  1. I'll be reading this morning from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 26.

    Matthew 26 chapter mention

  2. When Jesus had finished saying all these things,

  3. !

  4. While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the leper,

  5. a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume,

  6. which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

  7. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant.

  8. Why this waste?

  9. They asked.

  10. This perfume could have been sold at a high price in the money given to the poor.

  11. Aware of this, Jesus said to them,

  12. Why are you bothering this woman?

  13. She has done a beautiful thing to me.

  14. The poor you will always have with you,

  15. but you will not always have me.

  16. When she poured this perfume on my body,

  17. she did it to prepare me for burial.

  18. Truly, I tell you,

  19. wherever this Gospel is preached throughout the world,

  20. what she has done will also be told in memory of her.

  21. Then one of the twelve,

  22. the one called Judas Iscariot,

  23. went to the chief priests and asked,

  24. What are you willing to give me

  25. if I deliver him over to you?

  26. So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver.

  27. From then on,

  28. Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

  29. On the first day of the festival of unleavened bread,

  30. the disciples came to Jesus and asked,

  31. Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?

  32. He replied,

  33. Go into the city,

  34. a certain man,

  35. to a certain man,

  36. and tell him,

  37. The teacher says,

  38. My appointed time is near.

  39. I'm going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.

  40. So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

  41. When evening came,

  42. Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve.

  43. And while they were eating, he said,

  44. Truly, I tell you,

  45. one of you will betray me.

  46. They were very sad

  47. and began to say to him,

  48. one after the other,

  49. Surely you don't mean me, Lord.

  50. Jesus replied,

  51. The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me

  52. will betray me.

  53. The Son of Man will go,

  54. just as it has been written about him.

  55. But woe to that man

  56. who betrays the Son of Man.

  57. It would be better for him

  58. if he had not been born.

  59. Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said,

  60. Surely you don't mean me, Rabbi.

  61. Jesus answered,

  62. You have said it.

  63. While they were eating,

  64. Jesus took bread.

  65. And when he had given thanks,

  66. he broke it and gave it to his disciples,

  67. saying,

  68. Take and eat.

  69. This is my body.

  70. Then he took a cup,

  71. and when he had given thanks,

  72. he gave it to them,

  73. saying,

  74. Drink from it,

  75. all of you.

  76. This is my blood

  77. of the covenant,

  78. which is poured out for many

  79. for the forgiveness of sins.

  80. I tell you,

  81. I will not drink from this fruit of the vine

  82. from now on

  83. until that day

  84. when I drink it new with you

  85. in my Father's kingdom.

  86. When they had sung a hymn,

  87. they went out to the Mount of Olives.

  88. Then Jesus told them,

  89. This very night

  90. you will all

  91. fall away

  92. on account of me.

  93. For it is written,

  94. I will strike the shepherd

  95. and the sheep of the flock

  96. will be scattered.

  97. But after I have risen,

  98. I will go ahead of you

  99. into Galilee.

  100. Peter replied,

  101. Even if all fall away

  102. on account of you,

  103. I never will.

  104. Truly, I tell you,

  105. Jesus answered,

  106. This very night

  107. before the rooster crows,

  108. you will disown me

  109. three times.

  110. But Peter declared,

  111. Even if I have to die with you,

  112. I will never disown you.

  113. And all the other disciples

  114. said the same.

  115. Then Jesus went with his disciples

  116. to a place called Gethsemane.

  117. And he said to them,

  118. Sit here

  119. while I go over there

  120. and pray.

  121. He took Peter

  122. and the two sons of Zebedee

  123. along with him,

  124. and he began

  125. to be sorrowful

  126. and troubled.

  127. Then he said to them,

  128. My soul is overwhelmed.

  129. With sorrow

  130. to the point of death.

  131. Stay here

  132. and keep watch with me.

  133. Going a little farther,

  134. he fell with his face

  135. to the ground

  136. and prayed,

  137. My father,

  138. if it is possible,

  139. may this cup

  140. be taken

  141. from me.

  142. Yet not as I will,

  143. but as you will.

  144. Then he returned

  145. to his disciples

  146. and found them sleeping.

  147. Couldn't you men

  148. keep watch with me

  149. for one hour,

  150. he asked Peter.

  151. Watch

  152. and pray

  153. so that you will not

  154. fall into temptation.

  155. The spirit

  156. is willing,

  157. but the flesh

  158. is weak.

