  1. Thank you.

  2. Thank you.

  3. Thank you.

  4. Thank you.

  5. Welcome aboard.

  6. All right.

  7. You've all seen these advertisements before.

  8. Maybe it's a late night TV program.

  9. Maybe it is in some kind of, I don't know, magazine you're looking at.

  10. Imagine with me, the Gut Buster 3000.

  11. And you have a before and after picture.

  12. The before picture is of Jim.

  13. He's 38 years old and he's gigantic.

  14. He's huge, head disheveled, sticking his gut out so you can see his size.

  15. And he probably plays Donkey Kong in his parents' basement.

  16. That's the kind of impression you get with Jim.

  17. That's the before picture.

  18. And then there's the after picture.

  19. Jim, 185, 3% body fat.

  20. Hair is impeccable.

  21. He is on a yacht with ladies.

  22. You know what I mean?

  23. It's like the Gut Buster 3000 has changed him.

  24. There was the old Jim.

  25. And then there's the new Jim.

  26. And the Gut Buster 3000 did the changing.

  27. Well, this morning, we're going to look at a passage in Ephesians that talks about our old self,

  28. who we were before we became Christians.

  29. And then it's going to point us to the new self, who you are now in Christ.

  30. And the big difference between the two is not a Gut Buster 3000.

  31. It's the resurrected Christ who made us new creations.

  32. And so would you open up your Bibles to Ephesians chapter 4.

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  33. We're going to look at verses 17 through 24.

  34. This is a wonderful passage.

  35. And what it is, it's setting up to help us as Christians to know how to walk as Christians.

  36. How to live out our calling in Christ.

  37. So let me read this.

  38. Now this, I say and testify in the Lord,

  39. that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do in the futility of their minds.

  40. They are darkened in their understanding,

  41. alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them,

  42. due to the hardness of their heart.

  43. But they have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality,

  44. greedy to practice every kind of impurity.

  45. But that's not the way you learn Christ.

  46. Assuming that you've heard about Him and were taught in Him,

  47. as the truth is in Jesus,

  48. to put off your old self,

  49. which belongs to your former manner of life

  50. and is corrupt through these deceitful desires,

  51. and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,

  52. and to put on the new self,

  53. created after the likeness of God

  54. in true righteousness and holiness.

  55. Brothers and sisters in Christ,

  56. You've got to think of yourself as you truly are.

  57. A new creation in Christ.

  58. Your old self is history.

  59. Your new self in Christ is the present reality.

  60. You have a new identity in Christ.

  61. You're not who you used to be.

  62. Now, knowing and believing what God says to be true of you in Christ

  63. will change the way you live your life.

  64. Who you are determines how you live.

  65. And so this morning, I want to help you from this passage,

  66. see who you are.

  67. So three moves this morning.

  68. The old you,

  69. the new you,

  70. and the need to renew.

  71. So the old you,

  72. the new you,

  73. and the need to renew.

  74. You must believe what God's Word says is true of you.

  75. You're a new creation in Christ Jesus,

  76. and it changes the way you live your life.

  77. So, the old you.

  78. The old you.

  79. Now, I have a little warning in front of this.

  80. This is going to be a little bleak.

  81. And so, to be faithful to the text

  82. is to show you some things about yourself

  83. that you may not necessarily like to see.

  84. And so, little warning ahead of time.

  85. Unless sin be bitter,

  86. Christ will not be sweet.

  87. And so, we're going to be reminded of some things right now

  88. that you may say,

  89. that's hard to hear.

  90. Well, in verse 22,

  91. our Lord Jesus,

  92. through the Apostle Paul,

  93. tells us to put off the old self.

  94. To put it off.

  95. So, we've got to ask the question,

  96. who is the old self?

  97. Verse 22 says,

  98. put off your old self,

  99. which belongs to your former manner of life,

  100. and is corrupt through deceitful desires.

  101. The old self, the old you,

  102. is who you were,

  103. former manner of life,

  104. before you became a Christian.

  105. That's the old self.

  106. And notice,

  107. that the former you,

  108. is corrupt through deceitful desires.

  109. Who you were before becoming a Christian,

  110. was corrupt.

  111. The word corrupt,

  112. is describing the nature,

  113. of our old self,

  114. before Christ.

  115. And Paul,

  116. is not painting a pretty picture here.

  117. What he's actually saying is this,

  118. not only were we corrupt,

  119. we were moving from bad to worse.

