  1. Good morning, North Palm.

  2. [applause]

  3. >> Praise the Lord. Thank you. It's so good

  4. to I I just want to say thank you for

  5. for being here. Thank you for being who

  6. you are. This is an incredible

  7. community of faith and uh it's the

  8. greatest privilege of my life to be a

  9. part of this family. So, I just want to

  10. thank you for that. I'd like to ask you

  11. if you would turn your Bible to a

  12. passage of scripture. You know, as as I

  13. um recently finished going through the

  14. Old Testament,

  15. this passage uh was just been stirred

  16. inside of me again. I shared with you a

  17. couple weeks ago from Hosea chapter 6.

    Hosea 6 chapter mention

  18. And it it mentioned in the last part of

  19. what I shared with you about the rain

  20. and I just feel like Holy Spirit is

  21. really stirring that. So, if you will

  22. open your Bibles and turn with me to

  23. Joel chap 2. Joel chapter 2 verse 23-

    Joel 2:23–27

  24. 27. And we want to want to look at that

  25. a little deeper. The rain. Joel chapter

    Joel 2 chapter mention

  26. 2 beginning with Why don't we just go

  27. ahead and begin with verse 21.

  28. Joel 2:21. Fear not, O land. Be glad and

    Joel 2:21

  29. rejoice

  30. for the Lord has done marvelous things.

  31. Do not be afraid, you beast of the

  32. field, for the open pastures are

  33. springing up, and the trees the tree

  34. bears its fruit, and the fig tree and

  35. the vine yield their strength. Look at

  36. verse 23. Then be glad, be glad then,

  37. you children of Zion, and rejoice in the

  38. Lord your God, for he has given you the

  39. former rain faithfully. and he will

  40. cause the rain to come down for you, the

  41. former rain and the latter rain in the

  42. first month. The threshing floors shall

  43. be full of wheat.

  44. The vats shall overflow with new wine

  45. and oil.

  46. So I will restore to you the years that

  47. the swarming locust is eaten, the

  48. crawling locust, the consuming locust,

  49. the chewing locust, my great army which

  50. I sent among you. You shall eat in

  51. plenty and be satisfied and praise the

  52. name of the Lord your God who has dealt

  53. wondrously with you. And my people shall

  54. never be put to shame. Then you shall

  55. know that I am in the midst of Israel. I

  56. am the Lord your God. There is no other.

  57. My people shall never be put to shame.

  58. Now, we can't read this without reading

  59. the next two verses. And it shall come

  60. to pass afterward that I will pour out

  61. my spirit on all flesh. Your sons and

  62. your daughters shall prophesy.

  63. Your old men shall dream dreams. Your

  64. young men shall see visions. And also on

  65. my men servants and on my maid servants

  66. I will pour out my spirit in those days.

  67. Take a moment and lift your hands with

  68. me. Come on everybody. Come on. Lift

  69. your hands with me. Pray this prayer.

  70. Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit,

  71. >> open my ears

  72. >> that I can hear what you have to say.

  73. >> Open my heart.

  74. >> Make it receptive. I give you permission

  75. to move deep in my life to form my heart

  76. >> to form my character. Jesus, have your

  77. way in me today. Amen.

  78. You know, imagine

  79. you wake up one morning and you discover

  80. that everything that you have spent your

  81. lifetime building is gone.

  82. The business has failed.

  83. The relationship has collapsed.

  84. Your health has changed.

  85. and your future that you so carefully

  86. planned

  87. it just seems impossible.

  88. You know that's the atmosphere

  89. that Joel chapter 1 was written in.

    Joel 1 chapter mention

  90. There was wave after wave of locust that

  91. had consumed all of Judah's crops. The

  92. fields were laying bare. The grain was

  93. gone. The vines had dried up and even

  94. the worship in the temple was affected

  95. because there was no grain. There was no

  96. wine to bring as an offering to worship

  97. the Lord. And in Joel 1 verse 4, the

    Joel 1:4

  98. word says, "What the chewing locust left

  99. the swarming locust has eaten." What the

  100. swarming locust left the crawling locust

  101. has eaten. What the crawling locust

  102. left, the consuming locust has eaten.

  103. Whatever survived one wave was consumed

  104. by the next wave. And so the devastation

  105. that Judah was facing was absolutely

  106. complete. In Joel 1 verse 12, the vine

    Joel 1:12

  107. has dried up and the fig tree has

  108. withered. the pomegranate tree, the palm

  109. tree also, and the apple tree. All the

  110. trees of the field are withered.

