  1. Well, if you have your Bible with you, would you please open it up to John chapter 7.

    John 7 chapter mention

  2. We're continuing on in the story of Jesus as told by the Apostle John.

  3. And here in John chapter 7, Jesus is in Jerusalem.

    John 7 chapter mention

  4. And at this moment, there's a big festival going on there, the festival of tabernacles

  5. or booths.

  6. Thousands have gathered from all over the nation.

  7. And Jesus kind of snuck into the city halfway through the festival.

  8. And we saw a couple weeks back when we were looking at this, how he went into the temple

  9. courts and began to teach the people.

  10. And initially, the response seemed pretty good.

  11. They were amazed.

  12. Where did he get this teaching from?

  13. He knew his stuff.

  14. How is it that he could know all this?

  15. Without having been educated.

  16. Well, it wasn't from YouTube and it wasn't from Skillshare.

  17. It wasn't from a mentoring relationship with some unknown rabbi.

  18. Jesus essentially said, you're right.

  19. My teaching is not my own.

  20. It comes from the one who sent me.

  21. It comes from God.

  22. And if you will humble your hearts and seek to do what God wants you to do, you will know

  23. the truth about where my teaching comes from.

  24. Let's pick up the conversation in verse 18.

  25. There we read what Jesus says next.

  26. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory.

  27. But he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth.

  28. There is nothing false about him.

  29. And again, let's have a little more word-for-word translation here.

  30. I think that will help us.

  31. We'll go with the New American Standard.

  32. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory.

  33. But he who is seeking the glory of the one who sent him, he is true.

  34. And there is no unrighteousness in him.

  35. What is Jesus saying here?

  36. And why is he saying this to the crowd?

  37. Well, let's remember just what the people in the crowd are thinking as Jesus speaks.

  38. We read a little bit earlier in verse 12 that there's been widespread whispering about Jesus

  39. among the crowds.

  40. Some of them are saying, he's a good man.

  41. Others are saying, no, he deceives the people.

  42. Some are more open to Jesus, while others seem to have already made up their minds that

  43. he's a fraud.

  44. He's a con artist.

  45. He's a deceiver.

  46. And as with other times, Jesus, again, seems to know what's going on in their minds and

  47. in their thoughts.

  48. He knows that even as he speaks to them, there are some in the crowd who are saying, yeah,

  49. right.

  50. Your teaching comes from God?

  51. I don't believe this.

  52. And so Jesus seems to say these words in verse 18 in his own defense.

  53. It's as though he's saying, listen, guys, in all the teaching that I've been doing here,

  54. have I been doing and saying things to get glory from you for myself?

  55. No.

  56. Has the main tone, the main message that I've been bringing in my teaching been, everybody

  57. look at me.

  58. Look how awesome I am.

  59. Bow down before me.

  60. Give me glory.

  61. Give me praise.

  62. No.

  63. No.

  64. Everything I've been saying has been for the glory of the one who sent me.

  65. So that you might turn your hearts to him and worship him and praise him and obey him and

  66. do his will.

  67. You can just imagine what kinds of things Jesus has been teaching them so far by thinking

  68. back over the many things that Jesus taught all the time.

  69. Think back to the Sermon on the Mount and the kinds of things that he said there.

  70. Think back to the many parables.

  71. All of these things had this overall intention of turning people's hearts back to the Lord.

  72. He taught people to turn from their sins, to stop doing what is evil and instead to do

  73. what is right and what is good from the heart.

  74. He taught people to pray to God, to ask God for things, to seek things from him, to seek

  75. his kingdom.

  76. If you look through the Gospels, it's an interesting thing to notice.

  77. You'll find that Jesus never once tells people to bow down in front of him and worship him

  78. or to give him glory like that.

