  1. Okay, I'm going to talk tonight about the last topic.

  2. A man is a ruling leader.

  3. A man is a ruling leader.

  4. And I'm going to quote a lot of passages tonight, but I'm not going to ask you to turn to them.

  5. But I am going to ask you to turn to this one.

  6. This is Isaiah chapter 3.

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  7. So you're going to turn to Isaiah chapter 3, if you have a Bible.

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  8. We're going to read this together.

  9. Isaiah chapter 3, starting in verse 1.

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  10. We're going to read up through verse 12.

  11. Okay, Isaiah chapter 3, starting in verse 1.

    Isaiah 3 chapter mention

  12. For behold, the Lord God of hosts is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah support and supply.

  13. All support of bread and all support of water.

  14. The mighty man and the soldier.

  15. The judge and the prophet.

  16. The diviner and the elder.

  17. The captain of 50 and the man of rank.

  18. The counselor and the skillful magician.

  19. And the expert in charms.

  20. And I will make boys their princes.

  21. And infants shall rule over them.

  22. And the people will oppress one another.

  23. Everyone his fellow.

  24. And everyone his neighbor.

  25. And the youth will be insolent to the elder.

  26. And the despised to the honorable.

  27. For a man will take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying,

  28. You have a cloak.

  29. You shall be our leader.

  30. And this heap of ruins will be under your rule.

  31. And that day he will speak out, saying,

  32. I will not be a healer.

  33. In my house there is neither bread nor cloak.

  34. You shall not make me a leader of the people.

  35. For Jerusalem has stumbled.

  36. And Judah has fallen.

  37. Because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord.

  38. Defying his glorious presence.

  39. For the look on their faces bears witness against them.

  40. They proclaim their sin like Sodom.

  41. They do not hide it.

  42. Woe to them.

  43. For they have brought evil on themselves.

  44. Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them.

  45. For they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.

  46. Woe to the wicked.

  47. It shall be ill with him.

  48. For what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.

  49. My people.

  50. Infants are their oppressors.

  51. And women rule over them.

  52. Oh, my people.

  53. Your guides mislead you.

  54. And they have swallowed up the course of your paths.

  55. So there's a lot in that thing.

  56. But I think there's a few prominent themes.

  57. This is why I chose this for the opening.

  58. And one is that it illustrates that male leadership is God's normative.

  59. Okay?

  60. It's God's normative design.

  61. And when the people turned away from God and they rejected his rule, the judgment he sent on them is that women and children and rebellious youth would be their masters.

  62. Okay?

  63. And that's today.

  64. This is our entire society.

  65. This unfortunately has now even crept into the church.

  66. It's homes.

  67. And what it has to do, it's evidence of God's judgment.

  68. Okay?

  69. Male, godly male leadership from the beginning is God's normative design for ensuring his sovereign, healthy, safe rule over people.

  70. Okay?

  71. And the consequence is that when we reject God, the order gets flipped.

  72. And you think, you know, like, why is, you know, women ruling over them?

  73. Why is this a judgment?

  74. Like, women are supposed to be nicer than guys.

  75. You know?

  76. They're just nicer.

  77. That's the problem.

  78. Okay?

  79. The niceness of women, the immaturity of the youth, these are not protective attributes.

  80. Okay?

  81. God institutes male leadership for a reason.

  82. Yeah, I'm going to talk about that more here.

  83. But this is part of why I titled this message, Ruling Male Leadership.

  84. We were debating whether to call a man as a leader or a man as a ruler.

  85. Because really, people, everybody can lead.

  86. Okay?

  87. Women lead.

  88. There's ways that women lead.

  89. Children can lead.

  90. So, like, we can lead by example.

  91. You might have a gift of leadership.

  92. You don't have any real responsibility for leading.

  93. But people follow you because they like you and you set a good example.

  94. And you can lead people without having any responsibility for them.

  95. But that's different than what we're talking about.

  96. Ruling leadership has to do with responsibility.

  97. Okay?

  98. So, the Oxford definition.

  99. I looked this up on Google and it says the Oxford definition.

  100. So, I believe them.

  101. For leader.

  102. We'll give the definition for leader first.

  103. A leader is the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.

  104. And a ruler is a person exercising government or dominion.

  105. So, again, like leading, you know, these could be synonyms.

  106. We can use them as synonyms.

  107. But when you say leader, you know, we think a lot today of, like, servant leader or someone who just, you know, leads by example, like I was saying.

  108. But I want to hone in on the ruling aspect because, you know, leading can be by example without authority or responsibility.

  109. Ruling includes command, authority, and responsibility for outcomes of the thing that is within your charge.

  110. And I think this is really what we're trying to communicate here.

  111. When we're talking about man as a leader, it's this responsibility-based leadership that involves authority.

  112. Michael Foster says responsibility and authority are inextricably linked.

  113. Authority without responsibility is tyranny.

  114. Responsibility without authority is slavery.

  115. There is no responsibility to lead without authority to back it up.

  116. Okay?

  117. And God has given each one of us a charge that we have a responsibility for, and therefore we have authority to rule over it.

  118. Okay?

  119. Man was created as a ruling leader.

  120. And this is, you know, this is all throughout the Bible.

  121. And this is everything.

  122. The difficulty with this sermon, I spent most of my time just trying to pull things out so I could get it into, like, a time slot here.

  123. So this is everywhere.

  124. The parable of the minas in Luke 19, 11 through 27, there's a great illustration of this.

  125. You have a king.

  126. He leads.

  127. His people hate him.

  128. And he delegates rule to servants.

  129. And they have a certain amount of responsibility allocated to each one.

  130. And when he comes back, he requires an accounting of it.

  131. And there were guys who were faithful with it, and they were given much.

  132. And there was a guy who was unfaithful with it.

  133. And his end was the same as the people who hated him.

  134. Okay?

  135. Just an example.

  136. So where do we see this principle in the Bible?

  137. Ruling male leadership in the Bible.

  138. Number one, it came with the created order.

  139. Man was created first.

  140. 1 Timothy 2, 13 says,

  141. David Pawson says on the commentary on this verse from the book Leadership is Male.

  142. Woman was made after man.

  143. His priority in time has other implications.

  144. The firstborn carries responsibility for and authority over later rivals, as Paul indicates.

  145. So, man was made first.

  146. And Paul derives an implication from this fact.

  147. And it has to do with authority.

  148. He said, woman should not have authority over a man because the man was created first.

  149. There's a lot more.

  150. Number two, God made man for dominion with man leading and woman helping.

  151. We get this from Genesis 1, 26.

  152. Man was created for dominion.

  153. This has to do with our creative purpose as mankind.

  154. Okay?

  155. So, this is mankind he's speaking of.

  156. Genesis 1, 26.

  157. Then God said,

  158. Let us make man in our image after our likeness.

  159. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens

  160. and over the livestock and over all the earth

  161. and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

  162. So, mankind was made for dominion.

  163. And then woman was created as helper for the man from man.

  164. Genesis 2, 18 says,

  165. Then the Lord God said,

  166. It is not good that the man should be alone.

  167. I will make him a helper fit for him.

  168. And Genesis 2, 23 says,

  169. Then the man said, after he made Eve out of his rib,

  170. He says,

  171. This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.

  172. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man.

