  1. I was actually thinking of the concept of planting versus established.

  2. Me and trees have this kind of battle we've been doing for the last three years of like,

  3. I am going to plant trees that live, and then they say, no, we will die.

  4. And I have this pine tree that I planted at the beginning of the year.

  5. I planted four of them.

  6. One of them, it's planted, right?

  7. It's planted.

  8. But it is not established.

  9. And I feel like it's dying from the bottom up.

  10. So just the very top has got this green part, and then all the rest is brown.

  11. And I don't think that one's going to make it.

  12. But you can plant something without it being established.

  13. And so this church is planted, but is it established?

  14. Not quite yet.

  15. We're working on that, right?

  16. And we're all doing our part.

  17. So I want to speak into that a little bit today.

  18. And the message that I want to preach today is becoming relationship poor so that others can become relationship rich.

  19. Okay?

  20. Becoming relationship poor so others can become relationship rich.

  21. Now, in this church plant, we got this group of people together that the Lord put together.

  22. And we are building relationships and trying to get to know one another and build family together.

  23. Some of those are existing stronger relationships.

  24. Some aren't as much.

  25. And you got the mix of both.

  26. And then we have other relationships elsewhere.

  27. And so there's all kinds of dynamics in that.

  28. But some of the relational pressing into one another, sometimes it can be difficult, right?

  29. Sometimes it can start off good.

  30. And then it's like, okay, there's a little bit of wonkiness, right?

  31. As you get into the nitty-gritty of stuff.

  32. And that's, first of all, that's normal, right?

  33. That's...

  34. What relationship doesn't have a little wonkiness at some point in time?

  35. Or a little difficulty at some time?

  36. That is the nature of relationships.

  37. But I think there's ways that we can promote a certain level of unity and oneness and depth.

  38. And then there are ways that we can kind of shoot ourselves in the foot with that.

  39. And so I was having a conversation with a couple a few weeks ago, a month ago.

  40. And we were talking about what is required to build healthy church culture.

  41. And ended up talking about kind of this topic.

  42. I had been reading in 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians.

  43. And so some of these themes were...

  44. I was getting language for them.

  45. These are themes that we've been talking about for years.

  46. But I felt like some verses gave me better language for some of them.

  47. So I'm going to jump into that.

  48. Basically, I'm mostly going to be in 2 Corinthians in this whole message.

  49. We'll bounce around a little bit out of that.

  50. But mostly in 2 Corinthians.

  51. But I'm going to actually start in 1 Corinthians.

  52. To give you a little backdrop before we get into 2 Corinthians.

  53. And I'm going to start in 1 Corinthians chapter 12, 21 to 27.

    1 Corinthians 12 chapter mention

  54. 1 Corinthians 12, 21 to 27 is talking about the necessity of all the parts of the body.

  55. And it says, verse 21,

  56. On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.

  57. On those parts of the body that we think less honorable, we bestow the greater honor.

  58. And our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require.

  59. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it,

  60. that there may be no division in the body,

  61. but that the members may have the same care for one another.

  62. If one member suffers, all suffer together.

  63. If one member is honored, all rejoice together.

  64. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

  65. But, okay.

  66. Side note, by the way, I know I told this to some of you,

  67. but just so you know, you guys deciding to go over to Bellicose to support the church,

  68. going through the grieving process with the loss of Caspian Vaughn,

  69. that meant a lot to a lot of people.

  70. So, good move on that one.

  71. Good job.

  72. That was, that blessed.

  73. I heard from a number of people that they were really appreciative

  74. that you guys all came over there and just mourned with them and comforted them.

  75. So, I just love that.

  76. And that's, to me, just an example of when one part suffers, we all suffer, you know.

  77. But he says the members, he says the reason that he's thinking about all this stuff

  78. is so that the members may have the same care for one another.

  79. And he starts that off by saying, hey, the eye can't say to the hand, I have no need of you,

  80. nor the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

  81. And so, in a real direct sense, we would all say, well, no one would ever say that, right?

  82. I would never like literally say, hey, listen, I have no need of you, you know.

  83. We wouldn't say it that outright, but we can actually live in such a way where we

  84. kind of live like that, you know.

  85. We might not say it, like, hey, I have no need of you.

  86. I'm fine on my own.

  87. But we can live in a way that I have these certain people that are my go-tos.

  88. I got my people where these are the people if I need to kind of open up, if I need to

  89. just relax, if I need to just get some quality time or some deep time, or if we're going to

  90. do something impactful together, those are my people.

  91. But I don't really need you for that because I have that with other people.

  92. So especially when you have new missional community starting and a new church starting,

  93. you can give off that impression that, hey, we're doing this because, you know, that's

  94. what we're supposed to do, right?

  95. You know, I'm supposed to be with you.

  96. I'm in your missional community.

  97. I'm with this church.

  98. But, I mean, I don't really need you because I got these people that are my people.

  99. I got these people where I get my life from.

  100. And so I do this with you, but I don't really need you for that.

  101. And what ends up happening is some people don't get the same care.

  102. And his concern here is that the members may have the same care for one another.

  103. Sometimes we're not able to give the right care to other people because we are too focused

  104. on these people where it's become easy.

  105. Your besties, the kind of people you've developed a relationship, you've already pushed through

  106. the wonkiness and the relational hardship.

  107. These are your people.

  108. You just know you can count on them.

  109. You know, yeah, we've had our thing, but that's kind of in the past.

  110. But since we've been there, done that, it's not going to happen anymore.

  111. So those are my people.

  112. And so you, I don't really want to do that again with you.

  113. I've already did that with a group of people.

  114. And that was a lot of work.

  115. So I'm just going to stick with these group of people.

  116. And I'll kind of, I'll hang around you and I'll do the church thing and I'll fulfill

  117. my religious obligation.

  118. But, you know, I'm not going to go, I don't really need you.

  119. And again, you wouldn't say it, but you say it.

  120. Does that make sense?

  121. Not so much?

  122. You with me?

  123. Okay, good.

  124. You have the same kind of thing when he talks about communion, actually.

  125. In 1 Corinthians 11, chapter before, verse 20, he says,

  126. when you come together, it's not the Lord's supper that you eat.

  127. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal.

  128. One goes hungry and another gets drunk.

  129. And then he says in verse 24 with an exclamation point, what?

  130. What?

  131. Do you not have houses to eat and drink in?

  132. Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing?

  133. What shall I say to you?

  134. Shall I commend you in this?

  135. No, I will not.

  136. Skip in verse 29.

  137. He says, for anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body,

  138. eats and drinks judgment on himself.

