  1. Last week, I talked about for Christ and the gospel.

  2. This week, I'm going to talk about for king and kingdom.

  3. Two messages similar in one sense of just laying foundations.

  4. What are we motivated in?

  5. What is our aim, our focus?

  6. I want to talk to you about the king and the kingdom this morning.

  7. I'm starting in Colossians 4, verse 11.

    Colossians 4:11

  8. At the end of Colossians there, you see Paul talking about some different people.

  9. He says,

  10. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God,

  11. and they have been a comfort to me.

  12. These are fellow workers for the kingdom of God.

  13. And that's who we are.

  14. Fellow workers for the kingdom of God.

  15. That we are living for the kingdom of God.

  16. What is the kingdom of God?

  17. Kingdom definitions.

  18. Jack Taylor says,

  19. God's rule over everyone and everything for all time and eternity.

  20. Wolfgang Simpson says,

  21. The realm of God's uncontested rule.

  22. So if we're starting a church,

  23. and we're seeking to seek and save those which are lost,

  24. we're basically looking for this particular area we live in.

  25. We're looking for people who are not underneath,

  26. who are not submitting themselves to the rule of the king,

  27. and saying,

  28. Hey, where are the people who are not under the realm of God's uncontested rule?

  29. Where are those people who have not submitted their lives to Jesus?

  30. And we want to see them through the gospel of the kingdom,

  31. come out from underneath the kingdom of darkness,

  32. and into and under the kingdom of light.

  33. Okay?

  34. We want to see God's rule extend to those who are bucking his rule.

  35. We're saying,

  36. Jesus is not my king.

  37. You know,

  38. just like,

  39. it's kind of similar,

  40. different seasons of time.

  41. Right now,

  42. you might have Republicans saying,

  43. Biden's not my president.

  44. Or last time with Trump,

  45. you have people saying,

  46. not my,

  47. hashtag,

  48. not my president.

  49. All right?

  50. Which is kind of a dopey thing,

  51. because he is.

  52. Right?

  53. But it's the same thing with God.

  54. Like,

  55. it's like,

  56. well,

  57. he's not my God.

  58. Well,

  59. he actually is.

  60. You just don't recognize it.

  61. You don't submit to it.

  62. You don't live like it.

  63. So there's a lot of people out there who might say,

  64. hashtag,

  65. not my king.

  66. Okay?

  67. Jesus isn't my king.

  68. I'm not submitting to his rule.

  69. I'm living underneath my own rule.

  70. And,

  71. um,

  72. essentially the kingdom of God is what the king wants,

  73. the way he wants it.

  74. And so whenever you care about what the king wants,

  75. and you care about the way the king wants it,

  76. because you can't care about what the king wants

  77. and not care about the way he wants it,

  78. because the way he wants it is what the king wants.

  79. Follow me on that,

  80. Sam?

  81. Okay.

  82. Sam's awake.

  83. So if you care about the kingdom of God,

  84. you care about what he wants,

  85. and you care about it being done on earth as it is in heaven.

  86. Right?

  87. That's what you see in Matthew 6.

  88. It's essentially the same way of saying that.

  89. Say,

  90. I want to see what the king wants in heaven,

  91. because what's going on in heaven is what the king wants.

  92. When I'm saying,

  93. I want it done on earth,

  94. I'm saying,

  95. I want this vision of what I see in heaven,

  96. God ruling and reigning,

  97. I want to see that come down to earth,

  98. where he is exercising that rule,

  99. that reign over every single person,

  100. every single thing,

  101. all creation.

  102. And so that's why we pray,

  103. let your kingdom come,

  104. right,

  105. on earth as it is in heaven.

  106. Okay?

  107. Just as it is in heaven perfectly,

  108. we want that to be here on earth.

  109. And we,

  110. as a church,

  111. are,

  112. you know,

  113. it's all kind of ethereal,

  114. and kind of out there,

  115. until there's an actual church that says,

  116. hey,

  117. we want to be the embassy of that kingdom,

  118. so to speak.

  119. You can basically look at churches as like these,

  120. these embassies of the kingdom.

  121. These are the pockets of God's rule,

  122. where the way it is in heaven is how it is on earth.

  123. People come into the church,

  124. they should see a picture of heaven.

  125. They should see,

  126. oh,

  127. this is what the king wants.

  128. This is the way that life underneath the king's rule

  129. is going to look like in the future,

  130. when he's ruling over it all.

  131. Here's a little pocket of it,

  132. in this embassy of the church.

  133. Much like if you go to Iraq,

  134. where I think we have our largest embassy,

  135. America's largest embassy,

  136. at least we used to,

  137. this massive,

  138. almost like mini city there,

  139. all the laws of America are true

  140. in that little piece of land in Iraq,

  141. even though it's in another country.

  142. How things are done in America

  143. is done right there in Iraq.

  144. By putting that embassy there,

  145. it's like America's will is being done

  146. in Iraq as it is in America.

  147. Do you hear me on that?

  148. And so in the same way,

  149. we're saying the church is like an embassy

  150. of the king in the kingdom,

  151. where everything that,

  152. the way things are supposed to be done,

  153. the way they are done in heaven

  154. is done just like that

  155. in this little picture of heaven in the church.

  156. And our job is to be his ambassadors,

  157. right,

  158. of that kingdom in that embassy

  159. and say,

  160. we want to bring other people.

  161. We are going out to preach about the benefits

  162. of the kingdom that we are under,

  163. the rule that we're under.

  164. We're saying,

  165. hey,

  166. come underneath this rule.

  167. There's actually,

  168. I want to give you some good news

  169. of the kingdom.

  170. As an ambassador of Christ,

  171. I want to give you good news

  172. about the kingdom that I represent

  173. and that I live under.

  174. I want to invite you out of the kingdom of darkness

  175. that you're living under,

  176. whose ruler is the kingdom of the air,

  177. the ruler of the kingdom of the air.

  178. I want to invite you to come out

  179. from underneath his rule,

  180. which is bondage and slavery.

  181. It's stealing,

  182. killing,

  183. and destroying.

  184. And I want to invite you

  185. into this invitation

  186. that my king has made to you

  187. that he could give you citizenship

  188. in heaven as well.

  189. Does that make sense?

  190. Do you see the,

  191. there's that language littered all over.

  192. I just quoted a bunch of scriptures.

  193. Your citizenship is in heaven.

  194. You're not of this world,

  195. right?

  196. We're just sojourners,

  197. alien earthlings,

  198. so to speak,

  199. right?

  200. Aliens and strangers on this earth.

  201. And yet,

  202. we are not just from some mysterious place,

  203. we're from a specific place.

  204. We are citizens in a specific kingdom

  205. with a specific king,

  206. bringing a specific rule

  207. that is to be extended.

  208. It is to be advanced.

  209. It is to be moving forward.

  210. And it comes to the good news

  211. or the gospel of the kingdom.

  212. Does that make sense?

  213. So the kingdom

  214. or the king's domain,

  215. the domain of the king,

  216. the domain of Christ's uncontested rule

  217. is what we should be about.

  218. And you've heard me talk about this before.

  219. I'm going to get into it a little bit deeper.

  220. Every kingdom has three essentials.

  221. Okay?

  222. The ruler,

  223. the ruled,

  224. and the rules.

  225. Okay?

  226. If any one of those three is missing,

  227. it's not the kingdom.

  228. Does that make sense?

  229. If there's no ruler,

  230. nope,

  231. that's not a kingdom.

  232. All right?

  233. Or if the ruler is usurped

  234. and there's some other ruler,

  235. that's not Christ's kingdom.

  236. Christ's kingdom

  237. has to be ruled

  238. by Christ.

  239. If you're on the throne,

  240. that ain't his kingdom.

  241. If you're doing what you want,

  242. what you want,

  243. when you want,

  244. how you want,

  245. the way you want,

  246. sorry,

  247. it's not the kingdom.

