  1. and even a little bit about his return someday.

  2. But as we wrapped up Thursday evening, I got thinking,

  3. not that I had the energy for it, but that it would have been nice to have a day six

  4. and just talk a little bit about what happened after Jesus' ascension.

  5. And so my message this morning is going to be focused a little bit on that.

  6. There's something wonderful and amazing that God did after Jesus ascended into heaven.

  7. So I went back and read that story this week.

  8. And I didn't have time to make up slides for the scriptures,

  9. so there are Bibles in front of you if you didn't bring yours.

  10. We're going to be in Acts 2 this morning.

  11. Acts 2.

  12. So Jesus has died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.

  13. God has raised him back to life from the dead.

  14. He's been appearing to many of his followers over a period of about 40 days.

  15. And then, before their very eyes, Jesus was taken up into heaven.

  16. And not long after that, maybe a week or so, comes the day of Pentecost.

  17. It was a Jewish festival that happened every year.

  18. And it was something that they were commanded to celebrate in the Old Testament.

  19. And so Jesus has been taken up to heaven.

  20. The disciples, they go back from the Mount of Olives after watching that into the city of Jerusalem.

  21. Jerusalem, and then comes Pentecost.

  22. So you can just imagine the city of Jerusalem is filled with people.

  23. All these people are coming from all over the world to celebrate this feast.

  24. Let's read a little bit of the story in Acts 2.

  25. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

  26. Suddenly, a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

  27. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

  28. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

  29. Wow.

  30. Can you imagine what that would have been like?

  31. There they are sitting in this house all together.

  32. And then all of a sudden, they hear the sound of a rushing wind inside the house.

  33. So next time we get one of those super windy days here in Davidson,

  34. which somehow it seems like we haven't had as many as last year, this year,

  35. you can open all your windows and your doors and let that sound fill the house.

  36. And maybe it was something like that.

  37. Though it doesn't say that they were actually getting blown around.

  38. It was just the sound of wind.

  39. And as they're hearing this, they're looking around, and all of a sudden, they see something really strange.

  40. Luke's description is kind of interesting.

  41. The dividing of fiery tongues coming to rest or settle on each of them.

  42. Now we're going to have to use your imagination a little bit here.

  43. It wasn't actual fire.

  44. No one was burned.

  45. And it wasn't tongues like this kind of tongue.

  46. Sometimes we even describe flames of fire as kind of licking up things as they move.

  47. It's just kind of the way they move.

  48. So use your imagination.

  49. Something like fire licking out towards each of them and coming, Luke says,

  50. to rest or settle on each one of them.

  51. What a strange sight that must have been.

  52. And all this is they're hearing the sound of rushing wind.

  53. And Luke tells us what this is.

  54. He says in verse 4,

  55. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.

  56. That's what this is.

  57. God's Holy Spirit is coming down upon them and entering into them right here in this room.

  58. We might think back to Jesus' baptism and how the Spirit came down from heaven upon him like a dove.

  59. Well, it's similar here, but not a dove.

  60. Like fiery tongues.

  61. What an amazing thing it must have been to see that and even more to experience that.

  62. And Luke tells us that there was a sign that went with this.

  63. He says,

  64. So this would have felt quite strange.

  65. Just like with the prophets in the Old Testament,

  66. when God poured out His Spirit on them,

  67. many times they would just start speaking.

  68. They were saying the things that God's Spirit was giving them to say.

  69. Well, here, the apostles and the believers who are all gathered together in this room begin to do that all at the same time.

  70. But interestingly, in this case, it's in a whole variety of languages.

  71. All at the same time.

  72. I tried to think of what this would sound like.

  73. I'm imagining myself maybe in like a busy international airport with people just chattering away in all different languages.

  74. And interestingly, this all seems to cause quite a stir in the neighborhood.

  75. Luke tells us in verse 5,

  76. Now there were staying in Jerusalem, God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

  77. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment,

  78. because each one heard their own language being spoken.

  79. And utterly amazed, they asked,

  80. Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?

  81. Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?

