  1. Well, this sermon, as I said, was preached by Peter.

  2. It was delivered exactly 50 days

  3. after the crucifixion of Jesus.

  4. But the backdrop of the sermon

  5. was this unique outpouring of the Holy Spirit of God

  6. on the disciples in Jerusalem.

  7. And we're not gonna take the time

  8. to explore all of that tonight.

  9. You can do that in your own time,

  10. reading even just the first 13 verses of this chapter.

  11. We'll tell you what you need to know.

  12. But basically what had happened

  13. was the disciples, after Jesus had ascended back to heaven,

  14. were in Jerusalem, as Jesus had commanded,

  15. awaiting on the gift of the Holy Spirit

  16. that Jesus had promised.

  17. And as they're there praying in the upper room,

  18. a unique outpouring of the Holy Spirit,

  19. different than anything anyone had ever seen before,

  20. this outpouring of the Holy Spirit comes on the disciples

  21. and it's witnessed by people all over the city in Jerusalem.

  22. And so you can imagine with such a magnificent display,

  23. the people that are witnessing this,

  24. that are witnessing the apostles experience this moment,

  25. begin to ask some questions.

  26. And we find in verse number 12

  27. that they do actually specifically ask that.

  28. Look at it with me.

  29. Verse number 12,

  30. Some people assumed that what was actually taking place

  31. was that all the apostles,

  32. maybe perhaps out of some particular depression

  33. or just a riotous living at this moment in their lives,

  34. some of them began to spread the word

  35. that all of the apostles,

  36. the followers of Jesus were drunk.

  37. And so Peter in verse 14 begins to step up

  38. and he brings some clarification

  39. to exactly what is taking place.

  40. It tells us right there in verse 14,

  41. Peter standing up with the 11,

  42. lifted up his voice and addressed them

  43. in order that he could bring some clarity

  44. to exactly what they were seeing.

  45. And I want you to look with me at verses 16 to 18.

  46. Here's what he says.

  47. Peter says,

  48. This is what was uttered through the prophet Joel.

  49. And in the last days,

  50. it shall be, God declares,

  51. that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh

  52. and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.

  53. Your young men shall see visions

  54. and your old men shall dream dreams.

  55. Even on my male servants and female servants in those days,

  56. I will pour out my spirit and they shall prophesy.

  57. So what exactly is it that Peter does?

  58. Well, he takes the prophet Joel as his text for the day

  59. and he stands up before the people

  60. and he proclaims that that day

  61. was the inauguration of the last days.

  62. The last days, as Joel said in his quotation

  63. in verse number 17,

  64. the last days that Joel said

  65. would include a pouring out of the spirit of God

  66. on his people.

  67. But that's a problem for the Jews

  68. that are listening to Peter give that explanation.

  69. Because the Jews understood

  70. that whenever this pouring out of the spirit would come,

  71. that it would have to be preceded

  72. by the Christ, the Messiah.

  73. And so immediately,

  74. Peter knew that they would be perplexed

  75. by this statement.

  76. How could this be the inauguration of the last days

  77. if Messiah has not actually come?

  78. It was the Messiah who the scriptures had said

  79. would actually establish the kingdom of God

  80. and would be responsible for the pouring out of God's spirit.

  81. So you can see now where Peter's going with this.

  82. So he preaches about the crucifixion

  83. and the resurrection of Jesus

  84. to prove that Jesus is Messiah

  85. and that Messiah had come

  86. and that what the people were witnessing on that day

  87. was evidence of the fact that Messiah had come

  88. and these last days had begun.

  89. And this is the gospel preaching

  90. that characterized all of the apostles' teaching

  91. in the New Testament.

  92. You'll recognize this from Paul's words

  93. in 1 Corinthians 15.

  94. He says,

  95. Now I would remind you, brothers,

  96. of the gospel I preached to you.

  97. And then he goes on to define that gospel.

  98. That Christ died for our sins

  99. according to the scriptures,

  100. that he was buried,

  101. and that he raised on the third day

  102. according to the scriptures.

  103. This is the gospel of Jesus.

  104. And it is the very reason

  105. that Christianity exists.

  106. Were it not for the crucifixion

  107. and resurrection of Jesus,

  108. none of us likely would have ever even heard the name Jesus.

  109. Christianity would not exist.

  110. We would likely not know one another

  111. and we would certainly have no reason

  112. to be gathered together here

  113. on a beautiful spring evening in April.

  114. But this was Peter's aim.

  115. He was showing Jesus as the Messiah

  116. by affirming the reality

  117. and necessity of the crucifixion and resurrection.

  118. And tonight we're going to focus in on his thoughts

  119. about the crucifixion.

  120. Three things I'd like for you to see

  121. in these verses we just read.

  122. The first one is this.

  123. I want you to see the divine power of Jesus.

  124. The divine power of Jesus.

  125. Look with me again at verse 22.

  126. Men of Israel, hear these words.

  127. Perhaps we could apply that personally tonight.

  128. Men and women of Lake Norman, Charlotte, Cornelius,

  129. wherever you're from, hear these words.

  130. Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God

  131. with mighty works and wonders and signs

  132. that God did through him in your midst

  133. as you yourselves know.

  134. The divine power of Jesus.

  135. So Peter begins with an element of Jesus' life

  136. that could not actually be denied.

  137. It was his miraculous works.

  138. Now he lists three different elements here.

  139. He says there are mighty works.

  140. He says there are wonders and there are signs.

  141. And Peter doesn't mean to say

  142. that these are three different types of miracles,

  143. but they are three different perspectives

  144. of the same actions.

  145. Let me explain.

  146. Mighty works comes from the Greek word dunamis.

  147. It's where we get the English word dynamite.

  148. It's explosive power is the meaning of this word.

  149. Mighty works, explosive, supernatural

  150. is the implications here.

  151. And it describes the powerful nature

  152. of the things that Jesus did.

  153. That's the mighty works.

  154. And then he says,

  155. we could also consider these things as wonders,

  156. which refers to the way that people stood in awe

  157. and marveled at the power

  158. that Jesus displayed in his miracles.

  159. And then he uses this third word, signs.

  160. Signs is exactly that.

  161. They refer, they point us somewhere

  162. and it refers to the primary purpose

  163. of the Lord's demonstrations of power.

  164. Have you ever asked yourself,

  165. why did Jesus do all of those miracles?

  166. And indeed, he had a compassionate heart

  167. that desired to help those

  168. who were suffering and downtrodden,

  169. but that was not the primary purpose

  170. of the miracles of Jesus.

  171. The primary purpose of his power

  172. was to reveal his identity,

  173. who he is as the Messiah

  174. and the Son of God.

