  1. Well, with all that's been going on in our world lately with COVID-19,

  2. there was a part of me that wondered whether we should continue in the series that we've been doing as a church

  3. through the Gospel of John, or if we should focus on some scriptures which speak directly to the present state of things

  4. going on in our world with this whole pandemic.

  5. As I've thought and prayed about that, there are many Christian brothers out there who are writing articles

  6. and blog posts and preaching sermons that pertain to COVID-19 directly,

  7. and I've tried to share some of those resources online and through email with some of you.

  8. I think one of the questions on all of our minds is, when will this all be over?

  9. How long will it be before things finally get back to normal?

  10. Some of us are probably feeling a little bit worn out with just thinking and hearing about this pandemic

  11. and are eager to hear something else from God's Word.

  12. And so as I prayed and thought about this, I think we're going to continue on through our series in the Gospel of John.

  13. When we started this series, what we saw very early on was that this is about Jesus.

  14. John said in the first chapter of this Gospel, we saw His glory.

  15. That's what we've set out to do in this series.

  16. It's to see more of the glory of Jesus.

  17. We want to know Him more.

  18. Not only that, but we believe that the good news about Jesus is what people around us need to hear

  19. in order to be saved, in order to have the life that God offers to people.

  20. And so we want to also be familiar with this story.

  21. We want to know it well.

  22. And so these are at least two good reasons we have to continue on through the story of Jesus as told by John.

  23. And so that's what we're going to do in the weeks ahead.

  24. We picked the story up this morning in John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  25. If you have a Bible, I encourage you to grab it.

  26. Pause the video if you need to.

  27. But get your Bible.

  28. Open it up to John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  29. And we're going to be reading starting in verse 22.

  30. Now what we're about to read comes what's happened up until now.

  31. Jesus has gone up to Jerusalem and He celebrated the Passover there with His disciples.

  32. There was that week of feasting or festival, the festival of unleavened bread.

  33. Jesus had that conversation with Nicodemus about being born again.

  34. And if you haven't heard any of that, the sermon audio for those messages is available on our church website.

  35. So this kind of comes after all that.

  36. Sometime after Jesus was up in Jerusalem, this is what we read in verse 22 of chapter 3.

  37. After this, Jesus and His disciples went out into the Judean countryside.

  38. Where Jesus spent some time with them and baptized.

  39. Now John also, this is John the Baptist, John also was baptizing at Anon near Salim.

  40. Because there was plenty of water.

  41. And people were coming and being baptized.

  42. This was before John was put in prison.

  43. An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.

  44. They, referring to John's disciples, came to John and said to him,

  45. Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, the one you testified about,

  46. look, he is baptizing and everyone is going to him.

  47. So John sets the scene for us here.

  48. After Jesus' time up in Jerusalem, he and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside.

  49. Where Jesus spent some time with them.

  50. And what were they doing out in the countryside?

  51. John tells us that Jesus was baptizing.

  52. He also tells us that John the baptizer at the same time was baptizing people in a different place.

  53. And so you have people going to Jesus to hear his teaching, to see these signs that he's doing.

  54. And you have people going to John the baptizer.

  55. And somewhere in the middle of all of this, verse 25, an argument develops.

  56. There's a dispute between some of John's disciples and a certain unnamed Jewish man.

  57. And interestingly enough, we're not really told what the argument was really about.

  58. I mean, John tells us it's over the matter of ceremonial washing, but we don't really know the details.

  59. What we do see, though, is that out of this argument, John's disciples, John the baptizer's disciples, end up coming to him.

  60. And they say this.

  61. They kind of give him a bit of a report on what's going on.

  62. Rabbi, verse 26, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, the one you testified about, look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.

  63. So this is an interesting moment in the story of Jesus.

  64. And I don't want to read into it too much.

  65. But at the very least, I think we see here that John the baptizer's disciples are deeply concerned.

  66. They're worried.

  67. There's the appearance here of some rivalry, of some competition between Jesus and John the baptizer.

  68. And I don't want to, again, read too much into it.

  69. But I think at the very least, we might say that there's some deep concern here.

  70. Some maybe even just mild form of rivalry.

  71. We notice, first of all, that this all sparked out of a dispute or an argument.

  72. Second, we notice that John's disciples, even the language that they choose seems to be kind of really showing what's going on in their thoughts.

