  1. Okay, I'm going to talk to you about how Jesus is, what Colossians 1 says, he is the firstborn from the dead.

  2. The firstborn from the dead.

  3. You know, if you grew up in the church, the resurrection, Easter Sunday is a pretty run-of-the-mill thing that you've done before.

  4. It's one of the most concrete apologetics of the Christian faith.

  5. Jesus rose from the dead.

  6. And as happens with many things in life, is the things that we hear a lot, the things that we are told, and even the most fundamental things are sometimes forgotten.

  7. Okay, and the resurrection, I think, along with everything else, can be forgotten in its significance.

  8. And this is a big deal.

  9. This is an incredibly big deal.

  10. Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there would be no Christians.

  11. No Christian without the resurrection.

  12. In fact, Paul says that if Christ wasn't raised, our preaching is in vain.

  13. All our preaching is vain.

  14. And we're actually the most to be pitied in the world if Christ wasn't raised.

  15. But as it says, in fact, Christ was raised from the dead.

  16. Amen?

  17. So I'm going to talk to you about specifically how Jesus is the firstborn among the dead.

  18. Like I said, that comes from Colossians 1, verse 18, which says,

    Colossians 1:18

  19. He is the head of the body.

  20. I'm a little excited there.

  21. He is the head of the body of the church.

  22. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.

  23. Okay?

  24. Jesus is the firstborn among the dead.

  25. Romans 8, 29 says,

  26. There's this idea that Jesus, when He was raised, was the first in His significance.

  27. Okay?

  28. This wasn't the only, Jesus wasn't the only person that was resurrected.

  29. You can think of Lazarus.

  30. There's people who died and came back to life.

  31. But Jesus was significantly, uniquely the firstborn from the dead in that not only was He raised from the dead as the firstborn or as the preeminence,

  32. but that He lives never to die again.

  33. All those who were resurrected, if they were, died.

  34. Okay?

  35. Okay?

  36. Okay?

  37. Okay?

  38. And death is a lingering, a lot of times haunting thing for many, many people.

  39. Christians as well.

  40. But as we will go on, a Christian should not fear death.

  41. Not even in the slightest.

  42. Okay?

  43. But the world fears death.

  44. Death is the final thing in life that haunts many people.

  45. Marcus Aurelius says that, about death, he says,

  46. But death and life, honor and dishonor, pleasure and pain, all these things equally happen to good men and bad.

  47. Okay?

  48. Death, whether you're good, whether you're bad, whether you're rich, whether you're poor, however much pleasure or pain you have,

  49. death is something that happens to everyone.

  50. You cannot escape it.

  51. Okay?

  52. And Jesus came so that He might destroy death.

  53. All right?

  54. And death is something that if we're going to be in the world, that we have to understand in terms of how to deal with it.

  55. And if Jesus didn't deal with it, then we also, like the world, would be swallowed up by it.

  56. Okay?

  57. Okay?

  58. And so, my question to you, Christ Church, is where is your faith in regards to the resurrection of Jesus?

  59. And where is your faith in regards to death?

  60. How do you think about death?

  61. How do you think about death in regards to this world, which the Bible says is passing away?

  62. Okay?

  63. And how does the resurrection of Jesus, the fact that Jesus is the firstborn from the dead, change us as Christians?

  64. Okay?

  65. It makes us Christians.

  66. Okay?

  67. John 3 makes it very clear.

  68. Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus, and he says,

  69. Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.

  70. I leave with this kind of title of the firstborn from the dead,

  71. because it reminds us all that when Jesus was lifted up, when he was crucified and he rose from the dead,

  72. he is the firstborn that guarantees people being born after him.

  73. Okay?

  74. Romans 8 says that he is the firstborn among many brothers.

  75. So it's not just that we look at Jesus and we see, okay, that's awesome.

  76. He's the Lord.

  77. He conquered death.

  78. It's not just him in his isolation.

  79. It's that what that means is that he has offspring after him.

  80. That he has a host of captives that he has led unto life after him.

  81. That's good news, is it not?

  82. Isaiah 53 near the end says, in view of his resurrection,

  83. Isaiah 53 goes on almost completely about Christ's suffering,

  84. specifically for the sins of his people.

  85. But then in verse 10 it says,

  86. He will see his offspring and prolong his days,

  87. and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.

  88. Okay, so not only do we see in Isaiah 53 the excruciating pains of a suffering servant,

  89. but the promise that after his suffering he will see the fruit of his hand.

