  1. Well, this morning as we open the Word of God, we're going to consider some of his words of great wisdom.

  2. Over the past few weeks, I've been reading through the story of King Solomon,

  3. just in my own personal Bible reading, and some of Solomon's words of wisdom.

  4. Maybe you know the story of King Solomon.

  5. King Solomon was the son of King David, and Solomon lived about a thousand years before Jesus was born.

  6. From our day today, 3,000 years ago, since Solomon lived and was king.

  7. And it's not often someone that we talk about, but Solomon was one of the greatest kings who ever lived.

  8. I love how his story begins.

  9. In his early years as king, Solomon had a real heart for God, just like his dad did.

  10. One day after he became king, he went up to a place called Gibeon.

  11. And there at Gibeon was where the tabernacle was set up.

  12. And it's recorded that he offered a thousand burnt offerings to the Lord in one day.

  13. A burnt offering was a sacrifice of an animal to God.

  14. And I won't get into talking about the sacrificial system this morning,

  15. but it was a moment of worship for Solomon.

  16. It was a moment of extravagant worship that cost him greatly.

  17. He held nothing back.

  18. And that night, God appeared to Solomon.

  19. God told Solomon that he could ask him for anything that he wanted.

  20. And Solomon responded with such deep humility.

  21. He said to the Lord,

  22. Here I am.

  23. You've made me the king of your people.

  24. And who am I to rule over them?

  25. Who am I to take care of them?

  26. To oversee the kingdom?

  27. To ensure that what's good and what's right and just is done among all these people of yours?

  28. And so Solomon asked God for wisdom.

  29. He asked God for a wise and discerning heart.

  30. Specifically so that he could govern and lead the people well as their king.

  31. And God was so deeply pleased with Solomon's request that he answered and gave him what he asked for.

  32. In fact, God made Solomon not only the wisest man who had ever lived up until that point,

  33. but he made him into an even wiser man than any future man would ever be except for one.

  34. And that, of course, is Jesus.

  35. As I was reading again about some of the wisdom that Solomon had,

  36. I was astounded by it.

  37. It says he was held in awe by all the people of Israel because of his great wisdom.

  38. From the rulings and decisions he made to the way that he set up and organized the kingdom

  39. to the peace and prosperity that came to the whole nation and to everyone in it

  40. because of the things that he was doing.

  41. And the people, it says, they knew, they understood that it was God who had given him this great wisdom.

  42. With his wisdom, he built the temple of the Lord.

  43. Probably the most beautiful, ornate, maybe even the most expensive building ever made on earth.

  44. The most holy place, kind of just an inner part of the temple,

  45. was overlaid with about 21 metric tons of gold.

  46. By today's figures, that's almost a billion dollars worth of gold.

  47. Never mind the rest of the temple and its furnishings.

  48. Even the nails, apparently, in the most holy place were made of gold.

  49. Only the best for the place where God would live among his people.

  50. And we might wonder, well, where did Solomon get all this wealth?

  51. God gave him unbelievable wisdom for trade and for foreign exchange and administration.

  52. He was so wise that he was known across the world in his day.

  53. Listen to what it says in 1 Kings 4, verse 29.

    1 Kings 4:29

  54. God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

  55. Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the east

  56. and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.

  57. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezraite,

  58. wiser than Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol.

  59. I don't know who any of these guys are, personally,

  60. but I'm sure that the writer is just listing off all the wisest, the best thinkers,

  61. the greatest philosophers of Solomon's day.

  62. He was wiser than all of them.

  63. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.

  64. He spoke 3,000 proverbs and his songs numbered 1,005.

  65. He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the walls.

  66. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish.

  67. From all nations, people came to listen to Solomon's wisdom,

  68. sent by all the kings of the world who had heard of his wisdom.

  69. You may have heard the story of the Queen of Sheba traveling up from the south to pay Solomon a visit,

  70. and she was just absolutely astounded and in awe by his kingdom and his wisdom.

  71. At the height of Solomon's empire, his yearly, yearly intake of gold was about 23 tons.

  72. Again, almost a billion dollars by our valuing today.

  73. And then the author is careful to remind us, well, that was just the gold.

  74. Don't forget about all his revenues from merchants and traders

  75. and from all the Arabian kings and from all the governors of all the surrounding territories

  76. that he ruled over.