  173. And then in 1 Corinthians 11, 7-9 says,

  174. For a man ought not cover his head since he is the image and glory of God,

  175. but woman is the glory of man.

  176. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man.

  177. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

  178. So, David Pawson continues in his commentary on this theme.

  179. He said,

  180. Woman is made for man, and the reverse is not true.

  181. Her primary function is in relation to him.

  182. His was already established without reference to her.

  183. So, mankind was given a dominion mandate.

  184. The man's responsibility is to lead in accomplishing that.

  185. And the woman's responsibility, her orientation,

  186. is towards helping him accomplish that.

  187. So, we have a responsibility, men and women, to go take dominion.

  188. How are we supposed to do it?

  189. Man is supposed to lead.

  190. Woman is supposed to help.

  191. This is our created purpose.

  192. Number three, God made man as a head.

  193. When the Bible uses the word head,

  194. some have said it means source.

  195. I think the more accepted traditional interpretation of it is

  196. supreme, chief, prominent, authority.

  197. Okay, like the head of a nation is top dog.

  198. Okay?

  199. 1 Corinthians 11, 3 says,

  200. But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ,

  201. and the head of the woman is the man,

  202. and the head of Christ is God.

  203. So, we see here that there is a,

  204. there is a creational headship here.

  205. Okay?

  206. This has to do with like mankind and our created purpose.

  207. Christ is the head of man.

  208. Ontologically, man is the head of woman.

  209. And we see here this, this, you know,

  210. this divine order.

  211. Ephesians 5, 22 through 23 says,

  212. So now we see it zoomed in more.

  213. Husband-wife relationship.

  214. This has to do with a,

  215. like two actual people in space time.

  216. A man and his wife.

  217. Okay?

  218. This is not just,

  219. this is not big picture anymore.

  220. This is, you know, this is details.

  221. You know, this is me and my wife.

  222. Okay?

  223. What's my relation to my wife?

  224. I am her head.

  225. Okay?

  226. And she's my body.

  227. She's part of me.

  228. Amen.

  229. You know, no man ever hates his body,

  230. but nourishes and cherishes it,

  231. just like Christ does the church.

  232. So we're one.

  233. But we have a unique,

  234. we're not one as sort of like asexual,

  235. you know, role swapping.

  236. You know, you do the leading one day

  237. and I'll do the leading the other day.

  238. No, no, no.

  239. We have a very clear,

  240. like divinely ordained orientation

  241. and way of thinking about ourselves.

  242. The man's the head.

  243. He leads.

  244. The woman's the body.

  245. She helps.

  246. Doug Wilson calls this

  247. inescapable headship.

  248. And he says,

  249. if you are a husband,

  250. you are a head.

  251. You may be a poor one,

  252. but there is no escaping the position.

  253. Scriptures never tell husbands

  254. to become the head.

  255. The Bible tells us

  256. that the husband is a head.

  257. Like it or not,

  258. whether you steward the position

  259. ably or poorly,

  260. the fact of headship

  261. is unable to be destroyed

  262. or removed.

  263. It just is.

  264. So,

  265. by being a man,

  266. you are that.

  267. You can do a bad job at it

  268. or you can do a good job at it.

  269. You cannot escape

  270. the consequences of your actions.

  271. It just will happen.

  272. Okay?

  273. This has to do with society.

  274. It has to do with families.

  275. So, number four,

  276. headship includes

  277. a responsibility to rule.

  278. So, what are the implications

  279. of this truth?

  280. That starts in the home.

  281. The Bible says in Ephesians 5,

  282. 22 through 24,

  283. it says,

  284. we've read this already,

  285. wives,

  286. submit to your own husbands

  287. as to the Lord,

  288. for the husband is the head of the wife,

  289. even as Christ is the head of the church,

  290. his body,

  291. and is himself its Savior.

  292. Now,

  293. as the church submits to Christ,

  294. so also wives

  295. should submit

  296. in everything

  297. to their husbands.

  298. so there's an implication

  299. of headship.

  300. What is it?

  301. Submission.

  302. How much?

  303. Well,

  304. how much does the church

  305. obey Christ?

  306. He just says it.

  307. Now,

  308. as the church submits to Christ,

  309. so also wives

  310. should submit

  311. in everything

  312. to their husbands.

  313. Genesis 3,

  314. 16,

  315. this goes back to the curse,

  316. to the woman,

  317. he said,

  318. I will surely multiply

  319. your pain and childbearing,

  320. and pain you shall bring forth children.

  321. Your desire shall be contrary

  322. to your husband,

  323. but he shall rule over you.

  324. Now,

  325. I've heard some people say that,

  326. okay,

  327. the whole male headship thing,

  328. the husband having authority

  329. with the wife,

  330. that was a result

  331. of the fall.

  332. But that's not actually true.

  333. This instituted,

  334. you know,

  335. this whole headship thing

  336. was instituted

  337. at the beginning.

  338. The difference is,

  339. now she has desires

  340. that are contrary

  341. to the husband.

  342. Okay?

  343. Sin came in,

  344. and now where there was

  345. marital unity,

  346. agreement,

  347. felicity,

  348. now there is

  349. tension.

  350. Now there's struggle.

  351. But it doesn't change

  352. God's divine ordinance

  353. that because the man's the head,

  354. she has to submit to him.

  355. 1 Timothy 4,

  356. 1 Timothy 3,

    1 Timothy 3:4–5

  357. verses 4 through 5,

  358. says an elder,

  359. speaking of an elder,

  360. qualifications of elder,

  361. he must be one

  362. who rules his own house well,

  363. having his children

  364. in submission

  365. with all reverence

  366. for if a man does not know

  367. how to rule his own house,

  368. how we take care

  369. of the church of God.

  370. So we see here,

  371. it starts in the home.

  372. There's a biblical priority

  373. for the home.

  374. You can't be a leader

  375. in the church

  376. if you don't know

  377. how to do it

  378. in your family

  379. because you just,

  380. whatever you do,

  381. that's what you do.

  382. You know,

  383. wherever you go,

  384. there you are.

  385. How you lead your family

  386. is how you would lead

  387. the church.

