  7. We'll start reading at the end of verse 18.

  8. Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that this shall turn to my salvation or my deliverance

  9. through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

  10. According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed,

  11. but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body,

  12. whether it be by life or by death.

  13. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

  14. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labor, or I will have fruitful labor in ministry,

  15. as is referenced there.

  16. Yet what I shall choose, I don't really know.

  17. I want not.

  18. For I am hard-pressed between the two.

  19. I have a desire to depart and to be with Christ,

  20. which is far better than anything he's experiencing in this particular world and in this particular life.

  21. Nevertheless, verse 24,

  22. to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

  23. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all

  24. for the furtherance and the joy of your faith,

  25. that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

  26. Part of Paul's purpose in writing this letter was to address concerns that the Philippians had communicated to him.

  27. We mentioned last week they had sent a man named Epaphroditus,

  28. who was a member of their church.

  29. Perhaps he was even a leader in their church or an elder in their church.

  30. And they had sent Epaphroditus to Rome to comfort Paul,

  31. but to also bring them back a report on his own welfare

  32. and what the effect of his circumstance was on the gospel.

  33. And he addresses that in the study that we had last week.

  34. He addresses that particular concern.

  35. He addresses the question of what is going on with you

  36. and how is this circumstance in your life affecting the gospel?

  37. And in these verses, he moves on to what would inevitably be the next question.

  38. After he satisfied them by saying, God is advancing the gospel,

  39. so don't worry about my circumstance.

  40. And as he says, stay focused on the gospel.

  41. Don't worry about the people that are criticizing right now.

  42. He then anticipates that their next question would be,

  43. okay, well, what's going to happen now?

  44. If the present circumstance is okay and God's advancing the gospel,

  45. what's next, Paul?

  46. What do you think is going to happen?

  47. What do you think will happen?

  48. You've been in this process of judicial argument.

  49. What do you think will be the next move?

  50. And so this section of verses is really made up of Paul's thoughts on his immediate future.

  51. He's reflected on the past.

  52. He is considered his present.

  53. And now he turns his eyes to the future.

  54. And as we study this passage, we quickly discover

  55. that there was really only two possibilities on the table for Paul's future.

  56. Exoneration or execution.

  57. Life or death.

  58. That's it.

  59. He'd been in prison for four years now.

  60. Two years in Caesarea.

  61. Two years in Rome.

  62. He's gone through the judicial process at this point to the point

  63. that only thing that is left is the verdict to be delivered.

  64. He's appeared before the people that he's going to appear before.

  65. And now he's just waiting under house arrest to see what will the judge say.

  66. Will he exonerate me and vindicate me in this and allow me to live my life

  67. and serve Christ in further ministry on this earth?

  68. Or will his judgment be that I have violated the law in some way,

  69. that I have created this insurrection among Jews in the Roman kingdom,

  70. and therefore he sentenced me to death?

  71. Now we know that eventually Paul is martyred for his faith,

  72. but it's not at this point that he actually does become a martyr.

  73. At this point, he's just waiting to find out what the verdict will be.

  74. But he understood as he looked at his future

  75. that there was really only two options on the table.

  76. Either he was going to live or he was going to die.

  77. And that verdict was approaching and getting closer and closer for him.

  78. Of course, Paul was not defeated in this as he considered his plight,

  79. but he wrote that he was actually filled with joy

  80. at the prospect of both life and death.

  81. And we see that again at the end of verse 18.

  82. As he opens up this particular paragraph,

  83. as he discusses his view of his own future,

  84. he opens up by saying, I will rejoice.

  85. Whatever my future is, I will rejoice in that

  86. because I understand that my future holds Christ in every regard.

  87. If it's life, I will live it for Christ.

  88. If it's death, I will gain Christ.

  89. So it's not that Paul understood exactly what

  90. the nature of his future was going to be.

  91. He didn't know exactly how it was going to unfold.

  92. We learn that he has an anticipation.

  93. He has something that he thinks will happen,

  94. but he doesn't really know.

  95. So he presents both options.

  96. He says, I'm either going to die or I'm going to live.

  97. And no matter what, I'm going to rejoice

  98. because for me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

  99. So what we see here in this passage is really

  100. Paul's radical view of life.

  101. It's a radical commitment to Christ.

  102. And I think it causes us to examine our own attitude

  103. towards Christ in this.

  104. There's really three attitudes that Paul has here

  105. as he looks toward his future

  106. and as he contemplates what might actually happen.

  107. And these three attitudes is what allowed him

  108. to experience joy in this particular moment in his life.

  109. He didn't have an answer other than to give these three thoughts

  110. of how he was facing it.

  111. The first one is this.

  112. He was certain of ultimate deliverance.

  113. He was certain of ultimate deliverance.

  114. Look with me again at verse 19.

  115. Paul says that he will rejoice because I know that this shall turn to my salvation.

  116. I know that this shall turn to my deliverance.

  117. As we look at verse 19, the immediate question that comes to mind

  118. is what kind of salvation is Paul referring to?

  119. It can really be only one of two things.

  120. Either he's speaking of immediate deliverance,

  121. that the verdict will come and the judge will allow him to continue on in his life,

  122. or he's looking towards an ultimate deliverance.

  123. That in death, ultimately, he has been promised eternal life in Christ,

  124. and that means deliverance from every circumstance that he's then facing.

  125. Now, verse 25 indicates that he believed he would continue on living.

  126. Look at that with me, verse 25.

  127. He says,

  128. In having this confidence, or I am confident of this,

  129. I know that I shall abide and continue with you all

  130. for the furtherance and joy of faith.

  131. But it can't be that in verse 19 he's referring to life

  132. because in verse 20,

  133. he automatically reverts to the possibility of the realm of death.

  134. Look at verse 20.

  135. According to my earnest expectation and my hope

  136. that I won't be ashamed,

  137. that I'll be bold so that Christ will be magnified in my body,

  138. whether it be by life or by death.

  139. So he doesn't really know exactly what's going to happen.

  140. Therefore, we can conclude

  141. that Paul's certainty in verse 19

  142. is not an indication that he knew how things would unfold in the future,

  143. but it's rather a statement

  144. that his present circumstance was only temporary.

  145. In one way or another,

  146. he was going to be delivered.

  147. In one way or another,

  148. whether life or death,

  149. this imprisonment was only temporary.

  150. This criticism was only temporary.

  151. This sorrow was only temporary.

  152. This disease was only temporary.

  153. This soreness and fatigue that he felt

  154. after being beaten so many times

  155. and all the things he had gone through

  156. in this particular phase of his life,

  157. all of these things were only temporary.

  158. So Paul says,

  159. I rejoice because I am certain,

  160. I am absolutely confident

  161. that everything I'm dealing with right now

  162. is actually temporary.

  163. And one way or another,

  164. it's going to come to an end,

  165. whether it be by life or by death.

  166. And in that,

  167. we're reminded of the truth of the gospel.