  90. He will see his offspring.

  91. Okay?

  92. This is good news for us.

  93. All right?

  94. If you trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins,

  95. if you trust in his atoning blood,

  96. what scripture calls the atoning power of the righteous,

  97. more specifically the atoning power of the one and only righteous one, Jesus,

  98. then you are numbered among his offspring.

  99. That's good news, Christchurch.

  100. So he's the firstborn from the dead.

  101. What, I ask you, what would pain, what would suffering,

  102. maybe even the suffering of, you know, a woman in labor, of childbirth,

  103. what would the pain of enduring those things be

  104. if there wasn't an eager expectation of new life on the other side,

  105. of a baby being born?

  106. Okay?

  107. What motivates somebody to go through such pains?

  108. It was the same with Jesus at Calvary.

  109. The scripture says that it was the joy that was set before him

  110. that made him endure the cross.

  111. Okay?

  112. And we, too, will share in the sufferings

  113. that we would actually go after something greater.

  114. You know, suffering is not,

  115. there's nothing worse than meaningless suffering.

  116. Right?

  117. And if you're a Christian,

  118. no suffering is meaningless.

  119. Okay?

  120. Every pain that you endure,

  121. any view of God's mercy,

  122. will be later realized.

  123. It will be later seen as,

  124. even however much we say it's meaningless,

  125. it will be a very precious thing.

  126. We might be even found saying

  127. that we shared in Christ's various sufferings

  128. by enduring ourselves.

  129. And so,

  130. Christ is the firstborn among the dead.

  131. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead

  132. wasn't just a statement about Jesus' divine identity,

  133. although it was.

  134. It was also a guarantee that he alone would not be the only one

  135. who would enjoy eternal life.

  136. Okay?

  137. Him being the firstborn of the dead,

  138. he has the offspring, as I said.

  139. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead

  140. was very much the genesis of salvation.

  141. It was the beginning.

  142. It was his inauguration.

  143. It was his stamp and his seal on something way back in the garden

  144. that the seed of the woman would one day crush the head of the serpent.

  145. Okay?

  146. We see in the garden that on the day that they ate of the fruit,

  147. it says that they will surely die.

  148. Death reigned from Adam up until Jesus came

  149. and confronted death in his own grave.

  150. This is good news for us.

  151. The serpent was laid waste by Jesus' resurrection.

  152. And one day, that will be completely sealed

  153. and completely done on the very last day

  154. when he's cast into the lake of fire.

  155. And then will come the saying

  156. that says death is swallowed up in victory.

  157. We got a foretaste of this when Jesus rose from the dead.

  158. When Jesus rose from the dead, it was a guarantee.

  159. However many feelings we have

  160. about whether or not it was significant,

  161. how that affects us now,

  162. it was a guarantee that one day,

  163. in its totality, death will be swallowed up.

  164. Death is inescapable, like I said.

  165. You know?

  166. But one day, the most inescapable thing in this life,

  167. every single one of us will die,

  168. with the exception maybe if, you know,

  169. we see the day of the Lord.

  170. But if we don't, we're going to die.

  171. Death will be swallowed up in victory.

  172. That inescapable, haunting feeling,

  173. haunting thing that all men face

  174. will be swallowed up in the victory of Jesus.

  175. And this is good news.

  176. Jesus rose from the dead,

  177. which makes him the leader of all his people,

  178. out of death.

  179. His rising from the dead is a proclamation

  180. to death, that he is that.

  181. He's the preeminent one.

  182. Revelation 1 says,

  183. he says,

  184. I died, Jesus speaking about himself,

  185. I died, and behold, I am alive forevermore,

  186. and I have the keys of death and Hades.

  187. May the Lord give us faith in regards to believing

  188. if we've fallen short of remembering the resurrection.

  189. Where is your faith in the resurrection?

  190. If you're a Christian, if you've been born again,

  191. there is no being born again.

  192. There is no hope in the future if Jesus wasn't raised.

  193. This is the thing that must empower us to live a life,

  194. even a life of suffering.

  195. We have to look into not just his pains that he suffered,

  196. but the seal after,

  197. that he did come out of the tomb and it was empty.

  198. The scripture says, I think in Matthew's account,

  199. that when Jesus died on the cross,

  200. that the earth shook,

  201. that there was actually a resurrection of dead saints.

  202. But then something happened in the temple.

  203. It says that the curtain of the temple was torn in two,

  204. from top to bottom, actually, it says.

  205. And to us, to our Gentile minds,

  206. that might seem strange or insignificant,

  207. but there's a lot of significance there,

  208. especially if you were a Jew and heard about it in its time.