  388. And so,

  389. you know,

  390. do that job first

  391. is essentially

  392. what he's saying.

  393. Old Testament law,

  394. there's a couple

  395. of interesting things

  396. in Numbers 30.

  397. Speaking of this authority

  398. in verses 3 through 5

  399. in verse 16

  400. speaks of,

  401. I'm not going to read

  402. the whole passage,

  403. but basically,

  404. it speaks of this dynamic

  405. where if a daughter

  406. who's unmarried,

  407. who's living

  408. in her father's home,

  409. makes a rash vow,

  410. and you know,

  411. the vows are taken

  412. very seriously,

  413. it's a vow to the Lord,

  414. and the father

  415. hears about it,

  416. he can overrule it,

  417. and it says,

  418. God will forgive her.

  419. Which is just amazing.

  420. She made this vow

  421. as an individual

  422. who has agency

  423. and responsibility

  424. for a living God,

  425. and this man

  426. overrules it,

  427. and God says,

  428. okay,

  429. yes,

  430. I'll forgive her.

  431. She's cleared

  432. of her responsibility.

  433. And not only is it

  434. for the daughter,

  435. it's for the wife too.

  436. It says,

  437. it goes on to speak

  438. of a situation

  439. where if the wife

  440. makes a rash vow

  441. and the husband

  442. hears of it,

  443. and he overrules it,

  444. God will forgive her.

  445. But if he hears about it

  446. and he doesn't do

  447. anything about it,

  448. she'll be held responsible.

  449. So the agency

  450. is in the person

  451. who's head,

  452. which is the man.

  453. So,

  454. I mean,

  455. basically,

  456. it boils down to

  457. the first principle

  458. is the husband

  459. has ruling

  460. leadership responsibility

  461. in the home

  462. and God backs it up.

  463. Even when

  464. the woman

  465. in the situation

  466. makes a vow

  467. directly

  468. before God,

  469. which is very interesting.

  470. Two,

  471. second category,

  472. the church,

  473. 1 Corinthians 14,

    1 Corinthians 14:34–35

  474. verse 34 through 35,

  475. says,

  476. the women should keep silent

  477. in the churches,

  478. for they are not permitted

  479. to speak,

  480. but should be in submission,

  481. as the law also says.

  482. If there is anything

  483. they desire to learn,

  484. let them ask their husbands

  485. at home,

  486. for it is shameful

  487. for a woman

  488. to speak in church.

  489. 1 Timothy 2, 13,

  490. we already read this,

  491. we'll read it again.

  492. I do not permit a woman

  493. to teach

  494. or to exercise authority

  495. over a man,

  496. rather she is to remain quiet,

  497. for Adam is formed first

  498. and then Eve,

  499. and then Titus 1,

    Titus 1:5–6

  500. verses 5 through 6.

  501. For this reason,

  502. I left you in Crete

  503. that you would set in order

  504. what remains

  505. and appoint elders

  506. in every city

  507. as I directed you.

  508. Namely,

  509. if any man

  510. is above reproach,

  511. the husband of one wife,

  512. having children who believe,

  513. not accused of dissipation

  514. or rebellion.

  515. So we have two things here.

  516. One is,

  517. women are not allowed

  518. to lead in the church,

  519. and two,

  520. a man must lead in the church.

  521. It's very simple.

  522. God has ordained men

  523. to the office of eldership

  524. in a ruling,

  525. leading capacity

  526. in the church.

  527. There's,

  528. you know,

  529. if we look at the Old Testament,

  530. this principle is upheld

  531. all the way through

  532. the Old Testament.

  533. Elders,

  534. priests,

  535. authors of Scripture,

  536. all men.

  537. In the New Testament,

  538. elders,

  539. apostles,

  540. the 12 disciples,

  541. even the seven table ministers

  542. in the Book of Acts,

  543. you know,

  544. who are,

  545. they just have the job

  546. of just taking care

  547. of the widows

  548. and dispensing food.

  549. What were the requirements?

  550. Men,

  551. full of the Holy Spirit.

  552. And then all the authors

  553. of the Scripture,

  554. every single author

  555. of the Scripture,

  556. Old Testament,

  557. New Testament.

  558. We do have a prophecy

  559. in Proverbs 31

  560. that King Lemuel's mother

  561. taught him,

  562. but he still had

  563. the responsibility

  564. of being the one

  565. who wrote it down

  566. and put it in the canon.

  567. So,

  568. this principle is all the way

  569. throughout Scripture.

  570. What do we take away?

  571. Men rule in the church.

  572. God has ordained men

  573. to rule and exercise

  574. leadership in the church.

  575. Last one,

  576. society.

  577. Isaiah 3,

    Isaiah 3:1–12

  578. verses 1 through 12,

  579. we already read that.

  580. This principle is more

  581. illustrative,

  582. okay,

  583. but that God's normative

  584. order is male rule

  585. over a nation,

  586. with women and children

  587. rule being evidence

  588. of judgment

  589. for rebellion against God.

  590. 2 Chronicles 7,

  591. 18 says,

  592. this is,

  593. he's speaking to Solomon,

  594. then I will establish

  595. your royal throne

  596. as I covenanted

  597. with your father David,

  598. saying,

  599. you shall not lack

  600. a man to be ruler

  601. in Israel.

  602. This,

  603. this principle is upheld

  604. all throughout

  605. the Old Testament.

  606. And when we have these,

  607. you know,

  608. these priest kings

  609. and we have,

  610. you know,

  611. God choosing rulers,

  612. the normative example

  613. is,

  614. you know,

  615. the patriarchs,

  616. 12 tribes,

  617. you know,

  618. the leaders of the 12 tribes,

  619. judges,

  620. except for Deborah,

  621. which notably,

  622. she refused to go

  623. into battle.

  624. She wanted Baruch to go

  625. and he refused.

  626. He chickened out.

  627. He's like,

  628. you have to go with me.

  629. She's like,

  630. all right,

  631. that honor's not going

  632. to be for you though.

  633. She was deferring.

  634. This is a very feminine way

  635. of holding leadership

  636. is out of respect

  637. and the fear of God

  638. and the office

  639. that he has ordained

  640. for his glory,

  641. I'm not going to go

  642. do that job.

  643. You had to have a guy

  644. who's a coward

  645. to kind of make her do it,

  646. you know.

  647. So,

  648. you know,

  649. this is an exception

  650. that proves the rule.

  651. Kings,

  652. all the kings,

  653. okay,

  654. good ones and bad ones

  655. and the only queen

  656. who ruled

  657. was the evil queen,

  658. Athaliah,

  659. okay,

  660. all the elders,

  661. all men.

  662. So,

  663. this illustrative principle,

  664. God's ordained norm

  665. is male leadership.

