  1. If you have your Bibles with you, please open them up to Psalm chapter 52.

    Psalms 52 chapter mention

  2. Psalm chapter 52.

    Psalms 52 chapter mention

  3. It was about 3.30 last Tuesday when Jen and I were traveling home.

  4. We were driving with the kids on the highway, Highway 9.

  5. And when all of a sudden we saw, not too far ahead of us, some dark, black smoke billowing up into the air.

  6. And as we got a little bit closer, we could see that it was coming from right on the highway.

  7. There had been multiple vehicles that were in an accident, and some of them were on fire.

  8. We had just passed through the hamlet of Chinook.

  9. And as we got even closer, it was right in the middle of the road, and so we had to pull off onto one of the range roads.

  10. And from there, we saw a little more of what was going on.

  11. Semi-truck with some tanker trailers of some kind of flammable substance had caught fire.

  12. There were people just in the ditch nearby that had fled their vehicles as the fire was beginning to spread.

  13. One of the tankers, I noticed, had not yet caught fire or exploded.

  14. And all of a sudden, the realization that this is dangerous for these people who are nearby kind of hit.

  15. And I kind of went out into the field a little bit to see if I could help kind of get these people to come back

  16. and to put some distance between them and what was happening there on the road.

  17. And even in that moment, I felt unsure of what to do as some of these people didn't want to leave.

  18. At least one of them knew that there was someone, a man, still in one of the vehicles, trapped, unable to get free.

  19. I saw a woman lying lifeless on the ground and her family dragging her away from the fire as it spread.

  20. And we watched in horror as one by one, the vehicles all around caught fire, exploding into flames.

  21. And it was a horrific thing to witness.

  22. Three people died that day.

  23. Several were critically injured and others with less severe injuries.

  24. But it hit home to me.

  25. Just that these three people were gone.

  26. Just snuffed right out in that moment.

  27. And their families permanently altered.

  28. That day and since that day, I've kind of gone through the full range of emotions

  29. from just sadness and grief to frustration and anger at the driver who was responsible for this.

  30. I've questioned in my own heart,

  31. God, why did you allow this to happen?

  32. Where are you in the midst of this?

  33. I imagine it's not all that different from how David was feeling in the situation that he's in

  34. as he writes this psalm, which we're going to read this morning.

  35. If you look at the superscription,

  36. it says,

  37. On the surface level, there doesn't seem to be much to those words.

  38. But these are the words which point back to a great tragedy that happened in the life of David.

  39. As the story goes,

  40. David was the young shepherd that God had anointed to be the next king of Israel.

  41. Everything was going well for him.

  42. He defeated Goliath.

  43. He came into the service of the king in his palace.

  44. He came to serve in the army of Israel.

  45. He rose up in the ranks of the army

  46. until he was in leadership.

  47. He was best friends with the king's son.

  48. The people loved David because of the success that God gave him in battle.

  49. He even married into the royal family.

  50. He was the king's son-in-law.

  51. Everything was going well for David

  52. until things began to fall apart.

  53. God had told King Saul

  54. that he was going to take the kingdom away from Saul

  55. and give it to someone better than him

  56. because he had disobeyed God

  57. to his neighbor.

  58. And so Saul was watching over his throne,

  59. his rule,

  60. with a jealous and suspicious eye.

  61. And he came to see that David was the one

  62. that God was moving in to replace him.

  63. His suspicion and his jealousy

  64. became pointed at David.

  65. And it got to the place

  66. where Saul,

  67. in his obsession to maintain his power

  68. and his kingdom,

  69. attempted to take David's life

  70. several times.

  71. In the midst of all this,

  72. David was trying to figure out what to do

  73. and it got to the place

  74. where he realized,

  75. I just have to run.

  76. I have to leave.

  77. I can't stay here anymore.

  78. It's not safe.

  79. And so he fled for his life.

  80. He left everything behind.

  81. He left his wife.

  82. He left his family.

  83. He left his possessions

  84. with nothing but the shirt on his back.

  85. He hit the road and he ran.

  86. The first stop was to Samuel,

  87. the Lord's prophet in Ramah.

