  7. When our daughters were just babies and young kids,

  8. I can remember Julie changing their eating patterns at various stages of their growth.

  9. There came a time when even as young babies where the milk alone was insufficient in and of itself

  10. to be necessary for their continued health and natural growth as little baby human beings.

  11. So I remember Julie at first with each of them beginning to supplement their milk

  12. with this disgusting watery substance that she tried to convince me was cereal.

  13. That's what she said it was at least.

  14. I don't think it was cereal.

  15. It was something nasty looking.

  16. But whatever it was, it had a certain amount of nutrients in it that was able to supplement

  17. the milk that the girls were getting so that they were able to continue to grow and feel more full

  18. and get the nutrients that they needed that maybe the milk didn't quite provide.

  19. But there came a time when this quote unquote cereal was also insufficient.

  20. And so it wasn't that they could just have the milk and the cereal now.

  21. They needed something else.

  22. And so Julie would go by the jars or she would get a blender and she would put some green beans

  23. in a blender and she blended up until it was real nice and mushy and gross.

  24. And she would begin feeding the kids more solid foods in that way.

  25. And eventually that wasn't enough.

  26. And they worked into chopped up proteins and then so on and so forth until they got to be

  27. the age that they are now.

  28. And they pretty much eat anything and everything that they want to eat.

  29. They never gave up milk.

  30. In fact, even still today, you're going to see Ashlyn or not Ashlyn, but Harper most of the time,

  31. if she's going to ask for a drink, she's going to ask for milk.

  32. But even as babies and as young kids, there was never a time where they gave up milk completely.

  33. In fact, most of the time when you saw them as young children, even toddlers,

  34. they had a bottle of milk somewhere around in the stroller or in their hand or in their bag.

  35. They always had something like that, even though their regular meal and the regular nutrients

  36. that they got was coming from the chopped up chicken or the mushed up peas or whatever it was

  37. that they had at that particular season.

  38. But no matter how prevalent the milk was, no matter how necessary the milk was to their diet,

  39. ultimately, it was still insufficient in and of itself to continue to help them as they grew

  40. and to continue to give them the nourishment and the nutrients that they needed.

  41. The early church was fighting a form of false Christianity that viewed the doctrine of Jesus Christ

  42. in a similar way to my girl's diet.

  43. The teaching of Christ was certainly present and it was even prevalent and predominant in their theology.

  44. But they viewed Jesus as insufficient in and of himself to provide salvation apart from

  45. their own religious works, their moral deeds, and their own especially Jewish structures.

  46. The church leaders in the New Testament fought this and they contended with these people,

  47. confronting the deception over and over as we read the Bible.

  48. And we looked at many of those instances last week.

  49. The New Testament writers warn of the false teaching time and again,

  50. and Jesus confronted them head on.

  51. And even taught that our enemy, Satan, is insistent on inserting counterfeits

  52. every time that God starts a truth or plants a truth.

  53. We see that in the parable of Matthew 13.

  54. God plants the seed of his word and he begins to grow into wheat according to the parable.

  55. But during the night, the enemy comes along and sows tares among the wheat.

  56. And it takes time for the wheat and the tares to grow.

  57. And even in the earlier stages of their growth, they look exactly the same.

  58. It's impossible to tell the difference between what's the wheat and what's the tare.

  59. They look the same on the outside.

  60. They use the same language.

  61. They use the same Christian verbiage.

  62. All the things look very similar.

  63. But the longer that they continue to grow, the more evident it becomes

  64. which one is the true and which one is the false.

  65. And so Jesus confronted this over and over.

  66. Well, the false teachers that Paul anticipated being a problem to the Philippian church,

  67. we talked about last week, are known as Judaizers.

  68. And their deception wasn't always easy to notice because their language was very Christian.

  69. They didn't deny the person and work of Jesus Christ.

  70. They actually believed that Jesus was the Son of God.

  71. They believed that Jesus died a death that in some way or form helped atone for the sins of mankind.

  72. They believed in the power of his resurrection.

  73. They believed that he really did raise from the dead.

  74. And it was a part of their theology.

  75. It wasn't that they taught that Jesus was bad or that he was wrong.

  76. What was so deceptive is that they taught that Jesus just wasn't enough.

  77. They insisted that through Jesus had to be supplemented by conformity to the Old Testament law.

  78. And they had a particular fixation on two components of that law.

  79. One was circumcision and the other was certain dietary restrictions.

  80. They believed that because of their obedience to this religious code,

  81. that they were in fact the true people of God.

  82. That those who would just accept Jesus and his teaching and his death and his resurrection alone

  83. were not actually the true people of God.

  84. That you must also take that knowledge of Jesus,

  85. pair it with religious works and conformity to the Old Testament law

  86. in order to achieve true salvation.

  87. And so Paul uses the entire chapter of Philippians 3 to reemphasize what true Christianity is.

  88. And all the way through the chapter, he contrasts the true against the false.

  89. The true Christian versus the false Christian.

  90. As we have studied in these first three verses,

  91. he does that really head on as he confronts these Judaizers

  92. and their approach to the Philippian church.

  93. In verse number two, he deals with three warnings as it relates to these false teachers.

  94. And in verse number three, he highlights three identifying marks of a true Christian.

  95. The change of focus comes for us through a transitional phrase

  96. in which he proclaims that we are by implication the true circumcision.

  97. And of course, that comes just after he states in verse number two

  98. that these Judaizers were of the false circumcision.

  99. He uses the word concision.

  100. Let's read the verses together again just to refresh our memory

  101. and then we'll jump into our notes for the day.

  102. Finally, my brethren, in verse one, rejoice in the Lord.

  103. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous,

  104. but for you it is safe.

  105. Here's the warning.

  106. Beware of dogs.

  107. Beware of evil workers.

  108. Beware of the concision.

  109. For we are the circumcision.

  110. By implication here, you could put in brackets,

  111. we are the true circumcision.

  112. Which worship God in the spirit,

  113. rejoice in Christ Jesus,

  114. and have no confidence in the flesh.

  115. Three warnings against the false.

  116. Three truly identifying marks of the true Christian.

  117. Now, before we jump into the three marks,

  118. I want to take just a moment to once again trace a few instances

  119. where the New Testament writers confronted this false teaching.

  120. In fact, we could go to a number of different places

  121. and look at all of the defenses that they made

  122. in defense of justification by faith alone in Jesus Christ.

  123. The first one is in Romans chapter four.

  124. It's really the first 12 verses.

  125. Romans chapter four in the first 12 verses.

  126. Paul uses a defense against this false doctrine

  127. that specifically points out the fact

  128. that Abraham was saved prior to his circumcision.

  129. The Judaizers and the Jews especially,

  130. they correlated their place in God's family

  131. as the children of God

  132. with also being synonymous with being the children of Abraham.

  133. They took great pride in their national heritage.

  134. And they believed that just being the children of Abraham,

  135. which was seen in the surgical operation of circumcision,

  136. or at least as a woman would be believed this to be,

  137. it would be a matter of their intellectual thought

  138. and their belief and their faith and their heart.

  139. They believed that this is what made them

  140. the true children of God.

  141. But Paul points out in Romans chapter four

  142. that Abraham was actually counted as righteous before God

  143. on the basis of his faith

  144. prior to him taking the sign of circumcision.