  111. Surely joy has withered away from the

  112. sons of men.

  113. Look at that in Joel 1:12.

    Joel 1:12

  114. He said, "Joy has withered away from the

  115. sons of men.

  116. The loss has moved from the field. It's

  117. moved from their crops. It's moved from

  118. their finances. It's moved from their

  119. provision. And it's moved into their

  120. heart.

  121. Their hope was gone. You know, some

  122. losses do more than just change our

  123. circumstances.

  124. Sometimes you face loss and it drains

  125. your joy.

  126. Sometimes you you face loss and it

  127. weakens your faith.

  128. There are some losses that you go

  129. through that even diminish your

  130. expectation. It's like they steal your

  131. hope.

  132. But Joel doesn't end

  133. with a withered field.

  134. You see, the God who permits the ground

  135. to become dry is also the God who can

  136. command the rain to fall. Yes.

  137. >> So, I want you to see that devastation

  138. when you go through these these dark

  139. seasons of the soul. When you go through

  140. these times, it can become an incredible

  141. awakening.

  142. And so Joel wasn't reporting just an

  143. agricultural emergency. He was

  144. interpreting this crisis through the

  145. lens of God. He was seeing spiritually

  146. that the plague was really a warning

  147. that the day of the Lord was near. That

  148. there would there was coming a decisive

  149. intervention of God that God was going

  150. to at the same time bring judgment as

  151. well as redemption.

  152. And so the devastation exposed what the

  153. prosperity

  154. had concealed.

  155. As long as the barns were full, as long

  156. as the vineyards were productive, as

  157. long as the bank account was there, as

  158. long as the deals were coming, then the

  159. people could assume that everything was

  160. well.

  161. It is well.

  162. But when the crops disappeared,

  163. when the bank account ran dry,

  164. then their spiritual emptiness

  165. was exposed.

  166. The the real lack became visible.

  167. You see, prosperity can make you feel

  168. self-sufficient.

  169. We begin with trusting our resources,

  170. trusting our abilities, trusting our

  171. accomplishments rather than putting our

  172. trust in God. And so crisis reveals how

  173. little control

  174. we actually

  175. possess.

  176. But in the crisis, there is a call from

  177. God. God calls in the crisis. In Joel

  178. chap 2

  179. verse number 12 and 13. Now therefore

  180. says the Lord turn

  181. to me with all your heart with fasting

  182. with weeping and with mourning. Look at

  183. verse 13. This is really interesting. So

  184. rend your heart

  185. and not your garments.

  186. Return to the Lord your God, for he is

  187. gracious and merciful, slow to anger and

  188. of great kindness, and he relents from

  189. doing harm. So here he says, "Turn to

  190. the Lord." The Hebrew word for turn here

  191. literally means to turn back, to return,

  192. to change direction. And so you see

  193. biblical repentance is more than just

  194. regret regretting the consequences of

  195. your sin.

  196. >> If you're really repentant then there is

  197. a decisive turning of your heart from

  198. sin toward God.

  199. And so when in in the ancient culture

  200. and you you see this in both the Old

  201. Testament and the New Testament, when

  202. someone would be griefstricken there,

  203. they would literally rip their clothes.

  204. They would tear those expensive

  205. garments. But what God is saying is, I

  206. want more than an outward performance. I

  207. want you to rend your heart. Just don't

  208. act like it on the outside. Just don't

  209. put on a show for somebody. I want to

  210. get the real you. I want you to render,

  211. TEAR YOUR HEART.

  212. So you see that genuine revival begins

  213. when people humble themselves. When they

  214. confess their sin, when they abandoned

  215. compromise,

  216. when they return with all of their heart

  217. back to God.

  218. So you can see in real life,

  219. revival doesn't begin with music.

  220. >> That's right.

  221. But music is a sign of revival.

  222. >> Revival doesn't revi revival doesn't

  223. begin with crowds. But when revival

  224. occurs, crowds will come. Revival

  225. doesn't revival doesn't begin with

  226. emotion. Although in revival there is a

  227. deep emotional move. Rival Revival

  228. doesn't begin WITH MANIFESTATIONS.

  229. ALTHOUGH in revival there are

  230. manifestations, there are healings.

