  1. Well, here we are at the start of another year.

  2. 2022 is here.

  3. 2021 is over.

  4. And as we begin this new year, I want to encourage you

  5. and share with you a little practical wisdom from God's Word.

  6. So my message this morning is going to draw mainly from various Proverbs in the Bible,

  7. and it will be a very practical word.

  8. Let me begin by asking you a question.

  9. Have you taken some time to reflect on 2021?

  10. Some of you might be thinking,

  11. I don't have time to sit down and reflect on last year.

  12. And besides, I'm not sure I want to remember a lot of what happened in the past year.

  13. But I want to encourage you this morning,

  14. taking time to reflect on the past year is wise.

  15. Proverbs 14, verse 8.

    Proverbs 14:8

  16. The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways.

  17. Proverbs 14, verse 15.

    Proverbs 14:15

  18. The prudent give thought to their steps.

  19. Proverbs 21, verse 29.

    Proverbs 21:29

  20. The upright give thought to their ways.

  21. Proverbs 4, verse 26.

    Proverbs 4:26

  22. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet,

  23. and be steadfast in all your ways.

  24. At least these four times,

  25. God speaks through Solomon to tell us

  26. that it is wise,

  27. it is prudent,

  28. to give thought to our ways.

  29. That is, to take time to think about the paths that we have walked,

  30. the decisions that we have made,

  31. the things we have done,

  32. and where those decisions have brought us.

  33. What has been the result of them?

  34. So taking time to reflect on this past year

  35. is not just a helpful idea,

  36. it's much more.

  37. We might even call it a spiritual discipline,

  38. a good habit of grace.

  39. But let's think about why for a moment.

  40. There are some people who go through life

  41. and make the same mistakes

  42. over and over and over again.

  43. They might pause and wonder briefly at times,

  44. why doesn't this work for me?

  45. It seems to work for other people.

  46. There are other people who seem to be successful

  47. in this area of life,

  48. but why not me?

  49. Oh well.

  50. And they just keep on doing what they've always done.

  51. Proverbs 26, verse 11.

    Proverbs 26:11

  52. As a dog returns to its vomit,

  53. so fools repeat their folly.

  54. Think about that.

  55. Have you ever watched a dog do that?

  56. Puke up something on the floor

  57. and then sniff it and lick it,

  58. and then walk away,

  59. and only one minute later,

  60. come back and sniff it and lick it again.

  61. Dogs do that.

  62. It's almost like they're so captivated

  63. by the smell of things

  64. that any intelligence that they have

  65. is just bypassed,

  66. and ooh,

  67. what's that over there?

  68. It's like they completely forgot

  69. that it's there because of them

  70. and that it's no good.

  71. And, says Solomon,

  72. people can be like that too.

  73. We do foolish and stupid things,

  74. and then we do them again,

  75. and again,

  76. and again.

  77. just kind of sniffing our way through life

  78. like a dumb dog

  79. who learns nothing from his experiences

  80. and continues to forget

  81. what he's gone through.

  82. So coming back to 2021,

  83. there are two things that we can do.

  84. One is,

  85. to more or less,

  86. relive it

  87. again,

  88. and again,

  89. and again.

  90. Make the same mistakes.

  91. Do the same dumb things.

  92. Give into the same

  93. mindless sniffings.

  94. Scratch the same recurring itches.

  95. Say yes to the same regular urges.

  96. Or,

  97. we can stop.

  98. We can break the cycle of foolishness

  99. by giving careful thought

  100. to our ways,

  101. to the things that we have done,

  102. the decisions that we have made,

  103. where those decisions brought us,

  104. what has been the result of them,

  105. and what can I learn

  106. from all that I experienced in 2021?

  107. It's only then

  108. that we have the opportunity to change.

  109. To grow.

  110. To become wise.

  111. Prudent.

  112. To become successful in that area of life

  113. that's been a continual struggle

  114. or challenge for us.

  115. And so if you haven't done it yet,

  116. I want to challenge you

  117. to take some time,

  118. whether a morning,

  119. or an afternoon,

  120. or an evening,

  121. whatever works for you,

  122. to just sit down

  123. and quietly reflect

  124. on this past year.

  125. Having your calendar out

  126. can be helpful

  127. to jog your memory

  128. and trigger memories

  129. of what you experienced

  130. this past year.

