  58. and the claims about Jesus Christ or by Jesus Christ for the first time.

  59. Some of us are reengaging with the church and with Christian faith

  60. after a season away because of the pandemic

  61. or because of a move or some other challenge in your life.

  62. Some of us are here tonight to worship Christ.

  63. We have settled Christian beliefs and values.

  64. Some of you are here tonight because a family member or a friend invited you

  65. and your being here tonight is the main Christmas present you're giving to them.

  66. And so we want to say that we're truly glad that you've come.

  67. Whether you identify as a skeptic or were raised in another faith,

  68. you're a spiritual seeker or someone who's exploring Christianity,

  69. it's important, I think, for all of us to know why it is

  70. that 2.3 billion people around the world are celebrating the birth of Christ tonight.

  71. To know what those people believe and why.

  72. So at a minimum, we can be culturally literate

  73. and have some intelligible conversations over this holiday season.

  74. That's my minimal goal, but I do hope to do more than that tonight

  75. to perhaps awaken faith and kindle some hope and love in you as well.

  76. This past month at Christ Church, we've been exploring various carols of Christmas,

  77. some of which we just sang.

  78. And our final carol tonight, you can see printed just after the gospel text,

  79. it opens with this question,

  80. What child is this?

  81. What child is this?

  82. And the answer in the first stanza is this,

  83. this is Christ the King,

  84. whom shepherds guard and angels sing.

  85. And what that tells us is that

  86. the real meaning of Christmas is about a royal birth.

  87. It's about a coming monarch.

  88. It's about the arrival of a sovereign.

  89. And I want to draw our attention back to that Old Testament lesson

  90. we just read from the prophet Isaiah,

  91. who's speaking and writing 700 years before this birth,

  92. and he's foretelling the coming of the Messiah,

  93. this anointed king.

  94. And he says there in Isaiah 9, 6,

  95. I encourage you to look at it again,

  96. he says,

  97. For unto us a child is born,

  98. and to us a son is given.

  99. He says there will be a child

  100. that's born from a human mother,

  101. and who will also be a son given from God.

  102. So who is this human-born child?

  103. Who is this God-given son?

  104. And what will he come to do?

  105. And I want to just explore that question tonight

  106. through this Christmas carol

  107. and through this scripture that inspired the carol.

  108. So allow me to read this carol once again.

  109. If it's not fresh for us,

  110. I'll read it for us.

  111. What child is this who laid to rest

  112. on Mary's lap is sleeping,

  113. whom angels greet with anthems sweet

  114. while shepherds watch are keeping?

  115. This, this is Christ the King

  116. whom shepherds guard and angels sing.

  117. Haste, haste to bring him laud,

  118. the babe, the son of Mary.

  119. Why lies he in such mean estate

  120. where ox and lamb are feeding?

  121. Good Christian fear for sinners

  122. here the silent word is pleading.

  123. Nails, spears shall pierce him through.

  124. The cross be born for me, for you.

  125. Hail, hail, the word made flesh,

  126. the babe, the son of Mary.

  127. So bring him incense, gold and myrrh.

  128. Come, peasant king, to own him.

  129. The king of kings salvation brings.

  130. Let loving hearts enthrone him.

  131. Raise, raise a song on high.

  132. The virgin sings her lullaby.

  133. Joy, joy, for Christ is born,

  134. the babe, the son of Mary.

  135. I just want to explore this carol

  136. and reflect on it for a moment.

  137. Going through these three stanzas,

  138. I want to just say that the child is a king,

  139. the king is lowly,

  140. and his kingdom is forever.

  141. The child is a king,

  142. the king is lowly,

  143. and his kingdom is forever.

  144. First of all, the child is a king.

  145. The prophet Isaiah says there in 9 verse 6,

  146. he says the government will be on his shoulders.

  147. This child that's coming is going to bear

  148. executive authority and power.