  231. There are demons being cast out. There

  232. are all TYPES OF MANIFESTATIONS, BUT

  233. THEY DON'T BEGIN WITH THAT.

  234. Revival begins when you come to an altar

  235. and you surrender EVERYTHING TO THE

  236. LORDSHIP OF JESUS.

  237. That's when revival begins.

  238. It's when Holy Spirit convicts us.

  239. When the BLOOD OF JESUS FLOWS FROM THE

  240. CROSS OF CALVARY and it cleanses us.

  241. and God restores

  242. fellowship

  243. with his people.

  244. >> That's when revival

  245. begins. So, we've got to go. We've got

  246. to ask more than Lord, will you change

  247. my circumstance?

  248. No. We've got to cry out and say, "God,

  249. what are you wanting to change in me?

  250. So the rain

  251. announces

  252. restoration.

  253. Joel chapter 2 verse 23.

    Joel 2:23

  254. He said, 'Be glad then, you children of

  255. Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God,

  256. for he has given you the former rain

  257. faithfully, and he will cause the rain

  258. to come down for you, the former rain

  259. and the latter rain in the first month.

  260. So, Judah depended on seasonal rain.

  261. Now, the former rain would come in the

  262. autumn and it would soften up the ground

  263. and and the it got the ground where the

  264. seed could be planted. And then the

  265. latter rain would come in the spring and

  266. it would cause the grain to mature and

  267. and it would it would stimulate the

  268. harvest.

  269. And so one rain began the process and

  270. the other rain brought it to a

  271. completion.

  272. So understand that God is the one who

  273. initiates restoration.

  274. Notice the language that he uses. He has

  275. given and he will cause.

  276. God is the subject of the action.

  277. Restoration begins with God. It doesn't

  278. begin with you. It doesn't begin with

  279. your effort. It doesn't begin with your

  280. intellect, your ingenuity, your

  281. strength. Restoration begins with God.

  282. >> The people don't manufacture the rain.

  283. The people receive the rain.

  284. Repentance doesn't purchase God's favor.

  285. Repentance positions your heart to

  286. receive the grace of God that he's given

  287. freely.

  288. >> So, we don't earn restoration because

  289. we're religious.

  290. We respond in faith. We respond in

  291. obedience to God. And God IS GRACIOUS.

  292. AND GOD IS MERCIFUL.

  293. And so God's telling Judah,

  294. "The locusts don't have the final word.

  295. The drought will not have the final

  296. word.

  297. >> I will send the rain."

  298. And so, Holy Spirit is telling many of

  299. you today,

  300. sickness

  301. will not have the final word.

  302. Addiction

  303. will not have

  304. >> the final word.

  305. >> Divorce,

  306. separation will not have the final word.

  307. >> Lack, bank, bankruptcy, financial want

  308. will not have the final word.

  309. >> Depression

  310. will not have the final word. Fear will

  311. not HAVE THE FINAL WORD.

  312. >> You see there are many there are things

  313. there are some things in life that only

  314. God can do.

  315. >> We can plant but it's God that gives the

  316. increase.

  317. >> We can preach but it's God that convicts

  318. the heart. We can prepare. We can

  319. organize. We can counsel. we can

  320. encourage, but it's only God who can

  321. send a real spiritual awakening.

  322. [applause]

  323. In Zechariah

    Zechariah 10:1

  324. 10 verse 1,

  325. ask the Lord for rain

  326. in the time of the latter rain.

  327. The Lord will make flashing clouds and

  328. he will give them showers of rain, grass

  329. in the field for everyone. You see, when

  330. the ground is dry, you have to look

  331. toward heaven.

  332. Here's some insight. God's faithful to

  333. send the rain. He is faithful to send

  334. the rain. that that phrase that's

  335. translated the former reign faithfully

  336. in Joel 2:23, he gives the former reign

    Joel 2:23

  337. faithfully. It conveys that the rain is

  338. given in righteousness. That the rain is

  339. sent faithfully. It's sent rightly. It's

  340. it the rain is sent in keeping with

  341. God's covenant of mercy. In that Hebrew

  342. phrase, that word that's translated

  343. former rain, it refers to that early

  344. rain, that seasonal rain that's needed

  345. to prepare the ground for planting. And

  346. it's the same Hebrew word that is used

  347. for teacher.