  248. You can't say,

  249. oh yeah,

  250. I'm about the kingdom

  251. and do what you want,

  252. when you want,

  253. how you want,

  254. the way you want.

  255. No.

  256. You do what the king wants.

  257. You're submitted to the king.

  258. If he's not the ruler

  259. and you're not submitted to him

  260. as the ruler,

  261. whenever you're talking about the kingdom

  262. and that isn't the case,

  263. that's not the kingdom of God.

  264. Okay?

  265. Starts with the ruler.

  266. This one's for Adam.

  267. The preeminent potentate.

  268. Okay?

  269. Adam likes that.

  270. I know he does.

  271. Okay?

  272. The one whose rule is above all,

  273. all-powerful,

  274. all-mighty,

  275. ruler,

  276. preeminent,

  277. potentate of everything,

  278. everywhere,

  279. for all time and eternity.

  280. Okay?

  281. That's Jesus.

  282. And if you try to,

  283. like,

  284. kind of dial down his rule

  285. just a little bit

  286. and say,

  287. well,

  288. yeah,

  289. he was a prophet.

  290. He's a good guy.

  291. Someone I want to emulate.

  292. You know?

  293. No.

  294. There's an unbeliever

  295. I've chatted with many times

  296. and he says he's a Christian,

  297. but whenever he talks about Jesus,

  298. he does not talk about him

  299. as the preeminent potentate,

  300. the ruler over all creation,

  301. the king of kings

  302. and the lord of lords.

  303. He talks about him

  304. just like he's a cool dude.

  305. You know?

  306. Like,

  307. I'm just like,

  308. this is not some cool

  309. spiritual doji here.

  310. Like,

  311. this is the ruler

  312. of heaven and earth.

  313. This is Jesus,

  314. King Jesus.

  315. The way you talk about him

  316. makes me think

  317. the kingdom of God

  318. has not come to you.

  319. You may be close,

  320. but you are not yet

  321. in this kingdom

  322. you speak

  323. so familiar with.

  324. Okay?

  325. 1 Timothy 6,

  326. 14 to 16

  327. says,

  328. Our Lord Jesus Christ,

  329. verse 15,

  330. He who is the blessed

  331. and only sovereign,

  332. the king of kings

  333. and the lord of lords,

  334. who alone has immortality,

  335. who dwells in unapproachable light,

  336. whom no one has ever seen

  337. or can see,

  338. to him be honor

  339. and eternal dominion.

  340. Okay?

  341. Forever rule,

  342. that means.

  343. He's the ruler.

  344. Revelation 19, 16,

  345. on his robe,

  346. speaking of Jesus,

  347. and on his thigh,

  348. he has a name written.

  349. King of kings

  350. and lord of lords.

  351. All right?

  352. King of kings

  353. and lord of lords.

  354. So, essentially,

  355. you could even say

  356. he's more than a king.

  357. What is someone

  358. who's a king of kings?

  359. The emperor, right?

  360. I mean,

  361. he's bigger than a king.

  362. He is the king of kings.

  363. Even the kings of the earth

  364. are underneath the rule

  365. of the emperor.

  366. King Jesus,

  367. the king of kings.

  368. Right?

  369. Revelation 1, verse 5,

    Revelation 1:5

  370. Jesus Christ,

  371. the faithful witness,

  372. the firstborn of the dead,

  373. and the ruler

  374. of the kings

  375. on the earth.

  376. Ephesians 1, 19-23,

  377. What is the immeasurable

  378. greatness of his power

  379. toward us who believe,

  380. according to the working

  381. of his great might,

  382. that he worked in Christ

  383. when he raised him

  384. from the dead

  385. and seated him

  386. at his right hand

  387. in the heavenly places,

  388. far above

  389. all rule

  390. and authority

  391. and power

  392. and dominion,

  393. and above every name

  394. that is named.

  395. He's not just

  396. a little bit above.

  397. It's not just

  398. there's the kings

  399. and then there's Jesus.

  400. He's far above

  401. all rule and authority.

  402. There is no comparison.

  403. You don't even,

  404. it's even hard

  405. to even put them

  406. in the same sentence.

  407. Okay?

  408. That when you talk

  409. about rules of kings

  410. and then the rule

  411. of the king,

  412. it's so incomparable,

  413. it's hard to even say

  414. them in the same sentence.

  415. Right?

  416. Because he's far above

  417. all rule

  418. and authority

  419. and power

  420. and dominion

  421. and above every name

  422. that is named,

  423. not only in this age,

  424. but also

  425. in the one to come.

  426. So not just now,

  427. but forever.

  428. The next age,

  429. every age that is to come.

  430. And he put all things

  431. under his feet

  432. and gave him as head

  433. over all things

  434. to the church,

  435. which is his body,

  436. the fullness of him

  437. who fills all

  438. in all.

  439. Put all things

  440. under his feet.

  441. All things.

  442. Not some,

  443. not most,

  444. all things.

  445. He is the ruler.

  446. Okay?

  447. If you're going

  448. to talk kingdom,

  449. you must talk

  450. Jesus is the ruler,

  451. the king.

  452. He rules over all.

  453. We don't negotiate

  454. with him.

  455. We don't try to say,

  456. well,

  457. I kind of,

  458. you know,

  459. yeah,

  460. I like a couple things

  461. about Jesus,

  462. but like,

  463. I kind of want my way

  464. in this thing.

  465. I don't know.

  466. He's the ruler.

  467. He's above all rule.

  468. You don't,

  469. uncontested.

  470. It's not like the devil

  471. and Jesus are in this

  472. like neck and neck race

  473. and it's kind of close

  474. and it looks like

  475. the devil won that one.

  476. Never,

  477. ever,

  478. ever,

  479. albeit to think that,

  480. to utter that.

  481. Never.

  482. Never.

  483. There is no,

  484. he is uncontested

  485. in his rule.

  486. That's why I love

  487. Wolfgang's definition

  488. of the kingdom.

  489. The realm of his

  490. uncontested rule.

  491. There is no competition.

  492. There is no contest.

  493. No one challenges

  494. his rule.

  495. It's not even possible.

  496. Okay?

  497. He is the ruler.

  498. When you think kingdom,

  499. you think that.

  500. Okay?

  501. The second thing

  502. in a kingdom,

  503. the ruled.

  504. Psalm 103, 19,

  505. the Lord has established

  506. his throne in the heavens

  507. and his kingdom

  508. rules over all.

  509. Okay?

  510. All.

  511. Psalm 22, 28,

  512. for kingship belongs

  513. to the Lord

  514. and he rules

  515. over the nations.

  516. You might say,

  517. well,

  518. even the nations

  519. that are totally godless,

  520. you bet,

  521. every nation

  522. he rules over.

  523. Is there anything

  524. he doesn't rule over?

  525. No.

  526. I think it was

  527. A.W. Pink who said

  528. if there was one

  529. rogue molecule

  530. in the entire universe,

  531. he would cease

  532. to be God.

  533. Not one rogue molecule.

  534. He is king over all.

  535. He is ruler over all.

  536. There's not one molecule

  537. that is not under

  538. the sovereign rule

  539. of King Jesus.

  540. Do you hear me on that?

  541. Okay?

  542. And so we are

  543. under his rule.

  544. Revelation 1, 5,

  545. the ruler of the kings

  546. on earth.

  547. All right?

  548. So there's the ruler

  549. and then there's the ruled.

  550. Those who are a part

  551. of his kingdom

  552. are ruled by King Jesus.

  553. You can't be in his kingdom

  554. and not be ruled.

  555. You can't say,

  556. I don't believe

  557. he's the ruler

  558. and I'm not underneath

  559. this rule.

  560. You know,

  561. I think I can do

  562. what I want to do.

  563. It's like,

  564. that has to hit

  565. every area.

  566. Okay?

  567. It has to,

  568. the rule of God

  569. hits your checkbook,

  570. your bank account,

  571. your sex life.