  82. Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,

  83. residents of Mesopotamia,

  84. Judea and Cappadocia,

  85. Pontus in Asia,

  86. Phrygia and Pamphylia,

  87. Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene,

  88. visitors from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism,

  89. Cretans and Arabs.

  90. We hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues.

  91. Amazed and perplexed,

  92. they asked one another,

  93. What does this mean?

  94. Some, however,

  95. made fun of them and said,

  96. Ah, they've had too much wine.

  97. So all of this causes quite the stir in the neighborhood.

  98. Luke reminds us again that there are people from all over the world who have come to this festival.

  99. At some point, the apostles and the believers seem to move outside,

  100. and this whole crowd starts to gather.

  101. They're hearing the apostles and the believers speaking in other languages.

  102. And I love Luke's description.

  103. He uses a few different words,

  104. but bewildered,

  105. utterly amazed.

  106. Like, what's going on here?

  107. Perplexed.

  108. I mean, think about it.

  109. Here's a group of at least,

  110. probably,

  111. well, we know for sure 11,

  112. but probably some believers as well.

  113. And from the midst of this group,

  114. 15 languages are being spoken at the same time.

  115. At least 15,

  116. if we count up all the people groups that are described here.

  117. All speaking for God,

  118. as God's Spirit gives them words to say.

  119. I mean, can you imagine for a moment if you had a megaphone,

  120. and you talked into it,

  121. and out the other side came what you said,

  122. in 15 different languages at the same time.

  123. That's maybe a little bit of an analogy of what's happening here.

  124. God is speaking,

  125. and this group of people is like that megaphone,

  126. and it's coming out in every language that's represented in the crowd there.

  127. Some have suggested that the apostles were just speaking one language,

  128. and that the people were all hearing it in their own.

  129. But as I read it,

  130. this isn't mainly a miracle of hearing.

  131. This is a miracle of speaking.

  132. It says in verse 4,

  133. they spoke in other languages.

  134. So it probably sounded like quite a racket.

  135. No wonder people were so bewildered and perplexed.

  136. No wonder they were amazed.

  137. How is it that this bunch of Galileans

  138. are able to speak 15 different languages all of a sudden?

  139. And these are not all neighboring dialects.

  140. I mean, you've got as far west as Rome,

  141. as far east as Persia and Mesopotamia,

  142. as far south as Egypt,

  143. represented here.

  144. And what were these apostles and believers saying

  145. in all these different languages?

  146. Verse 11,

  147. we hear them declaring the wonders of God

  148. in our own languages.

  149. They were talking about the wonders of God.

  150. It doesn't say exactly what wonders,

  151. but maybe something like we were doing at VBS,

  152. trying to highlight some of the big things about God

  153. and what He has done.

  154. Probably, most recently, about Jesus.

  155. So this wasn't just a bunch of jibber-jabber

  156. coming out of their mouths.

  157. This was intelligible speech.

  158. This was about God and His wonders.

  159. And they realized, some of them,

  160. that this was a sign.

  161. They said,

  162. what does this mean?

  163. This is significant.

  164. What's going on?

  165. But not everybody felt that way.

  166. There were those few

  167. who were making fun of them.

  168. Probably they were listening in

  169. on all the other languages

  170. they were hearing

  171. and thinking,

  172. whoa,

  173. like,

  174. these guys,

  175. they've had a few too many drinks here.

  176. I don't know what they were thinking.

  177. This guy's doing his impersonation of the Romans.

  178. This guy's doing an impersonation of the Egyptians.

  179. Anyways,

  180. Peter then stands up

  181. and addresses the crowd.

  182. Verse 14.

  183. Then Peter stood up with the eleven,

  184. raised his voice,

  185. and addressed the crowd.

  186. Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem,

  187. let me explain this to you.

  188. Listen carefully to what I say.

  189. These people are not drunk,

  190. as you suppose.

  191. It's only nine in the morning.

  192. No.

  193. This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.

  194. In the last days,

  195. God says,

  196. I will pour out my spirit on all people.

  197. Your sons and daughters will prophesy.

  198. Your young men will see visions.

  199. Your old men will dream dreams.

  200. Even on my servants,

  201. both men and women,

  202. I will pour out my spirit in those days,

  203. and they will prophesy.