  149. He's going to exercise sovereignty and supremacy.

  150. And we all know, you know,

  151. if you've seen the crown,

  152. you have to, when you enter a royal court,

  153. you have to abide by protocol

  154. protocol for her majesty or his majesty.

  155. And so what is the throne name

  156. of this king who's coming?

  157. How does this,

  158. what should we be calling him?

  159. And how does this indicate

  160. the nature of his coming rule

  161. and his reign?

  162. And so the prophet Isaiah

  163. answers that question for us.

  164. He says,

  165. his name shall be called

  166. Wonderful Counselor,

  167. Mighty God,

  168. Everlasting Father,

  169. Prince of Peace.

  170. His name stands for who he is

  171. and what he does.

  172. And so first of all,

  173. we learn here that the coming king

  174. will be a wonderful counselor.

  175. Wonderful here in Hebrew,

  176. it has a sense of supernatural

  177. or wonder working.

  178. In the Bible,

  179. God and God alone

  180. is the wonderful counselor

  181. because he sees the end

  182. from the beginning.

  183. He created the world after all

  184. and he has a supernatural plan

  185. to save it.

  186. He's got a wonder working program

  187. of redemption

  188. for all the nations of the world.

  189. And so it seems here

  190. that God,

  191. the wonderful counselor,

  192. is entrusting his eternal counsel

  193. to his Messiah.

  194. And this Messiah will come

  195. and he will bring this supernatural plan.

  196. He will bring this wonder working program

  197. to the world.

  198. And when he does that,

  199. he will be the wisest,

  200. the greatest,

  201. the final word

  202. that God has ever given to humanity.

  203. He'll come

  204. and he'll teach authoritative truth

  205. about God

  206. and about the human heart

  207. and about the deepest problem

  208. of our world.

  209. And it will be said of him,

  210. in him are hidden

  211. all the treasures of wisdom

  212. and of knowledge.

  213. He'll be the wonderful counselor.

  214. But in this coming king,

  215. we not only have

  216. a wonderful counselor,

  217. we have the mighty God.

  218. This child born of a woman

  219. will also be like

  220. the God of Israel.

  221. He'll be as mighty

  222. as the one who created the universe

  223. with a word saying,

  224. let there be light

  225. and bang,

  226. there was light.

  227. He will be so powerful.

  228. He'll be as powerful

  229. as the one

  230. who delivered his people

  231. from slavery

  232. and oppression

  233. in Egypt.

  234. Right?

  235. Because that's what mighty means.

  236. Mighty refers to

  237. this strong warrior,

  238. this champion

  239. who fights

  240. and wins battles

  241. on behalf of

  242. and in place of

  243. his people

  244. to set them free

  245. from bondage

  246. and from their enemies.

  247. So in the Messiah,

  248. this mighty God will come

  249. and he will have power

  250. to put this wonder-working

  251. counsel of God

  252. into effect.

  253. He will have an authority

  254. to execute God's

  255. eternal plan

  256. of salvation,

  257. this program

  258. of redemption

  259. to set people free.

  260. This coming king

  261. is the wonderful counselor.

  262. He's the mighty God

  263. and it says

  264. he's also the everlasting father.

  265. When the Messiah comes

  266. as the wonderful counselor

  267. with plans

  268. for the whole wide world

  269. and when he comes

  270. as the mighty God

  271. with divine power

  272. to set human beings

  273. free from their bondage,

  274. he will make us

  275. God's children

  276. and he will exercise

  277. God the Father's

  278. goodness and care

  279. for his family.

  280. He'll protect

  281. and provide

  282. for his people

  283. as a father protects

  284. and provides

  285. for his children.

  286. This coming king

  287. will be

  288. the wonderful counselor,

  289. the mighty God,

  290. the everlasting father,

  291. and he'll also be

  292. the prince of peace.