  209. The curtain was the division, or the veil, you would say,

  210. between the rest of the congregation of Israel,

  211. between the common man and the Holy of Holies.

  212. That which is sacred and undefiled by man.

  213. And the Holy of Holies in the temple

  214. was where the sacrifices happened once a year.

  215. And the veil separated.

  216. It was a sign that sin had to be separated from God.

  217. The sin of man had to be kept away from God

  218. because God is holy.

  219. When Jesus died on the cross,

  220. it says that from top to bottom, that veil was torn.

  221. In what way was that significant?

  222. Well, number one, that God's dwelling place changed.

  223. It wasn't exclusively hidden in the way

  224. that he dwelt in a temple made with hands.

  225. It changed that his dwelling place actually became with man.

  226. That the separation from the Holy of Holies

  227. was done away with.

  228. That actually that the sin that separated us from God,

  229. God of his own volition,

  230. took responsibility for his own children

  231. and died the death that they deserve

  232. to bring him to God.

  233. Okay?

  234. When we think about,

  235. it's easy to think about a veil in the temple

  236. and maybe the ritual behind that.

  237. But what about the veil in your heart?

  238. What about your own struggle with your sin?

  239. Do you feel separated from God?

  240. How close to God do you feel?

  241. Do you sometimes feel close to God?

  242. Do you say to yourself,

  243. there's something between me and God.

  244. There's something.

  245. God is just an arm's length away,

  246. but he's not quite close.

  247. I think Jesus dying on the cross

  248. and that veil being torn

  249. was a statement that there is

  250. nothing that stands between us and God.

  251. Amen.

  252. Okay?

  253. That you, as a common person,

  254. as a deviled sinner,

  255. can come into the Holy of Holies

  256. with no veil.

  257. With no curtain.

  258. Okay?

  259. I just would want to be a Jew in that day

  260. trying to ponder what happened.

  261. You know?

  262. Like, this curtain is torn up

  263. and we just crucified Jesus.

  264. Something's going on here.

  265. You know?

  266. At the very least, right?

  267. But the powers of the heavens were shaken.

  268. Death itself was laid in his grave

  269. when Jesus died and rose.

  270. And so,

  271. we need to think about,

  272. if we're in Christ,

  273. where is our faith

  274. in regards to this sweet promise

  275. of what Jesus did?

  276. Okay?

  277. Not only in his death,

  278. which we talk about a lot,

  279. and rightfully so,

  280. but in his resurrection.

  281. Romans 4 says that

  282. he was raised

  283. for our justification.

  284. Okay?

  285. Do you believe that,

  286. Christ's church?

  287. Do you believe that with your sins

  288. that regularly plague you?

  289. Do you believe that on your good weeks

  290. and your bad weeks?

  291. Do you believe that Jesus

  292. being raised from the dead

  293. was a work that we did not do?

  294. That it was a punishment

  295. that he went on the cross

  296. that we deserve?

  297. And it was completed.

  298. He gave up his spirit.

  299. The KJV says he gave up his ghost

  300. and said,

  301. it's finished.

  302. Okay?

  303. It's done.

  304. If anything,

  305. that I want you guys to hear today

  306. is that that is true.

  307. If all of you go home,

  308. say to yourself and your own soul

  309. that it is finished.

  310. Christ rose from the dead,

  311. and one day we will see that

  312. in its fullness.

  313. Amen?

  314. Amen.

  315. I'm going to read real quick

  316. from Luke 24.

  317. This is about the resurrection.

  318. You guys can open up there if you want,

  319. but I'm going to go through it very quickly.

  320. Luke 24,

  321. starting in verse 1.

  322. On the first day of the week,

  323. at early dawn,

  324. they went to the tomb,

  325. taking the spices they had prepared.

  326. And they found the stone

  327. rolled away from the tomb.

  328. But when they went in,

  329. they did not find the body

  330. of the Lord Jesus.

  331. While they were perplexed about this,

  332. behold,

  333. two men stood by them

  334. in dazzling apparel.

  335. And as they were frightened

  336. and bowed their faces to the ground,

  337. the men said,

  338. why do you seek the living

  339. among the dead?

  340. He is not here,

  341. but he but has risen.

  342. Remember how he told you

  343. while he was still in Galilee

  344. that the Son of Man

  345. must be delivered

  346. into the hands of sinful men

  347. and be crucified on the third day

  348. and on the third day rise.

  349. And they remembered his words.

  350. And returning from the tomb,

  351. they told all these things

  352. to the eleven

  353. and to the rest.