  77. In 2 Chronicles 9, it says,

  78. He was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth.

  79. All the kings of the earth sought audience with Solomon

  80. to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.

  81. Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift,

  82. articles of silver and gold and robes,

  83. weapons and spices and horses and mules.

  84. A little further down,

  85. The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones

  86. and cedar as plentiful as sycamore fig trees in the foothills.

  87. Reflecting on the building of his palace, it says,

  88. Nothing was made of silver because silver was considered of little value in Solomon's day.

  89. Amazing.

  90. Apart from Jesus, Solomon was the wisest man the earth had ever known.

  91. And it's because God, the one who created the universe, gave him this great wisdom.

  92. So let me ask you something this morning.

  93. If you had lived in Solomon's day,

  94. And by chance, you had been given an opportunity to come to his palace

  95. and to have a private gathering with him, a meeting with him,

  96. would you take that opportunity?

  97. The chance to hear some of his great wisdom?

  98. Well, the amazing thing is that we have the very words that Solomon spoke right here in our Bibles today.

  99. And so as I read from Proverbs chapter 6,

    Proverbs 6 chapter mention

  100. I want you to imagine that that's where you are,

  101. that you've been invited here this morning to Solomon's palace,

  102. something that very few ordinary folk like you and me would ever get a chance to do,

  103. a private gathering with the legendary, world-renowned King Solomon.

  104. What might he say to you?

  105. Imagine you're sitting there sipping a glass of something.

  106. The contents of the cup are so expensive that it's more than you can even,

  107. than your whole net worth.

  108. And you look around at the palace and you see the gold-decked walls.

  109. You see all of this amazing artwork that he's collected from all over the world,

  110. these amazing furnishings.

  111. And you consider his great kingdom.

  112. And finally you come up with a question,

  113. something that you feel, well, maybe I should ask, I could ask this.

  114. Your Majesty, King Solomon,

  115. how have you managed to accomplish all of this in under 40 years?

  116. It's really a question of astonishment and wonder.

  117. But maybe if you're honest, you're looking for some priceless wisdom

  118. to help you out in your own life.

  119. And we all know the God answer to this question.

  120. Solomon has accomplished all this by his wisdom,

  121. and his wisdom, as we have said,

  122. came as a special gift from God.

  123. God blessed the work of his hands,

  124. and that's how he did it.

  125. Without that, he would have just been another king of Israel.

  126. And of course, Solomon would have been an arrogant fool

  127. not to give God the credit and the glory

  128. for all that he had done in his great kingdom.

  129. But on a different level, from a different angle,

  130. Solomon, can you give us some practical wisdom from God?

  131. How have you accomplished all this in less than 40 years?

  132. What might his response have been?

  133. Perhaps it would have been this.

  134. Proverbs 6, verse 6.

    Proverbs 6:6

  135. Go to the ant, you sluggard.

  136. Consider its ways and be wise.

  137. It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,

  138. yet it stores its provisions in summer

  139. and gathers its food at harvest.

  140. Can you imagine that?

  141. Here you are, sitting in the presence of one of the greatest,

  142. wisest, wealthiest kings who ever lived,

  143. and you're asking him for some practical wisdom

  144. to help you be more productive in life,

  145. and he basically says to you,

  146. go out into your backyard

  147. and sit down in the grass

  148. and watch some ants.

  149. If anybody else had answered your question like this,

  150. you might have laughed in their face.

  151. Are you kidding me?

  152. Human beings here,

  153. we're the most intelligent creatures on earth.

  154. You're telling me to go learn a lesson

  155. from those tiny little guys

  156. that I accidentally step on in the backyard all the time?

  157. That's a good one.

  158. But then you look around again

  159. and you think of this magnificent palace

  160. and all Solomon has achieved.

  161. Could it really be

  162. that Solomon himself,

  163. with the wisdom that God gave him,

  164. grew more wise

  165. by watching and studying ants?

  166. You better believe it.

  167. God has a way of humbling us

  168. when we need to be humbled,

  169. of using the small

  170. and the weak

  171. and the lowly things

  172. to humble the proud

  173. and the strong.

  174. Of all the things

  175. that God commands us to do

  176. in the Bible,

  177. this is perhaps one of the most surprising.

  178. Go watch the ants,

  179. he says.