  175. John Pohill said,

  176. throughout Acts,

  177. the terms wonders

  178. only occurs in conjunction with signs,

  179. a testimony to the fact

  180. that mere marvels

  181. have no value in themselves

  182. except as they point beyond themselves

  183. to the divine power behind them

  184. and so lead to faith.

  185. That was the purpose of Jesus' miracles.

  186. And that's where Peter leads off in his sermon.

  187. He says,

  188. men, listen,

  189. this is what Joel said would happen

  190. and let me tell you why it's happening.

  191. Because this Jesus came

  192. and God attested to him

  193. by many mighty works

  194. and wonders and signs.

  195. Two things about this

  196. I would like to make note of.

  197. First, Jesus' miracles

  198. were publicly displayed.

  199. They were publicly displayed.

  200. Look back with me at verse 22.

  201. Jesus of Nazareth,

  202. a man attested to you by God.

  203. Attested to you by God.

  204. Well, attest, you know what that means?

  205. It means to put something on display.

  206. It means to be a witness

  207. to a particular fact or event.

  208. And Peter's point,

  209. using those words in particular,

  210. is to say that God the Father

  211. has put his son on display.

  212. And the way that he has put him on display

  213. is through these mighty works

  214. and wonders and signs.

  215. God bore witness to Jesus' identity

  216. through supernatural miracles.

  217. miracles.

  218. That's what Jesus was doing.

  219. That's what God was doing

  220. through his son.

  221. And each of us can probably think

  222. of several incredible miracles of Jesus

  223. that maybe we love to think on

  224. or study after.

  225. Even if you have very little knowledge

  226. of the Bible,

  227. you've probably heard of some of the things

  228. that Jesus did.

  229. Let me just remind you of a few of them.

  230. They're amazing.

  231. The very first one ever recorded for us

  232. in the narrative is in John chapter two.

  233. And it had to do with a wedding feast.

  234. It was in the little town of Cana in Galilee.

  235. Jesus had gone there along with his disciples

  236. who were with him.

  237. His mother was there.

  238. Perhaps many people from his family was there.

  239. It was a wedding feast.

  240. Likely has lasted up to seven days.

  241. These wedding feasts would last.

  242. And they ran out of wine.

  243. And Jesus' mom comes to him and says,

  244. you should do something about this.

  245. And what does Jesus do?

  246. This is the first miracle recorded in the scripture.

  247. He tells the servants.

  248. He doesn't do it himself.

  249. He tells other people.

  250. He says, take these jars, six of them.

  251. Jars that hold 20 to 30 gallons worth of water

  252. or wine or whatever you're putting in it.

  253. Take these six jars and go fill them

  254. to the brim with water.

  255. And that's exactly what they did.

  256. After they filled them up with water,

  257. knowing what they filled them with,

  258. they bring them back to the wedding feast.

  259. Jesus still doesn't touch it.

  260. He doesn't do anything with it.

  261. And he just tells the people

  262. that had just filled them with water,

  263. he says, now dip some out.

  264. And they go to dip some out.

  265. And it's not water anymore.

  266. It's wine.

  267. It's amazing.

  268. Just like that, he doesn't even touch it.

  269. Does it say anything?

  270. Just like that,

  271. we see this supernatural miracle of Jesus.

  272. Perhaps you remember that one.

  273. I know you probably remember the time

  274. that he's on the hillside near Bethsaida,

  275. just north of Galilee.

  276. He had gone there with his disciples

  277. to try to actually get a little bit of rest.

  278. It had been a busy few days.

  279. But the people could see him.

  280. They could see him travel on the boat

  281. around the north side of the Sea of Galilee.

  282. And they rushed over to where Jesus was.

  283. 5,000 of them.

  284. And they sit on a hillside.

  285. And they listen all day as Jesus teaches them.

  286. Exhausted as he might have been.

  287. He continues to teach the people

  288. because he said they were like sheep without a shepherd.

  289. Somebody had to teach them.

  290. Somebody had to help them.

  291. But there was no place to buy food in that area.

  292. It's a remote area.

  293. And Jesus gathers his disciples.

  294. And what does he say?

  295. He says, you guys really need to give these people

  296. some food.

  297. They've got nothing to eat.

  298. He said the disciples didn't have any food either.

  299. But they went out and they found a little boy.

  300. And he had five pieces of bread.

  301. And he had two pieces of fish.

  302. And they brought it to Jesus.

  303. And they said, this is all we got.

  304. And Jesus takes five pieces of bread,

  305. two pieces of fish,

  306. and in front of thousands of people.

  307. This is not a secret miracle

  308. where he could go behind and backstage somewhere

  309. where he had a team full of chefs

  310. who were secretly preparing all these things.

  311. This is a hillside in Bethsaida.

  312. And in front of all of these people,

  313. Jesus has them sit down

  314. and some people in groups of 50,

  315. some people in groups of 100.

  316. And he just begins to break off the bread

  317. and break off the fish.

  318. And somehow through his power,

  319. he's able to feed more than 5,000 people

  320. to the point that the people were all satisfied.

  321. They were filled.

  322. They ate as much as they could eat.

  323. And then they had 12 baskets of food left over.

  324. It's amazing.

  325. What Jesus did was absolutely amazing.

  326. But not all of his miracles had to do with food.

  327. Some of his miracles had to do with other things.

  328. They demonstrated in one case,

  329. many cases actually,

  330. his power over disease.

  331. We read in Mark,

  332. this has been a while ago now,

  333. but we read in Mark chapter one,

  334. you'll remember,

  335. Jesus is teaching somewhere near Capernaum.

  336. And a man with a deadly leprous disease,

  337. contagious disease,

  338. comes in the midst of the crowd.

  339. All the people began to run away from this man

  340. because they don't want to die either.

  341. And what is it that Jesus does with the man?

  342. He embraces the man.

  343. Everyone else runs.

  344. They want to avoid him.

  345. Not Jesus.

  346. He embraces him.

  347. And immediately as he touches the man,

  348. the man is in front of the eyes

  349. of all the people that are there,

  350. they see immediately,

  351. he's cleansed of this leprosy.

  352. It's like he was never sick to begin with.

  353. Jesus had power over disease.

  354. Some of his miracles showed

  355. that he had power over nature.

  356. Remember as he's on the boat

  357. on the Sea of Galilee

  358. with his 12 disciples.

  359. This was right after the feeding

  360. of the 5,000 perhaps,

  361. or it was somewhere along those lines

  362. around that same time frame.

  363. They're out there

  364. and a big storm comes up on the sea,

  365. remember?

  366. These men who,

  367. some of them had been fishermen

  368. their whole life,

  369. are so scared at the size of this storm

  370. that they think they're going to die.