  159. He went away

  160. a second time

  161. and prayed,

  162. My father,

  163. if it is not

  164. possible for this cup

  165. to be taken away

  166. unless I drink it,

  167. may your will

  168. be done.

  169. When he came back

  170. again,

  171. he again found them

  172. sleeping because

  173. their eyes were heavy.

  174. So he left them

  175. and went away

  176. once more

  177. and prayed the third time

  178. saying the same thing.

  179. Then he returned

  180. to the disciples

  181. and said to them,

  182. Are you still sleeping

  183. and resting?

  184. Look,

  185. the hour has come

  186. and the Son of Man

  187. is delivered

  188. into the hands

  189. of sinners.

  190. Rise,

  191. let us go.

  192. Here comes

  193. my betrayer.

  194. While he was still

  195. speaking,

  196. Judas,

  197. one of the twelve

  198. arrived.

  199. With him was

  200. a large crowd

  201. armed with swords

  202. and clubs

  203. sent from the chief priests

  204. and the elders

  205. of the people.

  206. Now the betrayer

  207. had arranged a signal

  208. with them.

  209. The one I kiss

  210. is the man.

  211. Arrest him.

  212. Going at once

  213. to Jesus,

  214. Judas said,

  215. Greetings,

  216. Rabbi,

  217. and kissed him.

  218. Jesus replied,

  219. Do what you came

  220. for,

  221. friend.

  222. Then the men

  223. stepped forward,

  224. seized Jesus,

  225. and arrested him.

  226. With that,

  227. one of Jesus'

  228. companions

  229. reached for his sword,

  230. drew it,

  231. and struck

  232. the servant

  233. of the high priest,

  234. cutting off his ear.

  235. Put your sword

  236. back in its place,

  237. Jesus said to him.

  238. For all who draw

  239. the sword

  240. will die

  241. by the sword.

  242. Do you think

  243. I cannot call

  244. on my father

  245. and he will at once

  246. put at my disposal

  247. more than twelve

  248. legions

  249. of angels?

  250. But how then

  251. would the scriptures

  252. be fulfilled

  253. that say

  254. it must happen

  255. in this way?

  256. In that hour

  257. Jesus said

  258. to the crowd,

  259. Am I leading

  260. a rebellion

  261. that you have

  262. come out

  263. with swords

  264. and clubs

  265. to capture me?

  266. Every day

  267. I sat in the

  268. temple courts

  269. teaching

  270. and you did

  271. not arrest me.

  272. But this

  273. has all taken

  274. place

  275. that the writings

  276. of the prophets

  277. might be fulfilled.

  278. Then all the

  279. disciples

  280. deserted him

  281. and fled.

  282. Those who had

  283. arrested Jesus

  284. took him to

  285. Caiaphas,

  286. the high priest,

  287. where the teachers

  288. of the law

  289. and the elders

  290. had assembled.

  291. But Peter

  292. followed him

  293. at a distance,

  294. right up to the

  295. courtyard of the

  296. high priest.

  297. He entered

  298. and sat down

  299. with the guards

  300. to see the

  301. outcome.

  302. The chief

  303. priests

  304. and the whole

  305. Sanhedrin

  306. were looking

  307. for false

  308. evidence

  309. against Jesus

  310. so that they

  311. could put him

  312. to death.

  313. But they did

  314. not find any,

  315. though many

  316. false witnesses

  317. came forward.

  318. Finally,

  319. two came forward

  320. and declared,

  321. This fellow

  322. said,

  323. I am able

  324. to destroy

  325. the temple

  326. of God

  327. and rebuild

  328. it in three

  329. days.

  330. Then the

  331. high priest

  332. stood up

  333. and said

  334. to Jesus,

  335. Are you

  336. not going

  337. to answer?

  338. What is

  339. this testimony

  340. that these

  341. men are

  342. bringing

  343. against you?

  344. But Jesus

  345. remained

  346. silent.

  347. The high

  348. priest said

  349. to him,

  350. I charge

  351. you under

  352. oath by

  353. the living

  354. God.

  355. Tell us

  356. if you

  357. are the

  358. Messiah,

  359. the Son

  360. of God.

  361. you have

  362. said it,

  363. Jesus replied.

  364. But I

  365. say to

  366. all of

  367. you,

  368. from now

  369. on you

  370. will see

  371. the Son

  372. of Man

  373. sitting at

  374. the right

  375. hand of

  376. the Mighty

  377. One and

  378. coming on

  379. the clouds

  380. of heaven.