  88. But it wasn't long before Saul realized

  89. that he was there

  90. and started to come after him there.

  91. So after a meetup with Jonathan,

  92. he then fled to the town of Nob.

  93. Nob was a small town

  94. where the tabernacle was set up,

  95. where the priests served

  96. in the ministry of the tabernacle.

  97. And David went there to,

  98. and he met up with a man named Ahimelech.

  99. Ahimelech was a priest

  100. who served at the tabernacle.

  101. Out of desperation,

  102. David lied to Ahimelech.

  103. Ahimelech.

  104. He told him that he was on a secret mission

  105. from the king.

  106. And he asked Ahimelech

  107. to give him some provisions,

  108. some bread.

  109. He also asked him for a sword.

  110. Of course, David knew

  111. that the sword of Goliath was there.

  112. That's where it was being kept.

  113. And so Ahimelech helped David out that day.

  114. He gave him some provisions.

  115. He gave him the sword of Goliath.

  116. But there was one problem.

  117. There was a man there that day

  118. named Doeg the Edomite.

  119. He was a servant of Saul,

  120. Saul's chief shepherd.

  121. And he witnessed this exchange

  122. between Ahimelech and David.

  123. And so now,

  124. as David has continued on the run,

  125. he's gone into Philistine country,

  126. he was captured there,

  127. he escaped,

  128. he's back in Israel.

  129. And Saul's obsession

  130. with taking him out

  131. begins to rise again

  132. when he gets word

  133. that David is out

  134. by the cave of Adullam.

  135. On one day,

  136. Saul has

  137. what I'm going to call

  138. a bit of a temper tantrum.

  139. And he starts accusing

  140. all of his servants

  141. of conspiring against him,

  142. of supporting David.

  143. David.

  144. And it's at that moment

  145. that Doeg

  146. sees an opportunity

  147. and makes his move.

  148. Actually,

  149. your majesty,

  150. King Saul,

  151. not everyone

  152. has conspired

  153. against you.

  154. I have been loyal to you.

  155. In fact,

  156. I have some information

  157. that might be helpful to you.

  158. I saw David

  159. go to the house

  160. of Ahimelech.

  161. And Ahimelech

  162. gave him provisions

  163. and the sword of Goliath.

  164. When Saul heard this report

  165. from Doeg,

  166. he summoned Ahimelech

  167. and his family

  168. from Nob.

  169. He interrogated them.

  170. Even though Ahimelech

  171. pleaded innocent

  172. and ignorant

  173. to this situation

  174. that was going on

  175. between Saul

  176. and David,

  177. Saul decided

  178. to order

  179. to have Ahimelech

  180. and his whole family

  181. executed.

  182. Saul's officials

  183. were unwilling

  184. to lay their hands

  185. on the priests

  186. of the Lord.

  187. So Saul turns

  188. to Doeg

  189. and says,

  190. you,

  191. strike them down.

  192. And that day,

  193. Doeg did that.

  194. He struck down

  195. Ahimelech

  196. and his whole family.

  197. The record

  198. in the scriptures

  199. tells us

  200. that 85 men

  201. who served

  202. at the tabernacle

  203. were struck down

  204. that day.

  205. And then Doeg

  206. went one step further.

  207. He went to the town

  208. of Nob

  209. and he put

  210. the entire town

  211. to the sword.

  212. Not just the men

  213. but the women

  214. and even the children

  215. as well.

  216. Only one person

  217. escaped.

  218. His name

  219. was Abiathar.

  220. He was the son

  221. of Ahimelech

  222. and he managed

  223. to get away

  224. and fled

  225. to where David was.

  226. He told David

  227. what Saul

  228. and Doeg

  229. had done.

  230. and David

  231. said this to him.

  232. That day

  233. when Doeg

  234. the Edomite

  235. was there

  236. I knew

  237. he would be sure

  238. to tell Saul.

  239. I am responsible

  240. for the death

  241. of your whole family.

  242. Stay with me.

  243. Don't be afraid.

  244. The man

  245. who wants

  246. to kill you

  247. is trying

  248. to kill me too.

  249. You will be safe

  250. with me.

