  1. So welcome again on this Ascension Sunday, and happy Mother's Day.

  2. My name is Jeff, and I'm one of the pastors here, and hopefully this will work.

  3. Is that good to go?

  4. I guess not.

  5. I'll just use this.

  6. That's great.

  7. So my sophomore year of college, one Tuesday afternoon, my roommate Matt and I, we skipped

  8. class and we drove to Richmond, Virginia.

  9. And that night, at a music venue in Richmond, one of my favorite bands was playing, the

  10. Goo Goo Dolls.

  11. I don't know if you've heard of this band, the Goo Goo Dolls.

  12. It might depend on which generation you're from.

  13. They were a popular band in the 90s and the 2000s.

  14. You may have heard some of their songs, Iris, Slide, Black Balloon.

  15. Those may or may not be familiar to you.

  16. But the reason why I was so excited is we weren't just going to attend a concert.

  17. My roommate Matt, his girlfriend at the time, actually happened to be the drummer of the

  18. band, Goo Goo Dolls.

  19. And he had gotten us all backstage passes.

  20. And I still remember getting there and arriving and going backstage, being escorted by security

  21. and getting to meet all of the band members.

  22. And I remember thinking, this is so surreal.

  23. I can't believe this is happening.

  24. I am getting to hang out backstage with one of my favorite bands.

  25. I remember watching Uncle John, the drummer, drink almost an entire pot of coffee before

  26. he went out on stage.

  27. I remember seeing the set list of all the songs posted on a wall and all of the guitars lined

  28. up for the whole concert.

  29. And John Resnick, the lead singer, I remember that he clearly had way too much Botox in his

  30. face.

  31. And right before he went on stage, he walked past me and he said something really sarcastic,

  32. not to me, but just as he walked past me, because he had to duct tape his mic pack to his belt

  33. because he couldn't quite get it on.

  34. And I still remember what that moment felt like.

  35. I remember all of these memories and these feelings of being backstage.

  36. It was this amazing experience because just for a moment, I felt like I was part of the inner circle of one of my favorite bands.

  37. And the truth is that all of us have this longing.

  38. We all have this longing to be on the inside, to be part of an inner circle.

  39. Maybe it's at work.

  40. Maybe there's a certain role.

  41. Maybe there's a certain team.

  42. Maybe there's another job that we've just always wanted to be part of.

  43. Maybe it's a group of friends at school, a social circle.

  44. Maybe it's a school that we're trying to get into.

  45. In his essay, The Inner Ring, C.S. Lewis describes this dynamic.

  46. In his essay, he says that in every person's life, we all have this desire to be on the inside of things.

  47. And we feel a certain pleasure when we get invited in.

  48. And we feel a certain anguish when we're excluded.

  49. This is also Aaron Burr's character in Hamilton.

  50. There's that song, right, where Aaron Burr sings what?

  51. He sings, I want to be in the room where it happens.

  52. I want to be in the room where it happens.

  53. In many ways, this is Washington, D.C., where there are large buildings where highly exclusive conversations happen,

  54. where only a select group of people get to make important decisions.

  55. And there's armed guards outside these buildings to remind you that you are not one of them.

  56. I think one of the more common features in our culture that creates this insider-outsider dynamic is perhaps the paywall.

  57. The paywalls that tell you that the exclusive content that you really want can be yours.

  58. If you click the subscribe button below and enter in your credit card information.

  59. There's so many dynamics in our culture that create this insider-outsider dynamic.

  60. And it speaks to this desire that we all have to be on the inside.

  61. To be part of an inner circle.

  62. And this core desire is actually what our passage in John 17 speaks to.

  63. It's one of the most unique passages in the whole Bible.

  64. Because it's a prayer of Jesus.

  65. And in fact, it is actually the longest recorded prayer of Jesus that we have.

  66. There's none other like it.

  67. And in this prayer, what we're given is we are given exclusive backstage access

  68. to the relationship that Jesus has with his Father.

  69. And by studying this passage, we not only get to listen in on the inner life of the Trinity,

  70. but we are actually invited to be part of it.

  71. To join in on the very life of God.

  72. So first of all, we're going to look at a few things.

  73. We're going to look at how Jesus prays in this prayer.

  74. We're going to look at what he prays and why it matters.

  75. How Jesus prays, what he prays, and why it matters.

  76. First of all, let's look at how Jesus prays.

  77. This passage in John 17 is part of what's called the upper room discourse.

  78. If you're following along in the Gospel of John,

  79. you'll notice that chapters 13 through 17 are all one scene.