  371. Jesus is asleep in the back of the boat.

  372. And they wake him up

  373. and what is it they say?

  374. Master, do you not care that we're dying?

  375. We're going to die.

  376. And Jesus stands up

  377. and he says three words.

  378. Peace be still.

  379. And the Bible says that

  380. this storm that was raging so much

  381. that the water is filling the boat

  382. and the boat is beginning to fall apart

  383. that all of a sudden

  384. the sea just becomes like glass.

  385. The wind becomes silent.

  386. He harnesses creation

  387. with the sound of his voice.

  388. It's amazing.

  389. He has power over the spirits of the world.

  390. Remember the little boy

  391. whose father had brought his son

  392. who had been possessed by a demon

  393. that had tortured him

  394. since he was very young

  395. and he brought him to the disciples

  396. and the disciples couldn't do anything about it.

  397. And Jesus comes along

  398. and he heals the boy

  399. and he cast out this demon.

  400. Over and over and over

  401. we see the testimony of the scriptures.

  402. Hundreds and thousands of these moments

  403. that Jesus displayed these miraculous powers.

  404. So many times that John

  405. at the end of his gospel says this.

  406. John chapter 21 and verse 25.

    John 21 chapter mention

  407. Now there are also many other things

  408. that Jesus did.

  409. Were every one of them to be written

  410. I suppose that the world itself

  411. could not contain the books

  412. that would be written.

  413. What's John's point?

  414. Jesus did so much

  415. we can't even write it all down.

  416. And it wasn't private.

  417. It was publicly displayed.

  418. God attesting to Jesus.

  419. God displaying his son to the world

  420. through mighty works

  421. and wonders and signs.

  422. It's not only publicly displayed

  423. it's publicly acknowledged.

  424. Publicly acknowledged.

  425. Look with me again at verse 22.

  426. Jesus of Nazareth

  427. a man attested to you by God

  428. with mighty works and wonders and signs

  429. that God did through him

  430. in your midst.

  431. And then Peter throws this in here.

  432. This little clause here is so awesome.

  433. As you yourselves know

  434. he says.

  435. It's not only that these miracles

  436. were on display publicly.

  437. They were actually acknowledged

  438. by the people publicly.

  439. They weren't performed in secret.

  440. The miraculous power of Jesus

  441. was undenied

  442. in first century Israel.

  443. It's not even that it was undeniable.

  444. It's that it was undenied.

  445. Nobody denied his works.

  446. They couldn't.

  447. There were too many of them.

  448. There were too many people

  449. that saw them.

  450. The people acknowledged.

  451. Yes.

  452. He has tremendous power.

  453. People traveled from countries

  454. outside of Israel

  455. to see it.

  456. To experience it.

  457. Even Jesus' enemies

  458. who eventually prepared the way

  459. for his execution

  460. did not deny the fact

  461. of his mighty works.

  462. John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  463. Remember Nicodemus

  464. comes to Jesus

  465. under the cover of night.

  466. He's a Pharisee

  467. and he says

  468. and John tells us

  469. now there was a man

  470. of the Pharisees

  471. named Nicodemus

  472. a ruler of the Jews.

  473. This man came to Jesus

  474. by night and said to him

  475. Rabbi

  476. we know you are a teacher

  477. that has come from God

  478. for no one can do these signs

  479. that you do

  480. unless God is with him.

  481. That's the testimony

  482. of Jesus' enemies even.

  483. So Peter's first point

  484. established Jesus' identity

  485. as the Messiah

  486. by pointing to his divine power

  487. as the Son of God

  488. which again

  489. was a key component

  490. of the apostles' witness.

  491. You still with me?

  492. Still with me?

  493. The divine power of Jesus.

  494. Number two.

  495. The divine purpose of Jesus.

  496. The divine purpose.

  497. Verse 23.

  498. This Jesus, Peter says

  499. delivered up

  500. according to the definite plan

  501. and foreknowledge of God

  502. you crucified

  503. and killed

  504. by the hands

  505. of lawless men.

  506. Peter essentially says

  507. this Jesus

  508. the one attested to you

  509. by God

  510. through mighty works

  511. and wonders

  512. and signs

  513. is the same one

  514. that you crucified.

  515. God put his Son

  516. on display

  517. the long-awaited Messiah

  518. that you've been looking for

  519. and your response

  520. was to kill him

  521. Peter says.

  522. And we could stop right there

  523. and we could chalk up

  524. Peter's sermon here

  525. 50 days after the crucifixion

  526. we could chalk it up

  527. as a bitter airing

  528. of grievance

  529. against the Jews

  530. who put his favorite teacher

  531. to death.

  532. But that's neither Peter's point

  533. nor is it his tone in this.

  534. There's an essential note

  535. in this verse

  536. that introduces

  537. an important question.

  538. Here's the question.

  539. Who is actually responsible

  540. for Jesus' crucifixion?

  541. Who's responsible for this?

  542. Who did this?

  543. And the answer is here.

  544. Let's walk it backwards though.

  545. How about the Roman executioners?

  546. The lawless men

  547. Peter says.

  548. Roman executioners

  549. they were actually responsible

  550. for carrying out

  551. Jesus' crucifixion.

  552. Did they crucify Jesus?

  553. Yes.

  554. But there was a step

  555. before the Roman executioners.

  556. It was Pilate.

  557. We read about him

  558. in John 18 and 19.

  559. He's the Roman governor.

  560. He's the one responsible

  561. for sentencing Jesus

  562. to death on a cross.

  563. Did he crucify Jesus?

  564. Yes.

  565. But there's a step

  566. before Pilate.

  567. There's the Jewish leaders.

  568. They were responsible

  569. for handing Jesus over

  570. to Pilate

  571. and demanding

  572. that he be executed

  573. as we already read.

  574. Did they crucify Jesus?

  575. Yes.

  576. But there's a step

  577. before them.

  578. There's Judas Iscariot.

  579. He's the one

  580. that betrayed the Lord

  581. for 30 pieces of silver.

  582. He's the one

  583. that was responsible

  584. for setting up

  585. the arrest for Jesus.

  586. He assisted it.

  587. Did he crucify Jesus?

  588. Yes.

  589. All of these people

  590. played a role

  591. in Jesus' death.

  592. But it is God the Father

  593. who Peter ultimately credits

  594. for the Lord's crucifixion.

  595. Did those people do it?

  596. Were they culpable

  597. for their wrong?

  598. Yes.

  599. But it was God

  600. who did this.

  601. It was God's will

  602. for the Christ

  603. to be crucified.

  604. He carried out

  605. that will

  606. through the work

  607. of men,

  608. the evil work of men,

  609. without violating

  610. their will.