  293. He's a monarch,

  294. he's a sovereign

  295. who is able to bring

  296. peace and prosperity

  297. to his dominion

  298. and in particular

  299. this Messiah

  300. will bring shalom

  301. between God

  302. and human beings.

  303. Though we ignore God,

  304. though we disregard God,

  305. though we resist God,

  306. though we oppose God,

  307. though sometimes we're even

  308. hostile to God

  309. as an enemy,

  310. this prince of peace

  311. is coming

  312. to reconcile us

  313. to God.

  314. Question,

  315. what child is this?

  316. Answer,

  317. this,

  318. this is Christ,

  319. the king,

  320. this child born

  321. of a woman,

  322. the son given

  323. from God,

  324. the one who will bear

  325. the government

  326. of the universe

  327. on his shoulders,

  328. this king

  329. with four names.

  330. Ultimately,

  331. every knee

  332. is going to bow

  333. before him

  334. and every tongue

  335. is going to confess

  336. that he,

  337. the wonderful counselor,

  338. mighty God,

  339. everlasting father,

  340. prince of peace,

  341. is the Lord of all.

  342. And that's why

  343. this carol says,

  344. haste, haste

  345. to bring him laud,

  346. the babe,

  347. the son of Mary.

  348. In other words,

  349. don't hold back.

  350. Don't hold back

  351. in bringing him

  352. your praise

  353. and your worship

  354. tonight

  355. and in this Christmas season

  356. and the rest

  357. of the short time

  358. that God gives you

  359. on this earth.

  360. The child is a king.

  361. And more than that,

  362. the child is a king

  363. but the king

  364. is lowly.

  365. The king

  366. is lowly.

  367. Stanza two

  368. of our carols says,

  369. why lies he

  370. in such mean estate

  371. where ox and lamb

  372. are feeding?

  373. In other words,

  374. why is this child

  375. who's born,

  376. this son who's given,

  377. this king with four names,

  378. why in the world

  379. is he in a manger?

  380. Why is he in an animal

  381. feed trough?

  382. Why is he not

  383. in a palace

  384. on a grand estate

  385. encircled by magistrates

  386. and military generals

  387. and world class scholars?

  388. Why isn't he in a place

  389. that's more fitting

  390. for a king

  391. of this stature

  392. and of this nature?

  393. Why is he born here

  394. in obscurity

  395. among the working class?

  396. Now,

  397. on the way

  398. over here tonight,

  399. I saw a car

  400. with a bumper sticker

  401. that said,

  402. elections matter.

  403. And,

  404. as I think you know,

  405. there's an election

  406. coming up in 2024.

  407. And I'm sure

  408. that's why you came tonight

  409. to hear me

  410. talk about politics,

  411. right?

  412. Right?

  413. Politicians

  414. over the course

  415. of this next year

  416. on the left

  417. and the right

  418. are going to present

  419. themselves

  420. with great fanfare

  421. as the answer

  422. to all of our problems

  423. and as the key

  424. to all of our prosperity.

  425. And as they do that,

  426. they're going to project

  427. an image of strength

  428. to us.

  429. They're going to project

  430. an image of competence

  431. and charisma

  432. in an effort

  433. to win our votes.

  434. But I want to point out

  435. tonight that God's ways

  436. are not our ways

  437. or God's ways

  438. are at least not

  439. our politicians' ways.

  440. Because what's

  441. the characteristic mark

  442. of this Prince of Peace's

  443. rule and reign?

  444. From day one,

  445. he's marked

  446. by lowliness.

  447. He's marked

  448. by humility.

  449. He's marked

  450. by downward mobility.

  451. Not only

  452. does this Messiah

  453. leave behind

  454. his heavenly glory,

  455. not only does he

  456. stoop down

  457. to veil himself

  458. in human flesh,

  459. and not only

  460. does he lower himself

  461. into this manger throne,

  462. but he lives

  463. a whole life,

  464. a whole lifetime

  465. of lowliness.