  381. Then the

  382. high priest

  383. tore his

  384. clothes and

  385. said,

  386. He has

  387. spoken

  388. blasphemy.

  389. Why do we

  390. need any

  391. more witnesses?

  392. Look,

  393. now you

  394. have heard

  395. the blasphemy.

  396. What do

  397. you think?

  398. He is

  399. worthy of

  400. death,

  401. they answered.

  402. Then they

  403. spit in

  404. his face

  405. and struck

  406. him with

  407. their fists.

  408. Others

  409. slapped him

  410. and said,

  411. Prophesy

  412. to us,

  413. Messiah,

  414. who hit

  415. you?

  416. Now Peter

  417. was sitting

  418. out in

  419. the courtyard

  420. and a

  421. servant

  422. girl came

  423. to him.

  424. You

  425. also were

  426. with

  427. Jesus

  428. of

  429. Galilee,

  430. she said.

  431. But he

  432. denied it

  433. before them

  434. all.

  435. I don't

  436. know what

  437. you're

  438. talking

  439. about,

  440. he said.

  441. Then he

  442. went out

  443. to the

  444. gateway

  445. where another

  446. servant

  447. girl saw

  448. him and

  449. said to

  450. the people

  451. there,

  452. This

  453. fellow

  454. was with

  455. Jesus

  456. of

  457. Nazareth.

  458. He

  459. denied it

  460. again

  461. with an

  462. oath.

  463. I don't

  464. know the

  465. man.

  466. man.

  467. After a

  468. little while,

  469. those standing

  470. there went

  471. up to

  472. Peter and

  473. said,

  474. Surely you

  475. are one

  476. of them.

  477. Your

  478. accent

  479. gives you

  480. away.

  481. Then he

  482. began to

  483. call down

  484. curses and

  485. he swore to

  486. them,

  487. I don't

  488. know the

  489. man.

  490. Immediately a

  491. rooster

  492. crowed.

  493. Then Peter

  494. remembered the

  495. word Jesus

  496. had spoken.

  497. Before the

  498. rooster crows,

  499. you will

  500. disown me

  501. three times.

  502. And he

  503. went outside

  504. and wept

  505. bitterly.

  506. Early in

  507. the morning,

  508. all the

  509. chief priests

  510. and the

  511. elders of

  512. the people

  513. made their

  514. plans how

  515. to have

  516. Jesus

  517. executed.

  518. So they

  519. bound him,

  520. led him

  521. away,

  522. and handed

  523. him over

  524. to Pilate,

  525. the governor.

  526. When Judas,

  527. who had

  528. betrayed him,

  529. saw that

  530. Jesus was

  531. condemned,

  532. he was

  533. seized

  534. with remorse

  535. and returned

  536. the thirty

  537. pieces of

  538. silver to

  539. the chief

  540. priests and

  541. the elders.

  542. I have

  543. sinned,

  544. he said,

  545. for I have

  546. betrayed

  547. innocent blood.

  548. What is

  549. that to us?

  550. They replied.

  551. That's your

  552. responsibility.

  553. So Judas

  554. threw the

  555. money into

  556. the temple

  557. and left.

  558. Then he

  559. went away

  560. and hanged

  561. himself.

  562. The chief

  563. priest picked

  564. up the coins

  565. and said,

  566. it's

  567. against

  568. the law

  569. to put

  570. this

  571. into

  572. the

  573. treasury

  574. since

  575. it's

  576. blood

  577. money.

  578. So they

  579. decided to

  580. use the

  581. money to

  582. buy the

  583. potter's

  584. field as

  585. a burial

  586. place for

  587. foreigners.

  588. That's why

  589. it has been

  590. called the

  591. field of

  592. blood to

  593. this day.

  594. Then what

  595. was spoken

  596. by Jeremiah

  597. the prophet

  598. was fulfilled.

  599. They took

  600. the thirty

  601. pieces of

  602. silver,

  603. the price

  604. set on

  605. him by

  606. the people

  607. of Israel,

  608. and they

  609. used them to

  610. buy the

  611. potter's

  612. field as

  613. the Lord

  614. commanded

  615. me.

