  1. We're continuing on this morning in our walk through the story of Jesus according to John.

  2. If you have your Bible with you, please open it up. I'd encourage you to do that and to follow along.

  3. If you don't have one, make use of the Pew Bible. We have that there for you as well.

  4. And last Sunday we looked at and we talked about what does it mean to be born again?

  5. It's kind of a big question and we got into that a little bit, Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus.

  6. We learned a little bit about what Jesus had to say about that, that there's this second birth that we must undergo to enter the kingdom of God.

  7. And it's not a physical rebirth, it's a spiritual birth, something God does in us by his spirit.

  8. But we're going to continue on looking at this conversation that Jesus had with Nicodemus and find out how this conversation ended up.

  9. Because we kind of had that big question last Sunday of, well, how is this going to turn out for Nicodemus?

  10. What's going to happen with him here in this story?

  11. So let's just kind of remember what got us into this conversation in the first place.

  12. John kind of gave this summary.

  13. Jesus went up to Jerusalem and he was there for the Passover and the week which followed.

  14. And it says this in verse 23, it says that many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.

  15. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them for he knew all people.

  16. He did not need any testimony about mankind for he knew what was in each person.

  17. So Jesus seems to have this knowledge of people that goes beyond what just any ordinary person would have of another person.

  18. Nicodemus said this in his first thing he said to Jesus.

  19. He said, no one could perform the signs you're doing if God were not with him.

  20. But let's also notice that his disciples saw that he has this knowledge of people that no one could have unless God were with him.

  21. And as we'll find out, it's even more than that.

  22. So that's what we're looking at this morning.

  23. We're looking at this truth of what Jesus knows about people.

  24. I put it up there on the screen in a different translation just to give you a little bit of a sense of the word for word.

  25. Jesus on his part was not entrusting himself to those people at the Passover and the festival.

  26. For he knew all men.

  27. And because he did not need anyone to testify concerning man.

  28. For he himself knew what was in a man.

  29. What is John telling us here?

  30. As I was studying deeper into this, one of the things that really just jumped off the page was the tense of the verbs in the original language.

  31. It's a very grammatical thing, but it really does give us a whole other sense of what John is talking about here.

  32. So to kind of just give you a little bit of a picture,

  33. this is not a good English translation, but it kind of gives a sense of the tense of the verbs that John uses.

  34. But Jesus was not entrusting himself to them.

  35. That's to the people who saw his signs and believed.

  36. For he was knowing all men.

  37. And because he was not having need that anyone testify concerning man.

  38. For he himself was knowing what was in man.

  39. So you get a sense a little bit from the tense of the verbs here.

  40. This is not John just kind of reflecting back and here's a principle that I found out later.

  41. Jesus knows what's in people's hearts.

  42. No, the sense of it here is that here Jesus is at the festival.

  43. And as he's having interactions with people, his disciples are watching and they're noticing that he has knowledge of the people that he's talking to and interacting with.

  44. He knows things about them.

  45. Specific things.

  46. It's kind of a sense.

  47. You almost get the sense that it happened repeatedly.

  48. And as they're watching this, the disciples notice that Jesus isn't getting information about these various people from anyone.

  49. Like there's nobody running background checks on them and slipping him notes about this person or that person.

  50. You get the sense that as he has these interactions with people, he just knows things about them.

  51. Just like he did with Nathaniel when he said, I saw you sitting under the fig tree.

  52. Not only does he know things about people, but John tells us that he was knowing what was in them.

  53. He was knowing what was in man.

  54. And probably the NIV has it right when it says that he was knowing what was in or he knew what was in each person.

  55. And so this whole story of Nicodemus, this conversation is an example of that.

  56. John has just made the point.

  57. Jesus knows what is in people.

  58. He knows what's in a man.

  59. And then he goes off into this story of Nicodemus.

  60. And here's an example of the kind of thing that I'm talking about when I say that.

  61. And to see that link, you can look just at the beginning of chapter 3 and the very end of chapter 2.

  62. It's on the screen there.

  63. For he himself knew what was in man.

  64. Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus.

  65. So Nicodemus is the case.

  66. He's the case test, the example.

  67. And so that's where we're going this morning.

  68. We're going to look at what does Jesus know about Nicodemus?

  69. And I think that's really the main purpose why John has included this in the story at this point.

  70. You remember that first thing that Nicodemus said to Jesus?

  71. This is how the conversation starts.

  72. Nicodemus says,

  73. Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God.

