  1. Well, this morning as we come to the Word of God, we're picking up where we left off last week.

  2. John chapter 13, verse 31.

    John 13:31

  3. If you have a Bible, you're welcome to turn to it.

  4. Jesus is in the upper room with his disciples, and they're eating the Passover meal.

  5. Jesus has just dipped the bread and given it to Judas,

  6. and now Judas has left the house, and it's night.

  7. And we'll pick it up in verse 31 here.

  8. When he, that's Judas, was gone, Jesus said,

  9. Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.

  10. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself,

  11. and will glorify him at once.

  12. My children, I will be with you only a little longer.

  13. Let's start by noticing the urgency, the immediacy of what Jesus is saying.

  14. Now the Son of Man is glorified,

  15. and God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.

  16. I will be with you only a little longer.

  17. Can you hear the urgency in Jesus' voice?

  18. With Judas now on his way, and the betrayal now in motion,

  19. Jesus' time is virtually here.

  20. It's a matter of just hours before Jesus is arrested and separated from them.

  21. And Jesus wants them to know that this is it.

  22. My time with all of you is about to come to an end.

  23. It's interesting, the language that Jesus chooses to describe this time that has now come.

  24. He says,

  25. Now is the time for the Son of Man to be glorified.

  26. We heard Jesus say this a little earlier when the Greeks showed up for a visit back in chapter 12, verse 23.

  27. And even hearing it again,

  28. it's a strange and unexpected way to describe what's about to happen to Jesus, isn't it?

  29. We just don't usually think of what Jesus is about to go through as being glorified.

  30. Being glorified means being honored, being worshipped, being exalted, being lifted up.

  31. But what's about to happen to Jesus seems the very opposite.

  32. He's about to be shamed, humiliated, cursed, mocked, beaten, and trampled down.

  33. So we're kind of forced to wrestle with this question.

  34. How is Jesus being glorified while he suffers and dies in this horrible manner?

  35. And then without answering this, Jesus adds even more to the discussion.

  36. Not only is the Son of Man about to be glorified, but he says God is about to be glorified as well.

  37. Both.

  38. And as we read this verse, it's kind of easy to get our heads all tangled up in this

  39. and to wonder who's getting glorified and by who and how.

  40. The Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him.

  41. If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself and will glorify him at once.

  42. There's a lot of stuff going on in there.

  43. And it's easy to get tripped up in there.

  44. So let's see if we can just pick out some clear statements and untangle this a little bit.

  45. Here are five true statements that we can pull out of this.

  46. First of all, the Son of Man, that's Jesus, is about to be glorified.

  47. Now the Son of Man is glorified.

  48. Second one, God is about to be glorified as well.

  49. It's both.

  50. Number three, God will be glorified in the Son or through the Son or by the Son.

  51. Number four, Jesus will be glorified by God.

  52. It's God who will be glorifying the Son in the moments ahead.

  53. And then finally, number five, God will glorify Jesus in himself.

  54. I know you're probably wondering, well, what does that mean?

  55. Me too.

  56. So who's about to be glorified?

  57. We'll just see if we can kind of summarize it.

  58. Both Jesus and God are about to be glorified.

  59. Who's going to be doing the glorifying?

  60. God is about to glorify his Son.

  61. And lastly, how are God and Jesus being glorified?

  62. Well, God is about to be glorified by Jesus or through Jesus.

  63. And Jesus is about to be glorified by God.

  64. God is about to be glorified by God.

  65. And in God, whatever that means.

  66. You know, sometimes Jesus said things that just kind of leave us scratching our heads.

  67. And I thought about trying to do a whole sermon just on these verses

  68. and exploring each of these five statements and what they mean.

  69. But you know, this is just the way that God's truth has come to us in this place,

  70. in this part of the story.

  71. And think about how it was for the disciples that evening,

  72. seated around the table, as Jesus says this to them.

