  1. Good morning, NORTH PALM.

  2. Praise the Lord. God bless you. What an

  3. incredible honor it is that uh we this

  4. opportunity to be together. Uh I love

  5. you and this is the highlight of my life

  6. just to be connected with you as family.

  7. Um

  8. wow, what an incredible day we've had so

  9. far. Amen. worship was the bomb.

  10. I will feast on this. I I like to take

  11. this worship and use that in in my time

  12. uh each week. And so I listen through

  13. this week's worship set each day. And uh

  14. it's just a refreshing thing, so

  15. empowering. Now, I'd like to ask you if

  16. you would open your Bibles to Matthew

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  17. chapter 4. I got a lot I want to share

  18. with you. This is the message that I

  19. really feel like God has for all of

  20. North Palm at this time, this season.

  21. And I and I want to talk to you about

  22. the introduction to the kingdom. We're

  23. going to look at two passages of

  24. scripture. And really, they're they're

  25. bookends. Uh Matthew 4:23 and then

    Matthew 4:23

  26. Matthew 9:35.

    Matthew 9:35

  27. Let's begin with Matthew 4:23.

    Matthew 4:23

  28. And Jesus went about all Galilee,

  29. teaching in their synagogues, preaching

  30. the gospel of the kingdom, and healing

  31. all kinds of sicknesses

  32. and all kinds of disease among the

  33. people. Take a moment. Lift your hands

  34. with me. Come on, everybody. Lift your

  35. hands. Everybody pray this prayer with

  36. me out loud. Holy Spirit,

  37. >> open my ears

  38. >> that I can hear. what you have to say.

  39. Open my heart. Make it receptive. I give

  40. you permission to move deep in my life.

  41. >> To form my heart

  42. >> to form my character. Jesus, have your

  43. way

  44. >> in me

  45. >> today.

  46. >> Amen.

  47. >> Praise the Lord. What a what a wonderful

  48. wonderful opportunity the Lord's given

  49. us. Now.

  50. All right. Now

  51. Jesus.

  52. This is really

  53. just weird.

  54. There we go. Sometimes you just have to

  55. cast the devil out of the electronics.

  56. Now, to give you a little background,

  57. Jesus had just called his disciples,

  58. Peter and his brother Andrew, James and

  59. John, the sons of Zebedee. And um and

  60. now he's giving us Matthew's giving us

  61. an overview of Jesus ministry and and

  62. his ministry touches the entire region

  63. of Galilee. And so, Matthew's not

  64. describing a single day. This is not

  65. just like something that happened in a

  66. day. what he's doing is painting a

  67. panoramic snapshot, a picture of the way

  68. that Jesus does ministry, the way he did

  69. literally everything. And so this

  70. picture is repeated again verbatim in

  71. Matthew 9:35.

    Matthew 9:35

  72. In Matthew 9:35,

    Matthew 9:35

  73. it says that Jesus went about all the

  74. cities and villages teaching in look at

  75. the teaching in their synagogues

  76. and preaching the gospel of the kingdom.

  77. And now look at what he says in ver in

  78. verse 35 of chapter 9, healing every

  79. sickness and every disease among the

  80. people. Wow. Now, now what falls between

  81. these two summaries, the beginning and

  82. the end, you have the the sermon on the

  83. mount. Uh, blessed are the poor, blessed

  84. are the me. Matthew chapter 5, chapter

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  85. 6, chapter 7. Incredible. And then in in

  86. chapter u 8 and n, you have a series of

  87. miracles where Jesus cleanses the leper.

  88. He heals the centurion servant. He even

  89. heals Peter's mother-in-law. Well, now

  90. there's a real deep message in that. Uh

  91. I've got the best mother-in-law in the

  92. world, just for the record. But anyway,

  93. um let me get out of that hole. He he

  94. cast out demons in this passage. He

  95. healed the Bible says many more. He

  96. calmed the storm. I mean, even the wind

  97. and the waves have to obey him. And then

  98. there are two demon-possessed men that

  99. he heals, that he delivers from demons.