  80. They're all part of Jesus in the upper room during the Passover meal,

  81. the night before he's arrested and betrayed.

  82. And in the upper room, following the Passover meal,

  83. Jesus spends an extended time teaching his disciples in chapters 13 through 16.

  84. And this prayer in chapter 17 comes at the end of all that.

  85. And this is right before he heads to the Garden of Gethsemane,

  86. where he is ultimately betrayed and arrested.

  87. And this prayer of Jesus is often called his high priestly prayer.

  88. His high priestly prayer.

  89. And if we're going to understand what that means,

  90. we need to do a little bit of Old Testament homework.

  91. The work of priests in the Old Testament was complex and multifaceted work.

  92. And it was the exclusive job of the high priest to offer a sacrifice for sin

  93. on behalf of all the people on the Day of Atonement.

  94. And this is a job that involved multiple detailed steps.

  95. The first thing the high priest would do would be to prepare his own body by bathing and cleansing himself.

  96. And then he would put on the priestly garments.

  97. This is what is referred to in our Old Testament reading, Exodus 28, that was read earlier.

  98. The priest would put on an undergarment, a robe, a turban on his head, a sash tied around the waist.

  99. But what Exodus chapter 28 goes into detail the most on is the breastplate.

    Exodus 28 chapter mention

  100. The breastplate.

  101. On the priest's breastplate were 12 precious jewels.

  102. And on each jewel were engraved the names of the 12 tribes of Israel.

  103. And so this is what, look at what Exodus 28 verse 29 says.

    Exodus 28:29

  104. So Aaron the high priest shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart

  105. when he goes into the holy place to bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord.

  106. So Aaron would carry the names of Israel engraved on his heart before the presence of God

  107. as he went to make the sacrifice of atonement.

  108. After putting on his priestly garments, he would then make two sacrifices.

  109. Two animals, one for himself and one for all of the people.

  110. And these sacrifices would be made outside the sanctuary.

  111. Outside the inner presence of God, the most holy place.

  112. And then the priest would bring the blood of the sacrifices.

  113. He would bring them inside, into the inner sanctuary,

  114. and sprinkle the altar with the blood of the sacrifice.

  115. Now, all of this is actually really important, both to understand our passage in John chapter 17

    John 17 chapter mention

  116. and to understand what Ascension Sunday is all about.

  117. For understanding the significance of the ascension.

  118. See, the work of a high priest wasn't finished once the sacrifice was made.

  119. And that's because the sacrifice occurred outside the inner sanctuary.

  120. In order for the sacrifice to be effective on behalf of the people, it had to be brought in.

  121. It had to be brought into the holy of holies, the inner sanctuary.

  122. And so this is why when we think about Jesus being our great high priest,

  123. the cross actually isn't complete on its own.

  124. The cross isn't complete without the ascension.

  125. In his death, Jesus makes a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.

  126. Only unlike Aaron, he doesn't make a sacrifice for himself because he was sinless.

  127. But it's in the ascension that he presents the finished work of his sacrifice

  128. into the inner presence of God, in the heavenly throne room,

  129. so that it becomes effective on our behalf.

  130. This is what much of the book of Hebrews talks about.

  131. Listen to Hebrews chapter 9, verse 24.

    Hebrews 9:24

  132. For Christ has entered not into holy places made with hands,

  133. which are copies of the true things,

  134. but into heaven itself,

  135. now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.

  136. So in his death on the cross, Jesus pays the debt for our sin,

  137. but it's in the ascension,

  138. the ascension provides confirmation that that check has cleared.

  139. And this helps us understand part of what Jesus is doing in John chapter 17

    John 17 chapter mention

  140. before he goes to the cross.

  141. In this prayer,

  142. Jesus is putting on his priestly garments.

  143. He's preparing for his atoning work.

  144. Just as Aaron bore the names of Israel on the jewels upon his heart,

  145. so Jesus Christ is putting on a much greater brush plate.

  146. He's bearing the names of all those for whom he would suffer and die.

  147. He's going to the cross with your name and my name engraved upon his heart,

  148. so much so that it calls him to pray for us,

  149. to intercede for us before the Father.

  150. He's saying to his Father,

  151. this is who I love the most.

  152. They are precious to me.

  153. They are jewels upon my heart,

  154. and I am praying for them.