  139. And then in verse 33, he says, so then, my brothers, when you come together to eat,

  140. wait for one another.

  141. If anyone's hungry, let them eat at home.

  142. So when you come together, it will not be for judgment.

  143. Essentially, he's saying you can't live church life together in a way that's independent of the body.

  144. You can't just say, well, I'm hungry.

  145. I'm thirsty.

  146. I'm going to eat as much as I want, drink as much as I want.

  147. And then you find out, oh, there's not enough for everybody.

  148. But I don't really care about that.

  149. He's saying, hey, you have to care about that.

  150. And it's one thing to do that with food.

  151. But we could do that relationally, right?

  152. Where you just say, well, I have this relational thing with some people,

  153. but I don't really need it with other people.

  154. And I don't really, I just, I got my thing here going and it's good.

  155. But it's kind of the same thing.

  156. One goes hungry and another gets drunk, right?

  157. One is hungry for relationship.

  158. Another one has plenty of relationship,

  159. but we don't care as much about the people who don't have as close a relationship.

  160. And that can be a problem, right?

  161. Some people might say, even going into this church plant,

  162. they might have said six months ago, I'm good at relationships.

  163. I'm good at all the work that it takes to build that and get close to one another.

  164. I'm good at that.

  165. And my question to you is, are you?

  166. Because if you're only good with some people, then you're not necessarily good at it.

  167. You may have thought maybe that you're good at something because you have it with some people.

  168. But if you're not able to spread that with other people,

  169. you're not as good as you think you are at building relationships.

  170. And some of us, I believe in this church, need to stretch our relational muscles.

  171. Some of us haven't worked out in a while relationally.

  172. We're a little stiff.

  173. We're a little wonky.

  174. And you might say, well, what are you even talking about?

  175. I'm saying, it's like, you're saying we don't do relationships?

  176. I'm saying, no, you do easy relationships maybe.

  177. But what about the ones that are harder?

  178. What about the ones that take more work?

  179. What about the ones you don't have a history with?

  180. What about the ones where you haven't worked through that stuff

  181. and you got to start from scratch with some people that you don't know as well?

  182. Have you worked out the soreness?

  183. Have you worked out the stiffness and said, I'm going to press through that

  184. and get to a place where the relationship is loose in a good sense,

  185. where it's flexible, where it's real?

  186. I think that there's some people who maybe have come into this thinking,

  187. oh, this is going to be easy because I'm good at relationship.

  188. But you can think you're good at relationship

  189. because you have certain people that you're good at it with.

  190. But if you're not good at it with everybody, you're probably not that good at it.

  191. And that's something I want to challenge us with,

  192. to at least just think about.

  193. Ask that question.

  194. How am I with that?

  195. How am I with relationship?

  196. And don't base it on your best friends.

  197. Base it on how it is with the stranger.

  198. Base it on how it is with the person who's new.

  199. Base it on the person who you don't have history with in Christchurch

  200. that you're getting to know.

  201. How are you doing with that?

  202. Is it wonky?

  203. Is it difficult?

  204. And do you give up or do you persevere?

  205. That's the question I want to ask you.

  206. So let's get into our main text though.

  207. 2 Corinthians chapter 6 and 2 Corinthians chapter 8.

2 Corinthians 6 chapter mention 2 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  208. So we'll start with the verse in 2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 10.

    2 Corinthians 6:10

  209. There's just this little phrase here

  210. that kind of frames what I'm talking about

  211. and then it gets elaborated more in 2 Corinthians chapter 8.

    2 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  212. 2 Corinthians 6.10 he says,

  213. there's this phrase in there where he says,

  214. we are poor yet making many rich.

  215. We're poor yet making many rich.

  216. Love that phrase.

  217. And then he elaborates on it in 2 Corinthians chapter 8.

    2 Corinthians 8 chapter mention

  218. If you're in there you can move to chapter 8 verse 1.

  219. 2 Corinthians chapter 8 verse 1 says,

    2 Corinthians 8:1

  220. We want you to know brothers about the grace of God

  221. that has been given among the churches of Macedonia.

  222. For in a severe test of affliction their abundance of joy

  223. and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.

  224. For they gave according to their means,

  225. as I can testify,

  226. and beyond their means of their own accord,

  227. begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints.

  228. Okay?

  229. And this not as we expected,

  230. but they gave themselves first to the Lord

  231. and then by the will of God to us.

  232. Accordingly we urge Titus that as he had started,

  233. so he should complete among you this act of grace.

  234. But as you excel in everything,

  235. in faith and speech and knowledge and all earnestness,

  236. and in our love for you,

  237. see that you excel in this act of grace also.

  238. So he's talking about this monetary gift they're giving.

  239. These guys were giving above and beyond their means,

  240. and they didn't have a lot,

  241. and yet they were begging earnestly for the favor of taking part in this relief.

  242. Okay?

  243. So then in verse 8 he says,

  244. I say this not as a command,

  245. to see that you excel in this act of grace also,

  246. I say this not as a command,

  247. but to prove by the earnestness of others

  248. that your love also is genuine.

  249. Then in verse 9 he says,

  250. and this is the key verse here,

  251. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  252. that though he was rich,

  253. yet for your sake he became poor,

  254. so that you by his poverty might become rich.

  255. Okay?

  256. So he's talking about money there,

  257. but then when he talks about the motive for doing that,

  258. he speaks of how Jesus became poor

  259. so that others could become rich.

  260. And he's not talking about money there.

  261. He's not talking about Jesus had a lot of money,

  262. and then he decided to become poor,

  263. and he gave us a lot of money.

  264. Like, that's not what he's saying there.

  265. He's saying, no, this is bigger.

  266. And the specific of giving money,

  267. he then goes bigger and says,

  268. this is what Jesus modeled in a much bigger way.

  269. That this is a picture of the grace of God.

  270. That though Jesus was rich,

  271. yet for your sake he became poor,

  272. so that you by his poverty might become rich.

  273. Okay?

  274. So,

  275. do you do this to other people?

  276. Do you ever become poor so that others become rich?

  277. And I'm not talking about even monetarily,

  278. although you could.

  279. There are things sometimes that we have

  280. that we give up to make other people have more.

  281. Right?

  282. And that's,

  283. Jesus modeled that better than anybody else.

  284. Okay?

  285. Let's look at this in the context of relationships.

  286. Romans 15 verse 7 says,

    Romans 15:7

  287. welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you

  288. for the glory of God.