  354. Now it was Mary Magdalene

  355. and Joanna

  356. and Mary,

  357. the mother of James

  358. and the other women

  359. with them

  360. who told them,

  361. who told these things

  362. to the apostles.

  363. For these words

  364. seemed to them

  365. an idle tale

  366. and they did not believe.

  367. They did not believe them.

  368. For Peter rose

  369. and ran to the tomb,

  370. stooping and looking in

  371. when he saw the linen cloths

  372. by themselves

  373. and he went home

  374. marveling at what had happened.

  375. Okay, so

  376. first day of the week happens.

  377. The women go to the tomb.

  378. They have an encounter

  379. with these angels

  380. and it says

  381. when they went into the tomb,

  382. they did not find

  383. in the body of the Lord

  384. and they were perplexed.

  385. Okay?

  386. You would think

  387. after Jesus' teaching

  388. about what's going to happen,

  389. hey, I'm going to die.

  390. The Son of Man

  391. will suffer and die

  392. but he's going to rise.

  393. You would think,

  394. like, yep,

  395. we believe that.

  396. Of course it's going to happen,

  397. you know?

  398. But it says that

  399. they're confused.

  400. They're perplexed.

  401. They didn't see the body

  402. and they're like,

  403. what's happened?

  404. I think sometimes

  405. in Christianity

  406. there could be a faith

  407. that is

  408. a kind of blind faith

  409. that we just accept things

  410. without any evidence

  411. or any speculation.

  412. And I think that's against

  413. even the witness of the Bible,

  414. especially in regards

  415. to the resurrection,

  416. is that

  417. they didn't understand

  418. what they were seeing.

  419. Why?

  420. Because they were using

  421. normal reason.

  422. This tomb

  423. is empty

  424. which doesn't make sense.

  425. This...

  426. People don't rise

  427. from the dead, right?

  428. So they're thinking

  429. in a carnal way

  430. but

  431. let's not make any mistakes

  432. that this is a witness

  433. to us

  434. that

  435. they weren't just

  436. hoping

  437. in this kind of

  438. ethereal way.

  439. They...

  440. God proved to them

  441. what he said

  442. he would do

  443. in fact.

  444. And

  445. we see that here

  446. that they were

  447. perplexed about it.

  448. And then

  449. when

  450. the women

  451. came to the apostles

  452. they told them

  453. all that had happened

  454. and they said

  455. it seemed to be

  456. an idle tale.

  457. So they're still

  458. in disbelief.

  459. Okay?

  460. And then we move on.

  461. In verse 13

  462. it says

  463. that

  464. that very day

  465. two of them

  466. were going to

  467. the village

  468. named Emmaus

  469. and

  470. about

  471. seven miles

  472. from Jerusalem

  473. and they were

  474. talking

  475. with each other

  476. about

  477. all these things

  478. that had happened

  479. while they were

  480. talking

  481. and discussing

  482. together

  483. Jesus himself

  484. went with them

  485. but their eyes

  486. were kept

  487. from recognizing him

  488. and he said

  489. to them

  490. what is this

  491. conversation

  492. that you're

  493. holding with

  494. each other

  495. as you walk?

  496. And they stood

  497. still

  498. looking sad

  499. then one of them

  500. named

  501. Cleopas

  502. answered

  503. answered him

  504. are you the only

  505. visitor

  506. to Jerusalem

  507. who does not

  508. know the things

  509. that have happened

  510. there these days?

  511. and he said

  512. to them

  513. what things?

  514. Jesus is

  515. trying to gather

  516. intel

  517. tell me about it

  518. what happened?

  519. And they said

  520. concerning Jesus

  521. of Nazareth

  522. a man

  523. who was a

  524. mighty prophet

  525. in deed

  526. and word

  527. before God

  528. and all the people

  529. still in disbelief

  530. he's not God

  531. he was just

  532. a mighty prophet

  533. and keep going

  534. what do they say?

  535. He says

  536. mighty word

  537. and deed

  538. before God

  539. and all the people

  540. and how our chief

  541. priests and rulers

  542. delivered them up

  543. to be condemned

  544. to death

  545. and crucified them

  546. and we had hoped

  547. that he was the one

  548. to redeem Israel

  549. fill in disbelief

  550. you know

  551. yes and besides

  552. all this

  553. there's not a third day

  554. since these things

  555. happened

  556. moreover some women

  557. of our company

  558. amazed us

  559. they were out

  560. to him early

  561. in the morning

  562. and when they

  563. did not find

  564. his body

  565. they came back

  566. saying that

  567. they had even

  568. seen a vision

  569. of angels

  570. that said

  571. that he was alive

  572. some of those

  573. who were with us

  574. went to the tomb

  575. and found

  576. it just as the woman

  577. had said

  578. but him

  579. they did not see

  580. so the news comes

  581. still don't believe it

  582. so they go check it out

  583. and they're like

  584. where's the body?

