  1. All right, well this morning as we come to the Word of God, we are in the book of Titus.

  2. We're working our way through this letter from Paul to Titus, and we are now in chapter 2.

  3. So if you have your Bible with you, you can open it up to chapter 2.

  4. Now this second chapter of Paul's letter contains two parts.

  5. In the first part, verses 1 to 10, Paul tells Titus what he should be teaching

  6. various groups of people in the churches, and he divides these groups by age and gender.

  7. There are things to teach the older men in verse 2, things to teach the older women, verses 3 to 4,

  8. things to teach the younger men, verses 6 to 8, and things to teach slaves, verses 9 and 10.

  9. Then in the second part of this chapter, Paul reminds Titus of the gospel, the good news of Jesus,

  10. and how this kind of living, talked about in the first part, flows out of the gospel.

  11. Now, normally we would cover these two parts in order, but because it's Communion Sunday today,

  12. we're just going to jump ahead to the second part, and then we're going to go back and cover the first part next Sunday.

  13. So let me begin by reading the chapter so that we don't miss the flow and connection of these two parts.

  14. This is Paul writing to Titus.

  15. Titus.

  16. Titus.

  17. Titus.

  18. Teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned,

  19. so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

  20. Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything,

  21. to try to please them, not to talk back to them and not to steal from them,

  22. but to show that they can be fully trusted,

  23. so that in every way they will make the teaching about God, our Savior, attractive.

  24. For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.

  25. It teaches us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions

  26. and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age

  27. while we wait for the blessed hope,

  28. the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,

  29. Jesus Christ,

  30. who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness

  31. and to purify for himself a people that are his very own,

  32. eager to do what is good.

  33. These then are the things you should teach.

  34. So the first ten verses of this chapter is Paul telling Titus

  35. to teach the people in the churches to live a certain way.

  36. We're going to look at that more next week.

  37. But the summary of it is that they're to live honorable,

  38. faithful, holy, pure, self-controlled, upright lives,

  39. fulfilling their various responsibilities within their families.

  40. And now as we come to verse 11,

  41. Paul's going to tell us the why.

  42. Why this kind of life?

  43. And he begins with this statement in verse 11.

  44. He says,

  45. For the grace of God has appeared

  46. that offers salvation to all people.

  47. So Paul starts by reminding us of the gospel.

  48. The grace of God has appeared.

  49. God's grace is his kindness,

  50. his favor,

  51. his generous giving nature.

  52. That part of who God is has appeared.

  53. As one pastor has put it,

  54. God's grace has come to light

  55. in a way that was previously unseen.

  56. Not that he wasn't gracious before,

  57. but that now God's grace is revealed

  58. in a new and especially wonderful way.

  59. Paul is alluding to the gospel.

  60. As one commentator puts it,

  61. he is referring to the unique historical appearance

  62. of Jesus Christ,

  63. the one whom God has sent

  64. because of his grace.

  65. Jesus coming and living among us

  66. and all that he did

  67. and all that he said

  68. and all that he set in motion,

  69. that is how the grace of God has appeared.

  70. And Paul's just kind of summing up the whole thing here.

  71. All that God has done

  72. and is doing through Christ,

  73. it's a gift of his generous kindness,

  74. his grace.

  75. And through this gift of grace,

  76. salvation has been brought,

  77. has been offered to all people.

  78. So because God is generous and giving,

  79. kind,

  80. he has opened the way to be saved

  81. and offered salvation

  82. to all the people of the world.

  83. And Jesus is that way of salvation.

  84. He himself is the savior,

  85. as Paul said back up in the introduction

  86. of this letter.

  87. But now all this is not Paul's main point.

  88. It's really the prelude to his main point,

  89. which is still coming.

  90. For the grace of God has appeared

  91. that offers salvation to all people.

  92. It teaches us to say no to ungodliness

  93. and worldly passions

  94. and to live self-controlled, upright,

  95. and godly lives in this present age.

  96. This is the connection point

  97. to all the instructions

  98. about how we should live

  99. that came before all this.

  100. God's grace has appeared

  101. and it teaches us to live a certain way

  102. in this present age.

  103. So the gospel leads us

  104. to a certain kind of living.

  105. Christ has come from God

  106. as a gift of God's grace to us.

  107. Not only to forgive us of our sins

  108. and to deal with our guilt,

  109. but also to change the way that we live.

  110. And it's here that we come face to face

  111. with this gospel truth.

  112. We are not only saved from,

  113. we are saved to.