  100. He causes a paralytic man to be able to

  101. walk again. He raises a dead girl up out

  102. of the grave. He heals the woman with

  103. the issue of blood. He also heals two

  104. blind men. He heals the centurion's

  105. servant. He heals a man who was mute. I

  106. mean, it's incredible. And so Matthew is

  107. showing us a pattern of how Jesus lived

  108. ministry.

  109. And so to further set the scene, Jesus

  110. had just been tempted in the wilderness

  111. in Matthew 4:E 1-1. He went through that

  112. wilderness temptation. Each time, what

  113. did he do? He said, "This is what the

  114. Lord says. Thus says the Lord, it is

  115. written." He came against the temptation

  116. of Satan with the word of God. And then

  117. he withdraws to Galilee. John is

  118. arrested. He's taken to prison. And

  119. Jesus begins to preach the message of

  120. the kingdom. He says, "Repent for the

  121. kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew

    Matthew 4:17

  122. chapter 4 verse 17. And now he's

  123. widening his scope. He's he's not just

  124. in Capernaum, but now he's going

  125. throughout the entire region of Galilee.

  126. And so the pattern that we see in this

  127. is is really simple yet profound. He

  128. Jesus is focused on three things and and

  129. these aren't random things. There is a

  130. unified ministry portrait that's being

  131. given. And and I you've got to get this

  132. because this is what the kingdom is all

  133. about. This is what North Palm is all

  134. about. Jesus went about teaching,

  135. preaching, and healing. So teaching

  136. addresses the mind. It is the

  137. impartation of knowledge. If you want to

  138. change, you first have to change your

  139. mind. The the very essence of the word

  140. repent is change the way you think.

  141. >> So teaching has to do with the mind.

  142. Preaching addresses the will because

  143. what is preaching? Preaching is a

  144. proclamation that demands a response.

  145. Preaching is a little bit more

  146. confrontational than teaching.

  147. >> Just saying. And then healing addresses

  148. the body. And so you see Jesus ministers

  149. to the whole person. Holistic medicine

  150. didn't come from from Eastern religions.

  151. It came from Jesus. Jesus heals body,

  152. soul, and spirit.

  153. >> And then the word says

  154. that um nobody's excluded. You know,

  155. in in Matthew 4:23, as we kind of break

    Matthew 4:23

  156. this down, the Bible says he went about

  157. all Galilee. all Galilee. The word went

  158. about that's translated there literally

  159. means to lead around or to go about. And

  160. so Jesus is doing itinerate ministry.

  161. He's doing mobile ministry. This is not

  162. the the pastor, the good shepherd that's

  163. that's just taking care of the flock. He

  164. is on a mission. And that mission

  165. required him to travel. And so Jesus was

  166. at this time was doing the work of an

  167. evangelist.

  168. You know Jesus is the perfect five-fold.

  169. He is the apostle of apostles, the

  170. prophet of all prophets, the evangelist

  171. of evangelists, the pastor, the shepherd

  172. of all pastors, and the teacher of all

  173. teachers. And so he's doing the work of

  174. an evangelist, but he's doing it in all

  175. of Galilee. Now that's emphasizing the

  176. scope of his ministry. And you need to

  177. see this. There is no region of Galilee,

  178. no city in Galilee, no village in

  179. Galilee, no people group in Galilee, no

  180. national origin or ethnicity that is

  181. excluded.

  182. And Galilee was a large populated region

  183. that had both Jews and Gentiles that

  184. comprised the population. In Matthew

    Matthew 4:15

  185. 4:15, it is referred to as Galilee of

  186. the Gentiles. And so you need to get

  187. this. It this is important to

  188. understand. Jesus doesn't leave anyone

  189. out.

  190. >> He doesn't leave anyone out. He's making

  191. his ministry about reaching the people

  192. that society has marginalized.

  193. M

  194. >> and there are some of you folk here

  195. today and some of you watching online

  196. this morning that you feel like you have

  197. been marginalized

  198. that you've been forgotten

  199. that God somehow does not

  200. has not will not visit you.

  201. But here's the truth.

  202. God has not, God will not, and God

  203. cannot leave you out.