  155. And so this is why Jesus' prayer here in John 17

  156. is called his high priestly prayer.

  157. And as we'll see,

  158. it's both a prayer that he prays for himself and for us.

  159. It's a prayer that he prays both for himself and for us.

  160. And that's the next thing that we're going to look at

  161. is what Jesus prays in this prayer.

  162. There are kind of three main things that Jesus prays for in John 17.

  163. He prays for his glory,

  164. for our holiness,

  165. and for the church's unity.

  166. He prays for our glory,

  167. his glory,

  168. our holiness,

  169. and the church's unity.

  170. So first of all,

  171. Jesus prays for his glory.

  172. And we see this in verses one and two.

  173. Jesus prays,

  174. Father, the hour has come.

  175. Glorify your Son,

  176. that the Son may glorify you,

  177. since you have given him authority over all flesh,

  178. to give eternal life to all whom you've given him.

  179. I glorified you on earth,

  180. having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.

  181. Now,

  182. at first,

  183. it probably seems a bit egocentric

  184. for someone to pray for their own glory.

  185. And that's true

  186. for any person who isn't God.

  187. But for Jesus to pray for his own glory

  188. is actually a good thing.

  189. And I want to show you why.

  190. Because in this prayer,

  191. we see the mutually glorifying relationship

  192. of the Trinity.

  193. We see that the Son

  194. glorifies the Father

  195. by accomplishing the work

  196. that the Father gave him to do

  197. in his life,

  198. his ministry,

  199. his death.

  200. And the Father glorifies the Son

  201. by rising him from the dead

  202. and giving him authority

  203. over all things

  204. in his ascension.

  205. And even though the Holy Spirit

  206. isn't mentioned here,

  207. it's implied.

  208. Because how did the Father

  209. and the Son glorify one another?

  210. Through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  211. And so here in Jesus' prayer

  212. to his Father,

  213. we get this window,

  214. we get this backstage access

  215. into God's own Trinitarian life.

  216. The Trinity is this divine dance

  217. of mutually glorifying love.

  218. And the incredible thing

  219. is that we are invited to join in.

  220. We see this later in verse 24

  221. where Jesus prays this,

  222. Father, I desire that they also,

  223. whom you have given me,

  224. may be with me where I am,

  225. to see my glory that you have given me,

  226. because you love me

  227. before the foundation of the world,

  228. that the love with which you have loved me

  229. may be in them.

  230. One of the deepest desires of Jesus

  231. that he pleads for before the Father

  232. as our great high priest

  233. is that you and I

  234. would get to join in

  235. on the eternal glory

  236. and love and life

  237. that has existed

  238. before all eternity

  239. between the Father,

  240. the Son,

  241. and the Holy Spirit.

  242. In the Christian tradition,

  243. this has often been called to,

  244. been referred to as

  245. the beatific vision,

  246. the promise that one day

  247. we will see God

  248. and behold him in all his glory

  249. and experience loving,

  250. joyful communion with him forever.

  251. This same love,

  252. the same glory

  253. that has existed

  254. between the Trinity

  255. before all eternity.

  256. And this is why

  257. Jesus' prayer for his own glory

  258. is good news for us

  259. because it gives us

  260. insider access.

  261. It gives us backstage passes

  262. into the glory and love

  263. of the Trinity.

  264. Because our great high priest

  265. who has ascended into heaven

  266. bears our names

  267. engraved on his heart

  268. and he pleads before the Father

  269. that we would share

  270. in his divine glory

  271. and the prayers of Jesus

  272. are always effective.

  273. You might say,

  274. well Jeff,

  275. I know that you have to talk

  276. about this stuff

  277. because you're a pastor.

  278. You know,

  279. things like glory

  280. and love

  281. and the ascension.

  282. But if I'm being honest,

  283. this sounds like a lot

  284. of just super spiritual talk.

  285. What in the world

  286. does this have to do

  287. with my real life?

  288. And the answer

  289. that I would give you

  290. is everything.

  291. Everything.

  292. Because you and I

  293. were made

  294. for nothing less

  295. than infinite glory.

  296. We are glory hungry creatures.

  297. We long for recognition.

  298. We long for applause.

  299. We long for approval.

  300. We long for status.

  301. And we spend our lives

  302. seeking it

  303. in a thousand different places.

  304. in power,

  305. in fame,

  306. success,

  307. money,

  308. in jobs,

  309. in relationships,

  310. in promotions,

  311. in titles,

  312. in social media followers.