  585. yeah it's not here

  586. but we didn't find them

  587. and he said to them

  588. oh foolish ones

  589. so Jesus

  590. yeah

  591. directly confronts

  592. all of that

  593. he said

  594. oh foolish ones

  595. and slow of heart

  596. to believe

  597. all that the prophets

  598. have spoken

  599. was it not necessary

  600. that the Christ

  601. should suffer these things

  602. and enter into his glory?

  603. and beginning with Moses

  604. and all the prophets

  605. he interpreted to them

  606. and all the scriptures

  607. the things concerning himself

  608. and so they drew near

  609. to the village

  610. to which they were going

  611. he acted as if

  612. he was going farther

  613. but they urged him

  614. strongly saying

  615. stay with us

  616. for it is toward evening

  617. and the day is now

  618. far spent

  619. and so he went in

  620. to stay with them

  621. and when he was at table

  622. with them

  623. he took the bread

  624. and blessed

  625. and broke it

  626. and gave it to them

  627. and their eyes were opened

  628. and they recognized him

  629. and he vanished

  630. from their sight

  631. they said to each other

  632. did not our hearts

  633. burn within us

  634. while he talked to us

  635. on the road

  636. while he opened

  637. to us the scriptures

  638. and they rose

  639. that same hour

  640. and returned to Jerusalem

  641. and they found the eleven

  642. and those who were with them

  643. and gathered them

  644. saying

  645. the Lord has risen indeed

  646. and he has appeared

  647. to Simon

  648. then they told

  649. then they told

  650. what had happened

  651. on the road

  652. and how

  653. he was known to them

  654. in the breaking

  655. of the bread

  656. so Jesus reveals himself

  657. not like a

  658. a

  659. you know

  660. superhero

  661. coming down

  662. you know

  663. out of the sky

  664. and saying

  665. I'm here

  666. it's me

  667. but he's cryptic

  668. about it

  669. he comes

  670. specifically

  671. to specific people

  672. and

  673. he reveals himself

  674. in ways

  675. that they would

  676. understand

  677. they recognize

  678. the way he broke

  679. the bread

  680. and blessed it

  681. something was different

  682. about him

  683. and

  684. not only that

  685. but he was

  686. on this earth

  687. alive for 40 days

  688. teaching

  689. and revealing himself

  690. all the more

  691. this really happened

  692. sometimes we can think

  693. this is a

  694. this is an idle tale

  695. ourselves

  696. okay

  697. it was long ago

  698. but still as true

  699. and as new

  700. then

  701. as it is

  702. today

  703. for us

  704. okay

  705. spiritually speaking

  706. Christ is dwelling

  707. with us

  708. by his spirit

  709. man how I would

  710. love to

  711. be taught

  712. by him

  713. for 40 days

  714. post resurrection

  715. but Jesus said

  716. it's better

  717. that I go

  718. and send you

  719. to the spirit

  720. to teach you

  721. bring to remembrance

  722. all the things

  723. that I taught

  724. and then all that

  725. will be brought

  726. one day

  727. in the end

  728. so

  729. how

  730. how do we

  731. reckon

  732. with all these

  733. things

  734. how do we

  735. as a church

  736. say

  737. Lord

  738. what does

  739. what does

  740. the power

  741. of your resurrection

  742. mean

  743. on our lives

  744. this is what

  745. Paul said

  746. that I might

  747. know him

  748. and the power

  749. of his resurrection

  750. Christ

  751. church

  752. do we have

  753. faith that

  754. that not only

  755. will God

  756. destroy death

  757. for us

  758. for that one

  759. day

  760. whatever

  761. sufferings

  762. we endure

  763. will be

  764. for the glory

  765. of God

  766. and ultimately

  767. at the end

  768. will be worth

  769. it

  770. every single

  771. sacrifice

  772. every single

  773. cross that we

  774. bear

  775. will be worth

  776. it

  777. okay

  778. let's not lose

  779. hope in the

  780. small areas

  781. that we

  782. sacrifice

  783. but realize

  784. that Christ

  785. was the one

  786. who led

  787. an example