  204. I will show wonders in the heavens above,

  205. and signs on the earth below,

  206. blood and fire and billows of smoke.

  207. The sun will be turned to darkness,

  208. and the moon to blood,

  209. before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

  210. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  211. He quotes a fair bit of what Joel said,

  212. the prophet,

  213. long ago.

  214. We're not going to get into all the details of that,

  215. but let's focus for a minute on his main point.

  216. Peter's main point here is,

  217. listen guys,

  218. what you're hearing and seeing in us today,

  219. this is what God said would happen a long time ago.

  220. It's the fulfillment of prophecy.

  221. Long ago,

  222. God promised that he would pour out his spirit on people.

  223. And that's exactly what you're seeing happening right here,

  224. right now,

  225. with us.

  226. It's by his spirit that we are speaking in these other languages

  227. about the wonders of God.

  228. And now that we've got that all cleared up,

  229. let me tell you about Jesus.

  230. I love the way Peter just rolls right into that.

  231. Verse 22.

  232. Fellow Israelites,

  233. listen to this.

  234. Jesus of Nazareth.

  235. Jesus of Nazareth

  236. was a man accredited

  237. by God

  238. to you

  239. by miracles,

  240. wonders,

  241. and signs

  242. which God did among you

  243. through him

  244. as you yourselves know.

  245. This man was handed over to you

  246. by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge.

  247. And you,

  248. with the help of wicked men,

  249. put him to death

  250. by nailing him

  251. to a cross.

  252. But God

  253. raised him from the dead,

  254. freeing him from the agony of death

  255. because it was impossible for death

  256. to keep its hold

  257. on him.

  258. And he just keeps on going.

  259. I love this.

  260. By the spirit of God,

  261. Peter

  262. is

  263. bald.

  264. Just over a month ago,

  265. he was cowering in fear.

  266. He denied the Lord.

  267. After

  268. Jesus died,

  269. he was

  270. hiding behind locked doors

  271. for fear of the religious leaders.

  272. Now,

  273. he is

  274. proclaiming to the whole crowd,

  275. probably the largest crowd

  276. he's ever spoken to

  277. with such boldness

  278. and passion.

  279. Let me tell you about Jesus.

  280. The first thing he says

  281. is that Jesus

  282. was accredited

  283. by God.

  284. That man

  285. from Nazareth

  286. named Jesus,

  287. he's

  288. attested by God.

  289. He's verified.

  290. He's validated

  291. by God.

  292. To all of you.

  293. In what way?

  294. By miracles,

  295. wonders,

  296. and signs

  297. which God

  298. performed

  299. through him.

  300. As you know,

  301. as you yourselves

  302. know.

  303. It's like he's saying,

  304. you all know what I'm talking

  305. about here.

  306. You know

  307. the things

  308. that Jesus did.

  309. Some of you

  310. even witnessed

  311. the things

  312. that Jesus did.

  313. Maybe some of you

  314. even had a taste

  315. of the bread

  316. that he made

  317. at the feeding

  318. of the 5,000.

  319. And Peter just

  320. tells it like it is.

  321. God himself

  322. verified

  323. and validated

  324. this Jesus

  325. of Nazareth

  326. by the miracles

  327. that God did

  328. through him.

  329. And what happened

  330. with Jesus?

  331. He says,

  332. very pointedly,

  333. you,

  334. with the help

  335. of wicked men,

  336. put him to death

  337. by nailing him

  338. to a cross.

  339. What a rebuke.

  340. Peter's saying,

  341. you put to death

  342. the one

  343. that God

  344. attested to,

  345. verified,

  346. validated

  347. as the Messiah.

  348. But Peter

  349. also says this

  350. in verse 23.

  351. He says,

  352. this man

  353. was handed

  354. over to you

  355. by God's

  356. deliberate plan

  357. and foreknowledge.

  358. In other words,

  359. God knew

  360. that you would

  361. do that

  362. even before

  363. you did it.

  364. More than that,

  365. it was part

  366. of his

  367. deliberate plan

  368. Do you hear that?

  369. He planned

  370. that it would

  371. go that way

  372. before any

  373. of it happened.