  73. They say, look, or behold, that man is baptizing, referring to Jesus, and everyone is going to him.

  74. Not just some, everyone is going to him.

  75. You can almost hear a tone of lament, or at the very least, deep concern, if not more.

  76. Everyone is going to him.

  77. You can imagine for a moment that you were the owner of the A&W that's just south of town here in Davidson.

  78. Business is going well enough.

  79. You're selling lots of hamburgers and french fries.

  80. Life is good.

  81. You're the only fast food joint on the south side of town that's visible from the highway.

  82. And then suddenly, one day, out of nowhere, someone decides to start selling hamburgers right across the street.

  83. And Dairy Queen just pops out of nowhere.

  84. Now, I wasn't here before the Dairy Queen was built,

  85. but I imagine that the people over at A&W had some pretty slow days just after it first opened.

  86. Now there's competition for every potential customer that comes rolling through town.

  87. And suddenly, here at the A&W, you know, the service that we've been offering people just doesn't feel like it's as appreciated.

  88. Everyone is going over there now.

  89. I imagine that this captures at least something of what John's disciples are feeling.

  90. Look, John, he is baptizing now, and everyone is going to him.

  91. Well, how does John the baptizer respond to this?

  92. We read his response in verse 27.

  93. To this, John replied,

  94. A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.

  95. You yourselves can testify that I said,

  96. I am not the Messiah, but am sent ahead of him.

  97. So, what is John's response?

  98. As John hears this report about Jesus baptizing and everyone is going to him,

  99. the first thing that he says is this,

  100. A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.

  101. In other words,

  102. this is part of God's sovereign plan.

  103. It's heaven that has decided how things should go.

  104. God.

  105. And then,

  106. after this,

  107. he clarifies again.

  108. And I love the words that he uses.

  109. You yourselves testify to me

  110. that I said.

  111. He calls them as witnesses.

  112. You heard what I have clearly said.

  113. And we saw this back in John chapter 1,

    John 1 chapter mention

  114. when the Jewish religious leaders sent delegates

  115. to ask John the baptizer who he was.

  116. He made it crystal clear.

  117. I am not the Messiah.

  118. I am not the Messiah.

  119. He calls his disciples as witnesses again here

  120. and reminds them,

  121. I said,

  122. I am not the Messiah.

  123. I am not the Messiah.

  124. But,

  125. don't miss the but,

  126. but I am sent ahead of him.

  127. From here,

  128. John goes into this analogy of a wedding.

  129. Let's read it together in verse 29.

  130. I am not the Messiah,

  131. but,

  132. but I'm sent ahead of him.

  133. The bride belongs to the bridegroom.

  134. The friend who attends the bridegroom

  135. waits and listens for him

  136. and is full of joy

  137. when he hears the bridegroom's voice.

  138. That joy is mine

  139. and it is now complete.

  140. He must become greater.

  141. I must become less.

  142. So,

  143. to kind of give an explanation

  144. of what's going on in this situation,

  145. the way that John sees it,

  146. how he's reacting to all of this,

  147. he gives the analogy of a wedding

  148. and we don't know exactly

  149. or have the clearest picture

  150. of exactly how a wedding,

  151. what a wedding was like

  152. in the first century Jewish culture.

  153. So,

  154. I'm going to try to just translate it

  155. into our culture

  156. for us

  157. and,

  158. and maintain some of the,

  159. the elements that

  160. are here in his analogy.

  161. The bride belongs to the bridegroom

  162. is the first thing

  163. that John says.

  164. And he compares himself

  165. to the friend

  166. who attends

  167. the bridegroom.

  168. So,

  169. we might think of groomsmen

  170. or think of the best man.