  114. We are not only saved from,

  115. we are saved for.

  116. God, because he is a gracious God,

  117. has a purpose for saving us

  118. that's bigger than just getting us off the hook

  119. for our sins.

  120. forgiveness is part of it.

  121. But it's not the whole story.

  122. It's not the only thing

  123. that God is aiming to do for us

  124. by his grace.

  125. And sadly,

  126. sometimes we miss this element

  127. of the gospel message.

  128. We are right to focus on forgiveness

  129. and the removal of guilt.

  130. We're right to focus on the wiping

  131. of our slate clean.

  132. But God aims by his grace

  133. to do more than that with us.

  134. He wants to transform us

  135. inside and out.

  136. He wants to change our very lives.

  137. He wants to take us from living sinfully

  138. to now living righteously.

  139. From living selfishly

  140. to now living lives of authentic love.

  141. from being full of evil deeds

  142. to now being full of good works.

  143. Another way to say this,

  144. sometimes we might be tempted

  145. to treat our salvation

  146. as if it's kind of like

  147. a get out of hell free card.

  148. As if it's a fire insurance policy

  149. and little more.

  150. But the good news of God's grace

  151. is that we are saved

  152. from the penalty,

  153. the punishment our sins deserve

  154. and saved to a new life.

  155. A life that's characterized

  156. by holiness,

  157. righteousness,

  158. love,

  159. good deeds.

  160. Listen to this in verses 11 and 12.

  161. God's grace teaches us

  162. to say no.

  163. Literally,

  164. to renounce ungodliness

  165. and worldly passions.

  166. So there are two things

  167. that God's grace leads us

  168. to reject and turn away from.

  169. First, ungodliness.

  170. It means to live a life

  171. that does not honor God.

  172. To live in a way

  173. that disregards Him.

  174. A godless life.

  175. God's grace,

  176. which came through Jesus Christ,

  177. teaches us to renounce

  178. that kind of life.

  179. To say no to that kind of life.

  180. It also teaches us

  181. to say no

  182. to worldly passions

  183. or worldly lusts.

  184. This means the desires

  185. or cravings

  186. that our world has

  187. that are sinful,

  188. illicit,

  189. perverse,

  190. crooked.

  191. Things like greed

  192. and the desire to be rich

  193. or immoral sexual desire

  194. or the desire for revenge.

  195. Immoderate desires for pleasure

  196. like gluttony

  197. or the desire for escape

  198. like through drunkenness

  199. and intoxication.

  200. Desires for power

  201. or control over others.

  202. Desires for fame

  203. and prestige

  204. and popularity

  205. or the desire to win

  206. at all costs.

  207. All of these

  208. are the kinds of things

  209. that worldly passions

  210. refers to.

  211. God's grace,

  212. which came through

  213. Jesus Christ,

  214. teaches us to renounce

  215. those kinds of desires,

  216. that kind of life,

  217. to say no

  218. to those illicit cravings.

  219. Think back to the teachings

  220. of Jesus

  221. in the Sermon on the Mount

  222. and in his parables.

  223. He commanded his disciples

  224. not to be angry

  225. or to seek revenge

  226. or to do good things

  227. just to be seen

  228. and loved by others.

  229. He taught them

  230. not to be greedy,

  231. not to desire

  232. the highest places

  233. of honor and authority.

  234. He taught them

  235. not to live for themselves,

  236. but to live to please

  237. God.

  238. The gospel

  239. isn't just the news

  240. of what Christ

  241. has done for us.

  242. It's also the news

  243. that Christ

  244. has a new

  245. and better life

  246. for us to live.

  247. And to enter

  248. into this life

  249. requires us

  250. to repent

  251. as Jesus declared,

  252. to renounce

  253. the godless life

  254. and the worldly passions.

  255. That word renounce

  256. or say no

  257. to

  258. is also the same word

  259. that's used

  260. back up in chapter 1

  261. about the false teachers.

  262. As we heard last Sunday,

  263. they claim to know God,

  264. chapter 1, verse 16,

  265. but by their actions

  266. they deny him.

  267. They denied God

  268. by their living.

  269. But here,

  270. Paul says,

  271. the grace of God

  272. teaches us

  273. to deny

  274. godless living

  275. and worldly passions.

  276. So the grace of God,

  277. the gospel of God,

  278. Christ Jesus

  279. who came

  280. teaches us

  281. not to live a life

  282. like we've just been

  283. talking about,

  284. but then he flips

  285. to the positive

  286. side of things.