  374. We might be

  375. tempted sometimes

  376. to look at

  377. what happened

  378. to Jesus

  379. in that last

  380. week before

  381. he died

  382. and think of

  383. it as just

  384. everything spinning

  385. out of control

  386. here.

  387. And God's

  388. plan to install

  389. Jesus as the

  390. king has been

  391. foiled,

  392. it's ruined.

  393. No,

  394. says Peter,

  395. it's not.

  396. This plan

  397. was planned

  398. all along.

  399. God's

  400. deliberate plan.

  401. God is able

  402. to bring about

  403. his good

  404. and perfect

  405. purposes and

  406. plans

  407. even as

  408. wicked men

  409. do what

  410. wicked men

  411. do.

  412. Verse 23

  413. and 24

  414. again.

  415. You put him

  416. to death

  417. by nailing him

  418. to the cross,

  419. but God

  420. raised him

  421. from the dead.

  422. God

  423. said,

  424. I love the

  425. way that

  426. Peter just

  427. declares it.

  428. He proclaims

  429. it.

  430. He doesn't

  431. say,

  432. I want to

  433. suggest something

  434. for your

  435. consideration.

  436. Jesus is

  437. alive.

  438. No,

  439. he declares

  440. it as fact,

  441. but God

  442. raised him

  443. from the

  444. dead.

  445. dead.

  446. You have

  447. to know,

  448. too,

  449. that the

  450. religious

  451. leaders over

  452. these past

  453. 50 days have

  454. been working

  455. very hard to

  456. silence and

  457. squelch anything

  458. to do with

  459. Jesus rising

  460. from the

  461. dead.

  462. dead.

  463. Well,

  464. here Peter

  465. just announces

  466. it to the

  467. whole crowd,

  468. not only the

  469. locals in

  470. Jerusalem,

  471. but everybody

  472. who's come

  473. from all over

  474. the place

  475. and gathered

  476. for the

  477. feast.

  478. You can

  479. almost see

  480. the look

  481. on the

  482. religious

  483. leaders'

  484. faces.

  485. Oh,

  486. stop talking

  487. about that

  488. Jesus.

  489. God

  490. raised Jesus

  491. of Nazareth

  492. from the

  493. dead,

  494. says Peter.

  495. And then

  496. he goes

  497. on and he

  498. reminds them

  499. of what David

  500. said by the

  501. spirit,

  502. which foretold

  503. that this

  504. would happen.

  505. We're not

  506. going to go

  507. into all the

  508. details of

  509. that in

  510. the next

  511. verses here

  512. this morning.

  513. But after

  514. quoting from

  515. that David's

  516. psalm,

  517. Peter comes

  518. to say this

  519. in verse 31.

  520. He says,

  521. Seeing what

  522. was to come,

  523. David spoke

  524. of the

  525. resurrection

  526. of the

  527. Messiah,

  528. that he

  529. was not

  530. abandoned

  531. to the

  532. realm of

  533. the dead,

  534. nor did

  535. his body

  536. see decay.

  537. God

  538. has raised

  539. this Jesus

  540. to life,

  541. and we

  542. are all

  543. witnesses

  544. of it.

  545. exalted

  546. to the

  547. right hand

  548. of God,

  549. he has

  550. received

  551. from the

  552. Father

  553. the

  554. promised

  555. Holy

  556. Spirit,

  557. and has

  558. poured

  559. out

  560. what you

  561. now see

  562. and hear.

  563. Yes.

  564. I love

  565. that.

  566. He just

  567. boldly

  568. tells the

  569. whole crowd

  570. what he

  571. has witnessed

  572. in the past

  573. 50 days.

  574. Jesus is

  575. alive,

  576. not just

  577. me,

  578. but all

  579. of us

  580. here are

  581. witnesses

  582. to it.

  583. we saw

  584. the empty

  585. tomb,

  586. we saw

  587. and heard

  588. the angels

  589. there,

  590. and we

  591. saw Jesus

  592. himself

  593. alive

  594. in the

  595. flesh

  596. over these

  597. past

  598. 40 days.

  599. We're

  600. witnesses

  601. to the

  602. fact.