  251. It's at

  252. or about

  253. this time

  254. that David

  255. pens

  256. the words

  257. of Psalm 52.

  258. Let me read it

  259. for you.

  260. Why do you

  261. boast of evil

  262. you mighty hero?

  263. Why do you

  264. boast all day long

  265. you who are

  266. a disgrace

  267. in the eyes

  268. of God?

  269. You who

  270. practice deceit.

  271. Your tongue

  272. plots destruction.

  273. It's like

  274. a sharpened

  275. razor.

  276. You love

  277. evil

  278. rather than

  279. good.

  280. Falsehood

  281. rather than

  282. speaking the truth.

  283. you love

  284. every harmful

  285. word

  286. you deceitful

  287. tongue.

  288. Surely

  289. God will

  290. bring you

  291. down

  292. to everlasting

  293. ruin.

  294. He will

  295. snatch you

  296. up

  297. and pluck

  298. you from

  299. your tent.

  300. He will

  301. uproot you

  302. from the

  303. land of

  304. the living.

  305. The righteous

  306. will see

  307. and fear.

  308. They will

  309. laugh at you

  310. saying

  311. here now

  312. is the man

  313. who did

  314. not make

  315. God his

  316. stronghold

  317. but trusted

  318. in his

  319. great wealth

  320. and grew

  321. strong by

  322. destroying

  323. others.

  324. But I

  325. am like

  326. an olive

  327. tree

  328. flourishing

  329. in the

  330. house of

  331. God.

  332. I trust

  333. in God's

  334. unfailing

  335. love

  336. forever

  337. and ever.

  338. For what

  339. you have

  340. done

  341. I will

  342. always

  343. praise you

  344. in the

  345. presence

  346. of your

  347. faithful

  348. people

  349. and I

  350. will

  351. hope

  352. in your

  353. name

  354. for your

  355. name

  356. is

  357. good.

  358. Now

  359. these are

  360. probably

  361. not all

  362. of the

  363. things that

  364. David had

  365. to say

  366. about

  367. Doeg

  368. and that

  369. whole

  370. situation.

  371. It probably

  372. doesn't represent

  373. everything that

  374. David has

  375. felt about

  376. this tragedy

  377. that has

  378. taken place.

  379. if we

  380. just go

  381. back to

  382. for a

  383. moment to

  384. his own

  385. admission

  386. where he

  387. said I

  388. am responsible

  389. for the

  390. death of

  391. your whole

  392. family.

  393. We can

  394. draw from

  395. that that

  396. David has

  397. already been

  398. through the

  399. full range

  400. of emotions

  401. here.

  402. He has

  403. felt

  404. sadness

  405. and grief

  406. at the

  407. tragedy that

  408. has occurred.

  409. He has

  410. felt guilt.

  411. He has

  412. blamed himself

  413. for what

  414. has happened.

  415. He has

  416. probably

  417. felt anger

  418. and frustration

  419. towards

  420. Doeg,

  421. towards

  422. Saul,

  423. and yet

  424. powerlessness

  425. to do

  426. anything about

  427. this.

  428. While here

  429. he is out

  430. in the edge

  431. of the

  432. desert hill

  433. country in

  434. a cave with

  435. a few

  436. guys,

  437. he's

  438. probably

  439. felt fear.

  440. if that's

  441. what Saul

  442. will do

  443. to a

  444. Himalek

  445. for the

  446. one day

  447. I stopped

  448. by and

  449. asked for

  450. some help,

  451. what will

  452. he do

  453. to me

  454. and to

  455. others I

  456. care about

  457. if he

  458. gets a

  459. hold of

  460. us,

  461. if he

  462. finds

  463. us?

  464. At some

  465. point in

  466. David's

  467. wrestling

  468. through all

  469. of this,

  470. he comes

  471. to the

  472. place where

  473. he pens

  474. Psalm 52.

  475. this

  476. psalm is

  477. unlike

  478. many of

  479. David's

  480. other

  481. psalms.

  482. His

  483. other

  484. psalms

  485. often

  486. begin

  487. with him

  488. addressing

  489. God

  490. or

  491. addressing

  492. the

  493. person

  494. that

  495. he's

  496. writing

  497. to.