  171. So,

  172. imagine

  173. here you are,

  174. you've,

  175. you've come for a wedding

  176. and

  177. you have an important question

  178. to ask,

  179. maybe where to put your gift

  180. or something like that.

  181. You've,

  182. you've showed up nice and early.

  183. The bride and the bridegroom

  184. are not even in the building yet

  185. that you know of.

  186. And,

  187. you can see the,

  188. the,

  189. the bridesmaids

  190. and

  191. the groomsmen,

  192. they're,

  193. they're kind of doing set up.

  194. They're kind of

  195. attending to those last

  196. minute details.

  197. And you can see

  198. one of them is kind of

  199. giving orders

  200. or instructions

  201. to

  202. some of the other guys

  203. and they're moving things around

  204. and carrying things here

  205. and there.

  206. So,

  207. who are you going to ask

  208. about where to put

  209. the gift that you have brought?

  210. Well,

  211. probably that guy.

  212. And,

  213. perhaps,

  214. he's,

  215. he's the best man.

  216. And,

  217. for the time being,

  218. he's

  219. kind of

  220. in charge.

  221. Um,

  222. helping make sure

  223. that everything gets

  224. in its place.

  225. He's been here for the rehearsal.

  226. He knows what's going on.

  227. He's the best friend

  228. of

  229. the groom.

  230. So,

  231. who better to ask

  232. than him?

  233. At the moment,

  234. um,

  235. he,

  236. he's kind of

  237. has

  238. the attention

  239. of people.

  240. They're,

  241. they're looking to him

  242. for guidance

  243. and for instruction.

  244. We get,

  245. we got to get all these last

  246. things taken care of

  247. before,

  248. uh,

  249. the wedding starts.

  250. We need these chairs

  251. set up over here.

  252. We need this table

  253. moved over there.

  254. Now,

  255. fast forward a little bit

  256. to just before,

  257. uh,

  258. just as the wedding

  259. is starting.

  260. Um,

  261. suddenly,

  262. and I don't know

  263. what your experience

  264. has been at weddings,

  265. but I know that

  266. at a number of weddings

  267. I have been to,

  268. um,

  269. the groomsmen

  270. have been kind of

  271. the first

  272. to come into the room

  273. or come onto the stage

  274. and,

  275. and sometimes

  276. even without the groom.

  277. Um,

  278. so they'll walk out

  279. from the side

  280. and

  281. in that moment,

  282. up until then,

  283. during the setup

  284. and,

  285. and up until that moment,

  286. um,

  287. your attention is on

  288. the groomsmen.

  289. Your attention's on

  290. the best man.

  291. You're looking at them

  292. and how sharply

  293. dressed they are.

  294. But then all of a sudden

  295. there's a massive shift

  296. as the groom

  297. comes

  298. walking

  299. out onto the stage

  300. and takes his place

  301. in the center

  302. beside his

  303. groomsmen.

  304. And in that moment,

  305. everybody's attention

  306. just shifts

  307. all at once

  308. from

  309. the groomsmen

  310. to the groom.

  311. It's,

  312. it's his wedding.

  313. It's his day.

  314. He's the one

  315. that we've come to see

  316. get married.

  317. And,

  318. and from that moment on,

  319. the groomsmen

  320. just kind of

  321. fade into the background

  322. a little bit.

  323. They kind of go into

  324. our peripheral vision.

  325. And if we look at them again,

  326. it's,

  327. it's just to see

  328. what's their reaction

  329. for a brief moment

  330. to what's happening

  331. here in the room.

  332. I've had the opportunity

  333. to,

  334. um,

  335. to serve

  336. as a groomsman

  337. on a couple

  338. different occasions.

  339. and,

  340. there's been a couple

  341. moments

  342. where I've been there

  343. up on the stage

  344. and I,

  345. I distinctly remember

  346. that

  347. I was,

  348. I was overcome.

  349. In fact,

  350. I,

  351. I was almost

  352. at the point

  353. of tears.

  354. Tears of joy.

  355. because,

  356. in that moment,

  357. one of my best friends

  358. was about to get married

  359. to a wonderful

  360. young lady.