  180. And of course,

  181. he doesn't mean just go look at them.

  182. I think most translations get it right

  183. when they say,

  184. consider its ways.

  185. Consider.

  186. Yes, watch them,

  187. but also think about them.

  188. Reflect on what they're doing.

  189. Ponder them

  190. and learn wisdom from them.

  191. And then Solomon gives us

  192. just enough of a tidbit

  193. of what he's seen

  194. from watching the ants

  195. to get us started,

  196. to whet our wisdom appetite.

  197. He says,

  198. you know,

  199. ants have no commander,

  200. no overseer,

  201. no ruler.

  202. You'll never see

  203. some of the ants

  204. just kind of standing

  205. on the side

  206. as the worker ants go by,

  207. making sure that all the ants

  208. are doing their jobs.

  209. And if one of those ants

  210. decides to get out of line

  211. and slack off,

  212. you'll never see

  213. one of them go over there

  214. and smack it on the abdomen

  215. and say, get back to work.

  216. You'll never see that with ants.

  217. They just do their jobs

  218. when nobody is looking.

  219. Now we might wonder why.

  220. Well, it's beyond us

  221. to figure out

  222. what really goes on

  223. in the brain of an ant

  224. or if they even have motivations.

  225. But let's consider

  226. for a moment

  227. with Solomon

  228. the challenges

  229. of the ant.

  230. He says,

  231. it stores its provisions

  232. in summer.

  233. And so we think

  234. of the challenge

  235. of winter.

  236. How do those little critters

  237. survive up to six months

  238. of that?

  239. Canadian winters.

  240. Think about this

  241. from the perspective

  242. of an ant.

  243. Six months of that

  244. must be like

  245. an ice age to them.

  246. Those piles of snow,

  247. those drifts

  248. must be like

  249. Everest's

  250. to them.

  251. The whole world

  252. becomes a frozen,

  253. barren wasteland.

  254. And not only

  255. is the cold a threat,

  256. but the scarcity

  257. of food is a threat.

  258. In order to survive

  259. the winter,

  260. the ants must make

  261. some serious preparations.

  262. They must prepare

  263. a fully functional

  264. underground bunker

  265. and it's got to be

  266. fully stocked

  267. and supplied

  268. to go all those

  269. months.

  270. They've got to get

  271. enough food

  272. to survive

  273. that whole long

  274. period

  275. even before it

  276. starts.

  277. And not only that,

  278. think of it in terms

  279. of the number

  280. of mouths

  281. to feed.

  282. Apparently the

  283. smaller ant colonies

  284. have about 500

  285. ants in them,

  286. but they can go up

  287. to 10,000.

  288. And I never knew

  289. this before this week,

  290. but they can even

  291. group with other

  292. colonies to form

  293. super colonies

  294. in the millions

  295. in some places.

  296. 500,

  297. let's go with

  298. the small number,

  299. 500 mouths

  300. to feed

  301. for six months.

  302. It's not a perfect

  303. analogy because

  304. ants don't eat

  305. or function like

  306. we do,

  307. but just imagine

  308. trying to meal plan

  309. for 500 people

  310. for six months

  311. in an underground

  312. shelter

  313. with no contact

  314. with the outside

  315. world,

  316. no grocery stores

  317. to go shopping

  318. at.

  319. That's going to

  320. take some serious

  321. planning and

  322. preparations to get

  323. the whole colony

  324. of 500 up to

  325. 10,000 through

  326. that.

  327. No wonder they

  328. work almost

  329. non-stop from

  330. the time that the

  331. snow melts to

  332. the time that it

  333. falls again.

  334. If they didn't,

  335. there probably

  336. wouldn't be too

  337. many of them

  338. left.

  339. at least not

  340. up here in our

  341. climate.

  342. So how do they

  343. do it?

  344. It's their

  345. diligence.

  346. Maybe you've

  347. seen an ant

  348. doing some work.

  349. Maybe you've had

  350. ants in your home

  351. even.

  352. They're relentless.

  353. They're tireless.

  354. They're persistent

  355. in their work

  356. all through

  357. those summer

  358. months.

  359. We might call

  360. them prudent.

  361. Whether they're

  362. actually planning

  363. or thinking ahead,

  364. I don't know.

  365. Probably God

  366. instilled them

  367. with some kind

  368. of natural

  369. instinct and

  370. programming,

  371. a God-given

  372. wisdom of sorts

  373. so that they can

  374. flourish and thrive

  375. according to his

  376. good design.