  603. Not only

  604. that,

  605. he says,

  606. but we

  607. saw Jesus

  608. exalted

  609. to the

  610. right hand

  611. of God.

  612. That word

  613. exalted

  614. means to

  615. lift up,

  616. that's

  617. exactly

  618. what the

  619. apostles

  620. and the

  621. believers

  622. who were

  623. gathered

  624. just a

  625. few days

  626. ago

  627. saw.

  628. They saw

  629. Jesus

  630. being lifted

  631. up into

  632. the sky

  633. to heaven

  634. by God.

  635. And it

  636. wasn't just a

  637. change in

  638. location.

  639. Peter says

  640. it was a

  641. moment of

  642. exaltation.

  643. It was a

  644. moment in

  645. which God

  646. installed him

  647. as king

  648. to the

  649. highest

  650. position

  651. of

  652. authority,

  653. the right

  654. hand of

  655. God.

  656. Verse 36,

  657. he goes

  658. on, he

  659. says,

  660. therefore,

  661. let all

  662. Israel be

  663. assured of

  664. this.

  665. God has

  666. made this

  667. Jesus whom

  668. you crucified,

  669. both Lord

  670. and Messiah,

  671. or Lord

  672. and Christ.

  673. Christ.

  674. It's

  675. sometimes easy

  676. to lose the

  677. significance of

  678. that word,

  679. Christ.

  680. But Christ

  681. and Messiah,

  682. they both

  683. essentially mean

  684. the same thing.

  685. They mean

  686. king.

  687. As in

  688. God's

  689. specially

  690. chosen and

  691. anointed

  692. king.

  693. So what is

  694. Peter saying

  695. here?

  696. He's telling

  697. them that

  698. God has

  699. made this

  700. Jesus of

  701. Nazareth,

  702. the same

  703. one that

  704. you put

  705. to death.

  706. He has

  707. made him

  708. to be

  709. your new

  710. king,

  711. the king

  712. of Israel.

  713. Well,

  714. how does

  715. the crowd

  716. respond to

  717. this?

  718. Verse 37,

  719. when the

  720. people heard

  721. this,

  722. they were

  723. cut to

  724. the heart

  725. and said

  726. to Peter

  727. and the

  728. other

  729. apostles,

  730. brothers,

  731. what shall

  732. we do?

  733. Peter

  734. responds,

  735. repent,

  736. repent,

  737. and be

  738. baptized,

  739. every one

  740. of you

  741. in the

  742. name of

  743. Jesus

  744. Christ

  745. for the

  746. forgiveness

  747. of your

  748. sins,

  749. and you

  750. will receive

  751. the gift

  752. of the

  753. Holy Spirit.

  754. The

  755. promises for

  756. you and

  757. your children

  758. and for

  759. all who

  760. are far

  761. off,

  762. for all

  763. whom the

  764. Lord our

  765. God

  766. will call.

  767. What a

  768. response.

  769. Luke tells

  770. us that the

  771. people there

  772. that day

  773. were cut

  774. to the

  775. heart.

  776. Peter's

  777. words really

  778. sunk in

  779. deep.

  780. Oh,

  781. you mean

  782. he is the

  783. one.

  784. We killed

  785. him.

  786. What have

  787. we done?

  788. What do we

  789. do now?

  790. The guilt

  791. was setting

  792. in.

  793. Peter gives

  794. him two

  795. things to

  796. do.

  797. First,

  798. he says

  799. repent.

  800. And here

  801. it means

  802. acknowledge

  803. what you

  804. have done.

  805. Tell that

  806. to God.

  807. Confess it.

  808. And ask

  809. for his

  810. forgiveness.

  811. Some people

  812. have wondered

  813. why Peter

  814. doesn't just

  815. simply tell

  816. him repent

  817. and believe.

  818. Well,

  819. believing is

  820. already in

  821. the mix

  822. here.

  823. It's

  824. included

  825. here.

  826. You can't

  827. really come

  828. to repent

  829. sincerely in

  830. your heart

  831. and acknowledge

  832. that you've

  833. sinned against

  834. God if you

  835. don't believe.