  616. Meanwhile,

  617. Jesus stood

  618. before the

  619. governor,

  620. and the

  621. governor asked

  622. him,

  623. are you

  624. the king

  625. of the

  626. Jews?

  627. You have

  628. said it,

  629. Jesus replied.

  630. When he

  631. was accused

  632. by the

  633. chief priests

  634. and the

  635. elders,

  636. he gave

  637. no answer.

  638. Then Pilate

  639. asked him,

  640. don't you

  641. hear the

  642. testimony

  643. they're

  644. bringing

  645. against

  646. you?

  647. But

  648. Jesus

  649. made no

  650. reply,

  651. not even

  652. to a

  653. single

  654. charge,

  655. to the

  656. great

  657. amazement

  658. of the

  659. governor.

  660. Now it

  661. was the

  662. governor's

  663. custom at

  664. the festival

  665. to release

  666. a prisoner

  667. chosen by

  668. the crowd.

  669. At that

  670. time,

  671. they had a

  672. well-known

  673. prisoner whose

  674. name was

  675. Jesus

  676. Barabbas.

  677. So when

  678. the crowd

  679. had gathered,

  680. Pilate

  681. asked them,

  682. which one

  683. do you

  684. want me to

  685. release to

  686. you?

  687. Jesus

  688. Barabbas?

  689. Or

  690. Jesus

  691. who is

  692. called

  693. the

  694. Messiah?

  695. For he

  696. knew it

  697. was out

  698. of self-interest

  699. that they

  700. had handed

  701. Jesus over

  702. to him.

  703. While

  704. Pilate was

  705. sitting on

  706. the judge's

  707. seat,

  708. his wife

  709. sent him

  710. this message,

  711. don't have

  712. anything to

  713. do with

  714. that innocent

  715. man,

  716. for I

  717. have suffered

  718. a great

  719. deal today

  720. in a

  721. dream

  722. because of

  723. him.

  724. But the

  725. chief priests

  726. and the

  727. elders

  728. persuaded the

  729. crowd

  730. to ask

  731. for

  732. Barabbas

  733. and to

  734. have

  735. Jesus

  736. executed.

  737. Which

  738. of the

  739. two

  740. do you

  741. want me

  742. to

  743. release

  744. to

  745. you?

  746. asked

  747. the

  748. governor.

  749. Barabbas,

  750. they

  751. answered.

  752. What

  753. shall I

  754. do then

  755. with

  756. Jesus

  757. who

  758. is

  759. called

  760. the

  761. Messiah?

  762. Pilate

  763. asked.

  764. They

  765. all

  766. answered,

  767. crucify

  768. him.

  769. Why?

  770. What

  771. crime

  772. has he

  773. committed?

  774. asked

  775. Pilate.

  776. But they

  777. shouted

  778. all the

  779. louder,

  780. crucify

  781. him.

  782. When

  783. Pilate

  784. saw that

  785. he was

  786. getting

  787. nowhere,

  788. but that

  789. instead

  790. an uproar

  791. was starting,

  792. he took

  793. water and

  794. washed his

  795. hands in

  796. front of

  797. the crowd.

  798. I am

  799. innocent

  800. of this

  801. man's

  802. blood,

  803. he said.

  804. It is

  805. your

  806. responsibility.

  807. All the

  808. people

  809. answered,

  810. his

  811. blood is

  812. on us

  813. and on

  814. our

  815. children.

  816. Then he

  817. released

  818. Barabbas

  819. to them,

  820. but he

  821. had Jesus

  822. flogged

  823. and handed

  824. him over

  825. to be

  826. crucified.

  827. Then the

  828. governor's

  829. soldiers took

  830. Jesus into

  831. the praetorium

  832. and gathered

  833. the whole

  834. company of

  835. soldiers around

  836. him.

  837. They stripped

  838. him and

  839. put a

  840. scarlet

  841. robe on

  842. him and

  843. then twisted

  844. together a

  845. crown of

  846. thorns and

  847. set it on

  848. his head.

  849. They put a

  850. staff in

  851. his right

  852. hand.

  853. They knelt

  854. in front of

  855. him and

  856. mocked him.

  857. Hail,

  858. king of

  859. the Jews,

  860. they said.

  861. They spit

  862. on him and

  863. took the

  864. staff and

  865. struck him

  866. on the

  867. head.

  868. Again,

  869. and again.

  870. After they

  871. had mocked

  872. him,

  873. they took

  874. off the

  875. robe and

  876. put his

  877. own clothes

  878. on him.