  289. Okay?

  290. So, we just got a picture of how Christ has welcomed us.

  291. So, we need to do the same thing.

  292. How has he welcomed us?

  293. Well, he took on poverty

  294. so that other people could take on being rich.

  295. Are we willing to do that?

  296. That involves sacrifice.

  297. To say,

  298. I will sacrifice what I have

  299. if it means that other people could have more.

  300. Right?

  301. James chapter 2, 15 through 17 says,

    James 2 chapter mention

  302. if a brother or sister is poorly clothed

  303. and lacking in daily food,

  304. and one of you says to them,

  305. go in peace,

  306. be warmed and filled,

  307. without giving them the things needed for the body,

  308. what good is that?

  309. So also by faith,

  310. so also faith by itself,

  311. if it does not have works,

  312. is dead.

  313. Let me reword this

  314. in thinking of it like relationships.

  315. Okay?

  316. If a brother or sister is relationship poor,

  317. lacking in relationship,

  318. and one of you says to them,

  319. go in peace,

  320. I hope you find good relationships.

  321. Without spending and being spent

  322. to give them deep familiar relationships,

  323. what good is that?

  324. So also faith by itself,

  325. if it does not have works,

  326. is dead.

  327. Going to church meetings out of obligation,

  328. with no intention to connect deeply

  329. with the people that are there,

  330. because you already have your people

  331. you do that with,

  332. is one of the greatest ways

  333. to build shallow,

  334. insincere,

  335. off-putting church culture

  336. that no one needs,

  337. no one wants,

  338. no one likes,

  339. and that certainly falls short

  340. of the glory of God.

  341. Okay?

  342. Okay?

  343. We can't just say,

  344. well,

  345. yeah,

  346. I'm supposed to be a part

  347. of this missional community,

  348. or I'm supposed to relate

  349. to these people,

  350. so I'll do that

  351. out of religious obligation,

  352. but really,

  353. if I really want the goods,

  354. if I really want the deep stuff,

  355. if I really want that relational juices,

  356. you know,

  357. that I,

  358. I'm going to go to this person

  359. who's not in my missional community.

  360. I'm going to go to this person

  361. who's not even a part of our church,

  362. and I'm going to get it from them

  363. because I already know

  364. that one works.

  365. Right?

  366. We've got years together.

  367. We've got history together.

  368. And I know if I need the goods,

  369. I can always go to them

  370. to get the goods.

  371. Well,

  372. if you're always supplementing

  373. with that relationship

  374. outside of your missional community

  375. or outside of your church in general,

  376. what you're doing is

  377. making sure that it never happens

  378. in your missional community

  379. and it never happens in your church.

  380. Do you understand

  381. what I'm saying here?

  382. That's a really important thing.

  383. And so you can end up having

  384. this church culture

  385. where you basically do things

  386. out of religious obligation

  387. because it's like,

  388. well,

  389. I'm supposed to be with these people.

  390. This is my church

  391. or this is even more specifically,

  392. this is my smaller part of the church.

  393. This is my missional community.

  394. And so I'm going to spend time with them

  395. because that's what I'm supposed to do.

  396. But really,

  397. I'm not really in it to win it.

  398. My heart's not there.

  399. My heart's actually with these other people.

  400. And when I really need to get comfort

  401. or I really need to get friendship

  402. or I really want to have fun

  403. or I really want to do mission,

  404. I'll deal with them

  405. because I don't really know these people.

  406. And if everybody does that,

  407. then church really is lame.

  408. And God is not glorified

  409. because it's required

  410. that we connect in that deep way.

  411. and new people coming in,

  412. they need to experience that.

  413. You might say,

  414. well, I already have that.

  415. Well, so what?

  416. What about the person

  417. who doesn't have that?

  418. Are you going to be indifferent to them

  419. and just say,

  420. I'm good?

  421. If everybody did that,

  422. then new people

  423. would never experience

  424. the deeper life

  425. and the relationship

  426. that's necessary.

  427. So people might just say,

  428. well, can I,

  429. because I hear this all the time.

  430. I've heard this for years.

  431. Can't I just build

  432. with the people I'm close to?

  433. Right?

  434. I mean, yeah,

  435. I get this whole

  436. missional community thing.

  437. That's cute, Josh.

  438. You got,

  439. you like your church planning stuff

  440. and you like all your ideas

  441. and that's good for you, Josh.

  442. That's cool.

  443. But I mean,

  444. I don't really get into those people.

  445. Can I just build with,

  446. can we just form

  447. like a super missional community

  448. with like all the people

  449. who are my best friends?

  450. I mean,

  451. we would be awesome.

  452. And guess what?

  453. You probably would be.

  454. But then what about

  455. all those new people?

  456. What about the people

  457. who don't have

  458. the relationships you have?

  459. You just going to selfishly

  460. do your thing

  461. in the name of church

  462. while they don't have that?

  463. You can't do that.

  464. We can't do that.

  465. You know,

  466. it can't just be us four no more.

  467. Okay,

  468. what about the people

  469. who aren't close to anyone?

  470. How do they get close

  471. to other people?

  472. By sacrificing

  473. your best relationships

  474. to give the necessary time,

  475. energy,

  476. and heart

  477. to build with other people,

  478. you basically are becoming

  479. relationship poor

  480. so others can become

  481. relationship rich

  482. just like Jesus.

  483. What I'm saying is

  484. there's an element

  485. of sacrifice

  486. of the relationships

  487. you already have

  488. that's required

  489. to build those

  490. same kind of relationships

  491. with people

  492. you don't yet have.

  493. okay?

  494. Because you usually

  495. can't do both.

  496. There's not enough time

  497. in the day,

  498. weeks,

  499. months.

  500. You only have so much

  501. relational capital

  502. that you can build with

  503. and if it's all in this

  504. these relationships

  505. that are existing

  506. you're not going to be able

  507. to do it with other people

  508. but

  509. not to mention

  510. if you wanted to just

  511. hang out with the same people

  512. then you don't sign up

  513. for a church plant.

  514. You don't start

  515. you don't like

  516. no one put a gun

  517. to your head

  518. no one said

  519. hey you had to be

  520. a part of the church plant

  521. but by being a part

  522. of the church plant

  523. you're literally saying

  524. I'm going to sacrifice

  525. the time spent

  526. with the people

  527. who I already have developed

  528. and I'm going to get

  529. out of my comfort zone

  530. I'm going to become

  531. relationship poor

  532. on purpose

  533. sacrificing existing

  534. relationships

  535. in order that I may

  536. give other people

  537. relationship richness.