  74. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.

  75. And already, right off the bat, we start to see this contrast starting.

  76. John's putting this in to tell us about what Jesus knows.

  77. But the conversation starts with Nicodemus telling Jesus what he knows about Jesus.

  78. Or what he and his fellow Pharisees, members of the ruling council, think they know about Jesus.

  79. We've seen the signs that you're doing.

  80. And so we know that you are a teacher.

  81. We know that you're a teacher.

  82. But even here, you know, we start to see this contrast.

  83. I mean, John's just told us, Jesus knows what's in a man.

  84. He knows people.

  85. And the picture we get of Nicodemus and the Pharisees here

  86. is just of ordinary people just trying to figure out,

  87. who is this Jesus guy?

  88. What's his deal?

  89. I mean, we're seeing the miracles.

  90. So he's got to be at least a teacher.

  91. They don't really know who Jesus is.

  92. And this contrast just gets stronger and stronger

  93. as we go throughout this conversation with Nicodemus.

  94. So let's be reminded of it a little bit.

  95. The first thing we see is right after this, Jesus kind of responds.

  96. We looked at this last Sunday.

  97. He tells Nicodemus that he has to be born again

  98. to enter the kingdom of God.

  99. So Jesus knows that entrance into the kingdom of God

  100. requires second birth.

  101. And Nicodemus responds with,

  102. how can a man be born when he's old?

  103. He doesn't know what Jesus is talking about.

  104. That's the first part of the conversation.

  105. Then it goes on from there.

  106. And we see that Jesus knows that this second birth

  107. is a spiritual birth.

  108. is something that God does by his spirit in a person.

  109. And Nicodemus in verse 6, it says he's surprised.

  110. He wonders at this

  111. because he still doesn't know what Jesus is talking about.

  112. Jesus goes on.

  113. He talks about what he knows,

  114. how being born of the spirit is,

  115. it's like the wind.

  116. He gives an analogy.

  117. He explains it a little bit.

  118. In fact, he even kind of says that

  119. just like the wind,

  120. it's not something that,

  121. I guess, ordinary man, we might say,

  122. can understand

  123. because we can't see

  124. the spiritual

  125. just like we can't see the wind.

  126. Nicodemus' response is,

  127. how can this be?

  128. How can these things be?

  129. He still doesn't know

  130. what Jesus is talking about.

  131. So you see this.

  132. Jesus knows

  133. what's in a man

  134. and he knows all these things.

  135. But Nicodemus,

  136. he doesn't know.

  137. He doesn't understand, really,

  138. what Jesus is talking about.

  139. Eventually, it comes down to a bit of a head

  140. in verse 10

  141. where Jesus

  142. chides

  143. Nicodemus.

  144. He says,

  145. you are Israel's teacher

  146. and do you not understand

  147. these things?

  148. Another word for no.

  149. This is really a big theme here.

  150. And can you imagine

  151. how Nicodemus is feeling

  152. as he hears this?

  153. Imagine how you'd be feeling

  154. if you're him,

  155. you know,

  156. and Jesus

  157. looks you in the eye

  158. and says this to you

  159. in front of other people.

  160. You are Israel's teacher

  161. and do you not understand

  162. these things?

  163. Like, I imagine

  164. I'd be feeling

  165. a little bit embarrassed,

  166. maybe a little bit humiliated

  167. or shamed,

  168. you know,

  169. like,

  170. if I'm proud,

  171. maybe a little bit

  172. even angry.

  173. Like, what do you mean?

  174. Are you telling me

  175. that this

  176. born again

  177. of the spirit stuff

  178. is like the basics

  179. and I don't get it?

  180. Or are you saying

  181. that I'm not qualified

  182. to be a teacher

  183. in Israel?

  184. But we want to give Nicodemus

  185. a little bit of slack.

  186. I mean,

  187. it's easy for us

  188. to look at him

  189. and think,

  190. oh,

  191. poor Nicodemus.

  192. He just doesn't get it.

  193. But let's think about

  194. what we know,

  195. what we understand.

  196. Put yourself in the room there

  197. with the disciples

  198. as Jesus

  199. starts saying

  200. these things

  201. to Nicodemus.

  202. If you want to enter

  203. the kingdom of God,

  204. you need to be born again.