  572. Okay?

  573. It hits your marriage,

  574. your parenting,

  575. your single life.

  576. Right?

  577. It hits your work life.

  578. It's how you use your time.

  579. Are you ruled

  580. or are you not?

  581. Who's ruling?

  582. Is he the ruler?

  583. If he's the ruler,

  584. then you're the ruled.

  585. That means nothing

  586. is your own anymore.

  587. Your time isn't your own.

  588. Your money isn't your own.

  589. Everything is his.

  590. Right?

  591. By nature,

  592. in a kingdom,

  593. nobody owns anything

  594. but the king.

  595. Did you know that?

  596. In a real kingdom.

  597. We don't know that

  598. because we live in a republic

  599. where we care very much

  600. about our property rights.

  601. Right?

  602. In a kingdom,

  603. there's only stewards.

  604. There is no owners

  605. other than the king.

  606. He gives property

  607. and things

  608. for you to use,

  609. but you do not own them

  610. in a kingdom.

  611. Okay?

  612. For God to be a king

  613. and to be the ruler,

  614. nothing is yours anymore.

  615. It's all his.

  616. By nature of him being king

  617. and you being the ruled.

  618. All right?

  619. And then three,

  620. you have the rules.

  621. If you remove any of these,

  622. you don't have a kingdom.

  623. Okay?

  624. You say,

  625. yeah,

  626. God's the ruler

  627. and I'm the ruled,

  628. but I play by my own rules.

  629. No.

  630. Ipso facto,

  631. not the truth.

  632. Cannot happen.

  633. There's no,

  634. it doesn't work that way.

  635. If he is ruling,

  636. then he sets the rules.

  637. You cannot make your own rules.

  638. You might say,

  639. well,

  640. I want to do,

  641. handle my money this way.

  642. No.

  643. You have to go by the rules of God.

  644. Well,

  645. I want to use my time this way.

  646. No.

  647. God gets to decide that.

  648. I want to do church this way.

  649. No.

  650. He's the head of the church.

  651. He's the ruler.

  652. The rules must be God's.

  653. Leviticus 18.4,

  654. you shall follow my rules

  655. and keep my statutes

  656. and walk in them.

  657. I am the Lord,

  658. your God.

  659. Ecclesiastes 8.4

  660. and the CEV.

  661. The king's word is law.

  662. Okay?

  663. In a kingdom,

  664. whatever the king says is law.

  665. That's why when Daniel

  666. got thrown into the lion's den,

  667. it was just like,

  668. he made this declaration

  669. and it became law

  670. as soon as he said it.

  671. And so he had to

  672. throw him in the lion's den.

  673. And remember when he apologized

  674. to Daniel

  675. and he's just like,

  676. oh,

  677. I'm so sorry.

  678. I didn't,

  679. you know,

  680. this wasn't really,

  681. I didn't think this was going

  682. to be directed towards you.

  683. But that's the nature

  684. of the king's word.

  685. The king's word is law.

  686. Okay?

  687. Psalm 119 verse 20,

    Psalms 119:20

  688. my soul is consumed

  689. with longing for your rules

  690. at all time.

  691. Who says that?

  692. People who are ruled

  693. by King Jesus

  694. and who know

  695. that he is a good ruler.

  696. Right?

  697. They say things like,

  698. my soul is consumed

  699. with longing for your rules

  700. at all times.

  701. Do you think that way?

  702. What a weird statement to say.

  703. Lord,

  704. I'm consumed

  705. with longing

  706. for your rules.

  707. That's so un-American.

  708. It's not even funny.

  709. Right?

  710. It's like the antithesis

  711. of what it means

  712. to be an American.

  713. To long for rules.

  714. Americans long

  715. to break rules.

  716. Kingdom citizens

  717. of Christ's kingdom

  718. say,

  719. I am consumed

  720. with longing

  721. for your rules.

  722. Do you care

  723. about what his rules are?

  724. Do you care

  725. to obey them?

  726. Do you care

  727. to know them?

  728. Psalm 119.43

  729. Take not the word

  730. of truth

  731. utterly out of my mouth

  732. for my hope

  733. is in your rules.

  734. My hope

  735. is in your rules.

  736. Who says that?

  737. Someone who believes

  738. that he's a good king.

  739. Someone who is content

  740. to be under the rule

  741. of King Jesus

  742. and say,

  743. hey,

  744. my hope

  745. is in your rules

  746. because I know

  747. you're a good ruler.

  748. Psalm 119.52

  749. When I think

  750. of your rules

  751. from of old,

  752. I take comfort,

  753. O Lord.

  754. You take comfort

  755. in the rules of God.

  756. Is that comforting

  757. to know that God

  758. has rules,

  759. that God has ways,

  760. that God has a will?

  761. Does that give you comfort?

  762. It should.

  763. It would not be comforting

  764. if he wasn't

  765. in control of everything.

  766. If he wasn't sovereign,

  767. that wouldn't be comforting.

  768. And if he was sovereign

  769. but not good,

  770. that wouldn't be comforting either.

  771. I'd say,

  772. well,

  773. okay,

  774. I know he's in charge

  775. of everything

  776. but if he's not good,

  777. how in the world

  778. does that give me comfort?

  779. It has to be both.

  780. You will never be comforted

  781. by his rules

  782. if you do not believe

  783. he's both sovereign

  784. and good.

  785. And I got good news

  786. of the kingdom for you.

  787. He is.

  788. He is good

  789. and he is sovereign.

  790. He's not just good

  791. like that manager

  792. who was always nice to you

  793. but never had the authority

  794. to do any of the things

  795. he wanted to do.

  796. I'd love to give you a raise

  797. but I just don't really

  798. have the authority,

  799. you know?

  800. God is not just good.

  801. He's not just the kind of manager

  802. you love to have.

  803. He also has the authority

  804. to execute his will.

  805. We've all had managers

  806. who had good intentions

  807. but no authority.

  808. Right?

  809. We've even had good

  810. government officials.

  811. Man, I wish I could do this

  812. but I don't have the authority.

  813. Right?

  814. Maybe you've experienced

  815. that at the DMV.

  816. Yeah, I know this doesn't

  817. make much sense

  818. but I don't have the authority

  819. to change it.

  820. You just have to deal with it.

  821. Right?

  822. God has the authority

  823. to execute his good purpose

  824. and will

  825. and he does as he pleases

  826. and what he pleases

  827. is best for you

  828. and me.

  829. That's why we can say

  830. I take comfort

  831. in his rules.

  832. Psalm 119.62

  833. At midnight I rise

  834. to praise you

  835. because of your righteous rules.

  836. Have you ever praised God

  837. for his rules?

  838. Have you ever praised God

  839. for the things

  840. that he has set up

  841. for your good

  842. and his glory?

  843. That's why they're there.

  844. His rules are there

  845. for your good

  846. and his glory.

  847. Every kingdom must have

  848. these three things.

  849. You can't say you're about

  850. advancing his kingdom

  851. seeing his kingdom come

  852. on earth as it is in heaven.

  853. If you yourself

  854. are not submitted

  855. to the king

  856. you're not ruled by him

  857. you don't believe

  858. that he is the ruler

  859. and you don't adhere

  860. to his rules.

  861. You are not submitted

  862. to the king

  863. if you're not adhering

  864. to his rules.

  865. And if you're bucking that

  866. and walking in darkness

  867. and trying to avoid that

  868. and trying to get around it

  869. that's not the kingdom of God.

  870. The kingdom of God

  871. must be obedience

  872. to the rules of God.

  873. And you only do that

  874. when you know

  875. that he's good.

  876. Alright,

  877. what the kingdom is

  878. and what it isn't.

  879. Romans 14, 17 says

  880. the kingdom of God

  881. is not a matter

  882. of eating and drinking

  883. but of righteousness

  884. and peace

  885. and joy in the Holy Spirit.