  204. >> TODAY IS YOUR DAY OF SALVATION. IT IS

  205. YOUR DAY OF VISITATION. IT IS YOUR DAY

  206. OF ENCOUNTER. AND THIS MORNING, GOD

  207. WANTS TO ENCOUNTER YOU.

  208. >> He's here TO CONFRONT YOUR NEED. HE'S

  209. HERE TO RESTORE YOUR BROKENNESS. HE'S

  210. HERE TO BRING YOU YOUR FREEDOM. HE'S

  211. HERE TO completely liberate you FROM

  212. EVERY POWER OF DARKNESS THAT BRINGS

  213. BONDAGE to you, to your body, to your

  214. soul, to your spirit.

  215. >> Amen, pastor.

  216. >> Now, he was teaching. This is

  217. interesting. He was teaching in their

  218. synagogues.

  219. >> That's right.

  220. Oh my. Come on, man. The the word that's

  221. that's translated uh teaching is is

  222. literally a systematic instruction. So,

  223. here you have the God of creation, the

  224. lily of the valley, the bright morning

  225. star, the fairest of 10,000. Here you

  226. have the rock of all ages. You have

  227. Emmanuel. You have you have the the wise

  228. counselor. You have the God of gods, the

  229. king of kings. You have the Lord of

  230. lords giving systematic instruction in

  231. their synagogue.

  232. And the synagogue was the place that you

  233. would go

  234. for the reading of the scripture and the

  235. explanation of the scripture. And so

  236. Jesus is operating within their

  237. religious structure.

  238. And so Matthew says that Jesus was

  239. teaching in their

  240. synagogues.

  241. He was teaching in the synagogues that

  242. belong to the Jewish establishment.

  243. They weren't his synagogues.

  244. They were their synagogues.

  245. You see,

  246. ownership

  247. is the key.

  248. The owner controls what happens.

  249. Oh, you you you not picking up what I'm

  250. laying down.

  251. The owner controls who's in charge.

  252. The owner determines the terms. He

  253. dictates the terms of operation.

  254. How we do business.

  255. The owner is the decision maker.

  256. So Jesus didn't say, "I will build

  257. Mark's church."

  258. Jesus didn't say, "I'm going to build

  259. Peter's church or Tim's church or

  260. Angela's church."

  261. Jesus didn't say he was going to build

  262. your church.

  263. Jesus said he was going to build his

  264. church. And he said it plainly in

  265. Matthew chapter 16

    Matthew 16 chapter mention

  266. verse number 18. I say to you that you

  267. are Peter and on this rock I will build

  268. my church and the gates of Hades shall

  269. not prevail against it. And so Matthew

  270. is anticipating a conflict that's going

  271. to take place on who really owns the

  272. church.

  273. And so he's preaching in the church in

  274. the synagogue there, not the law of

  275. Moses. Although Jesus is the fulfillment

  276. of the law, he's not violating the law.

  277. He is preaching the gospel of the

  278. kingdom.

  279. The kingdom.

  280. So the word translated preaching means

  281. to herald. It's like the king sends out

  282. a an an announcer on the street corner

  283. and he publicly announces in a very loud

  284. way what the message is from the king.

  285. That's preaching and that's different

  286. from teaching. Preaching is a

  287. proclamation with urgency.

  288. That's my excuse for sometimes

  289. I get accused sometimes of yelling when

  290. I preach.

  291. I have tried my best to com to calm it

  292. down.

  293. It's hard. You know, it's it is really

  294. really hard. And some I know some folk

  295. just can't take it because they've been

  296. around the quiet so long. And I'm not

  297. hating on them. I I love good teaching.

  298. There's nothing wrong with that. But the

  299. content of the message that Jesus is

  300. preaching is the gospel of the kingdom.

  301. And so you need to understand it's not

  302. the gospel of the kingdom tomorrow, not

  303. in the distant future. It's the gospel

  304. of the kingdom today.

  305. It it's breaking in now. That's the same

  306. message that John preached in Matthew

  307. chapter chapter 3 verse number two. John

  308. preached that uh repent for the kingdom

  309. of heaven is at hand. And that's the

  310. message that Jesus started preaching in

  311. Matthew chapter 4 verse 17. From that

    Matthew 4:17

  312. time Jesus began to preach and to say

  313. repent, change your mind, change the way

  314. you think because because the kingdom of

  315. heaven is at hand. The kingdom of heaven

  316. is near. And and this is good news. This

  317. is really good news. I love how the NASB

  318. translates uh Matthew 4:23 where it says

    Matthew 4:23

  319. he heals every kind of disease and every

  320. kind of sickness among the people. And

  321. then the ESV says that he healed every

  322. same verse Matthew 4:23 every disease

    Matthew 4:23

  323. and every affliction among the people.