  377. But it's the work

  378. itself that they

  379. do, all that

  380. work through the

  381. summer, that

  382. ensures their

  383. survival.

  384. And boy, can

  385. ants work.

  386. have you ever

  387. taken the time

  388. just to watch

  389. ants at work?

  390. I've had a couple

  391. good opportunities.

  392. When I lived in

  393. Edmonton, I

  394. remembered just

  395. marveling.

  396. We had a giant

  397. colony underneath

  398. the concrete pad

  399. in our backyard.

  400. Every time I would

  401. put the lawnmower on

  402. there and start it

  403. up, the vibrations

  404. would send them

  405. out every side,

  406. thousands of them.

  407. It was amazing.

  408. I even tried

  409. wiping them all

  410. out a couple

  411. times because they

  412. were pretty close

  413. to the house.

  414. I didn't want them

  415. to get in.

  416. And yet, it seemed

  417. like within days,

  418. I'd do it again

  419. and there's thousands

  420. more.

  421. Where are these

  422. things coming from?

  423. Well, one day,

  424. these ants had

  425. found something

  426. tasty in the back

  427. alley.

  428. And I couldn't

  429. believe it.

  430. I just watched

  431. as all in a line,

  432. about over 20

  433. feet away, they

  434. just marched.

  435. All the way

  436. out, grabbed a

  437. hunk of whatever

  438. it was, I can't

  439. even remember.

  440. It was about half

  441. the size of the

  442. ant.

  443. And then they

  444. would lug this

  445. thing all the way

  446. back to the

  447. colony.

  448. And they would

  449. just go back and

  450. forth all day

  451. long.

  452. It was amazing.

  453. You tried to put

  454. something in the

  455. line, they would

  456. just go around and

  457. get back on the

  458. line and keep

  459. going.

  460. I was reminded

  461. of this all again

  462. this week because

  463. some ants actually

  464. found their way

  465. into my basement

  466. this past week

  467. here in Davidson.

  468. I just noticed a

  469. little something

  470. scurrying across the

  471. floor in the

  472. washroom.

  473. Okay.

  474. Then another.

  475. Then another.

  476. Then another.

  477. Uh-oh.

  478. We got a problem

  479. here.

  480. I started following

  481. this trail of ants

  482. into the hallway,

  483. into my bedroom,

  484. going under my bed,

  485. and there's this

  486. little hole by the

  487. baseboard and the

  488. carpet.

  489. And they, one by one,

  490. just crawling up out

  491. of that.

  492. All the way to the

  493. other side of the

  494. house, they were

  495. going in the bathroom,

  496. down the hallway,

  497. into the kids'

  498. bedroom.

  499. And then at the very

  500. end, you could see

  501. different ants kind of

  502. just wandering all

  503. over the place,

  504. scouting for any kind

  505. of food to eat.

  506. It's amazing.

  507. They were doing

  508. that in the morning,

  509. first thing, when I

  510. saw them, and they

  511. were still going hard

  512. in the evening when I

  513. went to bed.

  514. Hopefully they got

  515. lots of good food from

  516. the ant traps that I

  517. put down for them,

  518. because I don't want to

  519. have a total infestation.

  520. But amazing creatures,

  521. and according to God,

  522. they are creatures that

  523. we're meant to learn

  524. from.

  525. Go to the ant, you

  526. sluggard.

  527. They are an example

  528. of wisdom, of

  529. diligence, of

  530. discipline.

  531. You want to accomplish

  532. more in life?

  533. Then, says Solomon,

  534. you need to work like

  535. they do.

  536. You need to make the

  537. most of every

  538. opportunity you have

  539. to work while you

  540. have it.

  541. So how can we apply

  542. these words?

  543. How can we put them

  544. into practice?

  545. Well, if it's been a

  546. while since you last

  547. took some time to

  548. consider the ways of

  549. the ants, I'll invite

  550. you this week to even

  551. go out and take a few

  552. minutes to do some

  553. ant watching.

  554. You're probably

  555. thinking that's funny.

  556. You can't be serious.

  557. What a waste of time.

  558. I'm not joking.

  559. I don't think Solomon

  560. was joking.