  73. You're about to be glorified and God's about to be glorified and in him and in you.

  74. And what are you talking about?

  75. What does this mean?

  76. Now, we could dig out the theology textbooks and we could listen to the mind-numbing musings of men

  77. going back and forth about all the possible meanings of these five statements

  78. and try to rule out a whole bunch of them and narrow it down.

  79. About how God is glorified in the Son and how does God glorify Jesus in himself.

  80. But sometimes I think it's okay if we simply say,

  81. I don't know what this means.

  82. What did you mean by this, Lord Jesus?

  83. And then just sit on it a while.

  84. We might have some good ideas about, say, number one,

  85. how Jesus is about to be glorified as he suffers and dies.

  86. But then where do we get those ideas from?

  87. Are we just guessing?

  88. Or are we meant to just take Jesus at his word as best as we can

  89. and say, okay, somehow, in some way, I'm not sure exactly how or what you mean.

  90. Jesus, you're about to be glorified in what's about to unfold.

  91. Would you show me how that works?

  92. Would you show me what you mean by that?

  93. And then just kind of keep that truth in the back of our minds

  94. as we continue reading and meditating on the word of God,

  95. day after day, week after week, month after month,

  96. and sometimes, eventually, these things become really clear.

  97. In fact, we may even realize that this is a major theme in the whole Bible.

  98. Let's consider briefly this first point,

  99. that Jesus is about to be glorified now

  100. while he suffers and dies in this horrible manner.

  101. So we say, okay, I don't see it, Lord.

  102. Would you show me?

  103. And then maybe as we come along,

  104. reading in our Bibles in a different place,

  105. or we're looking up a scripture passage,

  106. we come along to Isaiah chapter 52,

    Isaiah 52 chapter mention

  107. written hundreds of years before any of this took place.

  108. And we read these words in Isaiah chapter 52, verse 13.

    Isaiah 52:13

  109. See, my servant will act wisely.

  110. He will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.

  111. Sounds like glorified.

  112. But then, just as there were many who were appalled at him,

  113. his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being

  114. and his form marred beyond human likeness,

  115. so he will sprinkle many nations

  116. and kings will shut their mouths because of him.

  117. For what they were not told, they will see.

  118. And what they have not heard, they will understand.

  119. And Isaiah goes on.

  120. He was despised and rejected by mankind.

  121. A man of suffering and familiar with pain.

  122. Like one from whom people hide their faces,

  123. he was despised and we held him in low esteem.

  124. He was oppressed and afflicted.

  125. Led like a lamb to the slaughter.

  126. By oppression and judgment, he was taken away.

  127. But then we come to verse 10.

  128. Yet, it was the Lord's will to crush him

  129. and cause him to suffer.

  130. And though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,

  131. he will see his offspring and prolong his days.

  132. And the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.

  133. After he has suffered, he will see the light of life

  134. and be satisfied.

  135. By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many

  136. and he will bear their iniquities.

  137. Therefore, I will give him a portion among the great,

  138. says the Lord.

  139. And he will divide the spoils with the strong

  140. because he poured out his life unto death

  141. and was numbered with the transgressors.

  142. Now, this whole passage could do with a lot of study

  143. and meditation and a few sermons.

  144. But do you notice how side by side are these two truths?

  145. That the servant of the Lord will suffer horribly,

  146. be treated despicably,

  147. and yet at the same time that the servant of the Lord

  148. will be raised and lifted up

  149. and highly exalted,

  150. rewarded,

  151. glorified

  152. through it all.

  153. These are deep waters here,

  154. but not so deep that we could never learn to swim in them.

  155. This is just one other place

  156. where it tells us that Jesus will be glorified

  157. and exalted

  158. through the shameful humiliation

  159. of what he suffered.

  160. This is just one other place

  161. where it tells us that

  162. God will himself glorify this one

  163. and set him above others.

  164. And a little bit of why.

  165. What he has done that is worthy of reward,

  166. that is worthy of being glorified.