  145. So Paul's first defense against the Jews and the Judaizers

  146. was even the very one that you say you belong to in Abraham

  147. was not even saved by circumcision or obedience to the law.

  148. The law did not even come to be in existence

  149. for hundreds of years after Abraham.

  150. And his own obedience to God's command for circumcision

  151. for he and those that would follow him

  152. came after God had already declared him righteous.

  153. Let me read a portion of it to you.

  154. Paul writes,

  155. And then he illustrates that.

  156. Paul says,

  157. In other words,

  158. those who work for their salvation,

  159. salvation is not actually a gift of grace.

  160. It is actually in some way an indebtedness that God has

  161. for the individual that has compiled his good works.

  162. And so Paul says,

  163. simple logic tells you that work salvation

  164. has nothing to do with God's grace.

  165. But to him that worketh not,

  166. but believeth on him that justifies the ungodly,

  167. his faith is counted for righteousness.

  168. And then if he skipped down just a few verses,

  169. if you happen to turn to it,

  170. he goes on and he says,

  171. Cometh this blessedness then by the circumcision only

  172. or upon the uncircumcision also

  173. to those who are circumcised or also to the Gentile?

  174. And then he answers,

  175. For we say that faith was counted to Abraham for righteousness.

  176. And how was it counted?

  177. Not in circumcision,

  178. but in uncircumcision.

  179. So Paul's first defense against these Judaizers

  180. is the very one that you even claim to follow in this

  181. was counted as righteous before God

  182. before actually obeying the law.

  183. Now then this is in conjunction with Romans chapter two.

  184. Write down that reference.

  185. You can check it later.

  186. Romans chapter two,

  187. verses 25 to 29.

  188. In this defense,

  189. Paul mentions that the true people of God

  190. is not a matter of national heritage,

  191. nor is it a matter of religious affiliation.

  192. The true people of God is a matter of the heart.

  193. Here's what he says as a part of that section of verses.

  194. He says,

  195. For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly,

  196. nor is circumcision outward and physical.

  197. But a Jew is one inwardly.

  198. And circumcision is a matter of the heart

  199. by the spirit,

  200. not by the letter.

  201. So Paul's first defense in Romans four

  202. is Abraham was justified before God.

  203. He was counted as righteous before God

  204. on the basis of his faith prior to his obedience.

  205. And then his second defense is,

  206. being the true people of God

  207. is not a matter of your affiliation

  208. or of your heritage.

  209. The true people of God is a matter of the heart.

  210. Now Paul mentioned in the book of Galatians,

  211. in fact, the entire letter of Galatians

  212. is written to confront the Judaizers

  213. and their assault on the churches

  214. in the region of Galatia.

  215. In fact, if you really want to dig deep

  216. into how Paul confronted this specifically

  217. in his churches,

  218. start with the book of Galatians.

  219. It will tell you so much there.

  220. But in chapter two,

  221. Paul mentions two things

  222. as a part of this defense.

  223. One, he says that if the Judaizers are right,

  224. then Jesus is a liar.

  225. And then he says,

  226. if the Judaizers are right,

  227. then the death of Christ is pointless

  228. and it's in vain.

  229. Here's what he says in Galatians two.

  230. He says,

  231. but if while we seek to be justified by Christ,

  232. we ourselves also are found sinners,

  233. is therefore Christ the minister of sin?

  234. God forbid.

  235. When Paul was writing to the Galatians,

  236. the Judaizers he was dealing with there

  237. weren't as focused on circumcision

  238. as they were focused on dietary restrictions.

  239. And as he's writing to these Galatian churches,

  240. he brings up a specific instance

  241. when Peter falters

  242. and he begins to capitulate

  243. to some of the Judaizers

  244. in order to save face

  245. in front of the Judaizers

  246. that had come from Jerusalem.

  247. He separates himself from the Gentiles

  248. and he begins to associate with them instead.

  249. Before the Judaizers had shown up,

  250. Peter was happy to participate

  251. in all of the eating

  252. of whatever food he wanted to eat

  253. with the Gentiles.

  254. And he enjoyed it

  255. and he liked it

  256. and he reveled in it

  257. because that was his freedom in Christ.

  258. But as soon as the Judaizers showed up,

  259. he got insecure

  260. about eating things

  261. that were against the dietary restrictions.

  262. And so he left the Gentiles

  263. and he stuck closely to the Judaizers,

  264. making it seem like

  265. he was agreeing with them

  266. about salvation coming on part by works.

  267. So Paul's confronting that

  268. specifically to the Galatians.

  269. When he writes in this verse,

  270. he says that if those of us

  271. who follow Christ

  272. and by implication

  273. eat whatever we want to eat

  274. because Christ has lifted

  275. these dietary laws,

  276. if that means that we're actually sinners

  277. because we've done that,

  278. then you have actually made Christ a liar.

  279. Because in Mark chapter eight,

  280. Jesus made it very clear.

  281. What goes into the body

  282. does not defile a man,

  283. but that which cometh out of the body

  284. defiles a man.

  285. For from within the heart

  286. is adulteries and fornications

  287. and murders and licentiousness

  288. and a whole list of things

  289. that Jesus goes through.

  290. And his whole point was

  291. what goes into the body

  292. isn't a matter of defilement

  293. as far as I'm concerned.

  294. It's actually what is in the heart of a man.

  295. And so Paul writes and he says,

  296. if you're going to demand

  297. these types of restrictions,

  298. what you end up doing

  299. is making Christ a liar.

  300. And then in the last verse

  301. of that section of verse 21,

  302. he says,

  303. I do not frustrate the grace of God

  304. for if righteousness came by the law,

  305. then Christ is dead in vain.

  306. If it was possible for us

  307. to earn salvation in some way,

  308. even with religious commitment,

  309. even if knowledge intellectually

  310. of Jesus Christ is a part of that,

  311. then what was the point

  312. in Jesus's death?

  313. If his death was insufficient

  314. to make an atonement for our sin,

  315. then what was the point

  316. in it to begin with?

  317. So if you're going to attach a legalism

  318. to the doctrines of Christ,

  319. what you end up doing

  320. is rendering the doctrine of Christ

  321. and his death as vain and pointless.

  322. And then the last one I'll give you

  323. before we jump into verse three

  324. is perhaps the most famous dealing

  325. with this evil doctrine.

  326. It's in Acts 15.

  327. Write that down.

  328. Acts 15.

  329. If you've studied the book of Acts recently,

  330. you know that this is

  331. the Jerusalem council.

  332. This topic of circumcision

  333. and dietary laws

  334. had come up

  335. among many of the churches.

  336. And in the early church,

  337. they were navigating

  338. how they needed to approach it

  339. and what the truth was about it.

  340. In Acts chapter 15,

    Acts 15 chapter mention

  341. Peter is the one

  342. that ends up making

  343. the defense of justification

  344. by faith in Christ alone.

  345. Here's what happened.

  346. Verse number seven.

  347. When there had been much disputing,

  348. Peter rose up

  349. and said unto them,

  350. men and brethren,

  351. you know how that a good while ago

  352. God made choice among us

  353. that the Gentiles by my mouth

  354. should hear the word of the gospel

  355. and believe.