  361. And I still remember

  362. some of those moments.

  363. Here I am,

  364. standing in my place,

  365. and the bride

  366. appears

  367. at the back

  368. of the aisle.

  369. And eye contact

  370. is made

  371. between her

  372. and between

  373. one of my best friends.

  374. And I just,

  375. I'm just drinking

  376. in that moment.

  377. What is this like

  378. for my best friend here?

  379. I look over at him

  380. and I can just,

  381. I can see,

  382. I can feel

  383. the emotion

  384. just welling up

  385. inside of him.

  386. The joy,

  387. the,

  388. the,

  389. the awe

  390. at just how beautiful

  391. she is in that moment.

  392. Dressed in white.

  393. Precious moments.

  394. Moments that

  395. I was overwhelmed

  396. with joy in.

  397. Because

  398. my best friend

  399. is getting married

  400. to a wonderful

  401. young lady.

  402. And so,

  403. I think that's

  404. the kind of

  405. thing that John

  406. is trying to get us

  407. to,

  408. to,

  409. to see,

  410. to feel with him

  411. as he helps us

  412. understand what's

  413. going on here

  414. between Jesus and him.

  415. It's,

  416. it's like a wedding.

  417. And Jesus

  418. is the bridegroom.

  419. And the people,

  420. they're,

  421. they're the bride.

  422. He's the one

  423. who should have

  424. their attention.

  425. John,

  426. he's,

  427. he's just like

  428. the groomsman,

  429. the,

  430. the best man,

  431. the friend

  432. who attends

  433. the groom.

  434. He's been working

  435. to get things

  436. ready,

  437. to,

  438. to,

  439. to make

  440. preparations,

  441. but now this

  442. moment has come

  443. and it's good.

  444. It's right.

  445. I am happy

  446. that I am

  447. fading into

  448. the background

  449. and that the

  450. attention is now

  451. on him.

  452. He's the one.

  453. It's,

  454. it's his day.

  455. This is what

  456. I've been working

  457. towards.

  458. John's disciples

  459. give this report

  460. of what's

  461. going on

  462. and it comes

  463. across as

  464. negative.

  465. It comes

  466. across as,

  467. there's some,

  468. we've got some

  469. competition here.

  470. We've got some

  471. rivalry.

  472. And in stark

  473. contrast to that,

  474. John's reaction

  475. is the opposite.

  476. It's,

  477. yes,

  478. I am so happy.

  479. My joy

  480. is now

  481. complete

  482. because everyone

  483. is going

  484. to him.

  485. that's what

  486. I've wanted

  487. to see.

  488. That's my role.

  489. That's what's

  490. been given

  491. to me

  492. from heaven,

  493. from God.

  494. My job

  495. has been

  496. to point

  497. the spotlight,

  498. to make

  499. preparation

  500. and now

  501. the moment

  502. is here.

  503. So look

  504. at him.

  505. Everyone

  506. is going

  507. to him

  508. and I

  509. couldn't be

  510. more

  511. happy.

  512. He

  513. must become

  514. greater.

  515. I must

  516. become less.

  517. The spotlight

  518. needs to get

  519. bigger on him

  520. and it needs

  521. to get

  522. smaller on me.

  523. He needs

  524. to have,

  525. he must have

  526. more of

  527. people's attention

  528. and I must

  529. have less.

  530. This is good.

  531. This is right.

  532. This is how

  533. it's supposed

  534. to go.

  535. So what

  536. are we

  537. to take

  538. from this

  539. interaction?

  540. Well,

  541. I think

  542. that one

  543. of the

  544. natural

  545. places

  546. for us

  547. to go

  548. is to

  549. think of

  550. this

  551. as

  552. John

  553. is giving

  554. us an

  555. example

  556. of

  557. humility

  558. and I

  559. think this

  560. is here.

  561. We

  562. naturally

  563. understand

  564. the feeling

  565. of rivalry.