  313. But none of those

  314. can ever satisfy

  315. our deep longing

  316. for glory.

  317. Why?

  318. C.S. Lewis offers

  319. this answer

  320. in his sermon

  321. called

  322. The Weight of Glory.

  323. And he says this,

  324. If we consider

  325. the unblushing promises

  326. of reward

  327. and the staggering

  328. nature of the rewards

  329. promised to us

  330. in the Gospels,

  331. it would seem

  332. that our Lord

  333. finds our desires

  334. not too strong

  335. but too weak.

  336. We are half-hearted creatures

  337. fooling about

  338. with drink

  339. and sex

  340. and ambition

  341. when infinite joy

  342. is offered us.

  343. like an ignorant child

  344. who wants to go on

  345. making mud pies

  346. in a slum

  347. because he cannot

  348. imagine what is meant

  349. by the offer

  350. of a holiday

  351. at the sea.

  352. We are far

  353. too easily pleased.

  354. And this is

  355. the human condition

  356. that we are

  357. far too easily

  358. pleased.

  359. The small glories

  360. of money

  361. and fame

  362. and success

  363. and power

  364. are mud pies

  365. compared to the

  366. infinite glory

  367. that we have been

  368. invited into.

  369. Jesus not only

  370. prays that we will

  371. see the eternal

  372. beauty of God

  373. but that we will

  374. experience it

  375. and be transformed

  376. by it.

  377. And far from being

  378. an egocentric prayer

  379. this is the prayer

  380. that we most need

  381. because the glory

  382. of Jesus

  383. and our deepest joy

  384. are inextricably linked.

  385. And what follows

  386. in the rest

  387. of Jesus' prayer

  388. in John 17

  389. flows from

  390. this central reality.

  391. Jesus continues

  392. to pray

  393. for our holiness

  394. and for the church's unity

  395. but all of these

  396. things fit together

  397. because they're all

  398. about us participating

  399. in the divine glory

  400. of the Trinity.

  401. In verses 15

  402. through 19

  403. Jesus goes on

  404. to pray

  405. for our

  406. sanctification

  407. our holiness

  408. us growing

  409. to become

  410. more like him.

  411. And he prays this

  412. so that we might

  413. share in his

  414. nature

  415. that we might

  416. share in his

  417. glory.

  418. But this isn't

  419. a holiness

  420. that causes

  421. us to escape

  422. from the messiness

  423. and brokenness

  424. and fallenness

  425. of the world.

  426. It's actually

  427. a holiness

  428. that sends us

  429. out into the world

  430. on mission

  431. just like Christ.

  432. And he prays

  433. to the Father

  434. he says

  435. Father as you

  436. sent me

  437. into the world

  438. so I have

  439. sent them

  440. into the world.

  441. As we share

  442. in the glory

  443. of the Trinity

  444. we also share

  445. in the mission

  446. of the Trinity.

  447. As the Father

  448. sent the Son

  449. and the power

  450. of the Spirit

  451. he sends us

  452. also into the world.

  453. This same logic

  454. also applies

  455. to the church's unity

  456. which Jesus prays

  457. for in verses

  458. 20 to 23.

  459. He says

  460. I do not ask

  461. for these only

  462. but also for those

  463. who will believe

  464. in me

  465. through their word

  466. that they may

  467. all be one

  468. just as you

  469. Father are in me

  470. and I in you

  471. that they also

  472. may be in us

  473. so that the world

  474. may believe

  475. that you have sent me.

  476. Why should we

  477. pursue unity

  478. in the church?

  479. So we can have

  480. peaceful community

  481. and avoid conflict

  482. so that we can

  483. pursue common goals?

  484. Those are all

  485. good things

  486. but they are not

  487. the main reason.

  488. The reason

  489. that Jesus

  490. gives us

  491. is because

  492. the glory

  493. that the Father

  494. has given him

  495. he has given

  496. to the church.

  497. God himself

  498. is a communion

  499. of unity

  500. amid diversity.

  501. He's one God

  502. in three persons.

  503. This eternal

  504. communion

  505. of divine love.

  506. And because

  507. the church

  508. has been invited

  509. into this communion

  510. this is why

  511. the unity

  512. of the church

  513. is mission

  514. critical.

  515. Because when

  516. the church

  517. is unified

  518. amidst its own

  519. diversity

  520. it sends a

  521. powerful witness

  522. to the world

  523. that there is

  524. a Trinitarian

  525. God of love

  526. who joins

  527. a diverse people

  528. into one body

  529. one family

  530. one communion

  531. of love.