  356. He's referencing a man named Cornelius,

  357. a Gentile who had come to faith

  358. because of the preaching of Peter.

  359. Peter witnessed it

  360. apart from the law,

  361. apart from circumcision,

  362. apart from dietary restriction.

  363. Peter witnessed it

  364. and the Holy Spirit

  365. confirmed it on the man's life.

  366. And so Peter goes on to say,

  367. and God,

  368. which knows the heart,

  369. bear them witness,

  370. giving them the Holy Ghost,

  371. even as he did unto us

  372. as Jews that believed.

  373. And God put no difference

  374. between us and them,

  375. purifying their heart

  376. by faith.

  377. faith.

  378. And then he confronts the Judaizers

  379. and he says,

  380. now therefore,

  381. why tempt ye God

  382. to put a yoke upon the neck

  383. of the disciples,

  384. which neither our fathers

  385. nor we were able to bear.

  386. But we believe that through the grace

  387. of the Lord Jesus Christ alone,

  388. we shall be saved,

  389. even as they shall be saved.

  390. Then all the multitude

  391. kept silence

  392. and gave audience

  393. to Barnabas and Paul,

  394. declaring as they did

  395. what miracles and wonders

  396. God had wrought

  397. among the Gentiles

  398. by them.

  399. Here's the final defense

  400. and the most powerful defense.

  401. That Gentile conversion

  402. in Acts 15

  403. had been confirmed

  404. by the Holy Spirit

  405. apart from the law.

  406. Peter says,

  407. you know,

  408. you have heard the stories,

  409. Barnabas and Paul

  410. give representation

  411. to theirs as well.

  412. How that they went

  413. and they preached the gospel

  414. to the Gentiles,

  415. not only did they believe,

  416. but apart from circumcision

  417. and apart from dietary restriction,

  418. apart from conformity

  419. to the Old Testament law,

  420. not only did they believe,

  421. but God demonstrated

  422. his acceptance

  423. of their faith

  424. and their justification

  425. through Christ alone

  426. by giving them

  427. the Holy Spirit

  428. and showing us signs

  429. of the power

  430. of the Holy Spirit

  431. on their life.

  432. So Peter and Paul

  433. and Barnabas

  434. come to this Jerusalem council

  435. in Acts 15

  436. and they say,

  437. we gotta leave off

  438. these restrictions.

  439. This legalism

  440. is not necessary.

  441. These people

  442. are believing

  443. the same way

  444. that we believe

  445. and accept

  446. and apart from circumcision,

  447. apart from the law,

  448. the Holy Spirit

  449. is demonstrating

  450. his power

  451. as would only be evident

  452. in a redeemed,

  453. regenerate person.

  454. And so as we study

  455. the defense

  456. of the early church

  457. and the defenses

  458. of the early New Testament church,

  459. we begin to see

  460. how we too

  461. should defend

  462. the gospel

  463. of justification

  464. by Jesus Christ

  465. alone

  466. and faith in him.

  467. The same defenses

  468. that the early church used

  469. is the same defense

  470. that we are to use today.

  471. When someone approaches you

  472. with a Christian label

  473. that says,

  474. yeah,

  475. I'm a Christian,

  476. yeah,

  477. I believe Jesus.

  478. Yes,

  479. I pray to Jesus.

  480. Yes,

  481. I believe in his death.

  482. Yes,

  483. I believe in his resurrection.

  484. The test is not

  485. in their intellectual knowledge.

  486. The test is,

  487. is it Jesus Christ alone

  488. that you trust?

  489. And if they say

  490. my salvation

  491. is found in Christ

  492. plus my baptism,

  493. that's a false Christian.

  494. They're strapping

  495. on the works of the law

  496. to the gospel of grace

  497. and they render Christ's death

  498. as insignificant and vain.

  499. And if they say,

  500. yes,

  501. I trust in Christ

  502. but I have also prayed

  503. through my rosary

  504. and I've had this system

  505. of prayers

  506. and I've lit a number

  507. of candles

  508. and I've gone through

  509. a number of processes

  510. and I've done the catechisms

  511. and I've done the Eucharist

  512. and I've done the communion

  513. and I've done all the things

  514. and I go on visitation

  515. and I share about Jesus

  516. to other people

  517. and I serve the poor

  518. and I help the widow

  519. and I help the orphan.

  520. If they attach anything at all

  521. to Jesus Christ alone

  522. for salvation,

  523. it is not a true Christian.

  524. And what they end up doing

  525. without intention

  526. is they make Christ a liar

  527. and they render his death

  528. pointless and vain.

  529. So when you approach people

  530. in your life

  531. and a witness

  532. and they tell you,

  533. yes, salvation is by this

  534. but it's also by this.

  535. These are the defenses

  536. that we use.

  537. Not the defenses

  538. of our own logic,

  539. the defenses

  540. of the Bible

  541. and the defenses

  542. of the church

  543. that have stood

  544. the test of time.

  545. How can you know

  546. the false versus the true?

  547. You get really familiar

  548. with what the real thing is.

  549. So Paul uses verse number two

  550. to say warning,

  551. beware of dogs,

  552. beware of evil workers,

  553. beware of the concision.

  554. And then he says,

  555. get to know the truth.

  556. And the more familiar

  557. you are with the truth,

  558. the easier it's going to be

  559. to spot the counterfeit.

  560. Some of the counterfeits

  561. are elaborate

  562. and they're difficult

  563. and it's hard

  564. to wade through it.

  565. But Paul gives us

  566. one of the most

  567. comprehensive descriptions here

  568. of what a true Christian is

  569. in all of the Bible.

  570. And he says,

  571. here is the true Christian.

  572. Here's the marks.

  573. Here's how you know

  574. the difference

  575. between the counterfeit

  576. and the true.

  577. They worship God

  578. in the spirit.

  579. They rejoice

  580. in Jesus Christ.

  581. They take no confidence

  582. in the flesh.

  583. They worship God

  584. in the spirit.

  585. They have no confidence

  586. in the flesh

  587. and they joy

  588. in Christ

  589. Jesus.

  590. notice that

  591. these marks

  592. do not produce

  593. salvation.

  594. Did you notice

  595. the difference

  596. between the false marks

  597. and the true marks?

  598. Look with me again

  599. in verse number two.

  600. Beware of dogs,

  601. beware of evil workers,

  602. beware of the concision.

  603. For we are the

  604. true circumcision,

  605. which worship God

  606. in the spirit,

  607. rejoice in Christ Jesus

  608. and have no confidence

  609. in the flesh.

  610. The marks

  611. of the true

  612. do not speak

  613. of what you do.

  614. The things

  615. in verse number three

  616. are not things

  617. that you do.

  618. They're not actionable.

  619. They don't speak

  620. of function.

  621. They speak

  622. of attitude,

  623. of spirit.

  624. They don't produce

  625. salvation.

  626. They only give evidence

  627. of an inward reality.

  628. But each of these

  629. three marks

  630. do represent

  631. a different facet

  632. of our response

  633. to the gospel.

  634. And that's how

  635. I want to frame it.

  636. First thing,

  637. write it down quickly.

  638. True worship.

  639. True worship.

  640. It's the first mark.

  641. Worship God

  642. in the spirit.

  643. Christians are

  644. fundamentally

  645. worshipers

  646. of God.