  120. We were becoming more and more corrupt.

  121. We were on a disintegrating descent

  122. towards destruction.

  123. We were dead to God,

  124. and decaying morally.

  125. Ephesians 2, 1-3.

  126. The old self is the non-Christian you,

  127. walking in darkness.

  128. Now let's press into this a little bit more.

  129. If you would look at Ephesians 4,

  130. 17-19,

  131. God wants us to understand

  132. what we've been called out of.

  133. Now this I say and testify in the Lord,

  134. that you must no longer walk

  135. as the Gentiles do.

  136. Those Gentiles who didn't believe in Christ.

  137. Don't walk like them,

  138. in the futility of their minds.

  139. They are darkened into their understanding,

  140. alienated from the life of God

  141. because of the ignorance that is in them

  142. due to their hardness of heart.

  143. They've become callous

  144. and have given themselves up to sensuality,

  145. greedy to practice

  146. every kind of impurity.

  147. What we read in Ephesians 4, 17-19

  148. is a description of the nature

  149. and practice of non-Christians.

  150. Of those separated from the life of God

  151. in Christ.

  152. And this is a description

  153. of our former way of living.

  154. This is who we used to be.

  155. Our old non-Christian selves.

  156. You see in that passage in verse 17,

  157. in the futility of their minds,

  158. our thinking was empty,

  159. hollow,

  160. without substance.

  161. Now back in the day,

  162. we would never have said that.

  163. We probably thought we were on target.

  164. Thinking the right thoughts.

  165. We know what reality was.

  166. But we were actually

  167. futile in our thinking.

  168. We didn't know the truth,

  169. nor did we have the ability

  170. to comprehend it.

  171. And so what we see in verse 17

  172. when we're talking about

  173. the futility of the mind

  174. is an emphasis on your mind.

  175. We were darkened in our understanding.

  176. Verse 18.

  177. Again, another word.

  178. Understanding referencing

  179. the importance of the mind.

  180. The lights of our understanding

  181. were off towards God.

  182. We were blind

  183. to recognizing the light

  184. of the knowledge of Christ.

  185. We were futile in our thinking.

  186. We were darkened in our understanding.

  187. And we were alienated

  188. from the life of God

  189. in Christ Jesus

  190. because of the ignorance

  191. that was in us.

  192. Again, ignorance.

  193. Another reference to the mind.

  194. What were we ignorant of?

  195. What were we ignorant of?

  196. We were ignorant of the truth

  197. that is in Christ Jesus.

  198. We did not know God.

  199. We were not in a life-giving relationship

  200. with the resurrected Christ.

  201. Our ignorance of Christ

  202. was essentially a rejection

  203. of Christ.

  204. And mind you,

  205. this is not

  206. an innocent ignorance,

  207. but a culpable rejection

  208. of Christ,

  209. which demonstrates

  210. the fact that we were separated

  211. from the life of God.

  212. We were dead to God.

  213. We were futile in our thinking.

  214. We were darkened

  215. in our understanding.

  216. We were alienated

  217. from the life of God

  218. because of the ignorance in us.

  219. And then we get to the heart

  220. of the matter.

  221. Paul brings us to

  222. the cause of it all.

  223. You see that at the end

  224. of verse 18.

  225. Due to their hardness of heart,

  226. we were hardened to God.

  227. Our futility of mind,

  228. our darkened understanding,

  229. our ignorance and alienation

  230. was all a result

  231. of our hardened hearts.

  232. Remember,

  233. your heart

  234. is the control center

  235. of your life.

  236. What controls your heart

  237. controls your life.

  238. What controls your heart

  239. controls what you live for,

  240. how you walk through your days.

  241. And back

  242. before we were Christians,

  243. our hearts

  244. were hardened

  245. towards God.

  246. Now, not all of us

  247. had the same degree

  248. of hardness.

  249. We are on varying degrees

  250. of hardness to God,

  251. but we are all

  252. hardening

  253. towards God.

  254. We didn't live for Christ.

  255. We lived for our own pleasures.

  256. This was our nature.

  257. This is who we were

  258. apart from Christ.

  259. That's who we used to be.

  260. This is a picture

  261. of our old self.

  262. And just to be

  263. absolutely clear,

  264. God places the blame

  265. for our futility

  266. of thinking,

  267. darkened understanding,

  268. alienation and ignorance,

  269. squarely on our

  270. hardened hearts.

  271. We're responsible.

  272. He holds us responsible

  273. for our corrupt natures.