  79. Why is that?

  80. The Muslims and the Jehovah's Witnesses are quick to jump on this.

  81. They're quick to say, look, Jesus always told people to worship God.

  82. Why?

  83. They would say because he was not God.

  84. Well, they are right about one thing and that's that Jesus did not command or tell people to

  85. worship himself.

  86. In fact, I would go even further than that and say that he did not speak or act at all

  87. for the purpose of gaining glory or winning praise for himself.

  88. But it's not because he wasn't God.

  89. We've already seen countless statements in the Gospel of John that amount to Jesus saying,

  90. I am the divine Son of God.

  91. But as a man, he lives as a man should.

  92. And so he calls people to worship God, his Father.

  93. Why is that?

  94. In some mysterious way, this is how the relationship between Jesus, the Son, the God-man, and his

  95. Father, God, works.

  96. Let's look at a few other passages to see this.

  97. And all of these are from John's Gospel as well.

  98. One of them we've already seen.

  99. John 5, verse 41.

    John 5:41

  100. Jesus said to the religious leaders, I do not accept glory from human beings.

  101. Hmm.

  102. Why is that?

  103. Again, in John 8, verse 50, we haven't got there yet, but Jesus says, I am not seeking

    John 8:50

  104. glory for myself.

  105. Why not?

  106. A few verses later, in John 8, verse 54, Jesus says this.

    John 8:54

  107. He says, if I glorify myself, my glory means nothing.

  108. My Father, whom you claim is your God, He is the one who glorifies me.

  109. There it is.

  110. God the Father is the one who glorifies his Son.

  111. So Jesus is the divine Son, as we've seen all over the place in John's Gospel.

  112. Yet He has not been calling people to bow down and worship Him.

  113. Instead, He's been telling people to glorify and worship His Father, the one who sent Him.

  114. The only glory that Jesus seeks for Himself is the glory that comes from the Father.

  115. In fact, we'll get to it eventually, but in His prayer in John chapter 17, Jesus actually

    John 17 chapter mention

  116. prays and asks God to give Him glory.

  117. He says this in John 17, 5.

  118. And now, Father, glorify me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world

  119. began.

  120. This is a difficult relationship to understand.

  121. I find it difficult.

  122. Even though Jesus is God, living among us in human flesh, He does not have the mindset

  123. that we would expect Him to have.

  124. Paul describes it for us in his letter to the Philippians, a passage that many of you

  125. are familiar with.

  126. His mindset was not to cling to what was rightfully His, glory, the worship, the praise of all people.

  127. No, His mindset is to humble Himself, to get down to our level, to become a man, one of us.

  128. And Paul tells us it's even more than that, to go even further down than that, to become a servant.

  129. Jesus is on a rescue mission that requires Him to lay aside, to give up, to veil, to cover up and conceal

  130. some of His glory.

  131. And to live for a time in a humbled and lowly state.

  132. And for a time to endure humiliating and even shameful treatment.

  133. And it's not until after this rescue mission is complete that Jesus will begin to receive

  134. the glory that He is due.

  135. Paul goes on in Philippians 2.

  136. He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross.

  137. Therefore, because He did that, God, the Father, exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him

  138. the name that is above every name.

  139. That at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth

  140. and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.

  141. So it's God, the Father, who exalts His Son.

  142. It's God, the Father, who glorifies His Son, who lifts Him up to that place where all will

  143. bow down and worship Him.

  144. So yes, we are to worship Jesus.

  145. Even though Jesus does not seek glory for Himself from us,

  146. as He walks the earth, He is still glorious.

  147. He is still worthy of worship.

  148. And God, the Father, wants us to worship His Son.

  149. That's the trajectory of this whole story.

  150. And we've seen this already, too, in what Jesus said

  151. the last time He met with the religious leaders in Jerusalem.

  152. John chapter 5, verse 22.

    John 5:22

  153. Jesus said there,

  154. The Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son.

  155. Why?

  156. Why has He given it to the Son to do all judgment?

  157. So that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father.

  158. The Father wants us to worship His Son.

  159. And that's why He's given it to Him to do all of the judgment at the last day.

  160. Back to John chapter 7, verse 18.

    John 7:18

  161. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory.

