  1. Good morning again,

  2. North Palm.

  3. Wow.

  4. I want to uh I want to begin with the

  5. first time the gospel was proclaimed

  6. this morning. We're getting ready to

  7. celebrate Christmas and uh we're going

  8. to look at this week, next week, and

  9. actually the 21st uh at I believe three

  10. really important areas. This week I want

  11. to talk about the first gospel and the

  12. final triumph

  13. because they actually happened at the

  14. same time. The first time the gospel was

  15. proclaimed, the enemy was defeated.

  16. So take a moment, lift your hands with

  17. me. Come on, everybody. Are you ready?

  18. >> All right, pray this prayer with me.

  19. Holy Spirit,

  20. >> open my ears

  21. >> that I can hear

  22. >> what you have to say. Open my heart.

  23. Make it receptive. I give you permission

  24. to move deep in my life, to form my

  25. heart, to form my character. Jesus, have

  26. your way in me today.

  27. >> Amen.

  28. >> Praise the Lord. Come on, give the Lord

  29. a hand clap of praise.

  30. All right. If you would like the notes,

  31. I would encourage you text the word

  32. notes to 843-75-56209

  33. and you can receive a copy of them or

  34. not us

  35. in Spanish. You can receive them in

  36. Spanish. And then at the end of the

  37. notes, there is a 7-day prayer plan that

  38. I would highly encourage you to get this

  39. week and to use in your devotions. In

  40. Genesis chapter number three, verse 15.

  41. Genesis 3:15. Turn with me in your Bible

    Genesis 3:15

  42. or open your tablet or your phone.

  43. Genesis 3:15.

    Genesis 3:15

  44. And I will put enmity, notice that word,

  45. enmity. I will put enmity between you

  46. and the woman, and between your seed and

  47. her seed. Notice that

  48. enmity between your seed, the serpent's

  49. seed, and enmity between the seed of the

  50. woman.

  51. Interesting.

  52. He shall bruise your head

  53. and you shall bruise his heel.

  54. Amen. Now, this is the very first place

  55. in scripture where where light breaks

  56. through the darkness of the fall of

  57. Adam. the first place before God

  58. pronounces judgment on Adam and Eve, he

  59. pronounces judgment on the serpent.

  60. And when he pronounces judgment on the

  61. serpent, he at the same time announces

  62. his plan of redemption.

  63. Theologians have called this the proto

  64. evangelum

  65. or the first gospel.

  66. And so this one verse, Genesis 3:15,

    Genesis 3:15

  67. contains the entire redemption story,

  68. but it's in seed form. It declares that

  69. there is a messiah that is going to come

  70. to come and it announces a war that is

  71. taking place, but it also promises the

  72. victory. So let's look at this. The

  73. first thing I want you to notice is that

  74. this conflict is initiated by God. God

  75. initiates the conflict. He said, "I will

  76. put enmity."

  77. And so the conflict doesn't originate

  78. with man. The conflict doesn't originate

  79. with the devil, with Satan. No, it

  80. originates with God himself. God is not

  81. reacting to sin.

  82. He is sovereignly stepping in when man

  83. sins.

  84. He's stepping in. He's intervening. And

  85. so that word enmity, that's one that you

  86. need to really get into your spirit. It

  87. it means in Hebrew hostility, deep

  88. hatred. It means a continual conflict.

  89. But really to to understand it, it's

  90. like um you despise the essence

  91. of the other person. I will put enmity.

  92. There will be such a deeprooted hatred,

  93. such a deeprooted

  94. uh despising in you that the seed of the

  95. woman is going to have enmity against

  96. the serpent and the serpent is going to

  97. have enmity. Despise the essence of the

  98. seed of the woman.

  99. enmity

  100. really a difficult word. So, so God

  101. draws the battle lines in the garden and

  102. actually what God is doing he is saying

  103. Satan you will not rule humanity I am

  104. intervening and I will redeem.

  105. I will redeem. So you understand that

  106. the battle is not spiritual or physical.

  107. The battle is spiritual. Ephesians 6

  108. verse number 12 where Paul said, "For we

  109. do not wrestle against flesh and blood,

  110. but against principalities, against

  111. powers, against the rulers of the

  112. darkness of this age, against spiritual

  113. host of wickedness in the heavenly

  114. places." So you understand that the

  115. adversary, your adversary, the devil is

  116. seeking to destroy. He is out for total

  117. destruction. So Peter said in 1 Peter

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

  118. chapter 5 verse number 8, be sober, be

  119. vigilant because your adversary the

  120. devil. Now you need to understand that

  121. the devil is not is your adversary. He

  122. is not your entertainer.