  324. Every disease healing every disease

  325. healing every sickness. And that word

  326. healing means to heal. To restore to

  327. health. The devil has robbed them of

  328. their health, but Jesus came to restore

  329. health back to them. And so, Matthew

  330. uses two distinct words to communicate

  331. this. The word that's translated disease

  332. literally means chronic or serious

  333. illness.

  334. Oh, come on now.

  335. >> Chronic or serious illness. Heart

  336. disease has to bow to Jesus.

  337. >> Diabetes has to bow to Jesus.

  338. >> Respiratory, chronic respiratory

  339. diseases, tuberculosis

  340. have to bow to Jesus.

  341. >> DO YOU NOT GET THIS? CICKLE CELL anemia

  342. has to bow to Jesus. LEUKEMIA HAS TO BOW

  343. to Jesus. Every form of cancer HAS TO

  344. BOW TO JESUS. EVERY NEUROLOGICAL

  345. DISORDER HAS TO BOW TO JESUS. EVERY

  346. MENTAL DISORDER HAS TO BOW to Jesus.

  347. Every sickness, EVERY DISEASE HAS TO BOW

  348. TO JESUS.

  349. >> I wish somebody would praise the Lord

  350. today.

  351. >> Sickness, the word sickness means

  352. weakness, infirmity, ailment. So look at

  353. this. There's nothing excluded. There's

  354. nothing too big. There is nothing too

  355. small. He heals cancer. He heals the

  356. common cold.

  357. >> It's a lie that says there's no cure for

  358. the common cold. The co the cure is

  359. Jesus. The name above all the name we

  360. spoke about, sang about today is the

  361. cure of cancer is the cure of the common

  362. cold.

  363. Mark chapter 9 verse number one he said

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  364. to them assuredly I say to you there are

  365. some standing here who will not taste

  366. death till they see the kingdom of God

  367. present in power. Oh praise God. So he

  368. wasn't talking about something in the

  369. distant future. Now why is all this

  370. important? Well it's important because

  371. what Jesus did is exactly what we're

  372. supposed to do.

  373. Matthew doesn't present teaching,

  374. preaching, and healing in separate

  375. departments.

  376. They flowed together. It was in one

  377. sentence. It was one ministry. It was

  378. one person teaching, preaching, and

  379. healing. You can't remove healing from

  380. the gospel without distorting the

  381. picture that Matthew paints.

  382. When Jesus gave the kingdom

  383. announcement, it came with a

  384. demonstration

  385. of the power of the kingdom. The kingdom

  386. is not just spoken. It is seen. YOU CAN

  387. SEE WHEN THE KINGDOM COMES BECAUSE

  388. PEOPLE are healed, demons are cast out,

  389. sickness has to go, every infirmity has

  390. to bow when the kingdom is present.

  391. And so Paul said in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 2:4

  392. chapter 2 verse 4, "My speech and my

  393. preaching were not with persuasive words

  394. of human wisdom, but in demonstration of

  395. the spirit and of power, that your faith

  396. should not be in the wisdom of men, but

  397. in the power of God."

  398. >> This is important because healing is a

  399. mark of the kingdom.

  400. In the Old Testament, the the Lord

  401. prophesied in Isaiah 35:E5

  402. that the eyes of the blind shall be

  403. open, the ears of the deaf. This is what

  404. Messiah was going to do. This is the

  405. power, the anointing that was going to

  406. flow through Messiah. He said, "Then the

  407. lame will leap like a deer. The tongue

  408. of the dumb sing. The water shall burst

  409. forth in the wilderness and streams in

  410. the desert." And then flip over to

  411. Isaiah 61:1.

    Isaiah 61:1

  412. The spirit of the Lord God is upon me.

  413. Who? He's on Jesus Messiah. The spirit

  414. of the Lord God is upon me because the

  415. Lord has anointed me to preach good

  416. tidings to the poor. He has sent me to

  417. heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim

  418. liberty to the captives, the opening of

  419. the prison to those who are bound, to

  420. proclaim the acceptable year of the

  421. Lord, the day of vengeance of our God,

  422. to comfort all who mourn, to console

  423. those who mourn in Zion, TO GIVE THEM

  424. THE beauty for ashes, THE JOY, THE OIL

  425. OF JOY for mourning, the garment of

  426. praise for the spirit of heaviness, that

  427. they may be called trees of

  428. righteousness, the planting of the Lord

  429. that he may be glorified.