  788. and did not

  789. fail

  790. he lived

  791. a perfect

  792. life

  793. a sinless

  794. life

  795. never once

  796. did he sin

  797. and he was

  798. crucified

  799. in weakness

  800. but the scripture

  801. says he was

  802. but he lives

  803. by the power

  804. of God

  805. amen

  806. where we at

  807. I have two

  808. points

  809. I was thinking

  810. about three

  811. but I'm like

  812. God

  813. do that

  814. two

  815. resurrection

  816. points

  817. in light

  818. of Jesus

  819. rising from

  820. the dead

  821. number one

  822. I was thinking

  823. about

  824. and praying

  825. about our

  826. church

  827. and just

  828. thinking about

  829. Lord how

  830. would you

  831. have us

  832. think about

  833. the concrete

  834. and

  835. undissolvable

  836. truth that you

  837. rose

  838. I came up

  839. with two

  840. things

  841. number one

  842. we lack

  843. nothing

  844. we lack

  845. nothing

  846. Romans 8

  847. 31-32

  848. what then

  849. shall we say

  850. to these

  851. things

  852. if God

  853. is for us

  854. who can

  855. be against

  856. us

  857. he who

  858. did not

  859. spare his

  860. own son

  861. but gave

  862. him up

  863. for us

  864. all

  865. how will

  866. he not

  867. also

  868. with him

  869. graciously

  870. give us

  871. all things

  872. what are the

  873. things in your

  874. heart that you

  875. more regularly

  876. tell yourself

  877. you don't

  878. have

  879. what are

  880. they

  881. Christ

  882. church

  883. what are

  884. the things

  885. that you

  886. say

  887. that you're

  888. constantly

  889. saying I

  890. need this

  891. I need

  892. this

  893. I'm not

  894. whole

  895. until I

  896. have

  897. this

  898. what are

  899. the things

  900. what are

  901. the little

  902. things in

  903. relationships

  904. that you

  905. desperately

  906. envy and

  907. want

  908. what are

  909. the things

  910. that unsettle

  911. you

  912. what are

  913. the things

  914. that the

  915. world promises

  916. that say

  917. you must

  918. have this

  919. when the

  920. truth is in

  921. Christ we

  922. lack

  923. nothing

  924. we lack

  925. nothing

  926. God has

  927. given us

  928. everything in

  929. Christ

  930. God has

  931. given us

  932. Jesus

  933. he's given

  934. us himself

  935. and we

  936. lack

  937. nothing

  938. Christ is

  939. enough for

  940. you right

  941. now

  942. apart from

  943. all the

  944. things that

  945. are your

  946. wants

  947. and desires

  948. although they

  949. might not be

  950. bad

  951. but the

  952. truth is

  953. do you

  954. believe that

  955. Christ is

  956. enough for

  957. you right

  958. now

  959. he is

  960. he is

  961. enough for

  962. you presently

  963. and if

  964. any

  965. if any

  966. of you

  967. have a

  968. lingering

  969. feeling

  970. that goes

  971. something like

  972. this

  973. like I'll

  974. come to

  975. God

  976. when X

  977. Y and Z

  978. happen

  979. or I'll

  980. come to

  981. God

  982. once I'm

  983. ready

  984. or I'll

  985. come to

  986. God

  987. insert your

  988. own thing

  989. that hinders

  990. you

  991. remember that

  992. the veil was

  993. torn on

  994. purpose

  995. okay

  996. outside of

  997. you doing

  998. anything to

  999. bridge the

  1000. separation

  1001. God tore

  1002. that veil

  1003. and today

  1004. you can

  1005. come to

  1006. Jesus

  1007. presently

  1008. okay

  1009. that's

  1010. point number

  1011. one

  1012. we lack

  1013. nothing

  1014. point number

  1015. two

  1016. resurrected

  1017. identity

  1018. I think

  1019. identity is

  1020. a crucial

  1021. thing

  1022. if we

  1023. are in

  1024. Christ

  1025. then we

  1026. have to

  1027. know who

  1028. we are

  1029. we have

  1030. to know

  1031. who we

  1032. are

  1033. and Christ

  1034. has made

  1035. us sons

  1036. through his

  1037. resurrection

  1038. resurrected

  1039. identity

  1040. Romans 6

  1041. tells us

  1042. that our

  1043. old self

  1044. was buried