  131. For some of you,

  132. a paper and pen

  133. might be helpful

  134. to keep you focused

  135. and lessen distractions.

  136. You might try and list out

  137. a few of the wins

  138. of the year

  139. and also a few of the failures.

  140. What are those weaknesses?

  141. Those opportunities

  142. for growth

  143. in your life?

  144. What can you do differently

  145. this year,

  146. 2022,

  147. to grow

  148. in those areas?

  149. And of course,

  150. I would encourage you

  151. to pray about all of this

  152. as you do it.

  153. As I went through

  154. that process again

  155. this past week,

  156. I was reminded

  157. of just how good

  158. God has been to me

  159. and to my family

  160. this past year.

  161. And I was also reminded

  162. of how merciful

  163. and forgiving

  164. and patient

  165. God has been to me

  166. this past year

  167. with all my failures,

  168. sins,

  169. shortcomings,

  170. sins.

  171. So give careful thought

  172. to your ways,

  173. to your steps.

  174. But this doesn't mean

  175. just to reflect

  176. on the ways

  177. and the steps

  178. that we've taken

  179. in the past.

  180. It also means

  181. that we should give

  182. careful thought

  183. to the ways

  184. and steps

  185. that we are about

  186. to take

  187. now

  188. and in the days ahead.

  189. Inevitably,

  190. as you look back

  191. on 2021,

  192. you'll remember

  193. and you'll see things,

  194. steps that you've done

  195. that you wish

  196. you hadn't,

  197. things that you said

  198. that you wish

  199. you didn't,

  200. ways you went down

  201. that you wish

  202. you could go back on.

  203. And for those things,

  204. praise God

  205. for his grace

  206. and for his forgiveness

  207. through Jesus,

  208. our Lord.

  209. But now,

  210. this is a new year.

  211. This year

  212. will be full

  213. of new decisions

  214. to make,

  215. new opportunities

  216. to do things

  217. differently

  218. and better.

  219. You'll have opportunities

  220. to get off

  221. some of those

  222. old,

  223. tired,

  224. and well-worn paths

  225. that have been

  226. getting you nowhere

  227. and instead

  228. to cut some new trails,

  229. trails that by God's grace

  230. may take you

  231. where you really want

  232. to go

  233. with your life

  234. and where he

  235. wants you to go

  236. with your life.

  237. But to make

  238. those changes,

  239. you first need

  240. to stop

  241. and give careful

  242. thought

  243. to your ways,

  244. to the steps

  245. that you will take

  246. today

  247. and tomorrow

  248. and in the weeks

  249. and months ahead.

  250. And so,

  251. I want to encourage you

  252. to set some goals

  253. for 2022.

  254. There's more than one way

  255. that you could do this.

  256. You could write down

  257. a handful of goals

  258. for the whole year

  259. on a page

  260. or you could sit down

  261. and write out a few goals

  262. for each month

  263. as it begins.

  264. Some of you might be thinking,

  265. goals?

  266. Who does that?

  267. Goals are for CEOs

  268. and people who take life

  269. too seriously.

  270. I don't need goals.

  271. And I used to think

  272. like that myself.

  273. I'll just kind of do

  274. and feel my way

  275. through each day

  276. as it comes.

  277. But that's not really

  278. giving careful thought

  279. to your ways.

  280. That's called

  281. flying by the seat

  282. of your pants.

  283. And eventually

  284. that merry-go-round

  285. gets tiresome

  286. and you realize

  287. that you're getting nowhere

  288. with many of the things

  289. that are most important

  290. in life.

  291. One of my favorite quotes

  292. that's not from the Bible

  293. is,

  294. if you aim at nothing,

  295. you will hit it

  296. every time.

  297. And it's true.

  298. Goals

  299. lead to habits.

  300. Little decisions

  301. that we make

  302. about how we spend

  303. our time

  304. every day

  305. and every week.

  306. Habits

  307. like those

  308. lead to progress

  309. in whatever

  310. we're aiming at.

  311. Do you want

  312. to make progress

  313. in 2022?

  314. Do you want

  315. to grow

  316. in 2022?

  317. Or do you want

  318. to fritter away

  319. half the year

  320. scrolling through

  321. news

  322. and social media,

  323. watching TV,

  324. playing games?

  325. the wisdom

  326. of the prudent

  327. is to give thought

  328. to their ways.