  566. we

  567. understand

  568. that feeling

  569. of seeing

  570. someone else

  571. succeeding

  572. or of

  573. someone else

  574. getting the

  575. attention

  576. when we

  577. had it

  578. before.

  579. I think

  580. we do get

  581. a bit of a

  582. snapshot of

  583. the mentality

  584. of our

  585. world or

  586. of the

  587. just that

  588. desire that

  589. we have

  590. in our

  591. sinful human

  592. nature.

  593. we love

  594. the attention

  595. of others.

  596. We love

  597. the praise

  598. of other

  599. people.

  600. We want

  601. others to

  602. think much

  603. of us.

  604. And John

  605. the baptizer

  606. stands in

  607. stark contrast

  608. to that.

  609. Here he is

  610. and he is

  611. just,

  612. he is a

  613. wonderful

  614. example of

  615. godly

  616. humility.

  617. He knows

  618. his place

  619. in all of

  620. this.

  621. He knows

  622. his place

  623. before Jesus.

  624. He knows

  625. his place

  626. before God.

  627. He knows

  628. his place

  629. as it

  630. pertains

  631. to other

  632. people.

  633. A person

  634. or a man

  635. can only

  636. receive what

  637. is given

  638. them from

  639. heaven.

  640. I am

  641. not the

  642. Messiah,

  643. but I am

  644. sent ahead

  645. of him.

  646. I'm just

  647. a voice.

  648. I've come

  649. to prepare

  650. the way.

  651. I'm just

  652. the friend

  653. who attends

  654. to the

  655. groom.

  656. But the

  657. bride belongs

  658. to the

  659. groom.

  660. The attention

  661. is rightfully

  662. his.

  663. There's

  664. quite a

  665. contrast

  666. here.

  667. It's all

  668. too easy

  669. to seek

  670. our praise

  671. from people,

  672. but it's

  673. God's

  674. commendation

  675. that we

  676. should be

  677. seeking.

  678. So I

  679. think

  680. John the

  681. baptizer is

  682. a great

  683. example of

  684. humility

  685. in contrast

  686. to the

  687. desire of

  688. our flesh

  689. to be

  690. exalted

  691. in the

  692. eyes of

  693. others.

  694. And one

  695. of the

  696. places

  697. that it's

  698. easiest to

  699. see this

  700. right now

  701. perhaps,

  702. I mean,

  703. we're in

  704. social distancing

  705. mode,

  706. is in our

  707. relationships

  708. with our

  709. family members.

  710. We've been

  711. spending a lot

  712. more time

  713. with them

  714. because of

  715. COVID-19.

  716. some of

  717. you parents

  718. are with

  719. your kids

  720. a lot

  721. more than

  722. you were

  723. before now

  724. that sports

  725. have been

  726. cancelled,

  727. now that

  728. classes have

  729. been suspended.

  730. As you

  731. consider your

  732. relationships

  733. with the

  734. people in

  735. your house,

  736. does it

  737. bother you

  738. when those

  739. you live

  740. with don't

  741. notice the

  742. ways that

  743. you serve

  744. them around

  745. the house?

  746. Do you

  747. feel the

  748. need to

  749. inform them

  750. of all that

  751. you did

  752. today for

  753. them so

  754. that you

  755. can get

  756. your thanks

  757. and praise?

  758. Or,

  759. on the

  760. flip side,

  761. do you

  762. see some

  763. of the

  764. work of

  765. your home

  766. and your

  767. family as

  768. beneath you?

  769. Oh,

  770. that job

  771. is,

  772. you know,

  773. are you

  774. happy to

  775. leave that

  776. undesired

  777. work to

  778. your spouse?

  779. Kids,

  780. do you

  781. think it's

  782. mom and

  783. dad's

  784. job to

  785. clean up

  786. all the

  787. mess that

  788. you have

  789. made so

  790. far today?

  791. Because you've

  792. got more

  793. important things

  794. to do.

  795. John is a

  796. wonderful example

  797. here of a

  798. humble attitude,

  799. of a desire

  800. to serve,

  801. and of how we

  802. can have joy

  803. in serving one

  804. another.