  205. Do you know

  206. what Jesus

  207. is talking about?

  208. Do you understand

  209. spiritual birth

  210. and what all that entails

  211. and how it works?

  212. I think if we're honest,

  213. we have to admit

  214. that just like

  215. we can't see the wind,

  216. we don't really know

  217. how the spiritual works.

  218. We're kind of a little bit

  219. in the same boat

  220. as Nicodemus.

  221. Jesus knows these things

  222. as if they're,

  223. you know,

  224. this is how it is

  225. and we don't really know

  226. what he's talking about either.

  227. We have what he says

  228. to go on

  229. and what we have

  230. in other places

  231. of the word of God.

  232. But this is something

  233. that we don't fully understand.

  234. Spiritual birth?

  235. Another thing

  236. that kind of

  237. gets at us

  238. and we're kind of

  239. drawn in

  240. to ask this question

  241. as we go through the story

  242. is what's really going on

  243. with Nicodemus here?

  244. Let me ask you the question.

  245. Do you know

  246. if Nicodemus

  247. is a true believer

  248. or not?

  249. Any thoughts?

  250. There's been some indication

  251. a little bit

  252. on both sides.

  253. I mean,

  254. he started out good

  255. in what he said.

  256. He kind of seems

  257. to be an example

  258. of one who's

  259. seen the miracles

  260. and has believed

  261. in his name.

  262. But he's also

  263. an example

  264. of someone

  265. who Jesus

  266. did not entrust himself

  267. to.

  268. He started out good

  269. by saying,

  270. we know that you

  271. are a teacher

  272. who has come from God

  273. because we've seen

  274. the miracles

  275. and no one

  276. can do those things

  277. unless God

  278. were with him.

  279. But then on the other side,

  280. just a teacher?

  281. What about

  282. the Messiah?

  283. What about

  284. some of these

  285. other things

  286. that John the Baptizer

  287. has been saying

  288. that the other disciples

  289. have confessed

  290. about Christ?

  291. Is Nicodemus

  292. a true believer

  293. or not?

  294. We don't know.

  295. And I'm going to guess

  296. that probably

  297. Jesus' disciples

  298. are wondering too.

  299. They're kind of

  300. looking at it

  301. from the same kind

  302. of human perspective

  303. that we have.

  304. What's really going on

  305. here with Nicodemus?

  306. Is he going to join us?

  307. Is he one of us?

  308. Does he believe?

  309. Even as we come down

  310. to verse 9,

  311. Nicodemus,

  312. after all this

  313. talk of being

  314. born of the Spirit,

  315. he says,

  316. how can this be?

  317. We don't even know

  318. what he meant by that.

  319. Was that

  320. an expression of wonder?

  321. Was it an expression

  322. that was,

  323. was it a sincere question?

  324. How can these things be?

  325. Like,

  326. how does it work?

  327. Was this a statement

  328. of skepticism?

  329. Like,

  330. how can this be?

  331. Or unbelief?

  332. unbelief.

  333. Does Nicodemus agree

  334. with all this stuff

  335. that Jesus has been saying

  336. or does he disagree

  337. with it?

  338. We don't know.

  339. Because we don't know

  340. what's in a man.

  341. What's really going on

  342. in the heart

  343. of a person.

  344. And this is,

  345. this is where we come

  346. to this pinnacle moment

  347. in the passage

  348. because Jesus

  349. does know

  350. whether Nicodemus

  351. is a true believer

  352. or not.

  353. He does know

  354. what's going on

  355. in Nicodemus' heart.

  356. And he's actually

  357. about to tell us

  358. that,

  359. he's about to tell

  360. Nicodemus

  361. what Nicodemus

  362. really believes.

  363. And so let's

  364. see that

  365. as we read on.

  366. Jesus says,

  367. very truly,

  368. verse 11,

  369. I tell you,

  370. we speak

  371. of what we know

  372. and we testify

  373. to what we have seen.

  374. but still,

  375. you people

  376. do not accept

  377. our testimony.

  378. Now there's a couple

  379. things in here

  380. we want to just notice

  381. before we get

  382. to the answer.

  383. Jesus speaks

  384. in the first,

  385. the first person plural.

  386. He says,

  387. we.

  388. Who are the we?

  389. Now,

  390. commentators

  391. and scholars,

  392. they've put a whole

  393. bunch of different

  394. ideas to this.