  329. And so set some goals

  330. for this year.

  331. And I want to encourage you

  332. to set at least

  333. one goal

  334. that's not a work project,

  335. but a character

  336. growth

  337. kind of goal.

  338. as you look

  339. back on 2021,

  340. what did your

  341. decisions reveal

  342. about your character?

  343. What character

  344. quality

  345. would you like

  346. to grow most in

  347. in this coming year?

  348. Make that a matter

  349. of prayer

  350. and focus on it

  351. this year.

  352. It may lead you

  353. to listen

  354. a little differently

  355. as you read

  356. through your Bible

  357. again this year.

  358. It may lead you

  359. to seek out

  360. the wisdom

  361. of those who

  362. have that quality

  363. and maybe even

  364. make some much

  365. needed changes

  366. in your life.

  367. As we think

  368. about goals,

  369. we must also

  370. admit that it's

  371. possible to have

  372. a whole page

  373. full of goals

  374. and to accomplish

  375. every single

  376. one of them

  377. by the end

  378. of the year

  379. and yet have

  380. wasted the entire

  381. year.

  382. Goals only

  383. get you

  384. somewhere good

  385. if they are

  386. worthy goals.

  387. Solomon's not

  388. just telling us

  389. to be intentional

  390. here,

  391. but to be wise,

  392. to give careful

  393. thought to our

  394. ways and steps

  395. so that we

  396. take the ways

  397. and steps

  398. that are good,

  399. that are right,

  400. that are most

  401. beneficial,

  402. that are most

  403. important in life.

  404. life.

  405. And our goals

  406. should reflect

  407. what's most

  408. important in life.

  409. Leaving Solomon

  410. for a moment

  411. and going to

  412. Moses,

  413. Psalm 90,

    Psalms 90:12

  414. verse 12,

  415. a psalm of

  416. Moses in which

  417. he prays to the

  418. Lord, he prays

  419. this,

  420. teach us to

  421. number our

  422. days that we

  423. may gain a

  424. heart of wisdom.

  425. wisdom.

  426. I love these

  427. words.

  428. First of all,

  429. a heart of

  430. wisdom.

  431. It's one thing

  432. to have a

  433. wise mind.

  434. It's one thing

  435. to know in

  436. every situation

  437. what you ought

  438. to do,

  439. what you should

  440. do,

  441. but it's another

  442. thing to have a

  443. heart of wisdom,

  444. to deep down

  445. love to do

  446. what is best

  447. and desire to

  448. do what is

  449. good.

  450. for most of

  451. you,

  452. these things I'm

  453. sharing with you

  454. this morning,

  455. I'm sure you've

  456. heard these before,

  457. you've already

  458. got that wisdom

  459. in your head,

  460. but have you

  461. got it in your

  462. heart?

  463. Is it in your

  464. heart to do

  465. these things,

  466. to live wisely

  467. and productively

  468. in this next

  469. year,

  470. to accomplish

  471. much that is

  472. good and

  473. right for the

  474. glory of Jesus

  475. this year?

  476. you might

  477. wonder,

  478. well,

  479. how do I

  480. get wisdom

  481. not just in

  482. my head,

  483. but in my

  484. heart?

  485. And God

  486. tells us here

  487. through Moses'

  488. prayer how it

  489. can work.

  490. He says,

  491. Moses prays,

  492. teach us to

  493. number our

  494. days,

  495. that,

  496. so that we

  497. may gain a

  498. heart of

  499. wisdom.

  500. So it is

  501. possible to

  502. gain a

  503. heart of

  504. wisdom.

  505. wisdom.

  506. How does

  507. it work?

  508. By learning

  509. from the

  510. Lord to

  511. number our

  512. days.

  513. It is

  514. possible to

  515. break the

  516. cycle of

  517. going back

  518. to sniffing

  519. and licking

  520. at your own

  521. vomit,

  522. to gain a

  523. heart of

  524. wisdom,

  525. to stop being

  526. a fool,

  527. to stop doing

  528. the same

  529. stupid things

  530. that we do

  531. over and

  532. over again.

  533. and it

  534. comes by

  535. learning to

  536. number our

  537. days.

  538. For some

  539. people it

  540. takes a

  541. terminal

  542. illness to

  543. bring them

  544. to the

  545. place where

  546. they finally

  547. realize that

  548. every single

  549. day is a

  550. precious gift

  551. from God

  552. and that

  553. they've

  554. wasted many

  555. of them.