  466. And that lifetime

  467. of lowliness

  468. climaxes on what?

  469. On a Roman cross.

  470. The ultimate symbol

  471. of lowliness,

  472. of humiliation,

  473. the ultimate declaration

  474. that he is,

  475. in fact,

  476. a nobody

  477. and a nothing.

  478. Some of you might say,

  479. well,

  480. bah humbug to

  481. all of this talk.

  482. Why in the world

  483. would you sour

  484. the happiness

  485. of Christmas

  486. by singing

  487. this line,

  488. nails,

  489. spears,

  490. shall pierce him

  491. through the cross,

  492. be born for me,

  493. for you?

  494. Why can't you just

  495. leave that

  496. to a good Friday?

  497. You're kind of like

  498. the Grinch,

  499. just stealing

  500. and ruining

  501. our Christmas.

  502. Just let us enjoy,

  503. just for tonight,

  504. a sentimentalized

  505. and sanitized

  506. version of Christmas

  507. with this cute,

  508. cuddly little baby

  509. Jesus.

  510. Don't we all want

  511. that a little bit?

  512. No nails,

  513. no spears,

  514. no cross,

  515. no blood,

  516. no death.

  517. But friends,

  518. that would cut

  519. the heart

  520. right out of Christmas.

  521. We would be

  522. forgetting why

  523. the world

  524. needed a Messiah

  525. to be born at all.

  526. This Christmas carol

  527. is reminding us

  528. that the Prince of Peace

  529. was born to die.

  530. And the way

  531. that this Prince

  532. will bring peace,

  533. the way that he

  534. will reconcile

  535. us to God

  536. will be to take

  537. our place

  538. as our substitute

  539. on that cross.

  540. That's why

  541. the Prince of Peace

  542. came,

  543. not to bring

  544. judgment upon us,

  545. but to bear

  546. judgment for us

  547. so that we

  548. don't have to.

  549. If you know

  550. anything about

  551. the prophet Isaiah

  552. and you read

  553. the whole of his work,

  554. you eventually,

  555. after you read

  556. Isaiah 9,

  557. you eventually

  558. come to Isaiah 53

  559. where the prophet

  560. says this,

  561. he,

  562. this child to be born,

  563. the son to be given,

  564. this king with four names,

  565. he,

  566. was pierced

  567. for our transgressions,

  568. he was crushed

  569. for our iniquities,

  570. the punishment

  571. that brought us peace

  572. was on him,

  573. and by his wounds

  574. we are healed.

  575. It's because we all,

  576. if we're honest

  577. with ourselves,

  578. have transgressed

  579. God's moral law

  580. of love

  581. that we deserve

  582. to be pierced.

  583. But,

  584. the good news

  585. of Christmas

  586. is that our

  587. Prince of Peace

  588. who lies here

  589. in such mean

  590. a state

  591. has been pierced

  592. for us instead.

  593. That because

  594. we are guilty

  595. of iniquities,

  596. that's an old word

  597. that means

  598. because we're guilty

  599. of injustices

  600. toward one another

  601. and toward God.

  602. We deserve

  603. to be crushed,

  604. but the good news

  605. of Christmas

  606. is that our

  607. Prince of Peace

  608. here in this lowly

  609. manger where ox

  610. and lamb are feeding,

  611. he's come to be

  612. crushed instead

  613. of us.

  614. You see this connection

  615. between Isaiah 9

  616. and Isaiah 53?

  617. Our Prince of Peace

  618. bore our punishment

  619. so that we can have

  620. the peace.

  621. He got the wounds

  622. so that we could get

  623. the healing.

  624. And we must not

  625. sever this link

  626. between Bethlehem

  627. and Golgotha,

  628. between his cradle

  629. and his cross

  630. and between

  631. the peace that we get

  632. and the punishment

  633. that he got.

  634. Nails,

  635. spears

  636. shall pierce him

  637. through the cross

  638. be born for me

  639. for you.