  886. In the Bible

  887. they got really hung up

  888. on a lot of things

  889. when it came to eating

  890. and drinking.

  891. What you can eat

  892. what you can eat.

  893. Right?

  894. He says

  895. what this is really about

  896. is righteousness,

  897. peace,

  898. and joy in the Holy Spirit.

  899. When you experience

  900. righteousness

  901. and you experience

  902. peace

  903. and when you experience

  904. joy in the Holy Spirit

  905. that's the kingdom of God

  906. that you're experiencing.

  907. You ever experience that

  908. when you come into a home

  909. where there's righteousness there?

  910. Things are being done

  911. right according to God.

  912. There's peace

  913. in that home.

  914. There is joy

  915. that comes from the Holy Spirit

  916. in that home.

  917. What is that?

  918. It's an embassy of the king

  919. and the kingdom.

  920. His rule is present there

  921. where there's righteousness,

  922. peace,

  923. and joy in the Holy Spirit.

  924. Now,

  925. have you seen in a family

  926. or a home

  927. or a business

  928. or a geographical area

  929. or in a nation

  930. where there is not righteousness

  931. and there is not peace

  932. and there is not

  933. joy in the Holy Spirit?

  934. What is that evidence of?

  935. That the kingdom of God

  936. is not there.

  937. Not in,

  938. at least not in the fullest sense.

  939. God is sovereignly ruling

  940. but we're not at present

  941. seeing that rule

  942. manifesting itself.

  943. in that particular time.

  944. Okay?

  945. Kingdom of God

  946. is righteousness,

  947. peace,

  948. and joy in the Holy Spirit.

  949. You should look for that

  950. to identify it

  951. and when it's not there,

  952. you as an ambassador of Christ

  953. can and should

  954. bring that

  955. wherever you go.

  956. You start working

  957. on a new job,

  958. what should you bring there?

  959. The kingdom of God.

  960. Well,

  961. what does that mean?

  962. Don't just say

  963. I'm bringing the kingdom of God.

  964. What does that specifically mean?

  965. It means righteousness.

  966. It means peace.

  967. It means joy

  968. and the Holy Spirit.

  969. Is that evident in your life?

  970. Does it go where you go?

  971. If it doesn't,

  972. perhaps one of the three aspects

  973. of the kingdom

  974. is missing.

  975. What the kingdom is

  976. and what it isn't.

  977. 1 Corinthians 4.20

  978. The kingdom of God

  979. is not a matter of talk

  980. but of power.

  981. Okay?

  982. And say,

  983. okay,

  984. we're a church now.

  985. We're going to,

  986. here I am,

  987. talking.

  988. I'm talking about the kingdom.

  989. But make no mistake,

  990. that's not what this is

  991. ultimately a matter of.

  992. It's a matter of power.

  993. If my words are just words,

  994. it's not the kingdom.

  995. Kingdom is not just

  996. a matter of talk.

  997. It's a matter of power.

  998. Okay?

  999. And when the disciples

  1000. were sent out

  1001. as apostles of Jesus,

  1002. he said,

  1003. wait in Luke 24.49

  1004. until you're clothed

1005. with power from on high.

1006. And then in Acts 1.8,

  1007. he said,

1008. when the Spirit comes upon you,

1009. you will be my witnesses.

1010. And then in Acts 4.31,

1011. they were filled with the Spirit

1012. and they spoke the word

  1013. of God boldly.

  1014. What do you see

1015. in all three of those instances?

  1016. Power.

  1017. Not just talk,

  1018. power.

  1019. Those same ones

  1020. who were yelling,

  1021. crucify him,

  1022. crucify him,

1023. are all of a sudden

  1024. among the 3,000

  1025. who are getting saved

1026. after the guy who preached

  1027. was the guy

1028. who denied him three times.

  1029. The same guy

1030. who denied him three times

  1031. is now saying

  1032. to the people

  1033. who yelled,

  1034. crucify him,

  1035. crucify him,

1036. you killed the author of life.

  1037. What is that?

  1038. Power.

  1039. That's power.

  1040. You see the difference?

  1041. We need power.

  1042. The kingdom is not

  1043. a matter of talk.

  1044. If you think

  1045. we're going to start a church

1046. and you're going to go evangelize

  1047. by just saying

  1048. the right words,

  1049. you are sorely mistaken.

1050. That's not how this works.

  1051. It's a matter of power.

  1052. Power.

  1053. You need power.

  1054. I need power.

1055. You're going to go evangelize?

  1056. You're going to be

  1057. a missional community

1058. and get on a mission?

  1059. You better have power.

  1060. You better have power.

  1061. You better have boldness

  1062. to be his witness.

  1063. You better not just

  1064. give them words.

  1065. They don't need words.

1066. They need the power of God

  1067. in your words.

  1068. They need words

1069. but not words without power.

  1070. Okay?

  1071. They need the gospel.

  1072. They need

  1073. the power

  1074. of the Holy Spirit.

1075. That should make us dependent.

  1076. Okay?

  1077. We have to be

  1078. emptied of our self-confidence

  1079. and say,

  1080. okay,

  1081. I think we're getting this.

  1082. We figured this out.

  1083. I mean,

1084. this week we have chairs.

  1085. We're doing it.

  1086. All right?

  1087. Like,

  1088. no self-confidence

  1089. in anything.

  1090. All right,

  1091. we're starting this

  1092. missional community.

  1093. We've done missional communities

  1094. before.

  1095. No big deal.

  1096. No confidence

  1097. in the flesh.

1098. Confidence in the Holy Spirit

  1099. saying,

  1100. God,

  1101. we need you.

  1102. We need you,

  1103. God.

  1104. We need you.

  1105. If you don't

  1106. give us your power,

  1107. those words are going

1108. to fall on deaf ears.

  1109. We're going to go

  1110. to the wrong people.

  1111. We're going to go

  1112. to the wrong places.

1113. We want to be precise,

  1114. God.

1115. We want to be powerful

  1116. in our presentation

  1117. of the gospel

  1118. and to the people

  1119. who are the ones

  1120. that God

  1121. is drawing.

  1122. God,

1123. send us to those people.

1124. No one come to the Father

  1125. unless you draw them.

  1126. God,

  1127. we need the power

  1128. of God

  1129. to actually see

  1130. and hear

1131. where we are to go,

1132. who we are to speak to.

  1133. You know,

  1134. when Philip's walking along,

1135. the Spirit says to him,

  1136. hey,

1137. go talk to that Ethiopian.

  1138. Go talk to him.

1139. Who said that to him?

  1140. The Spirit did.

  1141. Remember?

1142. Do you hear the Spirit

  1143. saying to you

1144. who you should go talk to?

1145. That's why you need power

1146. because when God's power comes,

  1147. you hear stuff.

1148. You hear the Spirit saying,

  1149. hey,

1150. go talk to that guy.

1151. And then you go up

  1152. and he's reading Isaiah

  1153. and says,

  1154. who is this about?

  1155. And you're just like,

  1156. okay.

1157. Talk about a divine appointment.

  1158. That's a divine appointment.

  1159. Okay,

1160. that doesn't happen to people

  1161. who aren't walking

1162. in the power of God

  1163. and aren't hearing

  1164. the Spirit of God.

  1165. We need that.

1166. We can be like Philip.

1167. Did Philip have a different version

  1168. of the Holy Spirit

  1169. than you have?

  1170. Absolutely not.

  1171. You young cats?

1172. Is there a junior Holy Spirit?

  1173. No.

  1174. There's no like version

1175. of the Holy Spirit for kids

1176. and then an adult version.

1177. It's the same Holy Spirit.

1178. It's the same Holy Spirit.

  1179. What the kingdom is

  1180. and what it isn't.

1181. It is a matter of power.

1182. How does the kingdom come?

  1183. Right?

  1184. Matthew 6,

  1185. when he tells them,

  1186. he says,

  1187. let your kingdom come

1188. on earth as it is in heaven.