  287. The grace of God

  288. teaches us

  289. to live

  290. a life

  291. like this.

  292. it teaches us

  293. to live

  294. self-controlled,

  295. upright,

  296. and godly lives

  297. in this present age.

  298. And I think

  299. it's helpful

  300. to compare

  301. the life described

  302. here with the requirements

  303. for the elders

  304. back up in chapter 1,

  305. especially in verse 8.

  306. And we should compare

  307. the life described

  308. here with the way

  309. that the Cretans

  310. are known to live

  311. in verse 12

  312. of chapter 1.

  313. Always liars,

  314. evil brutes,

  315. lazy gluttons.

  316. And we should compare

  317. the life described

  318. here with the way

  319. that the false teachers

  320. are living

  321. in verse 10

  322. and verse 16

  323. of chapter 1.

  324. Do we notice

  325. a theme here?

  326. Even the word

  327. self-controlled

  328. here in verse 12

  329. shows up

  330. all over the place

  331. here.

  332. It's a qualification

  333. for a church leader

  334. in chapter 1,

  335. verse 8.

  336. It's what the Cretans

  337. lack.

  338. They're always

  339. lazy gluttons.

  340. It's the one thing

  341. that Paul tells Titus

  342. to teach all the groups

  343. of people

  344. in chapter 2,

  345. the young

  346. and the old,

  347. male and female.

  348. And now we see why.

  349. Because this is

  350. what it is

  351. to be

  352. a Christian,

  353. to belong to Christ.

  354. We are saved

  355. from our sinful life

  356. to live lives

  357. that are

  358. self-controlled.

  359. Don't let

  360. the worldly passions

  361. rule over.

  362. God's grace

  363. has come

  364. through Christ

  365. to teach us,

  366. to lead us,

  367. to rule

  368. over our desires

  369. and our appetites

  370. and our cravings,

  371. to be in control

  372. of ourselves

  373. as we are made

  374. to be.

  375. Living upright,

  376. godly lives,

  377. good lives

  378. devoted to Him.

  379. Now we might be

  380. tempted at this point

  381. to say,

  382. well,

  383. God doesn't really

  384. expect me to change

  385. that much,

  386. does He?

  387. at least not

  388. until we get

  389. to heaven,

  390. right?

  391. No.

  392. The grace

  393. of God

  394. teaches us

  395. to live

  396. this way,

  397. this kind

  398. of life,

  399. in this

  400. present age,

  401. says Paul.

  402. There's a good

  403. many people

  404. who want

  405. the forgiveness

  406. of God,

  407. the grace

  408. of God,

  409. but not

  410. the life

  411. that God's

  412. grace

  413. teaches us

  414. to live.

  415. Listen,

  416. Christ did not

  417. come

  418. to wipe

  419. the slate

  420. clean

  421. so that

  422. you could

  423. fill it up

  424. again

  425. with more sins.

  426. Christ didn't

  427. come to suffer

  428. and die

  429. and atone

  430. for your sins

  431. so that you

  432. could keep

  433. doing them

  434. more and more.

  435. God in

  436. His grace

  437. has provided

  438. atonement

  439. and forgiveness,

  440. but are we

  441. going to try

  442. and take

  443. that gift

  444. and then

  445. willfully

  446. do more

  447. of the stuff

  448. that He

  449. died to

  450. forgive,

  451. transgress

  452. more,

  453. sin more?

  454. May it

  455. never be.

  456. For the grace

  457. of God

  458. has appeared

  459. that offers

  460. salvation

  461. to all people

  462. and it

  463. teaches us

  464. to say

  465. no

  466. to

  467. ungodliness

  468. and worldly

  469. passions

  470. and to

  471. live

  472. self-controlled,

  473. upright,

  474. and godly

  475. lives

  476. in this

  477. present

  478. age.

  479. In the

  480. midst of

  481. this,

  482. Paul reminds

  483. us of

  484. something

  485. which helps

  486. to motivate

  487. us here

  488. because,

  489. you know,

  490. we might

  491. read this

  492. and think,

  493. oh man,

  494. you mean as

  495. a Christian

  496. I have to

  497. keep turning

  498. away from

  499. all this

  500. stuff?

  501. I have

  502. to live

  503. a self-controlled

  504. life?

  505. upright

  506. and godly?

  507. That sounds

  508. hard.

  509. That sounds

  510. unpleasant.

  511. But Paul

  512. reminds us

  513. of what's

  514. coming

  515. to encourage

  516. us here.