  498. But

  499. here

  500. he begins

  501. with a

  502. question

  503. addressed

  504. to

  505. his

  506. enemy.

  507. He

  508. says,

  509. why do

  510. you boast

  511. of evil,

  512. you mighty

  513. hero?

  514. we're

  515. kind of

  516. left to

  517. wonder

  518. just who

  519. he's

  520. referring

  521. to.

  522. Is he

  523. talking

  524. about

  525. Doeg?

  526. Is he

  527. talking

  528. about

  529. Saul?

  530. Does

  531. he leave

  532. it

  533. purposely

  534. ambiguous

  535. to include

  536. both and

  537. maybe any

  538. others who

  539. have banded

  540. together

  541. against him

  542. or

  543. participated

  544. in this

  545. slaughter?

  546. Interesting

  547. way to

  548. begin a

  549. song

  550. with a

  551. question

  552. to your

  553. enemy.

  554. Why do

  555. you boast

  556. of evil,

  557. you mighty

  558. hero?

  559. It's not a

  560. question that

  561. David's enemy

  562. can answer.

  563. Or is

  564. David looking

  565. for an

  566. answer?

  567. Perhaps

  568. David is

  569. making a

  570. statement,

  571. more of a

  572. rhetorical

  573. question.

  574. Why do

  575. you boast

  576. of evil,

  577. you mighty

  578. hero?

  579. In other

  580. words,

  581. you think

  582. yourself a

  583. hero,

  584. you think

  585. yourself a

  586. mighty man

  587. because of

  588. your accomplishments,

  589. because of the

  590. things that you

  591. have done,

  592. which are

  593. evil,

  594. but you

  595. shouldn't.

  596. You're a

  597. fool to

  598. congratulate

  599. yourself,

  600. to be proud

  601. of what you

  602. have done,

  603. because what

  604. you have

  605. done is

  606. evil.

  607. verse 2,

  608. he goes on

  609. to describe

  610. the kinds

  611. of things

  612. that his

  613. enemy has

  614. done.

  615. He says,

  616. practicing

  617. deceit,

  618. plotting

  619. destruction.

  620. He says,

  621. your values,

  622. they're

  623. completely

  624. backwards to

  625. what they

  626. should be.

  627. You love

  628. evil rather

  629. than good.

  630. You love

  631. falsehood rather

  632. than speaking

  633. the truth.

  634. You love

  635. every harmful

  636. word,

  637. words that

  638. are hurtful

  639. to others,

  640. literally,

  641. words that

  642. devour

  643. others.

  644. You deceitful

  645. tongue.

  646. Again,

  647. we probably

  648. see that the

  649. description here

  650. fits both

  651. Doeg and

  652. Saul and

  653. perhaps others.

  654. Saul has

  655. been the

  656. source,

  657. of the

  658. lies that

  659. have been

  660. spread about

  661. David,

  662. of the

  663. plans and

  664. the plots

  665. for David's

  666. destruction.

  667. But Doeg

  668. also falls

  669. under these

  670. words as

  671. well.

  672. If anybody

  673. has loved

  674. evil,

  675. it's him.

  676. Not only

  677. is he

  678. willing to

  679. earn favor

  680. with the

  681. king by

  682. tattling on

  683. David,

  684. knowing that

  685. it will

  686. probably get

  687. Ahimelech and

  688. his family

  689. into trouble,

  690. but then he

  691. goes so far

  692. as to

  693. execute the

  694. king's

  695. orders and

  696. slaughter all

  697. of these

  698. innocent people.

  699. You love

  700. evil rather

  701. than good.

  702. You boast

  703. of what your

  704. hands have

  705. done for you.

  706. You think

  707. yourself a

  708. hero,

  709. a champion,

  710. God's

  711. going to

  712. pluck you

  713. from your

  714. tent.

  715. He will

  716. uproot you

  717. from the

  718. land of

  719. the living.

  720. You boast right now.

  721. You think you've gotten away with this.

  722. Nobody can touch you

  723. because you're on the side of power.