  167. Because he poured out his life unto death

  168. and was numbered with the transgressors

  169. and bore the sin of many

  170. and made intercession for them.

  171. And so as we meditate here,

  172. this passage,

  173. it begins to fill up

  174. with meaning

  175. what Jesus said

  176. on the night of his betrayal.

  177. What he said about being glorified now.

  178. And then there are other passages

  179. that we might discover

  180. over here and over there

  181. and over here and over there.

  182. that also fill up

  183. what Jesus said with meaning.

  184. Not just for number one,

  185. but for all five of these.

  186. Could it be that we were never meant

  187. to have a guy just come up

  188. and stand in front of us

  189. and say,

  190. well,

  191. number one means this,

  192. number two means this,

  193. number three means this,

  194. and so on.

  195. Could it be that we were all meant

  196. to go on the personal journey

  197. of searching these things out

  198. over days,

  199. weeks,

  200. months,

  201. even years?

  202. Growing in our understanding

  203. of who Jesus is

  204. and what happened to him

  205. at the cross.

  206. Growing in our understanding

  207. of what's really going on

  208. between God the Father

  209. and God the Son.

  210. Growing in our understanding

  211. of how great

  212. and how worthy

  213. and how glorious

  214. and beautiful

  215. our God

  216. and his Son Jesus

  217. really are.

  218. I think Jesus

  219. is okay

  220. with us being

  221. on the journey.

  222. He's okay

  223. with us learning

  224. all along the way

  225. as we go through

  226. our lives.

  227. So I'm not going to try

  228. and fully explain

  229. and apply each

  230. of these five truths

  231. because to be honest,

  232. I'm still on the journey

  233. myself trying to figure out

  234. what exactly

  235. these things mean

  236. and how this fits

  237. with what we're about

  238. to read

  239. in the story of John.

  240. For now,

  241. I think it's a good place

  242. just to be familiar

  243. with what Jesus said.

  244. Jesus is about

  245. to be glorified

  246. as he is betrayed,

  247. arrested,

  248. and goes to the cross.

  249. God is about

  250. to be glorified.

  251. God will be glorified

  252. through the Son,

  253. in the Son.

  254. Jesus will be glorified

  255. by God,

  256. his Father.

  257. And God will glorify

  258. Jesus

  259. in himself.

  260. Now let's continue

  261. on with what Jesus

  262. said that night

  263. at the table.

  264. Verse 33,

  265. my children,

  266. I will be with you

  267. only a little longer.

  268. You will look for me

  269. and just as I told

  270. the Jews,

  271. so I tell you now

  272. where I am going.

  273. You cannot come.

  274. So Jesus tells them

  275. that they're very soon

  276. to be separated.

  277. Jesus and his disciples

  278. parted from each other.

  279. And though they have

  280. followed him everywhere

  281. for the past three years,

  282. they will not be able

  283. to follow him this time.

  284. Where I am going,

  285. you cannot come,

  286. says Jesus.

  287. Jesus reminds them

  288. about how he said

  289. these very words

  290. to the Jews

  291. back in chapter 7,

  292. verse 34,

  293. and chapter 8,

  294. verse 21.

  295. Where I am going,

  296. you cannot come.

  297. And then Jesus

  298. gives them a command,

  299. which we will look

  300. at more next week.

  301. I'll just read it

  302. this morning.

  303. A new command

  304. I give you.

  305. Love one another

  306. as I have loved you.

  307. So you must love

  308. one another.

  309. By this,

  310. everyone will know

  311. that you are my disciples

  312. if you love

  313. one another.

  314. Verse 36,

  315. Peter says,

  316. Lord,

  317. where are you going?

  318. I love that.

  319. It's almost as if

  320. he just completely

  321. missed the command.

  322. He's still thinking

  323. about what Jesus

  324. said before that.

  325. Where I am going,

  326. you cannot come.

  327. That's the track

  328. that Peter's on.

  329. Lord,

  330. where are you going?