  517. Listen,

  518. he says,

  519. we are

  520. waiting

  521. for the

  522. blessed

  523. hope

  524. that's

  525. coming.

  526. Verse

  527. 13.

  528. It teaches

  529. us to live

  530. this way

  531. while we

  532. wait for

  533. the blessed

  534. hope,

  535. the appearing

  536. of the

  537. glory of

  538. our great

  539. God and

  540. Savior,

  541. Jesus

  542. Christ.

  543. There's a

  544. wonderful

  545. certain

  546. future ahead.

  547. The grace

  548. of God

  549. appeared the

  550. first time

  551. when Jesus

  552. came,

  553. and it's

  554. going to

  555. appear again

  556. when he

  557. returns

  558. in his

  559. glory.

  560. This is

  561. a blessed,

  562. happy

  563. certainty

  564. that we

  565. can set

  566. our hope

  567. on.

  568. Until we

  569. are to

  570. live this

  571. way,

  572. renouncing

  573. ungodliness

  574. and worldly

  575. passions,

  576. and now

  577. living

  578. self-controlled,

  579. upright,

  580. and godly

  581. lives in

  582. anticipation

  583. of that

  584. blessed and

  585. happy day

  586. that's coming

  587. when our

  588. King and

  589. our Savior

  590. appears

  591. again,

  592. Jesus.

  593. Now,

  594. just in

  595. case we

  596. didn't get

  597. it the

  598. first time

  599. through,

  600. Paul's

  601. going to

  602. take us

  603. through it

  604. all one

  605. more time.

  606. Here in

  607. verse 14,

  608. we're waiting

  609. for the

  610. appearing

  611. of Jesus

  612. Christ,

  613. verse 14,

  614. who gave

  615. himself for

  616. us to

  617. redeem us

  618. from all

  619. wickedness

  620. and to

  621. purify for

  622. himself a

  623. people that

  624. are his

  625. very own,

  626. eager to

  627. do what

  628. is good.

  629. let's just

  630. go through

  631. this quickly.

  632. Jesus gave

  633. himself for

  634. us.

  635. He gave

  636. his life

  637. for us

  638. when he

  639. died on

  640. the cross.

  641. Why?

  642. Paul says

  643. in order

  644. to redeem

  645. us.

  646. He gave

  647. himself for

  648. us to

  649. redeem us.

  650. To redeem

  651. means to

  652. set us

  653. free.

  654. free.

  655. So,

  656. his

  657. suffering

  658. and death

  659. was a

  660. price paid

  661. on our

  662. behalf

  663. to set

  664. us free.

  665. Free

  666. from what?

  667. He gave

  668. himself for

  669. us to

  670. redeem us

  671. from

  672. all

  673. wickedness,

  674. quite

  675. literally,

  676. from every

  677. lawless

  678. deed.

  679. And that

  680. word lawless

  681. is powerful.

  682. What are the

  683. inhabitants of

  684. this island

  685. of Crete

  686. known for?

  687. This place

  688. is a place

  689. of lawlessness.

  690. The people

  691. all around

  692. them are

  693. lying,

  694. cheating,

  695. stealing,

  696. swindling.

  697. They're not

  698. working.

  699. They're given

  700. to gluttony

  701. and drunkenness.

  702. And Paul's

  703. saying Jesus

  704. gave himself

  705. for us to

  706. redeem us

  707. from that.

  708. All of it.

  709. From that

  710. kind of

  711. lawless

  712. life and

  713. the punishment

  714. that we

  715. deserve because

  716. of it.

  717. That's why

  718. you must

  719. teach the

  720. people there

  721. in the

  722. churches on

  723. Crete to

  724. live good,

  725. upright,

  726. self-controlled

  727. lives.

  728. The very

  729. gospel itself

  730. is that Jesus

  731. wants to

  732. redeem us

  733. from that.

  734. He gave

  735. himself for

  736. us not

  737. only to

  738. redeem us

  739. from all

  740. wickedness,

  741. but also

  742. to purify

  743. for himself

  744. people that

  745. are his

  746. very own.

  747. And there

  748. are two

  749. wonderful truths

  750. here.

  751. First,

  752. that Jesus

  753. died for

  754. us to

  755. purify us,

  756. to cleanse

  757. us of

  758. that which

  759. defiles us

  760. and makes

  761. us dirty.

  762. Sin does

  763. that.

  764. It defiles

  765. us.

  766. It makes

  767. us dirty.