  879. Then they

  880. led him

  881. away to

  882. crucify him.

  883. As they

  884. were going

  885. out, they

  886. met a

  887. man from

  888. Cyrene

  889. named

  890. Simon,

  891. and they

  892. forced him

  893. to carry

  894. the cross.

  895. They came

  896. to a place

  897. called

  898. Golgotha,

  899. which means

  900. the place

  901. of the

  902. skull.

  903. There

  904. they

  905. offered

  906. Jesus

  907. wine to

  908. drink,

  909. mixed with

  910. gall.

  911. But after

  912. tasting it,

  913. he refused

  914. to drink

  915. it.

  916. When they

  917. had crucified

  918. him,

  919. they divided

  920. up his

  921. clothes by

  922. casting

  923. lots.

  924. And

  925. sitting down,

  926. they kept

  927. watch over

  928. him there.

  929. Above

  930. his head,

  931. they placed

  932. the written

  933. charge against

  934. him.

  935. This is

  936. Jesus,

  937. the king

  938. of the

  939. Jews.

  940. Two

  941. rebels

  942. were

  943. crucified

  944. with him,

  945. one on

  946. his right

  947. and one

  948. on his

  949. left.

  950. Those

  951. who passed

  952. by hurled

  953. insults at

  954. him,

  955. shaking

  956. their heads

  957. and saying,

  958. you who

  959. are going

  960. to destroy

  961. the temple

  962. and build

  963. it in

  964. three days,

  965. save

  966. yourself.

  967. Come

  968. down from

  969. the cross

  970. if you

  971. are the

  972. son of

  973. God.

  974. In the

  975. same way

  976. the chief

  977. priests

  978. the teachers

  979. of the

  980. law

  981. and the

  982. elders

  983. mocked

  984. him.

  985. He

  986. saved

  987. others,

  988. they said,

  989. but he

  990. can't

  991. save

  992. himself.

  993. He is

  994. the king

  995. of Israel.

  996. Let him

  997. come down

  998. now from

  999. the cross

  1000. and we

  1001. will believe

  1002. in him.

  1003. He

  1004. trusts

  1005. in God.

  1006. Let

  1007. God

  1008. rescue

  1009. him

  1010. now

  1011. if he

  1012. wants

  1013. him.

  1014. For

  1015. he said,

  1016. I am

  1017. the son

  1018. of God.

  1019. In

  1020. the same

  1021. way the

  1022. rebels

  1023. who were

  1024. crucified

  1025. with him

  1026. also

  1027. heaped

  1028. insults

  1029. on him.

  1030. From

  1031. noon

  1032. until

  1033. three in

  1034. the

  1035. afternoon

  1036. darkness

  1037. came over

  1038. all the

  1039. land.

  1040. About

  1041. three in

  1042. the

  1043. afternoon

  1044. Jesus

  1045. cried out

  1046. in a

  1047. loud

  1048. voice,

  1049. Eli,

  1050. Eli,

  1051. Lema

  1052. sabachthani,

  1053. which

  1054. means,

  1055. my

  1056. God,

  1057. my

  1058. God,

  1059. why

  1060. have

  1061. you

  1062. forsaken

  1063. me?

  1064. When

  1065. some

  1066. of those

  1067. standing

  1068. there

  1069. heard

  1070. this,

  1071. they

  1072. said,

  1073. he's

  1074. calling

  1075. Elijah.

  1076. Immediately

  1077. one of

  1078. them ran

  1079. and got

  1080. a sponge.

  1081. He

  1082. filled

  1083. it with

  1084. wine

  1085. vinegar,

  1086. put it

  1087. on a

  1088. staff,

  1089. and

  1090. offered

  1091. it to

  1092. Jesus

  1093. to

  1094. drink.

  1095. the

  1096. rest

  1097. said,

  1098. now

  1099. leave him

  1100. alone,

  1101. let's

  1102. see if

  1103. Elijah

  1104. comes

  1105. to

  1106. save

  1107. him.

  1108. And

  1109. when

  1110. Jesus

  1111. had

  1112. cried

  1113. out

  1114. again

  1115. in a

  1116. loud

  1117. voice,

  1118. he

  1119. gave

  1120. up

  1121. his

  1122. spirit.