  1189. So the concept

  1190. of the kingdom coming.

  1191. It's come.

  1192. It is coming.

  1193. And it will come.

  1194. Right?

1195. So it's like three tenses

  1196. just like salvation.

  1197. Then saved,

  1198. being saved,

  1199. will be saved,

  1200. has come,

  1201. is coming,

  1202. will come.

  1203. How does it come?

  1204. Matthew 6,

  1205. 9-10.

  1206. I just read that.

  1207. Your kingdom come,

  1208. your will be done

1209. on earth as it is in heaven.

  1210. Matthew 13,

  1211. 31-33.

  1212. He said,

  1213. the kingdom of heaven

1214. is like grain of a mustard seed

  1215. that a man took

1216. and sowed in its field.

1217. The smallest of all the seeds.

1218. But when it is grown,

1219. it is larger than all the garden plants

  1220. and becomes a tree

1221. so that the birds of the air

  1222. come and make nests

  1223. in its branches.

1224. Then he told them another parable.

  1225. And he says,

  1226. the kingdom of heaven

  1227. is like leaven

  1228. that a woman took

1229. and hid in three measures of flour

1230. till it was all leaven.

  1231. Right?

1232. So leaven working through dough,

  1233. a mustard seed,

1234. which is the tiniest one,

1235. growing into a big tree.

1236. That's what the kingdom of God

  1237. is like.

  1238. That's how it comes.

  1239. It starts small

  1240. and grows bigger.

  1241. Okay?

1242. So what do we take from that?

  1243. Don't despise the days

  1244. of small beginnings.

  1245. Don't be discouraged

1246. because we're starting off small.

  1247. Don't be discouraged

  1248. when you just see

1249. a little bit of fruit.

  1250. Okay?

  1251. You just keep

1252. sowing seeds of the kingdom.

  1253. You just keep preaching

  1254. the good news,

1255. the gospel of the kingdom

  1256. and believing

1257. that it's going to bear fruit.

  1258. Believing that,

  1259. oh yeah,

  1260. it starts small.

  1261. It's just a little leaven,

1262. but it's got to work

1263. through the batch of dough.

1264. You've got to believe that

  1265. when you see it

1266. in the people of our church.

  1267. Say,

  1268. wow,

  1269. they need to grow.

  1270. Yep.

1271. But I know the leaven is there.

1272. It just needs to work

1273. through the whole batch of dough.

1274. There's some parts of the dough

1275. that have not been reached

  1276. by the leaven.

  1277. Okay?

  1278. But I trust

1279. that the kingdom will come

1280. and I'm going to pray.

1281. I'm going to pray to my kids.

  1282. I'd say,

  1283. God,

1284. is the kingdom in my kids at all?

  1285. Maybe not yet.

  1286. All right?

1287. Do you pray that it comes?

  1288. And when it comes,

1289. it's going to take time

1290. to work through the whole batch.

  1291. Our whole life

  1292. is that sanctifying process

  1293. of us submitting

  1294. in every single area

1295. to the King of Kings.

  1296. Okay?

  1297. That's how it comes.

  1298. Matthew 12, 28

1299. speaks of how it comes.

  1300. Jesus says,

1301. if it is by the Spirit of God

1302. that I cast out demons,

1303. then the kingdom of God

  1304. has come upon you.

  1305. Okay?

1306. That's kind of an obvious one.

  1307. If the kingdom comes,

  1308. then demons go.

  1309. Right?

1310. If I cast out demons

1311. by the Spirit of God,

  1312. you know,

  1313. he's basically saying

1314. this is what it looks like,

1315. then the kingdom of God

  1316. has come upon you.

  1317. When the kingdom comes,

  1318. demons go.

  1319. Because demons

  1320. are from another kingdom.

  1321. Kingdom of darkness.

1322. When the kingdom of light comes,

1323. they don't have any authority.

  1324. You know,

  1325. Bellicose is going

  1326. into that new building,

  1327. right?

  1328. That,

  1329. what's it called?

  1330. Shriner.

  1331. The Shriner building.

  1332. And,

  1333. you know,

  1334. people are like,

  1335. there's some people

  1336. who get almost like

1337. a little afraid of that

  1338. because Shriners are

  1339. Masons.

  1340. Masons

1341. are not of the kingdom of God.

  1342. Okay?

  1343. Let's just say that.

1344. It's a lot of demonic stuff there.

  1345. All right?

  1346. And,

1347. people get a little freaked out

  1348. about that.

  1349. Like,

1350. what are we going to do?

1351. How are we going to pray that?

  1352. You know,

1353. are we going to use this room

1354. and how are we going to do that?

  1355. And I'm just like,

1356. when the kingdom of God comes,

  1357. demons leave.

  1358. And,

1359. if it's not theirs anymore,

  1360. it's now ours,

  1361. they gots to go.

  1362. Right?

  1363. Like,

1364. I'm giving their eviction notice.

  1365. Sorry,

  1366. you got to leave.

1367. This house is the Lord's

  1368. and everything in it.

  1369. You got to go.

1370. And you got to believe

1371. that when you say that,

  1372. they have to go.

1373. And it's the same way.

  1374. It's James 4,

    James 4:7

  1375. verse 7.

1376. When someone submits to God

1377. and then you resist the devil,

  1378. where does he go?

  1379. He's got to flee.

  1380. We do deliverance ministry.

  1381. I don't,

  1382. I never doubt

1383. that the devil is going to go

  1384. when I see someone

  1385. submitted to God.

  1386. Because,

1387. the word of the king,

  1388. which is law,

  1389. in James 4,

    James 4:7

  1390. verse 7,

1391. lays it out really plain for me.

  1392. Submit to God,

  1393. resist the devil,

  1394. and he will flee.

1395. What is he going to do?

1396. If that person is in repentance,

1397. if they submitted to God,

1398. and then we resist the devil,

1399. he's got only one place to go.

  1400. Far from there.

  1401. When he's resisted,

  1402. he has to flee.

1403. It's not that we have to,

  1404. like,

  1405. talk louder,

  1406. yell,

1407. and do some kind of weird,

  1408. you know,

  1409. spiritual,

  1410. you know,

  1411. gymnastics,

  1412. or,

  1413. you know,

  1414. ninja skills here.

  1415. We're just,

  1416. we just resist him.

  1417. He's got to go.

1418. Because the kingdom of God

  1419. is here.

  1420. Does that make sense?

1421. And the word of the king

  1422. is law.

  1423. And his word says,

  1424. submit to God,

  1425. resist him,

1426. and he has to flee.

  1427. Okay?

  1428. Luke 10,

  1429. 9,

  1430. heal the sick,

  1431. Jesus says.

1432. Heal the sick in it,

  1433. and say to them,

  1434. the kingdom of God

1435. has come near to you.

  1436. Okay?

  1437. When sickness is healed,

1438. that's the kingdom of God.

1439. The way it is in heaven

  1440. is done on earth.

  1441. Okay?

1442. Why doesn't everybody get healed?

  1443. Because his kingdom

1444. isn't yet here in fullness.

  1445. But it is here.

  1446. It came with Jesus.

1447. It's here in some larger doses

  1448. in some areas.

  1449. There's always the possibility

1450. of kingdom breaking in in power.

1451. One day it'll be here in total,

1452. and there'll be no more tears.

1453. There'll be no more sickness.

1454. There'll be no more pain.

  1455. But in the meantime,

1456. we pray that it comes now.

1457. We believe that it can come now.

1458. We believe that it does come now.

1459. That it is coming now.

  1460. We also live under

1461. the futility of this world

  1462. and the consequences

  1463. of our sin

1464. and its effect on the world.

1465. But that should never stop us

  1466. from praying

1467. that his kingdom will come

  1468. in healing.

1469. Even if we've seen it not happen.

  1470. You might say,

1471. well, I've done that many times.