  123. The there is pleasure in sin but it is

  124. for a season and in the end that

  125. pleasure turns to sorrow because the

  126. wages of sin is death.

  127. So your adversary, the devil, walks

  128. about like a roaring lion, seeking whom

  129. he may devour.

  130. Seeking whom he may devour. Now this is

  131. a word

  132. that is not just talking about harm.

  133. That word devour, that word means to

  134. consume completely.

  135. It's like the prey is swallowed whole.

  136. And Peter uses this terminology

  137. intentionally to warn us as believers

  138. that the enemy is not simply trying to

  139. injure us. He's not simply trying to

  140. distract us. He's not trying to irritate

  141. us. He is seeking to consume us. He

  142. wants to consume our faith. He wants to

  143. consume our testimony. He wants to

  144. consume our joy. He wants to consume our

  145. holiness. He wants to consume our

  146. spiritual strength. He wants to consume

  147. our identity. He wants to consume us

  148. entirely.

  149. So let's go a little deeper. To say that

  150. the enemy seeks to devour means that he

  151. aims for total spiritual and physical

  152. and emotional and mental destruction.

  153. not just discomfort

  154. that he that and you need to understand

  155. that that as you as you go into this

  156. that compromise is what feeds him.

  157. It's those little small openings that

  158. create swallowing points where he will

  159. devour you. And so this warning is

  160. active. This warning is urgent. This is

  161. not just casual advice. Your protection

  162. is found in your vigilance. Your

  163. protection is found in living a sober

  164. lifestyle. Your protection is found in

  165. keeping your faith steadfast, secure,

  166. and rooted on the rock, Jesus Christ.

  167. >> That is your protection. And you need to

  168. understand that Satan wages all out war.

  169. All out war. He throws all the stops

  170. aside. Revelation 12 beginning with

  171. verse number 7. A war broke out in

  172. heaven. Michael and his angels fought

  173. with the dragon and the dragon and his

  174. angels fought but they did not prevail

  175. nor was a place found for them in heaven

  176. any longer. So the great dragon was cast

  177. out. Somebody say, "Praise the Lord."

  178. >> The great dragon was cast out. that

  179. serpent of old called the devil and

  180. Satan who deceives the whole world and

  181. he was cast to the earth and his angels

  182. were cast out with him. Don't you know

  183. that made him angry?

  184. The moment that Adam fell

  185. was not the moment that God lost.

  186. >> No, it was the moment that God

  187. intervened.

  188. God intervened in the downfall OF MAN.

  189. GOD INTERVENEED in the iniquity of man.

  190. GOD INTERVENED IN the destruction of

  191. man. You know during World War II,

  192. Winston Churchill, I admire Winston

  193. Churchill. So he was such an incredible

  194. leader. He once said regarding the Nazis

  195. and their threat, he said, "We are

  196. resolved to wage war by sea, land, and

  197. air with all of our might." He was

  198. saying, "We're not holding anything

  199. back. We're going to fight every

  200. possible way that there is to fight."

  201. You see, it was not Germany that

  202. declared war on the Allies. It was the

  203. allies who refused to surrender. That

  204. declaration changed history. Some of you

  205. have got to stop surrendering to the

  206. devil. You've got to stop giving up when

  207. the temptation comes. You've got to stop

  208. throwing in the towel when the heat

  209. turns up. You've got to remember that if

  210. you endure to the end, you're going to

  211. be saved. It may look not look like

  212. victory. It may not feel like victory

  213. all the time, but the victory has

  214. already been assured. You are more than

  215. a conqueror through him who loved you

  216. and gave himself for you. You are an

  217. overcomer through Christ Jesus.

  218. >> So in Genesis, God is the one who

  219. declares war on Satan.

  220. And so what does this really mean to you

  221. and I? Here's what it means. God never

  222. abandons his children to darkness.

  223. >> Never. Every conflict in your life has

  224. already been intercepted by God.

  225. >> It means that the enemy does not have

  226. the final say. God has the final say.

  227. >> And when the enemy attacks, he is

  228. trespassing on God's territory because

  229. you are a child of God. You were made in

  230. the image of God and you are SPECIAL TO

  231. your father.

  232. >> The second thing I want you to see is

  233. that God promises a redeemer through the

  234. seed of the woman.

  235. He said, "I'm going to put enmity

  236. between your seed

  237. and her seed."