  538. I'm going to

  539. sacrifice this

  540. to work towards this

  541. and it's going to cost.

  542. Healthy church

  543. is expensive.

  544. It's expensive

  545. and at the end of the day

  546. some people don't want

  547. to pay the price.

  548. Some people don't want

  549. the price.

  550. It costs though.

  551. I think of

  552. my own experience

  553. in this

  554. you know

  555. over the years

  556. you know

  557. even when we've

  558. just

  559. anytime we've wanted to

  560. we've started

  561. a new missional community

  562. or a new iteration

  563. of a missional community

  564. we had to say

  565. okay

  566. I'm diverting

  567. my attention

  568. to these people

  569. in order to go

  570. deep with them.

  571. I'm going to sacrifice

  572. what I have

  573. with these other people

  574. to go deep

  575. with these people

  576. and a lot of times

  577. what happens is

  578. you have this kind of

  579. fear of relationship loss.

  580. Well

  581. if I do that

  582. I'm going to lose

  583. those relationships

  584. that are really good

  585. but that's the catch.

  586. In God's kingdom

  587. that's not how it works.

  588. If those are real

  589. if that's a real relationship

  590. you're not going to lose that

  591. you just gain new ones.

  592. Because

  593. Mark 8.35 says

  594. whoever would save his life

  595. will lose it

  596. but whoever loses his life

  597. for my sake

  598. and the gospel

  599. will save it.

  600. And so

  601. we think

  602. oh if I

  603. if I sacrifice

  604. my existing relationships

  605. and the depth

  606. that I have with them

  607. in order to build

  608. to put the right

  609. relational capital

  610. into a different relationship

  611. and build that

  612. I will lose this

  613. but no

  614. by

  615. by losing it

  616. you gain.

  617. And over time

  618. what's happened is

  619. when

  620. Gene and I

  621. have done that

  622. with our family

  623. it's not that

  624. we've lost those relationships

  625. it's just been added

  626. on and on and on.

  627. And now we have

  628. so many great relationships

  629. because in different

  630. seasons of time

  631. we gave a lot

  632. of relational capital

  633. to go deep

  634. with a few.

  635. and then

  636. but we didn't

  637. lose the other ones.

  638. We didn't lose

  639. the other ones.

  640. It just keeps growing.

  641. And I know people

  642. psychologists

  643. and people

  644. will say like

  645. you can only handle

  646. so many.

  647. Says who?

  648. Says who?

  649. Does the word of God

  650. say that?

  651. Does the word of God

  652. say that you

  653. can't have that many

  654. good relationships?

  655. I don't care

  656. what those guys say.

  657. You can.

  658. I've seen it by experience.

  659. I've seen it

  660. in other people's lives

  661. but it takes sacrifice.

  662. It takes sacrifice.

  663. Are you willing

  664. to become

  665. relationship poor

  666. in one area

  667. so that someone else

  668. can become

  669. relationship rich?

  670. What kind of

  671. what a great gift

  672. to be able to give people

  673. but to multiply family

  674. and say

  675. I want to give you

  676. relationship richness.

  677. I've experienced something

  678. and now I want to

  679. give it to you.

  680. Because the question is

  681. is relationship generosity

  682. optional?

  683. Is it optional

  684. to be relationship generous?

  685. I don't think it is.

  686. Let's take a look.

  687. Let's look in 2 Corinthians

  688. a little bit more.

  689. There's this concept

  690. in 2 Corinthians

  691. that's hit

  692. a bunch of times

  693. and it's a biblical concept

  694. not just 2 Corinthians

  695. it's in the rest

  696. of scripture

  697. but just looking

  698. in 2 Corinthians

  699. here primarily

  700. it's this concept

  701. that when you're blessed

  702. the purpose

  703. of your blessing

  704. is to bless.

  705. So blessed

  706. to be a blessing.

  707. Blessed to bless.

  708. Let's take a look at it.

  709. 2 Corinthians chapter 1

    2 Corinthians 1:3–4

  710. verses 3 to 4

  711. it says

  712. Blessed be the God

  713. and Father

  714. of our Lord Jesus Christ

  715. the Father of mercies

  716. and God of all comfort

  717. who comforts us

  718. in all our affliction.

  719. Stop there.

  720. Why?

  721. Comfort is a blessing.

  722. We've been blessed

  723. with comfort.

  724. Why does God

  725. give us comfort?

  726. Just for us?

  727. Just for us to enjoy?

  728. He comforts us

  729. in all our affliction

  730. next word

  731. so that

  732. okay

  733. so now he's telling us

  734. why

  735. so that we may be able

  736. to comfort those

  737. who are in any affliction

  738. with the comfort

  739. with which we ourselves

  740. are comforted by God.

  741. So God comforts us

  742. so we can do what?

  743. Comfort others.

  744. He blesses us

  745. so we can bless others.

  746. Is it not true

  747. in the same way

  748. that he gives us

  749. an experience

  750. of deep relationship

  751. and family

  752. so that we can give it

  753. to other people

  754. who don't have that?

  755. Is that not what God wants?

  756. You know how many people

  757. I mean by far

  758. over the last 13 years

  759. almost every single person

  760. who I meet

  761. who's coming into church

  762. or is looking for a church

  763. they all say the same thing.

  764. Like what are you after here?

  765. What's going on?

  766. I just want community.

  767. You know if you

  768. there's studies done

  769. there's a loneliness epidemic

  770. right now in the world.

  771. People are just so lonely.

  772. Loneliness is the norm.

  773. Our technological culture

  774. right now

  775. is literally designed

  776. to create loneliness.

  777. Right?

  778. The way we do life

  779. is built that way.

  780. And so people

  781. don't have relationships.

  782. People don't know

  783. how to talk to one another.

  784. Texting has made it

  785. really weird.

  786. You know?

  787. People don't know

  788. how to talk face to face.

  789. They don't understand

  790. body language.

  791. They don't understand

  792. relating to one another.

  793. They certainly don't

  794. understand family.

  795. They don't understand

  796. what it's like

  797. to have relationships

  798. outside of blood

  799. that are like family.

  800. And most of the people

  801. don't even understand

  802. what it's like

  803. in an actual blood family.