  274. sinners.

  275. This was who we were

  276. by nature.

  277. And remember,

  278. who you are

  279. determines how you live.

  280. So our corrupt nature

  281. worked its way out

  282. into practice.

  283. And we see that

  284. in verse 19.

  285. 19.

  286. They have become callous

  287. and have given themselves

  288. up to sensuality,

  289. greedy to practice

  290. every kind of impurity.

  291. Callous.

  292. It's another way of talking

  293. about a hardened heart.

  294. You know,

  295. when you're working outside

  296. or doing something

  297. a lot with your hands,

  298. you get calluses

  299. on your hands.

  300. And what they end up doing

  301. is they keep you

  302. from feeling pain.

  303. They make you unfeeling,

  304. numb you to pain.

  305. And what Paul is saying here

  306. is that a callous heart

  307. is numb to God

  308. and His ways.

  309. And so out of a callous heart,

  310. people,

  311. formerly ourselves,

  312. to varying degrees,

  313. gave ourselves up

  314. to sensuality.

  315. Giving ourselves over

  316. to the godless pursuit

  317. of sensual pleasures.

  318. Without God on the scene,

  319. we're still going to pursue

  320. something to make us happy.

  321. It's the law

  322. of diminishing returns

  323. played out in morality.

  324. Maybe you've experienced this.

  325. Maybe you know other people

  326. who've experienced this.

  327. When someone has a heart

  328. that's hardening

  329. towards God,

  330. they'll seek pleasure

  331. apart from God.

  332. They'll pursue satisfaction

  333. somewhere else.

  334. Somewhere where God forbids.

  335. And over time,

  336. that gets old.

  337. And so you look for

  338. another kind of fix.

  339. And instead of repenting,

  340. you move deeper down in.

  341. You fall further into

  342. the disintegrating

  343. descent

  344. of decay

  345. towards destruction.

  346. That's the practice.

  347. That's the lifestyle

  348. of those apart from Christ.

  349. You move from bad

  350. to worse

  351. because your heart

  352. is hardened to God.

  353. It's not static.

  354. It's dynamic.

  355. It's regressive.

  356. Now, not all of us

  357. were in the same place

  358. when God graciously

  359. intervened in our lives.

  360. Some of us

  361. were just

  362. getting started

  363. down the

  364. descent of decay.

  365. Others of us

  366. were well down

  367. that slippery slide.

  368. But the point

  369. you need to see here

  370. is that

  371. the descending

  372. into moral decay

  373. was because of

  374. who we were.

  375. dead to God,

  376. alienated from

  377. the life of Christ.

  378. We see this being

  379. played out.

  380. Who you are

  381. determines how you live.

  382. We see it here

  383. in the first part

  384. of 17 through 19.

  385. Now, would you look back

  386. at verse 17?

  387. We read this.

  388. Now this I say

  389. in testifying to the Lord.

  390. Paul is saying,

  391. listen to me

  392. as your apostle.

  393. Now this I say

  394. in testifying to the Lord

  395. that you must

  396. no longer walk

  397. as the Gentiles do.

  398. We are no longer

  399. to live this way.

  400. Why?

  401. Because it's not

  402. who we are anymore.

  403. God through Christ

  404. has changed

  405. our very nature.

  406. And because He's done that,

  407. we have a new way to live.

  408. So we've looked at

  409. the old self.

  410. The old you.

  411. Now let's look at

  412. the new you.

  413. Let's look at what God

  414. has done through Christ

  415. in you.

  416. He's given you

  417. a new nature.

  418. Verse 24.

  419. And put on the new self,

  420. created after the likeness

  421. of God and true righteousness

  422. in holiness.

  423. Well, we just got done

  424. looking at the nature

  425. and practice

  426. of the old you.

  427. Now we're going to

  428. bear in on the nature

  429. of the new you.

  430. Who we are now

  431. in Christ.

  432. And so,

  433. in verse 24,

  434. you see the word

  435. created.

  436. Created and put on Him.

  437. Put on the new self.

  438. Created after the likeness

  439. of God

  440. and true righteousness

  441. and holiness.

  442. Think new creation.

  443. A new creation

  444. created by God

  445. in the likeness of God.

  446. Would you flip over

  447. to Ephesians 2.10?

  448. For we are His workmanship

  449. created in Christ Jesus

  450. for good works.

  451. God made us alive in Christ.

  452. Ephesians 2.5.

  453. He made us alive in Christ

  454. in order to be like Christ.