  836. Believing is

  837. what happened

  838. in that moment

  839. when they were

  840. cut to the

  841. heart.

  842. They believed

  843. what Peter

  844. was saying,

  845. that they

  846. had really

  847. crucified the

  848. king God

  849. had chosen

  850. for them,

  851. that he

  852. really rose

  853. from the

  854. dead,

  855. that he

  856. really had

  857. been exalted

  858. to the right

  859. hand of God.

  860. they already

  861. believed.

  862. Now Peter's

  863. telling them

  864. what else

  865. they need

  866. to do.

  867. Now you

  868. need to

  869. repent.

  870. You need

  871. to acknowledge

  872. what you

  873. did to

  874. God and

  875. ask for

  876. his

  877. forgiveness.

  878. You need

  879. to be

  880. baptized

  881. in the

  882. water,

  883. in the

  884. name of

  885. the Lord,

  886. Jesus.

  887. Jesus.

  888. And I

  889. can tell

  890. you,

  891. in verse

  892. 38,

  893. he says,

  894. for the

  895. forgiveness

  896. of your

  897. sins.

  898. That's

  899. sweet,

  900. isn't it?

  901. Peter's

  902. saying,

  903. if you

  904. repent of

  905. your sins

  906. in Jesus'

  907. name,

  908. God will

  909. forgive you.

  910. Through

  911. Christ,

  912. God will

  913. forgive you.

  914. Can you

  915. imagine how

  916. that must

  917. have felt

  918. maybe to

  919. someone in

  920. the crowd

  921. that day

  922. who was

  923. there shouting,

  924. crucify him.

  925. and then

  926. now has

  927. that

  928. realization.

  929. What have

  930. we done?

  931. God will

  932. forgive you.

  933. Isn't

  934. God a

  935. merciful and

  936. gracious God?

  937. But it

  938. gets even

  939. better than

  940. this.

  941. Forgiveness

  942. is wonderful

  943. and precious,

  944. but God

  945. has more

  946. to give.

  947. Verse

  948. 38,

  949. repent and

  950. be baptized

  951. for the

  952. forgiveness

  953. of your

  954. sins and

  955. you will

  956. receive the

  957. gift of

  958. the Holy

  959. Spirit.

  960. The

  961. promise is

  962. for you

  963. and your

  964. children and

  965. for all who

  966. are far

  967. off, for

  968. all whom

  969. the Lord

  970. our God

  971. will call.

  972. Do you

  973. hear that?

  974. God has a

  975. very special

  976. gift to

  977. give to

  978. those who

  979. repent and

  980. believe and

  981. have their

  982. sins forgiven.

  983. the gift

  984. is his

  985. Holy Spirit.

  986. What is

  987. that?

  988. Well, it

  989. means that

  990. God will

  991. pour out

  992. his Spirit

  993. on you.

  994. It means

  995. that God

  996. will give

  997. of himself

  998. to you.

  999. That he

  1000. himself will

  1001. come to

  1002. be in

  1003. you and

  1004. live with

  1005. you.

  1006. So,

  1007. is this just

  1008. for the

  1009. Jewish people

  1010. of that

  1011. day?

  1012. No.

  1013. It's for

  1014. all whom

  1015. the Lord

  1016. will call,

  1017. says Peter.

  1018. Or we

  1019. look back

  1020. to verse

  1021. 21.

  1022. Everyone who

  1023. calls on the

  1024. name of the

  1025. Lord will

  1026. be saved.

  1027. This gift

  1028. is for

  1029. everyone,

  1030. the gift

  1031. of God's

  1032. Spirit.

  1033. Spirit.

  1034. Most of

  1035. us here

  1036. this morning

  1037. have done

  1038. what Peter

  1039. said,

  1040. have repented,

  1041. have believed

  1042. in the

  1043. Lord Jesus.

  1044. Do you

  1045. know,

  1046. if you

  1047. have,

  1048. that you

  1049. have God's

  1050. Spirit,

  1051. God himself

  1052. living in

  1053. you?

  1054. Isn't

  1055. that amazing?