  162. But he who is seeking the glory of the one who sent him, he is true.

  163. And there is no unrighteousness in him.

  164. Jesus is saying here,

  165. One of the evidences that I speak from God,

  166. and that I speak the truth,

  167. is that I'm doing and saying nothing for personal benefit here.

  168. All the things that I've been doing,

  169. all the things that I've been teaching,

  170. have not been to get glory for myself.

  171. In everything I've been doing and saying,

  172. I am seeking for you to glorify Him who sent me,

  173. the Father.

  174. And that's how you can know that I am no deceiver.

  175. Now I had planned to go on another few verses here.

  176. And the conversation is about to heat up.

  177. Jesus is about to publicly declare that the leaders are trying to kill Him.

  178. And some in the crowd are about to yell back that Jesus is demon-possessed.

  179. But we'll save that for next week,

  180. because there's a lot, even in this one verse,

  181. that can apply to our lives today.

  182. And we want to take time to think about that.

  183. So what do we take from Jesus' comments

  184. about not seeking glory for Himself?

  185. What can we take from this for our own daily lives?

  186. I think the important thing at the start here

  187. is just to acknowledge that this is the story of Jesus.

  188. It's not mainly about us.

  189. This is the good news of Jesus,

  190. the way that it unfolded in real time in history,

  191. generations ago.

  192. But there is still something here that relates to us,

  193. if we're looking and listening closely.

  194. Let's think again about that mindset that Jesus had.

  195. That mindset not to seek glory or praise or honor from other people,

  196. and instead to humble Himself,

  197. and to obey God as every man should,

  198. and seek for His Father, God,

  199. to be glorified as every man should.

  200. Paul tells us back in Philippians 2, verse 5.

    Philippians 2:5

  201. He says,

  202. Have this mind in you,

  203. which was also in Christ Jesus.

  204. Or as some translations say,

  205. Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus,

  206. who humbled Himself.

  207. In other words,

  208. we should have the same attitude

  209. about getting glory for ourselves

  210. from other people

  211. as Jesus did.

  212. This is one of those things that we do that isn't good.

  213. In fact, it's ugly.

  214. It's evil.

  215. It's twisted.

  216. We do or say things in order to get glory for ourselves,

  217. to get the praise of other people,

  218. to get their applause,

  219. their approval,

  220. their attention.

  221. We do or say things to get them to like us,

  222. to think of us highly.

  223. Sometimes we might call this people-pleasing.

  224. An example of people-pleasing,

  225. you know, you're over-committed in your life,

  226. you have lots of responsibilities,

  227. and then someone comes along and says,

  228. Hey, I really need you to do this for me.

  229. Please, can you help me out with this?

  230. And because you don't want them to think any less of you,

  231. you want them to be happy with you,

  232. even though you shouldn't say yes,

  233. you say yes anyway.

  234. You don't want them to be offended.

  235. Other times we could call this the fear of man.

  236. Those moments or those situations

  237. where the right thing to do is to step up,

  238. to take responsibility,

  239. to speak up for what's right,

  240. for what's true.

  241. And instead, in that moment,

  242. we're looking around the room

  243. and we're more worried about what other people think,

  244. and so we don't say anything.

  245. Or we don't do what we know we should do.

  246. The fear of man.

  247. What are some other ways that we do this?

  248. Perhaps it's with social media accounts.

  249. Online, we're all too aware

  250. that maybe hundreds of people

  251. see everything that we post

  252. or see every like that we do

  253. on someone else's post.

  254. What can I post on my social media

  255. that can get me some likes

  256. or some good comments?

  257. We could put this into the sports realm.

  258. There we might call it showboating

  259. or showing off.