  455. In true righteousness

  456. and holiness.

  457. And this gracious act of God

  458. in which He made you alive

  459. was a decisive act of God.

  460. There once was a time

  461. when you were dead in your sin.

  462. God intervened

  463. and then you were alive in Christ.

  464. It was a decisive moment

  465. in your life.

  466. The new self

  467. is who you are now

  468. in Christ.

  469. Redeemed.

  470. Made new.

  471. Indwelt by the Spirit.

  472. You've been given

  473. a new nature in Christ.

  474. We are a new people now.

  475. Claimed by Jesus.

  476. Now let me just do some truth

  477. in advertising right here.

  478. Because there can be

  479. some misunderstanding.

  480. When we are made new in Christ,

  481. God does not eradicate

  482. from our experience

  483. our sinful nature.

  484. He doesn't completely eradicate it.

  485. So though we have been made new,

  486. we are going to have

  487. an inclination still

  488. to do things

  489. according to our

  490. former way of life.

  491. But we have a new desire now

  492. through what Christ has done.

  493. Look at verses 20 and 21.

  494. But this is not the way

  495. we learn Christ,

  496. assuming that you've heard

  497. about Him

  498. and were taught in Him,

  499. as the truth is in Jesus.

  500. Paul has just said

  501. we are not to live

  502. like non-Christians.

  503. Who they are

  504. determines how they lived.

  505. But we have come

  506. to know Christ.

  507. We've learned Christ.

  508. And so our former manner

  509. of life stands

  510. in sharp contrast

  511. to the way we were to live.

  512. Stands in sharp contrast

  513. to the way we live now.

  514. Because we've been

  515. fundamentally changed.

  516. Jesus has made us new people.

  517. Notice,

  518. there's a shift

  519. in this passage.

  520. So 17, 18, and 19

  521. is focused on

  522. the old man,

  523. nature,

  524. and practice.

  525. And then in verse 20,

  526. there's that little word,

  527. but.

  528. It's a change of direction.

  529. It's a change of focus.

  530. It's a movement away

  531. from looking at

  532. who we were

  533. to looking at Christ

  534. who has made us new.

  535. Christ calls us

  536. to a dramatic change

  537. in how we live our lives.

  538. And we're not to live

  539. like non-Christians anymore

  540. because they were dead to God.

  541. Now we live

  542. as those who are alive to God.

  543. It changes the way we live.

  544. We were hardened to God,

  545. verse 18,

  546. and then God gave us

  547. new hearts.

  548. There's something

  549. I need to point you to.

  550. This is,

  551. this is wonderful.

  552. Would you turn back

  553. in your Bibles

  554. to the book of Ezekiel?

  555. Ezekiel was a prophet.

  556. And in Ezekiel chapter 36,

    Ezekiel 36 chapter mention

  557. there is a prophecy

  558. pointing to

  559. what life would be like

  560. for God's people

  561. under the new covenant

  562. when Messiah would come

  563. and by His blood

  564. establish a new people.

  565. Here's what they will be like.

  566. Chapter 36,

  567. verses 25-27.

  568. I will sprinkle clean water on you

  569. and you shall be clean

  570. from all your uncleanliness

  571. and from all your idols

  572. I will cleanse you.

  573. Old man gone.

  574. And I will give you

  575. a new heart

  576. and a new spirit

  577. I will put within you

  578. and I will remove

  579. the heart of stone

  580. from your flesh

  581. and I will give you

  582. a heart of flesh.

  583. I will put my spirit

  584. within you

  585. and cause you

  586. to walk in my statutes

  587. and be careful

  588. and be careful

  589. to obey

  590. all my rules.

  591. What we see here

  592. in Ephesians chapter 4

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  593. is the fulfilling

  594. of Ezekiel 36.

  595. Jesus accomplished

  596. something on the cross.

  597. He purchased for Himself

  598. a new people.

  599. In a new way

  600. His people live.

  601. A new nature

  602. for His people.

  603. We were hardened to God

  604. but God through Christ

  605. gave us new hearts.

  606. When you became a Christian

  607. you were given

  608. a heart transplant.

  609. Your heart of stone

  610. was removed

  611. and God graciously

  612. gave you

  613. a new soft heart.

  614. The hard and callous heart

  615. gone.

  616. And in its place

  617. a soft heart.