  805. And so I want

  806. to encourage you

  807. this week,

  808. how can you

  809. joyfully serve

  810. your wife,

  811. your husband,

  812. your kids,

  813. those you live

  814. with in the

  815. week ahead?

  816. God.

  817. While we do

  818. get this

  819. wonderful example

  820. from John,

  821. it's not

  822. the main

  823. point that I

  824. think we're

  825. to take from

  826. all of this.

  827. It's a

  828. meaningful thing,

  829. it's a

  830. wonderful example,

  831. but I think

  832. more than

  833. anything,

  834. what we need

  835. to take from

  836. this is what

  837. John,

  838. the baptizer,

  839. wants us to

  840. take from

  841. his words.

  842. What is he

  843. saying here?

  844. If we

  845. listen in

  846. again to

  847. these words,

  848. I hope that

  849. we hear it

  850. and that we

  851. don't miss

  852. it.

  853. In verse

  854. 28,

  855. you yourselves

  856. can testify

  857. that I

  858. said,

  859. I am

  860. not the

  861. Messiah,

  862. but am

  863. sent ahead

  864. of him.

  865. Him

  866. referring to

  867. the one

  868. who was

  869. with you,

  870. who you

  871. testified about

  872. before.

  873. Do you

  874. hear what

  875. John is

  876. saying?

  877. I am

  878. not the

  879. Messiah,

  880. I'm sent

  881. ahead of

  882. him.

  883. John is

  884. happy to

  885. see people

  886. not coming

  887. to him

  888. and instead

  889. going to

  890. Jesus,

  891. because Jesus

  892. is the

  893. Messiah.

  894. He's

  895. here,

  896. he has

  897. come.

  898. God's

  899. chosen

  900. king,

  901. the one

  902. foretold

  903. by the

  904. prophets

  905. long ago,

  906. he's

  907. here.

  908. I'm

  909. not him.

  910. I'm

  911. happy that

  912. they're

  913. going to

  914. him,

  915. because he

  916. has come.

  917. I should

  918. have less

  919. and less

  920. of people's

  921. attention,

  922. and he

  923. should have

  924. more and

  925. more.

  926. He is

  927. the Christ,

  928. the one that

  929. we've all

  930. been waiting

  931. for.

  932. God's

  933. God's

  934. disciples are

  935. really

  936. listening to

  937. him,

  938. then there's

  939. only one

  940. thing for

  941. them to

  942. do,

  943. and it

  944. may not

  945. happen

  946. right away,

  947. but sometime

  948. soon they

  949. need to be

  950. packing their

  951. bags and

  952. leaving John,

  953. the baptizer,

  954. and going to

  955. follow the one

  956. who is greater,

  957. the Messiah,

  958. Jesus.

  959. The bride

  960. belongs to

  961. the bridegroom.

  962. All of our

  963. attention,

  964. all of our

  965. loyalty belongs

  966. to him,

  967. because he

  968. is the

  969. Christ,

  970. he is the

  971. Messiah.

  972. And so,

  973. I want to

  974. ask you,

  975. as you

  976. listen to

  977. this,

  978. does Jesus

  979. have your

  980. attention?

  981. Does Jesus

  982. have your

  983. loyalty?

  984. if he

  985. doesn't,

  986. then what

  987. or who

  988. does?

  989. Even in

  990. the midst

  991. of this

  992. pandemic,

  993. let me

  994. encourage you

  995. not to

  996. give it

  997. more

  998. attention

  999. than it

  1000. deserves.

  1001. I'm not

  1002. saying that

  1003. we should

  1004. be ignorant,

  1005. that we

  1006. shouldn't

  1007. read the

  1008. news,

  1009. that we

  1010. should,

  1011. there's

  1012. nothing wrong

  1013. with being

  1014. informed,

  1015. but one

  1016. greater than

  1017. all of

  1018. this has

  1019. come,

  1020. and he

  1021. is worthy

  1022. of our

  1023. attention

  1024. over and

  1025. above and

  1026. through all

  1027. of this.