  430. >> So Jesus healing ministry was evidence

  431. that the kingdom

  432. has arrived. And when John the Baptist

  433. was imprisoned and he was going through

  434. that dark hour, he sent messengers to

  435. Jesus to ask him, "Are you the one that

  436. we that we're we've been watching for?

  437. Are you the coming one?" And how did

  438. Jesus answer him? He said, "Go tell John

  439. what you see." The blind are able to see

  440. again. The lame are walking. The lepers

  441. are being cleansed. Demons are being

  442. cast out. The dead are being raised. So

  443. healing isn't a sideh show.

  444. HEALING IS NOT SOMETHING TO BECOME such

  445. a spectacle that the healing grabs all

  446. the attention. The healing is a sign of

  447. the kingdom. AND THE KINGDOM IS the rule

  448. of the king. And the kingdom the king

  449. reigns over sickness. The king reigns

  450. over disease.

  451. >> So the church without the supernatural

  452. manifestation

  453. of the Holy Spirit with healing and with

  454. deliverance, if you don't have healing

  455. and deliverance, signs and wonders and

  456. miracles, all you have

  457. is a social club.

  458. Why is this important?

  459. This is important because of the

  460. compassion of Christ.

  461. The phrase every disease, every

  462. sickness, it leaves no condition outside

  463. of God's compassionate reach.

  464. God doesn't sort people like we do

  465. >> into categories.

  466. He doesn't say, "Oh, yes, you deserve.

  467. You are deserving.

  468. Oh, you you you right in every way. You

  469. yes, you can receive your healing. Oh,

  470. now now I'm sorry, but you just not good

  471. enough. You going to have to try a

  472. little bit harder as if your effort has

  473. anything to do with it."

  474. >> We categorize people. We marginalize

  475. them. We put them as deserving or as

  476. undeserving. But Jesus does not sort

  477. people into categories.

  478. He heals all. All white, black, red,

  479. yellow. He heals all. Doesn't matter

  480. your language. It doesn't matter if

  481. you're fat or if you're skinny. It

  482. doesn't matter where you come from. It

  483. doesn't matter who your mama is or what

  484. your daddy had. It does not matter.

  485. Jesus heals all. And and that is

  486. consistent with the portrait that

  487. Matthew is drawing in Matthew chap 1.

  488. Matthew chapter 1 verse 23 where he said

    Matthew 1:23

  489. a virgin shall be with child and bear a

  490. son and they shall call his name

  491. Emmanuel which is translated God with

  492. us.

  493. So there's no them. Us and them. Uh-uh.

  494. It's God with us. all of us. And so

  495. Jesus,

  496. you got to get this. Jesus entered human

  497. brokenness. He didn't avoid it. We avoid

  498. brokenness.

  499. >> We get around folk that they got

  500. something going on and and we're a

  501. little intimidated.

  502. >> I know I this I'm talking about other

  503. people. I'm not talking about you.

  504. But in Matthew chapter 8 verse 17,

    Matthew 8:17

  505. that it might be fulfilled which was

  506. spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,

  507. "He himself took our infirmities and

  508. bore our sicknesses."

  509. This is important

  510. because it gives the pattern of

  511. ministry.

  512. In Matthew chapter 9

    Matthew 9:35

  513. verse 35 through the end of the chapter

  514. it says then he went about all the

  515. cities and villages. This is the bookend

  516. verse teaching in their synagogues

  517. preaching the gospel of the kingdom and

  518. healing every sickness and every disease

  519. among the people. And when he saw the

  520. multitudes,

  521. he was moved with compassion for them

  522. because they were weary and scattered

  523. like sheep having no shepherd. And he

  524. said to his disciples, "The harvest

  525. truly is plentiful, but the laborers are

  526. few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the

  527. harvest that he would send out laborers

  528. into his harvest." You get that? His

  529. church, his harvest.