  618. A fleshy heart.

  619. Malleable.

  620. Tender towards the Lord.

  621. Inclined to His ways.

  622. Our hardened hearts

  623. before we were Christians

  624. made us futile

  625. in our thinking.

  626. Darkened in our understanding.

  627. Alienated because of our ignorance.

  628. And what God did

  629. through Christ

  630. is that when He gave us

  631. a new heart

  632. our darkened understanding

  633. was enlightened

  634. by the light

  635. of the knowledge

  636. of Christ.

  637. Our empty thinking

  638. was given substance.

  639. Christ.

  640. Who He is.

  641. What He's done.

  642. What He's doing now.

  643. And what He will do.

  644. God is uniting

  645. all things

  646. in Christ.

  647. Our alienation

  648. due to our ignorance

  649. became our reconciliation

  650. due to our knowledge

  651. of Christ.

  652. He is our life.

  653. He is our peace.

  654. When we became Christians

  655. we were given new hearts

  656. made new

  657. so that we would be

  658. able to see the truth

  659. that is in Jesus.

  660. Verse 21

  661. He made us new

  662. so that we could

  663. walk in His ways.

  664. This is the new you

  665. in Christ.

  666. This is who you really

  667. truly are

  668. right now

  669. if you're a Christian.

  670. And if you're not a Christian

  671. you need to become a Christian.

  672. you need to turn

  673. from your old ways

  674. and turn to Christ

  675. who will give you life.

  676. This is true of you.

  677. You are no longer

  678. the old you

  679. the old self.

  680. Christ has made you new.

  681. This is the truth

  682. that is in Christ.

  683. The old is gone

  684. the new has come.

  685. So we've looked

  686. at the old you

  687. we've been looking

  688. at the new you

  689. in Christ

  690. and then let's look

  691. at this word

  692. renew.

  693. Look back with me

  694. in verse 20.

  695. But that is not

  696. the way you learn

  697. Christ

  698. assuming that you

  699. have heard about Him

  700. and were taught in Him

  701. as the truth is in Jesus

  702. to put off your old self

  703. which belongs to your

  704. former manner of life

  705. and is corrupt

  706. through deceitful desires

  707. and to be renewed

  708. in the spirit

  709. of your minds

  710. and to put on

  711. the new self

  712. created after the likeness

  713. of God

  714. in true righteousness

  715. and holiness.

  716. Look again

  717. at verse 23.

  718. And to be renewed

  719. in the spirit

  720. of your minds.

  721. Alright.

  722. Let's be honest.

  723. We forget.

  724. We forget who we are.

  725. We forget

  726. that God in Christ

  727. has radically changed us.

  728. We forget that.

  729. It escapes our minds.

  730. We forget who we are.

  731. And often times

  732. what that leads

  733. is to living

  734. doing things

  735. corrupt behavior

  736. that's more in keeping

  737. with our former

  738. manner of life

  739. than who we are

  740. right now.

  741. So the question becomes

  742. how do we live

  743. in light of who

  744. God in Christ

  745. has made us to be?

  746. And the answer

  747. is right here.

  748. It begins by

  749. renewing our minds.

  750. It begins by

  751. remembering

  752. who we are

  753. in Christ.

  754. This is the

  755. starting point

  756. of Christian

  757. practice.

  758. We've just looked

  759. at who we are

  760. by nature.

  761. The new you.

  762. Now we're starting

  763. to move towards

  764. what that looks

  765. like lived out.

  766. And it starts

  767. with your mind.

  768. Remembering

  769. what God has done

  770. for you in Christ.

  771. We must regularly

  772. renew our minds

  773. on the truth

  774. of who God

  775. in Christ

  776. has made us to be.

  777. It's got to be regular.

  778. It's got to be regular.

  779. We've got to call

  780. it to mind.

  781. When we renew

  782. our minds

  783. on the truth

  784. of who we are,

  785. God gives us

  786. resolve

  787. to live for Christ.

  788. It's his chosen

  789. means to do it.

  790. Truth functioning

  791. in our minds.

  792. Minds that have been

  793. awakened

  794. enlivened.

  795. Now

  796. we are able

  797. to know

  798. who we are

  799. and live.

  800. Has anybody

  801. seen The Help?

  802. Great movie.

  803. I really enjoyed

  804. The Help.

  805. There were several

  806. scenes that I just

  807. thought were

  808. particularly well done.

  809. Minnie's chocolate pie,

  810. I will never forget that.

  811. I think that's

  812. incredibly funny.