  1123. At

  1124. that

  1125. moment,

  1126. the

  1127. curtain

  1128. of the

  1129. temple

  1130. was

  1131. torn

  1132. in

  1133. two

  1134. from

  1135. top

  1136. to

  1137. bottom.

  1138. The

  1139. earth

  1140. shook,

  1141. the

  1142. rocks

  1143. split,

  1144. and

  1145. the

  1146. tombs

  1147. broke

  1148. open.

  1149. The

  1150. bodies

  1151. of

  1152. many

  1153. holy

  1154. people

  1155. who

  1156. had

  1157. died

  1158. were

  1159. raised

  1160. to

  1161. life.

  1162. They

  1163. came out

  1164. of the

  1165. tombs

  1166. after

  1167. Jesus'

  1168. resurrection

  1169. and went

  1170. into the

  1171. holy city

  1172. and appeared

  1173. to many

  1174. people.

  1175. When

  1176. the

  1177. centurion

  1178. and those

  1179. with him

  1180. who were

  1181. guarding

  1182. Jesus

  1183. saw the

  1184. earthquake

  1185. and all

  1186. that had

  1187. happened,

  1188. they were

  1189. terrified

  1190. and exclaimed,

  1191. surely

  1192. he was

  1193. the

  1194. son of

  1195. God.

  1196. Many

  1197. women were

  1198. there

  1199. watching

  1200. from a

  1201. distance.

  1202. They

  1203. had

  1204. followed

  1205. Jesus

  1206. from

  1207. Galilee

  1208. to

  1209. care

  1210. for

  1211. his

  1212. needs.

  1213. Among

  1214. them

  1215. were

  1216. Mary

  1217. Magdalene,

  1218. Mary

  1219. the mother

  1220. of

  1221. James

  1222. and

  1223. Joseph,

  1224. and the

  1225. mother

  1226. of

  1227. Zebedee's

  1228. sons.

  1229. As

  1230. evening

  1231. approached,

  1232. there came

  1233. a rich

  1234. man from

  1235. Arimathea

  1236. named

  1237. Joseph,

  1238. who had

  1239. himself

  1240. become a

  1241. disciple

  1242. of

  1243. Jesus.

  1244. Going

  1245. to

  1246. Pilate,

  1247. he asked

  1248. for

  1249. Jesus'

  1250. body,

  1251. and

  1252. Pilate

  1253. ordered

  1254. that it

  1255. be given

  1256. to him.

  1257. Joseph

  1258. took the

  1259. body,

  1260. wrapped it

  1261. in a

  1262. clean

  1263. linen

  1264. cloth,

  1265. and placed

  1266. it in

  1267. his own

  1268. new

  1269. tomb that

  1270. he had

  1271. cut out

  1272. of the

  1273. rock.

  1274. He rolled

  1275. a big

  1276. stone in

  1277. front of

  1278. the entrance

  1279. to the

  1280. tomb and

  1281. went away.

  1282. Mary Magdalene

  1283. and the other

  1284. Mary were

  1285. sitting there

  1286. opposite the

  1287. tomb.

  1288. The next

  1289. day,

  1290. the one

  1291. after

  1292. preparation

  1293. day,

  1294. the chief

  1295. priests

  1296. and the

  1297. Pharisees

  1298. went to

  1299. Pilate.

  1300. Sir,

  1301. they said,

  1302. we remember

  1303. that while

  1304. he was still

  1305. alive,

  1306. that deceiver

  1307. said,

  1308. after three

  1309. days,

  1310. I will

  1311. rise again.

  1312. So give

  1313. the order

  1314. for the

  1315. tomb to

  1316. be made

  1317. secure

  1318. until the

  1319. third

  1320. day.

  1321. Otherwise,

  1322. his disciples

  1323. may come

  1324. and steal

  1325. the body

  1326. and tell

  1327. the people

  1328. that he's

  1329. been raised

  1330. from the

  1331. dead.

  1332. This last

  1333. deception

  1334. will be

  1335. worse than

  1336. the first.

  1337. Take a

  1338. guard,

  1339. Pilate

  1340. answered.

  1341. Go,

  1342. make the

  1343. tomb

  1344. as secure

  1345. as you

  1346. know how.

  1347. So they

  1348. went and

  1349. made the

  1350. tomb

  1351. secure

  1352. by putting

  1353. a seal

  1354. on the

  1355. stone

  1356. and

  1357. posting

  1358. the

  1359. guard.

  1360. God