  556. think about

  557. your life.

  558. Each new

  559. day is part

  560. of a

  561. limited edition

  562. series that

  563. will soon

  564. come to an

  565. end, both

  566. for you and

  567. for me.

  568. 2021 is a

  569. good example

  570. of this.

  571. It's already

  572. been spent.

  573. It's done.

  574. Your 2021,

  575. my 2021,

  576. is written

  577. in the

  578. history books

  579. of heaven

  580. and it

  581. cannot be

  582. changed.

  583. Teach us

  584. to number

  585. our days.

  586. Already

  587. today,

  588. there are

  589. only 363

  590. days left

  591. until 2023.

  592. there are

  593. only 29

  594. and a half

  595. days left

  596. until we

  597. start February

  598. again.

  599. Blink

  600. and it'll

  601. be spring.

  602. Blink

  603. again and

  604. harvest will

  605. be drawing

  606. to a close.

  607. Before you

  608. know it,

  609. we'll be back

  610. here again

  611. saying the

  612. same kinds

  613. of things

  614. about 2023.

  615. But here's

  616. the kicker.

  617. None of us

  618. truly knows

  619. just how many

  620. days we have

  621. left.

  622. And we'd

  623. be fools

  624. to assume

  625. that we all

  626. will live

  627. to the

  628. ripe old

  629. age of

  630. 96.

  631. Let's not

  632. forget also

  633. that health

  634. and strength

  635. often start

  636. going downhill

  637. even decades

  638. sometimes

  639. before we

  640. get to 96.

  641. You might

  642. think,

  643. well,

  644. I'll give

  645. more of my

  646. time and

  647. attention to

  648. those things

  649. that are

  650. important

  651. later.

  652. When I'm

  653. a little bit

  654. older,

  655. when I've

  656. got more

  657. time for

  658. them.

  659. but when

  660. you get

  661. to older,

  662. you might

  663. not have

  664. the health,

  665. the strength,

  666. the mind

  667. to do

  668. those things

  669. anymore.

  670. Truly,

  671. God could

  672. take any

  673. one of us

  674. out of this

  675. world any

  676. day.

  677. It could

  678. happen by a

  679. tragic accident

  680. or by

  681. critical organ

  682. failure,

  683. you name it.

  684. we are

  685. fools to

  686. presume that

  687. God will

  688. give us

  689. more time

  690. down the

  691. road to

  692. do the

  693. most important

  694. things in

  695. life,

  696. the things

  697. that he's

  698. called us

  699. to do

  700. today.

  701. It's only

  702. when we

  703. learn to

  704. number our

  705. days that

  706. we realize

  707. what is

  708. most important

  709. in life.

  710. Not how

  711. much money

  712. is in our

  713. bank accounts

  714. or how

  715. nice to

  716. houses or

  717. the vehicles,

  718. not what

  719. level our

  720. video game

  721. character is,

  722. not what

  723. the best

  724. golf score

  725. was or

  726. whether we

  727. won or

  728. lost the

  729. sports games

  730. that we

  731. played.

  732. It's only

  733. when we

  734. come to

  735. see that

  736. our days

  737. are running

  738. out that

  739. we realize

  740. what is

  741. most important

  742. in life

  743. and it's

  744. then that

  745. we begin

  746. to set

  747. worthy

  748. goals of

  749. what we

  750. might do

  751. with the

  752. days that

  753. we have.

  754. goals that

  755. lead to

  756. habits that

  757. take us

  758. where we

  759. really want

  760. to go in

  761. life and

  762. where the

  763. Lord wants

  764. us to go

  765. in life so

  766. that we can

  767. look back on

  768. 2022 in

  769. years time and

  770. say thank you

  771. Lord for all

  772. the worthwhile

  773. things that you

  774. enabled me to

  775. accomplish this

  776. past year.

  777. back to

  778. Moses for a

  779. second.

  780. There's

  781. something

  782. humbling

  783. here.

  784. It's in the

  785. way Moses

  786. says it.

  787. He doesn't

  788. say thank you

  789. Lord that you

  790. have taught me

  791. the lesson of

  792. how to number

  793. my days and

  794. that you have

  795. given me a

  796. heart of

  797. wisdom as

  798. if he's

  799. already figured

  800. this out as

  801. if he's

  802. already got a

  803. heart of

  804. wisdom.