  804. and if you have

  805. experienced that

  806. in family

  807. and outside of family

  808. in a spiritual family

  809. and you have

  810. a whole bunch of people

  811. all over Raytown

  812. all over Kansas City

  813. who have not experienced that

  814. and you have a whole bunch

  815. of other people

  816. even professing Christians

  817. who have not experienced that

  818. and you've been given

  819. that revelation

  820. and you know how to build it

  821. you know how to experience it

  822. you're relationship rich.

  823. If you then are not willing

  824. to become relationship poor

  825. so others can become

  826. relationship rich

  827. what does that say about us?

  828. Is that not selfish?

  829. Is that not just a slap

  830. in the face

  831. of the one who taught us

  832. to be relationship poor

  833. so others can be

  834. relationship rich?

  835. Jesus himself

  836. who became poor

  837. so that we could become rich?

  838. Isn't that just like

  839. a total forgetting

  840. of the gospel

  841. and that we've been cleansed

  842. from our past sin?

  843. We've been blessed

  844. to be a blessing.

  845. 2 Corinthians chapter 8

    2 Corinthians 8:14

  846. verse 14

  847. he says this

  848. he says

  849. your abundance

  850. at the present time

  851. should supply their need

  852. so that their abundance

  853. may supply your need

  854. that there be any fairness.

  855. So again

  856. it's the same concept.

  857. Why are you given abundance?

  858. So that your abundance

  859. can supply their need.

  860. You've been blessed

  861. to be a blessing.

  862. Do you have an abundance

  863. of healthy relationships?

  864. Are you just so content

  865. with them

  866. that you're not

  867. willing to do the work

  868. to give other people that

  869. and to find that

  870. with other people?

  871. We can't be selfish in that.

  872. Your abundance

  873. at the present time

  874. is there

  875. so that you can supply

  876. someone else's need.

  877. Same thing

  878. in 2 Corinthians chapter 9

    2 Corinthians 9 chapter mention

  879. next chapter

  880. verse 6

  881. he's speaking

  882. of finances again here

  883. but I think

  884. there's a bigger picture

  885. of giving.

  886. The point is this

  887. in verse 6

  888. whoever sows sparingly

  889. will also reap sparingly

  890. whoever sows bountifully

  891. will also reap bountifully.

  892. Each one must give

  893. as he has decided

  894. in his heart

  895. not reluctantly

  896. under compulsion

  897. for God loves

  898. a cheerful giver

  899. and God is able

  900. to make all grace

  901. abound to you

  902. so that having

  903. all sufficiency

  904. in all things

  905. at all times

  906. you may abound

  907. in every good work.

  908. As it is written

  909. he has distributed freely

  910. he has given to the poor

  911. his righteousness

  912. endures forever.

  913. he who supplies

  914. seed to the sower

  915. and bread for food

  916. will supply and multiply

  917. your seed for sowing

  918. and increase the harvest

  919. of your righteousness.

  920. You will be enriched

  921. in every way

  922. to be generous

  923. in every way

  924. which through us

  925. will produce

  926. thanksgiving to God.

  927. So he's literally saying

  928. when you give

  929. he'll multiply

  930. your ability to give

  931. so you can give more

  932. because some people

  933. are like

  934. if I do this

  935. I won't have enough

  936. in the tank.

  937. that's not true.

  938. The Bible says

  939. that when you give

  940. faithfully

  941. he gives you power

  942. and ability

  943. he enriches you

  944. in every way

  945. to be generous

  946. in every way.

  947. You say

  948. if I become

  949. relationship poor

  950. I won't have enough

  951. to make others

  952. relationship rich.

  953. He says no

  954. you will be enriched

  955. in every way

  956. to be generous

  957. in every way.

  958. Your giving

  959. and becoming poor

  960. only makes it

  961. so that God

  962. gives you more

  963. to keep giving.

  964. That's the economy

  965. of God.

  966. Well if I give

  967. I won't have any left.

  968. No you will be

  969. he will supply

  970. and multiply

  971. your seed

  972. not for yourself

  973. but for sowing.

  974. He'll multiply

  975. your seed

  976. for sowing

  977. and you'll be

  978. enriched in every way

  979. to be generous

  980. in every way

  981. which through us

  982. will produce

  983. thanksgiving to God

  984. which is why we do it.

  985. It's for the glory of God.

  986. It produces

  987. thanksgiving to God

  988. for the ministry

  989. of this service

  990. is not only supplying

  991. the needs of the saints

  992. but is also overflowing

  993. in many thanksgivings

  994. to God.

  995. By their approval

  996. of this service

  997. they will glorify God

  998. because of your submission

  999. that comes from

  1000. your confession

1001. of the gospel of Christ

  1002. and the generosity

  1003. of your contribution

  1004. for them

  1005. and for all others

  1006. while they long

  1007. for you

  1008. and pray for you

  1009. because of the surpassing

  1010. grace of God

  1011. upon you.

  1012. Thanks be to God

  1013. for this inexpressible gift.