  1028. Perhaps it's

  1029. not COVID-19

  1030. so much for

  1031. you,

  1032. maybe it's

  1033. just your

  1034. smartphone,

  1035. or your

  1036. television,

  1037. or Netflix.

  1038. Let me

  1039. encourage you

  1040. not to give

  1041. those things

  1042. more attention

  1043. than they

  1044. deserve either.

  1045. And I'm

  1046. speaking to

  1047. myself here

  1048. as well,

  1049. because I

  1050. know how

  1051. easy it

  1052. is to

  1053. just get

  1054. swallowed

  1055. up in

  1056. the glow

  1057. of the

  1058. screen,

  1059. in the

  1060. palm of

  1061. your hand,

  1062. or on

  1063. the wall,

  1064. or on

  1065. your television

  1066. cart in

  1067. my case.

  1068. And there's

  1069. that desire

  1070. to just go

  1071. back to it

  1072. again and

  1073. again and

  1074. again,

  1075. to pull

  1076. that phone

  1077. out.

  1078. But do

  1079. you know

  1080. that one

  1081. greater than

  1082. Google is

  1083. here?

  1084. my oldest

  1085. daughter,

  1086. five years

  1087. old,

  1088. and she's

  1089. already telling

  1090. me that if

  1091. I don't know

  1092. something,

  1093. I should just

  1094. ask Siri.

  1095. I should just

  1096. search it up

  1097. online.

  1098. And so I

  1099. don't think I

  1100. communicated it

  1101. the best way

  1102. to her,

  1103. but I

  1104. tried to

  1105. remind her

  1106. this week

  1107. that Google

  1108. is not

  1109. God.

  1110. YouTube

  1111. is not

  1112. the definitive

  1113. source for

  1114. wisdom on

  1115. the planet.

  1116. The

  1117. World Wide

  1118. Web is a

  1119. vast treasure

  1120. trove of

  1121. information,

  1122. but at

  1123. best,

  1124. it's a

  1125. collection of

  1126. human wisdom,

  1127. and at

  1128. worst,

  1129. it's a

  1130. pooling of

  1131. human

  1132. ignorance.

  1133. No,

  1134. we have

  1135. something

  1136. better,

  1137. one greater

  1138. than Google,

  1139. has come,

  1140. and his

  1141. knowledge and

  1142. his understanding

  1143. are truly

  1144. out of this

  1145. world.

  1146. They are

  1147. from heaven,

  1148. because he

  1149. is from

  1150. heaven.

  1151. And so we

  1152. should listen

  1153. very carefully

  1154. to his

  1155. words.

  1156. He is

  1157. worthy of

  1158. our attention.

  1159. And so my

  1160. question this

  1161. week is,

  1162. does he

  1163. have yours?

  1164. It doesn't

  1165. matter what's

  1166. going on.

  1167. The things

  1168. that are going

  1169. on are

  1170. important.

  1171. They're

  1172. significant.

  1173. But whatever

  1174. is going on,

  1175. Jesus is

  1176. still worthy

  1177. of our

  1178. attention and

  1179. of our

  1180. loyalty.

  1181. Does he

  1182. have your

  1183. attention?

  1184. Does he

  1185. have your

  1186. loyalty?

  1187. Does he

  1188. have your

  1189. love?

  1190. love?

  1191. Let's

  1192. pray.

  1193. Father in

  1194. heaven, thank

  1195. you for

  1196. these words.

  1197. Would you

  1198. seal them in

  1199. our hearts?

  1200. And would you

  1201. remind us again

  1202. of just how

  1203. wonderful a

  1204. gift your

  1205. son is that

  1206. you have sent

  1207. him into our

  1208. world?

  1209. Draw each

  1210. one listening.

  1211. Draw me

  1212. into your

  1213. presence again

  1214. and remind

  1215. us of the

  1216. truth.

  1217. Help us to

  1218. see the

  1219. glory of

  1220. Jesus.

  1221. We ask

  1222. this in

  1223. Christ's

  1224. name.

  1225. Amen.

  1226. Amen.