  530. And so the pattern that Jesus models is

  531. real simple. teaching,

  532. preaching the gospel of the kingdom and

  533. healing

  534. every sickness and every disease. And

  535. and that becomes the mission that Jesus

  536. literally delegates to his disciples in

  537. Matthew 10 verse one. He called his 12

  538. to him and he gave them power

  539. over unclean spirits and to cast out all

  540. kinds of diseases.

  541. The same power that he operated in he

  542. imparted to his 12. And then in Matthew

  543. 10 7 and 8 he said as you go preach. All

  544. right. Two important words in that. You

  545. say, "You

  546. >> go."

  547. >> Look at the person next to you.

  548. >> Look him in the eye and say, "You

  549. >> go."

  550. >> YOU NEED TO GO.

  551. >> WHY ARE YOU WAITING?

  552. >> WHY ARE YOU INTIMIDATED? Why do you go

  553. to work and ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DEVIL

  554. SHUTS YOUR MOUTH UP? Come on.

  555. >> WHY YOU GOT IN THAT GET OUT IN THE

  556. COMMUNITY AND YOU'RE MEETING NEIGHBORS

  557. AND YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO TALK ABOUT

  558. JESUS?

  559. >> You can talk about the Cowboys

  560. up up not being hat. You can talk about

  561. the Chiefs.

  562. You can talk about sports. You can talk

  563. about Clemson. You can talk about

  564. Carolina. You can talk about anything

  565. you want to except Jesus because people

  566. get tonguetied when it comes to Jesus.

  567. AND IT'S TIME TO CAST THAT DUMB SPIRIT

  568. OUT AND FOR YOU TO BEGIN TO TALK ABOUT

  569. the goodness AND THE GLORY AND THE POWER

  570. OF THE LORD THAT SAVED YOU, THAT HEALED

  571. YOU, THAT DELIVERED YOU, THAT SET YOU

  572. FREE, THAT LIFTED YOU UP OUT OF THE

  573. MIRE, OUT OF THE CLAY, THAT SET YOUR

  574. FEET UPON A ROCK, THAT GAVE YOU A REASON

  575. TO LIVE, A REASON TO HOPE, THAT GAVE YOU

  576. A CALLING, THAT GAVE YOU A MINISTRY,

  577. Somebody say, "Praise the Lord."

  578. >> Hallelujah.

  579. >> I want to leave you with one last

  580. scripture. It's 1 Corinthians chapter

  581. 4:20.

  582. For the kingdom of God is not in word,

  583. but in power.

  584. >> So here it is.

  585. The first step

  586. is knowing Jesus.

  587. You got to know Jesus.

  588. >> You can't avoid Jesus. He He's been

  589. chasing you all your life.

  590. You You've been running from him. You've

  591. been making excuses. You've tried to

  592. come to church and play religion. You

  593. You've tried to pacify your conscience.

  594. But Jesus don't want a part of you. He

  595. doesn't want a category of you, a

  596. department of you. He wants all of you.

  597. He wants everything about you. He wants

  598. your home. He wants your marriage. He

  599. wants your children. He wants everything

  600. about you. And then when you give it all

  601. to him, he increases what he what comes

  602. back to you. It's pressed down. It's

  603. good measure. It's shaken together. It's

  604. running over. God is a God of abundance.

  605. He God's not a popper. He if you give it

  606. to him, he will multiply what you have.

  607. >> So,

  608. can I challenge you? I I I challenged

  609. the folks at Monk's Corner last week

  610. with this. And I feel like Holy Spirit

  611. wants to challenge you with this. It's

  612. time for you to cross the chicken line.

  613. >> You know how how little boys will draw a

  614. line and say, "I double dog dare you

  615. cross it." You know, they're going to

  616. cross the chicken line.

  617. What's holding you back?

  618. Make a stand. Accept Jesus. Let him come

  619. in your life. Let him take your mess.

  620. Let him take your brokenness.

  621. Let him

  622. put you back together.