  611. But it was God

  612. who did this.

  613. What's amazing

  614. to consider

  615. is that God

  616. used the wickedness

  617. wickedness of these men

  618. to provide a means

  619. of redemption

  620. for those men.

  621. There's a song

  622. by City of Light.

  623. It's called Jerusalem.

  624. There's a line

  625. in that song

  626. that I love so much.

  627. It says,

  628. See the king

  629. who made the sun

  630. and the moon

  631. and shining stars.

  632. let the soldiers

  633. hold and nail him down

  634. so that he could save them.

  635. He uses their wickedness.

  636. He uses their will

  637. in which they are responsible

  638. and culpable

  639. in order that he might accomplish

  640. his will

  641. of actually providing redemption

  642. for the very people

  643. who crucified him.

  644. That's an amazing purpose.

  645. That's what Jesus did.

  646. Who crucified Jesus?

  647. Well, ultimately,

  648. God did.

  649. The crucifixion of Jesus

  650. was not God

  651. making the best

  652. out of a bad situation.

  653. Peter says,

  654. This happened

  655. according to the definite plan

  656. and foreknowledge of God.

  657. It was always God's plan

  658. and purpose

  659. for the Messiah.

  660. In fact,

  661. on three different occasions

  662. at least,

  663. Jesus explicitly told

  664. his disciples

  665. what would happen.

  666. We've studied this

  667. in the Gospel of Mark.

  668. Mark chapter 8,

    Mark 8:31

  669. verse 31.

  670. He began to teach them

  671. that the Son of Man

  672. must suffer many things,

  673. be rejected by the elders

  674. and the chief priests

  675. and the scribes

  676. and be killed

  677. and after three days

  678. rise again.

  679. He said this plainly,

  680. Mark said.

  681. Mark chapter 9,

    Mark 9:31

  682. verse 31.

  683. He was teaching

  684. his disciples,

  685. saying to them,

  686. The Son of Man

  687. is going to be delivered

  688. into the hands of men

  689. and they will kill him.

  690. And when he is killed,

  691. after three days,

  692. he will rise.

  693. That's number two.

  694. Mark chapter 10,

    Mark 10:33

  695. verse 33.

  696. Taking the twelve again,

  697. he began to tell them

  698. what was to happen to him,

  699. saying,

  700. We are going up

  701. to Jerusalem.

  702. The Son of Man

  703. will be delivered

  704. over to the chief priest

  705. and the scribes.

  706. They will condemn him

  707. to death

  708. and deliver him

  709. over to the Gentiles.

  710. They will mock him

  711. and spit on him

  712. and flog him

  713. and kill him.

  714. And after three days,

  715. he will rise.

  716. This was always

  717. the plan of God

  718. and Jesus knew it.

  719. That's why he could tell

  720. the disciples

  721. over and over again,

  722. This is what's going to happen.

  723. This is why I came.

  724. Just because it was

  725. the eternal plan of God

  726. doesn't mean Jesus

  727. was an unwilling participant.

  728. In perfect union

  729. with the Father,

  730. the Son,

  731. willingly laid down

  732. his life for us.

  733. Hebrews chapter 12,

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  734. in verse 2.

  735. The writer says,

  736. We are looking to Jesus,

  737. the founder and perfecter

  738. of our faith,

  739. who for the joy

  740. that was set before him

  741. endured the cross.

  742. The joy.

  743. It was his joy

  744. to lay down his life

  745. for sinners.

  746. It was his pleasure

  747. to give his life

  748. as a ransom for us.

  749. He wasn't an unwilling

  750. participant in this.

  751. He was in perfect union

  752. with the Father.

  753. And he said so himself.

  754. John chapter 10.

    John 10 chapter mention

  755. Jesus said,

  756. I am the good shepherd.

  757. The good shepherd

  758. lays down his life

  759. for the sheep.

  760. And for this reason,

  761. the Father loves me

  762. because I lay down my life

  763. that I may take it up again.

  764. No one takes it from me,

  765. Jesus said.

  766. I lay it down.

  767. I have authority

  768. to lay it down.

  769. I have authority

  770. to take it up again.

  771. This charge I have received

  772. from my Father.

  773. We read it a moment ago

  774. in his interaction

  775. with Pilate.

  776. Pilate says,

  777. Don't you realize

  778. that I'm the one

  779. in the position

  780. of power here?

  781. I'm the one

  782. that can set you free?

  783. Pilate says,

  784. And then the one

  785. in the real position

  786. of power responds

  787. in humility.

  788. And he says,

  789. You would have no power

  790. in this moment

  791. if I had not given it

  792. to you.

  793. His life wasn't taken.

  794. His life was laid down.

  795. It's a glorious purpose.

  796. The definite plan

  797. of God.

  798. God.

  799. But let's address

  800. why it's necessary.

  801. We can understand

  802. the things

  803. that we've said already,

  804. but that doesn't actually

  805. answer the question

  806. of why did it

  807. have to happen?

  808. Why did it have to happen?

  809. Let's deal with that.

  810. The crucifixion

  811. was a substitution.

  812. The crucifixion

  813. was a substitution.

  814. This is why

  815. it had to happen.

  816. Jesus took the place

  817. of every person

  818. who would believe

  819. and follow him.

  820. Now when we say

  821. that Jesus took our place,

  822. that he died our death,

  823. we don't mean

  824. that every one of us

  825. is destined

  826. to die

  827. by means

  828. of crucifixion.

  829. In that sense,

  830. Jesus died

  831. in the form

  832. of an execution,

  833. a criminal's death

  834. and crucifixion,

  835. that we then get

  836. to escape

  837. such a

  838. torturous

  839. and gruesome death.

  840. That's not what

  841. we mean by that.

  842. It means that

  843. we escape

  844. the wrath of God

  845. against our sin.

  846. It's not that

  847. we escape the cross.

  848. We escape something

  849. far worse

  850. than our cross.

  851. We escape

  852. the eternal wrath

  853. of God.

  854. He endured

  855. the wrath of God

  856. so that we could

  857. experience

  858. the peace

  859. of God.

  860. His death

  861. was an atonement,

  862. an atonement

  863. for sin

  864. that was promised

  865. again

  866. and again

  867. and again

  868. in the scriptures.

  869. that's why

  870. it was necessary.

  871. Had Jesus

  872. not died

  873. this death,

  874. we would have

  875. no hope

  876. of forgiveness.

  877. He took

  878. our place

  879. and I

  880. know we talk

  881. about this

  882. all the time

  883. because what else

  884. would we talk

  885. about?

  886. This is the reason

  887. that we gather.