  1045. with Christ

  1046. as he died

  1047. was buried

  1048. into the

  1049. ground

  1050. into death

  1051. so that we

  1052. would also be

  1053. raised with

  1054. him to walk

  1055. in newness

  1056. of life

  1057. although we

  1058. wrestle with

  1059. our old

  1060. passions

  1061. our faults

  1062. and foibles

  1063. the Bible

  1064. says that our

  1065. old self

  1066. has died

  1067. do you

  1068. reckon your

  1069. old self

  1070. dead

  1071. in that

  1072. respect

  1073. all the

  1074. things that

  1075. presently

  1076. aggravate you

  1077. about yourself

  1078. about others

  1079. the old

  1080. self has

  1081. been crucified

  1082. with Christ

  1083. Romans 6

  1084. says

  1085. so that we

  1086. might walk

  1087. in newness

  1088. of life

  1089. resurrected

  1090. identity

  1091. do you know

  1092. who you are

  1093. in Christ

  1094. I was listening

  1095. to Tim Keller

  1096. talk and he

  1097. was

  1098. talking about

  1099. why

  1100. did Jesus

  1101. with Mary

  1102. reveal

  1103. himself

  1104. the way

  1105. that he

  1106. did

  1107. you guys

  1108. can recount

  1109. when he's

  1110. talking with

  1111. Mary

  1112. he's the

  1113. gardener

  1114. you know

  1115. or whatever

  1116. and

  1117. you know

  1118. Tim Keller

  1119. is like

  1120. why didn't

  1121. Jesus

  1122. just be like

  1123. it's me

  1124. it's me

  1125. but all

  1126. we have

  1127. is that he

  1128. just said

  1129. her name

  1130. and her eyes

  1131. were open

  1132. he said

  1133. Mary

  1134. and

  1135. what about

  1136. that

  1137. did it

  1138. for them

  1139. I think

  1140. it's similar

  1141. to actually

  1142. how he revealed

  1143. himself to his

  1144. disciples

  1145. they didn't

  1146. recognize him

  1147. because they

  1148. saw his wounds

  1149. first

  1150. they recognized

  1151. him because

  1152. of the way

  1153. that he lifted

  1154. up the cup

  1155. and the bread

  1156. that he blessed

  1157. it

  1158. something about

  1159. him

  1160. showed them

  1161. something about

  1162. their self

  1163. and what I

  1164. mean is this

  1165. there's one

  1166. person who

  1167. had a quote

  1168. that said

  1169. all of my

  1170. life

  1171. I have been

  1172. a bell

  1173. all of my

  1174. life I have

  1175. been a bell

  1176. and not

  1177. known it

  1178. until I was

  1179. lifted up

  1180. and rung

  1181. okay so

  1182. what that

  1183. means

  1184. and Tim Keller

  1185. talks about this

  1186. is basically

  1187. that

  1188. when Jesus

  1189. reveals himself

  1190. to Mary

  1191. he says

  1192. Mary

  1193. Mary knew

  1194. that the only

  1195. person

  1196. who could

  1197. know her

  1198. like that

  1199. however that

  1200. was

  1201. was the

  1202. Lord himself

  1203. that he

  1204. called her

  1205. by name

  1206. and she knew

  1207. this must

  1208. be the Lord

  1209. okay

  1210. when Christ

  1211. rose from

  1212. the dead

  1213. not only

  1214. did he

  1215. stamp on

  1216. his own

  1217. name

  1218. who he was

  1219. as the

  1220. divine king

  1221. prophet

  1222. and priest

  1223. but he

  1224. also

  1225. called us

  1226. who we

  1227. truly are

  1228. where does

  1229. where does

  1230. Christ call

  1231. your name

  1232. where does

  1233. where does

  1234. Christ

  1235. call Judah

  1236. and Samir

  1237. and Amber

  1238. you know

  1239. where does

  1240. Christ say

  1241. to us

  1242. our own

  1243. names

  1244. so that

  1245. we're

  1246. finally

  1247. known

  1248. I believe

  1249. that Christ

  1250. reveals us

  1251. in this

  1252. precious way

  1253. that makes

  1254. us say

  1255. in our

  1256. heart of hearts

  1257. in our souls

  1258. we lack

  1259. nothing

  1260. and

  1261. we will

  1262. follow after

  1263. the Lord

  1264. at whatever

  1265. cost

  1266. because he's

  1267. given everything

  1268. for us

  1269. so

  1270. we lack

  1271. nothing

  1272. and

  1273. let us

  1274. lay to

  1275. heart

  1276. our new

  1277. identity

  1278. in Christ

  1279. if you

  1280. feel