  647. In fact,

  648. that's the whole

  649. purpose of salvation.

  650. God has made it

  651. possible for us

  652. to bring him

  653. the glory

  654. that we were

  655. created to give.

  656. And through

  657. the imputed

  658. righteousness

  659. of Christ

  660. by faith,

  661. we are then

  662. made to be

  663. true worshipers

  664. by the indwelling

  665. power of the

  666. Holy Spirit.

  667. But there's a lot

  668. of confusion

  669. about what

  670. worship actually

  671. is.

  672. The Judaizers

  673. would have said,

  674. of course we

  675. worship.

  676. We worship

  677. faithfully

  678. and committedly.

  679. But worship

  680. is not a mere

  681. external practice

  682. of religious

  683. rituals

  684. that takes place

  685. in a specific

  686. dynamic

  687. or place.

  688. True worship

  689. is a matter

  690. of the heart

  691. and is ultimately

  692. exercised in our

  693. spirit before

  694. ever being

  695. demonstrated

  696. in an outward

  697. form.

  698. True worship

  699. is not what

  700. you do.

  701. It is your

  702. response to

  703. who God is

  704. and what

  705. he has

  706. done.

  707. Many Christians

  708. define worship

  709. in a way

  710. that is only

  711. meant to be

  712. an element

  713. of praise

  714. or recognition.

  715. For instance,

  716. many only think

  717. of singing

  718. when they

  719. consider worship.

  720. Churches will

  721. have a staff

  722. member that they

  723. call the worship

  724. pastor and really

  725. what it is is the

  726. music director.

  727. It's their song

  728. leader.

  729. But what they

  730. correlate in their

  731. minds to worship

  732. is really just

  733. limited down

  734. to singing.

  735. But true worship

  736. is really a matter

  737. of how you live

  738. your life.

  739. It's all

  740. encompassing

  741. in the thoughts

  742. and actions

  743. of a true

  744. Christian.

  745. It's our

  746. response to

  747. the wonderful

  748. grace of God

  749. that has been

  750. given to us

  751. in the gospel.

  752. Our worship

  753. does not provide

  754. salvation.

  755. It's a response

  756. to our

  757. salvation.

  758. For the true

  759. Christian,

  760. every moment

  761. of your life

  762. is an act

  763. of worship.

  764. every decision

  765. we make

  766. is to be a

  767. response to

  768. the character

  769. of God

  770. and what he

  771. has done

  772. for us

  773. in Jesus

  774. Christ.

  775. And limiting

  776. worship

  777. to an external

  778. ritual

  779. actually angers

  780. God.

  781. Samuel wrote

  782. that he told

  783. King Saul

  784. that hath the

  785. Lord as great

  786. delight in burnt

  787. offerings and

  788. sacrifices as in

  789. obeying the voice

  790. of the Lord?

  791. He says,

  792. behold,

  793. to obey

  794. is better

  795. than sacrifice

  796. and to

  797. hearken

  798. than the fat

  799. of rams.

  800. Turn with me

  801. quickly.

  802. I want you to

  803. see this.

  804. Isaiah chapter

  805. one.

  806. Isaiah chapter

  807. one.

  808. Listen to what

  809. God says to

  810. the nation of

  811. Israel.

  812. Isaiah chapter

  813. one,

  814. verse number

  815. 11.

  816. Verse number

  817. 11.

  818. God says,

  819. to what

  820. purpose

  821. is the

  822. multitude

  823. of your

  824. sacrifices

  825. unto me?

  826. That was

  827. the external

  828. worship.

  829. That was

  830. the way

  831. they went

  832. through their

  833. worship

  834. rituals,

  835. sacrifices,

  836. the whole

  837. system,

  838. celebrations,

  839. festivals,

  840. the new

  841. moons,

  842. all of

  843. these things

  844. God had

  845. outlined in

  846. the law

  847. for them

  848. to observe.

  849. But he

  850. says,

  851. to what

  852. purpose

  853. is the

  854. multitude

  855. of your

  856. sacrifices

  857. unto me?

  858. Sayeth

  859. the Lord.

  860. I am

  861. full of

  862. burnt

  863. offerings

  864. of

  865. rams.

  866. In other

  867. words,

  868. I am

  869. sick and

  870. tired of

  871. burnt

  872. offerings

  873. of

  874. rams

  875. and the

  876. fat

  877. of

  878. fed

  879. beasts

  880. and I

  881. delight

  882. not

  883. in the

  884. blood

  885. of

  886. bulls

  887. or of

  888. lambs

  889. or of

  890. e goats.

  891. When you

  892. come to

  893. appear

  894. before me,

  895. who hath

  896. required

  897. this at

  898. your hand

  899. to tread

  900. my

  901. courts?

  902. Bring

  903. no more

  904. vain

  905. oblations.

  906. Incense

  907. is an

  908. abomination

  909. to me,

  910. God says.

  911. The new

  912. moons

  913. even

  914. the

  915. solemn

  916. meeting.

  917. Solemn

  918. meeting,

  919. a reference

  920. to the

  921. holiest

  922. of days.

  923. Day of

  924. atonement.

  925. Your

  926. new

  927. moons

  928. and your

  929. appointed

  930. feast

  931. my soul

  932. hates.

  933. They are

  934. a trouble

  935. unto me.

  936. I am

  937. weary

  938. to bear

  939. them.

  940. And when

  941. you spread

  942. forth your

  943. hands,

  944. that is

  945. in praise

  946. and in

  947. song,

  948. I will

  949. hide

  950. my eyes

  951. from you.

  952. Yea,

  953. when you

  954. make many

  955. prayers,

  956. I will

  957. not hear

  958. you.

  959. Your

  960. hands

  961. are full

  962. of blood.

  963. Wash

  964. you,

  965. make

  966. you clean,

  967. put away

  968. the evil

  969. of your

  970. doings

  971. from before

  972. mine eyes.

  973. Cease

  974. to do

  975. evil.

  976. Learn

  977. to do

  978. well.

  979. Seek

  980. judgment.

  981. Relieve

  982. the

  983. oppressed.

  984. Judge

  985. the

  986. fathers.

  987. Plead

  988. for the

  989. widow.

  990. And

  991. then he

  992. says,

  993. come

  994. now

  995. and let

  996. us

  997. reason

  998. together,

  999. saith

  1000. the

  1001. Lord.

  1002. Though

  1003. your

  1004. sins

  1005. be as

  1006. scarlet,

  1007. they

  1008. shall

  1009. be

  1010. as

  1011. white

  1012. as

  1013. snow.

  1014. Though

  1015. they

  1016. be

  1017. red

  1018. like

  1019. crimson,

  1020. they

  1021. shall

  1022. be

  1023. as

  1024. wool.

  1025. What's

  1026. the

  1027. whole

  1028. point

  1029. in what

  1030. God

  1031. is

  1032. telling

  1033. the

  1034. nation

  1035. of

  1036. Israel

  1037. there?

  1038. He

  1039. says,

  1040. all of

  1041. this

  1042. external

  1043. stuff

  1044. you're

  1045. doing,

  1046. I

  1047. don't

  1048. care

  1049. about

  1050. it.