  395. At the end of the day,

  396. we don't really know

  397. what Jesus meant

  398. by that.

  399. Don't take it

  400. as gospel truth.

  401. My best guess

  402. is that perhaps

  403. other things

  404. were talked about

  405. in this conversation,

  406. in this exchange,

  407. and John the Baptist,

  408. baptizer,

  409. came up

  410. and Jesus is

  411. including him

  412. in this statement.

  413. You know,

  414. we speak of

  415. what we know

  416. and we testify

  417. to what we have seen.

  418. John had seen

  419. some things

  420. about Jesus

  421. that God

  422. had revealed to him.

  423. He was a true

  424. prophet of the Lord.

  425. And his purpose,

  426. John has already told us,

  427. was to testify

  428. to what he

  429. had seen

  430. about Jesus,

  431. what the Lord

  432. revealed to him

  433. about Jesus.

  434. And so perhaps

  435. he is included

  436. by Jesus

  437. in this statement.

  438. But either way,

  439. let's not miss

  440. what is present here.

  441. At the very least,

  442. Jesus is referring

  443. to himself.

  444. You can almost read

  445. that right into the words.

  446. Very truly,

  447. I tell you,

  448. I speak

  449. of what I know

  450. and I testify

  451. to what I have seen.

  452. But still,

  453. you do not

  454. accept our testimony.

  455. The word people

  456. is not there

  457. in the original.

  458. It's actually you

  459. plural.

  460. We don't have that

  461. in English.

  462. Y'all would be

  463. the closest

  464. approximation.

  465. So,

  466. he's speaking

  467. to Nicodemus

  468. about Nicodemus,

  469. but also about

  470. his associates,

  471. the Pharisees.

  472. I tell you,

  473. I speak to you

  474. of what I know,

  475. says Jesus.

  476. I testify

  477. to you

  478. what I have seen.

  479. But you,

  480. Nicodemus,

  481. do not accept

  482. my testimony.

  483. So there it is

  484. right there.

  485. Jesus has made it clear.

  486. Nicodemus

  487. has not accepted

  488. his testimony.

  489. And in case

  490. there's any doubt,

  491. in the next verse,

  492. Jesus makes it

  493. crystal clear.

  494. He says it again

  495. to Nicodemus.

  496. I have spoken

  497. to you

  498. of earthly things

  499. and you

  500. do not believe.

  501. How then

  502. will you believe

  503. if I speak

  504. of heavenly things?

  505. this is

  506. an interesting

  507. moment

  508. in the conversation.

  509. Maybe you've had

  510. a conversation

  511. or two

  512. that has gone

  513. this way

  514. where you kind

  515. of get to

  516. this moment

  517. where it's like

  518. we can't really

  519. go any further

  520. unless we sort

  521. this out.

  522. That's kind

  523. of the feeling

  524. I get

  525. as I hear

  526. these words

  527. of Jesus.

  528. I've spoken

  529. to you

  530. of earthly things,

  531. things that

  532. pertain to earth,

  533. what goes on

  534. on earth

  535. between man

  536. and God

  537. and things like that

  538. and you do not

  539. believe.

  540. You haven't

  541. believed the words

  542. that I've said

  543. to you.

  544. And so

  545. what's the point

  546. of going on

  547. and talking

  548. about heavenly

  549. realities

  550. if you don't

  551. even believe

  552. the words I say

  553. about the earthly

  554. realities?

  555. It's a pretty

  556. stern thing

  557. to say

  558. but what's

  559. crystal clear

  560. is Jesus'

  561. statement

  562. Nicodemus

  563. you do not

  564. believe.

  565. You have not

  566. believed

  567. the things

  568. that I have

  569. said.

  570. So Jesus

  571. does know

  572. what is in

  573. a man.

  574. He knows

  575. what's in

  576. the heart

  577. and mind

  578. of this

  579. particular

  580. man

  581. Nicodemus.

  582. Nicodemus

  583. came

  584. saying

  585. we know

  586. that you're

  587. from God.

  588. He seems

  589. in one sense

  590. to be

  591. someone who

  592. believes

  593. but Jesus

  594. knows

  595. Nicodemus'

  596. heart.

  597. He knows

  598. that deep

  599. down

  600. he does

  601. not accept

  602. the testimony

  603. that Jesus

  604. has given.