  1281. unsure

  1282. about your

  1283. identity

  1284. in Christ

  1285. or who

  1286. you are

  1287. in him

  1288. Christ

  1289. wants to

  1290. make you

  1291. sure

  1292. he wants

  1293. to make

  1294. you sure

  1295. he wants

  1296. to give

  1297. you a

  1298. revelation

  1299. of his

  1300. love

  1301. that isn't

  1302. whimsical

  1303. isn't

  1304. fading

  1305. but it's

  1306. it's

  1307. constant

  1308. that you

  1309. know it's

  1310. always there

  1311. that's kept

  1312. in heaven

  1313. until the

  1314. last day

  1315. okay I'm

  1316. going to

  1317. close with

  1318. this verse

  1319. I'm going to

  1320. close with

  1321. this verse

  1322. in Revelation

  1323. 21

  1324. that happened

  1325. long ago

  1326. Jesus rose

  1327. long ago

  1328. but

  1329. the

  1330. reality

  1331. of us

  1332. being

  1333. raised

  1334. and

  1335. the

  1336. Bible

  1337. says

  1338. that we'll

  1339. get new

  1340. bodies

  1341. in the

  1342. resurrection

  1343. that reality

  1344. will happen

  1345. when he

  1346. comes again

  1347. and Revelation

  1348. 21

  1349. will

  1350. I think

  1351. describes this

  1352. and even

  1353. that picture

  1354. of the veil

  1355. being torn

  1356. God's dwelling

  1357. place actually

  1358. going out

  1359. from the

  1360. holy of

  1361. holies

  1362. and being

  1363. with man

  1364. you can really

  1365. see here

  1366. I was actually

  1367. reading this

  1368. and tearing

  1369. up

  1370. in longing

  1371. yesterday

  1372. for this

  1373. day

  1374. Revelation

    Revelation 21:3–4

  1375. 21

  1376. verse 3

  1377. to 4

  1378. and I

  1379. saw the

  1380. holy city

  1381. new

  1382. Jerusalem

  1383. coming down

  1384. out of

  1385. heaven

  1386. from God

  1387. prepared

  1388. as a

  1389. bride

  1390. adorned

  1391. for her

  1392. husband

  1393. and I

  1394. heard a

  1395. loud voice

  1396. from the

  1397. throne

  1398. saying

  1399. behold

  1400. the dwelling

  1401. place of

  1402. God

  1403. is with

  1404. man

  1405. he will

  1406. dwell

  1407. with them

  1408. and they

  1409. will be

  1410. his people

  1411. and God

  1412. himself

  1413. will be

  1414. with them

  1415. as their

  1416. God

  1417. he will

  1418. wipe away

  1419. every tear

  1420. from

  1421. their eyes

  1422. and death

  1423. shall be

  1424. no more

  1425. neither

  1426. shall there

  1427. be mourning

  1428. nor crying

  1429. nor pain

  1430. anymore

  1431. for the

  1432. former things

  1433. have passed

  1434. away

  1435. one day

  1436. God's

  1437. dwelling

  1438. place

  1439. will be

  1440. with man

  1441. in its

  1442. completion

  1443. isn't that

  1444. amazing

  1445. that was

  1446. inaugurated

  1447. when Jesus

  1448. rose

  1449. that veil

  1450. was torn

  1451. that was

  1452. the promise

  1453. one day

  1454. God will

  1455. dwell

  1456. with man

  1457. with no

  1458. veil

  1459. in its

  1460. totality

  1461. death

  1462. shall be

  1463. no more

  1464. okay

  1465. how does

  1466. that

  1467. fuel us

  1468. okay

  1469. how does

  1470. that

  1471. wake us

  1472. up in the

  1473. morning

  1474. how does

  1475. that

  1476. increase

  1477. our faith

  1478. and tell

  1479. other people

  1480. one day

  1481. death

  1482. shall be

  1483. no more

  1484. the most

  1485. sure thing

  1486. in this

  1487. life

  1488. other than

  1489. death

  1490. and taxes

  1491. you know

  1492. death

  1493. shall be

  1494. no more

  1495. neither

  1496. shall there

  1497. be mourning

  1498. nor crying

  1499. nor pain

  1500. anymore

  1501. for the

  1502. former things

  1503. have passed

  1504. away

  1505. believe this

  1506. Christ

  1507. church

  1508. take this

  1509. to the

  1510. bank

  1511. in your

  1512. daily

  1513. life

  1514. all this

  1515. because

  1516. Christ was

  1517. raised

  1518. amen

  1519. amen

  1520. a

  1521. ending

  1522. a

  1523. ending

  1524. ending

  1525. ending

  1526. ending

  1527. ending

  1528. ending

  1529. ending

  1530. ending

  1531. ending

  1532. ending