  1051. Keep

  1052. your

  1053. sacrifices,

  1054. keep

  1055. your

  1056. incense,

  1057. keep

  1058. your

  1059. new

  1060. moons,

  1061. keep

  1062. your

  1063. festivals,

  1064. keep

  1065. your

  1066. holy

  1067. days.

  1068. I

  1069. don't

  1070. care

  1071. about

  1072. the

  1073. external

  1074. worship.

  1075. What I

  1076. care

  1077. about

  1078. is

  1079. your

  1080. heart.

  1081. And

  1082. if

  1083. you

  1084. will

  1085. come

  1086. to

  1087. me

  1088. in

  1089. faith

  1090. and

  1091. you

  1092. will

  1093. trust

  1094. me

  1095. and

  1096. you

  1097. will

  1098. call

  1099. out

  1100. to

  1101. me

  1102. then

  1103. I

  1104. will

  1105. accept

  1106. your

  1107. sacrifice.

  1108. Then

  1109. I

  1110. will

  1111. accept

  1112. the

  1113. new

  1114. moons

  1115. and

  1116. the

  1117. Sabbath.

  1118. Then

  1119. I

  1120. will

  1121. take

  1122. into

  1123. account

  1124. the

  1125. holy

  1126. days.

  1127. God

  1128. is

  1129. not

  1130. interested

  1131. in

  1132. mere

  1133. outward

  1134. forms

  1135. of

  1136. religious

  1137. worship.

  1138. He

  1139. is

  1140. interested

  1141. in

  1142. the

  1143. genuine

  1144. nature

  1145. of

  1146. your

  1147. heart

  1148. and

  1149. your

  1150. spirit.

  1151. So

  1152. Paul

  1153. says

  1154. the

  1155. first

  1156. indication

  1157. of

  1158. a

  1159. true

  1160. Christian

  1161. is

  1162. somebody

  1163. that

  1164. doesn't

  1165. worship

  1166. the

  1167. Lord

  1168. in

  1169. spirit.

  1170. The

  1171. Judaizers

  1172. cared

  1173. all

  1174. about

  1175. the

  1176. outward

  1177. part.

  1178. They

  1179. cared

  1180. about

  1181. the

  1182. circumcision

  1183. and

  1184. the

  1185. laws

  1186. and

  1187. they

  1188. cared

  1189. about

  1190. the

  1191. meetings

  1192. and

  1193. the

  1194. Sabbath

  1195. and

  1196. the

  1197. holy

  1198. days

  1199. and

  1200. the

  1201. festivals

  1202. and

  1203. all

  1204. the

  1205. things.

  1206. That's

  1207. what

  1208. they

  1209. cared

  1210. about.

  1211. That's

  1212. what

  1213. they

  1214. wanted.

  1215. But

  1216. God

  1217. said

  1218. that's

  1219. not

  1220. it.

  1221. Those

  1222. things

  1223. can't

  1224. help

  1225. you.

  1226. Those

  1227. things

  1228. are

  1229. to

  1230. be

  1231. a

  1232. sign

  1233. to

  1234. you

  1235. of

  1236. the

  1237. salvation

  1238. I

  1239. provide

  1240. alone

  1241. through

  1242. my

  1243. son

  1244. Jesus

  1245. Christ.

  1246. There's

  1247. a lot

  1248. of

  1249. people

  1250. that

  1251. say

  1252. they're

  1253. Christian

  1254. and

  1255. guess

  1256. what?

  1257. They

  1258. go to

  1259. church

  1260. every

  1261. single

  1262. Sunday.

  1263. They

  1264. don't

  1265. miss

  1266. a

  1267. Sunday.

  1268. They

  1269. will

  1270. find

  1271. their

  1272. place

  1273. in

  1274. worship

  1275. at

  1276. 10

  1277. o'clock

  1278. every

  1279. Sunday

  1280. morning.

  1281. They

  1282. will

  1283. sing

  1284. the

  1285. songs.

  1286. They

  1287. will

  1288. open

  1289. their

  1290. Bibles.

  1291. They

  1292. will

  1293. take

  1294. the

  1295. notes.

  1296. They

  1297. will

  1298. serve

  1299. in

  1300. the

  1301. ministries.

  1302. But

  1303. all

  1304. they

  1305. care

  1306. an

  1307. evidence

  1308. of

  1309. true

  1310. worship.

  1311. True

  1312. worship

  1313. is a

  1314. matter

  1315. of

  1316. your

  1317. spirit

  1318. towards

  1319. God.

  1320. And

  1321. while

  1322. we're

  1323. there,

  1324. I'll

  1325. just

  1326. mention

  1327. how

  1328. guilty

  1329. we

  1330. can

  1331. be

  1332. of

  1333. often

  1334. judging

  1335. the

  1336. sincerity

  1337. of

  1338. another

  1339. person's

  1340. heart

  1341. on

  1342. the

  1343. basis

  1344. of

  1345. their

  1346. outward

  1347. forms

  1348. of

  1349. worship.

  1350. How

  1351. guilty

  1352. are

  1353. we

  1354. as

  1355. Christians

  1356. of

  1357. judging

  1358. a

  1359. person

  1360. and

  1361. their

  1362. worship

  1363. on

  1364. the

  1365. basis

  1366. of

  1367. whether

  1368. or not

  1369. their

  1370. voice

  1371. is

  1372. loud

  1373. enough

  1374. and

  1375. their

  1376. hands

  1377. are

  1378. high

  1379. enough

  1380. or

  1381. their

  1382. tears

  1383. are

  1384. wet

  1385. enough.

  1386. And

  1387. when

  1388. we

  1389. do

  1390. that,

  1391. we

  1392. contribute

  1393. to

  1394. an

  1395. error

  1396. that

  1397. says

  1398. that

  1399. worship

  1400. is

  1401. summed

  1402. up

  1403. in

  1404. an

  1405. external

  1406. performance.

  1407. That's

  1408. not

  1409. true

  1410. worship.

  1411. True

  1412. worship

  1413. is a

  1414. matter

  1415. of

  1416. your

  1417. heart's

  1418. response

  1419. toward

  1420. God

  1421. and

  1422. it's

  1423. not

  1424. limited

  1425. to

  1426. a

  1427. church

  1428. service.

  1429. It

  1430. is

  1431. all

  1432. encompassing

  1433. every

  1434. moment

  1435. of

  1436. every

  1437. day

  1438. of

  1439. your

  1440. life.

  1441. So what

  1442. does

  1443. worshiping

  1444. God

  1445. in the

  1446. spirit

  1447. actually

  1448. mean?

  1449. In

  1450. contrast to

  1451. the

  1452. Judaizers

  1453. who

  1454. viewed

  1455. worship

  1456. as an

  1457. external

  1458. exercise,

  1459. true

  1460. Christians

  1461. are

  1462. concerned

  1463. with

  1464. their

  1465. spirit

  1466. towards

  1467. God.

  1468. God

  1469. I

  1470. will

  1471. have

  1472. you

  1473. turn

  1474. there

  1475. we

  1476. don't

  1477. have

  1478. time

  1479. now

  1480. but

  1481. if

  1482. you

  1483. write

  1484. down

  1485. John

  1486. chapter

  1487. four

  1488. John

  1489. chapter

  1490. four

  1491. Jesus

  1492. is

  1493. waiting

  1494. at a

  1495. well

  1496. in

  1497. Samaria

  1498. and a

  1499. woman

  1500. comes

  1501. to draw

  1502. water

  1503. and he

  1504. has

  1505. this

  1506. awesome

  1507. conversation

  1508. with this

  1509. lady

  1510. where she

  1511. ends

  1512. up

  1513. trusting

  1514. !