  168. For all of us that have truly come to faith in Christ,

  169. all of us that have viewed our sin,

  170. cast ourselves on Christ,

  171. despite whatever circumstance we may be in,

  172. despite whatever troubles we may face,

  173. despite whatever disease we may encounter,

  174. despite whatever struggle or criticism,

  175. no matter your circumstance,

  176. you can look at your life with great joy

  177. because as a Christian,

  178. you are certain and confident of the fact

  179. that this is only temporary.

  180. This life on this earth,

  181. it is only temporary.

  182. The struggles that come along with it,

  183. they are only temporary,

  184. but they are only temporary when you are in Christ.

  185. For anyone that is not in Christ,

  186. you cannot look at every circumstance with joy

  187. because there's no foundation for that joy.

  188. The focus of our attention in verse 19

  189. should not be set on what kind of deliverance

  190. Paul would experience,

  191. but rather on the certainty

  192. with which Paul anticipated that deliverance.

  193. There's three things in this verse.

  194. One is implied and two are expressly stated.

  195. The first thing is this,

  196. he was confident or his confidence

  197. was produced by the word of God.

  198. His confidence was produced by the word of God.

  199. Now I'm told that the phrase,

  200. this shall turn to my salvation

  201. is actually a verbatim quote

  202. of something that Job had recorded in the Old Testament.

  203. You'll remember Job.

  204. I'll read the passage to you

  205. if you wanna reference it later on your own.

  206. It's Job chapter 13 and verse number 16.

    Job 13 chapter mention

  207. You'll probably remember verse 15

  208. as Job in the worst stage of his life,

  209. in the worst predicament

  210. that any of us could even really imagine.

  211. He says,

  212. though God slay me, yet I will trust him,

  213. but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

  214. And then in verse 16, he says,

  215. he also shall be my salvation.

  216. Paul is quoting verbatim that particular passage.

  217. He shall also be my salvation.

  218. Now in English, it's not a word for word copy,

  219. but you gotta remember,

  220. Paul wasn't reading an English version of the Bible

  221. and he wasn't writing an English version of the Bible.

  222. He was writing this in Greek.

  223. And Paul's Bible in the early New Testament age

  224. would have been a Greek translation

  225. of the Old Testament called the Septuagint.

  226. So when you look at the Greek translations

  227. of the Hebrew in Job chapter 13

    Job 13 chapter mention

  228. and the Greek writing of Paul's writing here

  229. in Philippians chapter one,

  230. it's a word by word quote.

  231. Implicit in this is that Paul's confidence

  232. in the certainty of his deliverance

  233. was first sourced in the fact

  234. that he knew and studied faithfully

  235. and believed the word of God.

  236. Now our lives are full of instability.

  237. By nature, we are incompetent.

  238. By nature, when we look towards the future,

  239. we look at it with no confidence at all.

  240. The only sort of confidence that we can actually achieve

  241. can only come from the inerrant, infallible,

  242. unchanging, eternal word of God.

  243. When Paul expresses this joy

  244. and this joy being in confidence of deliverance,

  245. he obviously had Job's words on his mind.

  246. There's no coincidence in that.

  247. Paul was a student of the Bible

  248. and it was the Bible that gave him this confidence

  249. because he could trust the words of God.

  250. In the deepest, darkest moments of your Christian life,

  251. your confidence and your joy

  252. will first come from the word.

  253. So stay in the word.

  254. Remember the words of Jesus in John chapter six.

  255. Jesus said, all those who come to me,

  256. I will in no wise cast out.

  257. Those who come to Christ in faith,

  258. he will never cast out.

  259. Paul had just said just a few verses earlier

  260. in Philippians chapter one in verse six.

  261. Remember what he told the Philippian people?

  262. I am confident.

  263. I am certain of this,

  264. that the God that has begun this work in you

  265. will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

  266. In other words, at the day that you face Jesus Christ,

  267. either from his coming back or through your death,

  268. he will bring this salvation to completion for you.

  269. You don't have to worry about that.

  270. That salvation is complete in your life.

  271. Consider Jesus's words to the woman at the well.

  272. He says, anyone who drinks of this water of salvation

  273. that I give will never thirst again.

  274. In John chapter three,

  275. the life that Jesus came to give

  276. because of his love for the world

  277. was not a temporary life.

  278. It was an eternal life.

  279. So when we look at our circumstances,

  280. even if our circumstances are like Paul's

  281. and it's a sudden death, perhaps,

  282. maybe it's through illness,

  283. maybe it's through struggle or through age,

  284. as a believer,

  285. we can rest certain and confident in the fact

  286. that God will save us.

  287. He will deliver us.

  288. And we rest in that

  289. because he has told us in his word.

  290. That's where his confidence was first sourced.

  291. Secondly, and much more quickly than that,

  292. his confidence was produced by the prayers of others.

  293. His confidence was produced by the prayers of others.

  294. Now the word of God is implicit in that verse,

  295. but prayer is actually stated clearly.

  296. Look at it again, verse 19.

  297. I know that this shall turn to my salvation

  298. through your prayer.

  299. In the mystery of God's sovereignty,

  300. the Bible teaches that God has chosen

  301. to use our prayers

  302. as a means of accomplishing his purposes.

  303. You can imagine the type of prayers

  304. that these believers would have been requesting.

  305. There's no doubt in my mind

  306. that as Paul was facing this imprisonment

  307. and this criticism,

  308. their prayers,

  309. the prayers of the Philippian church

  310. was for deliverance,

  311. immediate deliverance,

  312. just like our prayers would be.

  313. I would hope that if I got arrested today

  314. for preaching the gospel

  315. and I was facing imprisonment,

  316. that you would have a prayer meeting

  317. at least once

  318. and would pray,

  319. Lord, let Jared get out of jail.

  320. I don't think that was their only prayer

  321. because Paul's confidence here,

  322. what is sourcing his confidence

  323. is their prayer.

  324. So it's not that he's looking at their prayer

  325. and saying,

  326. I know how hard you're praying for my deliverance

  327. and I'm confident

  328. that I will be delivered from this prison

  329. because of your prayer.

  330. That is true.

  331. God uses our prayers in that way.

  332. But I think the nature of their prayer

  333. in conjunction with that,

  334. the nature of their prayer was,

  335. Lord, we know he's been there for four years.

  336. He's gotta be discouraged.

  337. Not only is he facing imprisonment, Father,

  338. but he's facing criticism

  339. from our own brothers and sisters in Christ, Lord.

  340. Lord, would you please help him stay faithful?

  341. Would you please help him stay strong?

  342. Would you please give him comfort?

  343. Would you please give him peace?

  344. Will you please provide to him

  345. the things inwardly

  346. that he needs to persevere in this circumstance?

  347. And I hope that would also be part of your prayer for me.

  348. Not only that I would be delivered

  349. from that immediate jail cell,

  350. but that the Lord,

  351. through the supply of the Holy Spirit,

  352. would keep me faithful in that circumstance.