  666. So,

  667. I just want to make

  668. a quick note

  669. on complementarianism.

  670. I pulled this

  671. from Josh's notes

  672. on this topic.

  673. He said,

  674. complementarianism says

  675. that men and women

  676. are equal in value

  677. and have distinct roles

  678. only in the home

  679. and the church.

  680. Not sure how familiar

  681. you guys are

  682. with that term.

  683. We are complementarianism,

  684. but we are complementarian.

  685. We're not complementarianism.

  686. We believe in complementarianism.

  687. But we do,

  688. we do have some refinements

  689. as we're speaking of here.

  690. It says that

  691. they are equal in value

  692. and have distinct roles

  693. only in the home

  694. and the church.

  695. Outside of church

  696. and home,

  697. a man and woman

  698. are equal in role as well.

  699. That's what complementarianism says.

  700. Okay?

  701. He continues,

  702. complementarianism

  703. doesn't go far enough

  704. and it's intellectually inconsistent.

  705. If gender roles

  706. are rooted in creation,

  707. then it makes no sense

  708. to limit them

  709. to church and home.

  710. Since gender roles

  711. are rooted in creation

  712. and the very nature

  713. of men and women,

  714. they apply everywhere,

  715. not just in church and home.

  716. Zachary Geras says,

  717. the attempt to limit gender roles

  718. to the home and the church

  719. is dualistic

  720. in that it pits the religious

  721. against the secular.

  722. But God designed men

  723. to be men in all of life

  724. and he's designed women

  725. to be women in all of life

  726. in the home

  727. and church

  728. and in society.

  729. Women do not get to act like,

  730. women do not get to act like men

  731. just because they stepped

  732. outside of the home

  733. into broader society.

  734. A woman takes her womanly nature

  735. with her

  736. wherever she goes

  737. and a man takes his manly nature

  738. with him

  739. wherever he goes.

  740. End quote.

  741. So,

  742. the point being,

  743. Genesis teaches that men and women

  744. are equal in value

  745. and have distinct nature

  746. and roles

  747. everywhere.

  748. Okay?

  749. This is more than just Genesis.

  750. This is the story arc

  751. of the Bible.

  752. Okay?

  753. You just are

  754. a thing

  755. that is you.

  756. Okay?

  757. If you're a man,

  758. you're a man.

  759. And you're always a man.

  760. You're a man.

  761. Whatever you do,

  762. there you are,

  763. you're a man.

  764. Well,

  765. it's the same with women.

  766. If you're a woman,

  767. you carry your womanly,

  768. God-given,

  769. unique attributes with you

  770. wherever you go.

  771. So,

  772. we hold to what the Bible teaches

  773. on this

  774. and we do use the term

  775. complementarianism

  776. to emphasize

  777. the interdependence

  778. and indispensability

  779. of both sexes.

  780. You see this in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 11:11

  781. 11,

  782. verse 11,

  783. 11,

  784. verse 11 and 12

  785. when it speaks of

  786. the man is not separate

  787. from the woman

  788. in the Lord.

  789. Okay?

  790. Because the woman,

  791. the man comes from the woman

  792. and the woman from the man.

  793. And there's this interdependence,

  794. equal value,

  795. distinct roles,

  796. and distinct nature.

  797. When I'm speaking here,

  798. the point is,

  799. man,

  800. as part of his distinct nature,

  801. has with it

  802. an inherent responsibility

  803. to exercise authority and rule

  804. over the sphere of responsibility

  805. that God has given him

  806. that he will give an account for

  807. on the day of judgment.

  808. And he who is faithful with little

  809. will be faithful with much.

  810. He who is unfaithful with little

  811. will be unfaithful with much.

  812. But he's calling us to be faithful.

  813. Okay?

  814. So,

  815. last one.

  816. Number five,

  817. this Bible speaks of the sober weight

  818. of leadership responsibility.

  819. Hebrews 13, 17 says,

  820. Obey those who rule over you

  821. and be submissive,

  822. for they watch out for your souls

  823. as those who must give account.

  824. Going to give an account to God.

  825. Let them do so with joy

  826. and not with grief,

  827. for that would be unprofitable for you.

  828. And again,

  829. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 4,

    1 Corinthians 4:1–2

  830. verses 1 through 2,

  831. Let a man regard us in this manner

  832. as servants of Christ

  833. and stewards of the mysteries of God.

  834. In this case, moreover,

  835. it is required of stewards

  836. that one be found trustworthy.

  837. So, this might sound just kind of like a hoorah,

  838. a man rule,

  839. you know,

  840. just, you know,

  841. super macho,

  842. do whatever I want.

  843. We're going to give an account to God.

  844. The litmus test is Jesus Christ.

  845. He is the ruler.

  846. And the plumb line is Jesus Christ himself.

  847. Okay?

  848. The man says he's in Christ.

  849. He ought to walk as Jesus walked.

  850. And we're going to give an account.

  851. Okay, so we'll give some reasons.

  852. 16 reasons why men abdicate their responsibility

  853. to lead and rule.

  854. This is by no means comprehensive.

  855. These are just the things I can think of.

  856. Number one is ignorance.

  857. You don't know.

  858. Okay?

  859. You don't know the Bible.

  860. Maybe you had a bad example.

  861. Maybe you didn't have a dad who led very well.

  862. Maybe you had pastors who didn't lead well.

  863. Okay?

  864. You just don't know.

  865. Or maybe you had bad teaching.

  866. Maybe people taught the Bible,

  867. but they, you know,

  868. diced it all up

  869. and did some gymnastics with these verses.

  870. You know,

  871. these kind of more on-the-nose verses

  872. and just kind of undermined the truth

  873. that you're required to leave.

  874. You're a guy and you're required to leave.

  875. So, maybe you're just ignorant.

  876. Number two,

  877. rebelling to God's word.

  878. Maybe you do know what the Bible says

  879. and you just don't want to do it.

  880. Okay?

  881. Maybe you're rebelling against God.

  882. A lot of people do that.

  883. Number three,

  884. selfish love of comfort.

  885. I think this is a huge one.

  886. You know,

  887. you don't want to rebel against God's word,

  888. but you kind of don't want to have a hard time more.

  889. And you know

  890. that if you do what's right,

  891. you're going to have a less comfortable life.

  892. Number four,

  893. related to this,

  894. is fear of conflict.

  895. This is a whole like,

  896. happy wife,

  897. happy life sort of deal.

  898. You know,

  899. appeasing your kids.

  900. You know,

  901. they're throwing a fit,

  902. give them some candy.

  903. You know,

  904. your wife,

  905. you know,

  906. you know that it,

  907. I know we shouldn't do that.

  908. She really wants to do that.

  909. But,

  910. happy wife.