  1515. In the

  1516. midst

  1517. of this

  1518. conversation

  1519. she

  1520. says

  1521. I

  1522. perceive

  1523. that

  1524. you

  1525. are

  1526. a

  1527. prophet

  1528. you

  1529. worship

  1530. in

  1531. Jerusalem

  1532. we

  1533. worship

  1534. in

  1535. Mount

  1536. Gerizim

  1537. now

  1538. where's

  1539. their

  1540. true

  1541. right

  1542. place

  1543. to

  1544. worship

  1545. and

  1546. Jesus

  1547. says

  1548. you're

  1549. in

  1550. essence

  1551. he

  1552. says

  1553. you're

  1554. you're

  1555. too

  1556. focused

  1557. on

  1558. a

  1559. place

  1560. worship

  1561. is

  1562. not

  1563. about

  1564. a

  1565. place

  1566. he

  1567. says

  1568. the

  1569. day

  1570. is

  1571. coming

  1572. and

  1573. the

  1574. hour

  1575. draw

  1576. at

  1577. night

  1578. and

  1579. it

  1580. is

  1581. even

  1582. here

  1583. he

  1584. tells

  1585. the

  1586. lady

  1587. when

  1588. the

  1589. true

  1590. !

  1591. worshipers

  1592. will

  1593. worship

  1594. God

  1595. in

  1596. spirit

  1597. and

  1598. in

  1599. truth

  1600. what's

  1601. the

  1602. truth

  1603. it's

  1604. the

  1605. word

  1606. of

  1607. God

  1608. what's

  1609. the

  1610. spirit

  1611. our

  1612. hearts

  1613. response

  1614. towards

  1615. that

  1616. truth

  1617. you

  1618. say

  1619. well

  1620. I

  1621. worship

  1622. when

  1623. I

  1624. come

  1625. to

  1626. church

  1627. yeah

  1628. this

  1629. is

  1630. just

  1631. a

  1632. corporate

  1633. expression

  1634. if

  1635. this

  1636. is

  1637. what

  1638. you

  1639. consider

  1640. your

  1641. worship

  1642. it

  1643. is

  1644. far

  1645. lacking

  1646. your

  1647. worship

  1648. is

  1649. every

  1650. day

  1651. it's

  1652. every

  1653. decision

  1654. you

  1655. make

  1656. being

  1657. cognizant

  1658. of

  1659. the

  1660. fact

  1661. of

  1662. who

  1663. God

  1664. is

  1665. and

  1666. you

  1667. it

  1668. is

  1669. our

  1670. spirit

  1671. response

  1672. to

  1673. him

  1674. that's

  1675. true

  1676. worship

  1677. he

  1678. says

  1679. the

  1680. mark

  1681. is

  1682. true

  1683. worship

  1684. the

  1685. last

  1686. two

  1687. true

  1688. faith

  1689. and

  1690. true

  1691. repentance

  1692. true

  1693. faith

  1694. and

  1695. true

  1696. repentance

  1697. are

  1698. the

  1699. last

  1700. two

  1701. marks

  1702. he

  1703. says

  1704. rejoice

  1705. in

  1706. Christ

  1707. Jesus

  1708. that's

  1709. true

  1710. faith

  1711. and

  1712. he

  1713. says

  1714. they

  1715. have

  1716. no

  1717. confidence

  1718. in

  1719. the

  1720. flesh

  1721. these

  1722. are

  1723. really

  1724. two

  1725. sides

  1726. of

  1727. the

  1728. same

  1729. coin

  1730. the

  1731. mark

  1732. of

  1733. rejoicing

  1734. in

  1735. Christ

  1736. Jesus

  1737. has

  1738. to

  1739. do

  1740. with

  1741. our

  1742. faith

  1743. while

  1744. the

  1745. last

  1746. mark

  1747. has

  1748. to

  1749. do

  1750. with

  1751. what

  1752. we

  1753. leave

  1754. behind

  1755. in

  1756. order

  1757. to

  1758. follow

  1759. Christ

  1760. in

  1761. faith

  1762. word

  1763. rejoice

  1764. means

  1765. to

  1766. boast

  1767. and

  1768. it

  1769. ultimately

  1770. refers

  1771. to

  1772. who's

  1773. getting

  1774. the

  1775. credit

  1776. for

  1777. salvation

  1778. the

  1779. Judaizers

  1780. give

  1781. themselves

  1782. the

  1783. credit

  1784. because

  1785. they

  1786. did

  1787. everything

  1788. they

  1789. were

  1790. supposed

  1791. to

  1792. do

  1793. they

  1794. were

  1795. proud

  1796. that

  1797. they

  1798. followed

  1799. !

  1800. the

  1801. rules

  1802. the

  1803. true

  1804. Christian

  1805. gives

  1806. Christ

  1807. all

  1808. the

  1809. credit

  1810. it's

  1811. Paul

  1812. told

  1813. the

  1814. Corinthians

  1815. let

  1816. the

  1817. one

  1818. who

  1819. boast

  1820. !