  813. But the one

  814. who steals the show

  815. is Abilene.

  816. So she's an

  817. African American

  818. slave,

  819. not a slave,

  820. maid,

  821. functioning like a slave.

  822. Abilene was

  823. a black maid

  824. and she was

  825. essentially

  826. raising

  827. May Mobley

  828. in the South

  829. during the 1960s.

  830. And one of the scenes

  831. is Abilene

  832. sitting in a rocker

  833. with May Mobley

  834. in her lap.

  835. May Mobley

  836. just is

  837. woken up

  838. and this little

  839. white girl

  840. who she's

  841. essentially raising,

  842. she says this to.

  843. You remember?

  844. You is smart.

  845. You is kind.

  846. You is important.

  847. Remember that?

  848. Remember what

  849. Abilene had

  850. May Mobley do?

  851. Repeat after me.

  852. You is smart.

  853. You is kind.

  854. You is important.

  855. And throughout the movie,

  856. every time

  857. Abilene

  858. gets May Mobley

  859. to wake her up,

  860. you is smart.

  861. You is kind.

  862. You is important.

  863. When May Mobley

  864. makes a big mistake,

  865. Abilene brings her in

  866. and says,

  867. You is smart.

  868. You is kind.

  869. You is important.

  870. Over and over,

  871. Abilene

  872. is reminding

  873. this little girl

  874. of who she is.

  875. this is who you are.

  876. Christian,

  877. God is saying to you,

  878. You is mine.

  879. You is alive.

  880. You is holy.

  881. You is mine.

  882. You is alive.

  883. You is holy.

  884. And this is true

  885. regardless of how you feel.

  886. You is mine.

  887. You is alive.

  888. You is holy.

  889. Just think,

  890. every morning,

  891. you wake up,

  892. you open up God's Word,

  893. and you renew your mind

  894. on the truth

  895. that God speaks to you.

  896. You is mine.

  897. Love from eternity past.

  898. You is alive.

  899. I made you alive

  900. in Christ.

  901. You're a new creation now.

  902. You is holy.

  903. Created in the likeness of God

  904. for true righteousness

  905. and holiness.

  906. That's who you are now.

  907. When these words of our God

  908. sink into our mind,

  909. they renew our mind.

  910. Yes, that's who I am.

  911. They strengthen our resolve

  912. to live in light

  913. of who we already are.

  914. Who God has made us to be.

  915. And so,

  916. we look at verse 22

  917. and we read this.

  918. Put off your old self

  919. which belongs to your

  920. former manner of life

  921. and is corrupt

  922. through deceitful desires

  923. and be renewed

  924. in the spirit of your minds

  925. and to put on the new self.

  926. Put off,

  927. renew,

  928. put on.

  929. Paul is pointing us

  930. to the practice

  931. of a Christian.

  932. Of someone who is

  933. made new in Christ.

  934. So what he's saying is this,

  935. is we are to put off

  936. the practices

  937. that are

  938. former way of life practices.

  939. It's not true of us anymore.

  940. We're to put those off

  941. and we're to put on practices

  942. that are consistent

  943. with being created

  944. in the likeness of God

  945. and true righteousness

  946. and holiness.

  947. Paul's actually comparing

  948. the Christian life

  949. to putting off

  950. dirty clothes

  951. and putting on

  952. clean clothes.

  953. And we're going to come back

  954. to that

  955. for the next several weeks.

  956. Because in Ephesians 4

  957. what Paul does is

  958. he starts us

  959. in a direction.

  960. Christian,

  961. this is who you are.

  962. this is how you must think

  963. and this is how

  964. it gets

  965. really concrete.

  966. Just look at verse 25.

  967. You're not to speak

  968. falsehood anymore.

  969. You're to speak

  970. the truth

  971. to one another.

  972. And so why?

  973. Speaking falsehood

  974. is not true

  975. of who we are anymore.

  976. We've been made new.

  977. And so we speak

  978. the truth

  979. in love

  980. to one another.

  981. We're going to come back

  982. to this

  983. over and over

  984. for the next few weeks.

  985. Putting off the old self

  986. and putting on

  987. the new self.

  988. Alright.

  989. Christ changes

  990. the way we live.

  991. Because Christ

  992. has changed

  993. who we are.

  994. Who you are

  995. determines how you live.

  996. And Christian,

  997. you is

  998. God's.

  999. You is

  1000. alive.

  1001. You is

  1002. holy.

  1003. Let's pray.