  331. I think that the

  332. disciples are probably

  333. doing their best

  334. to follow along

  335. and to understand

  336. what Jesus is saying,

  337. but here we just,

  338. it's obvious

  339. that even Peter

  340. did not understand

  341. what was coming

  342. or where Jesus

  343. was about to go.

  344. And so Jesus

  345. says it again

  346. to Peter.

  347. He says,

  348. where I am going,

  349. you cannot follow

  350. now,

  351. but you will

  352. follow later.

  353. And Jesus

  354. is being somewhat

  355. elusive in his answer.

  356. It's a place

  357. that you can't

  358. follow me to

  359. right now,

  360. but you will

  361. eventually.

  362. Peter asked,

  363. verse 37,

  364. Lord,

  365. why can't I

  366. follow you now?

  367. I will lay down

  368. my life for you.

  369. Is it death

  370. that you're talking

  371. about,

  372. Jesus?

  373. That's the only

  374. place I can think

  375. of that I wouldn't

  376. be able to follow

  377. you.

  378. And if it's death

  379. you're talking

  380. about,

  381. then,

  382. my Lord,

  383. I will lay

  384. down my life

  385. before I let

  386. anybody touch

  387. yours.

  388. I will die

  389. with you

  390. if I have

  391. to.

  392. I will go

  393. with you

  394. to the realm

  395. of the dead.

  396. I will follow

  397. you there too,

  398. says Peter.

  399. Then comes

  400. Jesus' reply

  401. again,

  402. verse 38.

  403. Will you

  404. really lay

  405. down your

  406. life for me?

  407. Very truly,

  408. I tell you,

  409. before the

  410. rooster crows,

  411. you will

  412. disown me

  413. three times.

  414. The answer

  415. of Jesus

  416. here to

  417. Peter is

  418. truly

  419. amazing.

  420. First,

  421. we hear

  422. Jesus ask

  423. a question.

  424. Will you

  425. really lay

  426. down your

  427. life for

  428. me,

  429. Peter?

  430. It's as

  431. though Jesus

  432. is challenging

  433. Peter's

  434. declaration.

  435. But actually,

  436. it's more

  437. than just a

  438. challenge,

  439. because it

  440. doesn't seem

  441. like Jesus

  442. is asking

  443. to know

  444. if Peter's

  445. really sincere,

  446. or if Peter

  447. really means

  448. it,

  449. or if Peter

  450. would actually

  451. follow through

  452. with it all

  453. the way to

  454. death.

  455. The truth

  456. is,

  457. Jesus already

  458. knows the

  459. answer.

  460. Right after,

  461. he says,

  462. very truly,

  463. I tell you,

  464. before the

  465. rooster crows,

  466. you will

  467. disown me

  468. three times.

  469. So no,

  470. it's not

  471. really a

  472. question as

  473. if Jesus

  474. doesn't know

  475. the answer.

  476. It's a

  477. rhetorical

  478. question,

  479. and it

  480. makes a

  481. statement,

  482. perhaps more

  483. like,

  484. Peter,

  485. will you

  486. really lay

  487. down your

  488. life for

  489. me?

  490. Answer,

  491. no,

  492. Peter,

  493. you won't.

  494. Jesus is

  495. exposing what's

  496. really in the

  497. heart of

  498. Peter.

  499. And then,

  500. Jesus tells

  501. Peter how it

  502. will actually

  503. go,

  504. what Peter

  505. will actually

  506. do when the

  507. moment of

  508. truth comes.

  509. Three times,

  510. he will deny

  511. him.

  512. And it's

  513. here again

  514. that we see

  515. something truly

  516. wonderful and

  517. amazing about

  518. Jesus.

  519. Here's a

  520. man,

  521. Jesus,

  522. who frequently

  523. told people

  524. what was in

  525. their own

  526. hearts as if

  527. he knew it

  528. better than

  529. they did.

  530. I mean,

  531. think about

  532. this.