  640. That line

  641. does not ruin Christmas.

  642. That's what gives

  643. Christmas its power

  644. and its glory.

  645. Because this

  646. wonderful counselor,

  647. this mighty God,

  648. this everlasting

  649. father,

  650. this prince of peace

  651. who has the name

  652. above every other name

  653. has come in such lowliness,

  654. such humility,

  655. such downward mobility

  656. that's like nothing

  657. the world has ever seen

  658. from any other politician

  659. or any other king.

  660. Amen?

  661. Amen?

  662. The costliness of his birth,

  663. the sacrifice of his death,

  664. the peace and the reconciliation

  665. with God

  666. that he came to win for us

  667. is worthy of our praise.

  668. And that's why this carol says,

  669. hail, hail,

  670. the word made flesh,

  671. the babe,

  672. the son of Mary.

  673. To hail

  674. means to greet someone

  675. with enthusiastic

  676. approval and acclaim.

  677. And I hope you've come

  678. to do that tonight.

  679. This lowly king

  680. who began in a place

  681. of such mean estate

  682. where ox and lamb

  683. are feeding

  684. and this lamb who,

  685. this lowly king

  686. who deliberately went

  687. to this place

  688. of nails and spears

  689. and a cross for you,

  690. he's worthy

  691. of our enthusiasm.

  692. He's worthy

  693. of our approval

  694. and our acclaim

  695. and our worship tonight.

  696. So the child is a king,

  697. the king is lowly

  698. and just one last thought

  699. is that his kingdom

  700. is forever.

  701. His kingdom is forever.

  702. Look at stanza three

  703. of our carol

  704. that we're going to sing

  705. in a moment.

  706. It says,

  707. so bring him incense,

  708. gold and myrrh,

  709. compesant king to own him.

  710. The king of kings salvation brings,

  711. let loving hearts enthrone him.

  712. And this refers

  713. to the gospel of Matthew

  714. where these magi from the east,

  715. these wise kings,

  716. these Gentile philosophers

  717. came to this manger

  718. and to this cradle

  719. and it says

  720. in the gospel of Matthew

  721. that we read a moment ago

  722. in chapter two,

  723. verse 11,

  724. it says,

  725. when they saw the child,

  726. Jesus,

  727. they bowed down

  728. and they worshiped him.

  729. Now what's happening

  730. in that moment?

  731. These kings from the east,

  732. they've spent their whole lives

  733. studying world history

  734. and they know

  735. that kingdoms rise

  736. and then kingdoms fall.

  737. They've seen the pattern

  738. that every other king

  739. that's ever ruled,

  740. their rule and their reign

  741. is necessarily episodic

  742. and necessarily insecure.

  743. They've learned

  744. that empires

  745. are always emerging

  746. and then disappearing.

  747. They flow

  748. and then they ebb

  749. and they know

  750. that all the peoples

  751. of the world,

  752. all the nations

  753. of the world

  754. are longing

  755. and they're waiting

  756. for a king

  757. who will come

  758. to do something

  759. about this world.

  760. A king that will come

  761. to do something

  762. about this place

  763. of deep confusion

  764. and disorder

  765. and war

  766. and strife

  767. and strain

  768. and cruelty

  769. and pain

  770. and suffering.

  771. And when they finally

  772. get to the cradle

  773. of Christ,

  774. it says that they bowed down

  775. and they worshipped him.

  776. Why did they do that?

  777. Because they've met

  778. the child to be born.

  779. They've met the son

  780. to be given.

  781. They've met the king

  782. with four names.

  783. They've come

  784. and they've encountered

  785. this one

  786. of whom it's foretold

  787. in Isaiah chapter 9

    Isaiah 9:7

  788. verse 7.

  789. It says,

  790. of the increase

  791. of his government

  792. and peace

  793. there will be no end.