  768. And Jesus

  769. died to

  770. remedy that.

  771. He died to

  772. wash us

  773. clean.

  774. So now

  775. that we've

  776. been cleansed

  777. by him,

  778. should we

  779. keep going

  780. back to

  781. jump in

  782. the mud

  783. of sin,

  784. living

  785. godlessly,

  786. living to

  787. scratch the

  788. itch of

  789. worldly

  790. lusts?

  791. That kind

  792. of living

  793. doesn't fit

  794. with what

  795. Jesus has

  796. done for

  797. us.

  798. He suffered

  799. an agonizing,

  800. death.

  801. He took

  802. our punishment,

  803. God's wrath

  804. upon himself

  805. in order to

  806. purify us.

  807. And so we

  808. must now

  809. seek to

  810. live pure

  811. lives.

  812. The second

  813. truth here is

  814. that Jesus

  815. gave himself

  816. for us.

  817. He died

  818. for us

  819. to make

  820. us his

  821. special

  822. people.

  823. To purify

  824. for himself

  825. a people

  826. that are

  827. his very

  828. own.

  829. sin.

  830. So this

  831. is not

  832. just about

  833. eradicating

  834. our sin.

  835. It's about

  836. bringing us

  837. into a

  838. special

  839. relationship

  840. with him

  841. where we

  842. are his

  843. special

  844. treasured

  845. possession.

  846. Listen,

  847. God doesn't

  848. just want to

  849. fix what's

  850. broken with

  851. you and

  852. in you.

  853. He wants

  854. you.

  855. He loves

  856. you.

  857. He wants

  858. a relationship

  859. with you

  860. to the

  861. extent that

  862. he came

  863. down from

  864. heaven,

  865. became

  866. one of

  867. us,

  868. and died

  869. in our

  870. place

  871. to make

  872. it possible.

  873. Paul brings

  874. this long

  875. sentence to

  876. a close

  877. with one

  878. more reminder

  879. that yes,

  880. the gospel

  881. does lead

  882. us,

  883. teach us

  884. to live a

  885. holy life.

  886. We see it at

  887. the end of

  888. verse 14

  889. there.

  890. He gave

  891. himself for

  892. us to

  893. redeem us

  894. and to

  895. purify us

  896. so that

  897. we would

  898. be a

  899. people that

  900. are his

  901. very own

  902. eager to

  903. do what

  904. is good.

  905. There it

  906. is again.

  907. Not just

  908. saved from,

  909. redeemed from,

  910. washed pure,

  911. but saved

  912. to,

  913. redeemed and

  914. washed to

  915. be a

  916. people who

  917. do what

  918. is good.

  919. The life

  920. that Christ

  921. commands us

  922. to live,

  923. self-controlled,

  924. upright,

  925. devoted to

  926. God,

  927. it's what we

  928. were made

  929. for.

  930. It's what

  931. we were

  932. saved for.

  933. And notice,

  934. Jesus' aim in

  935. all this was

  936. not to

  937. have his

  938. people live

  939. this way

  940. begrudgingly,

  941. but eagerly,

  942. eager to

  943. do what is

  944. good,

  945. which means

  946. that Christ

  947. died even

  948. to change

  949. our hearts,

  950. our desires,

  951. and our

  952. loves to

  953. fit this

  954. kind of

  955. living.

  956. This is

  957. the good

  958. news of

  959. Jesus.

  960. Have you

  961. embraced this

  962. offer of

  963. salvation,

  964. this call of

  965. Christ on

  966. your life

  967. to renounce

  968. ungodliness and

  969. worldly passions

  970. and to live

  971. upright,

  972. godly,

  973. self-controlled

  974. lives?

  975. If you

  976. haven't yet

  977. done this,

  978. I want to

  979. urge you,

  980. do it

  981. today.

  982. And if

  983. you have

  984. done this,

  985. let me

  986. encourage you

  987. to let

  988. these words

  989. sink in

  990. deep and

  991. give you

  992. the courage

  993. and help

  994. to continue

  995. living the

  996. kind of

  997. life that

  998. God's grace

  999. has saved

  1000. us for.

  1001. Let's not

  1002. give up,

  1003. even though

  1004. it's hard.

  1005. God,

  1006. the other

  1007. night at

  1008. youth,

  1009. we were

  1010. talking about

  1011. the prayer

  1012. that Jesus

  1013. taught his

  1014. disciples to

  1015. pray.