  533. From Peter's

  534. perspective,

  535. you're telling

  536. me how

  537. how sincere

  538. I am,

  539. whether I

  540. will or

  541. will not

  542. lay down

  543. my life

  544. for you.

  545. Jesus did

  546. this a lot.

  547. He told

  548. people what

  549. was in

  550. their own

  551. hearts as

  552. if he knew

  553. it even

  554. better than

  555. they did.

  556. He did it in

  557. Jerusalem on

  558. his first

  559. ministry visit

  560. to the

  561. capital city

  562. back in

  563. chapter 2.

  564. He did it

  565. with Lazarus

  566. in chapter 3.

  567. He did it

  568. with the crowds

  569. in chapters 4

  570. and 6.

  571. He did it

  572. with the

  573. religious leaders

  574. in chapters 5

  575. and 8.

  576. And here

  577. he does it

  578. with Peter,

  579. his own

  580. disciple.

  581. Peter,

  582. will you

  583. really lay

  584. down your

  585. life for

  586. me?

  587. No,

  588. Peter,

  589. you won't.

  590. You say

  591. that now,

  592. but it's

  593. not true.

  594. When the

  595. time comes,

  596. when the

  597. rubber hits

  598. the road,

  599. when it

  600. counts,

  601. when you

  602. have the

  603. opportunity

  604. to put

  605. your life

  606. on the

  607. line with

  608. me,

  609. you will

  610. instead say

  611. that you

  612. don't even

  613. know me.

  614. Three times

  615. you will do

  616. this before

  617. this very

  618. night is

  619. through.

  620. And so I

  621. imagine that

  622. there was

  623. sadness in

  624. the heart

  625. of Jesus,

  626. even as he

  627. said this

  628. to Peter.

  629. There was

  630. Judas'

  631. betrayal,

  632. which troubled

  633. Jesus deeply.

  634. We heard

  635. about last

  636. Sunday,

  637. but then

  638. here there

  639. is very

  640. soon coming

  641. Peter's

  642. denial of

  643. Jesus.

  644. I've said

  645. this a lot,

  646. but I want

  647. to say it

  648. again.

  649. Do you

  650. know that

  651. Jesus knows

  652. what's in

  653. your heart?

  654. What's

  655. really in

  656. your heart?

  657. You can't

  658. fool him.

  659. you can't

  660. even pretend

  661. with him.

  662. He knows

  663. you even

  664. better than

  665. you know

  666. yourself.

  667. He knows

  668. every selfish,

  669. every dirty

  670. thought that

  671. has crossed

  672. our minds.

  673. He knows

  674. you well

  675. enough not

  676. just to

  677. guess,

  678. but to

  679. know for

  680. certain

  681. why you're

  682. doing

  683. anything

  684. that you

  685. do.

  686. And so

  687. this was

  688. at times

  689. a very

  690. interesting

  691. relationship

  692. between

  693. Jesus

  694. and the

  695. disciples

  696. like Peter

  697. and James

  698. and John.

  699. They couldn't

  700. hide things

  701. from him.

  702. He called

  703. their bluffs

  704. like here

  705. with Peter

  706. again and

  707. again.

  708. And yet

  709. even though

  710. he knew

  711. what was

  712. really in

  713. each one

  714. of them,

  715. he never

  716. pushed them

  717. away.

  718. He never

  719. said,

  720. I don't

  721. want to

  722. be with

  723. you guys

  724. anymore,

  725. bunch of

  726. sinners.

  727. No.

  728. He loved

  729. them even

  730. though he

  731. knew what

  732. was in

  733. them,

  734. that they

  735. were sinners.

  736. I can't

  737. help but think

  738. that this is

  739. at least part

  740. of the reason

  741. they stuck

  742. with him

  743. even after

  744. all of their

  745. own sins

  746. had been

  747. exposed by

  748. him so

  749. many times

  750. because here's

  751. a man who

  752. knew them,

  753. who really

  754. knew them,

  755. and yet

  756. wanted to

  757. be with

  758. them and

  759. loved them,

  760. really cared

  761. about them.