  260. Leaving the team behind

  261. and going for it all by yourself

  262. with all your best moves

  263. to get the goal.

  264. Because we know that the one who gets the goal

  265. gets most of the glory, right?

  266. And all too often,

  267. the players that worked hard

  268. to set that person up

  269. get overlooked.

  270. Sometimes it's with our words

  271. in conversation.

  272. Jokes.

  273. This is so common

  274. in our world today.

  275. I hear about this in the school

  276. all the time.

  277. People throwing other people

  278. under the bus,

  279. making jokes about them,

  280. saying hurtful things

  281. towards them

  282. or about them

  283. to make them look bad

  284. just to get the laughter

  285. and attention

  286. of some of their other friends.

  287. We may even

  288. do this ourselves

  289. a little bit.

  290. Where we

  291. talk about our,

  292. the way we talk about ourselves,

  293. we maybe

  294. put ourselves down

  295. when we talk to other people

  296. and secretly

  297. we're fishing

  298. for some compliment,

  299. for some affirmation,

  300. for some praise.

  301. Hey honey,

  302. guess what?

  303. While you were out,

  304. I did the dishes.

  305. Ain't I great?

  306. Whatever you call it,

  307. however it comes out,

  308. it all stems back to pride,

  309. to this desire

  310. to be exalted

  311. or loved

  312. or thought highly of

  313. in the eyes of others.

  314. And so we say

  315. or do

  316. or we don't say

  317. or we don't do

  318. whatever will put us

  319. in that place

  320. in people's thoughts

  321. that we want to be.

  322. but Jesus

  323. shows us

  324. a completely

  325. different way,

  326. a completely

  327. different mindset.

  328. He shows us

  329. how a real

  330. righteous man

  331. should live

  332. and think.

  333. We are not

  334. to seek

  335. our own glory

  336. from others.

  337. So how do we do this?

  338. How do we stop

  339. ourselves

  340. from being

  341. people pleasers?

  342. from seeking

  343. glory and praise

  344. from others?

  345. What's the solution here?

  346. Inevitably,

  347. whenever this whole

  348. discussion of

  349. people pleasing

  350. comes up,

  351. there's often

  352. one person

  353. who is almost

  354. ready to just

  355. stick up their hand

  356. and say,

  357. I'm not a people pleaser.

  358. I don't care

  359. what anybody thinks

  360. about what I say

  361. or do

  362. and I'm not afraid

  363. to let you know it.

  364. Is that the solution?

  365. Instead of

  366. seeking glory

  367. and praise

  368. from others

  369. to just have

  370. a mindset,

  371. well,

  372. who cares

  373. what everyone

  374. else thinks?

  375. I don't think

  376. that's the right

  377. attitude either.

  378. A lot of times

  379. people with this

  380. attitude

  381. can be rude

  382. or obnoxious.

  383. They can be

  384. insensitive,

  385. needlessly

  386. offending people

  387. with their words

  388. and their actions.

  389. it's almost

  390. like a pride

  391. in the opposite

  392. direction.

  393. Almost like

  394. you're setting

  395. yourself up

  396. on a pedestal

  397. above others.

  398. I don't care

  399. what you guys

  400. think about me.

  401. What you think

  402. isn't important.

  403. Looking down

  404. on them,

  405. that's not right

  406. either.

  407. And I don't

  408. think it's,

  409. the way to do

  410. this is to

  411. analyze every

  412. one of our

  413. thoughts,

  414. every one of

  415. our behaviors

  416. and check

  417. before we do

  418. it or say

  419. it,

  420. am I doing

  421. this for me?

  422. Am I doing

  423. this for God?

  424. I think

  425. instead,

  426. we need to

  427. follow the

  428. example of

  429. Christ

  430. and we need

  431. to focus

  432. not on

  433. ourselves

  434. but on

  435. the one

  436. that we

  437. want to

  438. see

  439. praised

  440. and glorified.