  911. You know,

  912. fear of conflict.

  913. Number five,

  914. waiting for consensus.

  915. I think this is a huge one.

  916. You know what you got to do.

  917. You try to move people towards it,

  918. but you're going to wait until everybody agrees.

  919. Jesus is the example.

  920. Like,

  921. go through the Bible,

  922. look at the number of times Jesus waited for consensus.

  923. Number six,

  924. this is also related to the waiting for consensus thing,

  925. is sometimes we want to,

  926. we want leading by example to be enough.

  927. If I just do the right thing,

  928. surely,

  929. you know,

  930. look at the end,

  931. right?

  932. It's not enough.

  933. Adam,

  934. I think Adam was a good example of how this is not enough.

  935. He led,

  936. you could argue that he led by example in the garden.

  937. He wasn't eating it.

  938. Until she did,

  939. and then she handed it to him,

  940. because he was right there watching her,

  941. had this conversation with the devil,

  942. and leading by example.

  943. It's not enough.

  944. Number seven,

  945. they think that servant leadership is more Christ-like

  946. than exercising godly authority.

  947. Okay,

  948. there's a lot that's been said about servant leadership.

  949. It comes from the Bible.

  950. Okay,

  951. Jesus is the one who came up with servant leadership.

  952. And it's good.

  953. But,

  954. there's a twisted version of servant leadership

  955. that says you lead by serving.

  956. That is not true.

  957. Okay,

  958. that's just not true.

  959. You serve by leading.

  960. Okay,

  961. you serve by leading.

  962. Part of leading is getting in there

  963. and doing the unpleasant things

  964. that no one wants to do.

  965. Amen.

  966. Serve away.

  967. Send an example to people.

  968. But,

  969. the modern version of servant leadership

  970. that's so commonly taught in the church

  971. is,

  972. is under,

  973. it's basically,

  974. it hates,

  975. it hates authority.

  976. It hates standing up and saying,

  977. no,

  978. so the Bible says,

  979. I'm sorry,

  980. you know,

  981. like Joshua,

  982. as for me and my house,

  983. we will serve the Lord.

  984. We are going this direction.

  985. That is true servant leadership.

  986. It's unpleasant.

  987. You're taking an unpleasant stance

  988. because God said so.

  989. Anyway,

  990. number eight,

  991. fear of being seen as a toxic male.

  992. Okay?

  993. If I start doing what God calls me to do,

  994. you know,

  995. people are going to start calling me a toxic male.

  996. You know,

  997. well,

  998. Paul says in Galatians 1.10,

  999. if I seek to,

1000. if I seek the approval of men,

1001. I cannot be a servant of Christ.

  1002. Where's their orientation?

1003. They're oriented towards what people think.

1004. They're not oriented towards what God thinks.

  1005. Number nine,

  1006. fear of abusing authority.

1007. I think this is a legitimate fear.

  1008. Okay?

  1009. Okay?

  1010. I'm a sinner.

1011. I'm going to screw it up.

  1012. Okay?

  1013. That's a legitimate fear.

  1014. And there's,

  1015. there's answers for this,

1016. but I'm just going to keep moving through this list.

  1017. Lack of confidence.

  1018. I don't have what it takes.

  1019. Passivity.

  1020. I don't care.

  1021. Yeah,

  1022. but you know,

  1023. whatever.

  1024. I don't care.

  1025. Deception.

1026. Maybe you bought into the lie of feminism

1027. that equal value before God

  1028. means equal roles

  1029. and equal nature.

  1030. It does not.

  1031. It does not.

1032. Lack of the fear of God.

1033. We already kind of talked about that.

  1034. Acts 5,

  1035. 29,

  1036. the disciples said,

  1037. we should please God,

  1038. not men.

1039. And if we fear God,

1040. it's going to help us

1041. take some of these truths in the Bible

1042. just kind of straight up.

  1043. No chaser.

1044. I'm just going to believe what it says.

  1045. Not operating like that.

1046. But we have to fear God.

1047. You can't fear what people think.

1048. We have to fear God.

1049. Maybe you're compromised by sin.

  1050. Number 14,

  1051. Proverbs 31,

1052. 3 speaks of giving your strength to women.

  1053. Okay?

  1054. And there's a couple different ways

  1055. you can take that.

1056. But one is just essentially

  1057. you're compromised by sin.

1058. If you're compromised by sin,

1059. you're not going to have the confidence to leave you.

  1060. Sin saps your confidence.

1061. It yanks it right out.

  1062. It leaves you insecure.

  1063. Number 15,

  1064. again,

1065. reasons why men abdicate the responsibility

  1066. to lead and rule.

1067. No concern for the welfare of the sheep.

1068. Jesus said about the hired hands

  1069. in John 10

  1070. that they flee

1071. when they see the wolf coming.

  1072. Because they're in it

  1073. for themselves.

1074. They don't really care about the sheep.

1075. He says the good shepherd

1076. lays down his life for the sheep.

1077. He defends against the wolves.

1078. He's willing to sacrifice himself

  1079. for the good

  1080. of the sheep

  1081. who have been entrusted

  1082. to his care.

1083. because he actually loves them.

  1084. He's not in it

1085. to save his own skin.

  1086. He loves those sheep.

  1087. He doesn't care

1088. how aggressive it comes off

1089. if he's chasing this wolf off

1090. because he loves the sheep.

  1091. And the last one,

  1092. number 16,

  1093. because you've avoided

  1094. submitting to authority yourself.

  1095. Okay.

  1096. You can't lead

1097. if you won't be led.

  1098. There's a Roman centurion

1099. when he came up to Jesus,

  1100. and I can't remember

  1101. where this was,

1102. but he came up to Jesus,

  1103. and he basically said,

  1104. I'm a man under authority.

1105. And I say to such a one,

  1106. go,

  1107. and they go.

  1108. And Jesus is like,

  1109. man,

1110. I've never seen faith like this.

1111. And the whole point was,

  1112. he's like,

1113. you don't need to come with me

1114. to go heal this person.

1115. You can just say it,

  1116. and it'll happen.

  1117. Because he understood

  1118. divine authority.

  1119. He's a man under authority.

  1120. Therefore,

  1121. those under him

1122. have to do what he says

1123. because he's submitted to authority.

  1124. Okay.

  1125. They're obeying

1126. not his authority as a man.

  1127. They're obeying the authority

  1128. that's above him,

  1129. Caesar.

1130. That's why they obey him.

  1131. He's not a rogue.

  1132. He's under authority.

  1133. Therefore,

  1134. he has delegated authority.

  1135. It works the same.

  1136. Okay.

  1137. So,

  1138. if we can't submit

  1139. to authority ourselves,

  1140. we're in no place

  1141. to exercise authority,

  1142. really,

1143. in any area of our life.