  353. Paul said, my confidence here,

  354. my certainty is not only sourced in the word,

  355. but my confidence is encouraged by your prayer.

  356. His confidence was sourced in their prayer.

  357. Thirdly, his confidence was produced

  358. by the provision of the Holy Spirit,

  359. by the provision of the Holy Spirit.

  360. Everything we receive in salvation

  361. and in sanctification has these three elements

  362. as its source.

  363. The word of God,

  364. the prayers of others,

  365. and the spirit of God.

  366. It's the spirit of God that does the work,

  367. but it's the pages of scripture

  368. and the prayers of others

  369. that he uses to accomplish that work.

  370. Think about that.

  371. What's happening in Paul's life

  372. and his attitude in this moment

  373. was a result of God's work in his life.

  374. That's what was really happening.

  375. But what was God using?

  376. He was using the word

  377. and he was using prayers.

  378. Not only was he confident

  379. in his ultimate deliverance,

  380. secondly,

  381. he was committed to magnifying Christ.

  382. He was committed to magnifying Christ.

  383. Look at verse 20.

  384. According to my earnest expectation

  385. and my hope,

  386. that in nothing I shall be ashamed,

  387. but that with all boldness,

  388. as always,

  389. so now also Christ shall be magnified

  390. in my body,

  391. whether it be by life

  392. or by death.

  393. Paul was absolutely consumed

  394. with knowing and serving Christ.

  395. In verse 20,

  396. this is seen

  397. as he reminds the Philippian believers

  398. of his commitment

  399. to preach Christ

  400. in life

  401. and in the face of death.

  402. When he uses this phrase,

  403. eager expectation and hope,

  404. it was a statement

  405. of his ongoing commitment.

  406. This wasn't wishful thinking.

  407. That's not what he's saying.

  408. He's not saying,

  409. I really hope

  410. or I really wish

  411. that in life and in death,

  412. I would stay faithful to Christ.

  413. This is,

  414. that's not what he's saying.

  415. This is a statement of commitment.

  416. He's saying,

  417. my expectation,

  418. my hope,

  419. my certainty

  420. is that my attitude

  421. is gonna be

  422. in commitment to Christ.

  423. Whether I live

  424. or whether I die,

  425. I will stay committed

  426. to Christ.

  427. And the way in which

  428. he was gonna stay committed

  429. was by unashamedly

  430. preaching the gospel

  431. in life

  432. and by courageously

  433. facing death

  434. for the sake

  435. of the gospel.

  436. This is no secret

  437. to Paul's life,

  438. right?

  439. Remember what he wrote

  440. in Romans chapter one,

  441. for I am not ashamed

  442. of the gospel of Christ.

  443. Why was he unashamed

  444. of the gospel of Christ?

  445. He goes on to say,

  446. for it is the power

  447. of God

  448. unto salvation

  449. to everyone

  450. that will believe.

  451. And then he says

  452. in the end of verse 20

  453. that his goal

  454. is to magnify Christ

  455. as he preaches

  456. the gospel,

  457. whether it be

  458. in life

  459. or in death.

  460. And we know

  461. what this means.

  462. To magnify something

  463. means to make it larger

  464. or to make it

  465. more easily visible.

  466. We accomplish this

  467. in using a telescope

  468. by making things

  469. at a far distance

  470. appear much closer.

  471. And we accomplish it

  472. with a microscope

  473. by making tiny things

  474. look much larger.

  475. Paul's goal in life

  476. was to live

  477. in such a way

  478. that he would bring

  479. Jesus close

  480. to those who were

  481. far from God

  482. and that he would

  483. make Jesus visible

  484. to those

  485. who were blinded

  486. to God's truth.

  487. Which leaves us

  488. with a self-examining question.

  489. Does my life

  490. magnify Christ?

  491. Not,

  492. the question is not

  493. am I just following Christ?

  494. It's not

  495. do I believe Christ?

  496. Is that,

  497. is the way

  498. that I'm living my life,

  499. the way that I'm

  500. preaching the gospel,

  501. the way that I even

  502. consider the future

  503. of my death

  504. for the,

  505. possibly for the gospel,

  506. is my life

  507. and the way that I live

  508. actually bringing people

  509. closer to Christ?

  510. Am I making Christ

  511. more visible

  512. to the people around me

  513. because of the way

  514. that I live

  515. and the way that I talk

  516. in the things that I do?

  517. That's a convicting

  518. question to ask

  519. because I think

  520. all of us would see here

  521. and say,

  522. you know what,

  523. we could probably

  524. magnify him

  525. a little greater

  526. than what we're doing now.

  527. We could probably

  528. be more faithful

  529. to talk about the gospel.

  530. We could probably

  531. be more faithful

  532. to holiness.

  533. We could probably

  534. be more faithful

  535. to fill in the blank.

  536. I watched a documentary

  537. that was produced

  538. by National Geographic

  539. recently called

  540. Free Solo.

  541. Free soloing

  542. is a type of

  543. professional ice

  544. and rock climbing

  545. where a climber

  546. will climb by himself

  547. and without any

  548. harnesses or ropes

  549. or protective gear

  550. at all.

  551. They pick a rock face

  552. or an ice face

  553. and they climb it

  554. by themselves

  555. with no help.

  556. Free Solo,

  557. this particular documentary,

  558. follows a man

  559. named Alex Honnold

  560. who is a free solo climber.

  561. It's what he's

  562. passionate about.

  563. In fact,

  564. he makes a great

  565. amount of money

  566. rock climbing

  567. professionally

  568. yet he chooses

  569. to live in a van

  570. because that's his life.

  571. His life is wrapped up

  572. in rock climbing.

  573. That's all he wants to do.

  574. So he lives in a van.

  575. He can jump in it.

  576. He can wake up

  577. in the morning,

  578. fix his eggs,

  579. get in the car

  580. and drive to the next

  581. rock face for him to climb.

  582. But he's a free solo climber

  583. so he does this alone

  584. and he does it without ropes

  585. and he had set a goal

  586. and the documentary

  587. really follows

  588. the story

  589. of how he prepares

  590. to climb

  591. what's called

  592. El Capitan

  593. in the Yosemite National Park.

  594. You can look that up

  595. on Google

  596. and you can see

  597. a picture of it.

  598. It's a 3,000 foot climb

  599. and if you look

  600. at the pictures of it

  601. it looks like a sheet of glass.

  602. It's just solid.

  603. How anybody could climb

  604. any portion of it

  605. is unbelievable

  606. but to especially do it

  607. with the confidence

  608. that he has

  609. without ropes

  610. and to do it alone

  611. is quite astounding

  612. to be honest with you.

  613. That's really what

  614. this particular documentary

  615. is about.

  616. It follows Alex

  617. as he prepares

  618. to make this attempt

  619. to be the first person

  620. to climb El Cap

  621. as they call it

  622. without any ropes

  623. or any harnesses.