  238. Now

  239. this is a this is a little bit shocking

  240. because in scripture

  241. the seed is always traced through man

  242. except here

  243. God says here that it's through her seed

  244. enmity between your seed and her seed.

  245. And so that word seed means offspring.

  246. It means pro post prosperity. It means

  247. descendants.

  248. And this is the first whisper of the

  249. virgin birth.

  250. A virgin

  251. Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 7:14

    Isaiah 7:14

  252. shall conceive. Therefore the Lord

  253. himself will give you a sign. Behold,

  254. the virgin shall conceive and bear a

  255. son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.

  256. And what is Emmanuel? Emmanuel is God

  257. with us. Matthew 1 verse 23, behold the

    Matthew 1:23

  258. virgin shall be with child and bear a

  259. son, and they shall call his name

  260. Emmanuel, which is translated God with

  261. us. That's the word that God gave to

  262. Joseph. That's the word that that the

  263. woman was going to bear a child. This

  264. virgin was going to conceive.

  265. And what is that seed? That seed is

  266. Christ. Galatians 3 verse number 16. Now

  267. to Abraham and his seed were promises

  268. made. He does not say to seeds as of

  269. many, but as of one and to your seed who

  270. is Christ. And so here God declares,

  271. "Redemption

  272. is coming through my son that is born of

  273. a woman and not of man.

  274. The seed of the woman, the virgin, will

  275. conceive and give birth to a son." So

  276. this prophecy starts a redemptive

  277. lineage. You know, family gets messed

  278. up. I I know not your family, but

  279. family gets messed up. And so the first

  280. family was no ex and I'm not talking

  281. about the White House. The first family

  282. created was messed up. Adam and Eve had

  283. a son had two sons, Cain and Abel. And

  284. Cain got jealous of Abel because Abel's

  285. sacrifice was acceptable to God and

  286. Cain's one. And God confronted Cain and

  287. said, you know, "Hey, what's going on?

  288. there's sin that's crouching at the

  289. door. And so Cain denied it, but then

  290. goes out into the field and kills his

  291. brother Abel.

  292. So the redemptive seed that came through

  293. Adam and Eve was Seth.

  294. And then from Seth to Abraham, God told

  295. Abraham, "I'm going to prosper you. In

  296. you all the families of the earth will

  297. be blessed." And then it goes through

  298. his son Judah,

  299. through his relationship with Tamar. And

  300. you got to read that story if you like

  301. stuff. That's whoa whoa. That's one of

  302. them. And then it goes from there

  303. through David.

  304. David

  305. and his

  306. and Uriah's wife. The scripture refers

  307. to Beth Sheeba every almost every

  308. instance, not by her name, but as the

  309. wife of Uriah.

  310. But yet Messiah comes through her.

  311. I'm telling you, this is good stuff,

  312. man. And then you go from David to

  313. Jesus, the Christ, who is referred to as

  314. the son of David, Messiah. And so from a

  315. single

  316. seed, all of this promise comes from a

  317. single seed,

  318. just a little seed. Now imagine a farmer

  319. and he's holding this seed in his hand

  320. and that seed doesn't look like a tree.

  321. It doesn't look like shade. It doesn't

  322. look like fruit. In fact, that seed

  323. looks completely totally insignificant.

  324. But inside that seed is an entire

  325. future.

  326. The promise of God made in Eden was

  327. small in appearance. But inside that

  328. seed of the woman, there was a cross

  329. and there was a resurrection

  330. and there was a kingdom and there was a

  331. church in Eklesia, a governing body. AND

  332. there in that seed was the final defeat

  333. of Satan. Because listen, a seed never

  334. looks like the harvest.

  335. So what does this mean to you and to you

  336. and I? It means that God plants when God

  337. plants, it may start small, but it's

  338. going to always grow into victory.

  339. It means that you don't measure God's

  340. promise by the size. You measure it by

  341. his word.

  342. It means that God has a plan for you

  343. before the enemy ever attacked you and

  344. stood against you. Somebody needs to

  345. praise God in this house today.

  346. Number three, I want you to see that God

  347. forever decides the outcome of the war.

  348. God decides the outcome. Genesis 3:15,

    Genesis 3:15

  349. God said, "He shall bruise your head

  350. and you shall bruise his heel." These

  351. are two blows that are described. One is

  352. a temporary blow that you recover from

  353. and one is a fatal blow, a final blow

  354. that there is no recovery from. So that

  355. word bruise,

  356. he's going to bruise your head and

  357. you're going to bruise his heel. That

  358. bruise means to crush. It means to

  359. overwhelm. It means to strike fatally.