  605. He does

  606. not believe

  607. that he

  608. is

  609. the Messiah.

  610. God

  611. God

  612. has given

  613. this

  614. knowledge.

  615. That's

  616. the big

  617. question.

  618. How can

  619. he know

  620. well enough

  621. to tell

  622. a man

  623. what's

  624. going on

  625. in his

  626. own heart

  627. and his

  628. own mind

  629. that whether

  630. he believes

  631. or not

  632. whether

  633. he's a

  634. true

  635. believer

  636. or not

  637. my mind goes back to these words spoken through the prophet jeremiah the heart is deceitful

  638. above all things and beyond cure who can understand it

  639. that's the way the human heart is says the lord who can understand it nobody

  640. can understand what's really going on in the human heart especially of another person

  641. and there's even the sense in this passage the heart is deceitful

  642. in which we we don't even understand fully what's going on in our own hearts

  643. but the amazing thing about god is this he says i the lord i

  644. yahweh search the heart and examine the mind

  645. he knows what's going on in the hearts of people he's god

  646. and jesus also has this knowledge he knows what's going on in man

  647. so what's going on here jesus will say this later in john we're not there yet but

  648. jesus says in john 10 verse 37 and 38 he says do not believe me

    John 10:37

  649. unless i do the works of my father if i do them believe the works that you may know