  1144. It'll be sacked.

  1145. It's yanked out.

  1146. We're trying to stand

  1147. on our own authority

  1148. rather than God's authority.

  1149. Okay.

  1150. So,

  1151. those are some reasons

  1152. why men abdicate

  1153. the responsibility

  1154. to lead and rule.

  1155. So,

1156. now I'm going to give

  1157. just some exhortations.

  1158. Okay.

1159. These are just some practicals.

1160. We want to do this.

  1161. Let's just

  1162. start off with

  1163. number one.

  1164. We need to start

  1165. by calling

  1166. our

  1167. attitude

  1168. towards avoiding

  1169. responsibility,

  1170. Sid.

1171. We just need to call it Sid.

  1172. That's what it is.

  1173. It's sin.

  1174. He man says,

  1175. what is it?

  1176. James 4, 17 says,

  1177. therefore,

  1178. to one who knows

1179. the right thing to do

1180. and does not do it

  1181. to him it's sin.

  1182. I hope,

  1183. like,

  1184. just at least

  1185. some of these verses

  1186. have communicated

1187. that this is the right thing.

  1188. God wants this thing.

  1189. So,

1190. if you know God wants it

1191. and you don't do it,

  1192. it's sin.

  1193. So,

1194. we just got to start off

  1195. by calling it sin.

  1196. It's not like

  1197. avoidant tendencies

  1198. or, you know,

  1199. just a little insecure

  1200. or whatever.

  1201. No,

  1202. it's just sin.

  1203. I'm sinning against God

  1204. because he gave me

  1205. a responsibility

  1206. and I'm avoiding it.

  1207. We need to repent.

  1208. Number two,

1209. we need to submit to Christ.

1210. Jesus Christ is the leader

  1211. who enables you

1212. to lead like he does.

  1213. Colossians 2, 10 says,

  1214. in him,

  1215. meaning Christ,

1216. you have been made complete

1217. and he is the head

  1218. over all rule

  1219. and authority.

  1220. So,

1221. after we realize it's sin

1222. and we turn from it,

1223. we've got to be made complete.

  1224. Jesus is our head.

  1225. When we're connected

  1226. to Jesus through faith,

1227. we are complete in him

1228. and he is the head

1229. over all rule and authority

1230. and he gives us the grace

1231. to do what he's calling us

  1232. to do.

  1233. Okay.

  1234. Number three,

  1235. this is related,

1236. we need to get our confidence

  1237. from God.

  1238. Okay.

  1239. So,

1240. this speaks to just the,

  1241. the hold up

1242. of just lack of confidence,

1243. like how do I even,

  1244. I don't,

  1245. you know,

  1246. just,

1247. how do I do this?

  1248. God calls men weakness.

  1249. You know,

  1250. Paul says,

  1251. 2 Corinthians 12,

  1252. I think,

  1253. says,

1254. his power is made perfect

  1255. in weakness.

  1256. And you look,

  1257. just the,

1258. the story arc of scripture,

1259. guy after guy after guy

  1260. who calls,

1261. he calls in a state

  1262. of weakness

  1263. and not feeling like

1264. they can do the job.

  1265. Moses just like,

  1266. was obstinately refusing

1267. to do what God called him to do.

  1268. It,

1269. his power is made perfect

  1270. in weakness.

  1271. Gideon,

  1272. same deal.

  1273. It's not Jeremiah.

  1274. He says,

  1275. you know,

  1276. I'm just a youth.

  1277. I can't,

  1278. you know,

  1279. speak.

  1280. He's like,

  1281. don't say that.

  1282. Whatever I tell you,

  1283. say it.

  1284. All right.

  1285. It's God's power

  1286. perfected in our weakness.

  1287. It's actually good

1288. to just face that head on

  1289. and say,

  1290. I just don't know

  1291. how to do this.

  1292. But you're calling me

  1293. to do it.

1294. And he's going to give me

1295. the power to do it.

  1296. Number four,

  1297. start with yourself.

  1298. Discipline your body

1299. and make it obey God.

  1300. Proverbs 16,

  1301. 32 says,

1302. he who rules his spirit

  1303. is better than he

  1304. who takes the city.

  1305. We've been not given

  1306. a spirit of fear,

  1307. but power and love

  1308. and self-control.

  1309. The place to start

  1310. is you.

  1311. Okay?

  1312. We are to bring

  1313. our bodies

  1314. under the control

  1315. and rule

  1316. of Jesus Christ

  1317. through the Holy Spirit.

  1318. We're saying no

  1319. in our flesh.

  1320. No.

  1321. That is where

  1322. rule starts

  1323. is self-rule,

  1324. a self-ruled man.

1325. Not by your own strength,

  1326. but by the power

  1327. of the Holy Spirit.

  1328. Number five,

  1329. learn to be led.

  1330. Submit to God's

  1331. ordained authority

  1332. yourself.

  1333. And this looks like

  1334. a lot of things.

  1335. We have authority

  1336. all over.

  1337. If you're a kid

  1338. in your home,

  1339. like you boys

  1340. here in your homes,

  1341. you've got to

  1342. obey your parents.

  1343. Ephesians 6 speaks

  1344. of this.

  1345. Elders in the church,

  1346. Hebrews 13,

  1347. 17 speaks of this.

  1348. Your boss at work

  1349. and government authorities,

  1350. you know,

1351. Romans 13 speaks of this.

  1352. Ephesians speaks of this.

  1353. God,

  1354. like these are not

  1355. just kind of like,

  1356. God,

  1357. that's secular

  1358. and,

  1359. you know,

  1360. church is like

  1361. Jesus stuff,

  1362. but like my job,

  1363. you know.

  1364. No,

  1365. no,

  1366. no.

  1367. It's spiritual.

  1368. It's worship.

1369. To submit to your boss

1370. out of reverence for Christ

  1371. is worship

  1372. and it trains us

  1373. how to be led.

  1374. It's good.

  1375. So you can't call

1376. your wife to follow you

  1377. and,

  1378. and,

  1379. and,

  1380. and respect my authority.

  1381. If you don't respect

  1382. your boss,

  1383. like it's just,

  1384. that's just,

  1385. it's a total hypocrisy.

  1386. Show her,

  1387. you know.

  1388. I remember

1389. before we came to Bellicose,

1390. we spent a long season

  1391. not going to church,

  1392. being very rebellious

1393. and all that kind of stuff

  1394. and,

  1395. and I asked Julie,

  1396. like,

1397. what if we still plant a church?

  1398. You know.

  1399. And she was like,

  1400. I can't do that with you

  1401. until I see

  1402. that you are able

  1403. to submit

  1404. to other godly men

  1405. in church.