  624. And as he gets

  625. into this documentary

  626. of course

  627. they're trying

  628. to get into his head

  629. to see what causes

  630. him to do this

  631. and he has a pretty

  632. unique perspective

  633. on death.

  634. At one point

  635. in the beginning

  636. he says

  637. the way I see it

  638. all of us

  639. are just

  640. a step away

  641. from sudden death.

  642. Any of us

  643. could die

  644. at any moment.

  645. He said

  646. I'm not at

  647. any more risk

  648. than anybody else.

  649. It just appears

  650. that I'm at more risk

  651. because the way

  652. that I choose

  653. to live my life

  654. has a greater consequence.

  655. In other words

  656. if he falls off

  657. the face of the mountain

  658. there's no coming back

  659. from that.

  660. But he's saying

  661. that his risk of death

  662. is no different

  663. than your risk of death.

  664. You could get in a car accident

  665. as you leave today.

  666. You could come down

  667. with some type

  668. of severe illness.

  669. You could choke

  670. on something at lunch

  671. and lose airway

  672. and not be able

  673. to release that

  674. and just like that

  675. you're gone.

  676. And so basically

  677. his perspective

  678. as death

  679. is we're all

  680. a step away

  681. from death.

  682. I at least

  683. am going to live

  684. my life

  685. doing the things

  686. that I love the most

  687. which for him

  688. is rock climbing

  689. with no ropes

  690. and with no people

  691. to help him.

  692. But the documentary

  693. also follows

  694. the way that

  695. his passion

  696. of rock climbing

  697. affects relationships

  698. in his life

  699. particularly

  700. the relationship

  701. that he has

  702. with his girlfriend

  703. whose name is Sonny.

  704. Just before

  705. he makes this attempt

  706. to climb

  707. this rock face

  708. the film

  709. shows

  710. a conversation

  711. that he has

  712. with his girlfriend

  713. where she is

  714. very obviously

  715. reluctant

  716. for him

  717. to make this attempt.

  718. She doesn't want

  719. him to do it.

  720. She knows

  721. that he can die

  722. very very quickly.

  723. In fact

  724. up to this point

  725. all of his practice

  726. has been done

  727. with ropes

  728. and he fell

  729. many many

  730. many many times.

  731. And now

  732. he's just going

  733. to go

  734. and he's going

  735. to climb it

  736. without the ropes

  737. and she's reluctant

  738. for him to do that.

  739. And as they're

  740. having this conversation

  741. she asks

  742. if he had

  743. some type

  744. of relationship

  745. or some type

  746. of care

  747. for something

  748. in his life

  749. that would cause

  750. him to want

  751. to maximize

  752. his lifespan.

  753. And here's

  754. what he said.

  755. He said

  756. if I had

  757. some kind

  758. of obligation

  759. to maximize

  760. my lifespan

  761. then yeah

  762. obviously

  763. I'd have

  764. to give up

  765. soloing.