  441. How does

  442. Jesus do

  443. it?

  444. Let's see

  445. two ways

  446. that Jesus

  447. shows us

  448. that we

  449. should not

  450. seek our

  451. own glory

  452. glory,

  453. but instead

  454. seek the

  455. glory of

  456. God.

  457. The first,

  458. he tells us

  459. that we

  460. should seek

  461. glory from

  462. God.

  463. And the

  464. second,

  465. that we

  466. should seek

  467. glory for

  468. God.

  469. Two different

  470. ways.

  471. We're going to

  472. look at both

  473. of them.

  474. We'll start

  475. with the

  476. first one.

  477. What does

  478. it mean for

  479. us to seek

  480. glory from

  481. God?

  482. That's the

  483. mindset Jesus

  484. had.

  485. He's not

  486. looking for

  487. glory for

  488. himself.

  489. Instead,

  490. he is

  491. looking for

  492. the glory

  493. that comes

  494. from God,

  495. for God

  496. to glorify

  497. him.

  498. What does

  499. that mean?

  500. What does

  501. that look

  502. like?

  503. John

    John 5:44

  504. chapter 5,

  505. verse 44.

  506. This was

  507. last time

  508. with the

  509. Pharisees.

  510. Do you

  511. remember what

  512. Jesus said

  513. to them?

  514. He said,

  515. how can

  516. you believe

  517. when you

  518. receive glory

  519. from one

  520. another,

  521. and you

  522. do not

  523. seek the

  524. glory that

  525. is from

  526. the one

  527. and only

  528. God?

  529. One of

  530. the problems

  531. with the

  532. religious leaders

  533. is that they

  534. are living

  535. for the

  536. praise and

  537. honor and

  538. glory of

  539. one another.

  540. And you

  541. probably know

  542. those passages

  543. where Jesus

  544. calls them out

  545. on that in

  546. some very

  547. specific ways.

  548. The way

  549. that you

  550. pray,

  551. the way

  552. that you

  553. fast,

  554. the way

  555. that you

  556. give of

  557. your money,

  558. your offerings,

  559. all of

  560. that you

  561. do in

  562. public to

  563. get the

  564. attention of

  565. other people,

  566. to win

  567. praise,

  568. to win

  569. glory for

  570. yourself.

  571. And it's

  572. wrong.

  573. Jesus says

  574. that instead

  575. they should

  576. be seeking

  577. the glory

  578. that comes

  579. from God.

  580. I don't

  581. think Jesus

  582. is talking

  583. about seeking

  584. glory from

  585. God in

  586. some kind

  587. of twisted

  588. way,

  589. as in

  590. looking for

  591. God to

  592. worship.

  593. us.

  594. No.

  595. I think

  596. Jesus means

  597. that we

  598. are to

  599. humble

  600. ourselves

  601. before

  602. God,

  603. to serve

  604. him,

  605. to obey

  606. him,

  607. and to

  608. seek the

  609. reward and

  610. blessing that

  611. he has

  612. promised for

  613. doing so.

  614. To seek

  615. his approval,

  616. his

  617. affirmation,

  618. his

  619. commendation.

  620. You probably

  621. all know the

  622. parable of the

  623. talents,

  624. where the

  625. servants were

  626. each entrusted

  627. with a

  628. sum of

  629. money.

  630. What do

  631. those faithful

  632. servants hear

  633. from their

  634. master when

  635. the master

  636. returns?

  637. Well done,

  638. good and

  639. faithful servant.

  640. He commends

  641. them.

  642. He praises

  643. them.

  644. He honors

  645. them.

  646. He lifts

  647. them up in the

  648. sight of others

  649. to new heights

  650. of responsibility.

  651. humility.

  652. I think that's

  653. a picture of

  654. what Jesus is

  655. talking about

  656. here.

  657. What it means

  658. to seek the

  659. glory that is

  660. from God.