  805. him.

  806. No.

  807. Moses dare I

  808. say is even

  809. humbler than

  810. we are.

  811. He includes

  812. himself in the

  813. prayer.

  814. Teach us

  815. including me

  816. says Moses to

  817. number my

  818. days so that

  819. I may gain a

  820. heart of

  821. wisdom.

  822. I don't know

  823. when he wrote

  824. this or how

  825. old he was or

  826. what had

  827. happened in

  828. his life but

  829. there came that

  830. time when

  831. Moses admitted

  832. to the Lord

  833. that he had

  834. need for

  835. wisdom in

  836. his heart.

  837. That he had

  838. need for the

  839. Lord to show

  840. him what the

  841. span of his

  842. life really

  843. was so that

  844. he could live

  845. more wisely.

  846. Will you make

  847. that your

  848. prayer this

  849. year?

  850. Teach me

  851. Lord to

  852. number my

  853. days so that

  854. I may gain a

  855. heart of

  856. wisdom.

  857. I wonder

  858. what you're

  859. thinking right

  860. now as you

  861. hear all this.

  862. Reflect on

  863. 2021.

  864. Set goals for

  865. 2022.

  866. Well I know

  867. that's right.

  868. I know that's

  869. good.

  870. But

  871. Proverbs 22

    Proverbs 22:13

  872. verse 13

  873. the sluggard

  874. says there's a

  875. lion outside

  876. I'll be killed

  877. in the public

  878. square.

  879. 26 verse 13

  880. a sluggard

  881. says there's a

  882. lion in the

  883. road a fierce

  884. lion roaming the

  885. streets.

  886. Well I would

  887. get out and

  888. work but I

  889. can't.

  890. It's not

  891. safe.

  892. Excuses.

  893. Now this might

  894. sound a little

  895. strange to us.

  896. I mean if there

  897. actually was a

  898. lion roaming the

  899. streets it would

  900. be prudent not to

  901. go there and put

  902. ourselves in danger.

  903. We wouldn't

  904. typically call such

  905. a person a

  906. sluggard or

  907. lazy.

  908. So is there

  909. really a lion out

  910. in the streets

  911. or is maybe this

  912. person more like

  913. Chicken Little?

  914. The sky is

  915. falling.

  916. There's a lion out

  917. in the streets.

  918. Or maybe like the

  919. boy who cried wolf.

  920. There's a lion.

  921. Look at me.

  922. Give to me.

  923. I can't work.

  924. I don't know.

  925. Whether there's a

  926. lion or not.

  927. I don't know.

  928. But the point I

  929. think Solomon is

  930. making is that the

  931. lazy person makes

  932. excuses.

  933. He doesn't get to

  934. work.

  935. I would do that.

  936. But there's a lion

  937. outside.

  938. I wonder what some

  939. of our excuses might

  940. be today.

  941. I would take some

  942. time to reflect and

  943. to set goals for this

  944. coming year.

  945. I know that's good.

  946. I know that's what I

  947. should do.

  948. But I haven't got

  949. time.

  950. I'm too busy.

  951. I would do it.

  952. But I've got all

  953. these kids to look

  954. after.

  955. And they need my

  956. attention constantly.

  957. I would do it.

  958. But with all the

  959. cold weather that

  960. we've been having and

  961. the short days, the

  962. lack of sunshine, I

  963. just have no energy.

  964. I won't be able to

  965. concentrate.

  966. I would do it.

  967. But how can I make

  968. goals when there's

  969. COVID in the streets?

  970. Or when COVID

  971. regulations are

  972. constantly changing?

  973. What if something

  974. changes and I'm not

  975. even able to make

  976. my goal?

  977. Maybe I shouldn't

  978. set any goals in the

  979. first place.

  980. Excuses.

  981. Let me be blunt and

  982. frank.

  983. Let's not deceive

  984. ourselves with

  985. excuses.

  986. Let's not comfort

  987. ourselves with

  988. excuses in this

  989. next year.

  990. If you can't make

  991. the time for the

  992. things that are most

  993. important in life,

  994. if you can't make

  995. time for the things

  996. that are wise in

  997. life, then you are

  998. a fool.

  999. fool.