  762. There's

  763. something else

  764. in this

  765. question of

  766. Jesus that's

  767. amazing.

  768. It's the

  769. pronouns.

  770. It's a

  771. little difficult

  772. to see in

  773. English but

  774. in the

  775. original Greek

  776. the way that

  777. it's ordered,

  778. the words,

  779. and the

  780. form of

  781. one of

  782. the pronouns

  783. puts a

  784. special emphasis

  785. on them.

  786. It sounds

  787. a little bit

  788. like this.

  789. The life

  790. of you

  791. for me,

  792. will you

  793. lay down?

  794. I think

  795. there's a

  796. fuller

  797. rhetorical

  798. answer to

  799. Jesus'

  800. question

  801. and it's

  802. subtle.

  803. No,

  804. Peter,

  805. you won't

  806. lay down

  807. your life

  808. for me.

  809. I will

  810. lay down

  811. my life

  812. for you.

  813. Think

  814. about this.

  815. Imagine

  816. yourself there

  817. at the

  818. table with

  819. Jesus and

  820. the other

  821. disciples.

  822. You've just

  823. been fighting

  824. with them

  825. about which

  826. one of you

  827. is the

  828. greatest

  829. according to

  830. the other

  831. gospel accounts

  832. but now

  833. you're somewhat

  834. embarrassed

  835. again because

  836. Jesus has

  837. exposed your

  838. pride again

  839. saying that

  840. you need to

  841. humble yourself

  842. and serve

  843. one another

  844. stooping down

  845. to wash

  846. your dirty

  847. feet

  848. and then

  849. now you've

  850. been trying

  851. to prove

  852. your loyalty

  853. to Jesus

  854. amidst the

  855. clamoring of

  856. all the others

  857. as Jesus

  858. reveals that

  859. one here in

  860. the room

  861. is a traitor

  862. and people

  863. are saying

  864. all kinds

  865. of things

  866. and maybe

  867. you are

  868. too

  869. and deep

  870. inside

  871. maybe you're

  872. wondering

  873. even as you

  874. say it

  875. surely not

  876. me Lord

  877. I would

  878. never do

  879. that

  880. maybe you're

  881. wondering

  882. how far

  883. would I go

  884. with him

  885. would I be

  886. willing to

  887. die for him

  888. what's my

  889. price

  890. what's that

  891. point at

  892. which I

  893. would just

  894. not follow

  895. him anymore

  896. maybe thoughts

  897. of all the

  898. times you've

  899. blown it

  900. and disobeyed

  901. Jesus over

  902. these past

  903. few years

  904. are beginning

  905. to flood

  906. into your

  907. mind

  908. Jesus

  909. has just

  910. called

  911. Peter's

  912. bluff

  913. what if

  914. he calls

  915. yours

  916. next

  917. if one

  918. of you

  919. is about

  920. to betray

  921. Jesus

  922. and one

  923. is about

  924. to disown

  925. Jesus

  926. three times

  927. what's

  928. Jesus

  929. going to

  930. say to

  931. you

  932. what does

  933. he know

  934. about you

  935. that you

  936. will actually

  937. do

  938. when the

  939. time

  940. comes

  941. as I

  942. said

  943. before

  944. we can't

  945. hide

  946. anything

  947. from

  948. Jesus

  949. he knows

  950. what's

  951. really in

  952. our hearts

  953. and yet

  954. he will

  955. lay down

  956. his life

  957. for us

  958. it's one

  959. thing to

  960. love

  961. something

  962. or someone

  963. that's

  964. already

  965. lovely

  966. it's not

  967. hard to

  968. love a

  969. beautiful

  970. flower

  971. or a

  972. fresh and

  973. juicy piece