  766. And she

  767. obviously

  768. replies

  769. with a question

  770. of whether

  771. or not

  772. he viewed

  773. her

  774. as a worthy

  775. enough obligation

  776. to which

  777. he responded

  778. no no

  779. I appreciate

  780. your concerns

  781. I respect

  782. that

  783. but I

  784. in no way

  785. feel obligated

  786. no

  787. and he goes

  788. on with his

  789. climb

  790. his life

  791. is consumed

  792. with free

  793. solo climbing

  794. to the point

  795. that he will

  796. allow no

  797. person

  798. or thing

  799. to distract

  800. him

  801. from pursuing

  802. that passion

  803. even in the

  804. face of death

  805. he refuses

  806. to have

  807. his focus

  808. and attention

  809. diverted away

  810. from what he

  811. loves the most

  812. and this

  813. is exactly

  814. the kind

  815. of passion

  816. and pursuit

  817. that the

  818. apostle Paul

  819. demonstrates

  820. in his life

  821. in Christ

  822. there's no

  823. greater passion

  824. in his life

  825. than Christ

  826. and his gospel

  827. and he will

  828. not allow

  829. any person

  830. or thing

  831. to distract

  832. him

  833. from pursuing

  834. his ultimate

  835. passion

  836. even in the

  837. face of death

  838. Paul refused

  839. to have his

  840. focus taken

  841. away from

  842. the knowledge

  843. and purposes

  844. of Jesus

  845. Christ

  846. and that is

  847. clearly stated

  848. in this most

  849. famous verse

  850. verse 21

  851. as he says

  852. for to me

  853. to live

  854. is Christ

  855. and because

  856. my life

  857. is consumed

  858. with Christ

  859. I view

  860. my death

  861. as

  862. gain

  863. it's amazing

  864. this entire

  865. section of

  866. verses

  867. and perhaps

  868. even the

  869. entire book

  870. of Philippians

  871. is centered

  872. on this

  873. verse

  874. this statement

  875. is the

  876. foundation

  877. for everything

  878. Paul writes

  879. in regards

  880. to the way

  881. that he

  882. will live

  883. his life

  884. and the

  885. way

  886. that he

  887. will

  888. face

  889. his

  890. death

  891. think about

  892. these verses

  893. in particular

  894. he's able

  895. in verse

  896. 18 to have

  897. joy

  898. despite his

  899. circumstances

  900. because

  901. for him

  902. to live

  903. as Christ

  904. and to die

  905. his game

  906. he's able

  907. in verse 19

  908. to be

  909. certain

  910. of ultimate

  911. deliverance

  912. because for

  913. him to

  914. live as

  915. Christ

  916. and to die

  917. his game

  918. he's able

  919. to be

  920. bold

  921. and facing

  922. execution

  923. in verse

  924. 20

  925. because for

  926. him to

  927. live as

  928. Christ

  929. and to

  930. die

  931. his game

  932. he embraced

  933. death

  934. in verses

  935. 22 to

  936. 24

  937. instead of

  938. fearing

  939. death

  940. because for

  941. him to

  942. live as

  943. Christ

  944. and to

  945. die

  946. his game

  947. and he

  948. was willing

  949. to remain

  950. on earth

  951. for the

  952. purposes

  953. of gospel

  954. ministry

  955. in verses

  956. 24 to

  957. 26

  958. only because

  959. for him

  960. to live

  961. as Christ

  962. and to

  963. die

  964. his game

  965. every

  966. single

  967. statement

  968. in this

  969. passage

  970. is only

  971. possible

  972. because

  973. for Paul

  974. verse 21

  975. was absolutely

  976. true

  977. so when we

  978. look at

  979. Paul viewing

  980. his future

  981. and we say

  982. man I would

  983. love to look

  984. at my future

  985. with that

  986. kind of joy

  987. man I would

  988. love to look

  989. at ultimate

  990. deliverance

  991. with that

  992. kind of

  993. certainty

  994. and man I

  995. would love

  996. to be bold

  997. enough to

  998. preach the

  999. gospel in

  1000. that way

  1001. you will

  1002. never be

  1003. able to

  1004. experience

  1005. that joy

  1006. and have

  1007. that confidence

  1008. and preach

  1009. the way

  1010. that Paul

  1011. preached

  1012. unless verse

  1013. 21 is

  1014. absolutely

  1015. true for

  1016. you too

  1017. that for

  1018. me to

  1019. live is

  1020. Christ

  1021. that my

  1022. life is

  1023. primarily

  1024. consumed

  1025. with the

  1026. person

  1027. and the

  1028. work of

  1029. Jesus

  1030. Christ

  1031. and in

  1032. the face

  1033. of death

  1034. I understand

  1035. that this

  1036. life is

  1037. nothing that

  1038. I want to

  1039. hold on to

  1040. and there's

  1041. nothing in it

  1042. that's worth

  1043. holding on to

  1044. I would

  1045. rather go

  1046. see Christ

  1047. it's an

  1048. amazing

  1049. statement

  1050. we often

  1051. view death

  1052. as a loss

  1053. so it should

  1054. grab our

  1055. attention when

  1056. Paul makes

  1057. this statement

  1058. of death

  1059. actually being

  1060. gained

  1061. as believers

  1062. we know

  1063. what he

  1064. means

  1065. but whether

  1066. or not

  1067. we view

  1068. death as

  1069. a loss

  1070. or gain

  1071. is directly

  1072. related

  1073. to what

  1074. it is

  1075. that we

  1076. choose

  1077. to live

  1078. our lives

  1079. for

  1080. your

  1081. primary

  1082. pursuit

  1083. in life

  1084. will

  1085. determine

  1086. your view

  1087. of

  1088. eventual

  1089. death

  1090. when

  1091. Paul said

  1092. for me

  1093. to live

  1094. is Christ

  1095. and to

  1096. die

  1097. is gain

  1098. it's not

  1099. that he

  1100. didn't have

  1101. a life

  1102. he wasn't

  1103. married

  1104. but he

  1105. certainly

  1106. loved

  1107. people

  1108. he loved

  1109. this church

  1110. he loved

  1111. other churches

  1112. he was

  1113. passionate

  1114. about

  1115. people

  1116. he had

  1117. relationships

  1118. that he

  1119. cared for

  1120. he had

  1121. hobbies

  1122. he writes

  1123. later on

  1124. in Philippians

  1125. he alludes

  1126. several times

  1127. in the scriptures

  1128. about the

  1129. Olympic games

  1130. and the

  1131. Greek games

  1132. that they

  1133. had

  1134. perhaps he

  1135. was a

  1136. runner

  1137. he talks

  1138. about running

  1139. a lot

  1140. all of

  1141. these things

  1142. he had

  1143. passions

  1144. in his life

  1145. it's not

  1146. that he

  1147. was

  1148. but in

  1149. view of

  1150. Christ

  1151. everything

  1152. else

  1153. was

  1154. minimized

  1155. and with

  1156. Christ

  1157. set

  1158. on the

  1159. throne

  1160. of

  1161. his

  1162. heart

  1163. everything

  1164. else

  1165. was

  1166. put

  1167. in

  1168. his

  1169. proper

  1170. place

  1171. but if

  1172. you

  1173. were to

  1174. move

  1175. one of

  1176. those

  1177. things

  1178. into

  1179. the

  1180. place

  1181. of