  1821. boast

  1822. in

  1823. the

  1824. Lord

  1825. Jeremiah

  1826. said

  1827. thus

  1828. saith

  1829. the

  1830. Lord

  1831. let

  1832. not

  1833. the

  1834. wise

  1835. man

  1836. boast

  1837. in

  1838. his

  1839. wisdom

  1840. let

  1841. not

  1842. the

  1843. mighty

  1844. man

  1845. boast

  1846. in

  1847. his

  1848. might

  1849. let

  1850. not

  1851. the

  1852. rich

  1853. man

  1854. boast

  1855. in

  1856. his

  1857. riches

  1858. but

  1859. let

  1860. him

  1861. who

  1862. boast

  1863. boast

  1864. in

  1865. this

  1866. that

  1867. he

  1868. understands

  1869. and

  1870. knows

  1871. me

  1872. God

  1873. says

  1874. that

  1875. I

  1876. am

  1877. the

  1878. Lord

  1879. who

  1880. practices

  1881. steadfast

  1882. love

  1883. and

  1884. justice

  1885. and

  1886. righteousness

  1887. in

  1888. the

  1889. earth

  1890. for

  1891. I

  1892. delight

  1893. in

  1894. these

  1895. things

  1896. declares

  1897. the

  1898. Lord

  1899. what

  1900. is

  1901. true

  1902. faith

  1903. true

  1904. faith

  1905. is

  1906. acknowledging

  1907. that

  1908. it's

  1909. actually

  1910. only

  1911. of

  1912. Christ

  1913. that

  1914. you

  1915. can

  1916. be

  1917. saved

  1918. the

  1919. battle

  1920. between

  1921. the

  1922. true

  1923. Christians

  1924. and

  1925. the

  1926. false

  1927. Christians

  1928. in

  1929. the

  1930. early

  1931. church

  1932. had

  1933. to

  1934. do

  1935. with

  1936. what

  1937. made

  1938. a

  1939. person

  1940. righteous

  1941. before

  1942. God

  1943. the

  1944. Judaizers

  1945. believed

  1946. it was

  1947. their

  1948. own

  1949. goodness

  1950. the

  1951. true

  1952. Christian

  1953. recognizes

  1954. that

  1955. that's

  1956. futile

  1957. and

  1958. that

  1959. it's

  1960. actually

  1961. only

  1962. Christ

  1963. that

  1964. can

  1965. truly

  1966. make

  1967. you

  1968. righteous

  1969. before

  1970. God

  1971. so

  1972. then

  1973. the

  1974. true

  1975. Christian

  1976. does

  1977. not

  1978. boast

  1979. in

  1980. what

  1981. they

  1982. do

  1983. they

  1984. boast

  1985. only

  1986. in

  1987. what

  1988. Christ

  1989. has

  1990. done

  1991. there's

  1992. a

  1993. song

  1994. that

  1995. I

  1996. know

  1997. that

  1998. we'll

  1999. sing

  2000. here

  2001. at

  2002. some

  2003. point

  2004. I'm

  2005. sure

  2006. it's

  2007. called

  2008. my

  2009. worth

  2010. is

  2011. not

  2012. in

  2013. what

  2014. I

  2015. own

  2016. some

  2017. of

  2018. the

  2019. lyrics

  2020. say

  2021. this

  2022. two

  2023. wonders

  2024. here

  2025. that

  2026. I

  2027. confess

  2028. my

  2029. worth

  2030. and

  2031. my

  2032. unworthiness

  2033. my

  2034. value

  2035. fixed

  2036. my

  2037. ransom

  2038. paid

  2039. at

  2040. the

  2041. cross

  2042. the

  2043. writer

  2044. says

  2045. that

  2046. on

  2047. one

  2048. side

  2049. I

  2050. am

  2051. immeasurably

  2052. worthy

  2053. and valuable

  2054. to

  2055. my

  2056. savior

  2057. Jesus

  2058. Christ

  2059. but

  2060. in

  2061. reality

  2062. I

  2063. know

  2064. that

  2065. I'm

  2066. worthless

  2067. because

  2068. I

  2069. come

  2070. to

  2071. him

  2072. empty

  2073. handed

  2074. with

  2075. nothing

  2076. to

  2077. offer

  2078. and

  2079. then

  2080. it

  2081. crescendos

  2082. into

  2083. this

  2084. praise

  2085. in

  2086. the

  2087. chorus

  2088. it

  2089. says

  2090. I

  2091. rejoice

  2092. in

  2093. my

  2094. redeemer

  2095. greatest

  2096. treasure

  2097. wellspring

  2098. of my

  2099. soul

  2100. I

  2101. will

  2102. trust

  2103. in

  2104. him

  2105. no

  2106. other

  2107. my

  2108. soul

  2109. is

  2110. satisfied

  2111. in

  2112. him

  2113. alone

  2114. where

  2115. is

  2116. your

  2117. boast

  2118. where

  2119. is

  2120. your

  2122. is

  2123. your

  2124. satisfaction

  2125. found

  2126. in

  2127. that

  2128. you've

  2129. completed

  2130. the

  2131. religious

  2132. list

  2133. of

  2134. things

  2135. you're

  2136. supposed

  2137. to

  2138. do

  2139. or

  2140. is

  2141. your

  2142. satisfaction

  2143. found

  2145. what

  2146. Christ

  2147. has

  2148. done

  2149. for

  2150. you

  2151. and

  2152. then

  2153. finally

  2154. as

  2155. true

  2156. repentance

  2157. have

  2158. no

  2159. confidence

  2160. in

  2161. the

  2162. flesh

  2163. and

  2164. certainly

  2165. is

  2166. logical

  2167. we don't

  2168. have to

  2169. spend

  2170. a lot

  2171. of

  2172. time

  2173. here

  2174. the

  2175. true

  2176. Christian

  2177. leaves

  2178. behind

  2179. every

  2180. single

  2181. good

  2182. work

  2183. and

  2184. religious

  2185. effort

  2186. in

  2187. order

  2188. to

  2189. follow

  2190. Christ

  2191. Jesus

  2192. said

  2193. that

  2194. in

  2195. order

  2196. to

  2197. follow

  2198. him

  2199. we

  2200. must

  2201. deny

  2202. ourselves

  2203. and

  2204. this

  2205. denial

  2206. includes

  2207. every

  2208. personal

  2209. effort

  2210. in

  2211. earning

  2212. salvation

  2213. this

  2214. isn't

  2215. something

  2216. you do

  2217. it's

  2218. an

  2219. evidence

  2220. of

  2221. your

  2222. spirit

  2223. that

  2224. as

  2225. you

  2226. exercise

  2227. faith

  2228. and

  2229. rejoicing

  2230. and

  2231. you

  2232. make

  2233. your

  2234. boast

  2235. alone

  2236. in

  2237. Christ

  2238. Jesus

  2239. at

  2240. the

  2241. same

  2242. time

  2243. you're

  2244. letting

  2245. go

  2246. of

  2247. the

  2248. circumcision

  2249. and

  2250. you're

  2251. letting

  2252. go

  2253. of

  2254. the

  2255. baptism

  2256. and

  2257. you're

  2258. letting

  2259. go

  2260. of

  2261. the

  2262. communion

  2263. and

  2264. you're

  2265. letting

  2266. go

  2267. of

  2268. the

  2269. visitation

  2270. and

  2271. you're

  2272. letting

  2273. go

  2274. of

  2275. all

  2276. the

  2277. other

  2278. things

  2279. in

  2280. order

  2281. to

  2282. make

  2283. your

  2284. boast

  2285. of

  2286. Christ

  2287. alone

  2288. recognizing

  2289. that

  2290. in

  2291. my

  2292. flesh

  2293. and

  2294. in

  2295. my

  2296. deeds

  2297. there

  2298. is

  2299. no

  2300. confidence

  2301. let me

  2302. close

  2303. it

  2304. this

  2305. way

  2306. Paul

  2307. opens

  2308. this

  2309. section

  2310. by

  2311. commanding

  2312. that

  2313. the

  2314. Philippians

  2315. in

  2316. would

  2317. appeal

  2318. to

  2319. these

  2320. believers