  1014. Okay?

  1015. So

  1016. essentially

  1017. God has given us

  1018. the gift

  1019. if you've

  1020. ever experienced

  1021. close relationship

  1022. if you've ever

  1023. experienced

  1024. church as family

  1025. some of you

  1026. maybe you haven't

  1027. you've seen it

  1028. from a distance

  1029. you've heard it

  1030. talked about

  1031. but you haven't

  1032. really experienced that

  1033. but if you have

  1034. you now have

  1035. a responsibility

  1036. if you've experienced

  1037. church as family

  1038. in that deep

  1039. abiding relationship

  1040. where you have

  1041. relationships

  1042. that are even

  1043. stronger than blood

  1044. you now have

  1045. a responsibility

  1046. to give that

  1047. away to others

  1048. to sacrifice

  1049. what you have

  1050. built there

  1051. so that you can

  1052. spend more time

  1053. building it

  1054. with other people

  1055. and

  1056. this is a

  1057. submission

  1058. that comes

  1059. from your

  1060. confession

  1061. of the gospel

  1062. of Christ

  1063. and the generosity

  1064. of your contribution

  1065. for them and others

  1066. when you believe

  1067. the gospel

  1068. you then submit

  1069. to a

  1070. gospel lifestyle

  1071. meaning

  1072. when you know

  1073. that God

  1074. became poor

  1075. so that you

  1076. could become

  1077. rich

  1078. you then submit

  1079. out of your

  1080. confession of the gospel

  1081. and say

  1082. I'm going to do

  1083. the same

  1084. I'm not just going

  1085. to preach the gospel

  1086. I'm going to

  1087. demonstrate it

  1088. by my very life

  1089. and so it

  1090. becomes normative

  1091. for us

  1092. in hopefully

  1093. church culture

  1094. to say

  1095. I'm willing to

  1096. sacrifice my

  1097. time

  1098. energy

  1099. and even

  1100. relationships

  1101. that are so good

  1102. that I love

1103. and I get so much

  1104. life from

  1105. but I'm going to

  1106. sacrifice the time

  1107. I spend with them

  1108. in order

  1109. that I can

  1110. focus on

  1111. a few people

  1112. that I don't

  1113. have that with

  1114. or who don't

  1115. have that all

  1116. together

  1117. to give them

  1118. that

  1119. what great

  1120. gift is that

  1121. to give people

  1122. relationship richness

  1123. and what does it

  1124. result in

  1125. thanksgiving to God

  1126. what does it result

  1127. in

  1128. glorifying

  1129. of God

  1130. this is

  1131. they will glorify

  1132. God because

  1133. of your submission

  1134. that comes from

  1135. your confession

  1136. of the gospel

  1137. this is unto

  1138. God's glory

  1139. basically what

  1140. this is

  1141. is just

  1142. being others

  1143. focused

  1144. and what the

  1145. tendency can be

  1146. is that I only

  1147. think about myself

  1148. I want my

  1149. good relationships

  1150. I want my

  1151. time with my

  1152. best friend

  1153. like I just

  1154. love being with

  1155. so and so

  1156. it's so easy

  1157. it's so light

  1158. it's so natural

  1159. and then

  1160. when I

  1161. you know

  1162. when I spent

  1163. that with my

  1164. missional community

  1165. who I don't know

  1166. as well

  1167. it's just

  1168. it's not the same

  1169. you know

  1170. when I spent

  1171. time with even

  1172. maybe people

  1173. in Christchurch

  1174. because maybe

  1175. I got better

  1176. relationships

  1177. outside of

  1178. Christchurch

  1179. so yeah

  1180. I do the

  1181. Christchurch thing

  1182. because I signed

  1183. up for that

  1184. and I'm here

  1185. but you know

  1186. outside of

  1187. Christchurch

  1188. I got this

  1189. one relationship

  1190. or there's

  1191. two or three

  1192. or four

  1193. it's like

  1194. if I really

  1195. want to get

  1196. the goods

  1197. that's where

  1198. I go

  1199. and you

  1200. need to

  1201. understand

  1202. that will

  1203. that

  1204. that will

  1205. grind the

  1206. gears

  1207. of our

  1208. progress

  1209. forward

  1210. as a

  1211. church

  1212. both for

  1213. our

  1214. relational

  1215. wholeness

  1216. our

  1217. evangelistic

  1218. outreach

  1219. and the

  1220. glory

  1221. of God

  1222. and it's

  1223. important to

  1224. see that

  1225. that that's

  1226. not without

  1227. consequence

  1228. we do that

  1229. and it's

  1230. essentially

  1231. selfish

  1232. we should

  1233. be other

  1234. centered

  1235. 2nd

  1236. Corinthians

  1237. chapter 1

  1238. you see this

  1239. you see this

  1240. concept in

  1241. all throughout

  1242. 2nd

  1243. Corinthians

  1244. 2nd

  1245. Corinthians

  1246. 1

  1247. 24

  1248. he says

  1249. not that

  1250. we lord

  1251. it over

  1252. your faith

  1253. but we

  1254. work with

  1255. you

  1256. for your

  1257. joy

  1258. for you

  1259. stand firm

  1260. in your

  1261. faith

  1262. for your

  1263. joy

  1264. so it's

  1265. basically

  1266. saying

  1267. I'm going

  1268. to work

  1269. with you

  1270. not just

  1271. for my

  1272. joy

  1273. and that's

  1274. maturity

  1275. says

  1276. I don't

  1277. I don't

  1278. seek

  1279. relationships

  1280. just for

  1281. my joy

  1282. I'm working

  1283. with you

  1284. for

  1285. your joy

  1286. I've been

  1287. blessed

  1288. I already

  1289. have so many

  1290. great

  1291. relationships

  1292. I want

  1293. to give

  1294. them to

  1295. you

  1296. I want

  1297. to make

  1298. you

  1299. relationship

  1300. rich

  1301. I'm working

  1302. with you

  1303. for

  1304. your joy

  1305. do you

  1306. do that

  1307. do you

  1308. work for

  1309. others

  1310. joy

  1311. is it

  1312. only

  1313. for you

  1314. is only

  1315. what I

  1316. can get

  1317. out of

  1318. it

  1319. when you

  1320. say

  1321. how's

  1322. your

  1323. missional

  1324. community

  1325. it's

  1326. just

  1327. like

  1328. oh

  1329. it's

  1330. alright

  1331. is

  1332. it's

  1333. not

  1334. that

  1335. great

  1336. are you

  1337. saying

  1338. that

  1339. because

  1340. you're

  1341. not

  1342. getting

  1343. much

  1344. out

  1345. of

  1346. it

  1347. or

  1348. because

  1349. the

  1350. people

  1351. in

  1352. your

  1353. missional

  1354. community

  1355. aren't

  1356. getting

  1357. much

  1358. from

  1359. you

  1360. you

  1361. ever

  1362. thought

  1363. about

  1364. that

  1365. well

  1366. it's

  1367. not

  1368. very

  1369. good

  1370. because

  1371. I'm

  1372. not

  1373. getting

  1374. anything

  1375. why aren't

  1376. you a little

  1377. selfish

  1378. person

  1379. oh I'm

  1380. sorry I

  1381. forgot that

  1382. the whole

  1383. world revolves