  724. But you're wrong.

  725. God will see that justice is done.

  726. God himself will make things right.

  727. God himself will come and bring you down.

  728. And when he does, it will be permanent.

  729. It will be forever, everlasting,

  730. something you will not rise up from.

  731. David says he will snatch you up

  732. and pluck you from your tent.

  733. The picture there is of God's hand reaching in

  734. and grabbing Doeg right out of his house,

  735. his tent, the place that he lives.

  736. He says he will uproot you

  737. from the land of the living.

  738. You may think that you're well-rooted now,

  739. that you're secure in this position

  740. that you have earned for yourself

  741. through deceit and through evil.

  742. But God will rip you out, roots and all,

  743. right out of the land of the living.

  744. And it'll be the end for you.

  745. God will see that justice is done.

  746. And he will make things right,

  747. says David.

  748. And when he does, verse 6,

  749. the righteous will see and fear.

  750. They will take notice of how God has dealt with Doeg

  751. and how God has dealt with Saul.

  752. And they will think to themselves twice

  753. when they are considering doing what is wrong,

  754. what is evil.

  755. It will strike a reverence into their hearts.

  756. Not only that,

  757. they will move from fear, it says, to laughter.

  758. The righteous will see in fear.

  759. They will laugh at you, saying,

  760. here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold,

  761. but trusted in his great wealth

  762. and grew strong by destroying others.

  763. Now, if we look at other scriptures,

  764. this is, I'm not sure exactly how to take this myself,

  765. but probably not an endorsement

  766. of how we should gloat over other people

  767. when they face justice.

  768. I don't think it means that kind of laughing.

  769. But God's people will, in the end,

  770. they will say to those who have lived

  771. as Doeg and Saul did,

  772. here now is the man

  773. who did not make God his stronghold,

  774. but trusted in his great wealth

  775. and mighty strength.

  776. The utter foolishness of what they have done

  777. will be so apparent,

  778. it will be so obvious,

  779. it will be laughable.

  780. You put all of your eggs in that basket,

  781. and yet that's completely powerless

  782. to save you from the good and right justice of God

  783. when it comes.

  784. From David's perspective,

  785. he now kind of turns and shifts

  786. from talking to his enemy

  787. to now talking a little bit about himself.

  788. From David's perspective,

  789. in his situation,

  790. Saul and Doeg are still in power.

  791. these men who have mercilessly massacred

  792. all these innocent people.

  793. And yet David says this,

  794. he says,

  795. but I am like an olive tree

  796. flourishing in the house of God.

  797. When I first read that,

  798. I thought,

  799. I don't really get that.

  800. Olive tree is not really the most

  801. relatable thing for me.

  802. But the more I meditated on this,

  803. the more I began to see

  804. just how beautiful these words are.

  805. Here David is,

  806. on the outskirts of the desert hill country,

  807. a fugitive,

  808. hiding in caves,

  809. fearing for his life.

  810. Meanwhile,

  811. these tyrants are running the show.

  812. And he says,

  813. but I am like an olive tree

  814. flourishing in the house of God.

  815. I'm like a house plant,

  816. like a tree that's

  817. inside God's own house.

  818. And I'm flourishing.

  819. I'm green.

  820. Because God himself

  821. is watching over me,

  822. is tending to me,

  823. is caring for me.

  824. David says,

  825. I trust in God's unfailing love.

  826. Forever and ever.

  827. You want to know

  828. what's carrying me

  829. through the storms

  830. of this situation?

  831. Through the tragedy

  832. that I've witnessed

  833. and even been a part of?

  834. God's unfailing love.

  835. I'm trusting in that.

  836. I'm leaning on that.

  837. I'm depending on that.

  838. And not just today,

  839. but always.

  840. Forever I will.

  841. Because that's the kind of love

  842. that he has for his people.

  843. It's faithful love.

  844. It's unfailing love.

  845. Covenant love.

  846. The love that makes promises

  847. and keeps them.

  848. One hundred percent.

  849. He goes on in verse nine.

  850. He says,

  851. for what you have done,

  852. I will always praise you

  853. in the presence

  854. of your faithful people.