  1472. I haven't seen it happen.

  1473. Is he king?

  1474. Is his kingdom here?

  1475. Is his kingdom coming?

1476. And does it not come

  1477. through his saints

1478. who lay hands on sick people?

  1479. Yes.

  1480. But we keep trying.

  1481. We keep doing it,

  1482. knowing that ultimately,

  1483. one day,

  1484. he's going to make

1485. all the wrong things right,

  1486. including sickness.

  1487. Number five,

1488. the priority of the kingdom.

  1489. Okay?

  1490. Priority of the kingdom.

  1491. Seeking isn't enough.

  1492. I say,

  1493. I'm seeking the kingdom.

  1494. Okay?

1495. You're not seeking the kingdom

1496. if you're not seeking it first.

  1497. Because the king

1498. who said to seek the kingdom

1499. said to seek it first.

1500. So to disobey the king

1501. and putting it at the wrong priority

1502. is not obeying the king,

1503. which means it's not the kingdom.

1504. Do you hear what I'm saying?

  1505. It's not okay

  1506. to seek the kingdom

  1507. second,

  1508. third,

  1509. fourth,

  1510. or last.

1511. It must be sought first.

  1512. Matthew 6.33 says,

  1513. seek first the kingdom

  1514. and his righteousness.

  1515. Seek first.

1516. If it's not sought first,

  1517. it's not his kingdom.

  1518. The kingdom of God

  1519. is the priority.

1520. It should be the priority

  1521. for every Christian.

  1522. How can I bring

  1523. all things,

1524. how can I do my part,

  1525. my participation,

  1526. my gifts,

1527. my one life that I'm given,

1528. how can I use it

  1529. to help bring things

  1530. underneath the rule

  1531. of King Jesus?

1532. How do I do that?

1533. Let's start with your bedroom.

  1534. Okay?

  1535. You hear that, Max?

1536. Let's start with our bedroom, right?

1537. Let's bring the kingdom of God

  1538. to our bedroom, right?

1539. Let's bring it to our home.

  1540. Let's bring it to

  1541. our individual lives.

  1542. We have families.

1543. Let's bring it to our marriage.

1544. Let's bring it to our kids.

  1545. Are there things

  1546. that we've been tolerating

1547. our marriages for many years

  1548. that need to be

  1549. brought into submission

  1550. to the King

  1551. that we're okay with,

  1552. that we seek

1553. is not really that big

  1554. of a priority?

1555. The kingdom must be sought first.

1556. We can't seek our own

  1557. desires

  1558. when there's things

  1559. that we are neglecting.

1560. We have to seek first

  1561. this kingdom

  1562. and say, God,

  1563. where do I need

  1564. to obey your rule?

  1565. Priority of the kingdom.

  1566. Cost determines value.

  1567. Value determines priority.

  1568. Okay?

1569. What does the kingdom cost?

  1570. Matthew 13.

  1571. Kingdom of heaven

  1572. is like a treasure

  1573. hidden in a field

  1574. which a man found

  1575. and covered up.

  1576. Then in his joy,

1577. he goes and sells all

  1578. that he has

  1579. and buys that field.

  1580. What does it cost?

  1581. It costs all.

  1582. You sure about that?

  1583. Let's look at 45.

1584. Again, the kingdom of heaven

  1585. is like a merchant

1586. in search of fine pearls.

  1587. When finding one,

1588. one pearl of great value

1589. went and sold all he had

  1590. and bought it.

  1591. What does it cost?

  1592. It costs all.

1593. The cost determines the value.

1594. The value determines the priority.

1595. If it costs everything you have,

1596. it should be a pretty high priority, right?

1597. But the good news is

1598. is he sold it in his joy.

  1599. Why?

1600. Because the pearl of great price,

  1601. the kingdom of God,

1602. is better than what you have.

  1603. And until your revelation,

1604. your perception of all that you have

1605. is less than your perception

  1606. of the kingdom,

1607. you'll never sell all you have

  1608. to get it.

  1609. Okay?

1610. If you think what you have

1611. is worth more than the kingdom,

1612. you're always going to be

  1613. holding on to it

1614. and not wanting to let go.

  1615. You think your time,

  1616. your stuff,

  1617. your relationships,

  1618. what you want,

1619. you think that's more valuable

1620. than what the king gives you

  1621. in his kingdom,

1622. then you hold on to it

1623. and you won't sell all to get it.

  1624. But if you believe

1625. that the kingdom is better,

  1626. that the king has

1627. your best interest in mind,

  1628. it's your joy

1629. to give something worth less

1630. for something that's far greater.

1631. No one would ever have a problem

1632. giving all that you have

  1633. for something way better

1634. if you knew that it was way better.

  1635. And it becomes difficult

1636. to give our lives to God

1637. and to give our time to God

1638. and our money to God

1639. and whatever else it might be

1640. that's difficult to give to God.

1641. You have to know that behind that,

  1642. you don't really believe

  1643. that God is good

1644. or that he has the ability

  1645. to give you all

1646. that he promised to give you.

1647. You think in some way,

  1648. some form,

  1649. you're being ripped off.

  1650. And it's not true.

1651. That's not the good news

  1652. of the kingdom.

1653. Another reason why it's priority.

1654. Jesus talked about the kingdom

1655. more than any other topic.

1656. And he spent his last days

1657. on earth speaking about it.

  1658. Acts 1.3,

  1659. he appeared to them

  1660. during 40 days

  1661. and spoke to them

1662. about the kingdom of God.

1663. He's got his last days on earth.

1664. What's he going to speak about?

  1665. The kingdom of God?

1666. He could have spoke about anything.

  1667. What did he spend

1668. his last 40 days speaking on?

  1669. He spoke to them

1670. about the kingdom of God.

1671. What do you speak about?

  1672. Do we speak about

  1673. the kingdom of God?

1674. Paul also talked a lot

1675. about the kingdom of God

1676. and spent the last two years

1677. of his life proclaiming it.

  1678. Acts 19.8,

  1679. he entered the synagogue

  1680. and for three months

  1681. spoke boldly,

  1682. reasoning and persuading them

1683. about the kingdom of God.

  1684. Acts 20.25,

  1685. and now behold,

1686. I know that none of you

1687. among whom I have gone

  1688. about proclaiming the kingdom

1689. will see my face again.

1690. Okay, speaking to the church

  1691. in Ephesus.

1692. He went about in Ephesus

  1693. for two years.

  1694. What was he doing?

1695. Proclaiming the kingdom of God.

  1696. Acts 28.23,

  1697. when they had appointed

  1698. a day for him,

  1699. they came to him

  1700. at his lodging

  1701. in greater numbers.

1702. Paul was in house arrest.

  1703. From morning till evening,

  1704. he expounded them.

  1705. What did he think

1706. he talked to them about?

1707. When he's at the end

  1708. of his life,

  1709. he's on house arrest,

  1710. what did Paul spend

  1711. his time talking about?

  1712. Testifying to the kingdom

  1713. of God

1714. and trying to convince them

  1715. about Jesus,

1716. both from the law of Moses

  1717. and from the prophets.

1718. He's speaking of the king

  1719. in the kingdom,

  1720. Jesus in the kingdom.

  1721. You see that again

  1722. in Acts 28.30.31,

1723. he lived there two whole years

  1724. at his own expense

  1725. and welcomed all

  1726. who came to him,

1727. proclaiming the kingdom of God

  1728. and teaching about

  1729. the Lord Jesus Christ

  1730. with all boldness

  1731. and without hindrance.

1732. And we should teach the same.

  1733. We should be proclaiming

  1734. the kingdom of God

1735. and we should be teaching

1736. about the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1737. Very important.

1738. If it was important to them,

1739. it should be important to us.

1740. If it was important to Jesus,

1741. it should be important to us.

1742. If it was important to Paul

1743. to spend his last days

  1744. and Jesus to spend

1745. his last days on earth,

  1746. speaking of the kingdom,

1747. it should be for us as well.