  888. you realize

  889. when Jesus

  890. when you come

  891. to Christ

  892. in faith

  893. and you cry

  894. out to God

  895. for mercy

  896. it's not

  897. that God

  898. looks at you

  899. and decides

  900. okay

  901. I'm just

  902. going to turn

  903. a blind eye

  904. to the sin

  905. you've committed

  906. and we're just

  907. going to start

  908. with a clean slate.

  909. That is not

  910. what God

  911. does.

  912. He can't

  913. do that.

  914. You understand?

  915. He can't

  916. do that.

  917. That would

  918. violate

  919. His holiness.

  920. It would

  921. violate

  922. His justice.

  923. He must

  924. judge

  925. every sin.

  926. When we

  927. come to

  928. Christ

  929. in faith

  930. it's not

  931. that He

  932. turns a

  933. blind eye

  934. to our sin

  935. it's that

  936. He takes

  937. the sin

  938. that we've

  939. committed

  940. and He

  941. puts it

  942. on His

  943. perfect

  944. sinless

  945. Son.

  946. Christ's

  947. death

  948. was not

  949. a tragedy

  950. it was

  951. a substitution.

  952. That's

  953. why this

  954. is Good

  955. Friday.

  956. I laughed

  957. at Andy

  958. today.

  959. He texted

  960. me while

  961. he was

  962. working at

  963. the greenhouse

  964. and he said

  965. is it weird

  966. that I've been

  967. telling people

  968. happy crucifixion

  969. day?

  970. I said

  971. yeah that's

  972. weird.

  973. That's weird.

  974. Because what's

  975. happy about a

  976. crucifixion?

  977. Well in this

  978. case

  979. it's that it

  980. was the

  981. crucifixion

  982. the wrath

  983. that I

  984. deserve

  985. that you

  986. deserve

  987. but the

  988. perfect

  989. righteous

  990. Son of

  991. God

  992. took

  993. my

  994. place.

  995. That's

  996. why it

  997. was

  998. necessary

  999. and by

  1000. the way

  1001. this is

  1002. pointed to

  1003. over and

  1004. over in

  1005. the scriptures

  1006. it was

  1007. always

  1008. necessary

  1009. for the

  1010. Christ

  1011. to do

  1012. this.

  1013. Think

  1014. about it.

  1015. We talked

  1016. about this

  1017. in our

  1018. Lakeside

  1019. Connect

  1020. group a

  1021. couple

  1022. weeks

  1023. ago.

  1024. Remember

  1025. in your

  1026. study of

  1027. Genesis

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  1028. chapter 3

  1029. the first

  1030. sin.

  1031. Remember

  1032. Adam and

  1033. Eve?

  1034. I said

  1035. this is

  1036. always weird

  1037. to me

  1038. especially

  1039. when I was

  1040. a kid

  1041. I'd read

  1042. this

  1043. they were

  1044. naked

  1045. and they

  1046. didn't

  1047. realize

  1048. it wasn't

  1049. that they

  1050. didn't

  1051. realize

  1052. it's

  1053. that they

  1054. didn't

  1055. care

  1056. but then

  1057. as soon

  1058. as they

  1059. sin

  1060. all of a

  1061. sudden

  1062. they realize

  1063. their nakedness

  1064. and they're

  1065. ashamed

  1066. of it.

  1067. Their

  1068. nakedness

  1069. in that

  1070. moment

  1071. is symbolic

  1072. of their

  1073. guilt.

  1074. It's not

  1075. about their

  1076. body in that

  1077. moment

  1078. it's about

  1079. their shame

  1080. their guilt

  1081. for sinning

  1082. against God

  1083. and what

  1084. is it that

  1085. Adam and

  1086. Eve did.

  1087. They

  1088. immediately

  1089. began to

  1090. work as

  1091. hard as

  1092. they could

  1093. to cover

  1094. their guilt

  1095. to cover

  1096. their nakedness

  1097. to cover

  1098. their shame

  1099. so they

  1100. sewed together

  1101. some fig

  1102. leagues

  1103. but no matter

  1104. how hard

  1105. you try

  1106. your efforts

  1107. will never

  1108. be good

  1109. enough

  1110. to cover

  1111. your guilt.

  1112. So what

  1113. does God

  1114. do for

  1115. Adam and

  1116. Eve?

  1117. God

  1118. provides

  1119. a covering

  1120. for them

  1121. a covering

  1122. of skins

  1123. which meant

  1124. that the

  1125. first death

  1126. had to

  1127. take place

  1128. God

  1129. sacrifices

  1130. an animal

  1131. in order

  1132. to cover

  1133. Adam and

  1134. Eve's

  1135. nakedness.

  1136. What is

  1137. that a

  1138. picture of?

  1139. It's a

  1140. picture of

  1141. atonement.