  348. So you understand that the word is

  349. taught Joel 2 is speaking about God

  350. restoring the rainfall that is

  351. necessary. You are God teaches you and

  352. then he brings about and waters what he

  353. was taught and there comes a harvest

  354. from that teaching. God is restoring

  355. what is necessary for the land to

  356. flourish and for you to flourish. And so

  357. the message is clear. God faithfully

  358. provides exactly what you need to

  359. prosper at the right time.

  360. He knows exactly what the ground needs.

  361. He knows how much it needs. He knows

  362. when it needs it. Now, we can think that

  363. the rain is late, but God is never

  364. careless with the seasons of our lives.

  365. His timing is purposeful.

  366. >> His character is righteous. And his

  367. promises are dependable.

  368. You can count on God.

  369. >> He will never let you down.

  370. >> Now, notice what he said in Joel 23,

  371. that there's joy that comes.

  372. Joy comes before the harvest.

  373. Be glad then, you children of Zion, and

  374. rejoice in the Lord your God. Be glad

  375. and rejoice in the Lord your God. Your

  376. joy is not rooted in what you can see at

  377. the time. It shouldn't be.

  378. >> Your joy should not be rooted in what

  379. you see in the circumstances right now.

  380. Your joy should be rooted in the

  381. character of the God who made the

  382. promise.

  383. >> I don't look at my circumstance to

  384. determine my joy. I look to God to

  385. determine my determine my joy.

  386. >> Anyone can rejoice after the rain falls,

  387. but faith rejoices when the clouds are

  388. still gathering.

  389. >> So, it's not denial.

  390. Faith doesn't pretend that the locust

  391. never came.

  392. Faith looks honestly at the devastation

  393. and then declares that the devastation

  394. is not greater than God.

  395. [applause]

  396. Amen.

  397. Habacook 3 verse 17 and 18. Though the

  398. fig tree, listen to this, though the fig

  399. tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on

  400. the vines,

  401. though the labor of the olive may fail

  402. and the fields yield no food, though the

  403. flock may be cut off from the fold and

  404. there be no herd in the stalls, yet I

  405. will rejoice in the Lord. I will joy in

  406. the God of my salvation.

  407. See, you you you've got to grasp this in

  408. your spirit. Faith is not a denial of

  409. fact that says there's no devastation,

  410. there's no problem, there's no

  411. difficulty. That's not faith.

  412. Faith goes deeper than surface facts.

  413. Faith goes to the depth of truth.

  414. >> And faith says, "Even in the

  415. devastation,

  416. even in the problems, even in the

  417. difficulties, my God remains faithful."

  418. Faith says, "My foundation is secure. My

  419. hope is steadfast.

  420. My joy is present and overflowing."

  421. Faith says, "My God [screaming]

  422. is good. Though I have been young, but

  423. yet now am old, yet I have never seen

  424. his righteous forsaken, nor his seed

  425. begging for bread. That my God shall

  426. supply ALL OF YOUR NEED according to his

  427. riches in glory by Christ Jesus my Lord.

  428. We rejoice not because every field is

  429. already green,

  430. but because the Lord of the harvest has

  431. spoken

  432. and his word never

  433. fails.

  434. >> Now, you need to get this. God restores

  435. the years.

  436. In Joel 2:25,

    Joel 2:25

  437. listen to what he said. He said, "I will

  438. restore to you the years that the

  439. swarming locust is eaten, the crawling

  440. locust, the consuming locust, the

  441. chewing locust, my great army which I

  442. sent among you. I will restore to you

  443. the years." God

  444. doesn't just say, "I'm going to give you

  445. another harvest."

  446. He says, "I will restore the years." And

  447. that Hebrew word

  448. restore is shalom.

  449. And it carries this sense of being

  450. whole, making whole, compensating,

  451. repaying. I will repay you. I will bring

  452. something to completeness. And it's

  453. related to that same idea of shalom

  454. which was translated peace but also

  455. means wholeness and wellbeing. So God

  456. wasn't promising to reverse time.

  457. The years would remain part of is of

  458. Israel's history. That devastation was

  459. part of their history. He was promising

  460. such a renewed fruitfulness that the

  461. devastation of the past would no longer

  462. define their future.

  463. >> Are you getting that?

  464. >> Some of you are letting your trauma from

  465. the past define your future.

  466. >> But God is not negating what you went

  467. through. He's just saying that's not

  468. going to determine your future because

  469. restoration is more than replacement.