  974. of fruit

  975. or a

  976. gorgeous

  977. sunset

  978. these things

  979. are easy

  980. to love

  981. because

  982. they're

  983. already

  984. lovely

  985. they're

  986. already

  987. worthy

  988. of

  989. appreciation

  990. and affection

  991. but it's

  992. another thing

  993. to love

  994. something

  995. or someone

  996. that is

  997. much less

  998. than

  999. lovely

  1000. like a

  1001. self-absorbed

  1002. proud

  1003. and selfish

  1004. person

  1005. who is

  1006. there for

  1007. you

  1008. when it

  1009. suits them

  1010. and gone

  1011. when it

  1012. doesn't

  1013. or a

  1014. person who's

  1015. impatient

  1016. easily

  1017. angered

  1018. speaks

  1019. rudely

  1020. to you

  1021. sometimes

  1022. and talks

  1023. about you

  1024. behind your

  1025. back

  1026. but the

  1027. amazing

  1028. thing

  1029. is

  1030. Jesus

  1031. loves

  1032. people

  1033. who are

  1034. like

  1035. that

  1036. sinners

  1037. like you

  1038. like me

  1039. he knows

  1040. exactly

  1041. what's

  1042. in our

  1043. hearts

  1044. how

  1045. less

  1046. than

  1047. lovely

  1048. we are

  1049. and still

  1050. he will

  1051. lay down

  1052. his life

  1053. for us

  1054. he will

  1055. die to

  1056. save us

  1057. so that

  1058. we can

  1059. be with

  1060. him

  1061. forever

  1062. isn't

  1063. that

  1064. amazing

  1065. I'm

  1066. reminded

  1067. of the

  1068. words

  1069. of the

  1070. apostle

  1071. Paul

  1072. 5

  1073. verses

  1074. 6

  1075. to

  1076. 8

  1077. you see

  1078. at just

  1079. the right

  1080. time

  1081. when we

  1082. were still

  1083. powerless

  1084. Christ

  1085. died

  1086. for the

  1087. ungodly

  1088. very

  1089. rarely

  1090. will anyone

  1091. die for a

  1092. righteous

  1093. person

  1094. no for

  1095. a good

  1096. person

  1097. someone

  1098. might

  1099. possibly

  1100. dare

  1101. to

  1102. die

  1103. but

  1104. God

  1105. demonstrates

  1106. his own

  1107. love

  1108. for us

  1109. in this

  1110. while we

  1111. were still

  1112. sinners

  1113. Christ

  1114. died

  1115. for us

  1116. perhaps

  1117. this too

  1118. tells us

  1119. something

  1120. about how

  1121. the glory

  1122. of Jesus

  1123. can be

  1124. seen

  1125. in the

  1126. midst

  1127. of his

  1128. suffering

  1129. and death

  1130. let's

  1131. pray

  1132. Lord Jesus

  1133. we thank

  1134. you for

  1135. these words

  1136. that you've

  1137. given to

  1138. us

  1139. we thank

  1140. you that

  1141. you've

  1142. allowed

  1143. us to

  1144. almost

  1145. be there

  1146. in the

  1147. room

  1148. see and

  1149. hear what's

  1150. what was

  1151. said that

  1152. night

  1153. and we

  1154. know that

  1155. if we

  1156. were there

  1157. you would

  1158. have loved

  1159. us just

  1160. the same

  1161. thank you

  1162. for paying

  1163. the ultimate

  1164. sacrifice for

  1165. us for

  1166. dying on

  1167. that cross

  1168. for us

  1169. thank you

  1170. that you

  1171. want to be

  1172. with each

  1173. one of us

  1174. with all

  1175. of our

  1176. faults

  1177. all of our

  1178. failures

  1179. all of our

  1180. sin

  1181. it's

  1182. amazing

  1183. and we

  1184. love you

  1185. so much

  1186. for it

  1187. we give

  1188. you glory

  1189. we give

  1190. you praise

  1191. because

  1192. that's

  1193. your due

  1194. amen