  650. and understand that the father is in me and i in the father

  651. so jesus

  652. he's talking about his oneness with god

  653. i am in god the father

  654. he is in me

  655. there's a oneness there

  656. and the evidence of that is that we do the same things

  657. i do the works of my father

  658. the lord god searches the heart and mind

  659. of man

  660. he knows what's in a man

  661. and you've seen

  662. that i do too

  663. it's evidence

  664. it points to who jesus is that he is not just a man

  665. he is as john has been telling us

  666. the son of god

  667. he is

  668. the word who was god

  669. and then became flesh

  670. and came

  671. to live among us

  672. from there jesus goes into

  673. he he says this

  674. this really

  675. i think we call it a crazy thing

  676. it's it's it's a wonderful thing in verse 13

  677. he says to nicodemus

  678. no one has ever gone into heaven except

  679. the one who came from heaven

  680. the son of man

  681. now why does jesus say this

  682. it's kind of an interesting thing to say

  683. but if we think back on what

  684. jesus has been saying

  685. he's been saying

  686. i know

  687. about earthly things

  688. and i know about heavenly things

  689. he's been saying

  690. i i i speak

  691. what i know

  692. i testify to what i have seen

  693. and i could speak to you nicodemus

  694. about heavenly things

  695. i could speak to you about earthly things

  696. how do you have that knowledge

  697. how do you know

  698. heavenly things

  699. i think this is part of the answer

  700. that jesus gives

  701. he says no one has ever gone into heaven

  702. no man has ever gone

  703. into heaven

  704. and and been there in the heavenly realms

  705. we could talk about

  706. the prophets having visions

  707. you know

  708. they they saw glimpses of heaven

  709. but nobody's

  710. like been there

  711. in the heavenly realm

  712. to see it

  713. nobody says

  714. has ascended

  715. is it kind of the literal

  716. the word

  717. gone up

  718. into heaven

  719. no mere man has done that

  720. but there is one

  721. says jesus

  722. who has come down

  723. from heaven

  724. and i think part of the implication there is

  725. i know about the things of heaven

  726. i i can tell you about what i have seen

  727. heavenly things

  728. because i've been there

  729. i've come down from heaven

  730. that's how i can tell you

  731. about those kinds of things

  732. and i understand those kinds of things

  733. no one has ever gone into heaven

  734. except the one who came from heaven

  735. the son of man

  736. son of man is

  737. is the title that jesus uses

  738. to refer to himself

  739. a number of times

  740. this is how the conversation closes

  741. and we looked at this at the lord's table last sunday

  742. what i love about this

  743. is that

  744. nicodemus and jesus

  745. there they are talking face to face

  746. jesus is looking

  747. nicodemus in the eyes

  748. and all this while

  749. as he talks to him

  750. he knows that nicodemus

  751. does not

  752. accept the things he's saying

  753. he knows that nicodemus

  754. does not believe

  755. what he's saying

  756. he doesn't consider it to be true

  757. and yet at the end of the conversation

  758. this is what he says

  759. he gives nicodemus

  760. yet another gracious opportunity

  761. to believe

  762. you're going to see something nicodemus

  763. i'm going to give you one more sign

  764. to watch out for

  765. and to look for

  766. that will show you

  767. that will

  768. that will help you see

  769. that i am

  770. the son of man

  771. the one who has come down from heaven

  772. and the sign was this

  773. we talked about it last sunday

  774. that he would be lifted up

  775. on a pole or on a cross

  776. so that whoever looks to him

  777. might be saved

  778. just like

  779. the old testament story

  780. when god sent those venomous snakes

  781. among the people

  782. they were to look

  783. to the snake on the pole

  784. and if they did that

  785. they would be saved

  786. the same kind of thing

  787. is going to happen with me

  788. nicodemus

  789. nicodemus

  790. watch for it

  791. those who believe

  792. as in truly believe

  793. may have eternal life

  794. the question is

  795. will nicodemus

  796. believe

  797. will he see the sign

  798. will he recognize it

  799. this is kind of where

  800. the rubber hits the road

  801. and we talked a little bit

  802. about this in sunday school

  803. touched on it

  804. at a couple points

  805. but

  806. believing

  807. versus truly believing

  808. Jesus knows

  809. what's in the heart

  810. he knows what's in

  811. your heart

  812. he knows

  813. whether

  814. what we say

  815. when we say

  816. I believe

  817. is genuine

  818. or not

  819. and true belief

  820. is characterized

  821. not just by saying

  822. the words

  823. we know

  824. that you are a teacher

  825. who has come from God

  826. but by truly

  827. accepting

  828. the words

  829. that Christ

  830. has said

  831. receiving

  832. his testimony

  833. considering

  834. the very words

  835. that he said

  836. is true

  837. this is the big question

  838. if nicodemus

  839. believes

  840. that Jesus

  841. has come from God

  842. as a teacher

  843. then the implication

  844. is that he should

  845. listen to him

  846. because Jesus

  847. speaks

  848. God's words

  849. he should

  850. obey

  851. and do the things

  852. that Jesus

  853. tells him to do

  854. and yet

  855. Jesus

  856. he knows

  857. that nicodemus

  858. does not truly

  859. believe

  860. he recognizes

  861. that

  862. that perhaps

  863. he has come from God

  864. because no one

  865. could do these

  866. kinds of things