  1142. No matter

  1143. how hard

  1144. you work

  1145. no matter

  1146. how many

  1147. times you

  1148. come to

  1149. these special

  1150. services

  1151. or services

  1152. on a Sunday

  1153. no matter

  1154. how much

  1155. money you

  1156. might give

  1157. or how many

  1158. good things

  1159. you do

  1160. in your

  1161. life

  1162. no matter

  1163. what type

  1164. of good

  1165. credit

  1166. you amass

  1167. for yourself

  1168. it will

  1169. always be

  1170. fig leaves

  1171. it will

  1172. never be

  1173. good enough

  1174. to cover

  1175. your guilt

  1176. God

  1177. has to

  1178. provide

  1179. a covering

  1180. for us

  1181. we are

  1182. incapable

  1183. of doing

  1184. that

  1185. ourselves

  1186. and he

  1187. did that

  1188. in Jesus

  1189. Jesus

  1190. was the

  1191. sacrifice

  1192. to cover

  1193. our

  1194. guilt

  1195. and we

  1196. see it

  1197. over and

  1198. over in

  1199. the Old

  1200. Testament

  1201. remember

  1202. Passover

  1203. that's

  1204. what it

  1205. was

  1206. when the

  1207. angel of

  1208. death

  1209. came

  1210. through

  1211. Egypt

  1212. he only

  1213. passed

  1214. over

  1215. those

  1216. with

  1217. the

  1218. blood

  1219. on

  1220. the

  1221. doorpost

  1222. what is

  1223. that all

  1224. about

  1225. atonement

  1226. when God

  1227. established

  1228. the sacrificial

  1229. system

  1230. over and

  1231. over

  1232. the Jews

  1233. would have

  1234. you read

  1235. Leviticus

  1236. you'll see

  1237. that they

  1238. were

  1239. they had

  1240. to sacrifice

  1241. a lot

  1242. because one

  1243. sacrifice

  1244. was never

  1245. enough

  1246. they had

  1247. to continually

  1248. bring these

  1249. sacrifices

  1250. for atonement

  1251. but Christ

  1252. was the

  1253. once and

  1254. for all

  1255. atonement

  1256. for our

  1257. sins

  1258. the divine

  1259. purpose

  1260. of Jesus

  1261. crucifixion

  1262. was to

  1263. atone

  1264. for you

  1265. and for

  1266. me

  1267. and this

  1268. was the

  1269. plan

  1270. of God

  1271. and it

  1272. was fulfilled

  1273. joyfully

  1274. by Jesus

  1275. of Nazareth

  1276. it's a

  1277. divine

  1278. purpose

  1279. we see

  1280. his power

  1281. we see

  1282. his purpose

  1283. all the

  1284. love that

  1285. drew

  1286. salvation

  1287. plan

  1288. all the

  1289. grace

  1290. that brought

  1291. it down

  1292. to man

  1293. all the

  1294. mighty

  1295. gulf

  1296. that God

  1297. did span

  1298. at Calvary

  1299. or my

  1300. favorite

  1301. because the

  1302. sinless

  1303. savior

  1304. died

  1305. my

  1306. sinful

  1307. soul

  1308. is

  1309. counted

  1310. free

  1311. for God

  1312. the just

  1313. is satisfied

  1314. to look

  1315. on him

  1316. but pardon

  1317. me

  1318. that's the

  1319. necessity

  1320. of the

  1321. cross

  1322. finally we

  1323. see the

  1324. divine

  1325. perfection

  1326. of Jesus

  1327. we've seen

  1328. his power

  1329. we've seen

  1330. his purpose

  1331. now I want

  1332. you to

  1333. notice

  1334. his

  1335. perfection

  1336. verse 24

  1337. God

  1338. raised

  1339. him up

  1340. loosing

  1341. the

  1342. pangs

  1343. of death

  1344. because

  1345. it was

  1346. not

  1347. possible

  1348. for him

  1349. to be

  1350. held

  1351. by it

  1352. God

  1353. raised

  1354. him up

  1355. and we're

  1356. going to

  1357. spend our

  1358. time on

  1359. Sunday

  1360. focused on

  1361. the resurrection

  1362. we're going

  1363. to deal

  1364. with this

  1365. verse

  1366. again on

  1367. that day

  1368. but there's

  1369. something about

  1370. Peter's

  1371. statement that

  1372. is necessary

  1373. as we

  1374. consider the

  1375. cross

  1376. notice what

  1377. he says

  1378. it was not

  1379. possible

  1380. for him

  1381. to be

  1382. held

  1383. by it

  1384. that is

  1385. death

  1386. it was

  1387. not

  1388. possible

  1389. for him

  1390. to be

  1391. held

  1392. by

  1393. death

  1394. but what

  1395. does that

  1396. mean

  1397. does that

  1398. mean

  1399. it's not

  1400. possible

  1401. for Jesus

  1402. to remain

  1403. dead

  1404. we might

  1405. come up

  1406. with a few

  1407. different answers

  1408. for this

  1409. we may say

  1410. well we've

  1411. already

  1412. understood

  1413. his divine

  1414. power

  1415. maybe his

  1416. power

  1417. was greater

  1418. and that

  1419. would be

  1420. true

  1421. maybe we

  1422. would look

  1423. to the

  1424. fulfillment

  1425. of the

  1426. scriptures

  1427. and say

  1428. well he

  1429. couldn't

  1430. stay

  1431. dead

  1432. death

  1433. had no

  1434. claim

  1435. on him

  1436. because

  1437. he was

  1438. always

  1439. the purpose

  1440. of the

  1441. Messiah

  1442. to die

  1443. and rise

  1444. and that

  1445. would be

  1446. true

  1447. but there's

  1448. another

  1449. option

  1450. not even

  1451. an option

  1452. it's just

  1453. in addition

  1454. to those

  1455. things

  1456. I want

  1457. you to

  1458. consider

  1459. for just

  1460. a moment

  1461. Jesus

  1462. had no

  1463. sin

  1464. for which

  1465. death

  1466. could claim

  1467. him

  1468. you realize

  1469. death is

  1470. a result

  1471. of sin

  1472. but Jesus

  1473. was the

  1474. sinless

  1475. son of

  1476. God

  1477. death

  1478. had no

  1479. hold

  1480. on him

  1481. he

  1482. willingly

  1483. laid down

  1484. his life

  1485. for sins

  1486. he

  1487. was the

  1488. spotless

  1489. lamb

  1490. foreshadowed

  1491. by all

  1492. of those

  1493. old

  1494. testament

  1495. sacrifice

  1496. he

  1497. was the

  1498. spotless

  1499. lamb

  1500. that we

  1501. will

  1502. remember

  1503. symbolically

  1504. in this

  1505. supper

  1506. tonight

  1507. and that's

  1508. what

  1509. John

  1510. the

  1511. Baptist

  1512. said

  1513. John

  1514. chapter

  1515. one

  1516. in

  1517. verse

  1518. twenty

  1519. nine

  1520. the next

  1521. day

  1522. John

  1523. saw

  1524. Jesus