  794. He will reign

  795. on David's throne

  796. and over his kingdom

  797. establishing and upholding it

  798. with justice and righteousness

  799. from that time on

  800. and forever.

  801. The zeal of the Lord Almighty

  802. will accomplish this.

  803. What a contrast

  804. to every other kingdom

  805. and every other rule

  806. and reign.

  807. Can any of us

  808. even dare

  809. to imagine tonight

  810. what it would mean

  811. to live

  812. in a society

  813. of justice

  814. and righteousness?

  815. What must it be like

  816. to dwell

  817. in a kingdom

  818. that's run

  819. by just procedures

  820. which reflect

  821. righteous principles?

  822. Can you imagine that?

  823. It says,

  824. of the increase

  825. of his government

  826. and peace

  827. there will be

  828. no end.

  829. This is not

  830. a temporary kingdom.

  831. It's not going

  832. to triumph

  833. for a little while

  834. and then fall

  835. and then be overthrown

  836. like every other kingdom.

  837. No, this kingdom

  838. that's being established

  839. is firmly established

  840. and it's going

  841. to go on increasing

  842. until it occupies

  843. all the space

  844. in the universe

  845. until this king

  846. comes to rule

  847. over all

  848. and to banish

  849. all that's evil

  850. all sin

  851. and all death

  852. until he comes

  853. to reorder

  854. our entire cosmos

  855. and what will

  856. be the result

  857. of his rule?

  858. Stability.

  859. Security.

  860. Of the increase

  861. of peace

  862. there will be

  863. no end.

  864. There will be

  865. an endless sharing

  866. among us

  867. of shalom

  868. and wholeness

  869. and well-being

  870. and fulfillment

  871. and that,

  872. my friends,

  873. is going to happen

  874. on a coming

  875. future day.

  876. His kingdom

  877. is never going

  878. to come

  879. to an end

  880. and unless

  881. you and I

  882. become a citizen

  883. of his eternal kingdom

  884. we don't have

  885. much of a future.

  886. In fact,

  887. we don't have

  888. a future at all

  889. and so the question

  890. tonight is

  891. how do I

  892. get into

  893. and how do I

  894. live in his kingdom?

  895. And the answer

  896. is this line

  897. we're about to sing

  898. where it says

  899. the king of kings

  900. salvation brings

  901. let loving hearts

  902. enthrone him.

  903. And I want to invite

  904. you to just do that

  905. this Christmas

  906. whether that's tonight

  907. or over the next

  908. 12 days of Christmas

  909. to take your place

  910. at this manger throne

  911. to come to the cradle

  912. of this king

  913. and to bring him

  914. gifts that are

  915. worthy of a monarch

  916. to bring this sovereign

  917. the kind of things

  918. that he deserves

  919. not least

  920. the gift of your heart

  921. and the gift

  922. of your allegiance

  923. and all of your affections

  924. because there's no

  925. greater Christmas present

  926. than receiving this king

  927. with four names

  928. and there's no

  929. greater present

  930. that you could give him

  931. than to give him

  932. your very self.

  933. And so friends

  934. I want to say to us

  935. let us enthrone him

  936. with loving hearts tonight

  937. and let's praise him

  938. from a glad

  939. and a full heart

  940. and let's celebrate

  941. his birth

  942. with everything

  943. that we've got

  944. and let's go out

  945. from here

  946. and live as people

  947. who follow

  948. in the lowly way

  949. of our king

  950. and go out

  951. to spread

  952. the peace

  953. of our prince of peace

  954. and his eternal kingdom

  955. to everyone

  956. we encounter.

  957. And let's sing this carol

  958. together

  959. from a place

  960. of deep conviction

  961. and faith.

  962. If you believe it

  963. I invite you to stand with me

  964. and we're going to offer

  965. this carol

  966. in the name of the Father,

  967. Son, and Holy Spirit.

  968. Amen.

  969. Amen.