  532. And when there

  533. is loving unity

  534. in the church

  535. it reflects

  536. the loving unity

  537. of the Trinity.

  538. community.

  539. And when there's

  540. not

  541. it robs

  542. the power

  543. of our

  544. witness.

  545. And that's

  546. true both

  547. in the

  548. universal

  549. global church

  550. and it's

  551. true in

  552. the local

  553. church.

  554. So we've

  555. covered a lot

  556. of ground

  557. here in

  558. John 17

  559. so let's

  560. bring it

  561. home and

  562. tie it

  563. all together.

  564. All of us

  565. have this

  566. longing to

  567. be inside.

  568. To be

  569. where things

  570. happen.

  571. To have

  572. insider

  573. access.

  574. And if

  575. you try

  576. to satisfy

  577. that longing

  578. by chasing

  579. after the

  580. inner circles

  581. of jobs

  582. and schools

  583. and social

  584. groups

  585. you'll never

  586. actually be

  587. satisfied.

  588. Because there

  589. will always

  590. be some

  591. inner circle

  592. that you

  593. will be

  594. excluded

  595. from.

  596. But don't

  597. you see

  598. that the

  599. real inner

  600. circle that

  601. your soul

  602. was made

  603. for is

  604. the eternal

  605. dance of

  606. God.

  607. The glory

  608. and love

  609. and joy

  610. of the

  611. Father

  612. and the

  613. Son

  614. and the

  615. Holy Spirit

  616. that has

  617. existed

  618. before the

  619. world began.

  620. And don't

  621. you see

  622. that everything

  623. that Christ

  624. did was

  625. to give

  626. you access

  627. into that

  628. communion.

  629. And if

  630. you know

  631. that,

  632. if you know

  633. that you've

  634. been invited

  635. into that,

  636. you'll be

  637. able to

  638. experience a

  639. certain kind

  640. of rest,

  641. a certain

  642. kind of

  643. freedom,

  644. a certain

  645. kind of

  646. security in

  647. your heart.

  648. and that

  649. will be

  650. true regardless

  651. of whether

  652. or not you

  653. get invited

  654. to that

  655. job interview,

  656. whether or

  657. not you

  658. get invited

  659. to be part

  660. of that

  661. friend group

  662. or that

  663. school.

  664. You can

  665. relax.

  666. It won't

  667. threaten your

  668. core identity.

  669. It won't

  670. threaten your

  671. self-worth

  672. because you

  673. know that

  674. you've been

  675. given access

  676. to the

  677. greatest inner

  678. circle of

  679. all.

  680. How many

  681. people in

  682. a city like

  683. Washington,

  684. D.C.

  685. have that

  686. kind of

  687. freedom,

  688. have that

  689. kind of

  690. rest,

  691. have that

  692. kind of

  693. security,

  694. that they

  695. know their

  696. life isn't

  697. just this

  698. rat race of

  699. trying to get

  700. in on the

  701. inner circle.

  702. Maybe others

  703. of you today

  704. need to hear

  705. about the

  706. assurance of

  707. God's love

  708. for you,

  709. that you

  710. really belong

  711. to him,

  712. that he's

  713. with you.

  714. Maybe you've

  715. been doubting

  716. whether God

  717. actually loves

  718. you like he

  719. says he

  720. does.

  721. But don't

  722. you see that

  723. the great

  724. lengths and

  725. the extravagant

  726. detail that

  727. Jesus Christ

  728. went through

  729. for you to

  730. bring you

  731. into the

  732. very life

  733. of God.

  734. As your

  735. great high

  736. priest,

  737. he went

  738. to the

  739. cross

  740. with your

  741. name

  742. engraved

  743. on his

  744. heart.

  745. And don't

  746. you see what

  747. the ascension

  748. means?

  749. It means that

  750. Jesus didn't

  751. just go to

  752. the cross

  753. with your

  754. name engraved

  755. on his

  756. heart.

  757. He didn't

  758. just bear

  759. your name

  760. on the

  761. cross,

  762. but he

  763. took it

  764. with him

  765. into the

  766. heavenly throne

  767. room before

  768. God the

  769. Father.

  770. And he

  771. still pleads

  772. for you and

  773. intercedes for

  774. you on your

  775. behalf.

  776. Think about

  777. that.