  1384. around you

  1385. you know

  1386. no what

  1387. about if we

  1388. thought well

  1389. it's actually

  1390. not going

  1391. that good

  1392. because

  1393. I'm not

  1394. giving

  1395. other people

  1396. joy

  1397. that'd be

  1398. legitimate

  1399. right

  1400. or it's

  1401. going great

  1402. why

  1403. because I'm

  1404. getting so

  1405. much

  1406. no it's

  1407. going great

  1408. because I've

  1409. found many

  1410. ways now

  1411. to give

  1412. other people

  1413. relationship

  1414. joy and

  1415. richness

  1416. and it's

  1417. awesome

  1418. do you see

  1419. the difference

  1420. there

  1421. it's an

  1422. important

  1423. distinction

  1424. 2 Corinthians

  1425. 5

  1426. just a

  1427. classic

  1428. one of my

  1429. faves

  1430. in our

  1431. gospel

  1432. motivation

  1433. 2 Corinthians

  1434. 5 14

  1435. to 15

  1436. says

  1437. for the

  1438. love of

  1439. Christ

  1440. controls

  1441. us

  1442. because

  1443. we have

  1444. concluded

  1445. this

  1446. that one

  1447. has died

  1448. for all

  1449. therefore

  1450. all have

  1451. died

  1452. and he

  1453. died

  1454. for all

  1455. why

  1456. he died

  1457. for all

  1458. that

  1459. those

  1460. who

  1461. live

  1462. might

  1463. no

  1464. longer

  1465. live

  1466. for

  1467. themselves

  1468. but

  1469. for him

  1470. who

  1471. for their

  1472. sake

  1473. died

  1474. and was

  1475. raised

  1476. okay

  1477. so

  1478. again

  1479. it's

  1480. that

  1481. gospel

  1482. reality

  1483. that

  1484. caused

  1485. us

  1486. to

  1487. say

  1488. I

  1489. don't

  1490. live

  1491. for

  1492. myself

  1493. anymore

  1494. this is

  1495. what the

  1496. Moravians

  1497. had

  1498. carved

  1499. in their

  1500. rings

  1501. none

  1502. lives

  1503. for

  1504. themselves

  1505. if you

  1506. want to

  1507. be a

  1508. people

  1509. that makes

  1510. people

  1511. relationship

  1512. rich

  1513. we have

  1514. to not

  1515. live for

  1516. ourselves

  1517. and be

  1518. able to

  1519. become

  1520. relationship

  1521. poor

  1522. for their

  1523. sake

  1524. and how

  1525. do we

  1526. do that

  1527. like how

  1528. how could

  1529. you

  1530. how do you

  1531. sacrifice

  1532. something you

  1533. really love

1534. you have to be able to have something that you love more

1535. you have to have something that's better

1536. to be able to actually say

1537. I'm going to give this up

1538. well why are you doing that

  1539. because

  1540. the love of Christ

  1541. controls me

  1542. another version says

  1543. the love of Christ

  1544. compels me

  1545. you know

1546. we love because he first loved us

  1547. 1 John 4 19

  1548. you know Luke 7 47

1549. those have been forgiven much

  1550. love much

  1551. uh

  1552. uh

  1553. Romans 12 verse 1

    Romans 12:1

1554. in view of God's mercy

1555. offer your body's living sacrifice

  1556. it's all this

  1557. something else proceeds

  1558. it's the gospel

  1559. it's who God is

  1560. and what he's done

1561. and when you know that

  1562. and you believe it

  1563. it says

1564. I will no longer live for myself

  1565. I'm dead

  1566. I'm dead

  1567. so

  1568. it's not about me

  1569. you

1570. you decided to become a part of this church plant

  1571. you know

  1572. some from the beginning

  1573. some have come later

  1574. I'm asking you

  1575. are you in it

  1576. for others

  1577. because of Christ

  1578. right

  1579. are you in it

  1580. for others

1581. or are you in it for you

1582. if you're in it for you

  1583. roadblock

  1584. wonkiness

  1585. difficulty

  1586. little gear grinding

1587. this engine ain't working so hot

  1588. yeah

1589. or it's working a little too hot right now

1590. we need a little lubricating

  1591. of the relationships there

  1592. we need some

  1593. relationship oil in there

  1594. right

  1595. 2 Corinthians chapter 8

    2 Corinthians 8:23

  1596. verse 23

  1597. it says

  1598. as for Titus

  1599. 2 Corinthians 8 verse 23

    2 Corinthians 8:23

  1600. as for Titus

  1601. he is my partner

  1602. and fellow worker

  1603. for your benefit

  1604. you see it again

  1605. there's a theme

  1606. all throughout 2 Corinthians

  1607. Titus is my partner

  1608. and fellow worker

  1609. for your benefit

  1610. that's partnership

  1611. right

  1612. that's partnership

  1613. where you just say

  1614. you could say

1615. someone else in this church

  1616. you could say

  1617. hey

  1618. so and so

  1619. is my partner

  1620. and my fellow worker

1621. and what does that mean

  1622. for your benefit

  1623. not for themselves

  1624. but for somebody else

  1625. for your benefit

  1626. for you to become

  1627. a relationship rich

  1628. moving to 2 Corinthians chapter 12

    2 Corinthians 12 chapter mention

  1629. 2 Corinthians 12 verse 15

    2 Corinthians 12:15

  1630. Paul makes this

  1631. amazing statement

  1632. regarding the Corinthians

  1633. and he says

1634. I will most gladly spend

  1635. and be spent

  1636. for

  1637. your souls

  1638. okay

1639. if I love you more

1640. am I to be loved less

  1641. he says

1642. I will most gladly spend

  1643. and be spent

  1644. for your souls

1645. so it's not just spending

  1646. but it's being spent

1647. so it's not just giving

  1648. of your resources

  1649. it's giving of yourself

  1650. it's like

  1651. that's what Paul said

  1652. to the Thessalonians

  1653. right

  1654. he said

  1655. I share with you

  1656. not only the gospel

  1657. but our very lives

  1658. he's saying here

  1659. I'm not just spending

  1660. but I'm being spent

1661. and in order to build

  1662. relationship richness

  1663. in other people

  1664. you have to spend

  1665. and be spent

1666. how are we doing on that

  1667. how are we doing

  1668. on spending

  1669. and being spent

  1670. in our relationships

  1671. are we pressing through

  1672. and saying

  1673. alright

1674. this is going to cost

1675. it's not just going to cost

  1676. my stuff

  1677. my money

  1678. my time

1679. it's going to cost me

1680. I'm not just going to spend

1681. but I'm going to be spent

  1682. that's what it takes

  1683. to build relational depth

  1684. relational familial

  1685. experience of church

  1686. it takes us

  1687. spending and being spent

1688. and notice what he says though

1689. I will most gladly spend

  1690. and be spent

1691. how do you do it gladly

  1692. the gospel

  1693. you remember the gospel

  1694. are you

1695. some of you are spending

  1696. and being spent

1697. and maybe a little bit

1698. of the gladness wore off

  1699. you know

  1700. it's like hey

  1701. I'm doing it man

  1702. get off my case