  2321. and

  2322. would

  2323. pull

  2324. them

  2325. away

  2326. from

  2327. Christ

  2328. strap

  2329. the

  2330. yoke

  2331. of

  2332. legalism

  2333. on

  2334. them

  2335. after

  2336. their

  2337. salvation

  2338. so

  2339. he

  2340. reminded

  2341. them

  2342. of

  2343. Christ's

  2344. love

  2345. in

  2346. chapter

  2347. 3

  2348. his

  2349. salvation

  2350. true

  2351. salvation

  2352. in

  2353. order

  2354. that

  2355. he

  2356. might

  2357. strengthen

  2358. their

  2359. joy

  2360. here's

  2361. what

  2362. Kent

  2363. Hughes

  2364. says

  2365. this

  2366. is

  2367. helpful

  2368. there

  2369. is

  2370. the

  2371. safety

  2372. of

  2373. the

  2374. joy

  2375. of

  2376. the

  2377. Lord

  2378. to

  2379. be

  2380. so

  2381. full

  2382. of

  2383. joy

  2384. that

  2385. no

  2386. other

  2387. efforts

  2388. appeal

  2389. to

  2390. us

  2391. to

  2392. have

  2393. tasted

  2394. what

  2395. is

  2396. good

  2397. that

  2398. is

  2399. in

  2400. Jesus

  2401. Christ

  2402. to

  2403. have

  2404. tasted

  2405. what

  2406. is

  2407. good

  2408. so

  2409. deeply

  2410. that

  2411. we

  2412. have

  2413. no

  2414. taste

  2415. for

  2416. the

  2417. allurements

  2418. of

  2419. the

  2420. tempter

  2421. for

  2422. the

  2423. joy

  2424. of

  2425. the

  2426. Lord

  2427. is

  2428. actually

  2429. our

  2430. strength

  2431. how

  2432. can

  2433. you

  2434. push

  2435. forward

  2436. when

  2437. you're

  2438. faced

  2439. with

  2440. a

  2441. temptation

  2442. to

  2443. fall

  2444. back

  2445. into

  2446. a

  2447. legalistic

  2448. view

  2449. of

  2450. Christianity

  2451. remind

  2452. yourself

  2453. that

  2454. the

  2455. joy

  2456. of

  2457. the

  2458. Lord

  2459. is

  2460. your

  2461. strength

  2462. how

  2463. do

  2464. you

  2465. truly

  2466. experience

  2467. the

  2468. joy

  2469. of

  2470. the

  2471. Lord

  2472. only

  2473. in

  2474. recognizing

  2475. truly

  2476. that

  2477. he

  2478. alone

  2479. can

  2480. provide

  2481. salvation

  2482. for

  2483. you

  2484. there's

  2485. freedom

  2486. in that

  2487. do

  2488. you know

  2489. Christ

  2490. in that

  2491. way

  2492. have

  2493. you

  2494. experienced

  2495. his

  2496. love

  2497. so

  2498. deeply

  2499. that

  2500. there

  2501. is

  2502. no

  2503. appeal

  2504. at

  2505. all

  2506. into

  2507. the

  2508. allurements

  2509. of

  2510. false

  2511. Christianity

  2512. around

  2513. us

  2514. there's

  2515. no

  2516. allurement

  2517. at

  2518. all

  2519. in

  2520. your

  2521. heart

  2522. as

  2523. to

  2524. what

  2525. you

  2526. need

  2527. to

  2528. do

  2529. now

  2530. because

  2531. you

  2532. are

  2533. satisfied

  2534. in

  2535. Christ

  2536. alone

  2537. if

  2538. you

  2539. experience

  2540. that

  2541. love

  2542. if

  2543. someone

  2544. today

  2545. were

  2546. to

  2547. accuse

  2548. you

  2549. of

  2550. not

  2551. being

  2552. a

  2553. true

  2554. Christian

  2555. what

  2556. would

  2557. your

  2558. first

  2559. defense

  2560. be

  2561. would

  2562. you

  2563. say

  2564. what

  2565. you

  2566. mean

  2567. I

  2568. went

  2569. to

  2570. church

  2571. this

  2572. morning

  2573. I

  2574. didn't

  2575. just

  2576. go

  2577. to

  2578. church

  2579. I

  2580. went

  2581. to

  2582. church

  2583. in

  2584. the

  2585. elementary

  2586. school

  2587. gym

  2588. and

  2589. sat

  2590. for

  2591. an

  2592. hour

  2593. listening

  2594. to

  2595. a

  2596. guy

  2597. in

  2598. a

  2599. hard

  2600. folding

  2601. metal

  2602. chair

  2603. and

  2604. not

  2605. only

  2606. that

  2607. he

  2608. told

  2609. me

  2610. that

  2611. next

  2612. week

  2613. when

  2614. I

  2615. gotta

  2616. come

  2617. I

  2618. gotta

  2619. listen

  2620. to

  2621. babies

  2622. cry

  2623. and

  2624. watch

  2625. kids

  2626. run

  2627. around

  2628. of

  2629. course

  2630. I'm

  2631. a

  2632. Christian

  2633. who

  2634. else

  2635. would

  2636. do

  2637. that

  2638. if

  2639. they

  2640. weren't

  2641. a

  2642. Christian

  2643. that's

  2644. not

  2645. the

  2646. evidence

  2647. of

  2648. a

  2649. true

  2650. Christian

  2651. would

  2652. your

  2653. defense

  2654. be

  2655. well

  2656. you

  2657. know

  2658. when

  2659. I

  2660. was

  2661. when

  2662. I

  2663. was

  2664. really

  2665. young

  2666. my

  2667. parents

  2668. brought

  2669. me

  2670. up

  2671. in

  2672. church

  2673. and

  2674. that's

  2675. just

  2676. what

  2677. I've

  2678. always

  2679. identified

  2680. with

  2681. I

  2682. appreciate

  2683. the

  2684. truth

  2685. I

  2686. appreciate

  2687. the

  2688. love

  2689. that

  2690. they

  2691. exhibit

  2692. and

  2693. yeah

  2694. I'm

  2695. a

  2696. Christian

  2697. of

  2698. course

  2699. I'm

  2700. a

  2701. Christian

  2702. I'm

  2703. an

  2704. American

  2705. right

  2706. or

  2707. would

  2708. your

  2709. defense

  2710. be

  2711. you

  2712. know

  2713. what

  2714. you're

  2715. exactly

  2716. right

  2717. I

  2718. don't

  2719. deserve

  2720. to

  2721. be

  2722. but

  2723. I

  2724. haven't

  2725. done

  2726. anything

  2727. to

  2728. actually

  2729. earn

  2730. this

  2731. my

  2732. boast

  2733. is

  2734. in

  2735. Christ

  2736. he

  2737. has

  2738. saved

  2739. me

  2740. I'm

  2741. a

  2742. Christian

  2743. not

  2744. because

  2745. I'm

  2746. good

  2747. I'm

  2748. a

  2749. Christian

  2750. because

  2751. I'm

  2752. forgiven

  2753. I'm

  2754. not

  2755. a

  2756. Christian

  2757. because

  2758. I

  2759. got

  2760. it

  2761. all

  2762. together

  2763. I'm

  2764. a

  2765. Christian

  2766. because

  2767. I

  2768. recognized

  2769. that

  2770. he

  2771. did

  2772. this

  2773. for

  2774. me

  2775. and

  2776. my

  2777. life's

  2778. purpose

  2779. now

  2780. is

  2781. to

  2782. live

  2783. it

  2784. in

  2785. accordance

  2786. with

  2787. what

  2788. he

  2789. has

  2790. done

  2791. to

  2792. truly

  2793. worship

  2794. to

  2795. let

  2796. every

  2797. decision

  2798. I

  2799. make

  2800. every

  2801. dollar

  2802. I

  2803. spend

  2804. every

  2805. hour

  2806. of

  2807. folly

  2808. in

  2809. some

  2810. way

  2811. be

  2812. a

  2813. response

  2814. to

  2815. what

  2816. he

  2817. has

  2818. done

  2819. for

  2820. me

  2821. that's

  2822. the

  2823. mark

  2824. of a

  2825. true

  2826. Christian

  2827. thank