  855. He pledges not just

  856. the worship of today,

  857. but even the worship

  858. of his tomorrow

  859. to the Lord.

  860. For what you have done,

  861. I will always praise you.

  862. The things that you have done,

  863. Lord,

  864. in the past,

  865. the things you will yet do

  866. in this situation,

  867. I will look back on them

  868. and I will praise you for them

  869. because they are good.

  870. They are right.

  871. They always have been

  872. and they always will be.

  873. And so you have my worship,

  874. Lord.

  875. At the end of verse nine,

  876. he says,

  877. I will hope in your name

  878. for your name is good.

  879. The word hope there

  880. literally means wait upon.

  881. I will wait upon your name.

  882. David's situation hasn't changed.

  883. He's still skulking about

  884. in the desert,

  885. afraid for his life.

  886. Doeg and Saul are still in power

  887. at the helm of the ship in Israel.

  888. What's David going to do about it?

  889. I will wait upon your name.

  890. I'm waiting for you, Lord,

  891. to come and make things right,

  892. to come and deal with these guys.

  893. For your name is good

  894. and you will,

  895. you will do good

  896. in this situation.

  897. you will bring good from it.

  898. Now this situation in David's life

  899. might feel a little hard

  900. for us to relate to.

  901. None of us have been

  902. in a situation like this.

  903. But what does the Lord

  904. have to say to us

  905. through these words?

  906. our situation may not be the same,

  907. but some of us,

  908. if we're honest,

  909. are in a situation.

  910. A situation that's not going

  911. the way that we want it to.

  912. A situation in which we maybe

  913. have already gone through

  914. the full range of emotions

  915. or are going through them

  916. right now.

  917. A situation perhaps

  918. in which we feel like

  919. we're powerless

  920. to do anything about it.

  921. David encourages us

  922. in the midst of these kinds

  923. of situations

  924. to turn our eyes to heaven,

  925. to the Lord,

  926. to Jesus,

  927. to put our trust

  928. in him,

  929. in his unfailing love,

  930. in his tender, loving care.

  931. For those of us

  932. who are in Christ,

  933. we can say,

  934. with David,

  935. but I am like an olive tree

  936. flourishing in the house of God.

  937. Even while we walk

  938. through the desert,

  939. even while we sleep

  940. in the darkness

  941. of the cave,

  942. because God takes care

  943. of his people.

  944. And even though things

  945. might not look good

  946. in the situation

  947. that we're in,

  948. God will make things right.

  949. He always does

  950. for his people.

  951. He always will.

  952. If there's one thing

  953. that we learn from David

  954. in this psalm,

  955. it's that we should look ahead.

  956. Many times in this

  957. short little psalm,

  958. David uses the word will.

  959. He will.

  960. God will.

  961. I will.

  962. He encourages us

  963. to look ahead

  964. to the future.

  965. The bigger picture.

  966. as we look around,

  967. see the world around us,

  968. look at our government,

  969. we look at all kinds

  970. of things,

  971. we look at what people

  972. are doing,

  973. we may see all kinds

  974. of things that we

  975. would say are evil,

  976. are wrong.

  977. We may see those people,

  978. some people using

  979. their position,

  980. their power,

  981. to bring about things

  982. at the expense

  983. of others.

  984. But take heart,

  985. God will make things right.

  986. We may look at

  987. the political landscape

  988. and see how things

  989. are changing there

  990. and how some are

  991. pushing for their agenda

  992. and trying to bring

  993. about things

  994. that are really

  995. going to be damaging

  996. for some

  997. or for others,

  998. for many.

  999. but take heart,

  1000. God will make

  1001. things right.

  1002. I want to end

  1003. this message

  1004. with the ultimate

  1005. restatement

  1006. of this

  1007. psalm

  1008. which comes

  1009. through the

  1010. Apostle Paul

  1011. in his letter

  1012. to the church

  1013. at Rome.

  1014. this is the confidence

  1015. that we can have,

  1016. those of us

  1017. who are in Christ

  1018. as we look ahead,

  1019. nothing

  1020. can separate us

  1021. from the unfailing

  1022. love of God.