1000. And you will suffer the

1001. fate of fools and you

  1002. will repeat your

  1003. folly again and

1004. again and again as a

  1005. dog returns to its

  1006. vomit.

  1007. You'll be like the

  1008. lumberjack who says,

  1009. I can't stop even for a

  1010. moment to sharpen my

  1011. axe.

  1012. I know it's getting

  1013. duller, but I've just

1014. got too many trees to

  1015. chop.

1016. Or you'll be like the

  1017. motorist who refuses to

1018. pull over and check the

  1019. map.

  1020. Got to keep moving.

  1021. I'll find my way.

1022. As long as I'm moving,

  1023. I'll get there fast.

1024. And yet, what if you're

  1025. driving in the wrong

  1026. direction?

1027. No, we must not make

  1028. excuses.

1029. We must not put off

  1030. prayerful reflection and

  1031. planning.

  1032. We must give careful

  1033. thought to our ways,

  1034. past ways, present ways,

  1035. and future ways.

1036. We must pray like Moses

1037. did and ask the Lord to

1038. teach us to number our

1039. days and to give us that

  1040. heart of wisdom.

1041. In the great race of life,

1042. we might look around and

1043. see all the hairs bouncing

1044. around here and there at

  1045. breakneck speed.

1046. And we might fear that if

1047. we don't just join in with

1048. them, we're going to miss

  1049. out.

1050. We won't be able to keep

  1051. up.

  1052. I won't be able to keep

1053. up if I take time to stop

1054. and pray or to reflect or

  1055. to set goals.

1056. I'll be like the turtle in

1057. the great race of life.

1058. But who wins the race in

  1059. the end?

  1060. The hair.

  1061. Or the tortoise.

  1062. James chapter 3, verse 13.

    James 3:13

  1063. Who is wise and

  1064. understanding among you?

1065. Let them show it by their

  1066. good life.

1067. By deeds done in the

  1068. humility that comes from

  1069. wisdom.

1070. What good will you aim to

  1071. do with God's help in 2022?

1072. What deeds will be done by

1073. your hands in this coming

  1074. year?

  1075. Ephesians 2, verse 10.

    Ephesians 2:10

1076. For we are God's handiwork

1077. created in Christ Jesus to do

1078. good works which God prepared in

1079. advance for us to do.

1080. Let me remind you and

  1081. encourage you this morning.

1082. At the start of the year,

1083. God has it in his mind and

1084. even in his plan for you to do

1085. good work for him this year.

1086. God has it in his life.

1087. God has it in his life.

1088. God has it in his life.

1089. So let's not, as we often say,

  1090. take it easy.

  1091. Let's not say, don't work too

  1092. hard.

  1093. Let's not say, there's COVID out

  1094. there, I can't.

  1095. Let's not say, let's not

1096. let's instead say to one

  1097. another, brother, sister, your

  1098. days are numbered.

1099. Look, man, Jesus is coming back

  1100. soon.

1101. Who then is the faithful and

1102. wise servant whom the master

1103. has put in charge of the

1104. servants in his household to

1105. give them their food at the

  1106. proper time?

1107. It will be good for that

1108. servant whose master finds him

1109. doing so when he returns.

1110. I don't know who said it, but

1111. my mind often goes back to this

  1112. quote.

1113. Only one life will soon be

1114. passed and only what's done for

  1115. Christ will last.

1116. And so may God fill us with his

1117. spirit and give us power and

1118. grace and wisdom and love for a

  1119. fruitful and productive year.

1120. year for his glory and for the

1121. good of the people all around

  1122. us.

  1123. Let's pray.

1124. Father in heaven, thank you for

  1125. the gift of life.

1126. Thank you for all the precious

1127. moments that we've had over the

  1128. past year.

  1129. Sweet moments of relationship.

1130. Thank you for even the challenges

1131. and the trials that you used in

1132. our life to strengthen us, to

1133. deepen our faith, to grow us in

  1134. our character.

1135. Thank you that you love us enough

1136. to let us go through hardship at

  1137. times.

1138. Only you know, Lord, what 2022

1139. holds for us as individuals and as a

1140. church, but we commit the year to you, Lord. We pray and ask that you would have your hand on us

1141. and bless this year for each one of us.

1142. We ask that you would lead us to make good decisions, wise plans,

1143. and to succeed in those things that are pleasing to you one day at a time.

1144. We ask this in Jesus' name and for his honor. Amen.