  1406. She's like,

  1407. hmm,

  1408. that's so hard.

  1409. She literally just never

1410. seen me submit to anybody.

  1411. It's just my way

  1412. or the highway.

  1413. Well,

  1414. it's just godless.

  1415. I mean,

  1416. it's hypocrisy.

  1417. I'm asking her

  1418. to submit to me

1419. and obey this Bible verse

  1420. and I will obey

1421. this Bible verse over here.

1422. So we've got to put off

  1423. all that.

  1424. We've got to say,

  1425. okay,

  1426. Lord,

  1427. where are the divinely

  1428. instituted authorities

  1429. of my life?

  1430. Help me start

  1431. by just obeying them

  1432. out of reverence

  1433. for Christ.

  1434. Okay,

  1435. number six,

  1436. related,

  1437. be led by fathers

  1438. in the church

  1439. who know you.

  1440. Not podcasters,

1441. not a Sunday morning pastor

  1442. who don't actually know,

  1443. doesn't actually know

1444. what your internet habits are.

  1445. Paul says

  1446. in 1 Corinthians 4.15,

  1447. he says,

  1448. For though you have

  1449. countless guides in Christ,

1450. you do not have many fathers.

1451. For I became your father

  1452. in Christ Jesus

  1453. through the gospel.

1454. So this has to do

  1455. with the subtype of,

  1456. or the subcategory

1457. of learning to be led first.

  1458. But God has ordained

  1459. spiritual fathers

  1460. in your life.

  1461. Like our fathers,

  1462. our earthly fathers,

  1463. you know,

  1464. have had,

  1465. you know,

  1466. various success rates

  1467. with executing

  1468. their earthly

  1469. responsibilities to death.

  1470. Okay?

  1471. At the very best,

  1472. they're sinners.

1473. And so they let us down,

  1474. right?

  1475. Well,

  1476. there's actually

1477. a spiritual version of this

  1478. that Paul talks about

  1479. right here.

  1480. It's spiritual fathers.

1481. Fathers for your new life,

  1482. your second birth.

1483. Ones who share the gospel to you

1484. and help you come to the Lord.

  1485. And they actually have

  1486. a responsibility

  1487. to make sure

1488. that when the last trump sounds,

  1489. that's a crown

  1490. for Jesus.

  1491. Okay?

  1492. It's like,

  1493. I have a responsibility

  1494. to my kids.

  1495. Spiritual fathers

  1496. have a responsibility

  1497. to their kids.

  1498. And he's exhorting them,

  1499. like,

1500. relate to me as a father.

  1501. Let me help you.

  1502. So we need that.

  1503. Number seven,

  1504. don't be mom's helper.

  1505. She's yours.

1506. I remember when Josh said this

  1507. years ago,

  1508. I was just like,

1509. it was like a revelation.

1510. It is just so easy

  1511. to be mom's helper.

1512. And that's just your orientation.

  1513. She's always got the to-do list.

1514. She's always got the things

  1515. we need to do.

  1516. She's got the schedule.

1517. She's got all the stuff

  1518. and these needs.

1519. I'm just kind of like,

  1520. all right,

  1521. what's most?

  1522. You know?

  1523. And,

  1524. like,

1525. making lists is not bad.

  1526. Like,

1527. all that stuff is good,

  1528. divinely ordered.

  1529. But the orientation

  1530. towards being mom's helper

  1531. is ungodly.

  1532. It's not good.

  1533. It's not in line

  1534. with her creative purpose.

1535. What was she made for?

  1536. To be your helper.

  1537. Now,

1538. when you stop being mom's helper

1539. and you don't have anything to do,

1540. that can actually be a good thing

  1541. because you realize

  1542. you just,

  1543. you actually haven't led.

  1544. You don't have a vision

  1545. bigger than your family.

  1546. You're just chasing the to-do list

1547. and you're being led by the mom.

  1548. That's bad.

  1549. You know,

1550. she starts to be you

  1551. like a child too,

  1552. by the way.

  1553. And this affects your,

  1554. your sex life.

  1555. Okay?

  1556. No woman wants to

  1557. date her son.

  1558. Okay?

  1559. That's weird.

1560. But you start turning into that

  1561. when your mom's helper.

  1562. It's not good.

  1563. Number eight,

  1564. rule your household.

1565. Love your wife by leading her.

1566. Love your kids by disciplining.

  1567. Nurture them.

  1568. Love your wife

  1569. by leading her.

1570. She needs to be led.

1571. Your kids need to be disciplined.

  1572. Okay?

1573. That's part of how you love them.

  1574. The Bible says,

  1575. whoever withholds the rod

  1576. hates his child.

  1577. It's hatred.

  1578. So love them

  1579. by disciplining them.

1580. When they do something wrong,

  1581. hey,

  1582. like God doesn't let

  1583. any sins lie.

  1584. Period.

  1585. You require

  1586. a total accounting.

  1587. Are you communicating

  1588. something different

  1589. about the character

  1590. and nature of God

  1591. in how you relate

  1592. to your kids' disobedience?

  1593. Number nine.

  1594. Okay,

  1595. I got a one here.

  1596. Number nine,

1597. be the pastor of your home.

1598. You need to know the Bible.

1599. You need to teach your wife

  1600. and kids.

1601. You need to disciple them.

  1602. Okay?

1603. You have a primary responsibility

  1604. to disciple your wife.

  1605. Okay,

1606. Titus 2 speaks of older women

  1607. teaching the younger women.

  1608. That's a supplemental ministry.

1609. That is not the primary ministry.

1610. Ephesians 5 speaks of Christ

  1611. washing the church

  1612. with the word

  1613. as the model

1614. for what a husband's supposed to do.

  1615. You have a responsibility

  1616. to disciple your wife.

  1617. Like,

1618. how is she supposed to sit

1619. and not ask a question in church

1620. and instead ask you at home

1621. if you don't know the answer?

1622. You're supposed to be the guy

  1623. who's devoted

  1624. to understanding

  1625. what this book says

  1626. and excited

1627. to share it with your wife

  1628. and disciple her.

  1629. It's your job.

  1630. So don't outsource that.

  1631. Don't outsource her discipleship

  1632. to women's ministries.

  1633. Okay?

  1634. They are awesome

1635. if you're doing their job.

  1636. They're illegal

  1637. if you're not.

  1638. Same goes with kids.

  1639. Raise them in wisdom

1640. and aptitude of the Lord

  1641. like it says

  1642. and we're commanded to

  1643. in Ephesians 6.4.

1644. Teach them his word diligently

  1645. like Deuteronomy 6.7 says.

  1646. Again,

1647. you have the primary responsibility

  1648. to disciple your kids

1649. and teach them what God says.