  360. So the serpent strikes the heel,

  361. but you recover from that

  362. while Jesus Messiah crushes the head of

  363. the serpent.

  364. and you don't recover from that.

  365. >> So Jesus came to destroy the works of

  366. the devil.

  367. >> In first John chapter 3 verse number

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  368. eight, he who sins is of the devil. For

  369. the devil has sinned from the beginning.

  370. For this purpose the son of God was

  371. manifested that he might destroy the

  372. works of the devil. And you say, "How

  373. did he do that?" Well, in Hebrews 2,

    Hebrews 2:14

  374. verse 14, in so much then as the

  375. children have partaken of flesh and

  376. blood, he himself likewise shared in the

  377. same. Jesus God became man. He parttook

  378. in flesh and blood. And then it goes on

  379. to say that through faith he might

  380. destroy him who had the power of death.

  381. That is the devil,

  382. >> man. What is wrong? Didn't you hear

  383. that?

  384. >> He destroys him who has the power of

  385. death. I hate death. I don't get I don't

  386. understand. Maybe this is an anomaly in

  387. my neighborhood, but we got a couple

  388. neighbors that think they can put these

  389. 20 foot skeletons up at Halloween and

  390. then make them decorated for

  391. Thanksgiving and then leave them up

  392. through Christmas. But I'm here to tell

  393. you that in the name of Jesus, Jesus has

  394. already conquered death.

  395. >> There there's no skeletons in the

  396. kingdom of God. They're only saved,

  397. whole, redeemed, set free children of

  398. the most high. And look at what he said

  399. in verse 15. And to release those who

  400. through the fear of death were all their

  401. lifetime subject to bondage. Can

  402. somebody say, "Praise God, I've been set

  403. free.

  404. I've been set free. I've been set free.

  405. And so what what did he do? He disarmed

  406. the principalities and the powers.

  407. Colossians 2 verse number 15. Having

  408. disarmed principalities and powers, he

  409. made a a public spectacle of them,

  410. triumphing over them in it. What? How'd

  411. he do that? Through the cross. He

  412. disarmed the devil through the cross.

  413. And so, Revelation 20 verse number 10

  414. tells us that Satan has been defeated.

  415. The devil who deceived them was cast

  416. into the lake of fire and brimstone

  417. where the beast and the false prophet

  418. are. And they will be tormented day and

  419. night forever and ever and ever AND EVER

  420. BECAUSE WE GO FROM victory to victory to

  421. victory TO VICTORY TO VICTORY. SATAN has

  422. been defeated. He is a defeated foe.

  423. JESUS REIGNS SUPREME ON THE THRONE.

  424. So the cross

  425. >> was the bruised heel.

  426. >> Satan bruised Jesus HEEL ON THE CROSS.

  427. BUT THE resurrection crushed the head of

  428. the devil.

  429. >> He's alive.

  430. HE'S ALIVE. I'M FORGIVEN. I'm redeemed.

  431. HE'S ALIVE. DEATH COULD NOT HOLD HIM.

  432. THE CROSS COULD NOT KILL HIM. JESUS is

  433. alive.

  434. >> Calvary is not the end. It is the

  435. beginning of Satan's defeat. The ancient

  436. world knew that if you injured a

  437. serpent's head, you destroyed its

  438. ability to strike, to slither, and to

  439. survive.

  440. So in the spiritual realm, Jesus

  441. shattered Satan's authority.

  442. >> Now his bite may hurt, but his head is

  443. crushed.

  444. >> HE HAS NO FINAL VICTORY.

  445. >> So what does this mean for you and me?

  446. It means that Satan may strike you but

  447. he cannot defeat you

  448. >> because Jesus has already won the battle

  449. that you are fighting. It means that the

  450. enemy's best blow is temporary.

  451. It's temporary. These light and

  452. momentary afflictions. Do you understand

  453. that? You're going through the valley.

  454. You're not living in the valley. Stop

  455. camping out in the valley and start

  456. pushing through. You were made to

  457. conquer. Your victory's already been

  458. secured.

  459. The bruised heel is THE TESTIMONY THAT

  460. THE HEAD IS already crushed.

  461. >> So here's the the sum the summation of

  462. it.

  463. The first gospel shows three eternal

  464. truths. Number one, God sets the battle,

  465. not Satan.

  466. God is always the first to intervene.

  467. Number two, God provides the redeemer.

  468. God provided Jesus as the promised seed

  469. from the woman. And number three, God

  470. secures the victory.