  1182. Christ

  1183. then

  1184. the

  1185. thing

  1186. that

  1187. gets

  1188. minimized

  1189. is

  1190. actually

  1191. Christ

  1192. my

  1193. worry

  1194. and my

  1195. prayer

  1196. is that

  1197. the

  1198. Lord

  1199. would

  1200. help

  1201. me

  1202. not

  1203. to

  1204. put

  1205. my

  1206. family

  1207. on

  1208. the

  1209. throne

  1210. of

  1211. Christ

  1212. in

  1213. my

  1214. heart

  1215. so

  1216. that

  1217. Christ

  1218. is

  1219. minimized

  1220. in

  1221. it

  1222. so

  1223. that

  1224. instead

  1225. of

  1226. saying

  1227. I'm

  1228. going

  1229. to

  1230. pursue

  1231. Christ

  1232. and

  1233. I'm

  1234. going

  1235. to

  1236. bring

  1237. my

  1238. family

  1239. along

  1240. with

  1241. that

  1242. I

  1243. don't

  1244. want

  1245. to

  1246. say

  1247. I'm

  1248. going

  1249. to

  1250. pursue

  1251. my

  1252. family

  1253. and

  1254. we'll

  1255. figure

  1256. out

  1257. a

  1258. way

  1259. to

  1260. work

  1261. in

  1262. Christ

  1263. if

  1264. your

  1265. life

  1266. is

  1267. consumed

  1268. with

  1269. him

  1270. and

  1271. remember

  1272. what

  1273. Jesus

  1274. said

  1275. if

  1276. any

  1277. man

  1278. come

  1279. after

  1280. me

  1281. and

  1282. he

  1283. hate

  1284. not

  1285. his

  1286. father

  1287. and

  1288. mother

  1289. pale

  1290. in

  1291. comparison

  1292. to

  1293. your

  1294. followership

  1295. of

  1296. him

  1297. if

  1298. your

  1299. life

  1300. is

  1301. consumed

  1302. with

  1303. your

  1304. hobbies

  1305. your

  1306. death

  1307. will

  1308. be

  1309. considered

  1310. loss

  1311. if

  1312. your

  1313. life

  1314. is

  1315. consumed

  1316. with

  1317. material

  1318. gain

  1319. then

  1320. your

  1321. death

  1322. will

  1323. be

  1324. considered

  1325. as

  1326. loss

  1327. if

  1328. your

  1329. life

  1330. is

  1331. consumed

  1332. with

  1333. selfish

  1334. ambition

  1335. your

  1336. death

  1337. will

  1338. be

  1339. considered

  1340. as

  1341. loss

  1342. and

  1343. you

  1344. get

  1345. the

  1346. point

  1347. I

  1348. think

  1349. it's

  1350. for

  1351. this

  1352. reason

  1353. that

  1354. some

  1355. Christians

  1356. actually

  1357. are

  1358. happy

  1359. for

  1360. the

  1361. Lord

  1362. to

  1363. Terry

  1364. is

  1365. coming

  1366. I

  1367. remember

  1368. as a

  1369. teenager

  1370. maybe

  1371. some

  1372. of

  1373. you

  1374. will

  1375. remember

  1376. this

  1377. that

  1378. grew

  1379. up

  1380. in

  1381. church

  1382. I

  1383. remember

  1384. as a

  1385. teenager

  1386. anytime

  1387. my

  1388. dad

  1389. who's

  1390. a

  1391. pastor

  1392. anytime

  1393. he

  1394. would

  1395. preach

  1396. on

  1397. the

  1398. second

  1399. coming

  1400. of

  1401. Christ

  1402. and

  1403. he

  1404. would

  1405. preach

  1406. on

  1407. the

  1408. rapture

  1409. he

  1410. would

  1411. preach

  1412. on

  1413. Christ

  1414. could

  1415. come

  1416. back

  1417. at

  1418. any

  1419. moment

  1420. I

  1421. remember

  1422. thinking

  1423. in the

  1424. back

  1425. of my

  1426. head

  1427. selfishly

  1428. Lord

  1429. I

  1430. understand

  1431. that

  1432. but

  1433. if

  1434. you

  1435. could

  1436. just

  1437. wait

  1438. for

  1439. me

  1440. to

  1441. get

  1442. married

  1443. I

  1444. think

  1445. I

  1446. would

  1447. enjoy

  1448. that

  1449. you

  1450. know

  1451. we

  1452. play

  1453. those

  1454. foolish

  1455. games

  1456. where

  1457. man

  1458. if

  1459. I

  1460. could

  1461. just

  1462. get

  1463. this

  1464. Lord

  1465. just

  1466. hang

  1467. on

  1468. just

  1469. for

  1470. a

  1471. little

  1472. while

  1473. let

  1474. me

  1475. experience

  1476. this

  1477. part

  1478. of

  1479. our

  1480. life

  1481. and

  1482. really

  1483. what

  1484. it

  1485. is

  1486. our

  1487. mindset

  1488. is

  1489. set

  1490. so

  1491. much

  1492. on

  1493. this

  1494. earth

  1495. that

  1496. we're

  1497. happy

  1498. to

  1499. minimize

  1500. Christ

  1501. and

  1502. even

  1503. cause

  1504. him

  1505. to

  1506. Terry

  1507. is

  1508. coming

  1509. as

  1510. long

  1511. as

  1512. we

  1513. can

  1514. enjoy

  1515. the

  1516. things

  1517. that

  1518. we

  1519. want

  1520. to

  1521. enjoy

  1522. now

  1523. we

  1524. say

  1525. that

  1526. in

  1527. a

  1528. funny

  1529. way

  1530. but

  1531. how

  1532. many

  1533. of

  1534. us

  1535. actually

  1536. live

  1537. that

  1538. way

  1539. we

  1540. really

  1541. think

  1542. about

  1543. it

  1544. Lord

  1545. you

  1546. know

  1547. I

  1548. want

  1549. to

  1550. go

  1551. to

  1552. heaven

  1553. and

  1554. I

  1555. want

  1556. you

  1557. to

  1558. come

  1559. back

  1560. and

  1561. I

  1562. love

  1563. this

  1564. life

  1565. and

  1566. if

  1567. you

  1568. let

  1569. me

  1570. live

  1571. it

  1572. a

  1573. little

  1574. longer

  1575. so

  1576. I

  1577. can

  1578. accomplish

  1579. world

  1580. but

  1581. for

  1582. Paul

  1583. to

  1584. live

  1585. was

  1586. Christ

  1587. so

  1588. that

  1589. in

  1590. death

  1591. it

  1592. was

  1593. gain

  1594. do

  1595. you

  1596. view

  1597. death

  1598. as

  1599. gain

  1600. this

  1601. morning

  1602. is

  1603. your

  1604. life

  1605. so

  1606. focused

  1607. on

  1608. Christ

  1609. that

  1610. your

  1611. heart

  1612. is

  1613. overwhelmed

  1614. with

  1615. joy

  1616. at

  1617. the

  1618. prospect

  1619. of

  1620. both

  1621. life

  1622. and

  1623. death

  1624. because

  1625. it's

  1626. consumed

  1627. with

  1628. Christ

  1629. first

  1630. this

  1631. passage

  1632. is a

  1633. call

  1634. for

  1635. us

  1636. to

  1637. live

  1638. a

  1639. radically

  1640. different

  1641. life

  1642. as

  1643. a

  1644. Christian

  1645. it's

  1646. a

  1647. call

  1648. for

  1649. us

  1650. to

  1651. repent

  1652. of

  1653. the

  1654. spirit

  1655. that

  1656. often

  1657. accompanies

  1658. cultural

  1659. nominal

  1660. Christianity

  1661. and

  1662. actually

  1663. make

  1664. Christ

  1665. and

  1666. his

  1667. gospel

  1668. the

  1669. primary

  1670. pursuit

  1671. of

  1672. our

  1673. life

  1674. as

  1675. Paul

  1676. looked

  1677. at

  1678. his

  1679. future

  1680. he

  1681. wrote

  1682. of

  1683. three

  1684. attitudes

  1685. he

  1686. had

  1687. he

  1688. was

  1689. uncertain

  1690. of

  1691. exactly

  1692. how

  1693. it

  1694. would

  1695. unfold

  1696. but

  1697. there's

  1698. three

  1699. attitudes

  1700. he

  1701. had

  1702. he

  1703. was

  1704. confident

  1705. !