  561. I think he actually

  562. meant for us to take

  563. a close look and to

  564. understand the lesson.

  565. So I want to encourage

  566. you to try that this

  567. week.

  568. And if you can't find

  569. some ants, there's

  570. lots of them on

  571. YouTube.

  572. And there's lots of

  573. phenomenal videos just

  574. showing the kinds of

  575. things they do.

  576. I saw one little video

  577. clip of a wasp nest

  578. hanging from a roof.

  579. And a trail of ants,

  580. they made a bridge of

  581. themselves into the

  582. nest from on top of

  583. the roof.

  584. And they were crawling

  585. on a chain of ants

  586. into this thing,

  587. invading the nest,

  588. dismantling it and

  589. taking it back to

  590. their colony for food.

  591. Amazing.

  592. There's other things,

  593. all kinds of things

  594. you can see.

  595. I'll let you search it

  596. up and see it.

  597. The second thing,

  598. and this is kind of a

  599. more general principle

  600. to consider.

  601. Do you know that the

  602. entire created world

  603. is full of similar

  604. kinds of lessons?

  605. God has infused all of

  606. creation with his

  607. beyond measure wisdom.

  608. Everything you see in

  609. nature points to his

  610. glory.

  611. Some things offer a

  612. practical wisdom lesson

  613. like this one.

  614. Others might give us

  615. creative inspiration for

  616. our own inventions and

  617. creations.

  618. Think about it.

  619. this is not the only

  620. wisdom lesson in the

  621. Bible that's drawn from

  622. nature.

  623. Solomon will tell us

  624. many more things like

  625. this through the rest of

  626. his Proverbs and in

  627. Ecclesiastes.

  628. Jesus will tell us to

  629. look at and consider the

  630. birds, to take a lesson

  631. from them and the

  632. flowers of the field.

  633. He pointed his disciples

  634. to seeds, to sowing and

  635. planting, to rain, to

  636. clouds, to thunder, to

  637. lightning.

  638. The men who wrote the

  639. Psalms pointed us to the

  640. sun, the moon, the

  641. stars, the mountains, the

  642. seas and their powerful

  643. waves, the meadows and

  644. the grasses.

  645. There's lessons to be

  646. learned from all these

  647. things that God has made

  648. from sheep and goats,

  649. lions, the deer, and

  650. yes, even from the rock

  651. badgers that I saw at the

  652. Calgary Zoo last week.

  653. They're actually in

  654. Proverbs, believe it or

  655. not.

  656. All of creation is filled

  657. with the wisdom of God.

  658. And so I want to

  659. encourage you this summer

  660. to open not just your

  661. eyes but your hearts to

  662. that possibility, to that

  663. reality.

  664. I want to encourage you

  665. as you go your way this

  666. summer, maybe some of you

  667. are going on vacation,

  668. maybe you're going to be

  669. outside a little bit more

  670. because the weather is

  671. nice.

  672. You'll probably see lots of

  673. things but take some time

  674. to linger over them and

  675. ask God to open your

  676. heart to the wisdom, to

  677. the lessons that he has

  678. for you, even in the

  679. stuff of nature which he

  680. has made.

  681. Don't just go to the ant

  682. this summer, go to all of

  683. it.

  684. But back to the ant for a

  685. moment.

  686. None of us really wants to

  687. admit that we are a

  688. sluggard.

  689. I don't even like that

  690. word.

  691. It's a pretty strong word,

  692. isn't it?

  693. I really like the Christian

  694. Standard Bible.

  695. It translates it a little

  696. differently.

  697. It says, go to the ant, you

  698. slacker.

  699. That's kind of a good

  700. modern day rendition of

  701. that.

  702. It's a word that's sometimes

  703. used in parallel with

  704. foolishness.

  705. And probably none of us

  706. wants to admit that we are

  707. foolish or sluggardish or a

  708. slacker or lazy.

  709. But then we might wonder,

  710. well, how would I know if

  711. I am?

  712. How do you measure if you're

  713. working long enough or

  714. hard enough?

  715. We can't always trust our

  716. feelings about it because

  717. the person who's lazy is a

  718. sack of potatoes feels like

  719. he's doing all he can each

  720. day.

  721. But on the other hand,

  722. must I always feel guilty

  723. about stopping to take some

  724. rest, to take a break, to

  725. take a night off?