1748. The fact that it's eternal

1749. takes priority of the temporal.

  1750. Daniel 7.14 says,

1751. To him who was given

  1752. dominion and glory

  1753. and a kingdom

  1754. that all people's nations

  1755. and languages

  1756. should serve him,

  1757. his dominion

  1758. is an everlasting kingdom.

  1759. Everlasting dominion

1760. which shall not pass away

  1761. and his kingdom

1762. one that shall not be destroyed.

  1763. Psalm 119.160

1764. Every one of your righteous rules

  1765. endures forever.

  1766. Psalm 145.13

1767. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom

  1768. and your dominion endures

  1769. throughout all generations.

  1770. His kingdom is forever.

  1771. His kingdom is eternal.

  1772. And the eternal

  1773. always trumps the temporal.

  1774. What is eternal?

  1775. His kingdom.

  1776. Many things will pass.

  1777. Many things you enjoy

1778. that I enjoy will pass.

1779. One thing that will live forever

1780. is the rule of King Jesus.

  1781. His rule is everlasting.

  1782. I love Psalm 145.13.

  1783. Your kingdom

  1784. is an everlasting kingdom.

  1785. Your dominion

  1786. endures

  1787. throughout all generations.

1788. That's why it takes precedent.

1789. That's why it takes priority.

1790. That's why when they preached

  1791. the gospel,

1792. it wasn't just called the gospel.

  1793. What was it called?

1794. You see it in Matthew.

1795. You see it in Luke.

1796. You even see it in Acts.

  1797. It was called

  1798. the gospel of

  1799. kingdom.

1800. It's called the good news of

  1801. the kingdom.

  1802. Okay?

1803. When you hear the gospel,

1804. it's the good news of the kingdom.

  1805. That's what it is.

1806. Every good thing about Jesus Christ

  1807. is about the kingdom.

  1808. Why?

  1809. Because he's the king.

1810. All that stuff in the gospel

  1811. we love so much.

  1812. We say justification,

  1813. expiation,

  1814. propitiation,

1815. all the Asians that we say

  1816. that are so great.

  1817. Why are they great?

  1818. Because they are executed

  1819. by a king.

  1820. If he's not king,

1821. none of those great things

  1822. come to us.

1823. I love it when people say,

  1824. I think this guy

1825. has accepted Jesus as Savior,

  1826. but not Lord.

1827. As if that was possible.

1828. As if there's some guy

  1829. named Jesus

  1830. who's not Lord.

  1831. There probably is,

1832. but that's not Jesus the Christ.

1833. The Christ is the anointed ruler.

  1834. If he can't,

  1835. if he's not Lord,

1836. he can't be your Savior.

1837. How would he have the authority

1838. and the power to save you

  1839. if he's not Lord,

  1840. if he's not king?

  1841. You can't separate them.

  1842. Jesus isn't some person

1843. you can like split up

  1844. into multiple things

  1845. and just say,

  1846. I'll take this part

  1847. about you, Jesus,

  1848. but not that part.

1849. It's got to be all.

  1850. So you can't say,

1851. well, I think that guy,

  1852. I think he believes

1853. that Jesus is the Savior,

  1854. but not his Lord.

  1855. It's not even possible.

1856. The only one who can save you

  1857. is your Lord.

1858. The only one who can save you

1859. is the one who rules over

  1860. and has defeated death.

1861. How could he save you from death

1862. if he doesn't rule over it?

  1863. He must.

  1864. Okay?

  1865. Seven,

  1866. it pleases God

1867. to give you the unshakable kingdom.

  1868. I love Luke 12, 32.

1869. It is your Father's good pleasure

1870. to give you the kingdom.

  1871. Do you believe that?

1872. When you pray Matthew 6

1873. to say your kingdom come,

  1874. your will be done,

1875. do you believe that it pleases him

1876. to give it to you?

  1877. That he's not thinking,

  1878. well,

  1879. you know,

  1880. Chris hasn't really been

1881. a good boy this week.

  1882. I don't know if I'm going

1883. to give him the kingdom.

  1884. No.

  1885. It pleases God

1886. to give Chris the kingdom.

  1887. It pleases God

1888. to give you the kingdom.

  1889. Why?

  1890. Because

  1891. he's a good king.

1892. And he knows that his rule

1893. is the best thing for you.

  1894. So it pleases him

1895. to give you all the benefits

  1896. of the kingdom.

  1897. Because he knows

  1898. as a king

  1899. who's a good ruler,

  1900. he knows that

1901. his rule is best for people

  1902. when he's a good king.

1903. And so to give it to them

1904. is to give the best thing possible.

  1905. As kids,

  1906. sometimes we don't understand

  1907. when our parents

1908. are telling us to do something

  1909. and they provide rules

  1910. and we say,

  1911. oh,

1912. I want to do something else

  1913. that seems more fun.

  1914. They don't realize

  1915. that the parents know

1916. what's best for the kid.

1917. And it's the same thing

1918. with your father in heaven.

  1919. He is the king

  1920. and he knows

  1921. that his rules

  1922. are good for you

1923. and so it pleases him

1924. to give you the rules.

1925. Because they are for your good.

  1926. They comfort you.

  1927. Pleases God

1928. to give you the kingdom

1929. and it's not just any kingdom.

  1930. Hebrews 12, 28

1931. says it's an unshakable kingdom.

  1932. Daniel 7, 27

  1933. says the kingdom

  1934. and the dominion

  1935. and the greatness

  1936. of the kingdoms

  1937. under the whole heaven

  1938. shall be given

  1939. to the people

  1940. of the saints

  1941. of the Most High.

1942. He's giving it to us.

  1943. There is a soon

  1944. and coming kingdom.

  1945. Jesus is returning

1946. and he's going to give us

  1947. this kingdom.

1948. We cannot plant a church

  1949. that doesn't have

  1950. as its focus

  1951. the kingdom.

  1952. Church without kingdom

  1953. is humanism.

  1954. It has our ends

  1955. as the end.

  1956. Stop.

  1957. It has our pleasure

  1958. as the end.

  1959. Right?

1960. A church that is focused

  1961. on the kingdom

  1962. has the king's will

  1963. and pleasure

  1964. first and foremost.

  1965. You have church

  1966. without kingdom,

  1967. it's humanistic.

  1968. Okay?

  1969. And then you get

  1970. this weird sacred secular

  1971. if you don't have

  1972. the kingdom being

1973. the focus of a church

  1974. where you think,

  1975. oh, this is important

  1976. and this is not.

  1977. This is ministry,

  1978. this is not.

  1979. And then full-time ministry

  1980. becomes the end-all,

  1981. be-all.

1982. And if you work a job,

  1983. it's like,

  1984. that's no big deal.

1985. That's not that big of a deal.

  1986. A stay-home mom,

  1987. are you kidding me?

  1988. What significance

  1989. would that have?

  1990. But when your focus

  1991. is the kingdom,

  1992. then you realize

  1993. that all of life

  1994. is sacred.

  1995. All of life

  1996. has purpose.

  1997. All of life

  1998. has dignity

  1999. and value

  2000. because I can bring

  2001. the kingdom,

  2002. the rule of God,

  2003. into every single area

  2004. of my life.

  2005. Therefore,

  2006. everything has value,

  2007. everything has purpose,

  2008. and everything is infused

  2009. with something bigger

  2010. than myself,

2011. which is what you were

  2012. meant to live for.

2013. You want to live for

  2014. something small and impish?

  2015. Live for yourself.

  2016. The church can't live

  2017. for itself.

2018. It will implode on itself.

  2019. It needs to live

  2020. for the kingdom.

  2021. Okay?

  2022. And kingdom without church

  2023. is not possible

  2024. because the church

  2025. is the physical outflowers

  2026. of that kingdom.

  2027. It's the embassies

  2028. of the kingdom.