  1706. in

  1707. ultimate

  1708. deliverance

  1709. he

  1710. was

  1711. committed

  1712. to

  1713. magnifying

  1714. Christ

  1715. in

  1716. everything

  1717. even

  1718. in

  1719. life

  1720. and

  1721. death

  1722. and

  1723. then

  1724. finally

  1725. we

  1726. see

  1727. that

  1728. he

  1729. was

  1730. content

  1731. to

  1732. follow

  1733. God's

  1734. plan

  1735. no matter

  1736. what

  1737. that

  1738. was

  1739. his

  1740. attitude

  1741. look at

  1742. verse

  1743. 22

  1744. if

  1745. I

  1746. live

  1747. in

  1748. the

  1749. flesh

  1750. this

  1751. is

  1752. the

  1753. fruit

  1754. of

  1755. my

  1756. labor

  1757. I

  1758. will

  1759. have

  1760. fruitful

  1761. labor

  1762. he's

  1763. referring

  1764. to

  1765. his

  1766. ministry

  1767. yet

  1768. why

  1769. I

  1770. shall

  1771. choose

  1772. I

  1773. don't

  1774. know

  1775. if

  1776. given

  1777. the

  1778. choice

  1779. of

  1780. life

  1781. or

  1782. death

  1783. I

  1784. don't

  1785. really

  1786. know

  1787. that

  1788. I

  1789. to

  1790. be

  1791. with

  1792. Christ

  1793. is

  1794. far

  1795. better

  1796. that's

  1797. what

  1798. he

  1799. wanted

  1800. if

  1801. Paul

  1802. was

  1803. given

  1804. the

  1805. choice

  1806. in

  1807. that

  1808. prison

  1809. cell

  1810. he

  1811. would

  1812. have

  1813. chosen

  1814. Lord

  1815. bring

  1816. me

  1817. home

  1818. because

  1819. that's

  1820. the

  1821. ultimate

  1822. gain

  1823. but

  1824. then

  1825. he

  1826. says

  1827. in

  1828. verse

  1829. 24

  1830. nevertheless

  1831. to

  1832. abide

  1833. in

  1834. the

  1835. flesh

  1836. is

  1837. more

  1838. needful

  1839. for

  1840. you

  1841. and

  1842. being

  1843. confident

  1844. of

  1845. this

  1846. I

  1847. know

  1848. that

  1849. I

  1850. shall

  1851. abide

  1852. and

  1853. continue

  1854. he's

  1855. not

  1856. speaking

  1857. to

  1858. the

  1859. same

  1860. type

  1861. of

  1862. confidence

  1863. as

  1864. in

  1865. verse

  1866. 19

  1867. as

  1868. if

  1869. God

  1870. has

  1871. in

  1872. special

  1873. revelation

  1874. given

  1875. him

  1876. this

  1877. viewing

  1878. that

  1879. he

  1880. is

  1881. absolutely

  1882. going

  1883. to

  1884. survive

  1885. but

  1886. he

  1887. he

  1888. he's

  1889. basically

  1890. saying

  1891. I

  1892. think

  1893. this

  1894. is

  1895. what

  1896. the

  1897. Lord

  1898. is

  1899. going

  1900. to

  1901. do

  1902. and

  1903. if

  1904. this

  1905. is

  1906. what

  1907. the

  1908. Lord

  1909. is

  1910. going

  1911. to

  1912. do

  1913. this

  1914. is

  1915. why

  1916. he

  1917. he

  1918. will

  1919. do

  1920. it

  1921. And

  1922. he

  1923. gives

  1924. !