  470. >> God may not reproduce every circumstance

  471. exactly as it existed before. But

  472. restoration does not always it doesn't

  473. always mean receiving the same

  474. relationship, having the same position,

  475. having the same opportunity, or even

  476. having the same possession. God's

  477. restoration can be greater than just

  478. simple replacement.

  479. What do you mean? Well, look at the word

  480. of God. Joseph did not recover the years

  481. he spent as a slave and as a prisoner,

  482. but God redeemed those years by using

  483. him to save HIS FAMILY AS well as the

  484. nations of the world.

  485. Naomi could not erase the sorrow of Moab

  486. where she lost her husband and she lost

  487. her oldest son and she lost her youngest

  488. son. She God didn't ERASE THAT SORROW

  489. BUT HE brought Ruth into her life and he

  490. AND HE PLACED HER IN A FAMILY in the

  491. redemptive line of Jesus Christ the

  492. Messiah.

  493. Hallelujah.

  494. >> Peter couldn't go back and undo his

  495. denial of Jesus,

  496. but the resurrected Christ restored him

  497. and empowered him to preach on the day

  498. of Pentecost and 3,000 souls were added

  499. to the church in one message.

  500. [snorts]

  501. >> Some of you listen to me this morning.

  502. Some of you have lost years to

  503. addiction.

  504. Some of you have lost years to

  505. bitterness.

  506. Some of you have lost years to fear,

  507. years to grief. I know what it is to

  508. lose years to grief, to lose years to

  509. rebellion, to lose years to broken

  510. relationships, to lose years to harmful

  511. ACTIONS BECAUSE SOMEBODY abused you or

  512. somebody talked ABOUT YOU OR SOMEBODY

  513. DID you wrong.

  514. The promise doesn't mean the past was

  515. insignificant.

  516. >> It means the past does not control your

  517. future.

  518. [applause]

  519. >> The locust may have eaten the harvest,

  520. but it CANNOT DESTROY THE GOD WHO SENDS

  521. THE RAIN.

  522. So what you have to do is take those

  523. BROKEN YEARS AND PUT THEM IN THE HANDS

  524. OF JESUS AND LET JESUS RESTORE THE

  525. BROKEN years that Satan came against.

  526. [applause]

  527. >> And I want you to notice that

  528. restoration reveals God's abundance.

  529. In Joel 2:24, the threshing floor shall

    Joel 2:24

  530. be full of wheat, and the vats shall

  531. overflow with new wine and oil. Every

  532. image speaks about a reversal

  533. and of abundance,

  534. the threshing floors are full, the vats

  535. are overflowing,

  536. the people are eating in plenty, and the

  537. years are restored. You see, it's the

  538. opposite of chapter 1. Every field

  539. becomes full. Every dried vine becomes

  540. fruitful. Every withheld offering is

  541. restored. The joy that had withered

  542. begins to live again.

  543. >> Yet the purpose of restoration is not

  544. personal comfort.

  545. The purpose of restoration, Joel 2:26

    Joel 2:26

  546. says that the people will eat and be

  547. satisfied and praise the name of the

  548. Lord.

  549. So restoration is intended to produce

  550. worship.

  551. THE GREATEST PROMISE THAT JOEL gives is

  552. the promise of his presence. In verse

  553. 27, he said, "Then you shall know that I

  554. am the Lord. I though I am in the midst

  555. of Israel. I am the Lord your God and

  556. there is no other. My people shall never

  557. be put to shame. Did you hear that? He

  558. said, "I am in the midst of Israel." So

  559. the ultimate blessing is not the wheat

  560. for provision. It's not the wine. It's

  561. not the oil. The greatest blessing is

  562. the renewed presence of God. among his

  563. people.

  564. >> So without the rain

  565. or the rain without his presence would

  566. only make them prosperous.

  567. But when you have rain that is

  568. accompanied by his presence, then he's

  569. restoring them as a covenant people.

  570. Faith is never a pursuit of blessing.

  571. Faith is never a pursuit of

  572. breakthroughs. Faith is never a pursuit

  573. of an emotional experience.

  574. FAITH IS WHEN WE PURSUE THE BLESSER.

  575. >> WHEN WE HUNGER FOR THE PRESENCE OF

  576. JESUS, [screaming] WHEN WE HUNGER FOR

  577. THE TRANSFORMING POWER OF THE HOLY

  578. SPIRIT IN our life.

  579. You see, if God restores the field,

  580. but he does not possess the heart,

  581. then the deepest purpose of restoration

  582. is missed.