  661. Are you

  662. living for

  663. the well done

  664. of other

  665. people?

  666. Or are you

  667. living for the

  668. well done of

  669. God?

  670. One of the

  671. things that we

  672. hear time and

  673. time again

  674. throughout the

  675. scriptures is

  676. that God is a

  677. God who

  678. humbles the

  679. proud and

  680. exalts the

  681. humble.

  682. He's a God

  683. who turns the

  684. spotlight off of

  685. the proud and

  686. takes the ground

  687. out from under

  688. them, the thing

  689. that they're

  690. standing on and

  691. boasting in,

  692. and instead turns

  693. the spotlight onto

  694. the humble and

  695. highlights them for

  696. others to see.

  697. The apostle Peter

  698. picks up on this

  699. in his letter.

  700. He says,

  701. all of you,

  702. clothe yourselves

  703. with humility

  704. toward one

  705. another because

  706. God opposes the

  707. proud but gives

  708. favor or grace

  709. to the humble.

  710. Humble yourselves,

  711. says Peter.

  712. Humble yourselves,

  713. therefore, under

  714. God's mighty

  715. hand that he

  716. may lift you up

  717. in due time.

  718. This is what it

  719. means to seek

  720. glory from God

  721. and not from

  722. other people.

  723. It means to

  724. humble yourself

  725. before God,

  726. to bow the

  727. knee to him,

  728. to submit to

  729. him, to obey

  730. him, to consider

  731. yourself as you

  732. should before him

  733. and allow God at

  734. the appropriate

  735. time to lift you

  736. up and honor you

  737. and give you the

  738. reward that you

  739. are due.

  740. This was Jesus'

  741. mindset.

  742. He didn't seek

  743. glory for himself

  744. from people.

  745. He sought his

  746. glory from God.

  747. God.

  748. And this should be

  749. our mindset as

  750. well.

  751. The second way

  752. that Jesus teaches

  753. us to seek the

  754. glory of God is a

  755. little different.

  756. He teaches us not

  757. to seek glory or

  758. praise for ourselves

  759. but instead to seek

  760. glory or praise for

  761. God.

  762. And if we look back

  763. to all that Jesus

  764. taught, we can see

  765. how he did this for

  766. his disciples as

  767. well.

  768. We'll just give

  769. one example.

  770. In the prayer that

  771. Jesus taught his

  772. disciples to pray, he

  773. taught them to seek

  774. the glory of the

  775. Father.

  776. He said, this then is

  777. how you should pray.

  778. Pray like this.

  779. Our Father in

  780. heaven, hallowed be

  781. your name.

  782. Not hallowed and

  783. respected and

  784. revered and honored

  785. be my name.

  786. No.

  787. Pray, hallowed be

  788. your name, God.

  789. May you be glorified.

  790. That's the heart that

  791. he taught his

  792. disciples to have.

  793. What we do and

  794. say should be to

  795. make much of God

  796. and not much of

  797. ourselves.

  798. God.

  799. I encourage you to

  800. think of this past

  801. week.

  802. Have you been living

  803. to make much of

  804. God?

  805. Or have you been

  806. living to make much

  807. of yourself?

  808. In your

  809. conversations with

  810. other people, were

  811. you speaking to make

  812. much of God?

  813. Or were you

  814. speaking to make

  815. much of yourself?

  816. Maybe even in a

  817. false humility

  818. kind of way.

  819. How can we live

  820. to make much of

  821. God if we are too

  822. busy living to

  823. make much of

  824. ourselves?

  825. They're at odds

  826. with each other.

  827. So Jesus gives us

  828. this example of how

  829. we should live.

  830. We should not

  831. seek glory or

  832. praise or honor

  833. from other people.

  834. instead, we

  835. should do as

  836. Jesus did and

  837. seek glory and

  838. praise for God.