  1650. Sunday school is awesome

  1651. if it's supplemental.

  1652. Youth group is awesome

  1653. if it's supplemental.

  1654. But at best,

1655. it can only be that.

1656. What they believe about God

1657. is going to be directly informed

1658. by how you believe it

1659. by what you make a priority

  1660. in your home.

  1661. Okay,

  1662. number 10.

  1663. Make decisions.

  1664. Decisiveness is a blessing.

  1665. Indecision kills confidence

  1666. in your leadership

1667. and makes your family anxious.

  1668. If you're not making

  1669. hard decisions,

1670. that means it's on them.

  1671. That's anxiety producing.

  1672. Don't do that.

  1673. Make decisions.

  1674. Love your wife

  1675. and get her decisive.

  1676. Okay?

  1677. Communicate.

  1678. Live with her

  1679. in an understanding way.

1680. Take in all the information

  1681. and lovingly make decisions.

  1682. It's a relief.

  1683. It's a blessing.

  1684. You're blessing your wife

  1685. when you make decisions.

  1686. Okay.

  1687. Number 11.

  1688. Rule your finances

1689. to provide for your family.

  1690. 1 Timothy 5.8 says that

  1691. if a man doesn't provide

  1692. for his own,

  1693. especially the members

  1694. of his own house,

  1695. he's denied the faith

1696. and he's worse than an unbeliever.

  1697. Okay.

  1698. So maybe you're not

  1699. actually good at finances.

  1700. Let's start there.

  1701. Let's rule over them.

1702. Know how much money you make.

  1703. Know how much money

  1704. it requires

  1705. to pay the bills

  1706. and to supply everything

  1707. the Bible teaches you

  1708. ought to supply,

1709. which is actually quite a bit.

  1710. The Old Testament

1711. has a lot of details

  1712. on what a man

  1713. is required

  1714. to supply his wife.

  1715. Can you do that?

1716. Well, you need to know.

1717. You need to rule your finances.

  1718. You need to know

  1719. that you can provide

1720. as God has commanded us to.

  1721. Number 12.

  1722. Protect your family.

  1723. Don't let other people

  1724. make decisions for you

  1725. and your family.

  1726. You do it.

  1727. Okay?

  1728. You make the decisions.

1729. Don't just let, you know,

  1730. so-and-so need over here

  1731. and a strong personality

  1732. over there

  1733. just steer your family

  1734. all over the place.

1735. Like, take in the information,

  1736. consult with your wife,

1737. but you make the decisions.

1738. You decide what your family does.

  1739. Don't be a slave

  1740. of other people's

  1741. strong desires.

  1742. It's not good.

1743. Even if they're good desires.

1744. If you're not the one

  1745. having agency in that,

  1746. it's not good.

  1747. Number 13.

1748. You need to forgive your dad.

  1749. Okay?

1750. You need to forgive your dad

  1751. and know that Christ

  1752. has redeemed you

1753. from his failures of leadership.

  1754. This comes from

  1755. 1 Peter 1.8.

1756. It says that we were redeemed

  1757. from the futile ways

1758. we inherited from our fathers.

1759. This is an awesome truth.

  1760. Okay?

1761. We've got to forgive our dad.

  1762. Okay?

1763. Our kids are going to

  1764. have to forgive us.

1765. We need to forgive our dad.

1766. And we also need to remember

  1767. that I'm not doomed

  1768. to repeat

  1769. the same mistakes

  1770. my dad did.

  1771. Because I was bought

  1772. with the precious blood

  1773. of Jesus

  1774. and I was given

  1775. a totally clean slate,

  1776. a fresh slate

  1777. of expectation

  1778. of good.

  1779. Number 14.

  1780. If you're unmarried,

1781. you should pursue a woman

  1782. and lead her

1783. like Christ leads the church.

1784. That comes from Ephesians 5.

  1785. You need a helper.

  1786. It's not good

  1787. for the man

  1788. to be alone.

  1789. God does call

  1790. some men

  1791. to be eunuchs

1792. for the sake of the kingdom.

1793. But that's not the norm.

  1794. There's exceptions to everything.

1795. But that's not the norm.

  1796. Number 15.

  1797. Jesus is the example.

  1798. We've said this already.

  1799. Don't be passive.

  1800. Jesus was not passive.

  1801. Don't follow a woman.

1802. Jesus did not follow women.

  1803. He cared for women.

1804. He did not follow them.

  1805. Don't be a people-pleasing

  1806. beta male.

  1807. Okay?

  1808. Jesus was not that.

  1809. He was not a people-pleasing

  1810. beta male.

  1811. He wasn't.

1812. Not a single one of us

  1813. should be that.

  1814. Our example

  1815. is Jesus Christ.

1816. He lived to please God.

1817. He had a vertical orientation.

1818. He had a palm line

  1819. that says,

  1820. whatever my Father says,

  1821. that's what I'm going to do.

1822. And that is our creative purpose

1823. is to live like that

  1824. with our high priest

  1825. Jesus being the example.

  1826. So we were like

  1827. who have questions like,

1828. what does that look like?

  1829. A lot of times

1830. you can just read the Gospels

1831. and you can find an example

1832. of what that looks like.

  1833. Put some flesh on.

1834. Last is lead in preaching

  1835. the Gospel

  1836. and making disciples,

  1837. advancing the rule

  1838. of Christ over all.

  1839. The Kingdom of God

  1840. is advancing.

  1841. It says that

1842. from the days of John the Baptist

  1843. till now,

  1844. the Kingdom of Heaven

  1845. suffers violence

  1846. and violent men

1847. lay hold of it by force.

1848. The way we lay hold

1849. of the Kingdom of God,

1850. in addition to these things

  1851. bringing rule

1852. in our areas of responsibility,

  1853. is advancing that

  1854. through the Gospel.

  1855. We preach the Gospel

  1856. in the context

  1857. of the local church

  1858. partnering together

1859. in the gates of hell.

  1860. Don't prevail against it.

  1861. And we take territory

1862. for the Kingdom of God

1863. in the souls of men.

1864. And we advance His rule.

1865. And that is a way

  1866. we can advance dominion.

  1867. We are called to

  1868. rule the earth,

  1869. to take dominion.

  1870. Well, there's a fulfillment

1871. of that in the Gospel

1872. and in the Great Commission.

  1873. We are going out.

  1874. We're not waiting

1875. for people to come to us.

1876. We are going to them.

1877. We're going to find them.

  1878. We're going to preach

  1879. the Gospel to them.

  1880. And when they repent

  1881. of their sins

1882. and put their faith in Jesus,

1883. they come under the rule

  1884. of Jesus Christ.

1885. And we can teach them this stuff.