  1056. we may

  1057. not always

  1058. see or

  1059. feel his

  1060. presence,

  1061. but he

  1062. is there.

  1063. And he

  1064. is the

  1065. one who

  1066. is responsible

  1067. for so

  1068. much of

  1069. the good

  1070. that we

  1071. enjoy as

  1072. Christians.

  1073. The Bible

  1074. tells us

  1075. that he

  1076. produces all

  1077. kinds of

  1078. good things

  1079. in us.

  1080. The fruit

  1081. of the

  1082. Spirit,

  1083. love,

  1084. joy,

  1085. peace,

  1086. patience,

  1087. kindness,

  1088. gentleness,

  1089. faithfulness,

  1090. self-control.

  1091. He guides

  1092. us.

  1093. He helps

  1094. us understand

  1095. what's true.

  1096. The Spirit

  1097. does so

  1098. much for

  1099. us, and

  1100. sometimes I

  1101. wonder if

  1102. we just

  1103. don't take

  1104. it for

  1105. granted.

  1106. He kind

  1107. of works

  1108. behind the

  1109. scenes in

  1110. us,

  1111. invisibly.

  1112. But maybe

  1113. you're here

  1114. and you

  1115. haven't done

  1116. that.

  1117. You haven't

  1118. felt cut

  1119. to the

  1120. heart about

  1121. your sins.

  1122. Maybe you've

  1123. never asked

  1124. God to

  1125. forgive you

  1126. of your

  1127. sins and

  1128. come to

  1129. that moment

  1130. and been

  1131. baptized.

  1132. Do you

  1133. know that

  1134. the gift of

  1135. the Holy

  1136. Spirit is

  1137. for you

  1138. too?

  1139. It's for

  1140. all who

  1141. the Lord

  1142. will call.

  1143. Do you

  1144. hear the

  1145. Lord calling

  1146. you this

  1147. morning?

  1148. Peter encourages

  1149. us to

  1150. call on

  1151. the Lord

  1152. and it's

  1153. an amazing

  1154. gift we

  1155. get.

  1156. Not only

  1157. forgiveness

  1158. of sins,

  1159. but God

  1160. himself to

  1161. come and

  1162. live in

  1163. us and

  1164. with us

  1165. forever.

  1166. And if

  1167. that's how

  1168. it is,

  1169. for those

  1170. who believe,

  1171. this changes

  1172. everything.

  1173. It doesn't

  1174. matter what

  1175. we're going

  1176. through.

  1177. If God

  1178. is with

  1179. us and

  1180. in us,

  1181. it doesn't

  1182. matter what

  1183. we're going

  1184. through.

  1185. It makes

  1186. all the

  1187. difference.

  1188. It tips the

  1189. balance of

  1190. the scales in

  1191. our favor for

  1192. everything.

  1193. it's a

  1194. wonderful gift

  1195. and thanks be

  1196. to God

  1197. for giving

  1198. of himself,

  1199. of his

  1200. spirit.

  1201. Let's

  1202. pray.

  1203. Father in

  1204. heaven, we

  1205. thank you for

  1206. this last

  1207. wonder of

  1208. wonders, gift

  1209. of gifts,

  1210. yourself.

  1211. Thank you

  1212. that we're not

  1213. left on our

  1214. own, that we

  1215. don't just get

  1216. forgiveness and

  1217. then we're on

  1218. our own, but

  1219. that you come

  1220. and live in

  1221. us.

  1222. I pray that we

  1223. would know

  1224. that reality

  1225. as a church.

  1226. I pray that we

  1227. would live in

  1228. that reality,

  1229. that we would

  1230. find strength

  1231. from you by

  1232. your spirit,

  1233. and that you

  1234. would lead us

  1235. in the days

  1236. ahead in this

  1237. world that we

  1238. live in.

  1239. I ask this in

  1240. Jesus' name.

  1241. Amen.

  1242. Amen.

  1243. Amen.

  1244. Amen.

  1245. Amen.

  1246. Amen.

  1247. Amen.

  1248. Amen.

  1249. Amen.

  1250. Amen.

  1251. Amen.

  1252. Amen.

  1253. Amen.

  1254. Amen.

  1255. Amen.