  867. otherwise

  868. but he's not

  869. willing

  870. to

  871. to take that

  872. next step

  873. and to

  874. actually

  875. consider

  876. yes

  877. you are

  878. the Messiah

  879. he does not

  880. believe

  881. yet

  882. we'll have to

  883. find out

  884. later on

  885. in the gospel

  886. how

  887. this story

  888. goes with

  889. nicodemus

  890. does he

  891. end up

  892. becoming a believer

  893. or not

  894. but there's a

  895. word here

  896. for us

  897. I think

  898. Jesus

  899. knows

  900. not just

  901. what goes

  902. on in

  903. nicodemus

  904. his heart

  905. he knows

  906. what goes

  907. on in

  908. your heart

  909. in my

  910. heart

  911. he knows

  912. what's

  913. in a

  914. man

  915. some

  916. people

  917. they're

  918. they're

  919. tough

  920. to read

  921. it's

  922. tough

  923. to get

  924. a sense

  925. on

  926. the kind

  927. of person

  928. they are

  929. some people

  930. are really

  931. good at

  932. keeping their

  933. cards

  934. close

  935. at putting

  936. on a

  937. good show

  938. and we

  939. wonder about

  940. them

  941. sometimes

  942. Jesus

  943. doesn't have

  944. that problem

  945. he knows

  946. what's in

  947. a man

  948. he knows

  949. you

  950. he knows

  951. what's in

  952. your heart

  953. he knows

  954. what's

  955. what you've

  956. buried

  957. deep down

  958. beneath

  959. the surface

  960. the things

  961. that you'd

  962. maybe

  963. not like

  964. others

  965. to see

  966. he sees

  967. that

  968. he is

  969. the Lord

  970. he searches

  971. your heart

  972. my heart

  973. he knows

  974. our thoughts

  975. he doesn't

  976. need

  977. anybody

  978. to

  979. tell him

  980. about you

  981. he knows

  982. you

  983. this is

  984. an awesome

  985. reality

  986. of who

  987. Jesus is

  988. but it's

  989. also a

  990. precious

  991. one

  992. it's

  993. awesome

  994. you might

  995. even say

  996. that it

  997. causes us

  998. to tremble

  999. because we

  1000. know that

  1001. there will

  1002. come a

  1003. day

  1004. when the

  1005. Lord

  1006. Jesus

  1007. will come

  1008. and he

  1009. will judge

  1010. this world

  1011. in righteousness

  1012. as he said

  1013. in another

  1014. place

  1015. what we've

  1016. whispered

  1017. in the

  1018. dark

  1019. corner

  1020. of our

  1021. room

  1022. will be

  1023. proclaimed

  1024. from the

  1025. rooftops

  1026. everything

  1027. will be

  1028. exposed

  1029. and made

  1030. known

  1031. our secret

  1032. thoughts

  1033. and desires

  1034. every action

  1035. every deed

  1036. we can't

  1037. hide anything

  1038. from him

  1039. and that's

  1040. something that

  1041. should cause

  1042. us to

  1043. tremble

  1044. but there's

  1045. another side

  1046. to this

  1047. that Jesus

  1048. knows

  1049. what is

  1050. going on

  1051. in our

  1052. hearts

  1053. is also

  1054. precious

  1055. it doesn't

  1056. matter

  1057. what you're

  1058. going through

  1059. doesn't matter

  1060. what difficulty

  1061. or trial

  1062. you face

  1063. what kind

  1064. of grief

  1065. you have

  1066. in your

  1067. heart

  1068. Jesus

  1069. knows

  1070. how you

  1071. feel

  1072. he

  1073. understands

  1074. he sees

  1075. that

  1076. and you're

  1077. not alone

  1078. in that

  1079. and that's

  1080. a precious

  1081. reality

  1082. for those

  1083. of us

  1084. who believe

  1085. we may

  1086. tremble

  1087. at the

  1088. thought

  1089. that Jesus

  1090. knows

  1091. our sin

  1092. but let's

  1093. not forget

  1094. that he

  1095. has come

  1096. to be

  1097. the lamb

  1098. of God

  1099. which takes

  1100. away

  1101. our sins

  1102. and it

  1103. is sweet

  1104. it is

  1105. precious

  1106. that he

  1107. is with

  1108. us

  1109. through

  1110. whatever

  1111. we go

  1112. through

  1113. he knows

  1114. it

  1115. he knows

  1116. how we

  1117. feel

  1118. we're

  1119. not

  1120. alone

  1121. it may

  1122. seem

  1123. at times

  1124. like other

  1125. people just

  1126. don't get

  1127. what I

  1128. feel

  1129. or what's

  1130. going on

  1131. in my

  1132. heart

  1133. but there

  1134. is one

  1135. who does

  1136. the Lord

  1137. Jesus

  1138. this is

  1139. this is

  1140. an awesome

  1141. and a

  1142. precious

  1143. reality

  1144. Jesus

  1145. does not

  1146. need

  1147. anybody

  1148. to tell

  1149. him about

  1150. you

  1151. or me

  1152. because he

  1153. knows you

  1154. and me

  1155. inside and

  1156. out

  1157. let's

  1158. pray

  1159. father in

  1160. heaven

  1161. we thank

  1162. you that

  1163. you have

  1164. given us

  1165. this word

  1166. and it

  1167. does strike

  1168. to the

  1169. heart

  1170. to our

  1171. hearts

  1172. thank you

  1173. that you

  1174. are a

  1175. glorious

  1176. God

  1177. and that

  1178. your son

  1179. Jesus

  1180. is glorious

  1181. as well

  1182. thank you

  1183. that you

  1184. are with

  1185. us

  1186. through

  1187. through

  1188. all things

  1189. that you

  1190. know us

  1191. Lord we

  1192. ask that

  1193. you would

  1194. just continue

  1195. to

  1196. to grow

  1197. our love

  1198. for you

  1199. to help

  1200. us see

  1201. how we

  1202. can continue

  1203. to live

  1204. in light

  1205. of these

  1206. things

  1207. that are

  1208. true of

  1209. you

  1210. and also

  1211. how we

  1212. can declare

  1213. your glory

  1214. and help

  1215. others to

  1216. see it

  1217. too

  1218. we love

  1219. you

  1220. we pray

  1221. this in

  1222. Jesus name

  1223. amen