  839. And any glory or

  840. praise that we do

  841. seek for ourselves

  842. should be the

  843. glory that comes

  844. from God, that

  845. well done, good

  846. and faithful

  847. servant.

  848. Finally, I want

  849. to come back to

  850. what I said

  851. earlier about this

  852. story not mainly

  853. being about us.

  854. I hope that we

  855. can take a lesson

  856. here from Jesus

  857. about how we

  858. should live, what

  859. our mindset should

  860. be.

  861. I hope that all

  862. of us will go

  863. into this week and

  864. take some time to

  865. pray and ask the

  866. Lord, what kind

  867. of habits or

  868. things am I doing

  869. or saying to get

  870. glory from other

  871. people?

  872. The truth is we

  873. all do this in

  874. many ways, whether

  875. we realize it or

  876. not.

  877. It's just part of

  878. the subtle and

  879. pervasive taint of

  880. sin that is in

  881. all of us.

  882. But this is the

  883. gospel.

  884. This is the good

  885. news of Jesus.

  886. And the good

  887. news for people

  888. pleasers like you

  889. and me is that

  890. there is one who

  891. did not live to

  892. please himself.

  893. the good news for

  894. self-centered glory

  895. seekers like you

  896. and me is that

  897. there is one who

  898. did not live to

  899. seek his own

  900. glory but in

  901. every way humbled

  902. himself and

  903. sought the glory of

  904. God and God

  905. alone.

  906. And because he

  907. did, he was able

  908. to make atonement

  909. for our sins.

  910. He was able to

  911. secure forgiveness

  912. for us, for all

  913. of our proud and

  914. self-centered glory

  915. seeking, all of our

  916. people pleasing.

  917. He was able to

  918. bear the punishment

  919. we deserve for all

  920. of it and wipe the

  921. slate clean.

  922. Not only that, but

  923. he was able to

  924. transfer the reward

  925. and the blessing

  926. that only comes to

  927. those who live

  928. righteously and

  929. humbly.

  930. He was able to

  931. transfer that reward

  932. to us who believe.

  933. And he did this.

  934. He accomplished

  935. this by taking

  936. upon himself the

  937. humiliation and

  938. shame that is

  939. really ours.

  940. For all of the

  941. proud and self-centered

  942. glory seeking that

  943. we have done at

  944. the cross.

  945. grace.

  946. Isn't that amazing?

  947. Isn't that

  948. gracious?

  949. So seek the

  950. glory for God.

  951. Seek the glory that

  952. comes from God.

  953. But rest and

  954. rejoice in the

  955. wonderful news that

  956. for all of our

  957. times that we've

  958. failed to do those

  959. two things.

  960. Jesus has done

  961. what was needed

  962. to turn the

  963. punishment that we

  964. deserve away from

  965. us and to secure

  966. the blessing and

  967. the reward that we

  968. did not deserve for

  969. us.

  970. Praise be to God.

  971. Let's pray.

  972. Lord Jesus we are

  973. not worthy to

  974. stand in your

  975. presence.

  976. Thank you that you

  977. have loved us with

  978. such an amazing

  979. love that you

  980. humbled yourself

  981. as you did.

  982. You are worthy of

  983. all the glory all

  984. the praise and we

  985. choose not to wait

  986. until the end to

  987. bow before you

  988. but we bow before

  989. you now and we

  990. worship you.

  991. We pray and ask

  992. that you would

  993. cleanse our hearts

  994. of all sin,

  995. all pride,

  996. all arrogance,

  997. all self-righteousness

  998. and that you would

  999. teach us to walk

  1000. humbly with you

  1001. day after day.

1002. We ask this in your

  1003. name.

  1004. Amen.

  1005. Amen.

  1006. Amen.

  1007. Amen.

  1008. Amen.

  1009. Amen.

  1010. compensated by

  1011. the

  1012. name.

  1013. Amen.

  1014. Amen.

  1015. Amen.

  1016. Amen.

  1017. Amen.