  471. The serpent is defeated forever. So

  472. Genesis 3:15 is literally the gospel in

    Genesis 3:15

  473. one verse. It's grace in the middle of

  474. judgment. It's hope in the middle of

  475. failure. And it is a savior in the

  476. middle of sin.

  477. And some of you need to get this deep in

  478. your spirit this morning because you've

  479. lived under judgment and condemnation

  480. because you know the good, the bad, and

  481. the ugly about yourself better than

  482. anybody except the devil and you've

  483. lived under condemnation. But Jesus

  484. declares through the Apostle Paul in

  485. Romans 8, there is therefore now no

  486. condemnation to them who are in Christ

  487. Jesus. And then he goes on to talk about

  488. what the wall the law was not able to

  489. do. Jesus did for us through his death

  490. on the cross of Calvary. There is

  491. therefore now no condemnation.

  492. Get that in your spirit. Because here's

  493. what the enemy does. The He does to you

  494. what he did to Eve. He talks to you. He

  495. puts thoughts in your mind just like he

  496. did with Eve. And those thoughts when

  497. you you recognize them, it some of it's

  498. very blatant. It's sin. And you have

  499. this sinful thought. And immediately

  500. that thought moves down into your heart.

  501. And it makes you because it's a dirty

  502. thought, it makes you feel dirty.

  503. Because it's a nasty thought, it makes

  504. you feel nasty. Because it's a wicked

  505. thought, it makes you feel wicked. That

  506. thought moves down into your heart, your

  507. feelings. You begin to feel that way.

  508. And when you begin to feel that way, you

  509. begin to act that way. You begin to talk

  510. that way. You begin to walk that way.

  511. But what don't that's where the battle

  512. is. So if you want to defeat Satan,

  513. understand Jesus already defeated him.

  514. And you take that thought captive as

  515. Paul said, you subject it to the law of

  516. God. You bring it under grace and you

  517. cast that thought out. You disarm the

  518. thought and then you say, "Oh God,

  519. cleanse my heart. Take this feeling away

  520. from me and you begin to declare the

  521. opposite of that thought." You begin to

  522. declare, "I am the righteousness of God

  523. in Christ Jesus. I am holy. I am saved.

  524. I am redeemed. I am bought by the blood

  525. of the lamb. Jesus has set me free. I'm

  526. not the man that I used to be. I don't

  527. go to the places I used to go. I don't

  528. say the things I used to say. I don't do

  529. the things that I used to do. I am

  530. redeemed. I am saved. I am whole. I am

  531. set free by the blood of Jesus. His

  532. blood washes me. Don't lose your

  533. identity to a lie of hell that comes

  534. into your mind through a thought.

  535. Remember who you are and remember what

  536. Jesus did. And it's what he did that

  537. makes you who you are.

  538. So in conclusion,

  539. because Jesus crushed the head of the

  540. serpent,

  541. you stand firm in the conflict.

  542. Having done all, Paul said, "Stand.

  543. Stand." But then he went on to describe

  544. how you stand. You stand in armor. You

  545. stand in the breastplate of

  546. righteousness. You stand with the belt

  547. of truth girded around your weight. You

  548. stand with your feet fitted with the

  549. gospel. You stand with a shield of

  550. faith. You stand with a helmet of

  551. salvation. You stand armed with the

  552. sword of the spirit, which is the word

  553. of God. And you begin to speak that

  554. word. You stand firm in the conflict.

  555. And then you believe the promise.

  556. You got to believe what God promised

  557. you. And then number three, you got to

  558. walk in victory.

  559. Walk in victory. You walk forward. You

  560. don't turn around and run.

  561. The armor protects the front because the

  562. Roman soldier was designed to always

  563. push the battle to the enemy, not to

  564. retreat.

  565. Stop running from the devil. That's why

  566. you get hit in the back all the time.

  567. Stop running. Start resisting.

  568. The enemy may strike you, but he cannot

  569. conquer what God has redeemed. And you

  570. are

  571. redeemed. Can somebody say, "Praise the

  572. Lord." Come on, somebody give praise to

  573. the Lord. Hallelujah.

  574. Come on, praise him. Let the redeemed of

  575. the Lord say so. Whom he has redeemed

  576. from the hand of destruction. Satan

  577. tried to destroy me, but I've been

  578. redeemed. I've been washed. I've been

  579. saved. Hallelujah.

  580. Shout to the Lord with the voice of

  581. triumph.