  1703. I'm spending

  1704. and being spent

  1705. don't tell me

  1706. I'm not doing it

  1707. I'm doing it

  1708. are you glad

  1709. no

  1710. you know

1711. we have to be glad in it

  1712. I'm spent

  1713. I'm being spent

  1714. but Paul added

  1715. one other thing

  1716. he said

  1717. I will most gladly

  1718. spend and be spent

  1719. and that's the key

  1720. you can spend

  1721. and be spent

  1722. and everyone's just

  1723. a bunch of grumpy

  1724. church curmudgeons

1725. and we don't really have

  1726. like you know

  1727. that kind of relationship

  1728. oil lubricating

  1729. the relationship

  1730. so all the gears

  1731. are working well

  1732. and we're just

  1733. enjoying one another

  1734. and there's grace

  1735. and compassion

  1736. and forgiveness

  1737. and it's just

  1738. you know

  1739. understanding that

1740. yeah you're not like me

  1741. but that's okay

  1742. I love you

  1743. yeah you don't

  1744. understand how to do

  1745. this that great

  1746. but I love you

  1747. and I don't understand

1748. how to do some things either

1749. so I'm gonna be merciful

  1750. for you

  1751. hopefully you're merciful

  1752. to me

  1753. and there's this

  1754. give and take relationship

  1755. and I'll most gladly

  1756. spend and be spent

  1757. for you

1758. when you have a culture

  1759. of gladly being spent

  1760. and being spent

1761. or another way to say it

  1762. see when you spend

  1763. and you're spent

  1764. you're becoming poor

  1765. right

  1766. so gladly spending

  1767. and being spent

  1768. even giving up

  1769. relationships

  1770. you know are easier

1771. you know you could get

  1772. more life from immediately

  1773. you'll gladly spend

  1774. those relationships

  1775. in order

  1776. to build it

  1777. with other people

  1778. gladly spent

  1779. and being spent

  1780. jumping out of there

1781. for two more verses here

  1782. Romans 13 verse 8

    Romans 13:8

  1783. says

  1784. owe no one anything

1785. except to love one another

  1786. okay

  1787. you basically say

  1788. I owe it

  1789. to other people

  1790. to love them

  1791. like I have a debt

  1792. to them

  1793. to love them

  1794. like that's

  1795. I'm constantly looking

1796. like how can I just

  1797. pay this debt

  1798. to love one another

  1799. that's the thing

  1800. I want to owe

  1801. and then Philippians 2

  1802. last verse

  1803. the classic

  1804. selfless verse

  1805. Philippians 2

  1806. 3 to 4

  1807. do nothing from selfish

  1808. ambition or conceit

  1809. but in humility

  1810. count others

  1811. more significant

  1812. than yourselves

  1813. let each of you

  1814. not look only

  1815. to his own interests

  1816. but also

  1817. to the interest

  1818. of others

  1819. are we doing that

  1820. are we doing that

  1821. do you specifically

  1822. have some relationships

  1823. in Christchurch

  1824. or outside of Christchurch

1825. that you need to sacrifice

  1826. in order to focus

  1827. your time and energy

  1828. with some different

  1829. relationships

  1830. in Christchurch

  1831. do you

  1832. if you do

  1833. I'm challenging you

  1834. do it

  1835. do it

  1836. but it's not

  1837. death unto death

  1838. it's death unto life

  1839. okay

  1840. if you think

  1841. it's death unto death

  1842. that's not very motivating

  1843. just wait

1844. you want me to give up

  1845. these relationships

1846. to not get any relationships

  1847. no no no

  1848. I'm saying

  1849. give up those relationships

  1850. to get new relationships

  1851. while you keep

  1852. the other ones

  1853. that's what you get

  1854. you get it all

1855. this is why Jesus said

1856. if you give up lands

  1857. and homes

  1858. and your life

1859. will you not just gain

  1860. even more

  1861. in this life

1862. and in the life to come

  1863. right

1864. how is he saying that

  1865. because that's what happens

1866. but it comes on the back

  1867. of sacrifice

1868. and so we're not willing

  1869. to do that

1870. I think some of us

  1871. are thinking

1872. why am I not gaining

  1873. traction

  1874. in some of these

  1875. relationships

  1876. in Christchurch

  1877. why am we

  1878. we stuck in certain

  1879. relationships

  1880. in the missional community

  1881. and there could be

  1882. other reasons

  1883. I'm not saying

1884. this is the only reason

  1885. but I think

  1886. some of it

  1887. is because

  1888. we're supplementing

  1889. somewhere else

  1890. and we're ruining

  1891. our relationship dinner

  1892. right

  1893. we've been snacking

  1894. over here

  1895. and getting all

  1896. the stuff here

1897. and then we get over

  1898. to the table

  1899. of the relationships

  1900. in our missional community

  1901. and saying

  1902. yeah I'm already full

  1903. I'm good

  1904. I'm not really hungry

  1905. and then the other

  1906. people who are hungry

  1907. they don't get anything

  1908. to eat

  1909. and that's unfortunate

1910. and we have to make sure

1911. that we don't do that

  1912. amen

  1913. amen

  1914. let's persevere

  1915. with gratitude

  1916. into these things

1917. you guys can come up

  1918. that's one other thing

1919. I want to remind us of

1920. before we were sent out

  1921. as the church here

  1922. at Bellacos

  1923. three of the words

  1924. that God gave us

1925. to focus on this year

  1926. was build

  1927. persevere

  1928. and gratitude

1929. and just starting this church

  1930. is definitely building

  1931. right

  1932. I mean

  1933. you guys

  1934. are very much

  1935. in the world

  1936. of building

  1937. but don't forget

  1938. the other two things

  1939. because I think

  1940. they're really important

  1941. and especially now

  1942. to persevere

  1943. with gratitude

  1944. gratitude

  1945. you know

  1946. even like what

  1947. Seth was saying

  1948. during our time

  1949. in communion together

  1950. when he was talking

  1951. about grumbling

  1952. like

  1953. once you hit

  1954. those relationship walls

  1955. are you grumbling

  1956. or are you persevering

  1957. with gratitude

1958. God gave us those words

  1959. for a reason

  1960. and just because

1961. you guys were sent out

  1962. doesn't mean

  1963. that it wasn't

  1964. still spoken to you

  1965. at the beginning

1966. of the year as well

  1967. and I think

  1968. they're just as

  1969. applicable for

  1970. applicable for us now

  1971. that we would

  1972. persevere with gratitude

  1973. and just say

  1974. hey

  1975. whatever

  1976. whatever difficulty

  1977. there is

  1978. I'm going to

  1979. persevere through it

  1980. I'm going to

  1981. build these relationships

  1982. I'm going to

  1983. do what it takes

  1984. Amen