  2029. It's the actual

  2030. demonstration of what

  2031. that invisible kingdom

  2032. is in the visible.

  2033. Otherwise,

  2034. it's just this

  2035. invisible reality.

  2036. We make the invisible

  2037. visible as the church.

2038. We take this rule of God

  2039. that you can't see

  2040. and say,

2041. this is what it looks like.

2042. This is what it looks like

2043. among a group of people

  2044. living by the rules

  2045. of the ruler.

  2046. We make that practical.

  2047. You can't have kingdom

  2048. without church.

2049. We know that the unrighteous

2050. will not inherit the kingdom.

  2051. 1 Corinthians 6,

  2052. Galatians 5,

  2053. Ephesians 5

  2054. give this list of

  2055. different people

  2056. who will not inherit

  2057. the kingdom of God.

  2058. Okay?

  2059. And he says,

2060. you can be sure of this.

  2061. Those are lists

  2062. we should read.

  2063. Those are lists

  2064. you should study

  2065. because the church

  2066. has started to think

2067. that you can be a part

  2068. of the kingdom

2069. and be in those things.

2070. And the Bible is explicit

2071. that there are certain people

  2072. who will not inherit

  2073. the kingdom of God.

2074. We don't want to be

  2075. those people.

2076. How do we do something

  2077. about that?

  2078. We remember the Lord

  2079. constantly.

  2080. That's why we take

  2081. to the Lord's table.

  2082. We say,

  2083. God,

  2084. apart from you,

2085. I have no good thing.

  2086. We say,

  2087. God,

2088. but by the grace of God,

  2089. go I.

  2090. And we don't live

  2091. in our own self-righteousness.

  2092. We don't live

  2093. in our own strength.

  2094. We trust

  2095. that our only hope

  2096. is Jesus.

  2097. Number 11,

  2098. through many tribulations

2099. we must enter the kingdom.

2100. It says in Acts 14,

    Acts 14:22

  2101. verse 22.

2102. This is what they preached.

2103. This is what Paul was preaching.

  2104. He would strengthen

2105. the souls of the disciples,

2106. encourage them in the faith.

  2107. And he said,

  2108. through many tribulations

  2109. we must enter

  2110. the kingdom of God.

2111. That means it's not easy.

  2112. That means there's

  2113. going to be trouble.

2114. Jesus said a similar thing.

  2115. In this world,

  2116. you will have trouble.

  2117. But take heart.

  2118. I got good news

  2119. of the kingdom

  2120. that we overcome

  2121. because Jesus is overcome,

  2122. right?

  2123. We're not comer-unders,

  2124. we're overcomers,

  2125. right?

  2126. We're not comer-unders,

  2127. we're overcomers.

  2128. Obstacles of tribulation comes,

  2129. we overcome

2130. by the word of our testimony

2131. and the blood of the Lamb.

  2132. Right?

  2133. And we do that

2134. and that's how we enter

  2135. the kingdom.

  2136. It's through tribulation,

  2137. it's through hardship,

2138. it's not going to be easy.

  2139. Right?

  2140. Lastly,

  2141. number 12,

  2142. big picture.

  2143. Ephesians 1.9,

  2144. making known to us

2145. the mystery of his will

  2146. according to his purpose

2147. which he set forth in Christ.

2148. As a plan for the fullness of time

2149. to unite all things in him,

  2150. things in heaven

  2151. and things on earth.

2152. This is the mystery of his will.

  2153. He's bringing all things

  2154. in heaven and earth,

  2155. your will be done,

2156. on earth as it is in heaven.

  2157. That the culmination

2158. would be that all things

  2159. in heaven and earth

2160. would come under one head

  2161. which is Christ.

2162. That's where this is all going.

2163. Why are we all about

  2164. the kingdom now?

  2165. Because that's where

2166. it's all going in the end.

  2167. Right?

2168. That's the mystery of his will.

  2169. Jesus came to bring

  2170. all things underneath

  2171. the headship

  2172. of Jesus.

  2173. Colossians 1.18-20

2174. He is the head of the body,

  2175. the church.

  2176. He is the beginning,

2177. the firstborn from the dead,

  2178. that in everything

  2179. he might be preeminent.

  2180. For in him

2181. all the fullness of God

  2182. was pleased to dwell.

  2183. For what?

  2184. That through him

  2185. to reconcile to himself

  2186. all things,

  2187. whether on earth

  2188. they're in heaven

  2189. making peace

2190. by the blood of his cross.

2191. You see where this is all headed?

2192. You see where this is all going?

  2193. The blood of Jesus

  2194. reconciling people,

  2195. bringing them underneath

  2196. the rule of God,

  2197. connecting heaven

  2198. and earth together.

  2199. Hebrews 2.6-8

2200. It has been testified somewhere,

  2201. What is man

2202. that you are mindful of him?

2203. Or the son of man

2204. that you care for him?

2205. You made him for a little while

  2206. lower than the angels.

  2207. You have crowned him

  2208. with glory and honor,

  2209. putting everything in subjection

  2210. under his feet.

2211. This is such a practical verse here.

  2212. And he says,

  2213. Now I'm putting everything

  2214. in subjection to him.

  2215. He left nothing

  2216. outside his control.

  2217. You think,

  2218. Yeah, but

2219. it doesn't seem that way.

  2220. What does it say?

  2221. At present,

2222. we do not yet see

2223. everything in subjection to him.

  2224. Okay?

2225. So he put everything in control,

2226. but we don't see it yet.

  2227. It's here.

  2228. It's like a mustard seed.

  2229. It's like yeast.

2230. One day it will infect

  2231. the whole world completely.

  2232. Jesus will return

2233. and rule over this earth

  2234. and make it new.

2235. We see that in Revelation 11.15.

  2236. Then the seventh angel

  2237. blew his trumpet

2238. and there was loud voices

  2239. in heaven saying,

2240. The kingdom of the world

  2241. has become the kingdom

  2242. of our Lord

  2243. and of his Christ

2244. and he shall reign forever and ever.

2245. That's where this is going.

  2246. That's where we're headed to.

  2247. 1 Corinthians 15,

  2248. last verse,

  2249. 24 to 28,

  2250. Then comes the end

  2251. when he delivers

2252. the kingdom to God the Father

  2253. after destroying every rule

2254. and every authority and power.

  2255. For he must reign

  2256. until he has put

  2257. all his enemies

  2258. under his feet.

  2259. The last enemy

  2260. to be destroyed

  2261. is death.

2262. For God has put all things

  2263. in subjection

  2264. under his feet.

  2265. But when it says

  2266. all things are put

  2267. in subjection,

  2268. it is plain

  2269. that he is accepted

  2270. who put all things

  2271. in subjection

  2272. under him.

  2273. When all things

  2274. are subjected to him,

  2275. then the Son himself

  2276. will also be subjected

  2277. to him

  2278. who put all things

  2279. in subjection

  2280. under him

  2281. that God may be

  2282. all in all.

  2283. Isn't that amazing?

  2284. Even Jesus gives

  2285. the kingdom

  2286. to the Father

  2287. and says,

2288. This is all for you.

  2289. That's where

  2290. the culmination

  2291. of this is going.

  2292. The last thing

  2293. to be destroyed

  2294. is death.

  2295. Okay?

  2296. We sell the beginning

  2297. of that

  2298. with the resurrection

  2299. of Jesus.

2300. That was our down payment.

  2301. And one day

  2302. we will be resurrected

  2303. as well.

  2304. In the meantime,

  2305. we preach the gospel

  2306. to as many.

  2307. We become all things

  2308. to all men

  2309. that by all means

  2310. we might win

  2311. as many as possible

  2312. so that as many

  2313. as possible

  2314. will be resurrected

  2315. to that day

  2316. unto eternal life.

  2317. Does that make sense?

  2318. That's where we're going.

  2319. Amen?

  2320. Amen.

  2321. Amen.