  726. We can't go by our

  727. feelings.

  728. And so probably the next

  729. thing that we'll do is we'll

  730. start to compare ourselves to

  731. others.

  732. But even that way of

  733. measuring is unreliable

  734. because truthfully we can

  735. all think of some people

  736. that work much harder, much

  737. longer than we do.

  738. And we can all think of some

  739. people who compared to us

  740. seem lazy.

  741. Is a sluggard just someone

  742. who's really lazy compared

  743. to me?

  744. If that were the case, then

  745. this advice would only be

  746. for a very few people.

  747. Or is Solomon aiming this

  748. wise advice at a mindset,

  749. at a mentality, at an

  750. attitude that any of us can

  751. have?

  752. Is it possible that by God's

  753. measure, I am a sluggard?

  754. Are you willing to ask that

  755. question of God this week?

  756. Lord, am I working long

  757. enough?

  758. Am I working hard enough?

  759. Am I working on the right

  760. things?

  761. The things that are most

  762. important in life, the things

  763. that you would have me do?

  764. I want to encourage you to

  765. simply ask God some of these

  766. questions this week in prayer.

  767. Because this is something that

  768. we need his help to see if it's

  769. in our lives.

  770. We need his spirit to convict us

  771. of this.

  772. And as we do that, let's not

  773. misunderstand the lesson from the

  774. ant.

  775. It's not that we should work

  776. constantly and never rest.

  777. If we're listening carefully,

  778. Solomon, God is saying that we

  779. should work diligently when we

  780. have the opportunity to do so.

  781. Because a time or season or day

  782. is coming, may come, when that

  783. window of opportunity will be

  784. closed.

  785. And we can apply this to all

  786. sorts of things.

  787. We could apply this to old age.

  788. There comes a day when you're no

  789. longer able to work like you're

  790. used to.

  791. Are you being careful to store up

  792. provisions for that day?

  793. Or are you going further and

  794. further and further into debt?

  795. We could apply this to seasonal

  796. work.

  797. We all know that feeling of the

  798. leaves hitting the ground and,

  799. oh, we've got to get them up

  800. before the snow is coming.

  801. Sometimes we need to burn the

  802. midnight oil just to get things

  803. done.

  804. We could apply this to the work

  805. of any given day.

  806. There's only so much light in a

  807. day.

  808. We have the opportunity to work

  809. during the day, to connect with

  810. people while they're awake during

  811. the day.

  812. But when evening rolls around,

  813. those doors start to close.

  814. We could apply this like Jesus did

  815. to the spiritual work of meeting

  816. the needs of others.

  817. Are we making the most of our

  818. opportunity to connect with others

  819. and to serve others, to reach out to

  820. people who don't know Christ and

  821. build relationships with them?

  822. Because we know that eventually those

  823. opportunities, those doors will close

  824. for one reason or another.

  825. Whether the Lord takes us home or that

  826. person or their family move somewhere

  827. else.

  828. I want to encourage you to pray about

  829. this this week.

  830. You may not need to go to the aunt for a

  831. lesson about working more hours at your

  832. job or around your house.

  833. But maybe when it comes to your spiritual

  834. life, you've been a slacker, a sluggard.

  835. Maybe you know that there's something in

  836. your life that you really should be working

  837. at, but you've been putting it off and

  838. putting it off and putting it off.

  839. So I just want to simply encourage you to

  840. ask the Lord about this this week.

  841. And I trust that he will show you, that

  842. he will show me as I ask him to what we

  843. need to hear, what is really going on in

  844. our hearts this week.

  845. And the good news is this.

  846. When we ask, God gives grace.

  847. He gives help.

  848. He gives strength to those who earnestly

  849. and humbly seek it from him.

  850. So let's do that.

  851. Lord Jesus, we thank you for this lesson,

  852. this simple, practical lesson of wisdom

  853. that you've put into your word.

  854. God, we pray that you would put it deep

  855. in our hearts.

  856. Make us diligent in all the areas of life

  857. that matter most.

  858. help us to see where we need to change,

  859. where we need to grow.

  860. Open our eyes to the countless lessons

  861. that you would have us learn this summer

  862. through all that we see that you have made.

  863. We love you.

  864. We give you praise.

  865. In Jesus' name, amen.

  866. Amen.