  1525. coming

  1526. and he

  1527. said

  1528. behold

  1529. the

  1530. lamb

  1531. of God

  1532. who takes

  1533. away

  1534. the sins

  1535. of the

  1536. world

  1537. and in

  1538. Hebrews

  1539. chapter

  1540. nine

  1541. the writer

  1542. of Hebrews

  1543. using this

  1544. metaphoric

  1545. symbolic

  1546. language

  1547. of the

  1548. sacrificial

  1549. system

  1550. in the

  1551. old

  1552. testament

  1553. says

  1554. Jesus

  1555. entered

  1556. once

  1557. for all

  1558. into the

  1559. holy

  1560. places

  1561. not by

  1562. means of

  1563. the blood

  1564. of goats

  1565. and calves

  1566. but by

  1567. the means

  1568. of his

  1569. own

  1570. blood

  1571. thus

  1572. securing

  1573. an

  1574. eternal

  1575. redemption

  1576. for if

  1577. the blood

  1578. of goats

  1579. and bulls

  1580. and the

  1581. sprinkling

  1582. of defiled

  1583. persons

  1584. with the

  1585. ashes

  1586. of a

  1587. heifer

  1588. sanctify

  1589. the

  1590. purification

  1591. of the

  1592. flesh

  1593. how much

  1594. more

  1595. the writer

  1596. says

  1597. will the

  1598. blood

  1599. of Christ

  1600. who through

  1601. the spirit

  1602. offered

  1603. himself

  1604. without

  1605. blemish

  1606. to God

  1607. and here's

  1608. my point

  1609. the

  1610. resurrection

  1611. of Jesus

  1612. proves

  1613. that his

  1614. death

  1615. on the

  1616. cross

  1617. was a

  1618. sufficient

  1619. sacrifice

  1620. for your

  1621. sin

  1622. it was

  1623. enough

  1624. not for

  1625. a moment

  1626. but for

  1627. eternity

  1628. the fact

  1629. that he

  1630. rose from

  1631. the dead

  1632. means that

  1633. you can

  1634. trust

  1635. him

  1636. alone

  1637. to save

  1638. you

  1639. to provide

  1640. forgiveness

  1641. to give

  1642. peace

  1643. with God

  1644. to provide

  1645. eternal life

  1646. his resurrection

  1647. proves that

  1648. he can do

  1649. that and that

  1650. only he

  1651. can do

  1652. that

  1653. without the

  1654. resurrection

  1655. of Jesus

  1656. his crucifixion

  1657. would be

  1658. meaningless

  1659. it would

  1660. just be

  1661. another

  1662. tragedy

  1663. on the

  1664. pages

  1665. of history

  1666. but because

  1667. he rose

  1668. from the

  1669. dead

  1670. we know

  1671. that his

  1672. atonement

  1673. was accepted

  1674. by God

  1675. the father

  1676. and he

  1677. can give

  1678. you

  1679. life

  1680. forever

  1681. don't you

  1682. see

  1683. the

  1684. resurrection

  1685. changes

  1686. everything

  1687. it

  1688. changes

  1689. everything

  1690. it means

  1691. that the

  1692. purpose of

  1693. Christ

  1694. was actually

  1695. fulfilled

  1696. and that

  1697. by faith

  1698. we can

  1699. receive

  1700. the gift

  1701. of life

  1702. now I

  1703. believe

  1704. everything

  1705. that I've

  1706. said

  1707. tonight

  1708. is completely

  1709. rational

  1710. but rational

  1711. thinking

  1712. can only

  1713. get us

  1714. so far

  1715. can't it

  1716. simple

  1717. reason

  1718. can look

  1719. at the

  1720. Bible

  1721. and discern

  1722. at least

  1723. within the

  1724. pages of

  1725. the Bible

  1726. that all

  1727. of these

  1728. things

  1729. point

  1730. to the

  1731. fact

  1732. that Jesus

  1733. of Nazareth

  1734. is the

  1735. Messiah

  1736. and the

  1737. Son of

  1738. God

  1739. that it

  1740. teaches

  1741. his death

  1742. and resurrection

  1743. makes

  1744. salvation

  1745. possible

  1746. that it

  1747. affirms

  1748. that he

  1749. is the

  1750. eternal

  1751. Lord

  1752. all of

  1753. those

  1754. things

  1755. can be

  1756. rationally

  1757. discerned

  1758. as we

  1759. look at

  1760. the

  1761. scriptures

  1762. and that's

  1763. important

  1764. but it

  1765. is totally

  1766. possible

  1767. to see

  1768. those things

  1769. in the

  1770. Bible

  1771. without

  1772. actually

  1773. believing

  1774. that it's

  1775. true

  1776. without

  1777. actually

  1778. following

  1779. Jesus

  1780. as

  1781. Savior

  1782. and

  1783. Lord

  1784. in fact

  1785. many

  1786. people

  1787. consent

  1788. to a

  1789. form

  1790. of

  1791. Christianity

  1792. without

  1793. ever

  1794. actually

  1795. becoming

  1796. true

  1797. Christians

  1798. God

  1799. created

  1800. us

  1801. as

  1802. rational

  1803. beings

  1804. in order

  1805. that we

  1806. could

  1807. discern

  1808. his

  1809. rational

  1810. truth

  1811. in

  1812. his

  1813. word

  1814. but at

  1815. the

  1816. end

  1817. of

  1818. the

  1819. day

  1820. it

  1821. is

  1822. faith

  1823. that

  1824. he

  1825. demands

  1826. of

  1827. each

  1828. of

  1829. us

  1830. faith

  1831. Hebrews

    Hebrews 11 chapter mention

  1832. chapter

  1833. 11

  1834. and

  1835. verse

  1836. 6

  1837. without

  1838. faith

  1839. it's

  1840. impossible

  1841. to

  1842. please

  1843. him

  1844. for

  1845. whoever

  1846. would

  1847. draw

  1848. near

  1849. to

  1850. God

  1851. must

  1852. believe

  1853. that

  1854. he

  1855. exists

  1856. and

  1857. that

  1858. he

  1859. rewards

  1860. those

  1861. who

  1862. seek

  1863. him

  1864. this

  1865. is

  1866. what

  1867. Paul

  1868. meant

  1869. in

  1870. Romans

  1871. 5

  1872. since

  1873. we

  1874. have

  1875. been

  1876. justified

  1877. not

  1878. by

  1879. our

  1880. rational

  1881. assent

  1882. to

  1883. the

  1884. things

  1885. that

  1886. we

  1887. read

  1888. but

  1889. since

  1890. we

  1891. have

  1892. been

  1893. justified

  1894. by

  1895. faith

  1896. we

  1897. have

  1898. peace

  1899. with

  1900. God

  1901. through

  1902. our

  1903. Lord

  1904. Jesus

  1905. Christ

  1906. through

  1907. him

  1908. we

  1909. have

  1910. obtained

  1911. access

  1912. by

  1913. faith

  1914. into

  1915. this

  1916. grace

  1917. in

  1918. which

  1919. we

  1920. stand

  1921. and

  1922. as

  1923. we

  1924. finish

  1925. I

  1926. want

  1927. you

  1928. to