  1925. he

  1926. believes

  1927. that

  1928. his

  1929. life

  1930. will

  1931. be

  1932. continued

  1933. and

  1934. the

  1935. reason

  1936. I

  1937. use

  1938. the

  1939. word

  1940. content

  1941. here

  1942. in

  1943. this

  1944. point

  1945. is

  1946. because

  1947. given

  1948. the

  1949. choice

  1950. I

  1951. think

  1952. Paul

  1953. clearly

  1954. preferred

  1955. to be

  1956. with

  1957. Christ

  1958. he

  1959. had

  1960. what

  1961. he

  1962. wanted

  1963. but

  1964. then

  1965. he

  1966. saw

  1967. what

  1968. he

  1969. thought

  1970. was

  1971. probably

  1972. the

  1973. will

  1974. of

  1975. God

  1976. and

  1977. those

  1978. two

  1979. things

  1980. didn't

  1981. match

  1982. that's

  1983. the

  1984. very

  1985. nature

  1986. of

  1987. contentment

  1988. that

  1989. we

  1990. have

  1991. our

  1992. plans

  1993. and

  1994. we

  1995. have

  1996. our

  1997. desires

  1998. and

  1999. we

  2000. have

  2001. our

  2002. wants

  2003. which

  2004. is

  2005. natural

  2006. and

  2007. it's

  2008. not

  2009. a

  2010. bad

  2011. thing

  2012. to

  2013. have

  2014. those

  2015. things

  2016. but

  2017. his

  2018. desire

  2019. wasn't

  2020. greater

  2021. than

  2022. God's

  2023. plan

  2024. there's

  2025. a lesson

  2026. in that

  2027. for us

  2028. and

  2029. at

  2030. the

  2031. point

  2032. that

  2033. I'm

  2034. willing

  2035. to

  2036. sacrifice

  2037. my

  2038. desires

  2039. on

  2040. the

  2041. altar

  2042. of

  2043. God's

  2044. will

  2045. and

  2046. God's

  2047. plan

  2048. is

  2049. the

  2050. point

  2051. that

  2052. I

  2053. can

  2054. look

  2055. at

  2056. my

  2057. future

  2058. with

  2059. joy

  2060. whether

  2061. it

  2062. be

  2063. in

  2064. great

  2065. triumph

  2066. or

  2067. whether

  2068. it

  2069. be

  2070. in

  2071. great

  2072. sorrow

  2073. I

  2074. can

  2075. look

  2076. at

  2077. my

  2078. life

  2079. with

  2080. joy

  2081. because

  2082. I'm

  2083. more

  2084. concerned

  2085. with

  2086. what

  2087. God

  2088. wants

  2089. than

  2090. what

  2091. I

  2092. want

  2093. for

  2094. my

  2095. life

  2096. three

  2097. things

  2098. that

  2099. made

  2100. Paul

  2101. believe

  2102. his

  2103. life

  2104. was

  2105. going

  2106. to

  2107. continue

  2108. I'm

  2109. just

  2110. going

  2111. to

  2112. state

  2113. them

  2114. and

  2115. move

  2116. on

  2117. and

  2118. let

  2119. you

  2120. study

  2121. them

  2122. later

  2123. okay

  2124. the

  2125. first

  2126. thing

  2127. was

  2128. this

  2129. he

  2130. was

  2131. submitted

  2132. to

  2133. the

  2134. will

  2135. of

  2136. God

  2137. he

  2138. was

  2139. submitted

  2140. to

  2141. the

  2142. will

  2143. of

  2144. God

  2145. that

  2146. was

  2147. more

  2148. important

  2149. to

  2150. him

  2151. than

  2152. anything

  2153. else

  2154. many

  2155. of

  2156. us

  2157. miss

  2158. the

  2159. joy

  2160. of

  2161. serving

  2162. Christ

  2163. because

  2164. we're

  2165. unwilling

  2166. to

  2167. submit

  2168. to

  2169. the

  2170. will

  2171. of

  2172. God

  2173. when

  2174. it

  2175. doesn't

  2176. match

  2177. up

  2178. with

  2179. what

  2180. we

  2181. would

  2182. rather

  2183. have

  2184. or

  2185. do

  2186. secondly

  2187. he

  2188. was

  2189. concerned

  2190. for

  2191. the

  2192. progress

  2193. and

  2194. joy

  2195. of

  2196. others

  2197. he

  2198. was

  2199. concerned

  2200. for

  2201. the

  2202. progress

  2203. and

  2204. joy

  2205. of

  2206. others

  2207. that's

  2208. in

  2209. verse

  2210. 24

  2211. being

  2212. in

  2213. the

  2214. flesh

  2215. is

  2216. more

  2217. needful

  2218. for

  2219. you

  2220. I

  2221. shall

  2222. abide

  2223. and

  2224. continue

  2225. with

  2226. you

  2227. all

  2228. for

  2229. your

  2230. progress

  2231. and

  2232. joy

  2233. of

  2234. faith

  2235. he

  2236. cared

  2237. about

  2238. ministry

  2239. loved

  2240. it

  2241. and

  2242. he

  2243. wanted

  2244. perhaps

  2245. there

  2246. are

  2247. times

  2248. in

  2249. your

  2250. life

  2251. when

  2252. you're

  2253. wondering

  2254. what

  2255. your

  2256. purpose

  2257. is

  2258. within

  2259. the

  2260. church

  2261. I

  2262. want

  2263. to

  2264. submit

  2265. to

  2266. you

  2267. that

  2268. it's

  2269. the

  2270. same

  2271. as

  2272. Paul's

  2273. purpose

  2274. the

  2275. progress

  2276. and

  2277. joy

  2278. of

  2279. others

  2280. brother

  2281. Lee

  2282. you

  2283. and

  2284. I

  2285. were

  2286. having

  2287. a

  2288. conversation

  2289. this

  2290. morning

  2291. we're

  2292. talking

  2293. about

  2294. coming

  2295. in

  2296. and

  2297. you

  2298. mentioned

  2299. how

  2300. there

  2301. wasn't

  2302. really

  2303. a lot

  2304. that

  2305. you were

  2306. able

  2307. to do

  2308. bringing

  2309. stuff

  2310. in

  2311. this

  2312. morning

  2313. and

  2314. I

  2315. imagine

  2316. that

  2317. there

  2318. are

  2319. probably

  2320. moments

  2321. in

  2322. your

  2323. life

  2324. and

  2325. my

  2326. life

  2327. and

  2328. others

  2329. lives

  2330. when

  2331. we

  2332. get

  2333. to

  2334. places

  2335. like

  2336. that

  2337. we

  2338. don't

  2339. feel

  2340. like

  2341. we've

  2342. got

  2343. a lot

  2344. to

  2345. offer

  2346. we

  2347. don't

  2348. feel

  2349. like

  2350. we've

  2351. got

  2352. a lot

  2353. to

  2354. do

  2355. you

  2356. have

  2357. just

  2358. as

  2359. much

  2360. to

  2361. offer

  2362. as

  2363. Paul

  2364. had

  2365. to

  2366. offer

  2367. because

  2368. your

  2369. concern

  2370. should

  2371. be

  2372. the

  2373. progress

  2374. and

  2375. joy

  2376. of

  2377. others

  2378. our

  2379. church

  2380. needs

  2381. you

  2382. if

  2383. you're

  2384. a

  2385. believer

  2386. we

  2387. need

  2388. you

  2389. and

  2390. it's

  2391. not

  2392. just

  2393. that

  2394. we

  2395. need

  2396. you

  2397. to

  2398. carry

  2399. a

  2400. piano

  2401. or

  2402. a

  2403. speaker

  2404. all

  2405. that

  2406. stuff

  2407. is

  2408. helpful

  2409. please

  2410. keep

  2411. doing

  2412. that

  2413. but

  2414. it's

  2415. not

  2416. that

  2417. we

  2418. just

  2419. need

  2420. that

  2421. what

  2422. I

  2423. need

  2424. more

  2425. than

  2426. you

  2427. to

  2428. carry

  2429. a

  2430. TV

  2431. and

  2432. set

  2433. up

  2434. a

  2435. backdrop

  2436. what

  2437. I

  2438. need

  2439. is

  2440. your

  2441. prayer

  2442. and

  2443. I

  2444. need

  2445. your

  2446. encouragement

  2447. I

  2448. need

  2449. you

  2450. to

  2451. ask

  2452. me

  2453. every

  2454. now

  2455. and

  2456. then

  2457. if

  2458. I

  2459. to

  2460. ask

  2461. me

  2462. am

  2463. I

  2464. loving

  2465. my

  2466. wife

  2467. the

  2468. way

  2469. I

  2470. need

  2471. to

  2472. love

  2473. my

  2474. wife

  2475. I

  2476. need

  2477. you

  2478. to

  2479. care

  2480. about

  2481. my

  2482. progress

  2483. in

  2484. the

  2485. faith

  2486. my

  2487. maturity

  2488. in

  2489. Christ

  2490. and

  2491. I

  2492. need

  2493. you

  2494. to

  2495. care

  2496. about

  2497. my

  2498. joy

  2499. in

  2500. the

  2501. faith

  2502. we

  2503. all

  2504. pastor

  2505. each

  2506. other

  2507. in

  2508. that

  2509. way

  2510. it's

  2511. the

  2512. purpose

  2513. of

  2514. the

  2515. church

  2516. it's

  2517. why

  2518. we

  2519. have

  2520. one

  2521. another

  2522. it's

  2523. not

  2524. just

  2525. to

  2526. attend

  2527. service

  2528. on

  2529. Sunday

  2530. I

  2531. want

  2532. the

  2533. progress

  2534. and

  2535. joy

  2536. of

  2537. their

  2538. faith

  2539. and

  2540. then

  2541. finally

  2542. he

  2543. was

  2544. committed

  2545. to

  2546. the

  2547. glory

  2548. of

  2549. Christ

  2550. verse

  2551. 26

  2552. that

  2553. you're

  2554. rejoicing

  2555. may be

  2556. more

  2557. abundant

  2558. in

  2559. Jesus

  2560. Christ

  2561. for

  2562. me

  2563. by

  2564. my

  2565. coming

  2566. to

  2567. you

  2568. again

  2569. he

  2570. knew

  2571. that

  2572. as

  2573. much

  2574. as

  2575. he

  2576. wanted

  2577. to

  2578. go

  2579. to

  2580. heaven

  2581. these

  2582. people

  2583. were

  2584. praying

  2585. hard

  2586. that

  2587. he

  2588. would

  2589. be

  2590. released

  2591. and

  2592. if

  2593. the

  2594. Lord

  2595. answered

  2596. !

  2597. that

  2598. prayer

  2599. it

  2600. would

  2601. only

  2602. cause

  2603. them

  2604. to

  2605. stay

  2606. on

  2607. this

  2608. earth

  2609. for

  2610. a

  2611. little

  2612. while

  2613. longer

  2614. and

  2615. suffer

  2616. for

  2617. a

  2618. little

  2619. while

  2620. longer

  2621. he

  2622. would

  2623. do

  2624. that

  2625. why

  2626. because

  2627. to

  2628. him

  2629. to

  2630. live

  2631. was

  2632. Christ

  2633. and

  2634. to

  2635. die

  2636. was

  2637. gain

  2638. so

  2639. we

  2640. conclude

  2641. that

  2642. Paul

  2643. truly

  2644. did

  2645. view

  2646. his

  2647. future

  2648. whether

  2649. it

  2650. meant

  2651. life

  2652. or

  2653. death

  2654. with

  2655. great

  2656. joy

  2657. and

  2658. that

  2659. wasn't

  2660. founded

  2661. on

  2662. the

  2663. power

  2664. of

  2665. positive

  2666. thinking

  2667. but

  2668. on

  2669. the

  2670. realization

  2671. that

  2672. in

  2673. Christ

  2674. he

  2675. could

  2676. not

  2677. lose

  2678. circumstances

  2679. might

  2680. not

  2681. have

  2682. been

  2683. ideal

  2684. but

  2685. he

  2686. was

  2687. serving

  2688. the

  2689. purposes

  2690. of

  2691. God

  2692. and

  2693. his

  2694. joy

  2695. was

  2696. represented

  2697. in

  2698. that

  2699. certainty

  2700. commitment

  2701. and

  2702. willing

  2703. heart

  2704. let's

  2705. pray

  2706. thank you