  1016. And it's

  1017. the kind

  1018. of prayer

  1019. that we're

  1020. to pray

  1021. every day.

  1022. Give us

  1023. this day

  1024. our daily

  1025. bread.

  1026. We're also

  1027. in that

  1028. prayer that

  1029. Jesus taught

  1030. us to

  1031. pray and ask

  1032. God to

  1033. forgive us

  1034. our

  1035. transgressions.

  1036. Again,

  1037. literally,

  1038. our lawless

  1039. deeds.

  1040. Forgive us

  1041. again of

  1042. those things

  1043. that we

  1044. have done

  1045. and lead

  1046. us not

  1047. into temptation

  1048. but deliver

  1049. us from

  1050. evil.

  1051. Living this

  1052. way isn't

  1053. easy.

  1054. It's hard

  1055. enough for

  1056. us that

  1057. Christ taught

  1058. us to pray

  1059. daily and

  1060. ask for

  1061. God's help

  1062. with it.

  1063. And so

  1064. may we do

  1065. that.

  1066. And may we

  1067. not lose

  1068. heart in our

  1069. struggle.

  1070. Each one

  1071. of us for

  1072. personal

  1073. holiness to

  1074. the Lord.

  1075. And as we

  1076. come to the

  1077. Lord's table

  1078. this morning,

  1079. here's the

  1080. good news.

  1081. Even though

  1082. we will

  1083. fall short

  1084. and fail

  1085. and at

  1086. times give

  1087. in to

  1088. temptation

  1089. and sin,

  1090. even though

  1091. sometimes we

  1092. will entertain

  1093. and even act

  1094. on worldly

  1095. passions like

  1096. we used to

  1097. do all the

  1098. time,

  1099. as we

  1100. look again

  1101. to our

  1102. heavenly

  1103. father each

  1104. day and

  1105. as we

  1106. pray and

  1107. ask,

  1108. forgive us

  1109. our debts,

  1110. forgive us

  1111. our transgressions.

  1112. His grace

  1113. abounds to

  1114. us through

  1115. what Jesus

  1116. did on the

  1117. cross for

  1118. us.

  1119. He is

  1120. faithful to

  1121. forgive us

  1122. when we

  1123. confess and

  1124. to cleanse

  1125. us of

  1126. all

  1127. unrighteousness.

  1128. 1 John 1

    1 John 1:9

  1129. verse 9.

  1130. By God's

  1131. grace,

  1132. we are

  1133. saved from

  1134. our sin

  1135. and guilt

  1136. and we

  1137. are saved

  1138. to a

  1139. new,

  1140. upright

  1141. life of

  1142. devotion to

  1143. God.

  1144. And,

  1145. by God's

  1146. grace,

  1147. we are

  1148. carried from

  1149. the start

  1150. of this

  1151. new life

  1152. all the

  1153. way through

  1154. to the

  1155. ultimate

  1156. attainment

  1157. of it

  1158. when Jesus

  1159. Christ

  1160. returns

  1161. in glory.

  1162. And this

  1163. grace

  1164. that we

  1165. need,

  1166. it came

  1167. to us

  1168. by Christ

  1169. and His

  1170. death on

  1171. the cross.

  1172. So as we

  1173. go to the

  1174. Lord's table

  1175. this morning,

  1176. the bread

  1177. that we

  1178. partake of,

  1179. it represents

  1180. Jesus'

  1181. body,

  1182. which was

  1183. broken for

  1184. us.

  1185. And the

  1186. cup

  1187. represents

  1188. His blood,

  1189. which was

  1190. shed for

  1191. us.

  1192. We do

  1193. this in

  1194. remembrance

  1195. of Him.

  1196. in remembrance

  1197. of His

  1198. grace.

  1199. So if you

  1200. have embraced

  1201. Jesus Christ

  1202. as your

  1203. Savior and

  1204. as your

  1205. Lord,

  1206. then please

  1207. eat and

  1208. drink with

  1209. us.

  1210. If not,

  1211. please refrain

  1212. until you

  1213. have given

  1214. yourself to

  1215. Him.

  1216. We'll take a

  1217. few minutes

  1218. to pray

  1219. quietly and

  1220. reflect now.

  1221. and the

  1222. elders will

  1223. come forward

  1224. and serve

  1225. the bread

  1226. and the

  1227. cup.

  1228. And then

  1229. we'll give

  1230. thanks and

  1231. we'll eat

  1232. and drink

  1233. all together

  1234. in unison.

  1235. voy voy

  1236. voy