  1023. Let me read it

  1024. for you

  1025. from Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  1026. chapter 8.

  1027. And we know

  1028. that in all things

1029. God works for the good

1030. of those who love him

  1031. who have been called

  1032. according to his purpose.

  1033. For those God

  1034. foreknew,

  1035. he also

  1036. predestined

  1037. to be conformed

  1038. to the image

  1039. of his son

  1040. that he might be

  1041. the firstborn

  1042. among many

  1043. brothers and sisters.

  1044. and those

  1045. he predestined

  1046. he also

  1047. called.

  1048. Those he called

  1049. he also

  1050. justified.

  1051. Those he justified

  1052. he also

  1053. glorified.

  1054. What then

  1055. shall we say

  1056. in response

  1057. to these things?

  1058. If God

  1059. is for

  1060. us,

  1061. who can be

  1062. against us?

  1063. He who did not

  1064. spare his own

  1065. son but gave

  1066. him up

  1067. for us all,

  1068. how will he not

  1069. also along

  1070. with him

  1071. graciously give

  1072. us all things?

  1073. Who will bring

  1074. any charge

  1075. against those

  1076. whom God

  1077. has chosen?

  1078. It is God

  1079. who justifies.

  1080. Who then

  1081. is the one

  1082. who condemns?

  1083. No one,

  1084. Christ Jesus

  1085. who died,

  1086. more than that,

  1087. who was raised

  1088. to life,

  1089. is at the

  1090. right hand

  1091. of God

  1092. and is also

  1093. interceding

  1094. for us.

  1095. And so

  1096. who shall

  1097. separate us

  1098. from the

  1099. love of Christ?

  1100. Shall

  1101. trouble

  1102. or

  1103. hardship

  1104. or

  1105. persecution

  1106. or

  1107. famine

  1108. or

  1109. nakedness

  1110. or

  1111. danger

  1112. or

  1113. sword

  1114. for

  1115. Ahimelech

  1116. and his

  1117. family?

  1118. No.

  1119. In all

  1120. these things

  1121. we are

  1122. more

  1123. than

  1124. conquerors

  1125. through

  1126. him who

  1127. loved us.

  1128. For I am

  1129. convinced that

  1130. neither

  1131. death

  1132. nor life,

  1133. neither

  1134. angels

  1135. nor

  1136. demons,

  1137. neither

  1138. the present

  1139. nor the future,

  1140. nor any

  1141. powers,

  1142. nor anything

  1143. else in all

  1144. creation

  1145. will be able

  1146. to separate

  1147. us from

  1148. the love

  1149. of God

  1150. that is in

  1151. Christ Jesus

  1152. our Lord.

  1153. And so

  1154. with whatever

  1155. situation

  1156. you find

  1157. yourself in

  1158. today,

  1159. this week,

  1160. let us

  1161. trust in

  1162. the unfailing

  1163. love of

  1164. the Lord.

  1165. Lord,

  1166. he will

  1167. make

  1168. things

  1169. right

  1170. as we

  1171. wait on

  1172. him.

  1173. Let's

  1174. pray.

  1175. Father,

  1176. you know

  1177. the darkness

  1178. and the

  1179. difficulty of

  1180. some of the

  1181. things that

  1182. we're going

  1183. through.

  1184. And while

  1185. we don't

  1186. see clearly

  1187. or understand

  1188. your purpose

  1189. why you

  1190. allow some

  1191. of these

  1192. things to

  1193. happen,

  1194. we choose

  1195. today to

  1196. trust in

  1197. your unfailing

  1198. love.

  1199. We choose

  1200. today to

  1201. say with

  1202. David,

  1203. I am like

  1204. an olive

  1205. tree,

  1206. flourishing in

  1207. your house.

  1208. You take

  1209. such good

  1210. care of

  1211. us.

  1212. And we

  1213. love you.

  1214. in Christ's

  1215. name we

  1216. pray.

  1217. Amen.

  1218. Will you

  1219. join with

  1220. me in

  1221. our final

  1222. hymn?

  1223. How

  1224. great is

  1225. our God?

  1226. Please

  1227. stand if

  1228. you're

  1229. able.