  778. And let

  779. that bring

  780. the deep

  781. assurance that

  782. God is with

  783. you, that he

  784. loves you, that

  785. he's for you.

  786. You're so

  787. precious to

  788. him.

  789. You're a

  790. jewel upon his

  791. heart.

  792. You're on the

  793. forefront of

  794. his mind.

  795. And finally,

  796. maybe there's

  797. some of you

  798. who would

  799. say, you

  800. know, my

  801. coming in

  802. this morning,

  803. my relationship

  804. with God

  805. just feels

  806. flat.

  807. My prayer

  808. life is

  809. stale.

  810. I just

  811. kind of feel

  812. like I'm

  813. in a

  814. spiritual

  815. plateau.

  816. I'm in

  817. a rut.

  818. What

  819. could

  820. motivate us

  821. more to

  822. experience

  823. fellowship

  824. with God?

  825. What

  826. could

  827. motivate us

  828. more to

  829. pray?

  830. knowing that

  831. Jesus Christ

  832. as our

  833. great high

  834. priest is

  835. already praying

  836. for us.

  837. He's praying

  838. for you right

  839. now, interceding

  840. for you before

  841. the Father.

  842. He's praying

  843. for you to

  844. experience the

  845. glory and the

  846. love that he

  847. experiences with

  848. the Father and

  849. the Spirit.

  850. And when we

  851. pray, we are

  852. joining our

  853. prayers to

  854. his.

  855. We are

  856. joining this

  857. Trinitarian

  858. dance, this

  859. Trinitarian

  860. conversation that

  861. has already

  862. been taking

  863. place before

  864. the foundation

  865. of the

  866. world.

  867. And that

  868. transforms the

  869. way we see

  870. prayer.

  871. Prayer isn't

  872. just a

  873. spiritual

  874. exercise, but

  875. it's about

  876. having access

  877. to the

  878. greatest inner

  879. circle of

  880. all, joining

  881. Jesus in

  882. conversation and

  883. fellowship and

  884. love with the

  885. Trinity.

  886. Prayer doesn't

  887. always feel

  888. glorious.

  889. In fact, most

  890. times we don't

  891. feel anything.

  892. It feels fairly

  893. ordinary and

  894. mundane.

  895. But the

  896. more that we

  897. learn to

  898. pray, the

  899. more that we

  900. get a real

  901. taste, a real

  902. experience of

  903. what our future

  904. glory will be

  905. like that Jesus

  906. promises here in

  907. John 17.

  908. And I've

  909. already quoted

  910. C.S.

  911. Lewis twice, so I

  912. figure I will end

  913. by quoting him a

  914. third time.

  915. At the end of

  916. his sermon, The

  917. Weight of Glory,

  918. C.S.

  919. Lewis says this,

  920. for if we take

  921. the image of

  922. Scripture

  923. seriously, if we

  924. believe that God

  925. will one day give

  926. us the morning

  927. star and cause

  928. us to put on the

  929. splendor of the

  930. sun, then we

  931. may surmise that

  932. both the ancient

  933. myths and modern

  934. poetry are true.

  935. At present, we

  936. are on the

  937. outside of the

  938. world, the wrong

  939. side of the

  940. door.

  941. We discern the

  942. freshness and

  943. purity of the

  944. morning, but they

  945. do not make us

  946. fresh and pure.

  947. We cannot mingle

  948. with the splendors

  949. that we see.

  950. But all the

  951. leaves of the New

  952. Testament are

  953. rustling with the

  954. rumor that it

  955. will not always be

  956. so.

  957. Someday, God

  958. willing, we

  959. shall get in.

  960. Let's pray.

  961. Our God and

  962. Father, we thank

  963. you that you have

  964. invited us into

  965. your inner circle,

  966. Father, Son, and

  967. Holy Spirit, through

  968. the work of Christ

  969. and the power of

  970. the Holy Spirit.

  971. I pray that we

  972. would, our hearts

  973. would be fed with

  974. the assurance that

  975. comes from that.

  976. I pray for those who

  977. long to experience

  978. you, who long to

  979. experience your

  980. fellowship, that you

  981. would pour your

  982. Holy Spirit.

  983. Jesus, thank you

  984. that you are our

  985. risen, ascended

  986. King.

  987. You're our risen,

  988. ascended High

  989. Priest.

  990. And you bear our

  991. names on your

  992. heart.

  993. I pray this in the

  994. Father, the Son, and

  995. the Holy Spirit.

  996. Amen.

  997. Amen.