  583. God restores us so that our lives will

  584. testify of his mercy, that our lives

  585. will reflect his holiness, that our

  586. lives will carry his presence into a

  587. broken world.

  588. So the greater reign of the Holy Spirit,

  589. he speaks of in verse 28.

  590. He said, "It shall come to pass

  591. afterward that I will pour out my spirit

  592. on all flesh. Your sons and your

  593. daughters shall prophesy. Old men shall

  594. dream dreams. Your young men shall see

  595. visions. And also on my men servants and

  596. my maid servants. I will pour out my

  597. spirit in those days." So Joel's

  598. prophecy moves from this agricultural

  599. materialistic restoration to a spiritual

  600. outpouring. God would not only pour out

  601. the rain on the ground. He's pouring out

  602. his spirit on his people.

  603. Rain revives dry ground. BUT IT'S THE

  604. HOLY SPIRIT OUTPOURING THAT REVIVES dry

  605. hearts.

  606. RAIN PRODUCES FRUIT, BUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

  607. PRODUCES THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT AND THE

  608. GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT.

  609. >> Rain brings life where there's been

  610. barren, barrenness, but the Holy Spirit

  611. BRINGS A NEW LIFE THAT'S ONLY FOUND IN

  612. JESUS CHRIST.

  613. And that promise was inaugurated at

  614. Pentecost.

  615. In Acts chapter 2, the Holy Spirit was

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  616. poured out upon the waiting believers

  617. and Peter stood up and he declared this.

  618. This is what was spoken by the prophet

  619. Joel. Pentecost wasn't a manufactured

  620. emotional experience. It wasn't then and

  621. it's not today. Pentecost is the

  622. fulfillment and the inauguration of

  623. God's promised last day outpouring. when

  624. he said, "I will pour out MY SPIRIT UPON

  625. ALL FLESH." AND SO, so Joel 2:28,

    Joel 2:28

  626. announced he he said, "On your sons and

  627. on your daughters, on the young men and

  628. on the old men." He said, "It' I'M GOING

  629. TO POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON THE SLAVE AND

  630. AND ALSO ON THE FREE. I'm pouring out my

  631. spirit."

  632. So, the Holy Ghost outpouring was not

  633. for an elite class. It was for every

  634. believer to receive his presence.

  635. And the church is empowered to witness.

  636. The church is empowered to serve. The

  637. church is empowered to exalt Christ.

  638. So listen, don't put God in a box.

  639. Don't tell him he has to do things

  640. according to your rigid formula, your

  641. religious traditions. As I was going

  642. through the book of Matthew and or the

  643. Gospel of Matthew and and Mark and and

  644. how the traditions of the scribes and

  645. the Pharisees nauseated Jesus,

  646. how they invalidated the word of God

  647. through their tradition. We do that

  648. today. We get caught up in the way

  649. things do we do church. The way we do

  650. church is not necessarily the way God

  651. wants to move in your life.

  652. >> We need a fresh outpouring.

  653. >> We need another Pentecost. Not a

  654. historical Pentecost, but we need a

  655. renewed Pentecostal power in the church.

  656. We need the spirit of God to convict

  657. sinners. We need the Holy Ghost to

  658. empower witnesses. We need the spirit to

  659. distribute GIFTS AND TO HEAL BROKEN

  660. LIVES AND TO REPRODUCE a holy character

  661. and glorify Jesus.

  662. >> [snorts]

  663. >> So maybe today

  664. you're standing in a locust eaten field

  665. [snorts]

  666. and you remember when your joy was

  667. alive. You remember when your faith was

  668. strong. You remember when your life was

  669. fruitful.

  670. But now

  671. all you see around you is the evidence

  672. of loss.

  673. Joel doesn't deny

  674. the devastation.

  675. The fields were empty.

  676. The vines

  677. were dry.

  678. The people's joy had withered.

  679. But devastation

  680. was not the final chapter.

  681. And I submit to you this morning, God is

  682. saying, "I will cause the rain to fall."

  683. He is saying, "I am restoring the

  684. years."

  685. He is saying, "I am in your midst and I

  686. will pour out my spirit." And that's

  687. what Jesus did on the cross of Calvary.

  688. He was devastated so that we could be

  689. healed.