  1929. look

  1930. back

  1931. at

  1932. the

  1933. beginning

  1934. of

  1935. Peter's

  1936. sermon

  1937. specifically

  1938. at

  1939. verse

  1940. 21

  1941. look at

  1942. it

  1943. with

  1944. me

  1945. verse

  1946. 21

  1947. this

  1948. is

  1949. the

  1950. end

  1951. of

  1952. Joel's

  1953. prophecy

  1954. that

  1955. he

  1956. quotes

  1957. it

  1958. shall

  1959. come

  1960. to

  1961. pass

  1962. that

  1963. everyone

  1964. who

  1965. calls

  1966. upon

  1967. the

  1968. name

  1969. of

  1970. the

  1971. Lord

  1972. shall

  1973. be

  1974. saved

  1975. so

  1976. salvation

  1977. comes

  1978. to those

  1979. who

  1980. call

  1981. on

  1982. the

  1983. name

  1984. of

  1985. the

  1986. Lord

  1987. who

  1988. Peter

  1989. proves

  1990. in

  1991. this

  1992. passage

  1993. is

  1994. Jesus

  1995. Christ

  1996. Jesus

  1997. of

  1998. Nazareth

  1999. but

  2000. what

  2001. does

  2002. it

  2003. actually

  2004. mean

  2005. to

  2006. call

  2007. on

  2008. the

  2009. name

  2010. of

  2011. the

  2012. Lord

  2013. what

  2014. does

  2015. that

  2016. even

  2017. mean

  2018. it

  2019. means

  2020. that

  2021. after

  2022. acknowledging

  2023. my

  2024. lostness

  2025. not

  2026. just

  2027. as

  2028. it's

  2029. described

  2030. on

  2031. the

  2032. pages

  2033. of

  2034. a

  2035. book

  2036. but

  2037. as

  2038. I

  2039. realize

  2040. the

  2041. truth

  2042. of

  2043. what

  2044. is

  2045. written

  2046. in

  2047. the

  2048. pages

  2049. of

  2050. this

  2051. book

  2052. and

  2053. I

  2054. acknowledge

  2055. the

  2056. lostness

  2057. that I

  2058. have

  2059. in

  2060. my

  2061. sin

  2062. by

  2063. faith

  2064. I

  2065. cry

  2066. out

  2067. to

  2068. Jesus

  2069. alone

  2070. to

  2071. save

  2072. me

  2073. cry

  2074. out

  2075. for

  2076. his

  2077. mercy

  2078. realizing

  2079. finally

  2080. that I

  2081. have

  2082. no

  2083. other

  2084. hope

  2085. my

  2086. fig

  2087. leaves

  2088. won't

  2089. count

  2090. my

  2091. goodness

  2092. can't

  2093. be

  2094. good

  2095. enough

  2096. my

  2097. faithfulness

  2098. can't

  2099. be

  2100. faithful

  2101. enough

  2102. the

  2103. only

  2104. thing

  2105. I

  2106. can

  2107. do

  2108. is

  2109. acknowledge

  2110. the

  2111. truthfulness

  2112. of what

  2113. the

  2114. scripture

  2115. says

  2116. and

  2117. by

  2118. faith

  2119. cry

  2120. out

  2121. to

  2122. Jesus

  2123. Christ

  2124. for

  2125. mercy

  2126. acknowledging

  2127. him

  2128. as

  2129. my

  2130. savior

  2131. and

  2132. as

  2133. my

  2134. lord

  2135. Jesus

  2136. accomplished

  2137. this

  2138. salvation

  2139. on the

  2140. cross

  2141. and he

  2142. offers

  2143. it

  2144. freely

  2145. to

  2146. all

  2147. who

  2148. will

  2149. believe

  2150. that's

  2151. why

  2152. good

  2153. friday

  2154. matters

  2155. that's

  2156. why

  2157. it's

  2158. good

  2159. if

  2160. you're

  2161. still

  2162. trying

  2163. to

  2164. sort

  2165. all

  2166. of

  2167. this

  2168. out

  2169. in

  2170. your

  2171. own

  2172. mind

  2173. in

  2174. your

  2175. own

  2176. heart

  2177. as

  2178. to

  2179. whether

  2180. or

  2181. not

  2182. any

  2183. of

  2184. this

  2185. actually

  2186. means

  2187. anything

  2188. helpful

  2189. at

  2190. all

  2191. at

  2192. the

  2193. end

  2194. of

  2195. the

  2196. day

  2197. it

  2198. comes

  2199. back

  2200. to

  2201. faith

  2202. you

  2203. can

  2204. acknowledge

  2205. the

  2206. truthfulness

  2207. of

  2208. these

  2209. things

  2210. without

  2211. actually

  2212. believing

  2213. them

  2214. without

  2215. actually

  2216. surrendering

  2217. to

  2218. Christ

  2219. in

  2220. response

  2221. to

  2222. and

  2223. I

  2224. want

  2225. to

  2226. leave

  2227. you

  2228. with

  2229. Jesus

  2230. words

  2231. in

  2232. John

  2233. 6

  2234. Jesus

  2235. said

  2236. I

  2237. am

  2238. the

  2239. bread

  2240. of

  2241. life

  2242. whoever

  2243. comes

  2244. to

  2245. me

  2246. shall

  2247. not

  2248. hunger

  2249. and

  2250. whoever

  2251. believes

  2252. in

  2253. me

  2254. shall

  2255. never

  2256. thirst

  2257. but

  2258. I

  2259. said

  2260. to

  2261. you

  2262. that

  2263. you

  2264. have

  2265. seen

  2266. me

  2267. and

  2268. yet

  2269. you

  2270. do

  2271. not

  2272. believe

  2273. all

  2274. that

  2275. the

  2276. father

  2277. gives

  2278. me

  2279. will

  2280. come

  2281. to

  2282. me

  2283. and

  2284. whoever

  2285. comes

  2286. to

  2287. me

  2288. I

  2289. will

  2290. never

  2291. cast

  2292. out

  2293. for

  2294. I

  2295. have

  2296. come

  2297. down

  2298. from

  2299. heaven

  2300. not

  2301. to

  2302. do

  2303. my

  2304. own

  2305. will

  2306. but

  2307. the

  2308. will

  2309. of

  2310. him

  2311. who

  2312. sent

  2313. me

  2314. and

  2315. this

  2316. is

  2317. the

  2318. will

  2319. of

  2320. him

  2321. who

  2322. sent

  2323. me

  2324. Jesus

  2325. said

  2326. that

  2327. I

  2328. should

  2329. lose

  2330. nothing

  2331. of

  2332. all

  2333. that

  2334. he

  2335. has

  2336. given

  2337. me

  2338. but

  2339. raise

  2340. it

  2341. up

  2342. on

  2343. the

  2344. last

  2345. day

  2346. for

  2347. this

  2348. is

  2349. the

  2350. will

  2351. of

  2352. my

  2353. father

  2354. that

  2355. everyone

  2356. and

  2357. believes

  2358. in

  2359. him

  2360. should

  2361. have

  2362. eternal

  2363. life

  2364. and

  2365. I

  2366. will

  2367. raise

  2368. him

  2369. up

  2370. on

  2371. the

  2372. last

  2373. day

  2374. notice

  2375. what

  2376. Jesus

  2377. says

  2378. whoever

  2379. looks

  2380. on

  2381. the

  2382. son

  2383. and

  2384. believes

  2385. don't

  2386. just

  2387. look

  2388. tonight

  2389. believe

  2390. and

  2391. receive

  2392. by

  2393. faith

  2394. this

  2395. glorious

  2396. gospel

  2397. truth
